oh if any one wants context, theres been ongoing discourse in the atla fandom spaces on twitter of certain fans denying that zuko is a colonizer. it's mainly coming from the mouths of zut@ras who really wanted zuko and katara to be canon end game and when others in the fandom not only point out how aang and katara have loved each other from the beginning; but also how it'd be weird as hell for a show with clear anti-colonialism messaging to have a member of a colonised group be romantically involved with or even marry the crown prince of said imperial nation. so par the course they're doing revisionist media analysis and insisting that because zuko is 'good' and chooses to help the gaang that hes not really a colonizer. despite like 90% of his actions in season 1 and the tail end of season 2. like y'all talk about how good his redemption arc was, if he was never a colonizer; what exactly was he redeeming his self from then?

Sooo i was silently stalking the anti zut@ra / pr0 k@taang # and only 1.. only 1 blog pops up 🤭🤣🤣🤣🤣 in the last few days or so with a few likes and sh+t.

While our fandom keeps the entire atla universe alive with our never ending fanart, fan fics, zutara weeks/months and head canons.

Then someone said that both of them (the ‘asker’ and the ‘author’) are glad that in the atla youtube polls that their ship always wins 70/30 something to let ‘everyone’ know that majority is pro their (canon fodder) ship. Their fandom are really clueless that we hardly participate in that nonsense because we’re anti bryke 😆😆.

If they wanted to find out the real deal, their ship originally posted a youtube fanvid of the song ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ 2 years before we did and we got freaking more than a million likes than they is saying something about it.

The one I'm specifically thinking about was a while ago, and they were replying directly to me (cause, I'm not subjecting myself to that side of the fandom willingly), so we're probably not talking about the same person. I just think it's funny that the defenders of the canon ship are using fan art. It's almost like they KNOW Kataang is trash in canon.

Also, given the impossible number of voters on those polls, I think it's safe to say they're mostly bots. If you really want to get their panties bunched, talk about how many more Zutara fics there are than Kataang.

Honestly both Zutara and Zutaang are great and make much sense lol. Zutara represents the 'water & fire' elementals, and Katara and Zuko have many similarities and contrasts. But so do Aang and Zuko. And while Katara was the 'first person to trust Zuko' and got betrayed by him.... it was actually Aang who trusted Zuko first after Zuko 'rescued' him from his prison when Aang was captured. He said Zuko and him could be friends. And Zuko and Katara are very compelling, but also Aang and Zuko too... and the fact that Zuko starts the show trying to capture Avatar and then forms a friendship with Aang and they both become 'rulers' sort of, at the end of the story is a very powerful dynamic but I also love how Zuko and Katara fought together to take down Azula in the last battle. They are both great ships

I agree. I just don't like a majority of zut@ra fans lmao. They're just really annoying about especially the ones who are like vehemently anti Aang. The ship wars have to end because at this point I'm all for a OT3.

If I want to keep going in the Avatar tag I might have to blacklist Kat@ang and Zut@ra, not because I have any actual problem with either ship, but just because I'm sick of seeing the discourse. I don't care which pairing is 'better' or who Katara 'should be with', and I definitely don't care about what beef the shippers have with each other. It'd be a shame because there's nice fanart and edits for both ships, and not everyone is trying to start an argument, but I'm tired of it.

Can you let me know where blissful ignorance is? Do you not at all interact? Asking sincerely. The top post in the kataang tag is a zut@ra post that says they feel sorry for Kataangers and then lists all this anti-Aang bullshit. I had to block the three Kaatangers that engaged seriously with it. I also want peace and quiet, but where is that to be found where even in supposed safe spaced, Zuta@ras are up my ass?

I do not interact with fandom discourse. Meaning, I almost never (there are very few exceptions) comment on things relating to that. I might reblog or like something, but I don’t say things. 

