🛹 4t2 parenthood skateboard recolors 🛹
as promised (to myself), here are 14 recolors on the “board meeting” mesh from parenthood, converted by earlypleasantview.
there’s a total of 16 skate brands featured, some newer than others, but i made sure to include a few more recognizable brands like element and enjoi. i wish there was a sophisticated catalog of past artwork on decks, and if there were photos, it wasn’t the pristine easy-to-transfer images that are currently on distributors’ websites. so what you see here are the current boards being offered by each respective brand. three of the recolors include more than one brand:  girl/chocolate, dgk/keystreet, and deathwish/doomsayers/antihero. i could go on forever about this project it has been my favorite to work on by far! i can definitely see myself making more recolors like this in the future. :]
the mesh is included, but be sure to grab EA’s recolors here.
files are compressed. swatches included in the zip.
download: [sfs] | [box] ♡
credits: @earlypleasantview, my bf♡ for the help + suggestions, skate brands: baker, birdhouse, element, enjoi, dgk, key street, deathwish, doomsayers, antihero, girl, chocolate, hookups, krooked, real, santa cruz, + tactics.

Being Human - Chapter 2
A werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost live in the same home together, going about their lives and cherishing the little spooky safe haven they have created for themselves. Until they get a new roommate who knows nothing of the monster world or what he's gotten himself into. Read the whole thing on ao3 here.
Roman would be the first to admit that his current situation was a little...strange. He had somehow ended up living with a married couple, but mostly...he found he didn’t mind it. The Doc was a little intimidating, but he seemed to always be at work so Roman rarely saw him. Patton was around much more often, but Patton was an absolute delight. Hell, Patton packed him lunches with good luck notes for audtion days. Roman was absolutely feeling spoiled, even if he assured the other that he didn’t have to do such things. It was an odd thing to think about his new roommates, but he felt like he had found a place he could feel welcomed in for more than just what he was, but rather for who he was.
His move-in day had gone great, but the second day Logan had given him the list of rules. Like...a physical list so he wouldn’t forget. The basement is locked because there’s nothing down there he needs to see. The shed is off limits because apparently Logan keeps some sorta hobby shit in there that’s super valuable. He was also warned about all the weird noises the house could make on account of its age. Roman found out very quickly that the house did make a lot of spooky noises, almost like it was haunted. Which was ridiculous because he knew ghosts weren’t real so that should be a calming thought. Right? It mostly reminded him of all the weird noses that would ring out back home, usually caused by his brother’s antics. Though, thinking of home was something Roman tried not to do too often.
He had his new home now! Someplace he was okay with coming back to after a long shift at the diner, Thai takeout in hand since Patton had said he wouldn’t be home to make dinner tonight. Apparently it was date night for him and Logan. Roman was more than okay with alone time. He had evening plans to watch a few Disney movies, loudly sing along to every song, and maybe search for a few auditions somewhere in between. He was humming to himself, digging his key out of his jacket pocket and turning it in the lock, flipping on a few lights once inside. The sound of the TV could be heard from the living room...Patton must have forgotten to turn it off before he left. Roman of course recognized the sounds of the Nightmare Before Christmas, it was a classic. Guess he was starting his marathon there.
He had planned to change into some pajamas before settling for the night but the sound of Jack Skellington singing about Christmas was far too tempting to ignore, so he took his takeout to the living room, pausing in shock at what he saw. There was someone sitting on the couch. Someone he had never seen before. The guy couldn’t have been much younger than Roman himself, but he paid the other no attention, eyes focused on the screen as he mouthed the lyrics to himself. He was pale as a ghost with heavy dark shadows under his eyes and stringy bangs that hung down in his face. Eventually he did spare Roman a glance, a confused look crossing his face when he realized Roman was staring right at him.
“Can you-” the guy started, backing into the couch for a second. Roman could have sworn he went through the cushions.
Roman didn’t get a chance to hear the rest of what the guy was gonna say because he dropped his takeout on the floor and went right back out the front door, dialing Patton’s number on his phone. Patton didn’t pick up the first three calls so he tried Logan, knowing the more serious man was always checking his phone in case the hospital called. Logan picked up on the second ring.
“Roman? Do you need something?” he asked, the sounds of a restaurant humming in the background.
“A guy- on the couch-,” Roman started, glancing back at the door in case this intruder decided to follow him and off him. Not that he couldn’t take the skinny guy in a fight, but who knew what dangers the other guy held.
“There was a guy on our couch?” Logan asked, his tone ever so slightly confused. Patton could be heard in the background saying hi.
“I came home from work and this really pale guy was just sitting on the couch watching the TV and then he looked at me all weird and I left.”
