LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
June 11, 2023
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
JUN 12, 2023
All weekend, Trump supporters have flooded media channels with accusations that President Joe Biden has weaponized the Department of Justice to use as a political cudgel against former president Trump, whom they characterize as the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
On Thursday the Department of Justice indicted Trump on 37 counts of hanging onto classified national security documents, deliberately hiding those documents from his lawyers and the government after a subpoena, lying about them, and showing them to people without security clearances and without any need to know about them.
Trump and his loyalists insist the indictment makes the United States a “banana republic,” by which they appear to mean a country with a corrupt ruling elite that uses the machinery of government against political opponents (though the historical meaning of that term actually is much more complicated). Sometimes in the same breath they call for arresting members of the Biden administration in retaliation; on the Fox News Channel on Friday, personality Greg Gutfield added First Lady Jill Biden as a potential target after Jesse Watters called for arresting “all of them, [former House speaker Nancy] Pelosi, too.”
There are a number of problems with their characterization of what is going on.
First of all, Biden’s Department of Justice has operated as it is supposed to: independently. While Trump apparently tried to use the department for his own political ends—we learned just last month, for example, that the Department of Justice kept an investigation of the Clinton Foundation open for almost Trump’s entire term, although prosecutors thought the rumors about the foundation were bogus from the start—Biden has gone out of his way to emphasize that he will not interfere with the Justice Department.
To underline that independence, after Trump announced his candidacy for president last November—an early announcement many thought was an attempt to avoid criminal prosecution—Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to oversee the two federal investigations that touched on the former president, thus deliberately moving those investigations outside the department. The special counsel is Jack Smith, and those investigations are the one into the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and the documents case currently in the news.
Still, the indictment came not from Smith, but from a federal grand jury of ordinary American citizens in Florida who reviewed evidence and determined that there was probable cause to believe that Trump committed crimes and should be tried for them. Trump’s defenders are trying to blur this reality by saying it was Biden who charged Trump, when it was really the members of a grand jury.
Trump supporters’ evidence for Biden’s corruption is that the Justice Department has indicted neither President Biden nor former secretary of state Hillary Clinton for what they claim are similar offenses. (It hasn’t charged Republican former vice president Mike Pence, either, but they are not talking about that.) The crucial difference in all three of those cases is that Biden, Clinton, and Pence did not try to hide the documents found in their possession and they cooperated fully with the Department of Justice to return them. (In addition, in Clinton’s case, most of the 110 emails that contained classified information did not bear classified markings.)
As Devlin Barrett of the Washington Post notes, Trump was not charged for illegally keeping any of the 197 documents he returned. He was charged only for ones he kept, lied about, showed to other people, and hid.
Republicans who are trying to pick up Trump’s voters, including Florida governor Ron DeSantis, are not defending Trump but are instead trying to argue that the Democrats are discriminating against Trump. “Is there a different standard for a Democrat secretary of state versus a former Republican president?” DeSantis asked.
That line of reasoning is swaying Republican primary voters, 88% of whom, according to a CBS News poll, say the indictment was politically motivated, although 24% of them agree that the loose handling of the documents was a national security risk. Trump and key supporters are playing to that base, using thinly veiled calls for violence. Meanwhile, Republicans who are likely hoping this will sink Trump are either dodging questions about the issue or, like Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, remaining steadfastly silent.
But for all the focus on the politics of this moment and the apparent attempt to rally the Republican base to violence, this is a legal case. Trump is accused of serious crimes that endangered—and likely continue to endanger—our national security, which means the safety of every American.
His alleged criminal activity endangers the operations of the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of Defense, the National Security Agency, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (in charge of imagery, maps, and intelligence concerning them), the National Reconnaissance Office (in charge of space-based surveillance and reconnaissance), the Department of Energy (nuclear weapons), and the Department of State and Bureau of Intelligence and Research.
It is notable that the two Republican presidential candidates who have served as U.S. attorneys—Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson—have both spoken out against Trump over it. So has Trump’s former attorney general William Barr, who told Shannon Bream of the Fox News Channel today: “I think the counts under the Espionage Act, that he willfully retained those documents, are solid counts… I do think we have to wait and see what the defense says, and what proves to be true, but I do think that…if even half of it is true, then he’s toast. I mean, it’s a very detailed indictment, and it’s very, very damning.”
Trump is reportedly having trouble finding lawyers to represent him in this matter, with Marc Caputo of The Messenger reporting today that one federal criminal defense lawyer he contacted in the Southern District of Florida said: “The problem is none of us want to work for the guy…. He’s a nightmare client.”
While committed Republican partisans seem to believe Trump is a victim, according to the CBS News poll, 38% of likely Republican primary voters do, in fact, believe Trump endangered our security—and national security, after all, is the primary job of the president.
Smith said on Friday that the department would seek a “speedy trial,” and if that indeed happens, the American people will hear Trump’s own lawyers and aides—for all the witnesses are his own hand-picked team members—testify under oath about Trump’s behavior. Under similar conditions, the testimony of Trump’s people before the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol effectively countered Trump’s propaganda. That Republican leaders see Trump as vulnerable is evidenced by how many candidates are already in the presidential race.
The question is how much damage the fight for control will do to the Republican Party, especially in light of the fact that Smith’s other investigation, the one into the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, has not yet been concluded. There is reason to suspect those congress members involved in that effort might have been spooked by just how thorough the investigation of the documents case turned out to be.
Guided by President Biden, the Democrats are refusing to comment on the indictment, likely in part to undermine the argument that it is about politics and also because they recognize that many Americans are just tired of drama.
Overall, though, they seem determined to redirect people’s attention to the reality that the Biden administration and the Democrats are actually governing according to the principles of a democracy. Frustrating as this tactic is to partisans, scholars who study how to restore democratic norms in a faltering democracy suggest that emphasizing those norms is crucial.

I found it hard to get to sleep on Thursday night, after seeing news that a Moscow court had charged the Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich with espionage. The images from outside the court shocked many of us. The Moscow press pack is a tight-knit community, and Gershkovich’s colleagues from the BBC, the Financial Times, Politico, and other publications posted “Journalism is not a crime” on their social media. As a journalist who has covered Russia for most of my career and worked closely with many foreign reporters, I count myself among Evan’s friends. The spying charges—a ludicrous pretext for what is, in effect, hostage-taking by the Russian state—threaten the 31-year-old reporter with a possible sentence of 20 years in prison.
Multiple Russian sources told me that, according to their knowledge of how Russia’s government operates, such a consequential action—the first arrest of an American journalist on espionage charges since the Soviet era—could not have been authorized without President Vladimir Putin’s assent. They also said that the razrabotka, an old KGB term for a surveillance and investigation operation, had begun against Gershkovich weeks before his arrest. It had been triggered, they said, by a paragraph in an article published in late December that carried his byline, along with those of three other Journal staff.
The Journal article described how intelligence reports from frontline commanders in Ukraine were “edited” by the KGB’s successor organization, the Federal Security Service, or FSB, before reaching Putin’s hawkish ally Nikolai Patrushev, a former KGB agent who’s now the secretary of Russia’s Security Council. A source with connections in the Russian state media who asked not to be named for reasons of personal security told me that they read the article as suggesting Patrushev was, in effect, “censoring the reports from the battlefields for Putin.” By the time the reports have been filtered through Patrushev and reach Putin himself, they are “often out of date,” the Journal reported, and “carefully calibrated to emphasize successes and play down setbacks” in the progress of the war.
Last week, a man was reportedly abducted from outside a restaurant in Yekaterinburg, near the Ural Mountains, and with his face obscured by a sweater pulled up over his face, he was bundled into a van by security officers. The Journal could not verify whether this man was in fact Gershkovich, but the reporter was in the city working on assignment, and the details described were instantly recognizable as the hallmarks of an operation by the FSB. Gershkovich was quickly transported to Moscow and locked up in the notorious Lefortovo Prison, where many victims of Stalin’s purges had been tortured and shot.
The very same FSB was the agency that certified the Russian foreign-affairs ministry’s clearance for Gershkovich, the usual vetting procedure for members of the international press in Putin’s Russia. “Old KGB officers always thought of Americans as their enemies, but now they see themselves fighting a war with Washington, so Patrushev and his key men in FSB are extremely vindictive,” Gennady Gudkov, himself a former KGB officer, told me.
He shared the view that the December Journal article had touched a sore spot among Putin’s associates—“so in their view,” the report was “driving a wedge between Putin and the FSB, between Putin and Patrushev.” Gudkov, who was also a deputy in the State Duma (one of the few willing to voice public criticism of Putin), told me that Patrushev has high political ambitions for his son, 45-year-old Dmitry Patrushev, who currently serves as Russia’s minister of agriculture.
After the Kremlin began its suppression in 2021 on the Nobel Prize–winning human-rights group Memorial, and last year forced the closure of Russia’s preeminent independent newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, the remaining foreign correspondents in Moscow commonly discussed whether they themselves might be the next target for the FSB. Those fears have now been borne out. I spoke with Ivan Pavlov, a leading attorney in Moscow who specializes in politically sensitive cases like Gershkovich’s. “Now the rules have changed,” he told me. “Every accredited correspondent for American media should realize that they are seen as enemies, as a potential hostage for swapping.”

