You are a trustworthy sort of person, and have a lot of respect by several communities. As you live by the sea, it’s not uncommon for several seal coats to be left on your coat rack, with the quiet trust and knowledge the coat will be there when the owner returns in the evening
Thank you @lordkingsmith
This is slightly based off / inspired by the song Piano Man
The daughters of the sea used to tell me about the fishermen who would hunt endangered species when they're not supposed to.
I had only been a year at the coast when I witnessed it for myself. People would go hunting, and some would never return. Others would come back wounded. I often said it served them right. But it didn't sit right with me that I just sat idle and did nothing.
So I did what I had to. I brought a boat, I painted her, I made her into the best vessel anyone could ever want on these treacherous waters and I set out to save the endangered species that were being attacked, saving the Selkies, The Mermaids, The Sharks. You get the idea.
I'd be risking myself every day, every moment of every waking nightmare. I'd often be brought to shore by the daughters of the sea and their friends, who would guide my vessel home to shore.
"And what do they call you?" The daughters would ask each time I awoke.
"Justice. Jonathan Justice." I would say each time.
Over time, as word of what I was doing grew, more and more people began looking to help me, chasing off the bad guys and helping me roam the water on my vessel, looking out for anybody in need.
This went on for years. Each time they would ask for my name, and I'd reply the same.
This went on, people spreading the good word about what we were doing. Others trying to test their patience and piss me off.
The others who were on my good side, knew to leave their coats in the end. Because I'd look after them. It hurts when you hurt and you long for something more, like you've done all you can and its not enough.
I went to bars, I went searching. But still I found my way 'home', back to that house where my friends would leave their coats and go out for a smoke and go to see who else would need their help.
"Who is that man?" The others would ask on repeat, day in and day out.
"Jonathan Justice is a friend of mine" Was all they would ever say.
And one day when they got home and they took their coats, I found my true home was calling me: The sea.
The daughters of the sea welcomed me, and made me one of their own. All what I was just went away, and the heavy heart I had was slowly lifting.
I am free.
I am free.

–oc tag game
tagged by @corvosattano @jackiesarch @marivenah @nuclearstorms @leviiackrman @nightbloodbix @chuckhansen and @queennymeria thank you all!
i think this has made it's rounds but tagging @loriane-elmuerto @jendoe @florbelles @unholymilf @denerims @risingsh0t @indorilnerevarine @lizzywizzy @ladysanjo @teamhawkeye @benwishaw @ghostfvcker and anyone else!
buckle up yall im going to get sappy. also super ungodly long post under the cut IM SAPPY
– favorite oc.
Tumblr media
spencer clarke [the quarry]
i say it a lot but. she is me i am her. like actually, spencer has only been an oc for like a week and she has taken such a tight hold on my brain. I pour a lot of myself into my ocs, but i think spencer is the oc that has really gotten the most. she is the closest to a self insert i think out of all of them, she shares a lot of my behaviors and such. but she is just so fun for me to talk about (im sorry to lori and aj) and figuring her out has been such a blast.
Tumblr media
amara owens [infamous: second son]
MISS AMARA CELESTE OWENS. I've had her for as long as i've had the fc5 clowns, or maybe even longer. Amara is an oc that makes me really happy. for a while, i never knew where i wanted to put her; i tried making her a multifandom oc but it just didn't feel right. then i played infamous: second son and it felt like everything just clicked with her. she's one of my most important ocs, no one else have i played the same game 6 times for.
Tumblr media
marian ramos de-león [red dead redemption 2]
ms marian is also one of my oldest ocs, she's a little younger than the fc5 clowns, but she's also one of my favorites. she's another really fun character for me to think about. it was so fun to play the game and know exactly where she would be and what she would say. while i haven't done much with her canon or sadie au, making this new, spooky au for her was some of the most fun i've ever had with an oc. using concepts that i've always been a fan of but never really used has been so fun and it all clicks so well with marian
Tumblr media
sylvie green [call of duty: modern warfare 2019]
my child whom i share custody of with lori. she has been one of my favorites for almost a year now, another one that has helped me figure out some stuff about myself, and like spencer she truly did grab onto my brain and has not let go. i never thought i'd make an oc for cod, let alone like,,,22 including side characters. half the fun has been getting to bounce ideas off of lori, and sylvie is absolutely one of those ideas. most things about her-- her name, her face, her backstory, even her ship-- are all lori's amazing ideas and i am so happy to have both of them in my life.
honorable mentions: elenore parker, hanan shepard, iseul jeong, corinne sorrell
– newest oc.
Tumblr media
spencer clarke [the quarry]
like i said! i've only had spencer for like,,,4 days i think atp. but i love her a lot. with it being summer time here, i started thinking about the quarry again and jacob those that have been here u know i see a himbo i have to make a partner for them and decided it might be fun to make an oc for a horror game for a change! and i'm really happy i did.
Tumblr media
jackie castillo [marvel]
more of lori's influence, seeing them talk about Asra and the rest of their marvel ocs made me want to make my own. Jackie is still a bit of a wip, but i love her all the same and i really do need to do some development on her.
Tumblr media
blake liu [marvel]
my other marvel girlie. even more of lori's influence. Riri's roommate turned fellow kidnappee turned girlfriend. Asra's adopted daughter. Blake is so many things but everything clicks so well for her. another one i need to develop more, but i am so happy to have her as well.
Tumblr media
thalia [assassin's creed: odyssey/origins]
thalia's some kind of phoenix-rising-from-the-ashes deal, but in a like, i scrapped one oc and made her. when i was overhauling Amara, i decided her assassin's creed au didn't really work, but i wanted an oc for odyssey so bad; so enter Thalia. she's one of my more stick in the mud characters but i still love her a lot.
honorable mentions: daphne palmer, silas kane, noah callaghan, andy kwan, rhea dawn
– oldest oc. (also; the favorites pt.2)
Tumblr media
elenore parker [far cry 5]
you all knew she'd be here. the blueprint. the very first clown. the batshit insane queen herself. the reason i made this blog. Elle has been through a lot. and i've been through a lot at the same time. she's been there for me as a creative outlet through a lot of bullshit and i am so thankful for her. making her let me deal with some of my own trauma in a way. she's one of the only ocs that i shove into different ships and aus, and every one just works so well for her. she's gotten a bit of an overhaul recently and i'm even more happy with her now.
Tumblr media
emily parker [far cry 5]
i can't talk about Elle without Emily. Emily is also a very self inserty character but she's also someone i wish i could be somehow. I don't lean on her as much as i lean on Elle, but i enjoy messing with her every time i do. she's an older oc, but there's still things that are up in the air about her namely if i will ever commit to shipping her with Wheaty.
Tumblr media
margo seed [far cry 5]
Margaret Elizabeth Seed, the only oc i have argued with someone about. she was the very first ship kid, such a commanding presence; ever since making her it almost felt like she made herself if that made sense? another one that things just really clicked with; she's also my first aroace oc, and that has become very important to me. she stands on her own, she's another one that i want to be like when i grow up.
Tumblr media
daniel seed [far cry 5]
the second ship kid. Daniel almost didn't exist, but i decided Margo could benefit from a narrative foil of sorts. he was a bit of a hassle, he was my first male oc and as such i couldn't land on a face claim for the longest time which was really frustrating for me. he and Margo are both such fun characters to write for, i love how i've managed to make them so similar and so different at the same time.
Tumblr media
warren armstrong [far cry 5]
Warren was made at the same time, or close to the same time, as Daniel. he's the first oc that I have actually come up with a family for though, and that has become somewhat of a trend because of him. Warren took a second to really figure out, but he fits in so well with the twins and their shenanigans once i did. I don't talk about him nearly as much as i should, but he is also one of my favorites.
honorable mentions: fern solace, ashlee burrell, katherine boyer, judith burch, kennedy ryder, amara owens
– meanest oc.
Tumblr media
ines cousland [dragon age origins]
I have a lot of violent or manipulative ocs (i think, at least), but none of them are on the level that Ines is. Ines walks around with a sort of chip on her shoulder about the world she lives in. she's composed and calculating and power hungry. she makes a lot of cruel and sort of impulsive decisions as a warden, but she is always one step ahead of those that challenge her. she knows she has enemies and she will stop at nothing to ruin their lives just for the fun of it. she's also incredibly ambitious as well; she wanted to be one of, if not the most, powerful people in Thedas, and she would stop at nothing to get herself there.
Tumblr media
rhea dawn [fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood]
Rhea is not nearly as malicious as Ines is but she has her moments. she's not technically a villain, but she's also not really going out of her way to help the heroes either. she's never really had any second thoughts about her actions, she will take her own side before anyone else's. she knows she's one of the most powerful alchemists in the world, and if that inspires some fear then so be it.
Tumblr media
levi choi [call of duty: modern warfare 2019]
he has to be here, but he's not really that mean compared to the two above. Levi's that friend that is always brutally honest, the one that you just want to fight sometimes because of it. he's not afraid to say what he thinks, he never writes a check that his ass can't cash, and you will hear about it if you piss him or his friends off.
honorable mentions: raina hawke, scott ryder, morgan brooks, noah callaghan, althea elowen, minerva siobhan, katherine boyer, shannon turner
– softest oc.
Tumblr media
melanie vargas [the last of us]
Mel is another oc that got somewhat of an overhaul. when hbo tlou came out, i decided i didn't like the direction i went with her, so i scrapped it and started over. she turned out a lot softer this time, being reworked to be one of the friendliest faces of Jackson now. she is a bit more of a background character now because of her role in the universe, but i think that works out better for her.
Tumblr media
amara owens [infamous: second son]
my favorite daughter here once again. Amara is one of the softer characters in the main cast of second son but that's not to say she's a pushover either. she would do anything for her friends, she would give anything to help a stranger. she's just one of those ocs that radiates a lot of positive energy and light.
Tumblr media
kennedy ryder [mass effect: andromeda]
another one that's soft but is not a pushover. Kennedy would do anything to help anyone in need, but she will not let her kindness be taken advantage of by anyone. she's seen a lot, she's been through a lot, but she doesn't let it get to her. she's also the resident optimist of the gang, which can be a blessing and a curse.
Tumblr media
nettie hayes [red dead redemption 2]
nettie, however, is too soft for her own good. maybe. she's the most optimistic oc of mine, always has her rose colored glasses on. in her mind, her world is a lot more idyllic than it is. she is a bit of a pushover as well; she can recognize when she's being screwed over but she won't do anything about it. she wears her heart on her sleeve and is probably the most sensitive of my ocs
honorable mentions: veris lavellan, bea morgan, daphne palmer, taylor ross, daniel seed
– most aloof/standofish oc.
Tumblr media
arden [potion permit]
she's quiet, she keeps to herself, she doesn't say much. Arden's not like this because of something that's happened to her, i think you could say; moreso, it's her line of work that made her like this. Arden tries to not get attached because she knows most people she deals with will only be in her life a short period of time. most people, not all of them.
honorable mentions: rhea dawn, spencer clarke, thalia, katherine boyer, ines cousland, nadine hayek
– dumbest (affectionate) oc.
Tumblr media
veris lavellan [dragon age: inquisition]
Veris Rila, my first inquisitor, one of the dimmest lightbulbs in my chandler but she still shines. she is the very definition of 'just trying her best.' she's smart in her own way, one that does not make sense to anyone but herself. she's also impulsive, almost out of spite at this point.
honorable mentions: daniel seed, margo seed, blythe trevelyan, silas kane
– smartest oc.
Tumblr media
gwen khoury [uncharted]
Dr. Gwendolyn Mila Khoury, Ph.D. Gwen learns shit just for the fun of it honestly, and she will spout off if given the chance. she is incredibly, and sometimes annoyingly, curious. Gwen will pick up a new language or skill just to learn something new.
Tumblr media
hanan shepard [mass effect]
another knowledge sponge, Hanan loves to learn about anything she can get her hands on. ship engineering, biotics, alien languages-- Hanan will find something new to learn whenever she can. and she will not hesitate to info dump on the nearest person.
Tumblr media
andy kwan [tomb raider]
Andy! another incredibly bright mind. she's working on her masters in ecosystems ecology for much of the tomb raider shenanigans, and she uses these trips for her own personal research. she's not quite on the 'learning something new just for shits and gigs,' but that does not stop her from constantly taking in some knowledge somehow
honorable mentions: amara owens, ethan moreno, taylor ross, spencer clarke, emily parker, iseul jeong, daphne palmer, nadine hayek, alicia rossi, jules rossi, blake liu, arden
– oc you'd be friends with irl.
Tumblr media
spencer clarke [the quarry]
we're ending where we started. i put spence in this category because i really do mean it when i said she is me. her behavior and personality is so similar to my own. she's another oc that is really someone i wish i could be like.
honorable mentions: daniel seed, taylor ross, ethan moreno, veris lavellan, blythe trevelyan, amara owens, blake liu, kennedy ryder, bea morgan

THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT MY FELLOW WRITERS
Was tagged by @timesthatneverwere Thank you :)
I'll tag @mtreebeardiles @starlightwrites @mxanigel @anneapocalypse and @marythegizka . Only if you feel like doing this, of course.
I'll post the questions here and my answers under the cut.

Things in my current fandoms I want to write but I think nobody would be interested in them but me:

.
Last book I read: Sapiens: From Animals to Gods by Yuval Harari. A really good and interesting book about the evolution of humanity and religion, societal developments, where humanity may be in the future, etc.
Greatest literary inspiration: Not sure I have any, to be honest.
Things in my current fandom I want to read but I don't want to write: I'd love to read a fic that centers around big events in DA history like the fall of the elvhen empire after Solas brings up the Veil, the fall of Arlathan, the Exalted Marches, etc.
For ME, I'd like to read fics set in what the me2 characters were doing before the events of the game. Garrus in Omega, Samara searching for Morinth, Zaeed looking for Vido, etc
Things in my current fandoms I want to write but I think nobody would be interested in them but me: I mean, I mostly write rarepairs, so that doesn't get much attention already. I'm currently writing about Leliana's mom, who I hc was a Carta dwarf that through the twists of fate ended up working for Lady Cecile.
I love writing about obscure characters and giving depth to characters who have 2 lines of dialogue in the games lol.
You can recognize my writing by: If you find a ME or DA rare rarepair on ao3, there's a good chance that it was written by me lol
I always open fics with either descriptions of scenery ("It was a busy day at the Grand Cathedral") or direct dialogue (“Shouldn’t be much longer now, Natia”). And my fics very rarely go over 2k words.
I think this is a common thing for writers, but I've always felt that most of my smut fics are quite similar to each other.
My most controversial take (current fandom): I have a lot lol. I'll give 2 for Mass Effect and 2 for Dragon Age.
As much as I enjoy them, I don't like how most of the squadmates don't ever stand up to Shepard and are pretty much just yes men and women who go along with everything Shepard does (it's also why Ash and Kaidan are among my favs)
I think curing the Genophage in me3 is a mistake (I prefer Mordin surviving and going to work on the Crucible and then continue working on a cure to be used later when the galaxy is more stable, as his ending slides show)
For Dragon Age, Loghain was right in retreating from Ostagar cause the battle was unwinnable, and (not sure if this qualifies as a controversial take) Vivienne is the best Divine imo.
Top three favourite tropes: Not sure if these are tropes per se, but I enjoy Fighting before kissing, reuniting after being separated for years,
What’s your current writing mood (10 – super motivated and churning out words like crazy, 0 – in a complete rut): 6.
Share a random frustration: My lack of a proper schedule to write. I always try to get a some words into wips each days, but sometimes I spent days without writing followed by a sudden burst of activity lol.