“Pale...oh my,” Logan said. “Hold on, Roman. I’m going to call you back in a few minutes, I’m being asked to stop using my phone in the restaurant. You aren’t in any danger, I assure you.”
Roman wasn’t too convinced, but before he could protest Logan had hung up. He glanced back at the front door with a frown before moving to the backyard, sitting on the bench by Patton’s garden. A few minutes later his phone rang again and he saw Logan’s contact name on the screen.
“So? You know the guy?” he asked.
“Yes. That’s Virgil. He’s another roommate, but he’s been away for a long time and hadn’t said when he was coming back. I suppose he wanted to surprise us. I’m terribly sorry for any confusion,” Logan replied. “Patton and I will be on our way home as soon as I pay the check.”
“Right, okay,” Roman said. “Should I go back inside?”
“There’s no reason for you not to. We’ll see you soon.”
With that Logan hung up again and Roman frowned into the lettuce bed before getting up off the bench. Well, so much for his nice happy evening alone. He made his way back inside, the other guy - Virgil - was no longer on the couch. His takeout was still on the floor so he picked that up and went to the kitchen to see if anything could be salvaged. He was untying the bag on the counter when he saw the reflection of another person behind him in the window.
“Holy- you’re quite silent, aren’t you?” Roman gasped, turning around to face the other.
“Yeah...I guess you could say that,” Virgil replied, looking at him like he was some sort of anomaly.
“Well I do apologize for our first meeting being..that. I’m Roman.”
“Yeah, I know,” Virgil said, pausing. “I mean, uh...Pat’s told me about you. He said you’re loud.”
“He did…?” Roman asked, having heard no such complaint from Patton himself. “Him and Logan will be home soon.”
“Good. I’m going to my room,” Virgil said, turning around to leave.
“And where is that?”
“The attic.”
Ah, yes. The attic. Another one of the places on the list that Roman wasn’t supposed to snoop around. He saw Virgil walk towards the hall where the door covering the staircase to the attic was but he didn’t hear the door open. Odd. Regardless of the weird feeling the other roommate gave him, his stomach growling was far more prominent, and he was happy to see none of his food spilled when he had dropped it. Roman took a seat at the breakfast table, happy to hear the door open and see Patton and Logan walk in.
“Roman! So sorry for the spook, are you alright?” Patton asked, immediately rushing forward for a hug. Patton was fond of hugs and Roman happily stood to give him one.
“Where is Virgil?” Logan asked, looking around the space.
“He went up to the attic,” Roman answered, pulling out of Patton’s grip. “He’s a little...uh…”
“Awesome?” Patton finished, watching Logan walk off towards the attic door.
“Yeah, sure.”
“Sorry we didn’t mention him sooner. We didn’t think it was going to be an issue,” Patton apologized, taking a seat at the breakfast table and taking off his cardigan.
“Not to worry, Padre. Just a little fright to get the blood pumping,” Roman waved it off, going back to his lukewarm food.
“I know it doesn’t go too well with noodles, but I’m in the mood for some coco. D’you want a mug?”
“I would love one. I think I’m pretty much done with these anyway,” Roman smiled, putting the lid back on the takeout container.
Patton made him his coco as he stuck his leftovers in the fridge to be heated up next time he wanted Thai food. Logan came down from the attic and assured him that everything was handled and that Virgil was back to stay for now. He then gave Patton a kiss on the cheek and retreated back to the basement where apparently he had very important work to do.
“So...any other secret roommates I should know about?” Roman asked, plucking a marshmallow out of the mug before it could sink into the coco.
“Nope! Just the one...and he isn’t much of a people person,” Patton assured.
Roman finished his coco, conversing with Patton about idle things like work and how he’s looking for auditions again and the other man’s fear of spiders. Eventually he couldn’t hold back his yawn and headed back up to his room thinking once again how strange everything was around here. Strange...but good.

name the artist of that song: BTS.
name your favorite animal: Dogs or elephants.
name what pets you have, if any:  Two dogs. Kimi, Cooper.

name the last person you talked to in person: Not sure. I think it may have been Nina? I was just jokingly asking her if her bias recognized her again on a VLive, since her comments have been read by her favorite group recently, and she tells me they even laugh at them :( Perks of liking a smaller, more underground group for sure; pigs would have to fall from the sky before anyone from BTS notices me lol.

name the current day of the week: Tuesday.
name the current month: May.
name the current time: 10:22 PM.

I have a LOT more pictures and videos, but for this post, here are ten. (A lot of the pictures that I haven’t posted are blurry, but still great for memories, lol.)
