Last Twilight: The Gay Angst of Low Expectations
Others are going to say much better things about the romantic stuff going on in Last Twilight this week, but I want to focus on how Day seems himself relative to August. The biggest thing that stood out to me this episode is that Day sees himself in a way that reads unworthy of August.
When we saw their flashback to their time as teammates, August is annoyed with Day a lot, and Day is always apologizing for any of their failures. He then spends an entire night exhausting himself to practice more. August recognizes Day's determination and begins to treat him seriously. They begin to win. When they stumble into each other, August is understandably hurt that Day didn't tell him directly what was going on. I enjoyed the Bond Between Men that they had formed as teammates and how earnestly August insisted that he wouldn't partner with anyone else but Day. It was also clear to me by all the hand holding that August feels something for Day.
However, when August doesn't show up for their dinner, Day was willing to wait more than seven hours for August to show up. He said that August is always like this, and blames himself for thinking August would actually want to see him. He describes their partnership as an arranged marriage to win championships, one where he struggles to befriend August and regularly works to appease August's temper for them to win championships. He admits he actually did like August, but regrets not saying anything when he could still see his face.
Then, August walks up and sees Mhok about to confess something to Day, noticing the flower and running his eyes over Mhok repeatedly. He hears Day's comment about liking August, shakes his head no, and walks away.
What stands out for me here is that August knew Day would be waiting for him. What he wasn't counting on what Mhok being there and clearly being some sort of rival. It was clear to me in the locker room scene that August also feels something for Day as well. I am going to be thinking about the fact that these two were unable to tell each other how they felt all this time. I'm thinking about how August probably felt hurt that Day didn't believe in him enough to tell him directly. I think about how Day always prioritized August over himself, and didn't feel like he could stand up to August.
It brings me back to the dynamic between Andi and Jonah in Andi Mack, my favorite Disney original tv show. For the other millennials out there who watched Disney Channel growing up, Andi Mack is a show by Terri Minsky (creator of Lizzie Maguire) with similar themes as her original show. Andi, who is like Lizzie, has a thing for Jonah Beck, who is like Ethan Craft. She has been hanging around him all season and joined the Frisbee club for him. In episode 9, Andi and the girls at school stage a protest about the school's dress code for picture day by wearing prison outfits. Jonah doesn't know what's going on and insists that Andi wear the team shirt for the picture. Andi, frustrated, demands Jonah tell her what her protest is about and then she'll wear the shirt. Jonah doesn't know, and Andi is hurt by this, but steels herself for the girl issues they're trying to solve.
Later, we get this apology scene.

Please watch this in full. This is one of my favorite romantic/platonic breakups in history. I love that Andi recognizes the power she gave Jonah over her. Jonah never asked for this power, but Andi still let him use it. This scene is important because she firmly takes that power back.
What I want more than anything from Day and August is for Day to take the power he gave August back from him. August may have a huge personality and a temper, but they can't be good to each other if Day is always going to be afraid of him.
So, while I am frustrated with August for standing Day up for hours without explanation, I am going to glare at him for knowing Day would still be there waiting. I want to see them unpack this expectation that Day will always WAIT for August. If August likes Day and also knows this, it's something the both of them need to face.
I'm all about the gay angst of knowing you like him but not being sure if he likes you. I'm here for the gay angst of being unsure about changing the relationship in your Warrior's Bond forged in the fires of competition. I'm all for the gay angst of thinking you'd lost him and wanting to take the chance that presented itself again. However, I don't want Day to always put himself second behind August, especially because August, like Jonah, never asked Day to do that for him.

Random ass Bea (& fam) headcanons ✨
Bea’s diet is primarily fruit, honey (sometimes,) nectar, and seeds. But with being mutated she can digest other foods but is often very careful on what she consumes. Very wary with how her body would react to meet so she is Vegetarian but does use a lot of vegan products!
Grows her own honeysuckles also loves honeycomb. Also a yogurt fiend.
As we know, she has a very big fruit obsession. Personal fave is bananas!!
Now that mutants are accepted into society she helps her parents at the grocery store smelling all the fruit by finding the best ones.
Her and her parents have a very teasing relationship and they will “gang up” on each other or joke about things they’ve done in the past or recently.
But they absolutely love each other though :>
They (try to) have atleast one family day each week. Game night, movie night, etc.
Can do things more now that they’re able to.
Bea and her mom are close and enjoy baking and going book shopping.
Her and her dad are goofy goobers, they like music and go to concerts when they can go to old vintage and antique stores to look through stuff like records and stuff.
Only child </3
No pets yet, maybe in the future we’ll see.
Grew up on mlp, wild krats, ninjago, ben 10, Star vs the forces of evil, gravity falls, bazaarbark, andi mack, girl meets world, lab rats, descendants, those princess movies, and a bunch of other shows on disney, cartoon network, nickelodeon, pbs, etc.
Can post herself now and EMHS dance team has a tiktok and insta and the team posts random videos of the my dancing or doing trends.
Bea posts a lot of dances on her perso. tiktok, especially k-pop choreo, personal choreo, or dance trends. As well as posting random content of her flying and doing tricks.