San Francisco poster child
A homeless convicted child sex offender has set up camp near a San Francisco Catholic school and public library — along with large signs offering “free fentanyl” for new users and “meth for stolen items.” Joseph Adam Moore, 46, was imprisoned for six years for sex crimes, having molested a 12-year-old girl — and was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl just a month after getting out of prison, according to records obtained by the San Francisco Standard. The sex offender has also been arrested five times since 2007 for failing to notify authorities of his address as a sex offender, according to the outlet. He is now living in a tent on Ninth Avenue near the Stella Maris Academy and the Richmond District library — with photos showing hand-written signs saying “Meth for stolen items” and “free fentanyl 4 new users.” “It’s not a joke,” Moore told the San Francisco Chronicle of the drug signs while confirming he was a registered sex offender.***

A Washington homeowner fired multiple shots and scared off a group of three armed burglars attempting to kick down the front door while pretending to be Seattle officers, police said. Shocking surveillance video from Thursday morning shows three masked men arriving at a home on 117 PL SE, in Auburn. The suspects could be seen using their jackets and gloves to avoid touching the screen door directly as one of them yells, “Seattle Police.” Another suspect, dressed in a gray hoodie and sweatpants, then proceeds to try and kick the front door down, with an accomplice, dressed in all dark colors, helping him. When the door refuses to budge, the men take turns ramming it with their shoulders. As they continue to fail, a gunshot can be heard from inside the house.*** https://nypost.com/2023/10/19/homeowner-fires-at-armed-burglars-pretending-to-be-seattle-police

What happens when NGOs and gov't agencies make fat stacks from homelessness?
***dispute began in September 2021, when Seattle-based Unico paid $61.2 million for the five-story building. 7-Eleven had been a tenant for 11 years by that time. Within months of buying the property, Unico began complaining of problems there. “Over the last several weeks, one person has overdosed in front of the premises, a stabbing suspect fled into the premises, a partially clothed man slept in front of the store, a family slept outside (it), and an exterior window was shattered,” Unico’s property manager, Maria Clark, wrote to 7-Eleven’s corporate office near Dallas in August 2022. That letter, like others cited in this article, was attached as an exhibit to 7-Eleven’s lawsuit and obtained by BusinessDen from Denver District Court in a records request. Clark’s letter included 91 photos taken outside the 7-Eleven last year. Many showed transient people, but others displayed clean sidewalks and a presentable storefront. Those photos, according to Unico, were taken between January and April 2022 — when 7-Eleven was closed. To Unico, this was proof that 7-Eleven was attracting trouble, not a passive victim of it. So, Unico began billing 7-Eleven for the two full-time security guards and one part-time day porter that it hired at 1755 Blake St. The convenience store paid $20,000 to Unico under protest in December, then refused to pay another $54,000 that Unico demanded in March.*** https://www.denverpost.com/2023/10/19/7-eleven-homelessness-denver-lawsuit/

A beloved nursing student in Michigan was kidnapped and killed by her abusive ex-boyfriend, a doctor — who shot her in the head in Illinois and then took his own life in Iowa after first calling his parents. Gina Nicole Bryant, 25, a student at the University of Michigan-Flint, was killed by Dr. Justin Wendling, 26, of Holly, Michigan, at a gas station in La Salle, Illinois, on Oct. 13, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said.*** La Salle Detective Sgt. Brian Camenisch confirmed that Wendling, a medical resident at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township, “was responsible for the homicide based on our investigation,” the Detroit News reported. Bryant was reported missing on Oct. 12 after co-workers grew concerned when she did not return to work as a medical assistant after her lunch break and they began receiving odd messages from her phone, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said.*** “Tragically, surveillance video and witnesses from a truck stop in LaSalle, Ill., confirmed that the suspect had shot and killed the victim at approximately 12:00 a.m. on 10/13/2023,” the sheriff’s office said. “The suspect then fled to Bettendorf, Iowa. It was reported to the MCSO that as local officers approached the vehicle, the suspect shot and killed himself,” police added. Bryant had lived with Wendling in Grand Blanc Township after they began dating 11 months ago, her oldest sister, Angelica Gintner, told the Detroit News. In late September, Bryant’s mother and sister moved her out of the apartment after she told them that Wendling had been abusing her for months, according to the outlet.*** https://nypost.com/2023/10/19/nursing-student-shot-dead-by-doctor-ex-who-then-kills-self

Newly released surveillance footage shows the moment the violent felon accused of murdering tech CEO Pava LaPere was cornered after a desperate 11-day manhunt. Jason Billingsly, 32, could be seen sitting under an awning at Bowie train station in Maryland with an unidentified man on Sept. 30 — days after police warned that he was someone who “will kill and he will rape.” He’d been hunted even before the battered body of LaPere, 26, was found on Sept. 25, having been accused of the Sept. 19 rape of a woman who was then set on fire along with her boyfriend. After being spotted at the station, Billingsly had a spotlight shone on him as US marshalls appeared across the tracks, with one aiming a rifle at the suspect, the footage first obtained by the Baltimore Banner shows. Both Billingsly and the man with him immediately raised their arms to surrender.*** The arrest marked the end of a long manhunt for the 6-foot-4, 305-pound suspect who had been released on mandatory supervision after completing a rape sentence less than one year ago. Investigators applied for search warrants on Sept. 20, hours after he was accused of the “targeted” gunpoint rape of woman who was set on fire along with a man who was with her.*** https://nypost.com/2023/10/20/video-shows-arrest-of-pava-laperes-suspected-killer/

An off-duty pilot is charged with 83 counts of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to shut off the engines by pulling the fire extinguisher handles on an Alaska Airlines flight, according to officials. The plane was scheduled to fly from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco before it diverted late Sunday to Portland after a "credible security threat related to an authorized occupant in the flight deck jump seat," the airline confirmed to ABC News. The suspect allegedly tried to pull the fire extinguisher handles on the engines, preliminary information obtained by investigators indicated, according to a federal official briefed on the probe. The suspect was overwhelmed by flight crew and subdued and then handcuffed to a seat, the federal official told ABC News. The suspect, Joseph David Emerson, was taken into custody, the Port of Portland confirmed. Emerson is charged with 83 counts of attempted murder, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. Jareh Sebastian Dalke, 31, of Colorado Springs, pleaded guilty today to six counts of attempting to transmit classified National Defense Information (NDI) to an agent of the Russian Federation (Russia). According to court documents, from June 6, 2022, to July 1, 2022, Dalke was an employee of the National Security Agency (NSA) where he served as an Information Systems Security Designer. Dalke admitted that between August and September 2022, in order to demonstrate both his “legitimate access and willingness to share,” he used an encrypted email account to transmit excerpts of three classified documents to an individual he believed to be a Russian agent. In actuality, that person was an FBI online covert employee. All three documents from which the excerpts were taken contain NDI, are classified as Top Secret//Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and were obtained by Dalke during his employment with the NSA. On or about Aug. 26, 2022, Dalke requested $85,000 in return for all the information in his possession. Dalke claimed the information would be of value to Russia and told the FBI online covert employee that he would share more information in the future, once he returned to the Washington, D.C., area. Dalke subsequently arranged to transfer additional classified information in his possession to the purported Russian agent at Union Station in downtown Denver. Using a laptop computer and the instructions provided by the FBI online covert employee, Dalke transferred five files, four of which contain Top Secret NDI. The other file was a letter, which begins (in Russian and Cyrillic characters) “My friends!” and states, in part, “I am very happy to finally provide this information to you. . . . I look forward to our friendship and shared benefit. Please let me know if there are desired documents to find and I will try when I return to my main office.” The FBI arrested Dalke on Sept. 28, moments after he transmitted the files.*** https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/former-nsa-employee-pleads-guilty-attempted-espionage

U.S. Postal Service letter carriers from across Metro Denver rallied at the Aurora Main Post Office on Tuesday to raise awareness for increasing assaults and robberies and to call for more federal prosecution of the crimes. About 30 letter carriers stood outside the post office Tuesday night, listening to state and national union leaders and chanting “Enough is enough!” The Colorado State Association of Letter Carriers has tracked 10 assaults and robberies on metro-area letter carriers in 2023, President Richard Byrne said Tuesday, up from two cases reported to the group in 2022. Byrne, a letter carrier in Greeley, said people who commit crimes against federal employees should face federal charges.*** Denver letter carrier Ken Deuel worked for the Postal Service for 30 years before he was robbed and shot at during his regular route in South Park Hill in January.*** Assaults and robberies of letter carriers have sharply increased in the last decade, according to the Associated Press, with nearly 500 postal carriers robbed in the United States in 2022. “I took an oath to protect the sanctity of the mail, and now they’re like ‘Don’t worry about it, if you’re getting robbed, let them take whatever they want,’” Deuel said.*** “Every postal employee deserves to work in safety and to be free from targeting by criminals seeking to access the public’s mail,” Boxrud said. “In an increasingly challenging environment, the USPS and the United States Postal Inspection Service are highly focused on protecting postal employees and property and ensuring the secure delivery of the nation’s mail and packages.”