Here is my fan-account/post about this weekend when I saw Tiffany Young in Dallas!
Friday November 15th 2019 - Sunday November 17th 2019
Whoo! A lot has happened this weekend! It was a very fun weekend, lol.
I went to Dallas with my sister, and one of my best friends, Raven ( @snek-and-angle), for a concert.
Friday November 15th 2019
Day before the concert.
On Friday I didn’t do a lot, mostly spent the day in great anticipation, and I packed, and did my nails, and all that. My brother and his girlfriend informed us they weren’t able to come to Dallas with us, so that’s the main reason I’m writing it here. B/c I’m using it as an introduction. Initially, this trip was going to be me, my friend Raven, my sister, my brother, and his girlfriend. But, last minute it ended up just being me, Raven, and my sister. But we still took my brother’s car. (He and my sister traded for the weekend, lol) So, yeah. I went to bed late b/c I was up packing. Lol.
Saturday November 16th 2019
Day of the concert.
My sister and I got up early, I got up at like 8a, she’d been up for a little while, lol. Raven had messaged me she was up at like 7a. So, we got dressed, made sure we had everything we needed, I grabbed a beverage (my usual cherry coke lol), we said bye to our parents (who were still in bed lol), and the cats, and hit the road. First stop was picking up Raven. We picked her up and then we officially were on our way to Dallas!
We made one stop along the way, and that was at Buc-ees, b/c, well, we needed gas, plus, it’s Buc-ees. Lol. So, we got our gas, and also grabbed a snack. I got a chicken caesar salad and a pepsi icee. Then we drove the rest of the way to Dallas. We made really good time, and got there like 1 ½ hours before Check-in for our Hotel. So, we went to see if we could check in early, we couldn’t, b/c they didn’t have any King Suites available yet, but they allowed us to check our bags, and told us they’d call or text if our rooms were ready before 3p. So, we went to do a little exploring. There was a small park by our hotel, that had some Christmas decorations. We also popped into a Starbucks, but my sister & I didn’t get anything, only Raven did. We were going to chill there for a while, but..they closed. Lol. So, we went back to the park, and sat on a bench, and just did people and dog watching, chatting, and playing on our phones. Lol. Some kids came up selling bags of M&M’s for a $1, my sister and I declined, but Raven bought some (she loves M&M’s lol).
Our rooms weren’t ready before 3p, so at 3p we went back to the hotel, but only my sister’s room was ready. So, we got our bags, and went up to her room. We hung out in there, and I actually started to get ready for the concert, b/c our room was taking too long, lol. My outfit was a black lacy top, black leggings, and a maroon skirt, along w/ black boots. (Though at this point I was still wearing my tennis shoes lol)
My sister and I finally went down to see if our room was ready, and it was. So I got the room keys, and went back up, and Raven and I went to our room to finish getting ready.
Our hotel was Hotel Indigo, it was a pretty fancy hotel, located in Downtown Dallas, it stands where the Historic Dallas Opera house used to be. It was really nice and I loved it, but I think we felt a little out of place, lol. Anyway, we had two King Suites. One for my sister (which she was going to share w/ my brother & his girlfriend, but they didn’t come) and one for me and Raven. They were nice, they had a living room and a bedroom, a flat screen in both rooms, a really nice bathroom, a keurig, and a mini fridge. Mine and Raven’s suite was actually a little bigger lol.
So, once we were finally in our room, we finished getting ready. I did my hair(pig tails, w/ black and white bows, w/ metal buttons from Hot Topic, lol), makeup (literally just bb cream & lip gloss lol), put on jewelry(bangles, a cat ring on both ring fingers, my Buffy ring on my left ring finger and my ring from Sarah Rees Brennan on my right ring finger (yes, I wore two rings on each finger lol), I prepared my bag(tickets, id, money, lightstick, camera, portable phone chargers, etc), I put on my black boots, and then my sister met us at our room, and we went to dinner.