AO3 Asks
Tagged by @quietborderline 💛 (I'm still working on the last writing asks you sent me! But this one looks like is much easier than picking out specific lines from my writing, so hopefully it won't take two months plus to publish lol)
Tagging: All you writers out there. I'll tag a couple of you directly, but please don't feel pressured to answer. And if I didn't tag you, it's my lizard brain. Please answer them and tag me so I can read your wonderful answers 💛
@flamehairedsiren @pigeontheoneandonly @greypetrel @destiel-wings
How many works do you have on AO3? 39 (Mostly one shots)
What's your total AO3 words count? 105,481
What fandoms do you write for? The last year has been Mass Effect only, but I have a few Dragon Age and Greedfall pieces as well. And there might be an Anthem ficlet? I can't remember.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? (1) Masquerade & Mysteries (Greedfall) (2) 31 Days of Kurtober (Greedfall) (3) The Hot Zone (Mass Effect: Andromeda) (4) Unharrowed (Dragon Age) (5) Operation Leviathan (Mass Effect)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Almost always. I really enjoy getting comments and even though I get incredibly anxious to respond because even though I feel like an imposter to be like "OMG THANKS!!!" I am truly thankful for the time they took to not only read, but to reach out, too.
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Unharrowed; but only because it's plotted out to be a trilogy. So the first book ends with a high level of angst. Unfortunately, the one that's currently published to AO3 is not only unfinished, but also COMPLETELY different from the re-write I'm working on.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Masquerades & Mysteries, but technically it's not done yet. Because...I feel way too intimidated to finish the story, because in truly 10K story fashion, it ends with a smut chapter. And I don't really do that.
Do you get hate on fics? I've gotten some...disappointing comments that paraded under the false pretenses of "constructive criticism" but as they were from strangers, it mostly just felt like criticism. But only on Unharrowed which makes sense because Unharrowed (the version that's published on AO3) is very weak. It was my first story coming back from a 15 year hiatus of writing fiction (I'd been too busy writing academic research papers). And...you can tell.
Do you write smut. If so what kind? I do, but usually fade-to-black scenarios before it gets explicit. I have one story that I wasn't planning on fading to black, and it has been sitting in limbo for like 3 years because I'm too intimidated to try and write it.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I don't do DIRECT crossovers, but I will definitely take pieces of other fandoms and just apply them to my own. I haven't written it yet, but I do have a pretty wild pseudo-crossover planned. It's the plot of House of Ashes by Supermassive, but instead of the HOA characters, they're all the characters from Mass Effect.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of, but that's probably because every single fic I have published so far is only half done. And also because I have a couple dedicated readers, but I don't advertise my writing very often (not advertise, but things like blogging the links)
Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that I'm aware of.
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? I've never co-written, but I've had the opportunity to give my input while beta-ing my best friends Dragon Age fic.
What's your all-time favourite ship? I can choose favorites in each fandom, but probably not all time. Kaidan and Shepard have been reining supreme lately though.
What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I am uncertain I'll ever finish Unharrowed. I had planned on writing 50k of it this year for NaNo, but due to health issues, I have chosen to not participate in NaNo this November. Hopefully I can still crank out 50K in April during camp.
What are your writing strengths? Plot. My plots are banger. Dialogue sounds pretty natural, I think.
What are your writing weaknesses? CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Which sucks, because you can have a weak story, that people will still love if your characters are strong. And my character aren't weak, but they are not dynamic. They don't tend to grow. Hopefully, realizing that about myself over the last year, maybe I can change that.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I don't mind if it makes sense storywise, or if it's a nickname for another character. But in general, I think it just creates more work for the reader, which isn't always a good decision.
First fandom you wrote for? Ever? Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place way back in 2002. It still gets a few likes every couple years and it startles me lol but it's on FF.Net, not AO3. The first for AO3 was Dragon Age.
Favourite fic you've ever written? It's not done, but The Hot Zone is definitely one of my favorites.
Answering these made me realize I really need to finish a story. Like..badly. Lmao they're all half drafted or half edited or just pseudo-abandoned.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @feralkwe (thank you!)
How many works do you have on AO3?
11. I also have various ones scattered on ff.net, as well as lost to time on livejournal and a graveyard on my googledrive.
What’s your total AO3 word count?
77246. In terms of fic writing output, I’m one of those little pilot fish that hangs around friendly sharks.
What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly Dragon Age and the Arcana mobile game. I want to write more Mass Effect and I’ve done a Yasmin/Thirteen Dr Who ficlet. I used to write a lot of stuff for Naruto in my teens.
What are your top five fics by kudos?
A Little Tender Loving Care - Arcana. Smut. Giving Nadia a massage.
A Little Stronger You Thought - Arcana. A sparring practice with Nadia gets a bit hot and sweaty. Not actually smut this time.
Won’t You Cleanse My Soul - Arcana. And we’re back to Smut. The bathroom scene taken to a conclusion not in the game.
Not So Clean - Mass Effect. Smut again! Shepard and Traynor share a shower.
Alone At Last - Dr Who. After Ryan and Graham leave the TARDIS, Yasmin and Thirteen finally push past a barrier in their friendship.
Do you respond to comments?
Yes. I didn’t used to, but I love giving energy back to the people who took the time to write.
What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Back in my ff.net days, Leliana grieving after losing the Warden to the Ultimate Sacrifice. It implies Leliana dying as well. The angiest one on AO3 is Let it All Out, with Hawke spilling her guts to Leliana over everything that’s happened since they last saw each other in Lothering.
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Alone At Last. Most of my one shots have a happy ending but this in particular.
Do you get hate on fics?
I’ve been fortunate enough to avoid it, although I have had a couple of ‘helpful’ comments telling me what I should do with the characters next (which is a guaranteed way to make me go in the opposite direction, not least so the commenter can’t claim credit for the idea).
Do you write smut?
Cough. See above.
Do you write crossovers?
I sort of am between Dragon Age games as I like bringing characters from one game and putting them in the setting of another. I’ve also been picking at a ‘Shepard crash lands on the Wounded Coast’ fic which I’m not sure will ever see the light of day.
Have you had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I know.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I’ve co-written a lot of storylines on forums, some of which have sprung out into me working on fics separately, but not collaborated on a fanfic before.
What’s your all-time favourite ship?
That’s a tough one. I adore Isabela/F Hawke, and ship Leliana very specifically with my jabby Siali Tabris, but if I was to pick one it would be Korra/Asami. When the first season of Korra came out I made a post on tumblr commenting on the chemistry between the two and really liking the idea of them together, but stating that the network would never, ever let it happen. (Child of the mid-2000’s ‘bury your gays’ wars here.) Having it come true was huge from a cultural standpoint, and I remember sitting at the computer sobbing my eyes out at the finale. It was so important to me so for that reason, I think they’ll always been my OTP even if I never write a fic for them.
Which now I want to. Dammit.
What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I really, really want to write more of Aliyah Hawke’s story. I love DA2 but Hawke as a protagonist never grabbed me by the brainstem in the way my Warden and Inquisitor did. I want to build her up some more. She has five chapters up on AO3 and I want to save her from the ashes.
What are your writing strengths?
I’m told I’m good at distinctive character voices. I like to switch around POVs a lot during fics to give different perspectives on familiar scenes, and the way I write inner monologues is very specific to the character who is the focal point at that time.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I’m not an especially funny writer. Some people have a real knack for turns of phrase that leave you rolling on the floor, and sadly I am not one of those people.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I have done this a lot as Nicolette is either Orlesian or French depending on what world she’s inhabiting at the point I’m writing her, and in reference to her faceclaim also has Indian/Rivaini ancestry, so I’d sprinkle her speech with bits of whatever her mother tongue is. I’ve learned to be increasingly careful about this because a) a lot of free translation tools are absolute arse and b) context is very important.
Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
I’m actually currently writing it. ‘I Cannot Fly, So Let Me Sing’ started as a joke of me taking my very pacifist wandering minstrel character who I have been playing for years and playing with the canon like a ball of yarn until I could justify making her Inquisitor. It has been great working her into the story and also trying to weave in other character POVs, but I am currently taking a bit of a break as I have two bridging/important infodump chapters to write before I can move onto the next bit and I am STUCK.

