This compiles all the canon posts. My headcanons are separate from this list to avoid any confusion but you can find it linked along with the other individual posts below.

Like in the individual posts, the list has the country of origins next to each item and any relevant information. Such as ingredients, use, notes, or trivia. Birch - The inner bark can be dried and used to make bread flour. Strips of the inner bark could be eaten raw or boiled like noodles. The sap was edible directly from the tree or boiled down into a slightly sweet syrup.

The sap is high in vitamins a and c and has been used to fend off scurvy in the past. The sap can be drunk as a tea in the spring.

Alphas and their Candles headcanons

Because there is like almost no cute fluffy Alpha instincts in this fandom/hj

Loosely based on actual dog/wolf behaviors

- Alphas in my verse have a unique gene component where they react to the scented Wax from the Anise plant. Which in my verse isn’t common but isn’t rare either

- Anise Candles are very popular among Alphas! Every Alpha’s inner den has something Anise related, as it is important to their development. Just like Omegas nesting is crucial to theirs

- Anise is often mixed with other smells to mellow it out due to being very powerful. To anyone else it smells like licorice mixed with sugar. To Alphas it smells like cane sugar, roots and caramel

- Due to being high on the market they are expensive depending on how strong the anise scent is in there. Hence why many Alphas may just have a plain anise plant or a very mellowed candle

- Alphas will become energetic but also slow and relaxed. It is hard to explain but the affects/effects is like being very active but at the same time their attitude is one that is sluggish. (In a good way)

- Alpha Kiddies/Pups L O V E Anise!

- Due to the expensive-ness and uncommonness for strong anise candles, they often won’t light them and just smell them.

- Connected to the slight uncommonness and expensive-ness they are very very protective of their candles

- If an Alpha is deprived of anise for a while or all their life their sense of smell that can detect scents is nulled. Thus not allowing an Alpha to properly detect a type of scent and attitude in an individual. Which often leads to anger and frustration

- Back around the 1860′s up until the 1980′s the government would deprive their soldiers of the scent due to believing they’d be less scent driven and easier to control. Parents would also do this for the same reason.

-It only works for a certain amount of time, studies shown. Complete deprivation for their entire life leads to senses connected to detecting scent and pheromones being like those of a small pup. Which may cause developmental problems. Deprivation for months at a time causes the same symptoms, though a little less severe, but with an extreme anger, fear and frustration.

- One of the greatest gifts an Alpha can give you is one of their anise candles. It’s a rare occurrence though, even among couples. Though that doesn’t mean the couples don’t love eachother

- Alphas have small candle shops dedicated to them sprinkled around the world. - Betas and Omegas who court an Alpha will often gift them a candle or plant with anise in it. It is sometimes seen as a taboo and sometimes isn’t depending on the circumstances

- Alpha’s who court other Alphas and gives them a candle is often seen as pandering

a character being static isn’t a bad thing, or it doesn’t have to be. Asch is a static character for most of Abyss. But that’s to set him up to parallel Luke’s growth.

Luke evolves and grows throughout Tales of the Abyss, learning and expanding his view of himself and other people. Asch, on the other hand, refuses to move past what happened to him or even consider other people’s points of view. The original is the one who is stuck while the replica becomes a more rounded human being.

people being stuck in their past is actually a common theme in the game. Every single member of Van’s team is unable to let go and move beyond something.

Van cannot move past what happened to Hod. In fact, he inflicts the same trauma on Luke by forcing him to destroy Azkeriuth with hyperresonance the same way he was forced to destroy Hod.

Legretta can’t let go of her brother’s death at Van’s hands. She essentially loses herself and becomes little more than a mouthpiece for Van’s ideas.

Largo sees Sylvia everywhere. even when the daughter he lost, the only LIVING part of his wife that’s left, appears before him… He still won’t stop. He tells himself his daughter is dead, when she’s not.

Dist clings to the past so hard that he’s made himself delusional. He tells himself his childhood was amazing and wonderful (it wasn’t) and that Jade will return to normal if only Nebilim were still alive (he won’t). Dist rejects the very concept of growth and change.

