Many readers are writers and many writers are also readers. I’m no exception. With The Traveler’s Gift available for the rest of the world to read, I find myself often wondering, “How can I get people interested in a book about bisexual mobsters with superpowers?”
I’ve had several books to hyperfixate on since 2018-2019 when the first draft of TTG came out and I drew inspiration from several authors, characters, stories, and themes to come up with something I could call my own.
The All for the Game series by Nora Sakavic
I love Neil and Andrew’s relationship and the way Sakavic doesn’t try to cover the trauma her characters go through.
Tumblr media
Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardguo
Kaz Brekker is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and the way he is a driving force in this duology is one of my biggest inspirations. Of course, I love Bardugo’s vivid descriptions and the world she’s created.
Tumblr media
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
Who doesn’t love a soft boy with a hard edge? Ronan Lynch is one of my favorite characters. We all know I’m weak for a Scorpio man, but aside from him, Stiefvater has a wonderful way of incorporating magic into the mundane. I can’t forget to mention her lyrical, but not overdone, prose.
Tumblr media
The Green Creek Series by TJ Klune
From the rampant LGBTQ+ representation, to the themes of found family, and magic with limits, everything about this series is perfect. I cannot wait to order a hardcover for my bookshelf!
Tumblr media
And the Villains series by V.E. Schwab
The funny part of this is I had never heard of Vicious or Vengeful until one of my beta readers sent it to me. She said, “Have you ever read Vicious by V.E. Schwab? Her writing style really reminds me of yours.” And obviously, I had to get my hands on these books. When I read them for the first time, the thought that somebody could compare my writing to these stories made me cry actual tears.
But that’s neither here, nor there. Vicious and Vengeful share the most similarities to The Traveler’s Gift than any other story in the list. It features characters with superpowers who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty for the sake of revenge. It’s dark, gritty, fast-paced, and I couldn’t put the series down until I finished.
Tumblr media
TLDR:
If you like any of the books mentioned above, please check out The Traveler’s Gift on Amazon! It’s available in ebook and paperback!

Hozier songs I would give my oc’s
(Picrew used is https://picrew.me/image_maker/1414503 )
1. Arthur Livingston “The Lion”
Tumblr media
I think Arthur would have “In the woods somewhere” or “It will come back”, he considers himself a beast and a monster, so these songs would really speak to him, I believe. He would also relate to “Cherry wine” as all his live, he has loved those who have hated him and hurt him.
2. Mavis Livingston “The Aural”
Tumblr media
Mavis is a singer herself and is all about fighting for what is right, so I think she would like “Nina cried power” but she would like many of his songs and would probably make covers of them.
3. Gabriel Livingston “The Shard”
Tumblr media
Gabriel would love “Jackie and Wilson”, he really wants kids and wants his own family that he could have. He also would like “Someone new” and would want to find the best person for him.
4. Nathaniel Livingston “The Spirit”
Tumblr media
“Sedated” would be a good song for Nathaniel, he’s an ex-addict who caused his lover to fall and be like him. But now, he doesn’t want that life but Sedated would remind him of the life that he once had before he decided to clean himself up for his son, Hayden.
5. Asa Livingston “The Copy”
Tumblr media
“In a week” fits the vibe that Asa gives. They have a strange way of showing love to the ones they desire and care for so a song involving falling in love while rotting away would fit them.
6. Lillian Livingston “The Phoenix”
Tumblr media
The most obvious song for Lillian would be the song “Arsonist’ lullaby”, she controls heat and fire with powers she gets from the sun so the song would fit her as she has a lot of anger and needs to control her and her demons. I think the song “NFWMB” would also fit her, although the ‘baby’ in this context would be her daughter, Caroline, as she always wants to protect her no matter what.
Tell me what you think!

HOW DO STRANGERS PERCEIVE YOU?
the ground beneath us is solid
sitting under a tree in summer. the sound of light rain on a metal roof and old wooden coffee tables. getting so absorbed in a story that hours pass without you noticing. you probably judge people who don't use coasters. your best feature is your hands. you're often pretty logical, but you're also very gentle. you're not aggressive, but you do have strong opinions. you like gardening. you have a deep need for comfort and security. you like things to make sense. you're afraid of circumstances out of control, but letting go helps you live so much more vividly than you could ever imagine.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ [ SEVERUS SNAPE ]
Tumblr media
they say sharks never stop moving
paint-stained skin. spontaneity. leaving an amusement park with a won stuffed animal bigger than you. messy hair and dancing in the kitchen. you have the soul of an artist. you're creative and your mind never really stops working. your best feature is probably your sense of style. you feel things very intensely, and may feel a lack of emotional permanence. you have a restless energy. you are always growing, always improving, always adapting. you may feel a lack of a sense of identity, but you don't have to know who you are all at once. you can find yourself in new ways every day.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ [ GERARD KEAY ]
Tumblr media
scary dog privilege
loud music. laughing at bad horror movies. comfort through sitting in silence together. deep, Intricate forests and dark shades of green and purple. your best feature is probably a birthmark, or maybe your nose. you often look stoic, but when you do smile, it lights up your whole face. you're observant. you probably have a soft spot for kids. for someone who looks so scary, you have this innate way of making people feel so safe. you're a natural protector. you just want people to have it better than you did. your kindness is subtle. not everyone will see it. but it's the cause of so much healing. even more than you can see.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ [ ANDREW MINYARD ]
Tumblr media
lightning never strikes the same place twice
midnight phone calls. original art hanging on the wall. indie music. the color blue and the feeling of knowing someone your whole life. you have a striking appearance. your best feature is probably your eyes. you're a rare soul, hard to figure out and impossible to forget. you probably don't speak often, but each word carries weight somehow. even when you're joking, you're revealing a tiny piece of you. you want to be loved so badly. you don't know that you already are.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ [ GORDO LIVINGSTONE ]
Tumblr media
green with envy
valentine's day. feeling breathless beside the ocean. the ambiguous time between late spring early summer. pastel, clean colors and alphabetical organization. you're more than a little intimidating. your best feature is probably your hair. to many, you look perfect. you're good at putting on a brave face, good at pretending to have it all together. you're afraid people won't love you if they see your flaws. let me tell you a secret: they will love you more.