Fic Masterlist
Hunter/Hunted - WTNC, Fem!Hunter/Finn (Completed)
Aria Thorne, a renowned Hunter has been sent to the town of Lunaris to investigate a series of murders. Sounds easy-except it isn't.
There's a Vampire Clan, a Lycan and apparently a Demon in town, not to mention the small cult, which only complicates things. The evidence is slim-to-none and she's somehow the only one qualified to figure the mess out.
On top of that she might be falling in love.
Chimeras, Huh? - WTNC, One-shot, Fem!Hunter/Finn
After everything that has happened, Aria has a normal day for once in Lunaris. Well...as normal as you can get in this weird town.
Oh, Your Love Is Sunlight - WTNC, One-shot, Fem!Hunter/Finn
“Though there are other ways to show how much we mean to each other. Less permanent ways that doesn’t involve you being on the verge of death.”
“Like?”
Everytime The Sun Goes Down - WTNC, One-shot Collection
A One Shot collection of all my cut/alternate scenes for Hunter/Hunted, and also the smut that you were probably looking for.
Two Evils - WTNC, Pledge Route, Fem!Hunter (WIP)
In which Aria takes Harry up on his offer, because she'll do anything to protect those she loves.
We’ve lost all contact with the outside world. I still have no idea why the large towers appeared, or whether the rest of world fares any better than we do. People tried to leave, of course.
Even Chaos Needs A Catalyst - Crimson Spires, Erika/August (Completed)
They all died.
I’m the only law enforcement remaining in town. Lucky Me.
Like Adam & Eve - Crimson Spires, Erika/Liam (Completed)
“I’ll do whatever I can to redeem myself. I’ll prove to the town that I’m their friend, not their enemy. Just give me the chance.”
“You wanted me to lock you up!”
Once More Into The Breach - Crimson Spires, New Game Plus Novelization (WIP)
“I am surprised you feel it, too, Agent. What was your name again?”
“We don’t have time for this. We need to get out of here. If you agree with me, lower your weapon. We’ll form a truce, at least until we’re out of Bataille.”
A Possible Miscalculation - Detroit: Become Human, One-shot OFC/Connor
Detective Camille Carson made a mistake. Now she's has to deal with the fact that she was to stare at a replica of her friend. It looked just like him, but she knew it wasn’t.
Picking Up Pieces - WKM, OFC/Damien (WIP)
Rowan Spencer has just been made the District Attorney. Life is great. She has a new job, she gets to talk to one of her oldest friends every so often. Then she gets a letter from another old friend. It's a Poker Night Party to celebrate something.
She doesn't even hesitate to go.
Only this night would change everything. For better or worse.
The Only Heaven I'll Be Sent To Is The One With You - DMC, OFC/Vergil, One-Shot Collection
"You could have gotten killed!" I pointed out, crossing my arms. Dante opened the door of Devil May Cry and we filed in. "If it weren't for me-"
"-That damn jester would not have escaped." Vergil interrupted, turning around; venom in his pointed words, and the air around him seemed to drop in temperature.
The Wizard & The Watcher - Pillars Of Eternity, Watcher/Aloth, One-Shot Collection
“Not quite how I’d hoped to get to know the neighbors,” He smiled at her. “Thank you for that timely assistance with that…awkward situation.”
She grinned at him. “Don’t mention it.”
Between The Stars - Mass Effect, Shepard/Garrus, One-Shot Collection
A one-shot collection of my Mass Effect writing because that game has a death-grip on me. Focusing mostly on in-between moments and my take on certain scenes.
One Dragon At A Time - Skyrim, Dragonborn/Teldryn Sero, One-shot Collection
A one-shot collection based on my Skyrim gameplay, headcannons and ideas I got while playing.
It's Just Hollywood Nightlife - Red Embrace: Hollywood, Ashe/Markus?
Everyone comes to Hollywood for a reason. Saints, sinners, artists, anti-artists, and all the beautiful people in America. On September 24th, 1996, I became one of those people.

what’s -1 -1 -1 👀?
Tumblr media
@avallachs i am combining these two asks together, because there's not much to show, and it would be better to show it like that!
this wip is on hold for now, because i want to make it really emotional, but i can't figure out how to do it yet, but hopefully, i'll do so soon <3
"..ow much more will die because of you, Shepard?"
Opening their eyes wide in horror, Evelyn can't make a sound. Their face contorted in fear and panic. They want to shout into the void, but all that leaves their lips is a pathetic whimper. A silent scream. A plea for mercy.
"Why did you live and they died? They were good men."
All they can see is an endless sea of stars. Cold unyielding cosmos suffocates them with its intensity. The all-too-familiar feeling of helplessness clouds every other thought, drowning them, dragging them down to the bottom of the deep dark sea of never-ending thoughts.
Just like it was on Akuze… Breathing becomes harder with each passing second. No matter where Shepard tries to run, all they can see is blood, all they can smell is death and ash. Screaming of their unit would be deafening if not for the ringing in their ears.
Disoriented, Evelyn tries to get up and find their weapon. They have to help them. Why can't they do anything?
One of the officers, Adrian, - they still can't remember his face - is thrown in the air, and Evelyn knows he won’t survive; it would be better to turn away, to not see his broken body on the ground. His acusing eyes focused on them. It would be easier, but they can't move.
The only thing they can do is watch.
Please, save them.
Shepard!
"Good men with families who miss them. Would anyone miss you?"

Fanfic Recs: Part 1
----------------------------
Part 2 FShenko recs
Part 3 FShenko recs
This is my first of several fShenko multi-chapter fanfic recommendation posts.  I would have loved to include all my recs in one post, but I didn’t want to hide anyone under the cut.
This list is in no particular order.  I’m only including multichapter fics. Many of these writers have a backlist of amazing stories, but I only chose one to showcase.
If I’ve read your fic and you don’t see it on the list, it’s not because it wasn’t amazing and isn’t worth recommending.  It either slipped my mind, or it may be on an upcoming part of my list.  I’ve included a few non-fShenko fics later on, but those are marked.