Sync never actually left Mt. Zaleho. Physically, yes, but mentally he’s trapped as the failed replica with no future and no hope. The Score, at least, gives people a place to belong. A life to live that’s theirs. The Score has nothing for Sync.

Arietta refuses to let go of Ion. She refuses to believe that the boy she’d known for six years would suddenly decide he didn’t want to be around her. It has to be Anise forcing him to do this—somehow.

Happy Storyteller Saturday! Are there any characters outside of the SolCorp higher-ups who you think would be good in charge of one of the departments? Anyone who could single handedly bring about the fall of the company if they had to fill in for a weekend?

Happy STS! Thank you for asking such an interesting question!

I think if things had unfolded differently, Anise could have easily run the Saturn department. That's definitely her dream and she's driven and capable af, she's an amazing spy (often smarter than the writers, which gives us a lot of grief haha). For that matter, in another life, Reeve might have been able to do the same thing and do it really well. I could also see him actually being capable of running Mercury-- as much as we drag him, he's got a good head for the big picture.

I could also see Alex being a surprisingly good leader, though I'm not sure which department he'd fit into. He definitely has Things To Say about where Neptune can shove it and what they should change. Depending on which alternate reality we're in, I could see him either reforming them into something new and less police-y/more restorative and protective or, under the right circumstances and if he set his mind to it, he could bring about the fall of the company through sheer willpower and pigheadedness alone.

Darwin would be a great candidate to run Terre's school counseling division, but he'd never believe he was capable of it and I'm not sure he'd enjoy leadership.

As far as single handedly bringing about the fall of the company? Misha would bring it down on purpose if given the chance (probably with a lot of explosives). Lee would likely bring the whole thing crashing down because he'd been up all night at a party and forgot to take care of the basic needs of a company that wants to stay in business. And Fox, while capable, if he were ever promoted to department head, he might just let everything fall apart so he can stop working so hard. Haha

Happy STS! Genuinely so curious about this: who are your favorite and least favorite POV characters in Sunset? Not necessarily your fav/least fav *characters,* but the characters whose perspective you like to write in most and least - whether it's because their voice comes most naturally to you, is more challenging, the character has similar/different views to your own, etc. Would also love to hear why if you're so inclined.

Thank you so much for this amazing question, friend! It sparked a lot of fun discussion at Sunset HQ. (My co-writer's answer to this question is here if anyone wants to compare.)

My least favorite characters to write include Darwin, Fredericka, Adler, and Alex/Joey. (Isn't Alex one of your main characters? Yes. Yes, he sure is.)

Darwin: It's hard to say why actually. I struggle to relate to this adorable cinnamon roll. He's just so *good*. I connect more with characters that have a bit of bite to them.

Adler: On the other end of the spectrum, our Big Bad, Adler, is one of my least favorites to write not because it's challenging, but because it's not. And then I get to face how sadistic and twisted my brain can get. Writing Adler means I need to think like him and it's unnerving when his voice (and his cruelty) comes to me easily.

Fredericka: She's so controlled and not at all expressive. She doesn't get outwardly messy. This puts a lot of her scenes heavy on introspection, which is a slog for me to write.

Alex: He's become easier to write over the years (thank god) but I struggle to feel confident in my ability to master his voice. My co-writer is really the source of Alex's voice and I am doing my best to do him justice in my drafts.

Most favorite POVs to write is much easier: Reeve, Marek, Hannah, and Anise.

Reeve: What can I say about Reeve? He's my baby. As a character, he is uncooperative and tight-lipped so it took a long time for his voice to come easily, but he's just so...him. He fucks up a lot. He has the social skills of a doorstop. But what gets me in the gut every time is how hard he tries. If nothing else, Reeve is trying to do what he thinks is right and protect the people he loves. He puts his whole self into that.

Marek: He's a blast to write. It's just a fun time. Putting myself in his brain to write is a one-way ticket to being in a better mood afterward. He loves everyone, wants to make everyone's life better, and isn't scared to be goofy.

