Emma constantly running away from Hook showed he was abusive and she wanted to get away. He's always literally holding her back and stopping her from running
hmm. interesting take ! but I disagree.
what we see from Emma is that she runs when she's scared - she runs when life gets hard, or relationships get hard, or when she feels she's going to get hurt. growing up, she never had anyone who cared for her or be there to miss her. so she would always run. she never had anyone to run after her, no one had ever cared enough. she said it herself - she will continue to run until she misses a place. Emma also guards her heart carefully. After what she went through, especially in regards to Neal, she holds her cards close and neverletss anyone in. the last time she opened up to someone - he left her in jail and never came back.
this culminates in the end of season 3 - she wants to run again. she has a family and friends in storybrooke, and that scares her. having people she cares about means having people who can hurt her. so she wanted to run away again. would a life alone, away from her family, had been better ? I'd say not.
but running away is all Emma knows, all she has ever known. a life of loneliness, shutting people off before they can get close and have a chance to hurt her. if anyone gets to break her heart, it's going to be her.
now hook. hook came into her life, and he was a constant from the start. even when she pushed him away, he wouldn't budge, wouldn't leave her. he stayed by her side, showed her that he wasn't going to leave like everyone else. Emma needed that - needed someone to show her they cared enough to ignore her attempts at distance.
why did she need this ? because she used the distance as a safety mechanism. she would push people away to see if they care enough to pull her back in. no one ever did. not before she met hook.
he was by her side through it all - although he was vocal and open about his intentions of winning her heart, he never pushed her. he gave her space, let her come to him at her own pace. even after their adventure to the past, and after she agreed to stay in storybrooke, he sat in front of the dinner waiting for her to come to him.
ultimately, killian wasn't holding Emma back. he was keeping her anchored to her home. yes, he was stopping her from running away, but I ask again - is that a bad thing ? that he wanted her to stay in storybrooke and be with her family. (its important to note that he only mentioned her family, never himself. it was Emma that always read between his lines and included him in that family).
so yes, in a sense - killian is keeping her from running. but that isn't a bad thing, nor does it make him abusive. she was never running away from him - season 4 and onward shows her cling onto him (even in death). she was running away from being hurt, and he showed her she doesn't have to do that anymore.