- andi and buffy sing you’re the one that i want + anything from grease
- cyrus sings beauty school dropout at least once to join in the grease theme
- every week tj just watches everyone else sing and when they do grease night he shocks everyone ( cyrus especially ) by singing greased lightning + full power choreo
- amber sings songs from the mean girls musical because she doesn’t like grease ( + tj mouths the words from his seat bc he loves mean girls )
- iris has the best voice out of everyone and takes random requests all night because she’s angelic and too shy to say no
- jonah doesn’t know what a musical is and sings hozier / noah kahan
- marty doesn’t know any songs at all but has a surprisingly good voice so they make him hum along awkwardly
- iris and jonah do the glee duet of creep by radiohead ( no i won’t elaborate but it’s beautiful )
- they all do born this way every couple of months and get super emotional over it and tj wells up thinking about how that was the best day of his life ( + marty does the lgbt rap part )
- bex and bowie come along at one point and bowie surprises everyone by pulling bex up to sing something stupid by frank sinatra
- bex goes on her own at one point and spends the whole evening singing paramore and avril lavigne

first game: 15 questions
Are you named after anyone? no, i'm not. my parents just liked the name. but allegedly for a short while they considered naming me after a song by a band they love and i dislike. i thank god everyday that in the end they decided to name me weronika instead
When was the last time you cried? this month? or last month? i don't remember
Do you have kids? i don't but i want to in the future
What sports do you play/ have you played? only PE classes at school. would love to start doing some yoga at home tho because i don't move much other than evening walks from time to time
Do you use sarcasm? i suppose. i don't pay attention to that
What is the first thing you notice about people? hard to say, i'd say general vibe. having some sort of social anxiety and experiences with bullying makes you decide pretty fast if the other person is nice to you or if they make you uncomfortable
What's your eye color? dark green. sort of blueish
Scary movies or happy endings? happy endings. i avoid horror movies at all cost (with some exceptions)
Any talents? uh i guess crocheting! not an expert on it and cannot make my own patterns but it makes me and some other people happy
Where were you born? poland, in a shitty hospital in a different town so i don't even have my hometown on my birth certificate
What are your hobbies? as tumblr puts it "media consumption" (watching movies and listening to music) but also crocheting like i said previously
Do you have any pets? a black cat! she lives with my parents so i don't see her that often now
How tall are you? 162cm which is 5 feet 6 inches i believe. i've had to convert inches to centimeters in so many crochet patterns and i still don't remember how much an inch is
Favorite subject in school? english because it was the easiest class for me. i also liked history and geography
Dream job? translating movies but they don't give me a deadline and i can just make the most perfect translation. or i could do voiceover for nature documentaries. an impossible job is an old hollywood movie star or a rockstar in the 70s
and now the second game!! 5 songs i like. i think i will just list things i've been listening to lately
i went thru sleater-kinney's discography again after the release of their new album because well, i didn't like the new album. so i'll stick to their older ones

Hello sorry to bother you with this all of sudden ,and this might be coming out of nowhere, and I’m not trying to force you or be pushy I’m just trying to get more people into this show with great potential. If your not interested it’s fine but Have you heard of or watched moon girl and devil dinosaur? Season 2 premier happened
The main character i love she gives me autistic vibes I’m autistic. The show has interesting characters, action ,great music, and animation ,good themes and representation, Anime references, plenty of Sailor Moon references too it even has an eyecatch season 2 is going to be more story driven if you find that interesting. It also shares the same animation studio as rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles.
It be good if you also watch the season 2 episodes when they air so the ratings will be higher.
I think Disney might be trying to sabotage the show with them dropping 14 episodes on Disney + February 3 which has passed.and it’s only half of season 2. We have a week or two to binge it.They did similar with season 1 and the ratings where low ,please watch season 2 episodes when they air on. But more importantly also watch it on Disney + in feb and when they air it on YouTube. Unfortunately they are dropping 14 episodes on Disney + so watch them all in a day if you can but also when they air the first time if you have cable.
I’m not just saying only cable just also. I’m saying please support this show. Despite that it still won 5 Emmys. Also if it’s no trouble could if it alright with you spread the word about this show to others you know like either online or irl. Time is limited!
I really appreciate the initiative on this to try and save your favorite show, and I'll definitely binge it! But I want you to be aware, as a long time fandom peep, Disney does just, unfortunately, love to randomly cancel shows with little to no justification. They did it to Owl House, Amphibia, Wander Over Yonder, Star Vs (which had its last season cut short), even live action shows like Andi Mack and Girl Meets World. I say this not to discourage you but because I want you to know that what you are doing is awesome and will undoubtedly help get more people to check it out, but I don't want you to feel bad if it doesn't work out. Any shows that begin to show even a hint of progressive views are summarily cut down. I didn't include Gravity Falls cause Alex Hirsch has said on record he chose for it to end, but the other creators of these shows were left confused and disappointed and at the end of the day it is no ome but the Studio's fault if it gets canceled. Just please be kind to yourself.

TIMING: A week after the July full moon
SUMMARY: Mack and Kaden have an impromptu movie day after one of Wicked's Rest's Demogorgons stalks the cabin.
WARNINGS: None! Just soft bonding time between a French hunter and a zombie (not that zombie).
Since meeting Alex in person at A Quiet Place, she had found the girl to be someone she was really starting to consider a close friend. There had been no judgment from her, and, on top of everything else, she had worn stripes to their lunch outing. Plus, anyone who could sit there while fans ogled them was a legend in her book. She had known people in the past to get up and leave. And speaking of, her new friend had been pretty clueless about who Mackenzie really was, which was a breath of fresh air.
Wanting to thank Alex in some way for making her feel so welcome, she had put in a few phone calls to her assistant, who reached out to another contact Mackenzie had. It had been a stretch and kind of risky considering Mack was supposed to be in hiding, but she had managed to pull off her plan and merely days later, a package arrived in the mail.
Now standing at a lone cabin in the woods, after doing a little research, Mackenzie knocked on the door hoping Alex would be home. Her plan was either going to go really good or really bad, and right now, it felt as if she were waiting to be murdered. Luckily for her though, she had already been dead, so any attempts to kill her would be fruitless, unless it involved fire or chopping off her head, but she didn’t know that.

Kaden’s brows furrowed when he heard the knock on the door. He didn’t think he was expecting anyone. And if Alex and Andy were expecting someone, this person was going to be disappointed because they weren’t home at the moment. Andy was at work and Alex had class. Meanwhile, the ranger was just holed up in the cabin in fucking pain.
Some stupid part of him hoped it was Monty on the other side of the door, not that there was any reason to expect the cowboy to visit. It would be unexpected, for sure. He tried to shove the thought aside, best not to get his hopes up. Knowing his luck it would just be a salesperson or, worse, one of those evangelists.
Kaden pulled himself off the couch and hobbled to the door as fast as he could, which wasn’t very fast at the moment. When he swung the door open, he was confused to see a kid standing there. “Hello?” he asked, giving her a one over. Nope, definitely didn’t know her. She had something in her hand. “If you’re selling something, we don’t want anything.”