Echoes of Old Embers by @ripley95
Details: Post-ME 3, 50k words, complete
Summary:  After Shepard lives from the war, one of her biggest regrets was rejecting Kaidan at Apollo’s. Fate has a funny way of bringing Jane and Kaidan back into each other’s lives. A misunderstanding with Kaidan’s family makes him and Shepard relive old history and question where they stand.
What I love about it:  This is an amazing, heart-warming story with a lot of character depth and sweetness.  This authors writes one of my favorite versions of Kaidan Alenko. He's considerate and kind.  I love how her Jane Shepard and Kaidan complement each other so well.  Their romance is mature, deep, and heart-felt.
One of the areas this story shines (among many!) is with the original characters.  Kaidan’s three sister and mom are distinct, layered, and bring background and warmth to the story.  If you’re looking for a love story with deep meaning and family-feels, this is a must-read.
Triquetra by @hollyem
Details: Spans ME 1 to ME 3, 17k words, complete
Summary:  Triquetra: a three-sided shape; a symbol representing the power of three.  The Mass Effect story has three possible endings, but it also has three possible beginnings.
What I love about it:  The premise for this story is fascinating!  I love the dichotomy with ME having three possible ending and three possible beginnings.  What if Kaidan or Ash touched the beacon?  The characters are so well-written and true to the game. The three storylines braid together perfectly, and I love the contrast between circumstances as the stories unfold.
This story does a fantastic job delving into possible outcomes and spinning a unique tale for each of the three beacon-touched protagonists.  This story had me constantly guessing.  It subverted my expectations at every turn, and I loved that!  Who dies on Virmire?  What happens in ME-2 with Cerberus?  How does the final battle end?  How do the relationships change?  If you’re looking for a compelling story full of possibilities and twists of fate, this is the story for you.
There Won’t be Trumpets by @alphahelices
Details: Spans ME-1 to ME-3, 13k words, complete
Summary:   While so much of his existence has been surrounded by explosions and gunfire and shouting, Kaidan’s life has been shaped by the silences in between.
What I love about it:  This story is pure beauty! The prose flows like poetry.  The images are vivid and visceral.  They’ll stick with you.  The theme of sounds weaves the story together through all three games.  There are moments that will always stick with me, like Shepard and Kaidan touching helmets to talk on a planet without atmosphere.
The relationship between Kaidan and Shepard is tender, deep, and at times, beautifully heart-breaking before the eventual joy of reconciliation.  If you love precise, evocative language unfolding a moving love story, then check this out!
Discovery by @pigeontheoneandonly
Details: ME 1, 475k words, complete, WIP sequel covers ME 2
Summary:  A reimagined Mass Effect 1, that keeps to the spirit of the canon while deepening connections between events and characters, delving into backstories, and expanding the narrative.
What I love about it:  This story builds a foundation of profound friendship between Shepard and Kaidan.  I love a good slow burn where the friendship evolves and galvanizes into bestfriends who are in love.  I always want to be convinced in a story that the leads belong together, and this story leaves no doubts.  They balance and challenge either.  It’s everything I love in a pairing!
There are great moments in this story that you’ll wish actually happened in the game. Shepard and Kaidan’s mission to restore water on Feros and watching the snowfall on Noveria are amazing scenes that still stick with me.  Nathaly Shepard is a deep and layered character with quirks, who feels real and fallible.  If you love a slow burn with a strong friends to lovers foundation, then you’ll love this story!

wip wednesday
I was tagged by @swaps55
from my Ashley and Aedan ME1 story (borrowing a bit of drink headcanon from @arandomfactoid )
“What’s your preference?”
Ashley frowned down at the menu and shrugged.  “I don’t know. Wasn’t really wanting a beer but none of the other stuff is familiar.”   The last time she’d sat down at a bar had been with Pachanko and Torres and they’d drunk margaritas made with Eden Prime limes and… “Something sweet, not sour.”
“Gotcha.” Shepard flagged down the bartender.  “I'll have whatever terran beer you’ve got in a bottle  and the lady will have the asari flare.”
“Asari?”
“Give a little, Williams.”  There was the slightest bit of impatience in Shepard’s voice and Ashley winced.  “It’s good, had it during the wedding party. It’s sweet, goes down easy.”
“Okay?”  The salarian placed a tall glass of something pink with a feathery sort of vegetation stuck in it and a light brown bottle in front of Shepard.  She hummed, pleased and took a long drink.
Ashley took a cautious sip from the clear straw and sat up, surprised. “It tastes like bubblegum.”  A bigger sip had her coughing.  “If someone dissolved it in gasoline!” She wheezed, “Goes down easy?”
Shepard’s smirk was just a little evil. “Well, the one I drank did.”
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes, “I can’t see you with a girly drink, for some reason.”  Cautious sips it was, then.
Something flickered underneath Shepard’s friendly face, but it was gone too fast for Ash to parse it. “Well, Gerte insisted.”
“Friends getting married.  You ever think about it?”  That was...not subtle.  She’d have to give the asari some credit for their liquor, anyway.
Shepard didn’t choke on her beer but the bland, friendly veneer cracked a little before she answered.
“My sex life is strictly between assignments.  I don’t like distractions when I’m working and I don’t think anything’s gonna change about that anytime soon. “ She pointed the mouth of the bottle back at Ashley.  “How about you? Anything cookin’?”
Ashley fiddled with the stick of pale green not celery that was decorating her drink. “I’m not long off a kind of relationship, actually.  Not really looking to do that again, right now.”
“Really? Do tell, Williams?”  Shepard settled back against the padded seat like she was settling in for storytime.
“Not much to tell. Jace was another Marine, we got along pretty well -Really well-but he got a good posting on a ship in the Fourth.  We tried to keep it up on just...y’know liberty and chat but…” she shrugged, “neither one of us was getting what we wanted and neither one of us was ready to give our careers up.  And now...this.  I don’t want the distraction, either.”
“Fourth is in Citadel space right now. Weren’t tempted to see if he was in the vicinity today?”
Ashley shuddered, “Oh, no ex-sex is the worst for messing with your head, don’t you think?”
“I couldn’t really tell ya.  I’ve been the rebound a couple of times, “she looked thoughtful for a second, “Probably.  But I don’t...do that whole...dating... thing.”
“What?  Never?”
“Nope.” Shepard popped the word like a bubble.

A baby is left abandoned in an old cemetery. A zombie with their mind intact, finds the baby and decides they want to become a parent. Everything’s fine until the kid hits school age, and then things get more complicated when parent teacher conference day rolls around
Here you go @lordkingsmith
The teachers didn't believe me when I said my Mom was a Zombie. They always laughed it off and referred me to a mental health specialist for having "too vivid imagination".
My mum found me in a cemetery, she'd been walking through. There'd been attacks throughout the city and she had no idea why I was there, but she took me in.
She's never bit me, never tried to turn me. But she always kept her mind, something she herself didn't seem to question until years later - her only focus was me.
The school would often ask me to bring my parents to school so they could discuss my education with me, but whenever I told them, they brushed me off saying I was a liar.
So on parents day, when all the parents were allowed to come into school, I shut down everywhere within a five mile radius, simply because I walked my mother to school, and the armed police arrived
"Cameron, what have we told you about this!?" The headteacher, Annabelle Wright hissed.
"I can hear you, you know. You're not being very nice to my son." My mother replies
"YOU CAN FUCKING TALK!?" Annabelle screamed.
The police edged closer
"You wanted to see my parents for Parents Day, I'm simply following your orders." I state as a matter of fact, a grin on my face.
Annabelle faints.
The police give shocked looks and ushers everyone inside.
"I uh... I think there's been a misunderstanding." The head of Police says, approaching us.
"You think?" My mum laughs