Hannah: She knows who she is and she doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks about it. The shit she says can be downright bizarre but her voice is still the most effortless for me so sometimes if I get stuck on a scene I default to her perspective if I can and change it later. (And I'll get real here. If you stack Reeve, Marek, and Hannah in a trench coat, you pretty much get me.)

Anise: I find writing Anise very challenging because she's so clever and exacting and there is absolutely nothing casual about her. I'm on my toes the whole time because if there's anything at all to pick up on, she's picking up on it and thinking four steps ahead about it. Woman does not know how to relax. But it's a challenge I love and enjoy because it's so satisfying when I can pull it off. Plus I just adore her so much as a character and her character arc is dear to my heart.

#I half expected my entire favorites list would be telepaths but just 2/4.#Fox and Emmett are two honorable mentions for favorites but they are so loud as characters that I barely feel like I can take credit #for writing them. Some WTTT New Mexico Headcanons

I’ve lived in like 8 states in my life so I figured I’d do some WTTT headcanons based on my experiences living in each of them. First up is New Mexico bc I love him.

I’m not a native New Mexican, and as such, there are definitely cultural subtleties I’m sure I missed. Please let me know if there’s anything you would add or change! Also, I’m pretty sure a few of these things are already canon in WTTT but hey...)

· He bonds with Nevada about alien/government conspiracy theories. (Have he and Nevada ever interacted in canon? I can’t remember…but if they do, it should be about aliens. Or nukes.)

· New Mexico is very matter-of-fact, almost too casual about his supernatural observations. Like yeah, he saw some weird grey dudes in a spaceship abduct a cow, but that’s just a Tuesday in Burque, no? He’s seen weirder…

· He complains whenever the humidity reaches 30% or higher. (Florida is extremely confused by this, refusing to believe that the humidity can get lower than 50%)

· He doesn’t really care about being on time to things. His philosophy is that “I’ll get there when I get there.”

· He’s okay with simplicity and tradition. He doesn’t really seek out drastic change, and he’s okay with doing things the way he’s always done them because “if it works, it works, no?” As a result, he’s very down-to-earth and had a lot of pride in himself and his people.

· He’s a really good cook, and he doesn’t just make chile. Some of his other staple foods include posole (hominy), calabacitas (sauteed zucchini and summer squash), carne adovada (pork marinated in red chile), sopapillas (pillow shaped fried pastry served with honey), and biscochitos (a crisp butter cookie flavored with sugar, cinnamon, and anise).

· He will get BIG MAD if you call any of the above recipes “Mexican food.”

· He loves f***ing with people. He’s a huge prankster and will NOT hesitate to shit-talk you in front of everyone. (But in a friendly way)

· His politics are hard to classify. He’s known as a “blue state” but he’s not particularly liberal. He’s pretty cynical about politics, believing wholeheartedly that the U.S. government is corrupt and he has to look out for himself because no one else will (historically, he’s not wrong). Most of his political beliefs come from that undercurrent of defiance.

· He has no idea what a “Cardi B” is, but jams música nuevo mexicana and Selena on the regular. He also loves classic rock. (Blame Route 66 nostalgia.)

· He doesn’t say much to the other states outside of his circle, but he loves to chat for hours with people he knows well. It’s kind of a cliché, but he literally does know pretty much everyone… and their mom, and their grandma, and their dog, and all their great-uncles going back 5 generations…

· He’s pretty chill and laid-back most of the time, but the following things inevitably make him *BIG MAD*

-Anyone (looking at you, Colorado) that dares to call his chile inferior.

-Getting compared to Mexico/being called Mexican.

-Texas, in general. For reasons.

-Breaking Bad references (It gets old.)

-People who try to whitewash NM’s history or culture/people that forget he existed for literal centuries before 1912.

· He’s a member of the “cool flag club.” He’s not quite as obsessed with his flag as Maryland is, but almost. Don’t let his comment in his “welcome” episode fool you; he already has at least 5 Zia sun tattoos. He conveniently ignores the fact that it’s technically cultural appropriation.