Mackenzie heard grunts and groans coming towards the door, and she somewhat stepped back. It definitely didn’t sound like Alex, and she had never met Andy. It had to have been Kaden right? The French cousin who liked cheese? She was soon about to find out as she heard the door knob turn.
It was definitely Kaden. Mack had seen his profile picture online, but he looked worse for wear, and she had felt bad disturbing him, “Hey…” Before she could ask if Alex was home, she got an expected answer, “No, I’m not…selling anything. I was actually wondering if Alex was home. It was just a little thank you gift for meeting me for lunch and making me feel welcome. You must be Kaden.”
The lunch with Alex had been the first fun thing she had really experienced since coming to town. Aside from people gathering around and watching them eat hoping for an autograph or a picture, it had been a nice day. And seeing Alex dressed for the occasion had made it all the more interesting, but now, Mackenzie was getting to meet another member of the family. The infamous mime who hated ravioli, but who seemed really sweet in their online conversation.

Kaden was about to close the door, ready to head back to the couch and sink right back into the spot he’d left there. At the mention of Alex, he stopped the door from swinging closed, leaving it only halfway ajar. “Oh. Sorry, I didn’t know she was expecting anyone.” And she knew his name, too. Putain, this was awkward. Kaden had no clue who this could be or how she knew Alex. His eyes darted side to side as he checked his peripheral vision for anything odd that might not be put away, such as a crossbow, or a rifle. Or chains from the basement. Seemed clear, thankfully.
“She’s not home right now,” he said, pulling the door back open now that it seemed safe to do so. “I can, uh, leave it for her. If you want. Or you can come back later. Either way, I can let her know that…” Right, still didn’t know her name. “You stopped by.” He didn’t know if he should invite her in or shoo her away. He hoped that she had a clue for the both of them.

Mackenzie had felt bad. When she saw him about to close the door, she knew she had come at the wrong time and was close to walking away, when she noticed Kaden stop it from shutting in her face, “She wasn’t. It was a surprise. It’s just some stuff from Taylor Swift. She was super kind to me, and I wanted to repay the favor.” Mackenzie had grown up spoiling her friends and people she cared about. She had been blessed with enough of an income to live a lifestyle she wanted to without any worry, and she had wanted to share that with others.
“Right. You know I should’ve known that.” She shook her head, “Sorry, to have bothered you, and yeah, if you just want to give her the box and tell her Mackenzie stopped by.” She held out the small wrapped package. Mack wasn’t sure what was inside, but knowing it was from Taylor, probably meant it was something good.
Handing it to him, Mackenzie was just about to turn and leave, when she saw something coming her way. The creature had reminded her a lot of something she had seen not too long after going into Wynne’s coffee shop, but this one looked different, “Uh, Kaden…Is it just me or is that thing running towards us?” She was frozen with fear, despite knowing what the demogorgon looking thing could do to them if they didn’t get out of its path.

Kaden took the box with a small nod and was about to close the door once more when he saw a figure charging towards them. He narrowed his eyes to get a better look at what it was that was barreling in their direction. Monster or animal, it didn’t matter, it was clearly not friendly. And in this town, he was going to err on the side of the monster. “Putain de merde,” he grumbled as he threw the box to the side. “Get inside, now!” He didn’t give her much of a chance or free will and grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her through the doorway. The door finally slammed shut once they were both inside the cabin. A second slam rang through the place as something bashed into the other side of the door.
“Sorry about that,” he told her once it was clear that the door wasn’t going to crash down in front of them. Kaden still didn’t feel entirely confident that it would hold on its own, though. There weren’t a ton of great barricade options he could see on a quick glance around the cabin. Kitchen chair would be better than nothing, he supposed. “Are you okay?” he asked as he went to grab a chair to prop in front of the door, trying not to let the pain slow him down too much. It did. He couldn’t help but limp across the fucking cabin and back again. Fuck. There was no way he could go out and fight this thing like this. He sighed in between trying to catch his breath.
Kaden took a peek out the window to get a better look at whatever was out there. “Shit,” he said to himself when he caught a glimpse of the fumbling geode-like creature. “A volmugger. Fucking hell.” He rubbed his palm down his face and headed to the couch. “Might as well take a seat,” he said to Mack, waving for her to follow him. “We might be here a while.”

Before Mackenzie realized what was happening, she felt herself being pulled inside the cabin and the door slamming behind her. It was the second hard thud that made her jump. If that thing was like what she had seen with Wynne, then they were screwed, “You just saved my life.” I mean she was technically already dead, but still. She didn’t exactly want to find out what that thing could do to a walking corpse since she had already seen what it could do to glass.
Mack watched as Kaden hobbled across the floor to grab a chair, “I’m fine, but the real question is, are you?” She was going to step forward and help him, but he looked like a man on a mission, and she had definitely wanted to stay out of his way.
How in the world was she in this situation again? She had just encountered one of these things not too long ago. Was it the same one? “A vol-what?” She noticed him wave her over, and without hesitating, followed him and found a seat in a chair near the couch. “I’ve seen one of these things…in town. It shot acid at me, and I watched its spit eat through glass. What is that thing?” Mackenzie glanced back towards the door and the windows praying the thing wouldn’t be smart enough to try and get in. Maybe if they just stayed quiet enough, it would leave.