'She was special': Moncton homicide victim fondly remembered by sister
The sister of a woman stabbed to death in Moncton, N.B., this week says the family is still in shock.
Jessica LaPointe was making funeral arrangements for her big sister Kyla on Thursday when she spoke about the tragedy the family is dealing with.
"We're leaning on each other right now to get through everything and everything that we're going to have to go through," said LaPointe. "I think without each other right now it would be extremely difficult."
Kyla LaPointe was stabbed multiple times on Belleview Avenue in east-end Moncton early Tuesday morning. She later died in hospital.
Police say three people were arrested near the scene and have been charged with second-degree murder.
The RCMP's Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the homicide.
Originally from Bathurst, the 32-year-old was living in Fredericton with her partner.
She was the mother of four girls.
LaPointe said her sister was the biggest free spirit anyone could meet.
"Her favourite places were the forest, the beach, anywhere in nature," said LaPointe.
She called Kyla a loving and caring person who was beautiful on the inside and out.
"I could honestly just go on and on about her. She was special and she touched a lot of people. Almost anyone who came across Kyla left a different person," said LaPointe.
LaPointe said Kyla was on the committee for the New Brunswick Youth in Care Network (NBYICN), an organization that helps youth facing a variety of social challenges.
"She stood up for the rights of children in care," she said.
On Wednesday, NBYICN executive director John Sharpe expressed his sadness over Kyla's death in a Facebook post.
"We remember Kyla for her entire life and we reflect in sadness but also in gratitude for having known her," said Sharpe in the post.
Sharpe said Kyla was one of the earliest members of the network and gave personal testimony at hearings at the provincial legislature in front of the premier and members of cabinet.
"She was fearless," wrote Sharpe. "Her advocacy and passion to improve the system of care, which she knew all too well, was a guiding light to many and had an impact at the highest systematic levels."
In 2015, Kyla won a Muhammed Ali Humanitarian Award as an advocate who promoted policy, programming and resources for youth in the child welfare system.
She was 24 years old at the time.
"She met Muhammed Ali and gave a speech and it was wonderful," said LaPointe.
At the ceremony in Louisville, Ky., Kyla spoke about the difficulty of growing up in foster care.
"We were the first set of siblings from our home province to successfully graduate high school and continue on to college and university from the foster care system," Kyla said in 2015.
"All children deserve a loving home. All children deserve a supportive and stable environment where they feel safe and nurtured to accomplish anything that their soul may desire."
LaPointe said it was her sister's calling to help others and to speak her voice.
"Oh, absolutely. She just did that for anybody. She gave all of that out for free," said LaPointe.
She said navigating through life wasn't easy for her sister.
"It's so hard because she was so vulnerable herself and she gave out so much and it was her who needed it the most," said LaPointe.
Kyla's funeral will take place in Bathurst in the near future, but details are still being worked out.
"Every person has their own experience with Kyla and I think they will each remember her for that. She did something positive and different for every person," said LaPointe.
The three people, two men and one woman, who have been charged with second-degree murder in Kyla's death, will make their second court appearance next week.
"We will all be there," said LaPointe. "We just as a family feel like we need to be at the court cases from here on out to make sure she has justice for what happened to her."

A Very Abridged History Of Political Legal Trouble
A grand jury in Manhattan has voted to indicate former President Trump this Thursday, an unquestionably historical affair. The concept of a president facing legal danger displays a shift in the precedent surrounding the criminality of the head of the Executive Branch. To many, this showcases an apparent change ahead in US politics. There is no way to know what the future will entail regarding this case, but we can look at previous political crimes. It's necessary to note that Donald Trump is the first President to be formally indicted but not the first politician to face criminal charges. This essay details the story of several of these politicians and the gentle fall to corruption many of these politicians have encountered as a result of their political careers. Some of these politicians haven’t touched corruption. Some even have charges that have nothing to do with their political careers. Still, it is crucial to be aware of these figures to understand the current situation regarding the Indicate of the former President.
One of the foremost known politicians to get indicted for his crimes was Matthew Lyon, an Irish-born Representative representing the State of Kentucky. Lyon represented the Democratic-Republican party, staying in line with the political party's Southern roots with a resounding opposition to big government. Matthew Lyon prided himself on these values and acquired a profound resentment for the Federalists, whom he believed had pro-British sympathies. The introduction of the Alien and Sedition Acts created further tensions between these two groups due to the Acts allowing the government to have immense control over its people. These Acts were backed by the Federalists including the most influential Federalist, President Adams. Lyon detested these acts and considered these acts as oppressive and authoritative. He would write several letters decrying Adams's actions and expressing his beliefs against these acts. These efforts would go directly against the Acts that Lyons was opposing, leading him to get arrested on treason charges. Lyon harbored a prior history of acting out against Federalists, a notable incident occurring when Lyons spat on a fellow Representative (Roger Griswold) during a debate about whether or not to remove William Blount from the House due to suspected treason. Despite being in Jail, Representative Lyons gained further support and won the following election in a landslide. Under President Jefferson's administration, these acts would expire, and those affected by these Acts would be pardoned or refunded depending on their punishment. This example portrays an individual who chose to speak out against a government that had overreached its powers and paid the price. This would not become the standard as the country propelled onward with its history.
The introduction of deep corruption with actual arrests began around the Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt, having politicians with much more drastic offenses that didn’t just correlate to insignificant forgery and bribes. These criminalities would progressively get more extreme, and a prominent example of the variety of Land Grant frauds from Senator Mitchel, who allowed land grants in the State of Oregon to be illegally obtained with his help. While Senator Mitchel is not the only Senator who was involved in this, he was the one who took much of the fall during the trial as a high-profile Senator from the State of Oregon. These crimes display an essence of corruption that had been festering, and the opportunity to make money felt like an ok exchange for morality. This wouldn’t change, William Lorimer was known as the “blond boss of Chicago” and worked in the House during the Taft Administration. He was arrested for accepting bribes ($1,000 in 1910 an estimated $31,667.37 today) for a vote for a Senator. Lorimer was never arrested but was expelled from the House, but this did set a precedent surrounding the corruption seen with indirect voting for Senators. These acts led to the passage of the Seventeenth Amendment, allowing Citizens to vote directly for their Senators. Many Presidential administrations would become known for their rings of corruption, President Grant would be known for his corruption in his cabinet, and Truman’s administration also faced a variety of accusations of deep corruption. This corruption wouldn’t stop and arguably hasn’t. Upon looking at a list of all the corruption seen in government, it becomes clear that the arrests get progressively more frequent around the Nixon administration. While actions have been taken to contain criminality, corruption breeds in the beds of power. This corruption was seen in the pursuit of power, and is obviously because of the closest we’ve gotten to a presidential indictment before this moment- The Watergate Scandal.
The Watergate Scandal displays a turning point in what is allowed and what will be prosecuted. What will be shamed? Those indicted for the actions of Watergate include John N. Mitchell, Egil Krogh, Richard Kleindienst, Dwight Chapin, H. R. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman, and a variety of others who committed a medley of offenses. Of these crimes, perjury, and obstruction of justice were the most considerable offenses levied towards the charged; ranging from some being forced to step down to some serving time. A notable absence is of course the lack of President Nixon. Nixon was not involved in a variety of offenses despite playing a pivotal role, many people theorized this is because ‘the president is above the law’, the truth of that is debatable, but Nixon's political career was over. Nixon's life after resignation had immediately taken a drastically negative turn as he almost immediately fell ill with severe phlebitis that needed to be operated on, only to be in shock due to internal bleeding after the events of this surgery. After recovery Nixon's financial situation had only gotten worse as his assets were slowly seeping away. Nixon had also been disbarred and had to rely on reforming his image over the next twenty years of his life to make and maintain any type of money. At the end of his life, Nixon reached a different level of appreciation as the consequences of Watergate felt much more minimal during the Clinton administration. Still, much of the public knowledge of Nixon almost thirty years post-mortem came from his contributions to Watergate and this distinct absence of any criminal charges for him.
This brings us to the recent charges brought against Donald Trump. As the first president, we are treading on untreated territory, even having questions on whether or not it would be ok to handcuff the former president. Hopefully, this historical analysis gives a bit more of an understanding of the conditions we are currently seeing, and the importance of the following weeks.
***Thank you so much for reading if you got this far! Please let me know if you enjoyed it and let me know if there is anything I should change. I hope for this to be a weekly series depending on the amount of work I have for each week. ***

California – A woman who fired a gun at her neighbors has been arrested by police after a nine hour standoff that included the SWAT team being called to her San Diego apartment and her standing topless in front of her shattered window on Thursday. Police were first called to 35-year-old Brittany Lefler’s apartment on Beadnell Way around midnight after numerous neighbors complained about the noise coming from her home, CBS 8 reported.   Officers left her home once she quieted down, but around 5am, she was reportedly spotted walking around with a handgun as she allegedly threatened the neighbors who she believed called the police on her.   More NUTTY NEWS APPs: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch – Android Nutty News Today – Nutty Videos – True Prisoner Stories and Pictures – Technology News  – Nutty News on Facebook CRIME & ASSAULT ARE EVERYWHERE TODAYWATCH THE VIDEO BELOW & DEFEND YOURSELF CLICK HERE for More information on theTaser Pulse Black w/Laser