· He creates many kinds of art and his work is extremely quirky. When asked to explain the thought process behind his art, he’ll say something like “I dunno, it came to me in a dream, man.”

· He actually doesn’t hate Colorado. Besides the chile rivalry, they get along relatively well. He definitely gives off cynical big brother vibes, with Colorado being the ditzy little brother whose head is always (literally and figuratively) in the clouds. New Mexico thinks Colorado is kind of an idiot, but in an affectionate way. NM loves shit-talking him (see above) but half the time it goes way over Colorado’s head.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

It's so hard to choose....I think in terms of game canon the fact that he really does not give up and keeps surviving (sluriving, even) despite everything. In terms of overall canon including the bonus manga I really love his genuine affection for Anise...I think he sees a lot of himself as a former bullied kid in Anise age 11 getting bullied for being poor and being chosen as Ion's Fon Master Guardian. Love that he made Tokunaga for her I think it's a simple but excellent way of showing he is capable of change and has nuance to him!!

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Everyone wants to know about my rage and hate.....I think again (similar to the last ask I answered with an 8) I really don't like when Dist is oversimplified! He's got a pathetic streak a mile wide but he's also really, REALLY smart and he's got rage!!! He's got anger!!! If I had to pick one though I think it would be the genius thing I feel like it's often glossed over (especially when compared directly to Jade) that Dist is just as smart when it comes to pure numbers and though weaker in certain areas is also stronger in others (such as fontech)!

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you write this character? What's something you don't like?

I LOOOOOOOOVE MAKING THIS BITCH BLIND. you know he is not wearing those glasses just bc of fonic sight or whatever he has PISS POOR VISION. JUST LIKE ME.

mmmm...i've written so much of him.....what is something i don't like....traveling? dist is the worst to travel with and i have to keep track of what outfits he's in for my own peace of mind

i like when people write him with depth!!! he has a lot of facets i like when people acknowledge that...conversely i don't like when they flatten him into one or two traits

oh i loved him as soon as i saw him and my life was forever changed. now i can approach him with a lot more nuance and thought!!!

“I suppose you have sent for me to gloat that my son is a traitor.” The former queen said as her guards brought her into Aemma’s chambers.

“No, I asked you here so you can meet someone.” Aemma orders for her chains to be removed and had tea brought for them.

Aemon stirred in her arms as if he knew he had been mentioned.

“This is Aemon, your grandson.” She offers him to her and the queen refuses to even look at her only living grandson.

“I am sorry about Maelor, and Jaehaerys.” The princess of Dragonstone gave her condolences softly. “If I had known it would happen, I would done everything to stop it.”

Alicent’s face hardens at the words. “Would you? Their deaths left the path open for you and my traitorous son to steal my Aegon’s crown.”

“Have I ever given you reason to think that of me?” Aemma asked her goodmother, shocked that she would even think that.

“If it were not for you, Helaena’s children would still be alive.” The woman spat and the baby began to cry as her voice rose in anger and pain. “If you had not escaped that night, Aemond would have killed those men. If you hadn’t bewitched my son, he would be here raining fire and blood on your whore mother and my enemies!”

Everything is always Aemma’s fault.

Since the moment Aemma was old enough to remember, Alicent has always blamed her and her mother for everything that has gone to shit in her life.

“Take Aemon,” Aemma orders the handmaid who leaves the tea and the anise bread and takes the baby with great urgency.

“It should be you who dies. I should have killed you when I had the chance.” Alicent grabs the letter opener Aemma forgot on the side table and runs at her like she ran at her mother long ago in Driftmark.

But Aemma is quicker and grabs the nearest object to defend herself.

And so, armed with only a bronze statuette of the Mother, Aemma swings as hard as she can at the mad woman attacking her.

“I killed her!” Aemma cries as her guards break into the sitting room and see Alicent Hightower bleeding to death with her brown eyes staring lifelessly at her. “I killed her.”

Once upon a time Addam had a childish dream about becoming a great seafarer like the Seasnake and earn his way into the Princess’ heart.