We went to a place called Zenna, which served Thai and Japanese food. And it just so happened to be Happy Hour, so I had a California roll and it was very good. We also had some edamame, and some spring rolls (which were some of the best spring rolls I’ve ever had). For my entree I had Teriyaki Chicken w/ fried rice, it was really good. I also had a coke for my drink. It was a really cool restaurant. Our waiter was also pretty cool, lol. We couldn’t finish our food, b/c there was so much, so we took the leftovers back to the hotel. (Leftovers I am currently eating while writing this post, lol) Raven and I then grabbed the things we’d forgotten, and then went back downstairs to get an uber and head to the venue. (My sister went back up to her room b/c she wasn’t going to the concert lol)
We took our uber to the venue, the guy literally got out of the car and opened the door for us, like a chauffer lol. (Raven followed along the route on her phone for as long as her phone would let her, and I followed it on google maps, I also texted my sister when we got in the uber, and when we got to the venue, for safety, always be cautious, you guys). And then stood in line for about an hour until doors opened at 7pm. We only had general admission tickets, so we didn’t get to meet Tiffany (this time, I’m hoping to get VIP the next time she tours, b/c I’m sure she’ll tour again, lol). The line wrapped around the side of the venue. It was cold, I brought my jacket, as I was wearing a lacy top, Raven had decided not to bring hers, b/c she was wearing a sweater, and we weren’t going to be outside very long. We ended up sharing my jacket back and forth, lol. A girl came around the line passing out glow sticks, we took them, but then after a while realized we didn’t want them, so we gave them to the people behind us, who were very happy to get them, b/c we’d gotten the last two. Some guys walked by offering “free hugs” and “free hugs from an Englishman” or something, Raven and I ignored them, lol. Once doors were open, the line moved pretty quickly, and we were inside by 7:04p. lol.
Once inside, we headed straight for the merch booth. I bought a tour t-shirt, the pen, and the photocard & stand set. Raven bought a lightstick. (I had my Girls’ Generation molar bong lol) Raven then bought a beer, and we went to find a place to stand, we were near the back. We took a pictures of our lightsticks together, and I was starting to accept that I would probably have a hard time seeing the stage, when the staff opened up the stairs to the balcony. Luckily, we were right by the stairs, so we booked it up there, and got a spot right on the railing, and I had a perfect view of the stage. (With a column blocking only a very small portion of the stage) I was right by the trash can, but it didn’t bother me (there wasn’t anything smelly in it) and it meant that there was no one but Raven beside me. Some girls asked Raven about her light stick, b/c it was the Tiffany Young one. Raven went down to buy another drink, and she bought me a coke. (B/c there was a $10 minimum & she needed to close out her tab lol) I took a few sips.
Then.
The show was starting. I had my lightstick in one hand, my camera in the other, and my coke at my feet (it was a bottled one lol). Everyone was chanting “TIFFANY! TIFFANY! TIFFANY!” the pink ocean below me was beautiful (I was part of a smaller pink ocean up top, but, of course, we were really all one pink ocean lol) Tiffany came out on stage dressed in sparkly blue shorts and a white top, white boots, blue lacy gloves, and a cowboy hat a fan had given her at the VIP Meet & Greet. I was floored. I was in awe. I was crying. I was screaming. I was singing. There in front of my eyes, in person, was the real life Tiffany Young of Girls’ Generation. I wasn’t looking at a screen, I was looking at the real Tiffany. She was singing Run For Your Life and I was so excited. I was filming, then I was taking pictures. She performed Over My Skin next. I’m not going to list the full set-list, b/c I can’t remember the order, and I can’t remember the names of some of the cover songs, lol. I didn’t film most of Run For Your Life and Over My Skin b/c I was taking pictures. Talk as well. I mastered, somewhat, the art of watching her on stage, and not looking at my camera, but keeping my camera on her. A few times it panned down to the audience, but, I mean, I was dancing and waving my lightstick and living in the moment! Because Tiffany Young was in front of me on stage putting on an amazing show and I was so so happy! Every song was more exciting, I didn’t touch my phone for 2 hours! I barely noticed how much my feet hurt (Raven and I both wore heeled boots, b/c they make our outfits look cool, and they make us taller, lol) I was living in the moment, I was seeing one of my idols, live and in person, for the very first time, after TEN YEARS of being a Sone. I was moved. It was..it was magnificent. I loved every second of it. I filmed most of the concert, though. Every song she performed, I just about died. Run Devil Run. Heartbreak Hotel. Teach You. All of them. I loved them all. She talked about how amazing we all are, and how much she loves us. She talked about mental health, and how important it is to take care of yourself, and to take care of those around you. She told us to let those we love and appreciate know we love and appreciate them. She interacted w/ us, and answered questions. She pointed out a fan w/ a rainbow flag. It was wonderful. It was magnificent. When the show ended, it felt like no time had passed, and I wanted it to go on forever! She came back out for the encore, and performed Magnetic Moon and Run For Your Life (again, I got it in full this time). And right as Run For Your Life ended, my camera died! Lol. I managed to get it back on to snap a few more picture, and then I put it away.
After the concert.