Writing-tag
I’ve been tagged by both @zet-sway and @rosenkow, thank you both dearly! Sorry it took so long to post this.
Tagging: @illusivesoul, @nightmarestudio606, @staff-lieutenant-alenko, @lyrishadow, @bardofheartdive and whoever wants to partake, just tag me so I can see! No obligations! (sorry, this tag was going on like last week, I don’t know who got tagged and who didn’t).
--
How many works do you have on AO3?
So far 13 (technically more because there is one work that’s a multitude of one shots for John, which has 2 chapters so a that brings it to a true total of 15),
What’s your total AO3 word count?
42,174.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
In Order:
1. Midnight Rannoch, M!Shenko
2. Reignite, M!Shepley
3. A Night Out On The Town, ShepShep
4. Addendum: A Collection of Short Stories, M!Shepley (that’s the one-shots mentioned above.)
5. A Night’s Gather, M!Shepley
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Yes! I take the time to read them, especially if they are heart warming comments, and it feels amazing to have my work validated, not going to lie since most of my stuff seems to be uninteresting to most it seems? And I absolutely love to reply back!
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I don’t have an angsty ending yet, but Reignite, is angsty throughout the whole thing because it takes place during ME2 and I hurt myself while writing it, and I’m quite proud of that.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Till Death Do Us Part.  It is as it sounds my M!Shepley get married post-war.
Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the strangest one you’ve written?
Nope.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
So far have had nothing but pleasant comments. Seems like people have sticked to “don’t like it, just move on” for now.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No doiiii. Of Course I do!
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nah.
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
My all time favorite is Shepley. Okay, hear me out before you all start ripping my head off. I started playing Mass Effect in 2007, yes fourteen years ago. There was only ME1 at the time, and if you were playing as BroShep you only had t he choice between Ashley and Liara, and If you were playing FemShep you had Kaidan and Liara (back didn’t I was not a fan of femshep, I seriously only started playing as femshep two or three years ago). I wasn’t a fan of Liara, I found her very pushy and obsessive; I liked Ash, she’s tough, funny, and altogether very similar to me in the tomboy-kind-of-way and so I stuck with her. M!Shenko was not a thing yet. ME2 came along three years later and I wasn’t really a fan of any of the other female crewmates, I chose Miranda but at the time I didn’t like her (She’s grown on me and now I like her).
So Ended Up Loyal To Ashley.
ME3 came along in 2012 and MShenko was now a thing. They became my next Ship, but only recently, and along side with playing as Leah, F!Shenko as well. So there you have it. That is why I am very attached to Shepley.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I don’t plan on not finishing any so far? they just might take a while to be posted? If ever because adulting is hard and takes so much time.
What are your writing strengths?
I really don’t know to be honest. I’m still new to this and have a lot to learn/master, and with such little comments to go on from it’s hard to say if anyone is enjoying my stories other than my beta, haha.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Combat! It’s hard to describe the movement, the layout, the actions themselves. But working on it.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I am bilingual, I can easily write French dialogue but choose not too,
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Never posted or shared, but I’m a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, and Xbox had a DND game (I’m talking original xbox here) and I really liked the game so I had written a fanfic mixing the two slightly.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Oof. I have to chose? I’ll pick two.
Reignite this all started with just a prompt too.
Happy Birthday, Shepard.

Series Overview: Rise
This was supposed to be Day 3 of @the-wip-project‘s 100 Days of Writing but Real Life is a thing so now it’s going up on the 5th and we’ll worry about catching up later. Continuing the Series Overviews with Veerla’s “canon” story.
Rise
I’m not sure if you’re supposed to have a favorite child project but this is definitely mine. This universe is a Reaper-less, Everybody Lives AU with a Shepard who’s a super secret biotic spy (more on that later) instead of an N7 and Cerberus as the Big Bad. For me, this universe hits the sweet spot of different enough to be mine but the same enough to be recognizable and I love it.
Quick Stats:
Shepard: Veerla Reneé Shepard
Colonist
War Hero
Adept (modified)
Love Interest: Donovan Lír and Kaidan Alenko (poly triad)
Other Important Relationships: femShep & David Anderson, femShep & Nihlus Kryik, Kaidan Alenko/Citadel Doctor, plus lots of OC / OC and OC & OC relationships
Favorite Completed Fic: What We Pulled From The Ashes. Veerla’s relationship with Anderson is one of the most influential in her life and this story shows the roots of that relationship. It takes place immediately after the Mindoir raid and gives a peek into Vee’s experience through Anderson’s eyes as he tries to help her recover.
WIP I’m Most Excited For: All of it. Sorry. I tried to pick just one but this universe covers so much time that I couldn’t. Soldier(s) Fallen (working title) is up there, which is a pre-canon, post-BAaT story focusing on Donovan and Kaidan’s friendship. The ME2 rewrite (unnamed) is another one I’m excited for, because it’s the most different from canon of the “game” stories. And, of course, Veerla’s recruitment and training as a spy (essentially her version of N School, since she didn’t go to N School).

Self-positivity ask! Show off some of your favorite bits of writing. It can be from a WIP or a published work, but go ahead an show off and be proud of your amazing work!
Thank you so much for this awesome ask whoever you are!! It means so much to me that you’re interested and thought of me. I’ve chosen a few passages all from already published works, some are under the read more including a long passage:
From A Cursed Blessing - Synthesis ending one-shot, F!Shenko:
He sees the husks helping rebuild in droves. Once grotesque reanimations of humans, asari and turians with the sole purpose to harvest are now breathing and civilized and have lives of their own. They are no longer hordes meant to kill. They're functional and cooperative. He laments at the thought that his father could be among them. He doesn't know what to make of them, and he can't decide if it's a blessing or a curse.
...
He turns in the middle of the night and moves his arm to envelope a body that isn't there. His fingers brush the empty pillow. He opens his eyes to see his arm, covered in green. He feels tears begin to form. He shuts his eyes tight and presses his fingers gently against his eyelids, and still sees green. Everything's green. He curses it and wants to scream. Just one night, he doesn't want the reminder. He clings the empty pillow tightly to his chest and imagines how he used to brush her hair out of her face as she slept. He remembers that this green sheen was because of her. The thought of it quiets his breath. He trusts in her decision. It was an end to the war, even if it wasn't how they'd planned it. He still doesn't know what happened up there, but he knows he would have done anything to stop the war. He knows he may very well have done the exact same thing as Shepard had their positions been reversed. It's a small comfort. He reminds himself that they'd won, and the war is over, and that's all that should matter. He willfully reaffirms that this is a blessing as much as it feels like a curse. He bunches the pillow up closer to his face and is saddened that it no longer smells like her. It hasn't for quite some time now. Eventually, he finds fitful sleep.
-
From This Ratty Old Thing - Post Alchera, Hannah Shepard grieving the death of her daughter:
She looked back to the screen then, any trace of mirth entirely gone. “Sometimes I wonder if we pushed you into this life. It was never my intention. As much as I’ve appreciated my time in the Alliance, I always felt like it was my only option. I never wanted that for you. I can’t deny that you’ve done well with it, but sometimes I wish I pushed you harder to consider other things. We never really talked about our careers much, but were you happy? Did you like it?” She cut herself off rather abruptly after that, realising she would never get a response.
Her gaze shifted back to the stuffed dog. Any semblance of happy memories was exchanged for something resembling disdain. “They never even found your body. How is someone supposed to grieve with no proof of death? I don’t even have any ashes. No dog tags. Nothing!” She was visibly upset now, still not looking at the screen. She waited until she calmed down slightly before continuing. “Nothing but this ratty old thing.”
She gave the toy one last glance as she brushed her thumb over the dog’s face, and set it down on the desk. She didn’t even bother looking back at the screen as she stood up, her finger hovering over the power button to her terminal.
“This was a mistake.”
She pushed the power button, and the room returned to blackness.
-
From Echoes of Old Embers - Post-War, accidental/fake dating, F!Shenko (this one’s long) Honestly, I think this has become my favourite story of mine, and it probably has most of my favourite passages in it, but only chose one to share:
Maisie walked up to them, moving to the beat as she made her way from the dance floor.
“What, you guys aren’t going to dance?” She asked with a beaming grin on her face.
Even if this was an ideal situation and she and Kaidan were somehow together, she would have had a good excuse for getting out of this one. She may as well have been a ballerina on the battlefield, but she had absolutely no rhythm when it came to dancing. Unless she wanted to make a mockery of herself, she wasn’t about to go out there. It was one thing in privacy with her crew. Under normal circumstances, she might not even mind letting loose here, but it would have been one more thing to draw attention to her. For the most part, Libby’s already had her magical night, but she still hated the potential to steal it from her and opted to want to stay on the sidelines.
“I’m afraid I’m a horrible dancer,” Shepard said.
“What?” Maisie asked incredulously, stopping dead in her tracks. “You can’t be serious. You?”
“Oh, she’s telling the truth all right,” Kaidan said from beside her with a snort.
“Hey! You’re one to talk. I seem to remember you making finger guns at that party in my apartment,” she said with a big grin on her face.
“Hey, now, this conversation isn’t about me. Maisie’s already well aware of my dancing abilities.”
“Uh-huh,” Shepard said with a smile that she couldn’t help thinking would wane the moment that Maisie left them alone again.
“It’s true, I know he’s got no game on the dance floor. You, on the other hand, are not allowed to say that without a show,” she said, all but ready to drag Shepard into the middle of the crowd when Shepard pulled back.
“Maisie, I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t want to draw attention to myself,” Shepard tried to say in a lowered voice.
Maisie huffed out a laugh at her. “Well, if that’s your goal, maybe you should reconsider. Have you taken a good look at that crowd?” she asked, turning to look at everyone dancing. “Everyone’s making a fool of themselves. Only ‘Commander Shepard’ would have a complex about this. If you ask me, I think standing on the sidelines is probably drawing more attention to you than however bad your dancing must be.”
Shepard looked out into the crowd. Sure enough, it was full of people just letting loose. No one cared about how they looked, though she still thought her skills were subpar to everyone out there. At the same time, she probably wasn’t bad enough to draw attention away from everyone else who was just out there having fun.
Shepard turned to Kaidan then, “Shit. She has a point, doesn’t she?”
“I’m afraid she might,” Kaidan said with a smirk.
“Yes! You know I’m always right,” Maisie said with a smile.
“You don’t have to rub it in,” Kaidan said, holding his hand out to Jane. “Shall we?”
“Can’t wait to see this,” Maisie said with a smirk.
Maisie took their glasses and Kaidan gave her the tiniest of glares before he and Shepard made their way out onto the dance floor.
“So, do you have a buzz going yet?” Kaidan asked.
Shepard looked at him, slightly amused. “A bit,” she answered.
“Good, because I think it’ll at least help us not be so self-conscious out here,” he said with a smile as he started dancing.
Maybe it was because she was teasing him about it moments before, but it seemed like he would be leaving his finger guns holstered for the evening. His rhythm was almost as bad as hers. In fact, it was as bad as hers. It brought back memories of them dancing in that casino on the Citadel when they were trying to figure out who stole her identity. Before they even knew she had a clone. They had the exact same dance style then too… And somehow she was always the one that got flack about it from the crew. It made her wonder how security at the casino never thought they were suspicious, because who would want to be seen dancing like that out in public? Shepard had to laugh at the memory of it.
“What?” he said, in mock offense as he stopped dancing immediately, thanks to her outburst. “You don’t like it?”
“No, it’s not that,” she said, grabbing his arms to get him to start bopping them again. “It’s just that, I’d say we’re two peas in a pod or something.”
She started mimicking his moves. Not that she was trying to match him or anything, but more because she legitimately didn’t know any other way to dance. She never knew what to do with her arms. Or her legs for that matter... or where to look. Practically nothing came naturally to her about dancing, but then again, she rarely ever had a partner. Today, she had Kaidan as a distraction and it was easier to let go of the insecurities, already knowing that she looked ridiculous, because he looked ridiculous too. They looked into each other’s eyes. It made both of them laugh some more as they kept dancing.
She didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the dancing, but the night’s tension finally started to feel like it was easing away. She liked seeing Kaidan let loose a bit. It wasn’t something that was typically easy for him either.
Before they knew it, they danced through song after song, and the tempo suddenly changed to something much slower. That made them both stop and catch their breath as they looked to each other again, wondering what to do.
Kaidan saw everyone else around them starting to dance, so he looked back towards her with a smile, holding his hands out in question for her to join him. “I guess we probably should.”
Shepard looked around her, realising the same thing. “Right,” she said as she put her hands in his, and he pulled her closer.
-
Thanks again for this ask! This was really fun to pick out some favourites.

