I love how all of the companions' stories revolve around autonomy and I love how some of the romances show the whole "I love you for who you are"
Don't love how so many people are misinterpreting them though

In other news ive finally started playing baldurs gate 3 and despite being a glorified hater about it when it got mega-hyped i am enjoying myself a lot actually. They weren’t kidding about the level of detail in this game we love to see media living up to the hype.
#I still find all of the character designs very underwhelming but thats ok. I can fix them (her (karlach))#the pacing feels a little funny by virtue of being an open world game where you Are going to meet these side characters ok.#like every long rest so far ive been shocked that my party members are acting as close with me as they are#but its still fun! The interactions are really charming to be honest.#i was like. Number 1 astarion denier but unfortunately he is quite silly with it. If a bit much.#Idk i just think its fun and also really fun to dissect the bits and pieces that dont work out.#and i love me some dissection so i consider this a bonus.#anyways.#text posts :0]

One fun thing about bg3 vs dragon age games is that in dragon age, I can't think of a single character I didn't like off the bat, or at least wasn't vaguely interested in. Like yeah some of them are jerks, ogrens a little annoying sometimes, they all do bad things, but they're all easy to get attached to, then it's later on that some make decisions that hurt or disappoint you. But with balder's gate? I genuinely disliked several party members immediately. They were uninteresting, mean, annoying. But you keep playing, and you learn about them, and suddenly you realize they've grown on you like fungus and they have very deep and cool lore and thought and emotion and you get to slowly see them open up!! Both are so much fun!!!
Then again I've barely started my bg3 playthrough so who's to say ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just finished my first playthrough of BG3. Romanced Lae'zel, but ending up turning into an Illithid because the idea of making Orpheus or Karlach do it didn't sit well with me (or my character).
I told Lae'zel to leave with Orpheus in the end (I heard she wouldn't stay with a ghaik anyway, which she's valid for, but also, it doesn't feel right to ask her to stay when I know how much her people mean to her). And like-

i know i kinda have a reputation to uphold as an astarionposter but like. he's not even my fav character in bg3...
#my ranking of the companions would be:#1. shadowheart 2. jaheira 3. lae'zel 4. astarion 5. wyll 6. halsin 7. karlach 8. gale and then minsc/minthara bc i haven't recruited either#idk i just really love how jaheira was portrayed in bg3 and i feel like she doesn't get enough love#+ lae'zel's story arc may not be as compelling to me personally as astarion's but. gith lore is like my absolute fav thing and i love her s#and i've already talked loads about how shadowheart is my no. 1#re: wyll i actually really like him and he would've been ranked higher if i hadn't played early access. i miss his more playful side tbh#halsin ranks higher than karlach or gale because of how much his being canon polyam means to me. also he's funny as hell#karlach and gale's stories just didn't resonate as hard with me ig?? i love them all they're just not my favs#there's literally no companion i actively dislike which is v strange bc in most games i usually HATE at least one.#in dao i HATED sten. in da2 it was seb. in dai it was cassandra. in poe2 it was pallegina. in nwn2 it was bishop. in wotr it was daeran#anyway i could go on and on about how larian made fundamentally flawed but still likable characters. i just love them sm.#edit: even though gameplay-wise wotr is one of my top games ever. i actively hated like half of the companions lmao#lmk if you want me to make a post about who i like and why in pfwotr bc i am Very Opinionated

Bg3 was such a fantastic game, and at first I didn't even want to buy it?? Anyways I'll definitely go for a second playthrough!!
#bg3#bg3 SPOILERS#I messed up some things#for example karlach just died in the end???#and I couldn't go with her because HELLO MY MAN WAS WAITING#also I didn't let astarion ascent#so I was a it scared at the end#because I was like THE SUNNNNN#and then his skin started burning AND I WAS SO AFRAID THAT HE DIES#but he ran away#I'm so glad they added a scene in the end where I could speak to him still#and ofc I said I would stay with him!!#and maybe find a cure for him to walk in the sun again#anways I loved this game#It was a long time since a game made me play for so many hours#and I was addicted and just couldn't stop playing#my new skyrim lol#anyways I'm in for a dark urge gameplay next :D