No one:
Me: You know who would have been better as Belle's infidelity partner than Will Scarlet? Jefferson.
Tumblr media
Before I begin, THIS IS NOT A BELLE HATE POST! Yes, I am going to address IT, but I am not putting her down for this...and I'll tell you why.
So after that god-freaking-awful twist in 4x11 when Belle sends Rumple over the town line, both he and Belle are left shattered at their dubious betrayals, the latter of which so much so she sought additional comfort (again, not hate, just hear me out).
That love interest ... for whatever reason ... was Will Scarlet, a cameo from Once Upon a Time's short-lived spin-off OUAT in Wonderland, which had ended a few months prior.
Tumblr media
I, along with a good chunk of the fanbase, thought it was a unique choice, and most likely a way to acknowledge the spin-off in canon.
Don't get me wrong, I like Will as a character in OUATIW, but he was just off to me in OUAT. Like he was just shoved in there without a real purpose. Even his scenes with Robin Hood felt forced to me.
And honestly, it seemed strange to me that Belle, the logical scholar and fruitful romantic, would break her wedding vows of all things even after what Rumple did.
BUT THEN AGAIN, I also don't think it's established how intensive wedding vows are in this universe. I mean, Snow technically cheated on David with Dr. Whale, and while it's addressed comedically, it's not really addressed as an issue in their marriage but they comfortably move on from none the less.
Of course, it's obviously just the show's weakest attempt at *drama* and a way to baffle the Rumbellers into stunned silence so they can focus on *other things* (I am NOT going THERE today.)
And I think I remember an article or something about Will's actor's Michael Socha, feeling underused and wanting out especially since he had a kid at home. While he has a few zingers between him and other characters like Rumple and Hook, he looks so awkward when he's on-screen with Belle, like even he doesn't know why he's there!
But for the sake of *drama* Belle needs some side yum. Cool. Girl's gotta work out her frustrations some way right? But WILL SCARLET?!
This Will Scarlet?
Tumblr media
"I love you Anastasia Tremaine" Will Scarlet?
Tumblr media
Who ripped his heart out because her betrayal was just too much?
Tumblr media
For freaking sake, they had a TLK!!!
Tumblr media
I will only, and I mean ONLY accept the following two theories as a reason why...this happened...
1. This takes place during Will and Anastasia's break.
It's established in the OUATIW that the events in the spinoff are happening sometime in either late-season 1 or early season 2's canon. I think. But maybe, just maybe, it was actually around season 4's timeline? The timeline is screwed to hell anyway so...
Ana's presence is established in OUAT after Will, who broke into the library and vandalized a copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, is arrested and held indefinitely. And while Will looks distraught at the mention of his former love, but he's not devastated enough
The scene subsequently serves as a pointless but sweet way to introduce Belle and Will. I myself wrote a fic few years back as a way to fill in how that played out afterwards. But the actual writers just kind of tossed it in there.
And dropped it.
Yeah, WIll just kind of disappeared after season 4. Thanks for stopping by, I guess.
And btw, you cannot convince me that a guy who reacts like this after watching the love of his life get killed in front of him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like I kid you not, Will's screams and cries were stuck in my head after that episode. I gasped and covered my mouth. I remember feeling the same way when Graham died in OUAT because Emma's grief was just as raw as this. This is not the kind of grief you just up and move on with so casually. This sticks with you.
BACK TO JEFFERSON
Okay, I swear, I have a point.
Again, if Belle just *needed* a love interest during her break from Rumple, fine, but why not use the opportunity to do some freaking fan service after that Frozen mess?
Bring. Back. The. Hatter.
Why Jefferson?
He has an established relationship with Belle.
Tumblr media
Even if the ugly truth is Jefferson had to know Belle was being held captive in the hospital asylum, Belle would still, begrudgingly, be grateful he freed her and reunited her with Rumplestiltskin. Maybe he tried apologizing with coffee, and...things happen.
Plus he has an established relationship with Rumplestiltskin PRIOR to Belle.
No. You cannot tell me these two:
Tumblr media
...were just "business associates". No these two were hitting shroons in Wonderland every Tuesday at happy hour, do I make myself clear? It's obvious they weren't friends but they worked well together.
That scene in the shop would have been BANGER if Jefferson had been in Will's place. I mean the possibilities are endless with their establishment. They could have opened up an opportunity to explore more of Rumple's deals with Jefferson to find a way to the Land Without Magic, or even their shared connection with Regina, established, beloved connections in the series the audience would be comfortable with.
And honestly, I think Belle and Jefferson could have very nice chemistry too.
Their both worldly, and I can see these two sitting at a booth in Granny's forever as Jefferson told her her stories about his travels, maybe even a few tales about his deal and possible friendship with Rumplestiltskin. And maybe he helps her heal a bit.
That scene in 4x12 where Belle and Hook talk about Rumple really rubbed me the wrong way. What Rumple did to Belle and, yes, even Hook, was awful, but Hook never had to answer for his part in Rumple's decline. What did he think would happen if he threatened to blackmail him with Belle of all people?
Not to mention, Belle and Grace would have gotten along so well.
Tumblr media
At this point in the series, Grace is a young teenager, and could possibly use a female presence. She like Henry, would probably understand that her father needs more companionship and would support their relationship. And it would be great foreshadowing to Belle's own relationship with her child later on. And Belle LOVES kids and could have formed a very promising bond with Grace. Regardless on how her relationship with Jefferson could have ended, Belle would have this girl over for sleepovers every week.

Isn’t it funny that I adore Captain Hook when he is meant to be a villain (Peter Pan and its various remakes) but hate him vigorously when he is supposed to be the hero (Once).

I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate THIS moment right here.
regina says this because killian took a stab at her saying " maybe you like not having emma around, maybe you like having your son to yourself ", SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES.
but what I really like about this is regina took offense to that, she thought it was insulting that killian could even think that.
my theory *pulls up a chair*, or should I say, GAY theory, is that regina was so quick to respond, not only because she LOVES one upping hook (a topic for another day), but because she could never think that way about emma.
it's insulting that hook could ever say that about reginas relationship with emma because she needs her.
I don't think this was just about bickering with the pirate she doesn't like, I think it's regina defending her relationship with emma from someone who oh so desperately wants her out of emmas life (he's shown jealousy when emma was paying more attention to regina than him !).
regina genuinely does care about emma, and she genuinely was trying to get her back to the best of her ability. I just think their relationship and friendship has so many layers and regina being a little defensive? is definitely one of said layers.
this could also be read as regina defending her wits because we all know she's smart and wouldn't just leave the emma situation alone, but that also leads back to her wanting and trying to get emma back.