Once she had left the stage, and it was clear the show as over, Raven and I took some selfies, trying to get the stage behind us. And then staff told us they were closing off this section. So, I grabbed my coke from the floor, and we went back downstairs. We took a few more selfies, then tested Raven’s phone to see if we could order an uber, we could not b/c her phone wouldn’t come back on. So, we decided to use mine and order a lyft (b/c for some reason I had the lyft app already downloaded, even though I’d never used it before lol) We went outside, and it was freezing. We stood w/ the crowd by her tour bus for 20 minutes, while I tried to figure out the lyft app, and also hoping she would come out sooner rather than later..she didn’t come out before we left. But Raven was freezing, and our feet were killing us. So, we left to find one of the streets Lyft was telling us to go to. We found it, I ordered the lyft, and then we were on our way back to our hotel. (I texted my sister when we got in the lyft, and followed the route on both the lyft app, and google maps, for safety precautions) Once back at the hotel, I asked the front desk for some cutlery, so we could go up and eat our leftovers from dinner. Raven ate hers, but I only ate a few bites of mine, b/c it was cold and we didn’t have a microwave, lol. We went back down to the lobby in our pjs and bought powerades, lol. I made sure most of my stuff was packed, so the next morning wouldn’t be difficult, finished my powerade, brushed my teeth (and washed off my bb cream & lip gloss lol), had a bit of an issue when a very small cut started bleeding..but I dealt with it, it was fine. Lol. Then, we then watched some Holiday Baking competitions on the food network in bed, and then went to sleep. At least, she went to sleep, I was awake for longer than I wanted to be, b/c some of our neighbors were having a real good time, if you get what I mean. I also had a bit of a headache, which I assume was from the concert, b/c of the super loud music, and probably the crash from the adrenaline rush of the concert. I did eventually get some sleep though.
We did make one fatal mistake that night, part of the reason are feet were killing us at the concert is because..we wore the boots to dinner. We knew we were going to go back to the hotel after dinner, b/c we weren’t going to let my sister walk back alone, and we had things to get from the room, but we wore our boots anyway. So, our feet were already dead before we even left for the show.
Sunday November 17th 2019
Day after the concert.
I had set an alarm for 9:30a, so we woke up then. I actually set the alarm sound as Run For Your Life, b/c obviously. Lol. We got up, my feet were so sore, but so were my legs. I have a blister on one of my toes, lol. My sister texted saying to tell her when we were awake and ready to go. I told her we were awake, and we’d be ready soon. We got dressed and finished packing, I started drinking my coke from the night before (cause caffeine, also it surprisingly wasn’t flat! Lol). I took the shampoo & conditioner, and the lotion, b/c they were Rosemary Mint scented. Lol. I wore my Magnetic Moon Tour t-shirt, b/c of obvious reasons. I did not wear the boots, I probably won’t wear those boots for quite a while. Lol. We made sure we had everything all packed, and then we left the hotel at 10:30a.
We went back to the parking garage, and I was confused b/c I was looking for my sisters car, even though we came in my brothers. Lol.
Then, we went to a Japanese dollar store called Daiso, b/c we don’t have them here in Austin. It was so cool, and most things were $2. I ended up getting a cat fan, a purple erasable pen, a notebook, a pair of pink heart shaped glasses (like the ones from Taylor Swift’s You Need To Calm Down video, lol).  I also bought some soda flavored hi-chews that are fizzy (Raven says they’re really good), some cookies & cream pejoys. A Meiji Black Chocolate bar. A Dars white chocolate bar, that Raven said was a brand she loved in Japan. White chocolate coated cookies that Raven also said she loved in Japan. And a Hokkaido cream pastry, b/c, again, Raven said she loved them in Japan, lol. She actually got a green tea one, and I tried it and it was good, lol.
After Daiso, we headed to McAlister’s Deli to have lunch with my aunt and her boyfriend. (B/c they live in Ft. Worth.) I had the Four Cheese grilled cheese (though I took off the swiss, so it was a 3 cheese, lol, I also axed the tomato lol) a bag of chips, and a coke. We hung out and talked for a little while. And then we had to head out, so we could get back to Austin before it was dark.
So, we left Dallas/Fort Worth, and headed home. We stopped for gas. We stopped at a rest stop. And our only other stop was at Starbucks, where I got a Toasted White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino. We got back to Austin as the sun was setting. We dropped off Raven, right before the sun fully set. Then my sister and I drove home. When we got home, our mom was on the front porch (to smoke..b/c both of my parents still smoke), and so she opened the door for us, cause our hands were full, lol. Sister and I greeted all the cats, aside from Luna, who was still hiding. And gave them treats, but they didn’t eat them, lol. Then when my mom came inside, we showed her what we got at Daiso, and I showed her my merch. Luna eventually came out of hiding, and came straight over to me to say hello. I gave the cats treats again, and this time they wanted them. Lol. Then I ate half of my left-overs from Zenna (b/c I brought them all the way home lol). My sister & mom both seperatly ordered Panda Express through Uber Eats. Lol. My dad got home (he spends every Sunday over at his brother’s house for football lol). And, things were pretty normal for a Sunday night, lol. I was at my computer watching videos for a few hours, and scrolling Twitter. Occasionally going to talk to my mom. The cats have been doing their thing. And then I typed all this up, while eating the other half of my left-overs. Lol.