“Don’t mention it,” Kaden said. It wasn’t that big a deal, anyway. He’d gone much farther out of his way and stuck his neck out way farther to get someone out of danger. He sighed and tried not to wince too overtly as he sunk into the couch. “I’ll be okay. Encountered an aggressive animal the other night. It got a chunk out of me. Been worse.” Once again, he downplayed the severity of his injuries. But truthfully, right now, they hardly mattered. It wasn’t the worst of their problems. But it certainly wasn’t helping matters.
“You saw one before?” He asked, turning to face her. “Putain. They normally can’t make it out from underground. Usually pretty rare, too. Seeing multiple of them…” That sure as shit wasn’t a good sign. “Let’s hope it’s the same one. How’d you get away from it last time? What happened?” He shook his head in disbelief over the whole situation. Did it have something to do with all these crystals showing up? What the fuck was any of this? “Sorry you’re probably stuck here. Normally I’d volunteer to go out there and fight it but I’m not exactly in peak condition at the moment.”

Mackenzie glanced over at Kaden when he mentioned that he’d be okay. She couldn’t help but look him over and in doing so, her face contorted to something of uncertainty, “You don’t look okay. Are you sure?” The last thing she wanted was to get stuck and not be able to help him if he needed it, “Look, I’ve only played a Paramedic on TV, and all that medical jargon left my mind the day I wrapped, so if something happens and we’re stuck in here, you’re basically screwed.” And in more ways than one if I get hungry. She quickly looked back to the window thankful that mindreading wasn’t a real thing.
Her eyes shifted back in his direction when she heard the word putain. She knew it must be serious considering she knew Alex often used the words putain de what the fuck when something bad was happening. “The same one? The one I saw had the face of some guy, and didn’t look like it walked straight off the set of Stranger Things.” The irony wasn’t lost on her that they were currently in a cabin, “I swear if Millie Bobby Brown walks out the bedroom…” Mackenzie glanced back towards the other rooms, just in case, before looking back to Kaden, “We ran…me and Wynne? We just took off running through the coffee shop and out the back and then I drove them home. I never saw it again after that.” His next words weren't exactly what she wanted to hear though, “Stuck? Like for how long?”

Kaden shrugged. And then promptly regretted it as the pain shot through his side. “It’s stitched up and isn’t infected. So as long as none of them pop we should be okay.” Even then, he was pretty sure he could patch himself up if that happened. His head tilted to the side and his brow furrowed at her next sentence. “You were on TV?” Given what he knew from hanging out with Alex and now Cass and how often Nora made fun of him, he was wary of taking that as the truth. It was entirely possible this was some sort of joke or prank or something. There was usually something.
“It steals faces. Doesn’t always have it out, though.” Kaden wasn’t sure if he should be this candid with the truth of the supernatural factors at play but he was in too much pain to give a fuck about secrets and hunter duties and any of that shit. Plus, it seemed better to keep her informed if they were going to make it through this alive. One spit of acid and he was going to have to be making house repairs with Andy for the next few weeks. He really wanted to avoid that. “I don’t know this Bobby person but I can assure you it’s just us in the cabin.” Kaden wasn’t sure if that was better or worse.
“Putain de merde,” he grumbled. “It was good you ran. But doesn’t really help us now. Considering.” He glanced down at his wounds. There was no running right now. Not for him. If it came down to it, though, he knew he’d send her running while he distracted the monster. After that… Another scenario he’d rather avoid. “But I don’t know. Until it goes away. Or until Andy can come and scare it off. Unless we can come up with something better but I’m not the best at planning that sort of shit.” That did remind him to shoot Andy and Alex a quick text warning them about the situation. Hopefully neither of them would swoop in and try to be a hero.
Kaden sighed and rubbed his palms down his face. “There are a few ways to kill those things. Not easy, though. Pierce through vital organs, try to behead it, standard stuff. Neither of those are exactly easy given the whole crystal rock exterior thing. Can also use its own acid to melt it down but that’s also not exactly easy to manage. So waiting until it leaves is currently the best plan I’ve got, kid.”

Popped stitches. She had dealt with those once in her life when Brody had fallen and hit his head on a hike the pair had been on. Ironically enough, they popped on a very different occasion. One that had horrified her at first, but later on became a joke after they had rushed to the ER late one night to get them fixed. From that night forward, everytime she looked at his forehead, she couldn’t help but giggle quietly to herself, “Good. Cause I’m guessing you’ve got more than enough to do some damage if they came apart.” Mackenzie let her eyes move down to the side she had noticed him favoring since she had arrived. Eyes darting back up, she nodded softly, “Yeah, multiple times. But that’s a story for another time.”
Face stealing monsters? Okay, yeah. This little visit had become a lot more informative than she had anticipated. As much as she hated looking in the mirror sometimes, she didn’t want her face stolen by some stick skinny, ugly ass monster she had never heard of, “You know, I think I’m just gonna move away from anything that touches the outside world and sit on the floor.” Mackenzie slid out of the chair she had been in and sat with her legs stretched out resting on her hands. “You don’t watch much tv do you?” Of course how could he in a town like this, if this was going to be the norm.
His reply caught her off guard. In fact, it somewhat scared her. Mackenzie liked martial arts and training with weapons. She liked stunts and fighting on shows, but in real life, no. That was not her thing. Not unless it was a sanctioned competition, which Demogorgon out there was not, “I mean I have a black belt, and I’m pretty good with a sword, but I’m not going out there with that thing. Fuck that. I think your plan of just sitting here sounds perfect.” If she had been hungry enough, she could have picked him up and ran, but that might have resulted in her eating him instead, and then how would she explain to her new friend that she ate her cousin? “Do you have Netflix? Maybe I could introduce you to the world of Stranger Things.” She shot an uneasy smile in his direction.