and bc i have no self control. #41 kisses to shut them up for rhodeytony
So this one spiraled so quickly, because I also have no self control! And now it’s a 3.4k words of 5+1 for Rhodey and Tony’s first kisses together. Hope you like it :)
The first time is something of a joke. Tony is doing that rambling thing like always, hands moving around rapidly and coming dangerously close to smacking passersby in the face. He gets more than a few dirty looks for it, but he doesn’t seem to be noticing. Rhodey isn’t even sure what he’s ranting about anymore. Maybe one of his professors, or that annoying guy in his physics class. All he does know is that he wants to get to the cafeteria before they run out of pizza and Tony walks slow when he’s talking. So Rhodey grabs him by the wrist when his hand flies in front of him again, spinning him around and planting his lips firmly against Tony’s for just a moment. It does the job of stunning him into silence, but it also makes him freeze completely on the sidewalk. Rhodey keeps walking, and Tony has to run to catch back up.
“What was that for?” Tony asks, eyes wide.
Rhodey shrugs, “Had to shut you up somehow.”
Tony makes an offended squawking sound, hitting Rhodey with the too long sleeve of his sweatshirt. Rhodey’s sweatshirt, technically.
“That’s rude,” Tony says. “You’re getting me ice cream to make it up to me.”
Rhodey laughs, slinging his arm over Tony’s shoulders to pull him along. “Whatever you want, Tones.”
______________
If the first was a joke, the second is just the repeat performance. Between Rhodey’s basic training and Tony’s recent and sudden rise to CEO, it’s been almost three months since the last time they’ve seen each other. Basic has him questioning everything and feeling like a bit of failure. He should have been able to handle it better. The homesickness, the pressure, the constant grind of work. It’s been the dream for so long that he doesn’t know what to do with the feeling he has now.
“Maybe I should quit.”
Tony snorts inelegantly, “Pretty sure that’s called deserting and it’s a crime.”
“So I’ll go on the run,” Rhodey argues, like it’s a perfectly reasonable response. “I’ll move to Tahiti or Fiji or one of those other islands. Wait, you have a private island, right? I could go there, and if anyone comes for me, I’ll just take a rowboat out to sea, and they won’t have any jurisdiction on the water to arrest me. I’m pretty sure that’s a thing. Right? It’s -”
Tony’s lips are a little sticky from the beer he’s been drinking, and his hands are warm where they cup Rhodey’s cheeks. He doesn’t understand what’s happening or why, and at first he can’t think enough to react. When he can think again he can’t decide whether to push him off or kiss him back, and he still hasn’t reached a conclusion when Tony pulls away. He doesn’t know if it lasted two seconds or two minutes, and it’s confusing to realize that he isn’t sure which he would prefer.
“Wow, that is effective,” Tony grins. “Thought maybe it was just me it works on, but I should try that on board members sometime if it’s that good.”
Rhodey gapes at him when he connects the pieces. “Seriously, Tony? That happened two years ago, and I’m in the middle of a crisis right now.”
"No, you were spiralling and now you’re not," Tony says simply. "Situation resolved by not talking about it."
"That's not how that works."
"Of course it is. How do you think most fires get put out? By putting a lid on them until they die."
"Alright, ignoring that that's not even true, what the hell does it even mean?"
"It's very true, and what it means is that I have put a lid on this irrational fire, so it doesn't have the chance to spread and ignite the rest of your life. Containment, honeybear. It's about containment."
"That's a terrible analogy," Rhodey says, and Tony tosses his hands in the air.
"What do you want from me on the spot?"
They spend most of the night trying to come up with something better, laughing and drinking the rest of the beer in Tony's fridge, until Rhodey forgets that he was ever stressed in the first place.
______________
Their third kiss is an accident. It happens somewhere in between Rhodey deciding that he hates Tony's new boyfriend and him realizing exactly why that is.
He comes back from six months overseas, and it's a few days ahead of what he was expecting. He told Tony Thursday, but his plane touches down in California on Tuesday morning, and he gives the taxi driver Tony's address without a second thought. Tony likes surprises, and he has no reason to think this might be a bad one.
He uses his key to let himself in, fully knowing that Tony won't be awake yet to answer the door. The first traces of sun are just starting to filter in through the windows, and Rhodey sets his duffle bag down near the door before moving into the kitchen. Tony's refrigerator is nearly barren, but there are a few eggs and a green pepper that would be rotten by tomorrow that he can make due with. He finds an onion, too, and falls into a rhythm while dicing vegetables.
It's this kind of thing that he misses when he's away. He misses having a kitchen and making what he wants in it, even if this isn't his kitchen or his first choice of food. But he misses the simplicity of it all. Life on the base seems alternate between too fast and too slow, but this is all his own pace.
He hears footsteps on the stairs a little after the eggs hit the pan, and he glances over his shoulder to watch Tony shuffle into the room while rubbing his tired eyes. If he had stayed turned around a little longer, their third kiss wouldn't have happened at all. By the time Tony opens his eyes, Rhodey's back is to him again.
Instead of instantly reacting, Tony slowly wanders over and puts his hand on Rhodey's shoulder. The words are mumbled when he says, "You're up way too early," and Rhodey doesn't have time to process how strange the sentence is, because he's being kissed the second his head turns. Not the shut up kind of kiss or even that sort of friendly peck he's seen people do sometimes. It's the kind where Tony's tongue is slipping between his lips, and his hand is wandering lower. The kind that friends don't share, but lovers definitely do.
Rhodey falls into it without question.
The spatula clatters to the floor from his hand, and Tony laughs into the kiss before pulling back. There's a grin and a joke on his lips that's quickly replaced by dawning horror.
"Rhodey?" Tony squeaks out. His hand flies up to cover his mouth, and through it Rhodey hears, "Oh, shit." He looks down at the complete lack of space between their bodies, dropping the hand to raise them both in front of himself like a defense as he backs away a couple of steps. "Fuck, I'm so fucking sorry. I thought - you weren't supposed to be here yet. Thursday. That's - you said Thursday. Didn't you?"
It's like ice water with how quickly the warmth of that kiss leaves his body.
Rhodey raises an eyebrow and plays at unaffected. "I did, yeah. Seems like you should attack an intruder instead of kissing them, though."
Tony's cheeks turn a vibrant shade of red, and he runs a still shaky hand through his hair.
"I thought you were someone else," he sheepishly admits. "It's just that from behind you, um, well you look a lot like Ryan, and he wasn't in bed still when I got up, so I came down here, and, uh, I guess you know the rest of that story."
Ryan, Rhodey's mind bitterly repeats. The guy Tony's spent the last three months talking about on the phone and in his letters. It's always about him in some way.  He told me the funniest story yesterday, Rhodey or Isn't he so romantic, platypus? But Tony seems happy, so he fakes a laugh at a story that definitely isn't funny retold and agrees that string quartets are romantic instead of horribly cliché. He helps him plan dates when it's Tony's turn, because apparently that's yet another adorable thing they do together.
He just barely suppresses the sigh before saying, "Don't worry about it, Tones. It's all good."
Tony looks relieved, and after an awkward minute or two they fall back into their normal conversation like it never happened. They talk about the missions Rhodey has flown for and the designs Tony has been working on between bites of burned eggs and coffee.
Neither of them ever mention that Rhodey kissed him back.
______________
Tony and Rhodey are both drunk for the fourth. The music is loud at the club, and the air is a smoky haze. It's someone's birthday, he thinks, but he can't really remember anymore by the fifth shot of tequila.
He leans back against the bar on his elbows, watching in drunken amusement while Tony tries to put the moves on someone to hold up his end of the bet. The guy looks like he isn’t quite sure what’s happening, and Rhodey laughs into the rim of his glass. All he needs is one kiss, and Rhodey will be out the contents of his wallet. He isn't even sure what those contents are, and Tony wouldn't let him check before the handshake. It could be anywhere from a nickel to fifty bucks, he figures, which is worth it to watch this complete trainwreck.
It takes another ten minutes of flirting before Tony finally gives up and comes back over to the bar.
“Loser,” Rhodey teases. “What happened to having ‘game so good a straight man would fall to his knees?’”
Tony flips him off and steals the glass from his hand. “He has a girlfriend, which is the only reason it didn’t happen.”
“He didn’t even realize that you were flirting with him, did he?” Rhodey laughs, and Tony pouts pitifully.
“The no touching rule wasn’t fair.”
“A good bet doesn’t involve actual harassment,” Rhodey reasons, just like he did earlier in the night. “If you can’t get them to kiss you by flirting with just words, they wouldn’t want you touching them in the first place. It’s called consent.”
Tony rolls his eyes, “I do not need to be taught about consent. I am the king of consent. Enthusiastic, resounding consent, even.” He pauses, and there’s a dangerous look in his eyes when he narrows them at Rhodey. “Okay, I know that this about to go against everything I just said, but it’s you, and we don’t have rules, right?”
“What?”
“Just say yes.”
“Yes to what?”
Tony leans in with enough time that if Rhodey really wanted to, he could pull away. He could put his hand over Tony’s mouth or step to the side or simply tell him no and Tony wouldn’t do it.
But he doesn’t do any of those things.
He lets Tony cup the back of his neck to tilt his head to the right angle, and he threads his hand into Tony’s hair in return. His lips taste like the vodka and cranberry juice from the stolen glass, until Rhodey has kissed him so thoroughly that he can’t taste it anymore.
“There,” Tony says, grinning proudly like he’s just done something exceptionally smart. His breath is coming quickly, and Rhodey’s head is spinning with the thought that he’s the one that did that to him. “I got a straight man to kiss me. Pay up.”
Rhodey laughs, full-bodied with his head tilted back. “No, man. You definitely didn’t.”
Tony’s still a little too drunk to fully understand what he means by that, and he takes it as if Rhodey’s saying that he stole the kiss, rather than earned it. He spends most of the night after that trying to get him to kiss him again on his own accord, but Rhodey doesn’t want another one like that. He wants Tony’s soft-eyed gaze on him, and his body held tight in his arms. He wants to hear him say the same words he’s saying right now, but to have him actually mean it when he says the word please. Like he won’t be able to live for another second without Rhodey’s lips on his.
He doesn’t want the joke anymore, but he knows he won’t ever get to have the real thing.
______________
Rhodey is half asleep for kiss number five, and he isn’t even quite sure that it actually happens. He’s lying in a hospital bed somewhere in Germany, he thinks, and machines are beeping all around him. He can’t really remember what brought him here as he drifts in and out. There was some kind of fight - that much is obvious. He sees flashes of bullets in the sky, flames, and a rapidly plummeting altitude reading. Was it a mission gone wrong? An attack they weren’t expecting? One of the machines ticks a little faster when he tries to clear his head enough to think about it, and then darkness takes over again.
When he partially wakes the next time, there’s something warm and solid in his hand. It shifts a little, brushing lightly in circles over his skin, and it takes him a longer amount of time than it should to realize that it’s another hand. But when he does, he knows without a doubt who it belongs to, and the thought sends him back into sleep with a warm feeling in his chest.
He finds out later that he was unconscious for three days, and Tony hardly leaves his side for a minute of it. Rhodey doesn’t want to say how that makes him feel, so he falls back on what he does know how to say.
“You should really at least go back to the hotel to take a shower. You’re starting to smell, man,” he says after the doctor leaves the room.
Tony gives him a weak laugh, running his hand through his hair and grimacing at the oily texture. "Maybe in a little bit. You just woke up."
Rhodey shifts against the pillows, tilting his head to get a good look at him. His clothes might be the same ones he showed up here in, all wrinkled with a coffee stain on one of his sleeves. The circles under his eyes are darker than he's ever quite seen them before, and he looks too pale.
Tony isn't supposed to look like that.
He's supposed to be sunlight embodied, all tanned skin and bright eyes and fluid motion. But this Tony is slumped over in his chair, small and fragile looking like the wrong word could destroy him completely. This Tony offers him a brave face and a delicate smile that doesn't reach his eyes, and Rhodey can't stand it. Can't stand that it's his own fault he looks like that.
Stretching his arm out, he turns over his hand to open his palm. The movement tugs at his injured shoulder, but he grits his teeth to hide the pain and it's worth it to have Tony's hand back in his where it belongs. He squeezes gently, and Tony squeezes back.
"You almost died," Tony whispers. "You're not allowed to die."
"I won't do it again," Rhodey says, even though they both know he can't make that promise.
Tony nods, and for now that can be enough. He switches the topic to something else so they don't have to talk about it anymore. So Tony doesn't have to say what the last three days felt like, and Rhodey doesn't have to admit that his last thought before the plane went down was regret that he'd never get to have this again.
Tony makes him laugh until his battered ribs are aching with it, until they've talked about everything and nothing and sleep is pulling at Rhodey again. It's hard to keep his eyes open, and he fights it until he can't any longer.
A hand runs over his hair, and down the side of his face to linger on his cheek. Rhodey leans into the touch with closed eyes as Tony murmurs, "I'll come back tomorrow. Don't you dare do anything stupid like dying while I'm gone."
He feels the warmth of Tony's breath on his skin the moment before Tony kisses him. It's a barely there, wisp of a thing, right on the corner of his mouth. There one instant, then gone the next. It's the last thing he feels before slipping into sleep again.
______________
“I’m so old,” Tony groans, flopping down on the beach chair next to Rhodey’s. “Ancient. Decrepit. On death’s door.”
“You’re thirty,” Rhodey says, and he laughs at the pout on Tony’s face. “I’m a year older than you. What does that make me then?”
“A senior citizen, just like me.”
Rhodey lifts his beer from where the bottle was balancing in the sand and clinks it with the bottle in Tony’s hand. “Welcome to the club then. We’re happy to have you.”
Tony kicks off his shoes and tucks his feet under his thighs as he settles back in the chair. It’s quiet out here on the beach, away from the crowds and noise from the party. The crashing of the waves and the distant thrum of music are the only sounds, and they watch the water in the still of the night for a while.
“Don’t you want to get back to the party?” Rhodey asks softly, unwilling to break their bubble of peace. “It’s for you.”
Tony shakes his head. “I like it better out here.”
“Want me to kick everyone out for you?”
Tony looks over his shoulder at the house, filled to the brim and lights flashing from every window. He leans over the inch between their chairs and rests his head on Rhodey’s shoulder. “No, they can have their fun in there, and I can have mine here.”
Rhodey cards his hand through Tony’s hair, feeling warm despite the cool breeze. “This is fun for you, huh? Sitting in silence?”
“It’s always good with you,” Tony murmurs, so quiet that Rhodey almost loses it to the ocean. He’ll always be thankful that he didn’t.
He lets his hand go lower, slipping from his hair to run his thumb along Tony’s jaw, and it would be so easy, he thinks, to kiss him right now. To tilt Tony’s chin up and turn his head to the side just a little. To brush their lips together, slowly at first, then steadily growing more desperate as he gives in to everything he’s wanted for so long. He thinks of the way Tony would sound, if he would sigh or moan or whimper under his mouth. Tony would be sticky sweet from the buttercream on the cupcakes from earlier, and Rhodey would taste sugar on his tongue.
“Rhodey,” Tony whispers, looking up at him. The moon is reflected in the deep brown of his eyes, and Rhodey wants to keep this image of him in him in his mind forever. “Can I tell you what I wished for?”
“Won’t come true if you do,” Rhodey whispers back.
“I think it’s the only way it might,” Tony answers, and he seems even closer than he was before.
“What did you wish for?”
Tony’s cheeks are flushed, and Rhodey thinks for a moment that he’s going to lose his nerve to say whatever it is. He’s ready for the joke instead, but it never comes.
“For you to kiss me,” Tony says with an unsteady breath. “For it to mean something when you do.”
Rhodey slides his hand a little higher, and he strokes across Tony’s cheekbone. He doesn’t miss the way that Tony’s eyes flicker down to his lips. “And what do you want it to mean?”
“Everything.”
“Everything,” Rhodey repeats, and Tony smiles, soft and unsure. “I think I can manage that.”
______________
Years later, Tony still likes to tease Rhodey about their first kiss, except now it's become their thing. The interrupted sentences sometimes get finished after and sometimes don't because kissing Tony is more important than whatever it was that he had to say in the first place.
He loses count of what number they’re on. One thousand or one million, it could never be enough. They have all kinds of kisses now. Early morning, sleep-hazed kisses, and quick, little pecks on the way out the door. Good night kisses that turn passionate and desperate as often as they stay innocent and sweet. Reluctant ones when Tony is mad at him for something silly, lingering ones in apology.
Each one still means everything.