WIP Sunday
Hey Everyone! I was tagged by to @chyrstis share what I’ve been working on a while ago, and I’ve finally gotten around to doing this. Normally, I would tag people, but since it has been a while, I’m not going to do that. However, If you want to share what you are working on, please feel free to do so. Just tag me so I can see!
Anyway, another edition of Kate writes things and doesn’t actually ever post anything.
The first snippet comes from another piece on Rooney’s stress about Cerberus. I don’t have a specific place on ME2’s timeline where it happens, but I am thinking that it probably takes place sometime after the ambush on the Collector’s ship. I haven’t quite nailed it down yet.
“Well, I am.” Shit. Several crew members turn their heads at the interruption. Garrus, Tali, Thane, Kasumi, Jack, Jacob, and a few other crew members are in the mess hall. Garrus, Tali, and Thane immediately stand up, clearly concerned. Rooney holds up a hand, telling the three that they will handle this. “Miranda, we are done with this conversation. If you feel you have more to say, just send it to me in a report.” They say, turning to face her.
Miranda shakes her head. “No. Someone has to tell you the truth.” Glaring at Tali and Garrus, she continues, “I won’t enable you like other members of the crew.”
“OOO!” Jack says. “Are you two gonna fight? Shepard will wipe the floor with you, Cerberus Cheerleader, and they’re not even a biotic.”
“My money is on Shepard, too.” Kasumi chimes in.
“We are not having a fight. Miranda, please put this the rest of this in a report.” Their headache grows worse, Rooney rubbing their temples again. Rooney just needs to get to their cabin. They’ll work on some reports while the headache dissipates. They turn away, desperate to get to the elevator.
“You’re a selfish coward, Shepard. You think you have the right to throw away your life. You don’t Cerberus spent millions of dollars putting you back together. The time we spent on the Lazarus project is time that could have been spent furthering Cerberus goals.” She paused. “I’m starting to think we didn’t bring you back properly. I should have scrapped you when we had the chance.”
The second snippet takes place in ME3 after the fall of Thessia. In this AU, Thane is still alive and part of the Normandy crew. Rooney is definitely not having a good time.
Rooney sits on the edge of their bed, hands in their lap as Thane returns. He’s carrying some antiseptic and medigel along with fresh bandages. Thane sits on the bed next to them, placing the supplies next to them. “Dr. Chakwas explained to me how to do this. I apologize, Siha, the antiseptic may sting a bit.” He says, gently taking their left hand. Unwrapping the bandages on their hands, Thane gently wipes them with a wet cloth.
Rooney grits their teeth, determined to show no reaction as he applies the antiseptic to their wounds. After he applies the antiseptic, he applies the medigel before wrapping their hand. “Dr. Chakwas thinks you should heal quickly,’ He states before taking their right hand, ‘What did you mean when you didn’t want to disappoint anyone?”
“What it sounds like.” He shoots Rooney a questioning look before returning his gaze to their hand. They sigh. “Admiral Hackett and the Council relied on me to get the data for the Crucible, and I failed them. They counted on me, and I failed them. Just like I failed my mother to protect Danny and Jack. Just like I failed to protect my squad on Akuze. Just like I failed Ash back on Virmire. Just how I failed Mordin. Just how I failed Legion. And now, I’ve failed Thessia.” Rooney tries to blink back the tears, but the tears fall too fast to thick for that.

