#anti Daeron II

Note
Honestly, how can you like the Blackfyres when they represent misogyny, racism, toxic masculinity, and failure? Daeron the Good, on the other hand, was by far one of the best, if not THE best, king Westeros ever had. Daemon was a warmonger. Daeron raised Baelor Breakspear, one of the best people to have ever lived in Westeros. Daemon raised Aegon and Aemon who were "witless bullies." Daeron was loved by Naerys (awesome), Aemon (awesome), Daenerys (awesome), and Elaena (best princess ever).
Pt2 Who was Daemon loved by? I guess his mother Daena who we can assume was a piece of shit since she worshipped her brother the Young Dragon. Daeron the Good was creating a dynasty of racial tolerance, having heirs that were mixed with Valyrian, Dornish, Stormlander, and eventually Tyroshi via Kiera of Tyrosh. His heirs were wise and would rule as well as he did.
This is a blog that sometimes answers questions about A Song of Ice and Fire and related supplemental books (Tales of Dunk and Egg, The World of Ice and Fire, Fire and Blood, SSMs) written by George R.R. Martin. I wanted to make this clear, because from the content of your messages I’m not entirely sure you’ve read these books.
Honestly, how can you like the Blackfyres
Check my house Blackfyre tag; I’ve answered this question 4 times from people a good deal less hostile than you were. You are not entitled to my time.
when they represent misogyny, racism, toxic masculinity

and failure?
Nobody tell anon about Ned’s execution, the Red Wedding, Summerhall, Brienne and Arya’s Riverlands arcs, the GOT series finale, or tragedy as a genre/narrative tool in general; their head might explode.
Daeron the Good, on the other hand, was by far one of the best, if not THE best, king Westeros ever had
Tumblr media
Check my anti Da3ron II tag for why I don’t agree. Stating an opinion without supporting evidence isn’t a great way to build an argument.
Daeron raised Baelor Breakspear, one of the best people to have ever lived in Westeros.
If you’re going to give him credit for Baelor, why not give him credit for Aerys I or Bl00draven? Or does the do-nothing monarch and the kinslaying tyrant secret police chief not support your argument?
Daemon raised Aegon and Aemon who were "witless bullies."
I guess I have to remind you that Aegon and Aemon were 12-year-old boys who were murdered in front of their father on Bloodraven’s orders. As for the “witless bullies” comment, here’s what GRRM had to say about Joffrey (a proven sadist and tyrant) dying: “I also tried to provide a certain moment of pathos with the death. I mean, Joffrey, as monstrous as he is…is still a 13-year-old kid. And there’s kind of a moment there where he knows that he’s dying and he can’t get a breath and he’s kind of looking at Tyrion and at his mother and at the other people in the hall with just terror and appeal in his eyes—you know, “Help me mommy, I’m dying.” And in that moment, I think even Tyrion sees a 13-year-old boy dying before him. So I didn’t want it to be entirely, “Hey-ho, the witch is dead.” I wanted the impact of the death to still strike home on to perhaps more complex feelings on the part of the audience, not necessarily just cheering.” If GRRM wanted us to feel some sympathy for Joffrey while dying, he definitely wanted us to consider the deaths of two seemingly normal 12 year olds a tragedy.
Also, you bring up Aegon and Aemon, but not the decent Daemon II, Aenys, and Haegon. We love consistency.
Daeron was loved by Naerys (awesome), Aemon (awesome), Daenerys (awesome), and Elaena (best princess ever)
[Citation Needed] We have no canonical interactions between Daeron and Daenerys, and the only canonical interaction we have between Daeron and Aemon is when they teamed up to tell Aegon to banish a teenage girl and her infant son (their half-brother and nephew) from court over something her father said (which I guess is “awesome”). I’ve made my own feelings on Elaena clear in her tag (and gotten some bizarre hate for it), but I doubt they had a warm relationship.
Who was Daemon loved by?
“Until this moment, he had never met a man who'd fought for [Daemon Blackfyre]. I must have, though. There were thousands of them. Half the realm was for the red dragon, and half was for the black. —The Sworn Sword
“He made friends easily, and women were drawn to him as well.” —2005 SSM
“The whole realm knew that [Daenerys] loved Daeron's bastard brother Daemon Blackfyre, and was loved by him in turn, but the king was wise enough to see that the good of thousands must come before the desires of two, even if those two were dear to him…” —ADWD The Watcher and “Despite Daemon and Daenerys being in love, her brother the king, Daeron the Good, was more concerned with matters of state than matters of love…” 2012 GRRM interview
“…Old fools and young malcontents still make pilgrimages to the Redgrass Field to plant flowers on the spot where Daemon Blackfyre fell. I will not suffer Whitewalls to become another monument to the Black Dragon.” —The Mystery Knight
Are you sure you’ve read these books?
I guess his mother Daena who we can assume was a piece of shit since she worshipped her brother the Young Dragon.
You got the order wrong; it says in the relevant SSM that she worshipped her father Aegon and idolized her brother Daeron, and it was only her admiration of Aegon that was mentioned in TWOIAF. Also, calling a woman “a piece of shit” because she liked the brother who didn’t lock her in a tower or usurp her throne is hardly the antisexist behavior the Blackfyre antis claim to adopt; and if we judged all ASOIAF female characters based on the men they like, we’d find very few of them likable.
Take, for example, Elaena Targaryen. “The great love of her life was her cousin, Alyn Velaryon, the seafarer and admiral known as Oakenfist…” (same SSM as previous) However, Velaryon was instrumental in Daeron’s conquest of Dorne “Daeron divided his host into three forces…one led by the king's cousin and master of ships, Alyn Velaryon, traveling by sea…most importantly, the royal fleet broke the Planky Town and then was able to drive upriver” and “Lord Alyn Oakenfist descended once again upon the Planky Town and the Greenblood.” (TWOIAF Daeron I). If Daena gets called a “piece of shit” for admiring the man who instigated the Conquest of Dorne, surely Elaena would be equally (and unjustly; these are teenagers and/or severely undersocialized prisoners preyed on by older men) condemned as the lover of his right hand man?
Tumblr media
Better get your story straight.
Daeron the Good was creating a dynasty of racial tolerance
[Citation Needed] That’s why Tanselle Too Tall got justice for her broken fingers, yeah?
…and eventually Tyroshi via Kiera of Tyrosh
Don’t use the Tyroshi as an example of Da3ron’s “racial tolerance” dynastic heirs when he, his descendants, and Bl00draven set out to kill Rohanne of Tyrosh’s children and grandchildren with Daemon Blackfyre.
His heirs were wise and would rule as well as he did.