Among the many weapons of choice carried by the domestic terrorists who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, one of the more common was the ordinary nylon zip tie. In addition to their well-understood industrial uses, these flexible, non-yielding fasteners are also commonly used by law enforcement as restraints.
Since they have a perfectly innocent utility, carrying them can hardly be considered a crime under normal circumstances. But when one has no such utilitarian intentions and proceeds to instigate a confrontation in a non-violent environment, such as a school, carrying zip ties can have only one purpose: to intimidate, frighten, or to inflict bodily harm.
An Arizona parent enlisted the assistance of two friends after his child was told to quarantine from possible exposure to COVID-19. Equipped with what have been characterized as “law enforcement zip ties,” the three then proceeded to enter their son’s school and threaten the principal.
As reported by Andrea Salcedo of The Washington Post:
When an Arizona school employee called a parent on Thursday to share that his son had come in close contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus, the dad was told his son must stay at home for at least a week.
Instead, later that morning, the man walked into Mesquite Elementary School with his son and two other men carrying zip ties before confronting the principal over the school’s quarantine policy, Vail Unified School District Superintendent John Carruth told The Washington Post.
In a meeting with the principal, Carruth said, the men threatened to call local authorities and conduct a “citizen’s arrest” if the student was not allowed to rejoin school activities immediately. That is when the principal, who explained that the school was following guidance issued by the local health department, ordered the trio to leave, Carruth said.
Mesquite Elementary School is in the Vail School District, which under Arizona state law follows the recommendations of the local health department (in this case, the Pima County Health Department). The principal and the Tucson-area school were simply following state protocol in requesting the child to quarantine, a fact that was repeatedly explained by the principal to all three of the intruders. Police arrived after the incident, which left the principal unharmed, after all three men had left the building.
The two individuals accompanying the parent are described in The Post article as a “local business owner,” and the other simply as a member of the local community. The father, identified by Justin Rohrlich of The Daily Beast as 40 year-old Rishi Rambaran, was later arrested, cited for trespassing, and released.
As Rohrlich reports, the “business owner” accompanying Rambaran was one Kelly Walker, who is quite active in right-wing self-promotion.
Walker, a local marketing strategist and copywriter, co-owns a coffee shop in Tucson with his wife and in-laws. The shop, which describes itself as “Tucson’s hub of Freedom and delicious coffee,” recently hosted a meet-and-greet with far-right author and convicted felon Dinesh D’Souza. Next month, Walker, who compared Thursday’s elementary school dust-up to Rosa Parks’ struggle for equal rights, will be welcoming Matthew Lohmeier, a disgraced Space Force lieutenant colonel who was relieved of his post in May over a self-published book warning of an impending “white genocide,” as well as a “neo-Marxist agenda” within the military “designed to patiently and methodically overthrow the US government and replace it with a communist dictatorship.”
Walker recorded a video of himself in his car en route to the school, and another of the confrontation with the principal, which he then proudly posted on Instagram. At the outset of the first video, Walker explains that his friend, Rambaran, had called and requested his assistance. Although he notes he has no children in the school system (he took them out to homeschool them), Walker claims he’s standing for his community in the video, by opposing what he calls “lawbreakers” who are “gonna bully their own people” with their “ridiculous sedition.” He also calls on fellow community members to assist him in this confrontation as “backup.”
Isn’t it about time to charge the manchildren with attempted murder for bringing someone they know could easily be infected with a deadly virus that has killed over half a million people, minimum, in the US?
Walker’s second video depicts the actual incident involving Principal Diane Vargo. In it, the third individual (who has not been identified) can clearly be seen holding the zip ties; Walker even proudly holds them out for the camera, saying “We’re just going in to talk … first.” Walker can be heard explaining his rationale to his anticipated Instagram audience, and the remainder of the video is filmed in the principal’s office, with the child (who appears to be about nine years old) present.
“I’m in touch with the legislature,” Walker proclaims as he harangues Vargo. “You are acting against the law … If you try to keep doing this you’re going to have a big problem.” He also claims to be “a scientist, who wrote about COVID.” In an unintentionally amusing moment, Walker declares that its not his desire to be “adversarial,” even as his thug friend stands in front of Vargo with zip ties at the ready. To her immense credit, Vargo remains calm and even seems bemused throughout the incident.
Rambaran, the parent, a burly man twice the size of the principal, then declares that the law has been violated because his child was forced to wear a mask, and declares that the principal may thereby be arrested: “I’m not joking.” he says to the principal’s assistant. Walker then chimes in and says, “We’re done playing games.” The principal then asks all of the men to leave, after explaining the protocols she is required to follow, and Walker refuses.
The content of the video was also summarized by an Associated Press:
“I have asked you to leave the office,” the principal at one point calmly tells the men, according to video posted on social media.
“No, we’re not leaving,” a man’s voice responds. “You’re trying to control the situation. You’re not going to control the situation.”
Rambaran becomes more menacing at one point, threatening to arrest the principal and reiterating that she “does not control the situation.” The video shows Rambaran speaking to his wife on the phone as well. Significantly, his son appears to bend over, holding his head in his hands at the 11:12 mark of the video, and maintains this position for about 30 seconds.
About 12 minutes into the video, the principal finally decides she’s had enough. With the unidentified man stalking about in her office, brandishing the zip ties with both hands, Rambaran stands up and declares he’s prepared to be arrested. Walker pontificates some more about his relationship to the attorney general and adds a few memorable untrue statements, such as “no one has ever said that masks stop transmission [of the virus].” The video ends before the trio leave the building.
This, of course, is merely the most recent incident of angry, misinformed parents essentially being egged on by bogus right-wing rhetoric. The threat of making a citizen’s arrest by means of forcibly restraining a school official is unique, however, and speaks to the hidden element of menace and violence that permeates all through this type of rhetoric. The only reason zip ties would be contemplated is if they expected a struggle to ensue. The added performative element to these incidents, in which everyone seems to be auditioning for some type of reality show, is equally disturbing.
At some point, the confluence of a still-misinformed, ignorant and frustrated public—a culture that essentially glorifies and extols the virtue of guns and melodramatic violence as a way to resolve disputes—and a continuing, lethal pandemic are bound to reach critical mass. As the delta variant continues to wreak havoc among the unvaccinated population,  and with the school year just beginning, the question seems no longer to be if something bad is likely to occur, but rather when and where.