#the thing is they are well written within their route but the available routes are... depressing#y is it that only astarion & shadowheart get a satisfying options#such a good narrative and then all the endings u have in store for me are between one unsatisfying ending and another 😭#karlach gets to die or suffer forever! wyll gets to figth and unwinning fight or become what his father wants him to be#gale goes back to mystra or loses his self in a different way#u either become a mind flayer or doom laezel and her ppl forever! yay!#where is the option for wyll where i can tell his dad to go fuck himself but also not send him to fight the most uwinnable fight#idk man like I think together with a less depressing route theses ending swould fuck severly bc would have another choice#but withut any other options they just make me sad#anyway still love this game but this is the one part that has rlly disappointed me ig

I'm a big advocate of just blocking and moving on when seeing bad takes about your interests but that's mostly because I rarely travel outside the small circle of artists and mutuals I follow and ohhhh boy after having seen the worst take about a beloved blorbo I suddenly understand everything, it was like a redditer overtook my body and I almost went into a rage as I resisted the urge to "um actually" and type up an entire essay in ops comment section but I persevered. More dispatches from my Dark Urge, who is trying her best not to disappoint her girlfriend (I have just kicked off Act 3)
My Dark Urge run almost went a different direction because I thought Karlach's romance was bugged ("can't wait to bang you like a gong tonight," she insinuates, and five long rests later my gong remains unbanged), but I finally ran through everything else going on in my camp and was at long last rewarded.
Lisa Frank got that life-changing piping hot Karlussy and she is being SO GOOD now. She was already trending that way, but now there are no more secret midnight murder nibbles. She's gone cold turkey and wow is her butler sore about it
The sheer number of times he tried to talk me into murdering Isobel was kind of hilarious. "You really want to kill her! ...Now she's all alone, so she would be super easy to murder! ...It's not too late to murder Isobel! ...She's right there, PLEASE, just one little murder? For me?" Sorry, bud, Lisa Frank likes Karlach more than viscera.
And I was STRESSED during the segment when the butler shows up and is like, you didn't kill Isobel? Fine. You're gonna sleep-kill Karlach. I burned some inspiration to make sure I woke her up instead of strangling her and the subsequent scene was absolutely wild. If Lisa Frank couldn't scare Karlach off with the murder-madness and the snarling and the biting, I guess these girls really are endgame! Peace and love on Planet Camp.
(I continue to worry constantly about Scratch and the owlbear cub.)
I'm also very sure now that I was right about the Bhaal connection. Act 2 has a lot of good Dark Urge content and tasty, tasty hints, and I am absolutely going to have a big damn confrontation with Orin in Act 3, yeah? I am HYPE. Lisa Frank will rock that jutilated jarapace.
Unrelated to Dark Urging, I didn't fuck up recruiting Jaheira this time, but having her in my party was buggy as shit. First I somehow aggroed the Harpers during the tower fight and had to run deep into the wilds to get away from them. She never got the Flee option, but I guess they gave up chasing her after everyone else fled? I then had to give the Harpers gifts to talk to them again, because they were all at -40. I am 99% certain I didn't friendly-fire them during the fight. (Miette absolutely friendly-fired their asses and no one got mad at her, but who can stay mad at a perpetually affronted kitty?)
But this was merely the baffling beginning. Everything got turbo-weird at the top of the tower.
Jaheira took up a party member slot but was still attached to Lisa Frank like a summon after I invited her to join permanently, and idk if that's normal but it didn't seem normal. If I tried to go to camp before jumping down the big hole, she yelled at me and then vanished forever, and if I got in a fight with the Death Shepard, there was no way to end the combat without the game crashing. I thought I was being so clever using Invisibility to grab shit and scamper away without triggering the fight, but then I discovered killing Ketheric Thorm ALSO reliably crashed the game. I had to roll back to a save at the top of the tower, tell her to join me, and then send her ass to camp alone.
What a journey we went through together, and then didn't go through together after all.
Speaking of buggy shit: I recruited Minthara by seeing what would happen if I knocked her out in Act 1 instead of killing her, and the answer is that it counted for goblin leader removal purposes and that she turned up in Moonrise Tower in her underwear because I fully looted her unconscious body. I think the game doesn't really want you to do this, because she's sharing a tent with Halsin in a way that doesn't look comfortable or intentional. Or maybe they've got a thing going on, I sure won't judge. Anyway, I have been delighted by her takes on the other party members, especially her casual dismissal of Gale, hahaha.
I expect Act 3 to be a roller coaster, but my first order of business is getting into the city proper so I can blow all my money on fancy clothes and dyes. For two acts I have done my best with what I've been handed, but it's about to get FASHIONABLE up in here. Let us bid a fond farewell to Lisa Frank's Disney Princess era:
