Hazy mid-summer day on the Sods, Part 2.
The planet's fantastic life energy reaches its peak in mid to late summer as the sun's precious light shrinks by the day and every living thing senses its time is running out. On the Plains of Dolly Sods, where the growing season is already compressed by the high elevation, plants compete for the swirling, buzzing masses of insects with their gaudy blooms and produce successive waves of berries to seed new generations. The drone of the insects carrying out their instinctive missions of renewal is constantly in your head as they dive and dart and skirt around you. You barely register as a distraction against the great drama playing out here - one whose stakes are survival, regeneration, salvation. I feel so privileged to have connected with this life force in the most intimate way, even for the few short years of my mayfly existence. I will die a happy man for having immersed myself in its lovely, purposeful chaos and becoming part of something much greater than myself.

Arabesque Orbweaver
This is the time when orb weavers are at their peak. The distinctively-marked Arabesque Orbweaver is one of the many different species to be observed.

Spidersona bandwagon here I come! Say hi to weaver!
“My name is Jade Jackson, I was bitten by a weird ass spider, and for the past few years, I’ve been the one and only Milwaukee Weaver. Not that I really wanted to though…But if I don’t take care of things, who else will?”
-based on arabesque and lattice orb weavers, very timid and non confrontational by nature. Introvert
-afraid of spiders
-was bitten by a mutated spider infected with toxic water from the Milwaukee river lol
-organic webs that are crazy strong, and when made into fabric its nearly indestructible
-very acute spider sense, mainly to avoid conflict
-keeps spare spools of web in case her organic webs run out during a fight
-mildly venomous
-makes her silk into fabric and paper and sells it lol
-owns a little textile and stationery store
-more like a local Cryptid than a superhero: fights crime, but nobody gets a proper look at her.
-her suit is also made out of her silk, so it’s very hard to damage despite its delicate appearance
-recruited into the spider society specifically so they can study her webs and utilize a synthetic copy for the other spiders
-had to be chased down because her senses clocked Miguel as a “predator” lol

When the sun sets the Arabesque Orbweaver spider comes out and build their ridiculously large webs. This big momma in particular dwarfs all other orbweavers in size, scaling over 1in
Everynight she makes her web using the whole entry way of our garage, but before sunrise she packs up her home and waits for the sun to set again.
Orb weavers are very considerate.

I managed to catch her cleaning herself one night.

Neoscona arabesca is a common orb-weaver spider found throughout the United States and Canada. Often called the "arabesque orbweaver," after the cryptic, brightly-colored, swirling markings on its prominent abdomen, this spider can be found in fields, forests, gardens, and on human structures. Neoscona species are among the most common and abundant orb weavers and are found on all continents. Females range in size from 5–7 mm (0.20–0.28 in) and males 5–6 mm (0.20–0.24 in).