“Do you have any idea who could have done this to you?” Amanda was standing next you at the end of a hospital bed talking to a victim that had been assaulted when she opened her door to her apartment.
“I think so. Ray Wilson. He has been stroking me since College. It stopped while he was doing some time. He got out a month ago. I got a letter from him 2 weeks ago. It freaked me out, but I tried to put it behind me and not be paranoid”
You and Amanda walked out of the room and Amanda called Liv straight away to fill her in. “Ok copy that” and she hung up.
“We need to go to Barba and get a warrant for DNA. I ‘am sure warrants won’t be a problem now he is your boyfriend”
“He’s not my boyfriend-yet, so let’s stop and get coffee before just in case”
“Hey Carmen” you and Amanda both said as you walked into Rafael’s waiting room.
“You go ahead, I need to run to the ladies” and Amanda walked off. You hadn’t seen Rafael since Saturday night, but had spoken on the phone and texted non-stop the past two days, but you didn’t tell him you were coming and bringing coffee. You knocked on the door and opened it and walked in once you heard him say come in.
“Ah my favourite ADA” he looked up and lent back in his chair with a big smile.
“My favourite Detective, to what do I owe the pleasure” he smirked at you.
“Can’t I just stop by and see you Barba?”
“Of course you can, but I see you have coffee, clearly this isn’t a social visit. What’s the warrant for?”
You burst out laughing and walked over to him, and sat the coffee on his desk. He stood up and gave you a hug and light kiss on the lips. Pulling back and looking in your eyes, still keeping hold of your waist your arms on his chest.
“You know, you can stop by here anytime you like” he squeezed your hips.
“De Verdad? (Really)”
“Of course really” he smiled at you.
“Break it up you two, is the warrant ready yet Counselor ” Rafael pulled away from you and turned bright red clearing his throat.
“She knows Rafael. Don’t worry about it” you grabbed his hand.
“Yeah Barba, it’s all good. I’ll keep it too myself if you make sure you look after her” Amanda smirked at him.
You guys filled him in with what the warrant was for, and explained to him all the evidence you guys had.
“Give me an hour. Wait here.” He kissed you on the forehead and walked out of the room.
“You’re a bit cute together” Amanda nudged you with her elbow.
“And your embarrassing” you laughed back at her.
The case was a tricky one. It wasn’t the victim’s stoker, it was a retired arresting police officer that the girl had been close with and arrested the stoker a while ago, who was obsessed with her. The police officer set him up so that he would get the blame and no one would ever suspect it was him of the attack. All you guys worked it out pretty quickly. Rafael took it to trial for it to lead to guilty and he requested the maximum. The trial ended on the Thursday and you hadn’t had a chance to see Rafael on Friday. You had just walked into you apartment after work when your phone started to buzz, It was him,
“Hey Rafael, como estas (how are you)?”
“Mejor ahora te estoy hablando (Better now I’m talking to you)”
“Eso es Bueno escuchar (that’s good to hear)” he started to laugh.
“What are you doing Querida?” (darling)
“I just got home, you?”
“Me too. So tomorrow, where is it?”
“I can text you the address or you come to mine first and we leave from here. Lo que quieras (whatever you like). It’s a smart casual event. Blake did talk about going out after if you’re up for it? So you’re more than welcome to spend the night here” As soon as the words came out of your mouth your stomach filled with butterflies.
“I would love too” you smiled to yourself “What time would you like me to be at your place?”
“You can come anytime, I’ll be home all day tomorrow. Or-you could come now and spend the weekend”
“Have you had dinner yet?”
“No, I just got home remember” he laughed again
“Give me an hour. See you soon” and he hung up
You put down your phone and ran to the bathroom to shower and shaved and put on a pair of cotton shorts and one you old academy t shirts. True to his word an hour later there was a knock at door. You looked at the peep hole and there was Rafael holding an overnight bag and very full plastic bag. You sung the door open and stood out of the way to let him in.
“I picked up Chinese” he said over his shoulder as he made his way into your apartment and sat it on the bench top.
He placed his overnight bag near a wall out of the way and took in everything around him. It was just like every other small New York apartment, but to him it wasn’t like every other, it was yours and he loved it. It was a one bedroom apartment. The Kitchen, dining and lounge were open plan, a small bathroom, but a surprisingly large bedroom. An old not working, in wall fire place had your TV resting above it, you had one medium size wood book shelf, half filled with books and the other half filled with DVD’S, a smaller L shape couch with small tables at either end.
Next to the book shelf was two huge framed photo. Both family photos. One was an old one, you looked about 8 standing in the middle of all these boys, all arms around each other, with older people standing behind you all. The one under it looked more recent, a enactment of the above photo. Under them was a small wooden table with 3 more framed photos. Two of them had a pair of older people in each, your grandparents with a small angel in front of them both. The 3rd photo was of you and Blake, you were both smiling wide, as he held you up off the ground with your legs bend up your arms wrapped around his neck in your police uniform.
“I know it’s not much, but its home” you grinned.
“No I love it” he turned and looked at you with a smile.
You guys had dinner and talked some more.
“I see you have the original Wind in the Willows series, both English and Spanish” a wide smile came to your face.
“They were my favourite books growing up. I got the English ones for my 10th Birthday and spent that summer reading them over and over again. My Tia and Uncle went to Mexico that year for a wedding and came across the Spanish ones in a book store, so they got them for me. I used to sit in Tia’s kitchen after school and homework and read them to her while she cooked. I read her all the ones in English, and then done the same in Spanish”
How did he get so lucky? After Rafael got off the phone from you, he was over the moon. You had asked him to stay the weekend and you were taking him to something with your family. He hadn’t felt like this for such a long time. You were such a beautiful person. He had broken through the charade you showed everyone. He loved when you talked Spanish, it done something to him. You sounded sexy. The night at the roof top bar you weren’t ashamed of him. You told your cousin straight away that you were on a date and did not hesitate introducing him. He could see a future, for the first time in a long time, a future with you.
--
“Raf, stop.”  You were both on your bed. The kissing that started in your kitchen that led you both to here, him on top of you, running his hand into your cotton shorts. He pulled up off you with a worried look on his face. You had tears running down your face sobbing.
“Hey, hey it’s ok Hermosa, please don’t cry” he pulled you into him resting his head on top on yours. After a little bit you claimed down enough to talk.
“I’ am so sorry, I ‘am so embarrassed”
“Why are you embarrassed? Don’t be” he lent in and kissed you on the lips
“It’s just-it’s been so long.I’ am scared Raf. I like you so much, I don’t want to get my heart broken” you paused and took a deep breath. “If something was to happen between us, I don’t think I could ever get over it, if I take that step with you- I don’t want to get attached, no quiero salir lastimado (I do not want to get hurt)” tears started to fall from your eyes. He cupped your face and lifted it slightly so you looked into his eyes.
“For the first time in a long time I can see a future, a future with you, and with you only. I like everything about you, I want you to get attached to me. I can’t promise we won’t fight, but I can promise you, I will never leave you for anyone. I can wait as long as I need till you’re ready, I’ am not going anywhere. It’s been a long time for me as well. But we have nothing but time now we have found each other” you looked up into his eyes and for the first time in a long time you felt wanted.
“Smart mouth and all?”
Rafael lent in and kissed you softly.
“Smart mouth and all”

Kris Wu was cheated, and so were all his fans! How about this?
There has been a recent trend on the internet to call out and denigrate one of China's biggest artists, Kris Wu. Fans turned against him after reports of alleged crimes against several women, including molestation and rape, leaked online. Read more about it here!
Recently, we were able to read online a statement released by the former EXO member, in which he reveals that he only met the girl once, who accuses him of such a shameful act. He later broke off contact with her, but that was not enough. After Wu stopped replying to Du’s WeChat messages in April, posts on a Weibo account in Du’s name were published “in order to increase her online fame”, according to the police. It has now been revealed that more than 10 of those Weibo posts were not penned by Du but by people writing on her behalf.
A suspect surnamed Liu was arrested in Jiangsu province in Nantong for trying to swindle 8 million yuan from Wu by assuming various fake online identities, including that of Du. A con artist reportedly found an opportunity to defraud Chinese Canadian singer Kris Wu while details of his sex scandal made the headlines in China, Beijing police revealed on Thursday - June 22th.
The fraudster not only tried to reach the artist himself, but also contacted his mother about the money. Pretending to be several different victim girls, he tried to extort money from a distraught mother who was worried about her son's fate. In the end, he also appeared in the guise of the lawyer Kris Wu, who was supposed to represent him in the case.
Police are still investigating allegations that Wu "repeatedly lured young women into sexual relations" but the whole case is getting more confusing and twisted. Kris Wu has lost all his sponsors, stopped being an ambassador for brands such as Kiehl's and snack brand Bestore, and Louis Vuitton has terminated the star's contract. As I mentioned above, the police are still investigating the surroundings and the case of the injured women, so we cannot say whether Kris Wu is guilty or not.
EVERYONE IS INNOCENT UNTIL A JUST SENTENCE IS PASSED. The presumption of innocence is a legal principle that every person accused of any crime is considered innocent until proven guilty.
However, I would like to draw attention to the fact that no one is anonymous on the Internet, and everything can be checked. So pay attention to what you add and write to others. In connection with my previous post, I received several unpleasant messages, despite the fact that I do not take sides at all. But I will try to touch on the subject of fans hating other fans at another time. Remember also to read everything with understanding and not to ascribe a meaning to someone else's words just because you want it to appear that your opinion is the true one.

Notes on Robert McKee’s Story 33: The Principle of Antagonism
Tumblr media
I had the hardest time trying to condense this section, so unfortunately this post will be almost entirely direct quotes from the text.
"The principle of antagonism: A protagonist and his story can only be as intellectually fascinating and emotionally compelling as the forces of antagonism make them."
McKee believes that the principle of antagonism is the most important and least understood precept in story design, and this is the primary reason screenplays and the films made from them fail.
"Human nature is fundamentally conservative. We never do more than we have to, expend any energy we don’t have to, take any risks we don’t have to, change if we don’t have to. Why should we? Why do anything the hard way if we can get what we want the easy way? (The “easy way” is, of course, idiosyncratic and subjective.) Therefore, what will cause a protagonist to become a fully realized, multidimensional, and deeply empathetic character? What will bring a dead screenplay to life? The answer to both questions lies on the negative side of the story.
The more powerful and complex the forces of antagonism opposing the character, the more completely realized character and story must become. “Forces of antagonism” doesn’t necessarily refer to a specific antagonist or villain. In appropriate genres arch-villains, like the Terminator, are a delight, but by “forces of antagonism,” we mean the sum total of all forces that oppose the character’s will and desire.
If we study a protagonist at the moment of the Inciting Incident and weigh the sum of his willpower along with his intellectual, emotional, social, and physical capacities against the total forces of antagonism from within his humanity, plus his personal conflicts, antagonistic institutions, and environment, we should see clearly that he’s an underdog. He has a chance to achieve what he wants—but only a chance. Although conflict from one aspect of his life may seem solvable, the totality of all levels should seem overwhelming as he begins his quest.
We pour energy into the negative side of a story not only to bring the protagonist and other characters to full realization—roles to challenge and attract the world’s finest actors—but to take the story itself to the end of the line, to a brilliant and satisfying climax."
To make your protagonist stand out even more, he needs to have a good antagonist that not only pushes him to the very brink of his ability and willpower, but also acts as a fine foil.
Take Story and Character to the End of the Line
“Does your story contain negative forces of such power that the positive side must gain surpassing quality? Below is a technique to guide your self-critique and answer that critical question.
Begin by identifying the primary value at stake in your story. For example, Justice. Generally, the protagonist will represent the positive charge of this value; the forces of antagonism, the negative. Life, however, is subtle and complex, rarely a case of yes/no, good/evil, right/wrong. There are degrees of negativity.
First, the Contradictory value, the direct opposite of the positive. In this case, Injustice. Laws have been broken.
Between the Positive value and its Contradictor, however, is the Contrary: a situation that’s somewhat negative but not fully the opposite. The Contrary of justice is unfairness, a situation that’s negative but not necessarily illegal: nepotism, racism, bureaucratic delay, bias, inequities of all kinds.
Perpetrators of unfairness may not break the law, but they’re neither just nor fair.
The Contradictory, however, is not the limit of human experience. At the end of the line waits the Negation of Negation, a force of antagonism that’s doubly negative.
Our subject is life, not arithmetic. In life two negatives don’t make a positive. In English double negatives are ungrammatical, but Italian uses double and even triple negatives so that a statement feels like its meaning. In anguish an Italian might say, “Non ho niente mia!” (I don’t have nothing never!). Italians know life. Double negatives turn positive only in math and formal logic. In life things just get worse and worse and worse.
A story that progresses to the limit of human experience in depth and breadth of conflict must move through a pattern that includes the Contrary, the Contradictory, and the Negation of Negation.
(The positive mirror image of this negative declension runs from Good to Better to Best to Perfect. But for mysterious reasons, working with this progression is of no help to the storyteller.)
Negation of the Negation means a compound negative in which a life situation turns not just quantitatively but qualitatively worse. The Negation of the Negation is at the limit of the dark powers of human nature. In terms of justice, this state is tyranny. Or, in a phrase that applies to personal as well as social politics: “Might Makes Right.”
Consider TV detective series: Do they go to the limit? The protagonists of Spenser: For Hire, Quincy, Colombo, and Murder, She Wrote represent justice and struggle to preserve this ideal. First, they face unfairness: Bureaucrats won’t let Quincy do the autopsy, a politician pulls strings to get Columbo off the case, Spenser’s client lies to him. After struggling through gaps of expectation powered by forces of unfairness, the cop discovers true injustice: A crime has been committed. He defeats these forces and restores society to justice. The forces of antagonism in most crime dramas rarely reach beyond the Contradictory.
Compare this pattern to MISSING, a fact-based film about American Ed Horman (Jack Lemmon), who searched Chile for a son who disappeared during a coup d’etat. In Act One he meets unfairness: The U.S. ambassador (Richard Venture) feeds him half-truths, hoping to dissuade his search. But Horman preserves. At the Act Two Climax he uncovers a grievous injustice: The junta murdered his son… with the complicity of the U.S. State Department and the CIA. Horman then tries to right this wrong, but in Act Three he reaches the end of the line—persecution without hope of retribution.
Chile is in the grip of tyranny. The generals can make illegal on Tuesday what you did legally on Monday, arrest you for it on Wednesday, execute you on Thursday, and make it legal again Friday morning. Justice does not exist; the tyrant makes it up at his whim. MISSING is a searching revelation of the final limits of injustice… with irony: Although Horman couldn’t indict the tyrants in Chile, he exposed them on screen in front of the world—which may be a sweeter kind of justice.
The principle of the Negation of the Negation applies not only to the tragic but to the comic. The comic world is a chaotic, wild place where actions must go to the limit. If not, the laugh falls flat. Even the light entertainment of Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers films touched the end of the line. They turned on the value of truth as Fred Astaire traditionally played a character suffering form self-deception, telling himself he was in love with the glitzy girl when we knew that his heart really belong to Ginger.”
In Summary
“Fine writers have always understood that opposite values are not the limit of human experience. If a story stops at the Contradictory value, or worse, the Contrary, it echoes the hundreds of mediocrities we suffer every year. For a story that is simply above love/hate, truth/lie, freedom/slavery, courage/cowardice, and the like is almost certain to be trivial. If a story does not reach the Negation of the Negation, it may strike the audience as satisfying--but never brilliant, never sublime.
All other factors of talent, craft, and knowledge being equal, greatness is found in the writer's treatment of the negative side.
If your story seems unsatisfying and lacking in some way, tools are needed to penetrate its confusions and perceive its flaws. When a story is weak, the inevitable cause is that its forces of antagonism are weak. Rather than spending your creativity trying to invent likable, attractive aspects of protagonist and world, build the negative side to create a chain reaction that pays off naturally and honestly on the positive dimensions.
The first step is to question the values at stake and their progression. What are the positive values? What is the preeminent and turns the Story Climax? Do the forces of antagonism explore all shades of negativity? Do they reach the power of the Negation of the Negation at some point?
Generally, progressions run from the Positive to the Contrary in Act One, to the Contradictory in later acts, and finally to the Negation of the Negation in the last act, either ending tragically or going back to the Positive with a profound difference. BIG, on the other hand, leaps to the Negation of the Negation, then illuminates all degrees of immaturity. CASABLANCA is even more radical. It opens at the Negation of the Negation with Rick living in fascist tyranny, suffering self-hatred and self-deception, then works to a positive climax for all three values. Anything is possible, but the end of the line must be reached.”
McKee also breaks down what the positive, negative, contrary, and negation of negation are for many more common values such as love, loyalty, greed, courage, intelligence, etc. But that would make this post entirely too long. I definitely invite you to get this book and check them out yourself.
I found this section incredibly helpful to me. Until now I've always thought of conflict in terms of "good vs. bad" and...not much more than that. I had never contemplated the Contrary, let alone the Negation of the Negation. If I can manage to pull off a conflict of that level, I think I might have a really good story on my hands! This has helped me to shape my antagonistic forces and plot. I hope it helps you too!