out of all of King Viserys’ children, Rhaenyra is obviously the most qualified/most competent to sit the Iron Throne. There is no question about that.
Excuse me what?😂 Are you fr? If yes can you please give me a reason why she's the most suitable to sit on Iron throne? Because she's rightful heir? I'm sorry but that's not good enough. We have many Targaryen rulers and they were rightful heir, but you know... they fucked up, so it's not a convincing reason.
Actually she was the only one who wasn't suitable to sit on iron throne. Like we literally saw that, she fucked up so bad in half of a year that even her sons didn't denied what she did and literally there's no Rhaenyra after her, she was a disgrace for her future generations, that's says alot.
She was so bad that she was kicked out, people were tired of her. And then Aegon come and gets everything under his control in like a week while he was physical dead.
The funniest part is that all of green kids actually have something that make them more suitable than Rhaenyra.
First we got Aegon, he's brave, resilient, determined, he's smarter than Rhaenyra, he's protective and he's mentally the strongest and unbreakable. He survived the worst things and still continue. He was literally unbreakable, even towards the end of his life he gained the strength to walk, hardly but yes.
Then we have Helaena. She was a lovely and kind woman, she claimed one of the most badass dragons in the history when she was a kid, she was so loved that people literally gone mad after her death, that's say a lot about the difference between Rhaenyra and Helaena.
Next is Aemond. Smart, brave, a dangerous fighter and he have the biggest fucking dragon that he claimed when he was a kid. Do I need to say more?
And finally Daeron. Oh lord, this guy was smart as fuck and he was the most dangerous even though he was the youngest, he's also brave and loyal to his family. And people actually liked him. He was a fairly kind, clever, and humble guy. Definitely the best among Viserys’ sons.
Now what does Rhaenyra have that makes her comparable to them? What does she have that make her better?
Her age? The fact that she's first born?
Well that's just another reason why she don't deserve to sit on the throne, because she was heir since she was 8 yet she never fit into her position as one in so many years (25 years).
On the other hand Aegon never was heir so he never tried to fit but we see how in a short time (2 years or shorter) he grows and fit his position as king, we see how he live up to his title.
I'm sorry but even the fact that she's first born make her more pathetic.
This amount of delusional is not normal. I'm telling y'all.