A foolish fantasy he had ever since he was nine and she had given him her spinning top and a kiss on the cheek.

Then his mother took him aside and at three and ten he learned such feelings were improper, not because he was the baseborn son of a peasant woman, but because she was his sister.

Targaryens wed brother and sister, he had said before mother boxed his ears and told him not to fly too close to the sun lest he crash and burn into the sea.

But then he had seen her dancing in some festival in Hull. Dancing with her cousins and brothers and whatever suitor had lost his chance with her.

They were five and ten, her beauty bringing men from everywhere to see if they could win her hand.

He had danced with her, feeling clumsy even when he had known these country dances since he was old enough to dance with his mother and cousins.

Addam had wanted to steal a kiss from her as the heroes in the stories do, to steal her heart and fly as close to the sun as he could.

But he hadn’t, in that last moment he remembered the girl was his own sister and pledged to the mystery boy who gave her the sapphire.

This time, he kissed her, felt her warm and pressed against him and willing to let him to what he wanted to her.

But she was married, she was his sister and he couldn’t dishonor her like that.

“I need to leave.” Addam told his grandfather.

“Why? Has court life already bored you?” The Seasnake asked guessing half of the reason he needed to leave.

While he hated all the rules and pomp, he new it was a necessary evil.

“I acted improperly with a lady.” He says vaguely and hopes his grandfather does not pry.

“You could just court her properly, you know.” There was a sense of relief and even pride in the old man’s eyes that Addam knows will leave the moment he tells him the name.

“I do not think I can, she is married.” And my own sister, married to the man flying the largest dragon in the world.

The conversation comes to an end when Ser Harrold’s squire comes running to them. A Darklyn boy without the stamina to run about the Red Keep unlike the other boys serving as squires, pages and cupbearers to the knights and other courtiers.

“It’s the princess, someone attacked her and the baby!” the boy wheezed as he delivered his message.

He gets there first, forgetting his place and knowing whatever chance of keeping his attraction to Aemma a secret has flown out the window.

“I killed her.” Aemma shakes as the wetnurse takes the baby away and a handmaid wiped away the splatters of blood on her. “I killed her. I killed her.”

Its then they see who the woman under the bloody sheet is.

“She attacked the princess and the princess defended herself, there was a letter opener still in her hands when the Maester was called.” Drake filled them in and Addam struggled against the part of him that wanted to go to Aemma and comfort her. “Goodwife Fiona came to us after one of the princess’ handmaids was told to take the little prince to safety.”

“Has the Queen been told?” the Seasnake and Hand of the Queen took care of the messy business.

“Yes, my squire was to fetch her after bringing you.” Darke answered and both men begun considering their next step.

Addam goes to her and she does not hesitate to throw her arms around him as he comforted her.

“I killed her, I killed her.” She says over and over again and she cried into his shoulder.

“You only did to protect yourself, its over, Aemma.” He comforts his sister until the queen arrives.

Instead of running to her only daughter, the queen runs to the corpse and cries for the woman who ruined all their lives.

“The Queen is dead, Princess Aemma murdered her claiming she attacked her and the child.” Criston fails at keeping himself neutral.

Of course, the dornish knight would assume that was a lie and that Aemma, sweet Aemma who used to cry every time someone was sentenced to death, killed her in cold blood.

“Mother was not well after what happened, Cole. I would not put it past her to try and hurt Aemma.” Aemond defended his wife against his mentor and surrogate father. “Gods know she has always blamed her for everything. Likely believed Aemma was behind Maelor’s death.”

“I suppose you know her highness better than I.” the lord commander bowed to his judgment begrudgingly, something he did more often now.

“What other news do you have?” Aemond knew his death was soon, each night he dreamt of drowning in the river and taking Aemma down with him.

“Two of the Usurper Queen’s dragonseeds have turned on her and have joined Prince Daeron who marches to Kingslanding, your highness. I propose we take what is left of our men, gather supporters and attack from two fronts.” Cole was good, and perhaps would have won the war, but this was a war no one was meant to win.