Overall it was an amazing weekend and I’m so happy I got to experience it with one of my best friends and my sister. I’m so happy I got to see Tiffany Young live. I think I’m still in shocked disbelief. Like, it feels like a dream. If not for my feet still being sore, and my merch, pictures, and videos, I probably would think it was a dream. Lol. It was the best weekend!

Chapter Two
Peter liked to stare. Maria was almost certain he couldn't even blink. His brown eyes bore into her own and she sat on the edge of her bed trying to avoid his gaze.
"How do you...this is impossible. There's no scientific explanation for what you do," Peter muttered. His blue face shown with concentration.
“There’s no scientific explanation? Peter, matter cannot be created or destroyed. Where do you think it goes after someone dies? It gets redistributed. You get redistributed. You exist in an alternate dimension and for some reason, I can see and interact with that alternate dimension.”
Peter's confused expression morphed into one of understanding. He walked closer and sat at the end of Maria's bed, facing away from the girl who was under the covers. The boy sighed and dropped his head into his hands.
"God, I'm sorry. I just...I don't know what happened to me. I was with Mr. Stark and then I was gone. I didn't even get to say goodbye. I was there and then I wasn't. And then I ended up in Queens again and there were all these people around but they couldn't hear me. Something drew me here though, I don't know why" he mumbled. It was almost as if he was thinking out loud, trying to figure out everything that happened to him.
"I do. People like you, they're drawn to me. I think subconsciously, spirits know that I can hear them. I don't know why or how but it comes in handy sometimes. I'm sorry that this happened to you, Peter. I know I don't know you very well but you seem like a nice guy. I wish I could help you," Maria responded. She threw the covers down and moved toward the end of the bed. She sat next to Peter and fiddled with her fingers to avoid looking at Peter.
"Wait, can you see every dead person? Like everyone that's ever died?" Peter asked. His voice brightened and he turned toward the girl seated next to him.
"Uh, yeah I guess. I've never tried to speak to anyone specific but it would probably work," Maria said. Her voice was laced with confusion. Peter's face morphed into one of excitement.
"This is great, you're the one the wizard was talking about. You're a miracle, Maria!" Peter said excitedly. He turned to face the girl with a large grin on his blue face. Maria raised her eyebrows incredulously in response to the boy next to her.
"Miracles? Really? You're getting your hopes up," Maria responded. Before Peter could respond, a voice interrupted the two.
"Maria, dinner's ready!" Isabel called from the kitchen.
"Stay here. We can talk about this plan of yours after I eat. I don't need my mom knowing there's a teenage boy in my room, even if you are dead," Maria whispered. Peter nodded with wide eyes and slouched on her bed.
"I ordered Thai, I hope that's okay? Did you're nap help at all?" her mother asked. Maria slid into her seat and started to eat the takeout on her plate. She nodded hesitantly in response to her mother. She fumbled around with her chopsticks and ate her noodles. Thoughts swarmed inside her head and she tried to focus on specifics but there were too many things going on.
Her main focus was Peter. The charming boy she had met at school today was dead. She couldn't believe it. He was so full of life and promise but now he was gone. Her mother talked about nothing and everything at the same time, almost as if she was trying to fill the silence.
The ringing of the phone drew the two women's attention from the food in front of them. Maria's mother stood and picked the phone up from the receiver. An automated voice droned on and her mother hung up after a few minutes of listening.
"Good news, Mar. School is canceled until further notice. Looks like you've got a surprise vacation," Isabel said with a smile as she sat back down at the table. Maria stopped mid-bite to look up at her mother with an incredulous expression.
"Until further notice? Wow, I didn't know it was that serious," Maria said.
"That serious? Babe, billions of people vanished today. You of all people should know how serious this is. People need time to cope, to get their lives back together. A lot of others weren't as lucky as we were," her mom responded.
Maria nodded and continued chewing. Her mom stroked the girl's face gently from across the table before the two continued eating in a comfortable silence.
The two finished eating and put away the leftovers in the fridge. Maria cleaned off the table and made sure everything was back in its place.
