This very long pause in handspun content brought to you by the nightshift shawl that I am making with some of my previous handspun skeins.

Here’s my current project, which is progressing…slowly, because I basically only work on it during Healthcare Issues class twice a week. I really didn’t like the color combination for a long time but it’s growing on me.

i have previously attempted to make the Birds of a Feather shawl by Andrea Mowry and i just chose the wrong yarn.
so i got new yarn and have been working on it and i am loving it.
it’s just such a calm knit and it’s feels luxurious
i finally got to the lace section and i’m gonna be honest, i fucked up a little bit and read the pattern wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️ but i was able to fix it!!!
i am not even close to being done but i already love it!!!

Current WIPs and Reads | January 2023
Hello and welcome to a midmonth check-in where I am sharing the things I am currently reading and my works in progress and share how I am feeling about each of them. I am happy to report I am finally reading a bit. Not nearly as much as I have in the past, but I am making some progress in that regard. Due to this, I am reading a few books that I am going to be talking about. On top of that I have…

please do say some more about your favorite sweater patterns i recently learned how to do cables and boy am i excited for the possibilities that the future holds now
Ooooh! So many possibilities! Cables are so satisfying, especially the patterns that look impossible to follow that really are much simpler than they look.
Okay, so! I got a bit carried away looking through patterns, as I always do, but! Here's a whole bunch of pretty patterns I've either made myself or have had my eye on for ages. I'll start with the sweaters, because that is what you actually asked, and then move to the honourable mentions that aren't actually sweaters.
So for your classic aran sweater, the Moby Sweater Man by PetiteKnits is delightful; it's a dk weight pattern, so it's a little thinner and lighter weight than a true aran sweater, but the cable pattern is fantastic.
The Handsome Chris Pullover by Caryn Shaffer was reverse engineered from the sweater Chris Evans wears in Knives Out, and I'm so glad someone beat me to figuring out this pattern so I didn't have to.
Now, if you're just learning or wrapping your mind around cables, I recommend the Antler by TinCanKnits. (I can never recommend their stuff enough) Their patterns are fantastic, always, and very beginner friendly. There's also a free hat version, so that you can see how you like your yarn with the cable pattern, or see if you like the cable pattern at all before you lock yourself into buying sweater quantities of yarn.
Also by Tin Can Knits, and we're diverging from the classic aran sweater fully by now, but Hush is a really interesting design.
Quick aside to say that the pattern that got me loving cables is the Travelling Cables Handwarmers by Purl Soho, and if you're looking for a sort of one-step-past-beginner pattern, those are fun. They also are a good example of how cables really tighten a garment up, not dissimilar to how ribbing does.
The Seaway Pullover by Ozetta is a really good example of using cabling for texturing, which gives it a really interesting look.
I've been wanting to make the Wool + Honey by Andrea Mowry for ages now... it's not really what you think of when you think cables but look at it...... it's so pretty......
The Field Sweater by Camilla Vad is another one I've been eyeing for ages, same as the Wool + Honey. I just need to make it for someone sweaterworthy someday.
Honourable mentions time because I can't help myself:
The Ranger Cowl by Michael Vloedman is so very perfect for renfaire or DnD vibes.
Glimfeather by Sunidesus Knits is a shawl that I just know is the warmest thing in the world, and one day I will own twenty of them.
All of these are ravelry links purely because that's the database I use primarily, but most of these designers have their own sites as well if you prefer that. I do love ravelry though, and using the filters in the advanced pattern search can be so very useful and also so very tempting due to how many pretty patterns there are.
Best of luck on your cabling journeys!

My finished & blocked cardigan!
This was such a fun project and I got to try a new technique. It grew about an inch in the chest, half an inch in length, and two inches on sleeves from blocking with no stretching or pinning. It also got a lot softer. I still need to buy and attach buttons, then I will weave in the last few ends and it will be officially done.
I can't wait for the weather to be cool enough for me to wear it! :)
Pattern: Douglas cardi by andrea mowry
Yarn: berocco vintage dk in Yukon green

For Pride (or it’s just the next project I’m excited about), I finally started my Rainbow Noir shawl.  Pattern is Rose Gold by  Andrea Mowry, a big brioche shawl, designed for two gradient sets of fingering yarn.
My main yarn is a fingering merino silk, spun out of two braids of a lovely rainbow gradient merino/silk top from Friends in Fiber (colorway Rainbow Noir).  The silk in the top was black, giving the rainbow gradient a nice rich base.  Since I had two braids, I just spun each ply end to end, with a plying bracelet to match up the final ends.  I started with the purple, because that’s my favorite.
The contrast yarn is black with rainbow sparkles.  One ply is a black merino/silk blend, while the other is Glitzy Black, a blend of merino and trilobal rainbow nylon.
Both yarns are fingering two plies, spun worsted.  Each is about 8 ounces, and 675 yards.

february wrap up!
spark cardigan, v neck sweater*, champagne cardigan, peggy sweater, 2x2 ribbed hat
*the pattern i'm using for this one unfortunately has a trash size range so the home sweater v neck has an Extremely similar look with a more inclusive size range
spark by andrea mowry
yarn: briggs and little regal in light brown heather, patons kroy sock in copper colors held double (colour combo blatantly copied from @birch.grove bc i fell in love with it)
she's done!! i'll make a full post with all my thoughts about this one once i get some pics wearing it
v neck sweater (with bonus luna for y'all 🐈‍⬛)
yarn: loops and threads heathered tweed in basil
this one is also done except i need to redo the neckline finishing bc when i folded it down i screwed up and it's slanted 😅
champagne cardigan by petiteknit
yarn: drops heart you 7 and drops kid-silk both in lemonade
using the pattern as a base but i'm knitting it off gauge and between sizes so. champagne-ish. i'm affectionately referring to this as my niall cardigan bc the goal is to wear it when i go see the show live on tour this summer. the colour is not my usual vibe but it fit my ✨️vision✨️ for tour.
peggy sweater by lene holme samsøe
yarn: briggs and little durasport in grey? idk the colourway name for this one
this one is on timeout bc i'm not certain i'm in love with how the texture looks in this single ply but this yarn was originally being used for a different sweater that i ended up frogging and i really just didn't want it hanging around anymore. just need a break from it to make a decision.
2x2 ribbed hat
yarn: craft smart neon acrylic in neon pink
current desk project in the most obnoxious colour i've ever knit with. not following a pattern for this one, just cast on 96 stitches and am going to knit 2x2 rib until i get to whatever length feels right and then figure out the decreases at that point.

Monthly Intent | October 2022
Hello and welcome to another Monthly Intent post where I share my reading plans and other goals I have for the month ahead. We are now officially in fall and I have already had my experiences with chilly mornings. Due to this I am in the mood for horror, knitting sweaters, and other fall activities to keep warm and get in the spirit of the season. Without some more ramblings, here are my plans…