So here are my endless thoughts on SVU & OC, all under the cut bc I get rambly and incoherent lmaooooo so here goes the format is shit bc I’m on mobile but are we surprised lmao
SVU
It is a crime that we never got to see the dress Liv was wearing to her ceremony A CRIME I know it was a lewk I KNOW IT WAS
The Liv/Elliot stare down dkdkdkkdkddk pls they’re just looking at each other like they’re trying to make sure they’re both really there
The flashback to the episode where pregnant Kathy is in a car accident with Liv was a crime against me, specifically, bc how dare you make me deal with those emotions while Liv is also dealing with them with that 100 yard stare WHY
Fin’s “you’re gonna have to ask him” to Liv in the hospital 🤝 his “you’ll have to ask her that” to Elliot in the bar or whatever
The whispered convo in the corner of Liv’s office hello intimacy lmao personal space whomst Liv and Elliot don’t know her and they never have AND THEN when Elliot says “let’s work it” like they’re still partners, LIKE THEY’RE PARTNERS FOR LIFE, IF YOU WILL
Liv spent so much of their partnership pushing him to be with his family and she STILL has to do it even ten years later after he’s broken her heart she loves him so much she loves his kids she wants nothing but the best for him so she keeps pushing him to go back to his family, to visit Kathy in the hospital, but noooooooooooo hardheaded Elliot Stabler just can’t do it
“I give you my word I’ll behave” so u just gon lie like that to her FACE when you haven’t seen her IN TEN YEARS DKSKDKSKSKSKSK LYING IS GONNA BE ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS YOU DO and also when he started rolling up his sleeves??? BRAIN ROT IMMEDIATELY BRAIN EMPTY
LIV HOLDING ELLIOT BACK, HIM ALL IN HER PERSONAL SPACE, THE RAISED VOICE FOLLOWED BY THE WHISPER, THE LINGERING EYE CONTACT DKDKDKDKDKDK IF Y’ALL DON’T FUCKIN SMOOCH IN THIS BITCH
Actually okay the whole interrogation room scene bc seeing them in interrogation with each other is painful enough, but the looks Liv keeps giving him while he’s talking to the suspect dkdkkddkdkdk the last time she was in an interrogation room when she could still feel Elliot’s presence around her was when she was crying after he put in his papers YES I AM CRYING THANK U and then the suspect says “why aren’t you in the hospital with your wife” and it’s practically the same thing Liv told him but he can hear that kind of stuff from her and be okay but when anyone else is questioning his loyalty to his family it sets him off (not that she was questioning his loyalty but you get what I’m saying) and UGH the way Liv keeps an eye on him as he moves around the room to make sure he doesn’t fuckin lose it
She bumped into him on the roof ON PURPOSE she didn’t have to be that close to him there’s plenty of room on the roof for the two of them but it’s like she’s questioning if he’s really there and then you have to wonder how many conversations has she had with him mentally or in her dreams that she has to fuckin shoulder check him on the roof to ensure he’s really there, that she’s really talking to HIM
Elliot’s Catholic guilt rearing its ugly head as he caresses the head of his dying wife while he has so much he wants and needs to say to Liv.......am I overthinking this I thinketh not
KATHY NOT BELIEVING ELLIOT TELLING HER HE HASN’T SPOKEN TO LIV IN TEN YEARS AND LIV HAVING TO CONFIRM THAT IT’S TRUE I’M DKSKSKSKSKSKSKSKSKDKS LIV WAS THE GLUE HOLDING THAT GODDAMN FAMILY TOGETHER AND SHE COULDN’T EVEN RECEIVE THE LOVE SHE SO DESPERATELY WANTED???? NEEDED??????? FROM ELLIOT BC OF IT I’M DJDJDJSSKSKSKSK
Liv watching Elliot kiss Kathy’s forehead through the glass door of that hospital room, like she’s been forced to look in on that marriage from the outside for YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The symbolism!!!!!!!!!!!
The waiting room hospital scene yes this will be burned into my brain forever thank u. Neither of them can sit still when they’re around each other now it’s like it’s too much all at once especially Liv she keeps moving and fidgeting and when they ARE still they’re so CLOSE to each other like they can’t bear for there to be any distance, not anymore, not now
They tell each other they love each other without saying the words and it kills me every single time I can’t live like this I wish they were better at talking about their feelings
ANOTHER WHISPERED/BREATHY “ELLIOT” with that side eye YES LIV LET HIM KNOW HE FUCKED UP dkskdkdkdkdk and then she told him she LOVED HIM “you were the single most important person in my life and you just.....disappeared” god this really tears my heart out every time I think about it bc the look in her eyes just 😭😭😭
“I was afraid if I heard your voice I wouldn’t have been able to leave” GOD DID Y’ALL KNOW IT ONLY TAKES THREE WORDS EACH TO SAY I LOVE YOU DID YOU KNOW THAT DID YOU KNOW YOU COULD CONSERVE OXYGEN AND SAY ONLY THREE WORDS OBVIOUSLY NOT
Liv having to stand up for Elliot once again and defend him to people who don’t see him the way she does, the way he deserves to be seen, she’s had to do it for years when they were partners and now she’s doing it again when he’s only been back like a day and a half
I’ve already talked about the bar scene with Elliot and Fin a bajillion times but!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s just such a good fuckin scene and the emotions and the mannerisms from Elliot are just *chef’s kiss* that man loves Liv so much and he’s so upset he’s missed so much of Liv’s life ugh just thinking about his “who’s the guy?” and how he must be thinking back to “you’re the longest relationship I’ve ever had with a man” and how that may still be true but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t moved on and found someone else to take his place in her heart, in her life, to give her the child she always wanted WHEW
LIV DKDKDKDKDK “Phoebe just said I love you and you couldn’t say it back?” MA’AM YOU CAN’T EVEN TELL THE MAN YOU LOVE THAT YOU LOVE HIM PLS STOP JUDGING FIN DKDKDKDKDDKDK
Liv calling Elliot “Stabler” why does that shit hurt my heart so bad dkdkdkdkdkdks CALL HIM EL AGAIN PLS
Amanda likening her relationship with Liv to Liv’s relationship with Kathy? No ma’am. No. Somebody get the spray bottle tell her to shut the fuck up
Elliot called Liv before he called any of his kids about Kathy HE CALLED HER FIRST no I’m fine this is fine that’s just something you’d do like if you loved someone or something lmao def nothing suspicious here
I will never stop talking about that hug okay bc Elliot IS SOBBING and he nuzzles into Liv’s shoulder and she wants to keep her walls up and remain distant but her eyes close and she settles into it too god it’s such a GOOD hug you can FEEL the emotions
“I didn’t get to say goodbye” hello parallels between Elliot and his wife and Liv, the love of his life again this is fine I’m fine
Liv putting his family first and offering to call his kids for him fkdkdkdkdkks god will she ever put herself first with ANYONE or will she always put herself on the back burner can we PLEASE GET LIV SOME LASTING HAPPINESS IN THIS BITCH
Even tho Elliot said he didn’t need her to call his kids it absolutely looks like she DID get his kids and take them to him in the chapel like that’s how it comes across and idk if they did that on purpose or what but that’s what it looks like idk man it just really kills me bc she just keeps putting his family first and keep them together SHE IS THE GLUEEEEEEEEEE IN THAT FAMILY
“I can be objective” not with Elliot miss ma’am and you know that like it’s cute that you think that but 👀👀👀 we all know JUST LIKE WE ALL KNOW that technically you’re off the case but you won’t be off the case you’ll keep looking into things when you can bc that’s your partner, your Elliot, and you can’t not keep looking into it
OC
When Elliot goes downstairs at the courthouse and he starts speaking Italian to those dudes he arrested or whatever and then he starts threatening them and he does the throat slash motion as he gets taken away dkskskskskks BRAIN WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is that so HOT!!!!!!! @ myself get it together
I’ve already talked about the snow scene in the park but I am not done I will never be done bc the tension!!!!!!!!!!!! Liv won’t hold eye contact for too long and neither will he and I am DYING the small talk is so awkward and then he says “you woulda loved it” about his place in Rome meaning he was THINKING ABOUT HER WHILE HE WAS AWAY
“Elliot, I can’t” OH MY GOD DKDKDKDK and the way she looks at the letter in his hands dkdkdksksks awh hell
Liv was wearing gloves and Elliot was bare handed as they walked around the city in SVU, when she was showing him the pic of the suspect on her phone and here she is again, wearing gloves while Elliot’s hands are bare but this time she brushes her fingers over his ever so slightly while taking the letter from him. The touch is on purpose, has to be, but it’s like the rooftop scene where she bumps into him to make sure it’s really him. Not to mention the gloves vs bare hands thing - she’s erected walls up around her heart and her life and she has all these boundaries she won’t let Elliot cross, not now, maybe not ever she tells herself, and as long as she can separate even the smallest amount of her bare flesh from his she just might be able to make it through him being back in town
ELLIOT WANTED HER TO INTRODUCE HIM TO NOAH YOU CAN SEE IT god he must’ve been so torn up about it bc that’s her kid!!!!!! He’s a part of her!!!!!!!!! He wants to know everything he missed and she won’t even introduce him to her child!!!!!!!!
Angela Wheatley I’m free on Thursday if you’d like to hang out on Thursday when I am free
Liv doesn’t take her eyes off Elliot at the funeral not once NOT ONCE I know I’ve said this before but she’s really the glue that holds that goddamn family together and I am DYING
She holds it together for all the kids and Elliot but the second she walks away her face just fuckin CRUMPLES she can’t hold it together anymore especially after the way Elliot grabbed her whole ass arm to thank her for going I’m dkdkskdkdkdkd this is too much this is too much
THEY DELETED THE FUCKIN SCENE WITH THE WHOLE FAMILY IN ELLIOT’S APARTMENT??????? WHY???????? I WANTED TO OVERANALYZE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay so I know Richard Wheatley is the bad guy but I luv him what a MAN. He really said “fuck you you racist piece of shit” and killed his own dad fkdkdkdkdkdksk okay WORK RICHARD
SERGEANT BELL I AM AVAILABLE ON THURSDAY LEMME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HANG OUT ON THURSDAY WHEN YOU ARE FREE
Bell not taking any sorta shit from Elliot I LUV IT I LUV HER GET HIS ASS DKDKDKDKSKSKS he NEEDS people to keep his ass in line bc he doesn’t know how to act not even a lil bit
LIV READ THE LETTER!!!!!! She’s the least stand-offish she’s been to him this whole time WHAT WAS IN THAT LETTER I HAVE TO KNOW
* She knows him too well she knows he’s hiding something from her she knows he’s got something going on but he’s never been good at separating his work from his real life and that hasn’t changed, not now, not even with her and she KNOWS something’s off the way she looks at him while he’s waiting for the elevator is unreal and the lil half nod he gives her bc he KNOWS he needs to talk to her about that letter, especially when she’s WILLING TO TALK NOW but the job!!!!!! “You and the job are about the only thing I’ve got anymore” and he doesn’t even have her, not like he used to, not like he wants to, so he defaults to the job and trying to figure out who killed Kathy and who has it out for him
Okay I obvs didn’t have as much to yell about in OC as I did SVU but I’m so excited to see how OC goes bc it’s got me intrigued already like I need to know. Everything. About the Wheatleys!!!! EVERYTHING!!!!!!! And I need to see Liv and Elliot interact again pls pls I need it 😭😭😭😭😭 ANYWAYS THE END BYE