It's sad but also hilarious how Viserys actively created 4 kids and pursued a young girl for that purpose, only to expect that they match up to the ghosts of baby Baelon and Aemma. Damn bro. I hate him even more now.

... she never made an effort... she only ever furthered herself from her siblings... she only made herself look like a threat, having it made clear viserys would always favor her, protecting her lies at the risk of others, after abandoning her mother when she needed her most, and used and lied to her, hurting her more than she already was from Viserys, for her own benefit (not to mention her manipulative father buried those thoughts deep in her mind while she was still a CHILD herself)... she had every reason to "hate" (fear) Rhaenyra and in her attempts to protect her children, extend that fear/hatred to them. even then, outside of Aemond (justifiably, considering she felt entitled to his eye and wanted to have him tortured) none of them even really hated her until the dance, at the very most, they felt resentful because their father loved her 10x more than he loved all 4 (including Daeron) of them combined, and at the very least, they felt nothing as she was never there, never mattered to their lives outside of court and politics.
this take is shit. Rhaenyra never cared. she never wanted her siblings in her life. she felt entitled to Aemond's eye, and you want to tell me she gave a shit, not even enough to spare her 10 year old brother, over an insult?
(and before you bring up her call for her siblings to come bend the knee, we know how she can kiss up and lie through her teeth in times of need, her words hold little backing. see it as truth if you want, but I can't trust it, not with how she's acted previously.)

Nobody can convince me Viserys loved Aemma. I don't care what nobody says. I'm not listening. I don't wanna hear it.
And I know Aemma probably in the Seven Heavens fuming- cause imagine your husband murdered you for a son and then later on he gets three sons and neglected them.
HE GETS THREE OF WHAT HE MURDERED YOU FOR AND THEN NEGELCTS THEM!
Viserys deserved the slow death that he got. Infact, it wasn't slow or painful enough.

99.999% of arguments used against rhaenyra are the definition of bullshit btw
why should i give a shit about the random man DAEMON killed to use as laenor’s body double when alicent was complicit in the murders of named characters like lyonel and harwin? or the brothel house that she had larys burn down (that most likely had innocent women and children inside)? or when criston murdered joffrey (over him trying to broker a deal with him)? or when aegon sexually harassed serving girls as a teen and we see the aftermath of him raping dyana as an adult? or when aemond murdered luke over a debt that he claimed had already been paid AND singlehandedly started a war that killed thousands?
idgaf about the nameless extra that only had 30 secs of screen time get over yourself

Jacaerys Velaryon, a Prince of questionable parentage (whether it be true or false), turned out to be 10 times the man/leader than any one of Alicent’s “trueborn” sons (Aegon the Usurper, Aemond One-Eye, and Daeron the Useless) could ever be.
- confirmed by Green biased Maesters as well.
I love how GRRM addresses the issue of parentage here, and shows how children born under questionable circumstances can rise to be better than children born “the correct way”.
It also shows how simple-minded people in the Middle Ages used to be, believing that only children born from a sanctified union, could ever be worth something.
It’s not a coincidence that GRRM made Rhaenyra’s sons good, well-mannered, brave and loyal, while Alicent’s sons are all despicable, rude, anger-driven, and overall huge disappointments (yes, Daeron too. He ended up showing his true colors. Bitterbridge never forgets).