I wish CSers would crawl back into the slimy holes they came from😡
And for the last, FREAKING time!! Baelfire faked his age to avoid the system!! And it doesn’t take Spencer Reid and his super high IQ to freaking flipping figure that out!!!!!
CSers are stupid and it doesn’t matter how much you block and filter because they ALWAYS find a stinking way to get around the loopholes and tag their anti crap in OUR tags!! I hate them and they have been ruining everything about once upon a time since October 2012😭

Alternative ending to season 5. Hook stays dead. Moves on to Olympus. Roland is adopted by Regina.
Season 6 pretty much happens as normal, but without C$. Emma get grief counseling. Replace the wedding with a birthday or anniversary or Snowing vow renewal.
In season 7 it's Emma who gives Henry the magic message in a bottle. She got it from Gold's shop. Years later in the NEF, Henry calls Emma and Regina for help. When they arrive, Roland (who's 10) sort of piggybacks Regina and tags along. The search for Ella begins. Emma heads to the docks where she's found by wish Hook. He concocts a plan to convince Emma that he's her Hook, so he can get TLK to cure his poisoned heart. He gets Lady Tremaine to make him young and posses as the other Hook miraculously raised from the dead. Ultimately his plan fails because he can't go through with it. He over hears Emma tell Henry she's pregnant. Emma reveals that she went through artificial insemination and is going to raise the baby on her own. Wish Hook reveals himself. He and Regina decide to help Henry continue his search for Ella. Roland stays with Regina. Emma decides to return to Storybrooke. She says goodbye to Henry and gives him a big tight hug cause there's no douche Hook around with some bullshit about hugging is bad for the baby. Rest of season goes as usual, but now Roland is around and he grows up in the NEF.
Regina unites the realms and is elected queen. At the coronation, Emma arrives late. She's got a diaper bag over her shoulder and in her arms she holds her baby daughter, Hope Swan.

I could watch this all day.
Regina had no right. Killian knew that. Killian stopped her cruelty against Emma.
He'd been against using the dagger to control her from the start. He believed in her enough to help her without using force.
Tumblr media
"Are you all right?"
I love that Killian puts the dagger down before asking. He's been in a hurry to get rid of the darkness but since they got there he's been all about "Emma's choice". He's livid at Regina & he knows being controlled by the dagger hurts Emma.
That is true love.

h00k threw away henrys food all the time and force-fed him useless shit like herring or cod and constantly made him feel unwelcome at home to the point where Henry felt safer running away from h00k than staying with him
right because caring about and wanting your loved ones to eat healthy is sooo abusive /s

Okay but like, it really is a damn shame that Hook didn’t get to see Milah again in the underworld because imagine how embarrassing that would be.
Like he spent his whole life (hundreds of years) trying to avenge her death and she seriously could not care less.
Hook: I spent years trying to avenge your death!
Milah: What a waste of fucking time. It would have been nicer if you looked after my son for me.

A few tropes I've seen in Captain Swan AUs that I adore
(by no means a comprehensive list, nor are these present in every fic!)
David and Emma are siblings. In almost every modern au, David is Emma's overprotective older brother, and Mary Margaret is her sister-in-law. They are almost never her parents.
Liam is alive! Victory!
Liam is not alive! Angst!
Rumbelle must be fixed. There is an innate realization in CaptainSwan fans that Rumplestiltskin has committed too many errors and Belle deserves better, so I'm delighted by how many modern aus pair her off with someone else entirely, as a treat. This often pairs well with a Liam Lives AU.
Elsa! Elsa only showed up in half a season of ouat, but she's often given a sister or close friend role for Emma, and that's honestly very beautiful.
Jefferson and Hook are friends. These guys literally never interact in canon, but they have a good fanon friendship for whatever reason
While the villainization of Milah, Neal and Walsh is common in fics, I have never seen a fic in which Graham is the evil ex boyfriend. In this house we honor Graham Humbert.
Brennan Jones is a bad dad, always, in every universe. I remember reading a fic where not only was Brennan still alive and being a bad dad, but Cora was Killian's stepmother, and there was a section where Bennan told Cora off for something she did and I thought "wow, you know you're a bad parent when Brennan Jones calls you out on it."
