Joey had known Maya their entire lives, and she still managed to take them by surprise. “What a concept.” They meant it genuinely, but it still came across as sarcastic. “I’ve never thought about it that way, but then again, people usually aren’t nice to me, so I feel like I shouldn’t be nice to them. “ i know it’s strange, but it’s always worked for me. “ maya offers a gentle shrug of her shoulders, she has never known anyone the way she has with joey -- their entire lives and she has always appreciated them. “ it really works, being nice to someone after they have been mean to you. it really shocks them. and your moral compass i shall be. “

During his tour overseas most places did not have locks. ‘’I’m glad.. that you’re alright I mean.’’ Ray smiling softly, started disarming the gun just to be safe, hoping it would make her feel more comfortable and at ease, as well as himself. ‘’Maybe you should Sof, there’s never going to be a right time anyway and if you feel unsafe I could escort you if you’d want. It’s not like I don’t have the time.’’ Ray offered, returning the smile with a warm one of his own. ‘’Same old same old really, not much has changed for me, thinking of becoming a private eye though.’’

“ i get it. “ sofia reassures with another kind smile. “ you know what ? i’d really appreciate that thank you. “ truth be told ? even being a newborn she felt unsafe, she’s gifted and worried someone would find out and that when others realized she fed on humans she’d be in more of a danger. “ yeah ? i think you’d be make a great private eye. what made you decided that ? if i may ask ? “

“ yes, sir, i completely get what you mean.” becca is nothing if not polite, she had been raised well and knew to respect those older, wiser than her. “ what do you recommend ? other then not walking alone at night. i’m an er nurse. i work weird shifts, so it couldn’t hurt to hear your advice. and know of another way to be extra safe and careful. ”

“——— oh? oh no, i don’t think so…” he chuckles softly at being caught for his reaction, “you just remind me of someone that i met recently, i didn’t know there were more people with… your eye color and, well.. you know,” mentioning the odd diet that caused the golden eyes maybe wasn’t the best idea when they could be anyone hearing nearby. “i’m visiting and old friend, and since i’m staying here for a while i thought it’d be nice to see what has changed. didn’t realize it’d change this much, but…”

“ i understand your shock then, “ tanya then lowers her voice, nothing if not cautious to humans who may overhear. “ my coven we all share that same diet, much like the cullens, perhaps you bumped into one of my sisters ? “ she offers unsure but it wouldn’t have surprised her much. “ i’m tanya denali by the way. and how ironic i’m doing the same more or less. i came for the remainder of my family when they called we came. a lot of things change over the years, i feel the same so much has changed around me. “ over decades.

It happened so quickly. One moment, she was strutting down the street, not a care in the world, thrift shopping on her mind as she sipped her coffee and munched on the world’s most delicious bagel.  The next moment, chaos. Some random suit bumped into her and the bagel - the beautiful, fresh bagel with the perfect amount of cream cheese on it - fell to the ground. Face down in the dirt. A tragedy.  “This is it, my villain origin story,” she said aloud to no one in particular. The whole talking to herself thing was a delicious trait she had picked up from her mother. Oh god, she was turning into her mother. Staring down at the now soiled bagel, Billie half whined, “I’m about to go film myself crying on my kitchen floor, Trisha style.”

clare had witnessed what had happened and she gives the most sympathetic smile she could manage, which wasn’t much but she had never been good at making others feel better with words. instead she offers her own uneaten bagel. “ you can have mine if that’ll make you feel better. and if you do that can i go cry on the floor with you ? and we can do a mukbang ? “

On her way home, out of nowhere it starts pouring, making Cali instantly regret not taking the time this morning to put on a coat.

Stuffing her notes under her shirt in an attempt to keep them dry, she looks around for shelter, only to realise she’s not actively trying. The cold temperature of the rain didn’t bother her much, it never really had since her first shift. However, she hated it nonetheless.

Probably looking like an insane person, just standing unmoving in the rain, Cali leaves the street and dives into the nearest building, which happens to be a bar.

Swinging the door open, Cali rushes in, bumping into the nearest person, causing her to drop the papers. Fuming, Cali sneers at them, ’’Hey! Watch where you’re going!’’