"I think I'm going to turn in for the night. If you need anything, you know where to find me. Night, Mar," Isabel said. She pressed a kiss to her daughter's forehead before retreating to her bedroom on the opposite side of the apartment. Maria walked into her own bedroom and shut the door. Peter was sprawled out on her floor examining her collection of old cassette tapes and records.
"You've got a pretty good collection. How long have you been buying these?" He asked as he skimmed through a box of vinyl.
"Most of them are my mom's. She was too nostalgic to give them away so she gave them to me a few years ago. The rest are from Goodwill and the garbage," She responded. Maria took a seat next to Peter and watched over his shoulder as he flipped through her favorite box of records.
"I get most of my best stuff from the garbage, it's like the ultimate thrift store in Queens," he said with a smile. Maria grabbed one of her favorites, Rumors by Fleetwood Mac, and put it on her turntable. The music filled the room with a vintage sound and Maria collapsed on the bed. Peter flopped down next to her and the two teens bonded over the sweet sound of songs from a different time.
Maria awoke with a start. She was still dressed in her clothes from yesterday and her record player was still turned on. She jerked around to find Peter seated at her desk.
"I was wondering when you were going to wake up. You passed out last night so I left and let you sleep. I didn't want to watch you...but then I came back and you were still sleeping so I guess I watched you sleep again anyway. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be creepy, honest. I got really excited to talk to you about my plan and I couldn't wait any longer so I came over. I hope that's okay," Peter rambled. Maria glanced at her phone and saw that it was almost 10am.
With a groan, Maria sat up and rubbed her tired eyes. Her gaze shifted toward the blue boy and a slight smile took over her features. Last night had been stressful, that's for sure, but her time with Peter was one of the most relaxing times spent with someone. Even if that someone was no longer among the living.
"So, you figured out a plan?" Maria asked sleepily. She ran her fingers through her hair and knew she would have to shower soon to feel more awake.
"Oh, yeah! Can you try calling to a guy I know? He told me his name was Dr. Strange, but I don't know if he was playing me or what. He's the one who knows the plan, so we need to talk to him. Do we have to perform a seance or something? I can pick an album to set the mood," He said quickly. This boy was the worst about rambling.
"A seance? God no, I just needed a name. We'll try Dr. Strange, but if he doesn't respond to that, I'm blaming you," Maria responded. She breathed in an attempt to focus herself. "Dr. Strange, if you're out there, please come forward. I would like to speak with you," she said. She kept her eyes closed, almost as if she was waiting for something to happen. After a few moments, she realized that it hadn't worked.
She turned to Peter with an exasperated look on her face, only to see a new man in her bedroom. His dark hair was streaked with gray and he wore what looked to be a cape. His ensemble was the most interesting thing Maria had ever seen, and she lived in New York.
"This better be important, I was checking in on the sanctum," the man, Dr. Strange, replied sassily. His hands fidgeted with a necklace around his neck, almost like something had gone missing from it not too long ago.
"Uh, I'm actually not sure why I called. It was all Peter's idea," Maria responded with a shrug. Dr. Strange's gaze shifted toward Peter and his eyes widened with understanding.
"Hey kid, sorry this thing got you too. It was the only way, though. If I would have had another choice, I would have taken it in a heartbeat," Strange said to Peter.
"That's actually why I told Maria to call you. I knew you saw how to fix this when you did that weird Exorcist thing with the green stone in your necklace, so I was hoping you could tell us so we can tell Mr. Stark," Peter responded. Maria waved at the man who glanced at her with a confused look on his face.
"So you can see both of us? You must be the one I was looking for then," Strange responded.
"What do you mean? You were looking for me?" she asked, her face full of confusion.
"I saw a girl in the timeline, a girl who was able to communicate between dimensions. You're a part of the endgame. You're our voice, like a translator between the living and the dead,"  Dr. Strange said.
"We need to get you in touch with Mr. Stark, he's the only one who can fix this," Peter said to Maria.
"Wait, like THE Tony Stark? How do you expect me to get in contact with him?" Maria asked.
"Call Happy. He'll be able to put you through with Mr. Stark and get you a meeting, especially if you mention what it's about," Peter responded.
"We need Tony Stark. He's a main player, kid. Call this Happy and get a meeting set up with Stark, it's the only way we can save the universe," Dr. Strange said.
"Hold up, save the universe? I'm a girl who can see dead people, not some all-powerful being? How the hell do you expect me to help The Avengers save the damn universe?" Maria said. Her voice was thick with frustration and her eyebrows were furrowed.
"You're a link between us and them. We can only do this together. Now, are you in?" Strange asked, eyeing the girl across the room from him.