“Suit yourself,” Kaden said with a shrug as she sat on the floor. He wasn’t even going to think about it because the idea of standing back up hurt already. “And no, I don’t watch tv much. Usually too busy. This is a sort of forced vacation if you will.” Not to mention he spent a lot of time out in the middle of nowhere hunting so there wasn’t much to watch. And his family didn’t pay for cable or anything when they were home on top of that. Didn’t interest him much anyway. He didn’t need to see fake monsters on TV, he spent his days surrounded by real ones. “If I watch anything, it’s usually nature documentaries or shit like that.” Things most people found boring, he was aware, but sometimes boring was nice.
“Netflix?” he repeated as he tried to remember the names of all the things Alex had told him they had access to. From his understanding, none of it they paid for themselves so he wasn’t complaining. “I think we have that. Pretty sure Alex said we…” He paused to search for the word. Sailer wasn’t right, but it was close. “Pirate!” That was the word. “We pirate it. I think. I’m not sure.” He grimaced as he reached for the remote and handed it to Mack. “I trust you can figure it out a lot faster than I can.”
As she took the remote, there was another bang against the cabin. This time it was the opposite wall. “Putain,” he grumbled, his brows narrowing as concern spread across his face. There wasn’t much he could do but he paused and listened for what he could anyway, just in case. Nothing big followed and he wasn’t sure if the shuffling was real or just his imagination. He closed his eyes and tried to concentrate a little more. There was no way he had tuned into his senses enough before, he couldn’t even make out Mack’s heartbe–
Merde. His eyes shot open and he looked back at her. Right. Fuck. He tried to look away like nothing was off or weird. Other than the fact that the girl in the room was undead. Did Alex know about her friend? And did she know what Alex was? She sure as hell didn’t know what Kaden was if she was sitting here this calmly. Putain. “Sorry, uh, thought I heard something else. Other than the… You know, the first one. Might be walking away.” He hoped.

“I mean, that’s pretty valid. It seems like you keep a pretty busy schedule. You work for animal control or a zoo? Am I getting that right? I think Andy had mentioned it when she was telling me you were a mime or something?” She couldn’t quite remember. After facing the…faceless creature twice. It felt like a lifetime ago. “There’s nothing wrong with a good nature documentary by the way. Any llama documentaries that come out, I watch. I’ve probably seen them all at this point.” Mackenzie laughed. It was interesting getting to know more about Kaden. He definitely was what she had expected, except she had known one solid thing about him. He liked cheese.
Mackenzie listened to him talk about Netflix and pirating stuff as she reached for the remote, but was startled by the banging on the side of the cabin. “Fuck! Okay.” Once she had managed to calm down, her mind went back to the fact that Alex and company were pirating things, “Whoa! Okay. Never tell an actor that, Bud. I mean, I’m kind of out of the business right now, but also…probably wouldn’t go around shouting that from the rooftops. It’s not exactly…legal.” But really could she say anything? She had eaten her fiance and a PA. Granted it wasn’t intentional, but still, she wasn’t a saint.
Noticing him look at her with an awkward stare, Mackenzie narrowed her eyes, “Oh…okay. Uh, but yeah. Um, I’ve got Stranger Things pulled up, but I think under the circumstances, we should watch something else. Maybe something funny. Have you ever seen RV with Robin Williams? That shit is hilarious. Laughter might do us some good and scare the thing off in the process.” She pulled up the movie and hit play, but also couldn’t help but wonder if Kaden knew something she didn’t. She didn’t want to let her mind go there though. They were already in enough of a bad situation as it was.

“Animal control,” Kaden said with a nod. “There’s no shortage of work in this town, that’s for sure.” And he was stupid enough that he was itching to get back to it. Realistically he knew he should be enjoying the break, maybe contemplating his morality or some shit but in truth he was just bored. And the last thing he wanted to do was sit around contemplating how close he was to death. “Really?” he asked, perking up when she admitted that she enjoyed nature documentaries here and there. “Most people joke about falling asleep or shit like that. Take it you like llamas, then.” He gave her a small smile. “Let me know when the next one comes out, I have a feeling you’ll know before I do.”
His brow furrowed at her response. Actor? Like a real one? That’s why she’d been on tv? “Wait, really?” It’s not that he was impressed or starstruck or anything, which he assumed was probably the case with most people she came across. No, Kaden was just confused. “If you’re an actor, what are you doing here of all places?” Seemed like a bad career move to come to Wicked’s Rest. Not that he had any idea how any of that shit worked. Maybe he was dead wrong, he sure didn’t know.
What he did know, however, was that she was undead. What kind, he couldn’t say. Probably not vampire since she had shown up in the daylight. Zombie or mare was still on the table. So was fury, too, but that seemed unlikely. Then again, this town was fucking weird. Right, he was staring now. Kaden shook it off and tried to act normal. He definitely wasn’t worried that he was a potential meal sitting there with a still healing gash in his side. Putain de merde. Just his luck. “Uh, not sure,” he said, glancing back at the screen, “probably not. Haven’t seen most things. If you say it’s good, I’ll take your word for it.” It’s not like he had much of a choice one way or the other. Hang out with an undead kid or get his face stolen by a volmugger. Seemed like an easy choice to make. So long as nothing went sideways.

“It certainly sounds like it, especially considering the fact that it looks like the town sits in the middle of a nature reserve.” Though the privacy of Wicked’s Rest had been nice for the most part, it was more secluded than the actress had been used to. Mackenzie had definitely picked the right place to be for that matter. “Those people are lacking in class. And llamas are my absolute favorite. I could bore you with llama facts, but I won’t. I will be sure to let you know when the next documentary comes out though. And if you have Disney+ I’m pretty sure they have quite a few nature docs on there. Ask Alex when she gets home. I’m sure she can help you, or I mean, if we’re here long enough, I could check.” She gave him a soft smile.
“Uh, yeah, really. But I’m not gonna say anything. So do what you want.” Again, it was like pot calling the kettle black, and she quickly realized she was far from having a right to judge. Plus, she knew how outrageous streaming prices could be. She paid them too. “Some things happened in my personal life, and I just needed to escape for a while. Pulled up a map on my phone and randomly picked a place and this was it.” Mackenzie’s smile dropped slightly. The reason she had been here had been so overwhelming, lonely, and complicated, but she couldn’t tell him that. “What about you? Why Wicked’s Rest? Aren’t you from, like, France or something?”
Still getting a strange feeling from him, Mack tried to shrug it off, and put her focus on the start of the movie, “Well you’re in for a treat. It’s kind of ridiculous at times, but it’s one of my favorites, and I’d rather watch Robin Williams get stuck on a mountain in an RV than think about that thing outside waiting to make us dinner.” She turned her attention to the screen, so she didn’t have to see Kaden possibly staring at her again.