ghosts.
to be entirely honest, i got overly ambitious with this one. another wip i started earlier this year and decidedly didn’t finish. you’ll probably be able to tell where the original ended i picked it back up -- but i liked the concept, so here it is.
f!shenko. post-alchera, post-me1. mention of major character death.
-
"I've never liked attending funerals, mourning people in general. Reminds me of everything I failed to do, and if I couldn't do anything, then that I should've been able to," Her eyes bore into his, head in her hands, "It's so many should'ves, and not enough 'dids'."
"You did all you could."
She's just out of reach, eyes downcast at the gardens of the Presidium. Still smoking, still mangled. She'd always said she hated the color black, hated mourning, but had worn it anyway. He's not sure what to do, looking at her standing there, but he reaches out for her anyway, "Did I?"
"Kaidan?" He retracts his hand from where he'd reached, pushing his elbows off the railing to face Liara. Dressed in black, accepting the human tradition though looking uncomfortable. Tired, not all there with dark circles etched underneath her eyes, "Tali is looking for you."
It takes him a moment to find his voice as Shepard disappears, Liara taking her place, "Why?"
"She...wanted to say goodbye before returning to the flotilla." Her voice is quiet, hoarse. The Asari hadn't been taking the death well, one of the more affected crewmates after the tragedy. He doesn't know why, but it isn't as if she didn't care for Shepard as well.
"So soon?" It'd only been a few weeks since Alchera, not even a full month yet. He hadn't expected anyone to stay if they didn't want to, the investigation against Saren had been over for months now. And they had only been here for Shepard regardless. Now, they didn't have any reason to be together, much less on the same ship. He didn't expect to become so attached to all of them, watching them go wasn't something he wanted to do.
"She didn't give any reasoning to her departure, if you were wondering," Liara answers, "Possibly, she isn't interested in staying."
"Is there anyone staying?"
"Garrus mentioned wanting to return to Citadel Security. I believe Wrex will return to either his mercenary lifestyle, or to Tuchanka," She pauses, turning her big blue eyes back to him. It was odd to think she was still just on the cusp of becoming a young adult in Asari culture, yet at times, times like these, was when her younger nature came through. The whites of her eyes were a bloodshot red, puffy. She'd been crying again.
"I trust Liara. She's a bit naive, but she's brilliant. Wish I was like that when I was her age -- or however that translates to us humans," Shepard's voice again, as if she's standing behind him. Her fingers ghosting over his own, her head on his shoulder, "Poor girl though. Losing her mother. Can't imagine how much that hurts. She doesn't talk about it, little worried she's deflecting from the problem entirely."
"I met her family today. They were very kind, and expressed their gratitude that I'd been a friend of her's. They didn't seem surprised, but I suppose when one dies, no one acknowledges the fact you're Asari. Only that you knew them in their life, and they cared about you enough to tell those they cared about who you were," Liara continues, snapping him out of his thoughts as Shepard's presence fades, "Losing their daughter though, that must've been devastating for them. She was a lovely person."
"It never gets easier," He responds in agreement. He hadn't had the heart to talk to Captain Shepard when he'd seen her around. He's almost glad he hadn't seen the youngest Shepard daughter milling around, after having met her after Shepard's first near death experience, Kaidan doesn't think he could find any other words to comfort her with, "I can't imagine what they're going through."
"I understand you were close to her, Lieutenant. I will not pry, but I offer what condolences I can," She offers him a gentle smile, pulling at the corners of her mouth while a tear slides down her cheek, lip quivering, "I did not expect for her to become so much to me so quickly. Why I find myself more upset about this than the events of Noveria, I'm surely broken."
"You're not broken, Liara. It's natural to grieve."
"For someone you knew for a few months instead of the woman who raised you?" Liara questions, "I think about this, some days. Had she not come to find me on Therum, whether I'd even be here today. How even though I was an alien to her, that she still cared for me as a friend. She did not mind me, in fact enjoyed my company. She did not poke fun at me when I didn't understand human mannerisms. She taught, she guided. Answer me this, Kaidan, why was she so important? Why is it impossible to stop thinking about her?"
I wish I knew, "She was a friend. Inspired a lot of people. She appreciated everyone, gave them purpose. It's normal for us to miss her, she gave her life so the rest of us could get off the Normandy," He answers, "There aren't a lot of people like her. Doubt we'll meet another Shepard in our lifetimes."
"Ashley gave her life to save ours, Kaidan. Maybe it was because of us, maybe I will feel horrible about it for the rest of my life, but I don't think I made the wrong decision, if that's what you're asking. I...would've switched places with her in a heartbeat, if it meant both of you would live. But fate doesn't work that way, and I chose you."
She'd been a mess then. Angry, frustrated, sad. Pacing around the mess late at night when she couldn't get to sleep -- he'd watched her fall apart. Losing Ashley had destroyed her, and yet she somehow made it sound like the right decision. It echoes in his head.
He still wonders if she chose right. He wonders if he chose right, going ahead to the escape pod instead of stubbornly staying with Shepard and forcing her along with him.
Now he'd never know.
"I suppose," She says shakily, gently wiping away rogue tears with delicate hands, "Ah, you are right. Still, she is someone I will not forget easily, but grief is finite. It is better we see her for how she was in life -- someone we were lucky to meet."
"That's all we can do," He agrees. And he echoes the sentiment, maybe it had been luck that drew them together. Maybe circumstance, he can't quite place it, "You know Shepard, she wouldn't have wanted us to wallow in that sadness."
"I do not believe Shepard intended to die," Liara gives him a quizzical look at the comment, before a gleam of understanding flashes through her eyes, "Oh. No, I suppose not. I do hope that where she's gone, that she's at least at peace for once. She's done so much for the galaxy, it is only fair that she finally rests."
"Vancouver, you said?" Liara grows quiet while Shepard's presence fades back, "I like the idea. Never been up there, but after this cruise, we'll carve a little time out for us. How's that sound?"
Her grin isn't really there, nor is the kiss that she'd pressed to his cheek just a moment after the sentiment was made. None of her is, "Yeah. It's only fair."
Liara takes her leave a little while later, the silence beginning to suffocate the both of them. The procession begins to thin out sometime after that, but he's still struggling to wrap his head around it. And he shouldn't be, not after she's already been gone so long. A part of him misses her more than he can verbalize, or even really rationalize.
What he'd give to have her back.
"The galaxy didn't end after Virmire, as much as I was convinced it would. Ash’s mom even called me once. I thanked her daughter for her service, and we talked for a while. Didn’t rip in to me for it, even though I deserved it," Soft, yet firm. He remembers how she'd leaned against a railing similar to this one, a lazy half-grin on her face before turning to him, "If anything happens to me, no one sets the galaxy ablaze. That's how we get villain origin stories."
He should move on, he hasn't even known her that long, and yet she's all that he can think about.
He's not sure he wants to live in a galaxy without her.

For half a heartbeat, when Shepard’s corona roars, Kaidan just stares. It’s like watching a phoenix burn itself to life, throwing off solar flares as it rises from the ashes. Thick, snapping tendrils of dark energy wreathe his body in a violent second skin, terrifying and glorious all at once. He can’t look away.
“Holy fuck,” one of the marines, Kaidan thinks it’s Beaudoin, murmurs over the comm.
Kaidan isn’t the only one who gets caught staring. Despite every weapon in the room trained on Shepard’s uncovered head, not one bullet finds its target in those first, vital seconds.
His helmet. He needs his helmet!
The shouting starts.
Shepard lashes out with one arm, sending a tidal wave of dark energy to his left and punting two batarians into the air. One snaps his spine against the mining laser a meter away. The other lands in a heap and is slow to get up.
Kaidan locks eyes on the discarded helmet and flicks his wrist, snaring it in a skein of biotic energy and yanking it towards him. He ducks out from behind the drill the moment it’s in his grasp, firing his pistol with one hand as he barrels towards Shepard.
Not fast enough. Not fast enough. Pendergrass, Wong and Beaudoin all come out shooting, drawing off a considerable amount of fire, but the turian and another batarian both have dead aim on the commander, and Shepard’s looking the wrong direction.
One of Pendergrass’ ECM grenades detonates at their feet, sending a surge of electricity through the air. Overheat klaxons start wailing, and when the turian hits the trigger, nothing happens but an empty click. The batarian roars, drawing his arm back. A hideous, zipping noise rips through the air as twin sawblades running parallel down the batarian’s gauntlet spin up.
Kaidan digs deep into the gravity well, a cold rush of dark energy lighting up his nerves. He lashes the batarian by the wrist before he can land the blow against Shepard’s head.
“Commander!” Kaidan bellows, then tosses the helmet.
Shepard snatches it out of the air and sets it down on his head in one fluid motion. His voice crackles over the comm right as his biofeeds come online. “Right on time, Lieutenant. Anyone got a gun?”