"Fine. But if this plan of yours doesn't work, it isn't my fault," Maria responded. Peter rattled off Happy's number to the girl and she dialed it as fast as she could.
The phone rang a few times, with Maria getting more anxious as the dial tone kept going. At this rate, she was sure she would get his voicemail or that Peter had given her the wrong number. Just as she was about to hand up, a voice could be heard over the line.
“Happy Hogan speaking.”
“I need to get in contact with Mr. Stark,”
“What? Who the hell is this?”
“This is Maria Mendes, and it’s about Peter Parker.”

(Cook)Book Review: Build-A-Bowl by Nicki Sizemore
I have been obsessed with so-called “Buddha Bowls” for months now. These bowls, so named because their over-stuffed shape is reminiscent of the stereotypical Buddha belly, generally consist of a base of whole grains, a protein, a huge pile of veggies --cooked and/or raw-- and a sauce of some type. They’re great because they’re versatile, balance exciting flavor combinations with (usually) simple cooking methods, and are full of nutrients due to their emphasis on whole grains and veggies. So naturally, when I saw this cookbook available for review, I had to have it! And let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
Author Nicki Sizemore not only offers recipes for every meal of the day and covering 7 categories including fruit, eggs, and seafood as well as poultry and red meat options, she also introduces the reader to several different kinds of whole grains that can be used as the base of the bowls. Some, like wild rice, are familiar if not necessarily staples in every kitchen while others such as einkorn or buckwheat are less familiar (to me at least!) and offer not only a different flavor profile but new textures and even a different set of micronutrients to experience. Sizemore not only offers instructions on how to cook each grain, but also a brief history or origin as well as a flavor profile and ideas for what kind of bowl would best fit with each.
The recipes offer a wide range of flavors and textures and can be made to fit a variety of diets. I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian, myself, and found plenty of recipes to meet my requirements and tastes. There are gluten free grain options, and plenty of recipes that are or can easily be made vegan as well. And for the carnivores among us, well there are seafood, pork, chicken, turkey, beef, and lamb based dishes to choose from, too! From the autumnal Pumpkin Pie Rice Pudding to the Lox and Eggs with Chive Creme Fraiche, brunch is covered, and the Roasted Butternut Squash, Apple, and Goat Cheese Salad is perfect for a light lunch or would make a nice potluck dish. I have the Pork Banh Mi Bowls with Maple Sriracha Yogurt Sauce on the menu for my wife’s sake, and I’ll just substitute tofu for the pork for my own bowl. The first recipe I made from this book was the Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts with Eggs, which also uses the Maple Sriracha Yogurt and let me tell you, I’d eat that sauce on anything. SO GOOD. And my kiddo wouldn’t keep her sticky little hands out of the maple cinnamon pecans that go on top! Not that I can blame her, those things are like candy!

Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts with Egg (not pictured) and Maple Sriracha Yogurt Sauce -- and the famous Maple Cinnamon Pecans!
The great thing about these recipes is that despite the semi-long ingredient lists, they are relatively easy to swap out ingredients for what you have or what you like. Sure there is a nice combination of veggies listed for the Thai-Style Vegetable Curry, but it’s so easy to use whatever you have in your crisper drawer instead of the eggplant, sweet potato, broccoli, and green beans that are suggested. A few recipes suggest specific grains to use based on their particular flavor or texture, but ultimately you can use whatever you love or have to hand. Even the sauces can be mixed and matched according to your mood.
The only critique I have of this book is that the ingredient lists can be daunting, especially for inexperienced or anxious cooks. I urge you to give it a try anyway, and either just stick to the simpler recipes, or pick just one recipe a month to experiment with until you have the confidence to follow your instincts on what you can skip or substitute and what you really need to find for a given recipe.

Roasted Squash with Apple and Goat Cheese Salad (I added roasted beets for color!) I didn’t have any more pecans, so I made maple walnuts instead and I wasn’t even sad about it.
The other thing I love about this book is how much of it can be done ahead. I went out to the bulk section at my local Winco and stocked up on several different kinds of grains, and I have at least 2 batches in my freezer in addition to the leftover squash and goat cheese salad in my fridge (I made it with oat groats and apples from the tree in my backyard. What a treat!). I have plans to cook up a few more batches of grains and put them in the freezer along with a couple of different sauces and protein options so I have most of a bowl ready to mix and match once the school term gets underway. That will leave me with only a few things to defrost and some veggies to saute or roast between me and a nice healthy, balanced dinner even in the middle of the week.
Final Review, 5 out of 5 stars highly recommend!