The Blacks had faced countless losses despite their victories and the Greens were fucked the moment they put a crown on Aegon.

“She still has five more, Cole. We will die before we even reach the Kingsroad.” The prince pointed out to the Dornishman’s annoyance. “If she had not refused my conditions, we could have had a chance.”

Between Rhaenyra’s knights inquisitor scouring every rock and crevice for Aegon Daemon sighted at Maidenpool two days ago, Aemond knew the sand on the hourglass was on its last grains.

Also, I fucking can't. The way Ohtaka draws expressions. Like, Alibaba looks borderline traumatized, but look at Cassim. You literally can't tell what his feelings are. Is it fondness? Is it pity? Is he scheming? Insnae. You sense all three if not more.

I don't even know for what I am in pain here, bro. Is it because of Cassim lying about his dead sister, or about the heartbreak Alibaba's about to exprience in a few months.

Also, the fact that Alibaba gets betrayed over and over again by the people he loves, ugh.

"Admiration". But is it admiration. What is this. I love how ambiguous Cassim's feelings are. Is iat admiration? Is it fondness? Alibaba didn't change at all? Is it disappointment? Does he think Alibaba's a moron? Tbh, in most cases my money is on "All of the above". It's an interesting thing abt Alibaba, or rather how certain people (like Cassim or Hakuryuu) feel about him. They love him and hate him at the same time, want him to stay by their side and get lost, they want him brought down to whatever they perceive their own level to be, at least, and they want him to remain untainted & keep shining so brightly. It's such a... mess. I really love it about these relationships. That being said, it genuinely sucks to be Alibaba there, because of all these mixed signals they give him all the time. That weird pedestal they put him on, and now they're mad about it. To paraphrase, he's not responsible for what they believe him to be, and yet they make him pay for it.

On a different note, I love the wording. "Cassim didn't have to hear that much, but Cassim didn't need to hear that much." Foreboding.

The fact that Alibaba only began seeing Rashid as more than a unreachable figure is after he'd admitted that he loved Anise. He actually says next page that it's only after that that he began recognizing him as his father.

So, Alibaba doesn't say no simply bc he didn't feel like being a king. He thinks it'd make a mess in the country. There's probably some self-esteem issues involved, too, but also he does make sense. He'd said that some people in the palace began talking to him and all, not that all of them were on his side. It could've lead to a civil war. It was, in fact, a pretty understandable concern.

Alos, ugh, the fact that he wants to revive the slums & get Cassim & everybody to help;;;

And then the king leaves stuff to him. He's, like, 14.

Also, now I'm thinking abt the Moon again. It feels, like, symbolical. Yeah, yeah, I'm very smart for this one. Jokes aside, though, as I've said, Aladdin's kinda Moon-coded, so the Moon, especially full, represents something positive - guidance, maybe fate. So the lack of the Moon likely means the opposite - going against fate, depravity.

Bro, that breaks me a little. He's so confused, but immediately assumes something positive. That Cassim came to see him. But of course he didn't.

Gdi, what a thing to stumble upon.

Choosing is hard. But, like, jokes aside, I can't blame him for hesitation. He's forced to choose between his brother and the greater good, how can he make it?

Tagged by @greypetrel---thanks for the tag! This is so cool :) I also might do this for all of them gradually---I enjoy this unique way of thinking about these characters. I added Arianwen under the break here, and I'll likely make a separate post for my bounty of Lavellans. (Also--I'm just putting this out there--I'm adding a Tarot section for mine because I kept thinking about cards for them as I was writing these, but it wasn't part of the original list c: )

Maria Hawke

Seasoning: Something warm and sharp, like ginger or cinnamon. The kind of thing you can add to a hot drink when it's cold outside.

Weather: Snow that falls in big, puffy flakes that make you feel grateful to be inside and warm. Not a storm, but snow that makes everything feel a bit closer than it was before.