“ you alright ? “ laurel inquires and she forces herself politely to pick up what the other had dropped when someone had bumped into them. “ people these days so rude, they never look at where they’re going.“ she’d know since she’d been turned she’d became accustomed to people watching. wondering how she’d went from that to whatever this is.

there’s one thing that alec admires about the humans, and it’s the fact they have a word like personal space, and the fact that they’re all conscious of it. except, apparently, the person that’s right behind him in the line. being in public makes him hungry, and if the repercussions didn’t exist he would turn around and rip their throat out, but instead they just turn around and glare. “i don’t care if you’re in a rush, take a step back, i can feel your breath on the back of my neck.”

becca looks almost stunned as the person in the hurry then pushes past her, earning a shake of her head in disbelief. as the brunette bends down to pick up the belongings she had dropped in the process. “ wow, i get being in a rush.. but jeez. “

Faking a smile to those who walked out of the shop, Joey mouthed a very dry “Sorry” before turning back towards their best friend. “How do you do it? How are you so nice to everyone?” 

“ it’s okay.“ is what maya mouths back, the redhead gives a smile as she turns to her best friend. an offers a small shrug of her shoulders. “ i just treat people the way i wish to be treated, it’s kind of always worked for me.“

“ this time i won’t ask about whatever you’re doing. “ tanya didn’t like to be that person, and didn’t like when she had to be tough on her sisters. but sometimes it had to be done, even she didn’t want to. it was hard to be their leader, and something that even at times she didn’t like. but it’s just the way it is. “ whatever it is, it has to stop.“  the tone in her voice isn’t harsh, but said like it was a fact and not a choice. her expression turns into that of a serious one. “ we now more than ever need to be careful, and to stick together.” she shakes her head, unsure how she felt other than not entirely surprised. “ i hope you know i’m not being like this because i want to, i just want you to be safe and don’t want anything to happen to you.“ i wouldn’t be able to forgive myself. but that she doesn’t say.

it’s only when he notices the golden eyes that he takes a step back. besides the cullen, there had been only one other vampire with that specific trait. a few weeks have passed since their meeting and he just… couldn’t get her out of her mind. he offers a grateful smile, for some reason feeling embarrassed about asking in the first place, “oh… if it’s really not a bother it’d be so helpful and i’ll follow right behind you… seattle has changed a lot since my last visit i can’t seem to get my sense of direction in check.” 

tanya raises her eyebrows as the step is taken back, it earns a curious glance from the brunette. “have we met before?” comes her all but curious response. it didn’t seem LIKELY she tried to remember faces and names of people she had met. but even she struggled after such a long time. “it isn’t. i was just finishing up anyway.“ she reassures with the friendly smile written across her features. “ well, welcome back to seattle then. what brings you here ? if i may ask.“

It had been just another boring day at the coffee shop, and Joey was counting the minutes until their shift was over. Someone had just ordered some convoluted drink that wasn’t even on the menu, and of course Joey got stuck with the task of accurately making it. They were suddenly regretting their employee of the month status. As the milk was steaming, Joey began ranting to their coworker, who probably wasn’t even paying attention. “I really don’t understand, why people can’t stick to the menu, it really isn’t that hard. Besides, coffee tastes better without all this shit in it. Suddenly, the machine made a strange noise. “What the fuck?” Joey hit the side of the machine a few times before it powered down. “Great. That’s just great.” They muttered to themself before addressing the rest of the customers. “Can I have everyone’s attention please? The espresso machine is currently down, which means no more fancy coffee until it’s fixed.” 

maya shoots joey a smile, glad she’d been there when people clearly where displeased about the expresso machine. “ there’s another coffee shop not far from here, has expresso too.“  the redhead suggests to those unhappy faces she sees. just trying to make things better, as she always did.

“——— hey… watch out!” there’s barely any time to think before she pulls the human away from the cycler’s path. if anyone noticed her moving faster than any normal human should be able to, it’s something she doesn’t worry about… she could always blame it on the adrenaline if the need arises anyways. the only thing on her mind right now was how glad she was to get there in time to stop the collision. “that was way too close…”

“ oh my god.“ maya barely has any time to even react, but she’s thankful to be pulled out of the path. the redhead is still partially shaken from what had just occurred, but she still manages an apprecative smile. “ thank you, that could have been really BAD. i’m so glad you were there, so thank you again.“

“hey-” it’s closer to a bark than it is any KIND of greeting. his uniform on ( and looking mighty fine inside of it ), his arms crossed over his chest and his chin held a little too high, cris… was not the most DELIGHTED looking guy, for someone who was on duty and not behind a desk for the first time in a WHILE. “the city might be gone to shit, but littering is still a crime.” 

“ i wouldn’t go that far i’d just say it went downhill.“ sofia shrugs gently, and there’s a soft shake of her head at who had been littering. “ i can’t believe people litter, it ruins the environment and is a crime too. “

“ i’d say that’s a first that someone willingly admits it.“ clare bluntly admits, but she gathers the tone and that it’s joking. she even laughs. “ it’s alright i don’t mind the company, and it’s no fun to stand around when there’s a perfectly good seat.“