Kaden couldn’t help but smile as she talked about llama documentaries. Mostly because he was just glad to see Alex had found someone who seemed like a decent kid to befriend. “Trust me, it’s almost impossible to bore me with animal facts.” Plus, was nice sometimes to be the one receiving and not the one sharing. “But yeah, that’d be nice if you could show me how to find those. I’m going to need a good few of those to get through the week off from work.” He was already getting restless and it hasn’t even been that long since the full moon.
“I am, yeah,” he said casually. “Came here to visit family.” Well, that wasn’t quite true. Visiting implied leaving at some point. “I just needed a change. Had family here, seemed like as good a place as any.” That was certainly simplifying it but he wasn’t about to get into the details of his sister killing his best friend. Seemed like a little much for day one. Maybe ever. She was too young to have to deal with all that.
Then again, how old was she really? If she was undead, she could have stopped physically aging years ago. Maybe she wasn’t working as an actor anymore because it was getting harder to hide that she’d stopped aging. Right. He didn’t know either way. And did it really matter just then? Kaden shook it off and leaned back into his seat, eyes on the screen and ready to watch. “I’ll take ridiculous,” he told her. “So long as you can put up with my questions about it.” He knew he was constantly asking Alex to elaborate on what made some of the videos on the clock app funny so he figured he should warn Mack at the very least.

“Well then I’ll be sure to brush up on random facts, so the next time I see you, assuming there’s a next time, I’ll be able to throw one at you.” She heard the thing scurrying along around the cabin again trying to find a way in, reassuring her that she wasn’t leaving anytime soon, “You know what? Since it doesn’t look like we’re going anywhere anytime soon, I’ll check out the Disney+ thing after we finish the movie, and if you don’t have it, I’ll set it up for you.” Mackenzie knew all too well what it was like being cooped up inside relying on the television for entertainment, and the way Kaden looked, he was going to need something to keep his mind occupied and off of any pain he was currently in.
“That’s just as good as any reason to move some place.” Mack had longed to have family here. She had missed her parents greatly, and from someone who had gone from seeing them nearly every day to not at all was struggling greatly on top of all the other things going on in her life. “I’m glad you’ve got people here. And from what I can tell, they seem like good people.” She sent a sad smile in his direction, before turning her attention back on the movie that was now in full swing.
Though it wasn’t what she had in mind when she had come all the way out here to see Alex, Mackenzie was weirdly satisfied with how the day was turning out, as long as she and Kaden had remained safe in the cabin. He was someone different, and oddly someone she had felt very comfortable around. Plus, he seemed to like llamas, which meant he was okay in her book, “Ask all the questions you want. I’m used to it with my mom and dad.” Looking back at him, she took in the moment cherishing it for what it was, since times like these had seemed fewer and farther between all the other bullshit that had come along. And if feeling normal meant watching a movie with Alex’s cousin while the Demogorgan of Wicked’s Rest lingered just outside their door, then she’d take it, because it sure as hell beat being lonely at home.

Last Thing You Read: It’s rare, but sometimes I want to read a cute high school AU with a love triangle. So the last thing I read was a tyrus fanfic called Of Course by CaithyCat & imnotanauthor. I’ve been rewatching Andi Mack, an old comfort show of mine. I know it’s a disney show “for kids” but sometimes I just feel like watching disney or nickelodeon shows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also this one in particular I started watching when I was bedridden for a month so it’s very dear to me :)
Last Book You Enjoyed Reading: Believe it or not, I actually read a paperback book last week. I was looking for a quote, so I opened my volume 2 of *cough* Scum Villain’s Self Saving System *cough*. And then I found the quote. And then I just kept reading until I was halfway through volume 3 and it was like 3 in the morning. Seriously, that book makes my brain go a little bonkers. The scene where Shen Qingqiu tries to hide Luo Binghe from Zhuzhi Lang nearly made me cry from laughing too hard.
Last Book You Hated Reading: Excluding fanfics, I can’t think of one… Maybe Tokyo Ghoul/:re back in 2017? I remember really hating that manga. Honestly, I’m really picky when choosing something to read so the stories I end up disliking I tend to just drop them and then completely forget they ever existed.
Favorite Thing to Cook/Bake: I’m kind of a terrible chef ngl. But the reviews are in and I make a pretty stellar spaghetti. Whenever my niece visits, she always asks me if I can make her my spaghetti because it’s way better than any she’s ever had. Getting that kid to eat anything is a struggle, so I’m really glad that she not only eats my food, she asks for seconds.
Favorite Craft to Do in Your Free Time: When I think of the word “crafts”, I imagine, like, art projects made by hand, so I’m not sure I can include writing and gif-making on this one. So excluding those, does drawing count? Even before I got a drawing tablet, I used to doodle all the time even on scraps of paper. I’m not really good at it, but it’s always been something I do just to kinda get my brain to chill.
Most Niche Dislike: Hmm. You know, it’s funny that you mentioned nail polish, izzy, because the first thing that popped into my head was long nails. I have tried to be that girl who gets a full set at the nail salon and I never did it again because the sound of my nails clacking against things bugged me. Like, I can’t even stand the feel of my own natural nails when they’re the slightest bit too long lol.
Opinion on Circuses: Never been to one. But, clowns slightly freak me out so I don’t have the best opinion of their home turfs.
Do You Have Any Sense of Direction: I’d say I do. Or maybe I think I do by association? My parents both have a pretty bad sense of direction and I used to help them a lot by printing out maps and searching for streets in relation to where we were. One of my older brothers used to always assign me as designated navigator because I’m good at keeping an eye on where we are and how to get back on track should we get lost