HotD Team Green Defense
The amount of people who fail to grasp Team Green's perspective is honestly staggering to me. So many people are Team Black, maybe out of some (misplaced) belief that they are being feminists and advocating for female power, or something like that, and choose to ignore the very legitimate worries and motivations of Team Green. Admittedly, the show has gone out of it's way to villainize Team Green as much as possible, while victimizing Team Black, and deviating from the source material for this narrative. (I would tell them to be suspicious when showrunners do that because they did the same thing to Daenerys in GoT and everyone was surprised when she turned around and burned a city down in a rushed ending because the show never properly developed her arc.) Nevertheless, despite their efforts to make Team Green the less appealing side, if I had to compare motivations, Team Black is the more villainous.
So many people dismiss the fact that for Rhaenyra to secure her throne, she would have to kill her siblings. They write it off as paranoia of Alicent, or ambitions of her and Otto, that they are making excuses for Aegon to be made king instead of Rhaenyra. But that's just not true. These are very real likelihoods. Even if Aegon did not seek the throne, or he and his brothers decided to gracefully allow the succession to pass to Rhaenyra, it would never be peaceful. Just look at Rhaenys and how Corlys is still bitter and Viserys has been worried that they may come after him since she has a right to the throne. That's one of the main benefits in having Rhaenyra marry Ser Laenor was to join their claims. Or look at how worried everyone was of Daemon, and how he may seize power after Viserys. The only thing keeping him alive was his brother's love for him, the fact that their house was dwindling, and no one was fighting on his behalf over Viserys. So if there is every another claimant, it would be a great worry that the side in power may be kicked off by another claimant. And Aegon and his brothers are men, and just by virtue of having dicks, they have a better claim to the throne. All laws, precedent, and cultures in Westeros have male heirs before female heirs. The king's word does not change that. And note that the King only made Rhaenyra his heir over his brother. So technically, the King said "all my children first, including my daughter, then my brother." (Something already controversial because if it was accepted before, Rhaenys would be Queen and he would be nothing). But he never again made a statement for the lords after his sons births. He never reinforced Rhaenyra's succession as his heir outside the privacy of their own quarters. Alicent even said, let the lords come and decide, and make vows, and he and Rhaenyra reject it because they worried the Lords would choose Aegon.
Rhaenyra knows, to inherit without rebellions every few years from lords who are unhappy with her and want to supplant her with her brothers, she would have to kill her brothers and make sure there are no people who can contest her right to inherit.
And this is just Rhaenyra's succession. Now add in the fact that she's claiming illegitimate children as her heirs. Very obvious illegitimate children. Even if Rhaenyra managed to successfully inherit with no push back from anyone, and no one wanted to supplant her with her brothers so she didn't have to kill them then... well guess what, she'll have to kill them to secure her son's ascension to the throne. (And if she won't then Daemon certainly would). And then, even if she does kill all the Greens, then there's the issue of her legitimate children vs. her illegitimate children. Even if the kids grew up to love each other, someone may say, well the first three shouldn't inherit, let's put the legitimate ones on the throne. And then you have a completely different succession crisis.
Viserys' actions may seem to the viewers as promoting girl power and feminism, but that's not what's happening. He's being an abusive, neglectful shit. He's deliberately putting the rest of his children's lives in jeopardy, and even the Strong grandchildren he claims to love, because by keeping them in the succession despite their obvious illegitimacy invites people to contest that. And that's not to say he couldn't have taken steps to remedy this. He could have changed the rules so that succession passes to the eldest child, regardless of gender. But he didn't. He could have acknowledged that his grandchildren were illegitimate and forgiven it and legitimized them as Targaryens, but he didn't (conveniently usurping Valeryons - and people may argue that Baela/ Rhaena can still rule being married to Jace/Luke, but that's not the same as being able to rule in your own right, otherwise, why not take the offer for Rhaenyra to marry Aegon).
But since he didn't do any of these things, the only way to stop the Dance would have been for him to make Aegon his successor. Something that everyone would have been relieved by because it would have prevented war. But he didn't. And so, Alicent has to fight to keep her kids alive. The Greens have to push their claim to survive. Whereas, had Rhaenyra graciously backed off her claim, saying that yes, she had 3 brothers, and while they were younger, the laws and precedent are in their corner to inherit, then she would have lived. People wouldn't have fought for her claim if she hadn't pushed it. Nor would they fight for an illegitimate heir.
But some may say... Well Rhaenyra has more supporters. She does. She has the Velaryons and countless other houses backing her. So do the Greens. (the Greens have the wealthiest houses). But once it becomes a fight to throne, it's less about who has the right, and more about who can offer you the most. Notice the Starks and the Baratheons agree to fight because they'll get a wedding out of it (and the Starks because they'll have somewhere to send people during their current famine). The Vale because of the blood ties. The Lannisters because of past insults. Once it's decided to be a fight, it's never about who actually has a right to the throne, it becomes about who can give you the most so you can help them win it.
And this is what it really comes down to. Rhaenyra had a choice. She can back off, and her family can survive. Her brothers can live. Her sons will live. Or she can inherit, and her brothers can die. And she is perfectly willing for her brothers to die. And some may say that that's a very jaded view to take on Rhaenyra and she would never kill her family if she could help it... but it would be out of her hands. It would be necessary to protect her son's right to inherit and to keep away possible rebellions.
And you know, fine, that's okay. She wants to fight for the throne, more power to her. She can go after the throne and kill her brothers. But I don't think it's right that people say that she's the aggrieved party. She's not. She's the aggressor.
And that is why I'm team Green. Because Alicent is right. Just by living and breathing, Aegon and his brothers are threats to Rhaenyra. And this would have happened no matter who Viserys married. Sure people can be upset that Alicent married her bffs dad (something that only happens in the show because in the books, Alicent is 10 years older than Rhaenyra and they weren't close), but that doesn't mean her children should die because Rhaenyra is the preferred child. That doesn't mean the realm should be thrown into war because Alicent 'seduced' a widow. (And I say that with heavy sarcasm because Viserys is a grown ass man.)
And then there's the argument of who's the better house because of blood purity. It's a ridiculous argument and I'm honestly annoyed by people who are Targaryen purists and believe in the whole, dragon supremacy. Hightower is badass house. A lot of people don't realize that they've been around since The Wall and Winterfell were built (Bran the Builder built Hightower, commissioned by the Lord / King of Hightower). They've been around since before Targaryen's rode dragons. So spare me the ridiculous arguments of who's got the most Targaryen blood. If anything, Team Green is more Westerosi, you know, the country they are trying to rule.
In the end, the show will do what it does best, and disappoint you. Either they'll continue pushing this narrative of girl-boss queen and fail to show the complexity of the political situation that result from Rhaenyra's decisions. Or they might stick to the book and have a complex issue actually displayed and show both Aegon and Rhaenyra's descent into madness.
There are more issues one could delve into. Like the fact that Rhaenyra married Daemon. That either Corlys Velaryon has so much unhinged ambition that he's ignored deaths in his house to side with those who have literally murdered his family (cough cough Vaemond and Laenor) (and the whole Laenor excuse in the show makes no sense because no way in hell are Rhaenyra and Daemon risking that he's ever found and that their kids are declared bastards; it is much cleaner for them to do it like they did in the books and kill him) or there will be serious repercussions from the deaths of Velaryons and continued discussion of the succession of Driftmark/High Tide.
But that's the main summary of my thoughts. 👍
If you made it to the end of my rant. Thank you.