I have been in this particular fandom for very long, and I used to be more involved in that regard. I do not do it anymore. Fandom discourse tends to fuel an annoyance and an anger deep within someone that ends up becoming a ball of stress and eventually leads them to want to leave a fandom. Sometimes, it makes someone associate a thing they love (i.e. a book, show, game, movie etc.) with negative things. I have left a fandom before because of the negativity that I saw within it. I don’t want that for myself when it comes to Avatar which is a show that is close to my heart, so I stopped and I do not interact. Meta is something I’ll always love, but that’s not fandom discourse. 

I won’t comment on the rest of what you have said here, but I might suggest that blocking tags might be helpful. You can also not look through ship tags which are breeding grounds for negativity and fights. If you want to look through specifically wholesome K@taang content, try looking through the #kataangtag.

dude. i’m so glad you laid out those k//llura thoughts. i saw the rise and fall of that pairing over time and it was just… painful to watch. i sort of liked it too in s2 but it was super, super obvious it wasn’t going to go canon, ever. just thinking about vld ka//ura is painful. i used to like it quite a bit, followed a few shippers, but i have most of them blocked now because of the hideous things they started saying : ///

Agree there. I used to like the ship, but over time it was pretty obvious that all the moments in s2 were merely winks at the camera like the EPs said and never amounted to anymore then that. Because after that, kall//ura didn’t have many strong interactions. Keith’s strongest relationship with anyone in the series, plantonic or otherwise, was with Shiro, not Allura.  It became obvious that Allura//nce was the endgame ship that they had in mind, because, unlike Kallu//ra, their interactions are romantic. But after modding a kallu//ra server, having some very bad experiences on it and have a lot of horror stories I can tell about that alone, and seeing a good amount of the shippers become very toxic, I just blocked a lot of the shippers, except the ones that were multishippers, and blacklisted the pairing name. Because I don’t tolerate the kind of bullshit they spout out. 

With that said, ships in general  will always have toxic shippers in the bunch. Hell, I heard of pretty toxic she//ith shippers, who will denounce the show if that doesn’t become canon.  I feel the existence of the antis lets people excuse their shitty actions by saying, “I acted like a bitch, but at least I didn’t harass the show staff!” Because the klantis are much more loud and have larger numbers, toxic shipper’s behaviour fly under people’s radar, especially for smaller pairings like Lotu//ra and Kall//ura.

Petty people that act out when the canon doesn’t go the exact way they want still exist in fandom. Despite what you might think, the people who behave like that are sometimes adults around my age or even older. Because I seen plenty of stupid hot takes about how Zu//tara should’ve be canon, and that series ended a decade ago! (Those make me embarassed as a Zut//ara shipper, since even I admit that Kaa//tang was intended to be endgame.) 

 It’s a damn shame, too. Shipping is for fun. And people can ship things despite them not being canon. I have plenty of crackships in the Gravity Falls and YuGiOh fandoms. The modern fandom idea that a pairing must be canon in order to be justified is just bizarre to me. 

Antis seem to think people ship zut@ra because we see K@tara as Zuk0's redemption arc but that's not true at all. K@tara didn't "fix" Zuk0, he did that all on his own by standing up to his abusive father, joining team @vatar to teach @ang fire bending, and becoming the next fire lord after 0zai's defeat so he could finally end the 100 year old war and oppression. It's not like r3¥l0 since antis compare zut@ra to that ship.

Kataang stans aren't being negative though? Don't do false equivalance, it's harmful, unless you can point me out the 5-paragraph anti-Zut@ra equivalent to that garbage in Amy's blog. We are not wasting time fighting with those people about how shit Zuko is and their arguments are, so please stop roping Kataang shippers in with this.

Hey anon, I didn't mean K@taang shippers were also responsible for this specific instance, just that the root cause is a shipping war both parties have been involved in for years.

Anyway, as I said before, I rarely get involved in fandom discourse anymore and this is precisely the reason I don’t. Nothing against you, anon, but I just would like to continue living my life in blissful ignorance.