Hi! Why do you think 'kids' tv shows add so many meta stuff? The motif/theories/meta things I saw with GMW, HSMTMTS, JATP etc is something I don't see with adults/teen shows. Whats your input on that?
Hi anon! I love this question and I also apologize, I might have loved it too much because I wrote a much longer answer than I was anticipating lol.Any chance I can get about talking about how underrated these shows are, I will absolutely take.
I can firmly agree with you on the stance that some of these “kids” shows seem a lot deeper and have more layers than even adult tv. It’s so funny because I was literally thinking about this the other day. I needed a new show to hyperfixate on while I waited for hsmtmts to come back and I saw the new Emily Osment show on netflix (Pretty Smart). I thought it looked cute and it wasn’t bad, but it definitely did not hold any depth. It was interesting though, because it was a comedy AND they tried to aim for deep moments, symbolism, and potentially future callbacks. However, it lacked something really crucial: heart.
I know that sounds bad, but hear me out. These shows that are getting aired, especially things like girl meets world, andi mack, and hsmtmts are coming from producers who have previous works out to base their shows off of. They have really big shoes to fill, like Andi Mack’s producer was the creator of Lizzie McGuire or creating a show that’s a one off of the hsm franchise. It almost makes these pieces passion projects, where the producers want to make something really great and worthwhile, because they have large names to live up to. Their writing needs to solid and the show needs to feel worthwhile for all audience members involved. I also believe that these showrunners just have a gift for making tv that feels exciting and new to watch. It’s so easy to see how excited their audience gets every week digging through all of the symbolism and meta- an excited audience means more showtime and more praises toward the program (and who wouldn’t want to know their show is enjoyable??) It’s interesting to me because the care towards these shows is almost tangible with how much depth, parallels, and meta is involved.
The issue, I think, lies in the programming the show runners have been allotted to use. They probably got “reasonably” good contracts with Disney, as well as the means to have a highly viewed and produced show (Disney has a lot of popularity and money, so they can accommodate this need). However, this also means that ultimately Disney has the final say. So some of the shows, at times, can feel a little “dumbed down” and cheesy because the showrunners probably feel a need to reach a wider audience. They’re creating shows meant for people in their 20’s-30’s and are having to draw in a core audience of 5-13 at the same time. That is a LARGE shoe to fill, which is why these shows sometimes feel like they give you whiplash. GMW did that to me for sure with Riley. She would be really serious and have these amazing on screen moments that showed her acting chops and then they would make her do something “kiddish” and it would feel like a complete reversal of her character. The most unfortunate part of all of this, is it doesn’t matter how much love and passion the showrunner, audience, or anyone else shows, disney will always be the final decision maker. And if they don’t feel like enough of their “demographic is watching” and the numbers aren’t as high up as they want, the show gets cancelled.
I think the show runners are on a really limited platform that holds their potential back in order to give that platform money. It’s like you can tell the writers are trying to push the absolute limits of what they can do to make these shows meaningful and impactful for their intended audience (people in their 20’s-30’s), but then they hit a glass ceiling and have to come back down for Disney’s core audience (5-13). As scary as it might be for them to sign on with a platform that isn’t as big or might not have as much access to the budget and viewership disney does (it is currently the largest tv company), I think it could really benefit their shows for everyone involved. The writers could make their shows complete pieces without them getting cut too soon, they could be created for their intended audience, and they wouldn’t be confined creatively towards how deep their show can go. Disney+ was a really positive direction for the writing of hsmtmts. It’s like that glass ceiling was pushed just a little higher and you can tell because the story feels more complete and mature (not to mention it survived and got a 4th season… something timothy was worried about).
Ultimately, I think the meta comes from that “heart” piece I mentioned at the beginning of this post. Again, these shows have big shoes to fill if they don’t want to completely dissapoint the older audience that will absolutely come back for them. It’s fun getting to interact and theorize with the shows as well. It makes them feel like they’re a part of you and not just something you casually engage with from time to time. I watch the show with full focus because I don’t want to miss anything and then I watch again and again and again to theorize and contemplate what’s coming up next. I don’t know one tv runner who would hate the idea of a really engaged audience that basically promotes the show for you because of how actively they are in trying to discover all of the nuances of each episode from week to week. That, my friend, is good tv.

I just finished stranger things season 4 and oh do I need to ramble. Zero clue how long this'll be but I don't really care and this probably won't be the end of the rambles either.
Man's instantly fell for our pretty blonde haired man. And oh turns out he's the big bad, I have a track record at this point of falling for villains/assholes. I was shocked to find out he was the little boy. I was curious why the little boy didn't like scream or have a reaction at the dinner table as his mother fuckin died. Just to turn out he did it, what a sick little whackdoo. Man's had a whole ass hunch he was number 1 and I was rightttt.

Will byers, first off I love him. But you can't tell me he isn't a flavor of queer. This season just really smacked us with it even more then last season. The yearning looks he was giving Mike. No best friend does that unless you're fruity. Like will has to be gay for all those smitten looks he was given. Eyes always on mike in certain scenes like huhh. If he isn't gay but some fuckin chance, he better be some form of aro ace cause that just feels right for his character too. Explains why we never seen him express any sort of attraction towards anyone, girl or boy. Like it totally fits except for those damn looks he gives mike. ALSO what's the drawing my boy, wanna share with the class?? It was so important you took it with you when you fled the house.