"Addison Hill? The White Owl, Michael Mertyns? Jeffory Norcross? They called him Neveryield. Red Robert Flowers? What can you tell me of them?"
"Flowers is a bastard name. So is Hill."
"Yet both men rose to command the Kingsguard...” —AFFC Jaime II
“Daemon was no more pious than a king need be, and all the great knights of the realm gathered to him. It would suit Lord Bloodraven if their names were all forgotten, so he has forbidden us to sing of them, but I remember. Robb Reyne, Gareth the Grey, Ser Aubrey Ambrose, Lord Gormon Peake, Black Byren Flowers, Redtusk, Fireball . . . Bittersteel! I ask you, has there ever been such a noble company, such a roll of heroes?” —The Sworn Sword
GRRM has used brothers supporting different sides of a war a few times (Donnel and Balon Swann during WOT5K, Arryk and Erryk Cargyll during the Dance of the Dragons), and at least one either was or later joined the Kingsguard. So I’m wondering if maybe Red Robert and Black Byren Flowers were brothers. A few houses of the Reach supported both sides of the First Blackfyre Rebellion, such as the Hightowers and Oakhearts, and maybe they were the sons of a (probably) father from that house. Then there’s the nicknames Red and Black, which would indicate which Flower brother fought for which side. Then later on Robert joined the Kingsguard (considering Da3ron II’s support of the anti-illegitimate children High Septon, as well as his actions toward his own half-siblings, I can’t imagine him naming a Flowers to the Kingsguard), and eventually becoming Lord Commander due to seniority. What became of Black Byren we don’t know, but I like to think he made it to Essos and eventually founded House Mudd. It shows the differences in how the Reds and Blacks felt toward illegitimate children as well; with one honored warrior riding out in support for another and following his family into exile, able to start a family in a place/occupation that doesn’t stigmatize illegitimate children; while his hypothetical brother supported the king and was later rewarded with a position serving his family, but his deeds aren’t well known (Loras doesn’t know who he is) and he left no familial legacy either. I also like the warring brothers motif because it brings some pathos to the conflict, which the Targaryens of all the Blackfyre Rebellions desperately need, as there’s no divided loyalties or lost family for them.