Colour: The crimson of heart's-blood, vivid and unmistakable

Sky: When it's very cold and clear outside and there are ice crystals shining in the air. You can only see them when they catch the light, but they're there nonetheless, like clouds scattered at ground level

Magic power: Fire that soothes and sears: a healing heat that is like knocking back a finger of whiskey in the bitter cold, or a blush on a first date. The agonizing pain of reaching for a pot too fresh from the fire or overlooking the burning candle you've just tipped over in your negligence.

House plant: Aloe vera: you can forget about it, it can withstand too much sun or rain for a time, and as long as it’s cared for every so often it’ll keep taking out the sting of your hurts

Weapon: A staff made of dark wood and bronze, polished to a gloss by decades of use and her father’s hands.

Subject: History—but mostly the salacious or embarrassing bits. Hawke loves a good story, and she definitely tells the bawdy ones when she’s tipsy.

Social media: Despises it. Has a hard time reading tone on the internet. Probably runs a personal blog about her life Kirkwall that she never updates, and rarely responds to comments; she’s too impatient to work to understand a format or website culture.

Make-up product: An anise oil treatment she rubs into her hair before she sleeps at night to keep it glossy and tangle-free

Candy: Chocolate-covered roasted almonds; a study in contrasts, with the sweet, melt-in-your mouth richness of chocolate and the crunchy, faintly bitter and salty almonds.

Fear: Failure; that it was actually her fault that Malcolm and Bethany died, and that it will happen again if she isn’t quick/clever/good enough

Ice cube shape: Perfectly square, rattles nicely when you shake it in a glass

Method of long distance travel: Carriage; she can nap, read, and take in the sights exactly as much as she’d like to.

Art style: Impressionism; trying to capture the fleeting through the suggestion of detail, but ultimately only capturing the impression of what it once was. The finished result is still beautiful, if full of nostalgia.

Mythological creature: A church grim; guardian of its domain and foreteller of death.

Piece of stationery: Handmade paper with pieces of dried rose petal or herbs pressed into the paper itself; slightly ragged around the edges but thick and sweet-smelling.

Weather: Gathering cumulonimbus on the horizon, with that especially purple-grey tinge to the bottom that tells you it’s going to be a really brutal storm. There are streaks of lightning every now and then, and you can see the streaks where rain has already begun to fall in the distance. (It leaves destruction behind, but come back in a season or a year---the fallen trees grow moss now, and house animals, and the fields have grown back all the greener for the rain)

Colour: Gunmetal grey; dull at first glance but lustrous and brutal nonetheless.

Sky: Red at first light

Magic power: Reopening hidden hurts and forgotten wounds

House plant: Cactus in a terracotta pot. Sometimes you wonder why you’ve still got it on the shelf there, when all it does is poke you and look menacing. But then you look at it after a multiweek depression fog and it’s still there, unwilted, kicking ass.

Weapon: a throwing knife, painted matte-black, all but invisible at night until it hits you

Subject: Applied physics; she likes the practical reality of numbers, and the application of an object in motion can really only benefit her.

Social media: Has a private Youtube account where she saves all her favorite Lockpicking Lawyer videos. If anyone posts a picture or video with her in the background, she hunts them for sport.

Make-up product: Cover up/foundation; if all your scars and tattoos are covered, it’s more difficult for people to identify you

Candy: Rebanaditas (watermelon chili powder candy) (and hey, this is how I found out that lucas powder contained high levels of lead and that’s why it was discontinued?? If you ate a bunch of it like I used to, just a heads-up.)

Fear: Loving someone as much as her father loved her mother (as much as she loved her mother) and losing them anyway.

Ice cube shape: Circle K ice (the little crunchy ones people like to chew on)

Method of long distance travel: Foot. No chance she’ll have to climb off or down from something and get taken by surprise.

Art style: Charcoal sketches; they seem straightforward, even simplistic at first glance, but are capable of unexpected depth and dimension

Mythological creature: Cŵn Annwn; a hound of the Wild Hunt in Welsh lore. Their howls were a death portent that grew quieter rather than louder as they approached. Sometimes regarded as guides to the afterlife.

Piece of stationery: Scrap of paper torn off a larger text for convenience