Steve and Robin the dynamic duo, yes please. I loved the whole boobie scene and the Tessa muppet one. Really just shows their friendship and I adore it. Steve the entire season was just so ready to beat the shit out of something. The oar thing to I thought was hilarious. When we first see him with it, he has to drop it because eddy boy is ready to go rabid. Then we get to see him actually use it against the weird tentacle bats. I was just happy to see him actually use it and go ham, like yes you deserve this. Robin and her rambling is the best thing. Girlie just keeps going, number one fear is rabies followed up by earthquakes. SHES A BAND GAY, that shit had me cackling. Her style is amazing, I want to dress like her. The jacket alone is epic. Just a gay and their himbo.

But the lack of communication and just in general them. It's giving me andi and jonah from andi mack type vibes. Like neither knows what they really want, it's like their together still just to be together. I'm not saying that they don't love each other I guarantee they do, it's just that things have changed. Whether it's the distance, growing up, or anything else. Feelings change over time, them being together feels dragged out. They should just be friends for now, things could change in the future that's fine. But for now they're better off as friends.

she was on a very popular disney channel show for most of her young adolescence that was deemed more mature than disney’s typical programming (think girl meets world or andi mack) and that’s when she became a bigger name than her mother in hollywood
by the time the show ended, elodie was sixteen and had decided she was actually really interested in going to college which shocked Everyone
everyone figured she’d go to ucla and study acting or get some sort of fine arts degree. it’s what she’s done her whole life after all!
but nope, she wanted the ivy league life so she opted to go to yale where she may or may not have gotten in solely based on her fame level but she wouldn’t complain, at least not until the work got too hard
elodie knew she was always going to work in the industry (after all, she had signed a contract with a record labor that she would be releasing a first album after she graduated college)
between going to college super young and the school of her choice, people questioned her intelligence which pissed her off to no extent !!!! she was so tired of hearing “oh elodie, you’re far too pretty to be smart” so once she finished school she became a big advocate for women in the education space
elodie’s life had always been slightly planned out for her, and she struggled with that when she turned twenty and came back to hollywood
her mom was always scouting out the next best role, her grandfather had gone to yale, and she knew she had to appease both of the most important people in her life
so elodie was kind of hyper focused on being the best actor, being the best student, being the best singer that she really never prioritized anything else in life
relationships, romantic or friendly, were just something that took away her precious time so she’s kind of…. socially stunted in a way???? she’s simultaneously so mature and says things that make you thing she’s a grandmother who lived through a war but she’s also such a teenager deep down where doing things like a simple makeout session still make her feel like she’s doing something entirely too rebellious
elodie is incredibly book smart, and absolutely fucking stupid when it comes to street smarts <33
she’s incredibly kind to everyone but is so easily flustered, partly a result of being the disney channel girl at school
she never really knows how to handle social situations but she tries her best and she wants to start being the best person in all aspects
she’s mastered being the best student, she’s becoming the best singer, and she��s won best actress at least twice so her current goal is the best friend
she is such a vision board girlie !!!! she has a giant ass bulletin board that she genuinely will cut out magazine things and print things off and its a big vision board and its kind of her like secret pride and joy
also a massive day planner girlie, she knows where she’s supposed to be and what she should be doing at every single point of the day because of her planner
very much a type A, perfectionist person but she does truly have a heart of gold

Children's Theatre 8
(Fictional Scenario)
Mack Marquez is Andy's older brother.
He's not all that excited about theatre. He never really cared much. He's 2 years older, and for a couple years when he was starting high school and Andy was just starting this theatre thing, their mom got a new job.
So it was either sit at school and do nothing, or be in the shows with his brother.
So Mack agreed to do the shows. He did All Shook Up with his brother when he was an 8th grader. He played Jim, so he was the dad of the lead girl. He had to fall in love with Marley. It was just something fun to do, and he had nothing else going on.
His last show was Les Mis. He was a sophomore, he was old enough to drive himself, he didn't have to do the shows with his brother anymore. But he just wanted to do one more. And he was cast as Marius!
He didn't want to be in shows anymore. But Andy still needed to be driven to rehearsals, so he asked Director Jim if he could maybe work for them. He could stage hand, or help build props, or whatever. Director Jim thought he might as well have an assistant.
So Mack became the student Stage Manager.
He wasn't that bad. he could do the mic plots and prop lists and take notes just fine. But Mack loved to boss people around. And during tech weeks, it was just him and Ivan screwing around backstage while everyone actually did shows.
Mack has nothing against this stuff. It's not gonna be his life's purpose or anything, but it was just something to do. And he got paid in the end, so he couldn't complain.
In college, Mack is majoring in Business. It made sense, he was smart, and he wanted to be successful, business school was what made sense.
He did miss being around artsy kids. Maybe no theatre kids specifically, but he liked the music being around.
So he became a music producer as a side hustle. Mack was not very good, but he didn't really need to be. He was a genius networker. And it didn't hurt people thought he was a model.
He'd still come around and help out every summer, but Steps seemed so unimportant to him. It really didn't affect him at all.
This is his last summer in college though. And he's spending it helping out a kiddy production. Why the fuck did he do that?

Patsy O'Leary with Pendleton, Clyde, Stedman in The Bluffer (1930, Mack Sennett)
O'Leary, known as Pat around the studio, started as a Sennett bathing girl(with hair color varying between blonde and brunette, but naturally a redhead with freckles) in the late 1920s. She got larger roles in Sennett's talkies(often as Andy Clyde's daughter) in about 40 Sennett films between 1927 and 1932, playing glamorous silent actress Dolores Rio Grande in In Conference and Bing Crosby's wife in One More Chance.
O'Leary was born to an Irish father and French mother in County Cork, Ireland, but the family moved to Paris when she was 3 months old. At age 8 the family relocated to the U.S., and when Patsy was 14 they moved from Tacoma, Washington to Hollywood. Within 2 weeks she was working at Sennett. In 1928, she had appeared in the features Girl Shy Cowboy and Isle of Lost Men. She also appeared in vaudeville, was named "Miss Valencia" in a 1927 Orange County pageant, and appeared in a 1929 low-budget feature entitled Street Corners.