ok, so i've been getting a lot of "rhaenyra would never kill her siblings" asks recently.
first of all, no one is saying that rhaenyra WANTS to kill her brothers. but there's just no way that a woman & a bastard can inherit peacefully when 3 legitimate sons (with legitimate sons of their own) exist. this is not how westerosi politics work. the men in power wants to keep the men in power, this is the definition of patriarchy. and i'm not saying that's a good thing - because obvs it's not - but that's the truth. westeros is a patriarchal society.
the lords of westeros - the men in power - wants to preserve the existing order. legitimate sons inherit over daughters, bastards can't inherit. it's important to them because their own power is dependent on this very system. let's say rhaenyra becomes queen, and all of the sudden other firstborn daughters start to stand up and demand to be named heirs to their houses . let's say jace becomes the prince of dragonstone, and suddenly bastards that are older then their legitimate siblings start to demand their rights as well. from our modern pov - that's a great thing, but for the lords of westeros that's literally their worst nightmare.
"but a lot of houses supported rhaenyra". true! i'm not saying every lord in westeros will not accept her, i'm saying some of them def won't, and as long as aegon\aemond\daeron lives, there will always be someone advocating for their rights - and that's dangerous for rhaenyra and her family. so yeah, to protect herself and her children she will 100% kill her brothers. i'm not holding it against her - she's obvs going to care more about her children & herself then her brothers.
"but dorne ..." i feel like GRRM has made it abundantly clear that westeros does not want to become like dorne. dornish people are stereotyped and discriminated against - especially dornish women, that are viewed as promiscuous and are constantly oversexualized. westeros becoming like dorne is def not something westerosi men want.
ironically, jace will have to face the exact same situation with his own brothers aegon and viserys, but i digress.
also, did we forget how easily rhaenyra offered to have her 10yo brother tortured when she felt like her children were in danger? do you guys really believe that she's above murdering to protect them?

It was pretty expectable, cause I knew the showrunners will splurge on the graphics, but I'm still disappointed and upset with Aemond wearing the eye-patch in season 2.
Imagine the symbolism we could have. He puts off the patch and shows to everyone his sapphire eye as a reminder of why Luke was murdered. A reminder of why this war would start no matter they wanted or not. Rhaenyra and her bastards were always the threat to Green children, that became obvious the day Aemond lost an eye and no one was punished for that. Some of them have to die so the others could rule. There is no middle ground.

Viserys : I want Rhaenyra to succeed me as queen as she's my eldest living child. If anyone dares to object my decision they'll be charged with treason!
Also Viserys: *Marries another woman and has sons by her who could have a better claim that Rhae's for the Lords. Doesn't legally change the law of succession to absolute primogeniture, thus treating Rhaenyra's status as heir like a one time exception. Doesn't do anything to prevent her from having bastards so her position is even shakier than before. Doesn't teach her how to rule properly and allowes her to do as she pleases. Appoints Otto Hightower as hand even though he's known for being a schemer and generally a shady guy who obviously favors his grandson for the throne. Lets her marry her unstable uncle who's the reason he named her heir in the first place*
Half of Westeros: *understandably doesn't accept her and supports her brother instead, thus starting a devastating civil war*
Viserys from the seven hells:
