dyed some wool yesterday and am pretty pleased with it. it was slightly more than really fits in my dye bath, so it's a little patchier than i'd intended, but i'll mitigate that next time, and this is gonna be so fun to spin.

Fiber arts update:
Calendar time!
Tumblr media
Days 11: Merino/Viscose in a colorway that I find intriguing (even if the resulting yarn isn't going to be my aesthetic). It's the same fiber as the Lesbian Flag-Colored one I spun up a while back; not my favorite to spin, but gives a lovely yarn. Day 12: Merino/Silk. That's the same fiber that my lacy scarf is made from, just in a different colorway. I don't love the cool colors here, but it is a lovely fiber Day 13: Viscose. Ew. Day 14: Something tweedy; I think it's south american merino with viscose bits. I never looked at these closely because the product photos are so ugly, but if it spins up as nice as it feels, I might need more of it. 15: Viscose 2: electric boogaloo, but in my least favorite colors. 16: Viscose/Viscose-adjacent/Merino. I have no idea what to do with this colorway, but I guess that makes it interesting.
And then, I plied and finished a little under 300g of yarn:
Tumblr media
Gonna wind it tomorrow evening and then I'll be onto crocheting on Tuesday.
I'm working on Bright Blue Merino now; photos soon hopefully.
On the spindle side of things, I've grabbed the Corriedale from day 4, mostly because it was the first calendar bit I found that I didn't need for something else.
Tumblr media
It's Fucking Weird so far, but fun!
I'm thinking of plying it with the white tweed stuff. Not sure yet, though; the other option would be chain-plying it.

First tries of spinning and chain plying. The first one on the left turned out a bit uneven (and underspun in some places, I guess) but I'm very happy with the overall result. Let's see how this works for knitting!

I haven't blocked this yet--so far the other two puffed up a ton, so I wanted to get a picture first, because I'm very happy with it. It's chain plied, but so much more even than my chain plied yarns usually are. I think it's only a bit thinner than the 4 ply main yarn, so I still couldn't get this singles as thin as the 4 ply yarn. Glad I stopped trying to 4 ply it, I guess.
It's also got subtle stripes, which is always appreciated.
Unfortunately though it's only 22 yards, which is not very long. I am hoping to do a small black sheep on the heel since I'm working it flat, so I could do fair isle instead of intarsia. I'm not sure if I'll have enough for that but I could also just put it on the ankle or leg and use the thicker yarn (earlier failed attempts to spin the dark southdown locks fine enough) to knit the body of the sheep so it's a bit bigger. Please nobody suggest I embroider or duplicate stitch it on, I'm not doing that to myself

Tonight's spinning group christmas meetup was such a great experience. We played a spinning game where everyone brings a small amont (about 50g) of fibres from their stash and then someone throws a dice and the fibre gets passed around the number of seats the dice shows. Then another dice throw to determine the minutes everyone spins the fibres in their hands. We were 11 people so it was a nice assortment of different fibres. I spun from a carded batt for the first time, I spun some still quite dirty alpace for the first time and I spun some reeeeally short fibres for the first time on my wheel. Some baby wool... idk no longer than 3 cm I guess. I got a very colourful single which I will chain ply tomorrow.
And we had a secret santa. Everyone was asked to take about 100g ready-to-spin fibres from their stash so no extra money will be spent, and everyone knows fibre artists are hoarders and will find sth. I gave away some pretty red and black ultra fine Merino and received a lovely grey mystery-probably-mohair fibre. It was really fun. Tomorrow will be another rest day though. No spindle turning, no nalbinding... pictures follow tomorrow as well

I picked a sample of polwarth/silk blend that I acquired a few years ago to make a bit of accent yarn. I decided on a beaded chain ply, and just happened to have a perfect match for this many-hued predominantly dark top in my bead stash. They're some lovely metallic, semi-iridescent beads.
Tumblr media
I don't love the idea of stringing all the beads I might want on my singles before starting to ply, as is recommended in the book, but I stumbled on a fun alt technique recently that appeals to me. The alt method: string the bead over the loop as you chain ply. So my beaded chain ply will have 2 plies covered by the bead with one ply holding it in place, where the book's method gives 1 ply covered by the bead and 2 plies holding it in place.
Tumblr media
I didn't have a hook small enough to slip through my beads to catch the loop on hand, so i improvised a needle-threader with a short length of doubled over coated beading wire (thank you beads/jewelry making stash again!). I can poke the folded end of the wire through the bead and catch the loop to pull it through, though I'll have to check if this is feasible once I've got my singles done. Doing it that way doubles the loop over, so it might be too thick to pass through the bead. My plan is a very fine singles anyway, but even if it ends up slightly overlarge, I can take advantage of the lack of a fixed handle on my improvised needle-threader. I can instead catch the loop with the open end of the wire, pass the double ends of the wire through the bead, and pull just the single thickness of the loop through.
Tumblr media
I got started spinning the singles last night and got a good length done of very fine. I'd guess the chain ply will be just slightly over laceweight from the look of it. I'll try to get a well lit picture that shows the lovely subtle shifts in hue as well as the fineness in a bit.

Summary: Soldier Boy introspective based on the song Rusty Cage, written by Chris Cornell. Tags: if you watch the show, you can read this.
Words: 1,300
Author’s notes: thank you @brrose-apothecary as always.
Tumblr media
You wired me awake and hit me with a hand of broken nails
Red light and a hushed voice filter through the hissing steam.
“Soldier Boy.”
He’s bound upright, masked, and stuck with needles attached to tubes, being pumped full of poison, but he’s able to bust the straps and stumble from his iron coffin.
The man facing him backs away slowly to reveal four more people he doesn’t recognize. As he struggles to gain footing, his chest begins to tighten and flare; it’s something like panic but more dangerous and frightening.
Just when he feels like he might explode, everything goes black.
He comes to with his hands around the neck of a man whose eyes are bulging and face is purple-red. He lets the man drop to the floor unconscious as he pulls clean air into his lungs. After a few breaths, he sets about stripping the man bare of clothes and cash.
With each step, he becomes more stable, less feral — then the questions begin to flood his brain.
Where is he? How much time has passed? Who did this to him and why?
Inside the facility is a cargo plane. There are dozens of men prepping the plane for takeoff. He quickly locates the flight manifest detailing the freight and the destination.
He silently stows away and takes the flight to the United States.
The plane lands in New York. He’s just as stealthy as he deplanes and finds his way to manhattan. To the Legend.
“Ben.” The Legend blinks in shock. “You’re-”
“Looking for my suit. Do you have it?”
The Legend backs away as cautiously as the black-haired man who opened his tomb, letting him into his penthouse with a ghostly nod.
The Legend leads him through his sprawling apartment. “Can I getcha anything else? Beer? Bump? Somethin’ to eat?”
They enter a room meticulously arranged with Soldier Boy’s suit and gear as the centerpiece, fitted to a mannequin encased in glass. He doesn’t hesitate to cross the room, punch it through, and drag the dummy from inside.
“I need a shower, and to get this...” Soldier Boy motions to his hair and face before setting about disrobing the figure. “Get me a fucking barber.”
You tied my lead and pulled my chain to watch my blood begin to boil
He finds himself teamed up with the grizzled old Brit from the lab and a kid who has no business caught up in it all.
Butcher lies through his teeth as he grins. Soldier Boy knows he’s full of rage and loathing. If he had to guess, Butcher’s former military, likely special forces. Secrets hover around the Englishman like a force field.
The kid never would’ve made it through the old days. He’s delicate and merciful, yet he stands up to Butcher and Soldier Boy like he’s unafraid. Maybe he’s just stupid.
They shoot themselves with a temporary version of what he was given in 1944. They play superhero for a day and don’t think twice about the black goo seeping from their ears. Soldier Boy thinks the world makes even less sense than it did 40 years ago.
So they ply him with dope and uppers. He watches the minutes tick by and feels like chewing through glass. Nothing he does or could do would permanently affect him anyway. To keep the demons and flashes of machine guns unloading in his mouth at bay, he drinks and smokes and fucks until their next lead.
Too cold to start a fire, I'm burning diesel, burning dinosaur bones
He always wanted kids. He wanted to do it right, raise them to be real men; boys, obviously, he wouldn’t know what to do with a girl. He was an only child, so he wanted two. He’d teach them everything he knew.
If he’s honest with himself, he’d realize that Homelander is probably not the only offspring he has out there, but he’s definitely the strongest.
How can he be so strong and yet so weak?
Soldier Boy reads all about his son and watches videos of him on the computer Hughie sets up for him. He downs two bottles of Kentucky bourbon, raging at what he sees and reads.
The hero of heroes today is an impotent whiner, desperate for approval from the masses. It’s in his wild eyes and the way he walks. He’s frail and insecure, and Soldier Boy’s father's words clangor in his ears.
“You’re a fucking disappointment.”
Soldier Boy would say strength is what makes a man a man. Physical strength and strength of character. He made a deal and he will honor his word.
I'll take the river down to still water and ride a pack of dogs
The kid and the Brit are always whispering. They think he can’t hear them. They think he’s shell-shocked.
He thinks they think he’s weak.
Their opinions of him don’t matter, though. He’s not here for them. All that matters is finishing this job and burning Vought to the fucking ground.
Maybe then he’ll be able to rest.
When the forest burns along the road like God's eyes in my headlights
The kid bails on them and Soldier Boy resists telling Butcher that he saw that coming from ten-thousand miles because that kid wasn’t cut out for what they’re about to do.
That kid was cut out for Baby Bjorns and Sunday drives around the lake for ice cream, not murder and vengeance. Men like Soldier Boy and Butcher live off of murder and vengeance.
Soldier Boy lulls his despair in the back seat of a wrecked old car while Butcher oozes his onto the dashboard.
He confesses things to Butcher that he’s never told anyone else. He ranges the emotions of solace, resolution, and misery in three minutes flat.
Butcher reciprocates by reminding him that Homelander isn’t really his son, and that blood doesn’t matter.
Instead of putting his fist through the limey cocksucker’s skull, he takes a walk.
When the dogs are looking for their bones and it's raining icepicks on your steel shore
These people are family, he can sense that, but not by blood.
Butcher looks at the kid with unfathomable tenderness.
The rest of them are angry at Butcher with the kind of passion Soldier Boy hasn’t seen since his mother found him bending the housekeeper's daughter over her dresser. Their eyes project pain and grief when they tell him he’s an asshole.
Soldier Boy’s son introduces him to his grandson, but all that does is remind him that he’s a fuck up and has been betrayed by everyone he’s ever loved.
In the blink of an eye, he’s fighting for his life against the man he was meant to fight beside, and his own blood.
They come out of the woodwork and all pile on — all of them. Sparks fly and so does the girl.
“Tinkerbell needs power for her powers.”
They cover his face and vape him. They tell him he deserves this. They tell him he belongs in that box.
Panic seizes his chest and he tries not to breathe in the poison but he’s hyperventilating.
He throws them off and gasps, shaking and glowing. As he grapples for solid ground, the Queen comes out of nowhere, tackles him, and jumps from the building.
Hit like a Phillips’ head into my brain
It's gonna be too dark to sleep again
Cutting my teeth on bars and rusty chains
He’s caged again, locked away from the world. He can’t hurt anyone here. He can’t drink or fuck or fight. He can’t care about anything or try.
They will poke at him and prod him, they’ll burn him and study him.
And he will lie in wait to break free.

so, I did in fact greet this Tour de Fleece Day Three with an attitude to spin another single and to two-ply that rainbow (blue moon fiber arts "fire on the mountain" colorway on polwarth 🐏)...I found a lovely merino 🐑from at least ten years ago in deep stash, shockingly uncompressed and ready to go.
Tumblr media
I didn't know how much I really had of either type, but it seemed somewhat close and I just went for it and spun the entire remainder of the merino. 🐑
Tumblr media
unfortunately, I was way off and they are about 30% different in weight and of a similar grist so the combo is a no-go if I want the whole rainbow in a single skein. ⚖️
Tumblr media
so, I guess tomorrow is for chain-plying both of these individually? stash-diving for another solid I have more of to spin yet another single to match what I've made (actually, TWO!)? giving both these bobbins a rest and picking up something else entirely? 🧐
the stash is deep and rife with entire fleeces, and I am well stocked on dye and alum, so the possibilities are literally endless. 🤗

I ordered some fiber blend packs off of etsy, 12 oz in all, and have been blending it all together making rolags. It's been a lot of fun blending colors and textures. There was some incredibly soft white fluff, and some more crimpy beige stuff. There's also sparkley nylon in there. I'm making art yarn yall! It's very Jedi robe inspired, and the plan was to make it super chonky, but when I started spinning it came out fine. So, I guess we're going to chain ply and get a DK or worsted. Who cares, I just want to spin it.

Tour de Fleece update!
I have been combing and spinning, combing and spinning. The uncapping forks as cheapo wool combs are hard on the hands, so it's a good thing doing it a little bit at a time matches my attention span, because you could hurt yourself (more than the occasional stabbing) if you tried to do a ton all at once.
It has turned out that I definitely want to separate the shorter, crimpier, whiter parts of the fleece from the longer, yellower, slightly coarser ones, because they are quite different and will make different yarns. If I was carding this, they could all be mixed together to make an 'average' yarn, but they're so different doing it bit by bit. Fancy white bits in the basket, darker coarser stuff I'm currently working with in the jar. I could probably define 4 or 5 distinct grades of wool from this fleece, if I wanted to get precise, but that would drive me crazy.
You can really see the difference in my knitted up samples, too. I did each type as a two-ply and a chain three-ply, then did the longer wool a third time to spin it looser. It gets scratchy if I over spin it; in fact, to get what I think is a nice-feeling wool, I have to under spin it, by my inexpert standards. But it makes a nice springy yarn done that way! Each of these is then knit up in stockinette, on the same needles, so I can compare. Labels pictured below each sample, so you can read them. Each sample is made from one ball of combed wool.
On the spindle is the start of my "real" yarn (ie I told myself this is what I'll make my sweater out of, though in reality this is probably a bigger sample bit, before I really get started). A whopping 1.15 ounces of it. I thought it would be more! But I guess it has a good bit of air/bounce to it. You can also see the difference in color between balls of the "same" grade of wool, with the most recently spun part being noticeably darker than the yarn underneath.

GUESS WHOS A WIZARD
ITS ME
This skein, my friends, I was so worried I had made a terrible mistake in 2 plying it rather than chain plying. Especially since I'd only done 1/2 the singles.
But I persisted, I'm embracing the learning experiences and I know that even things I'm not crash hot on will have their place in the scheme of things eventually.
I did the first 100g of plying, and started winding it off the bobbin (I was so worried it wasnt going to fit on the niddy noddy). And I was looking at the colours, those bright contrasting sections and plain rest colours, and just couldnt stop thinking how perfect it would be for some mythical pied pheasant.
[Edit: a friend has correctly suggested kookaburra colours instead and shes RIGHT]
And now, now that it is off the niddy and ready for beating. It's so soft.
I dont think I can adequately describe how soft it is. As someone who has been fighting an aversion to the texture of wool on my neck my whole life, i would happily bathe in this stuff. It's beautiful.
Whosthewizardiask?
It's me
I'm the wizard

Fiber arts update: we have achieved ~hat~
Tumblr media
Bonus: WIP, and Hat, as modeled by my trusty assistant Yorick
Tumblr media Tumblr media
all of this is handspun; the grey is "Polarfuch"/fine icelandic wool, the colors are superfine merino.
I honestly don't particularly enjoy crochet, but it feels good to have made a piece of clothing, however small, from scratch. Might try to add fingerless gloves, but I don't think I have enough yarn left.
/EDIT: slightly more info - the yarn's all spun worsted and as a 3-ply; the Icelandic was plied from singles, the Merino was chain-plied because I only had 10 grams per color. It's stuff meant for wet-felting, very fine and quite expensive, but it was still cheaper than paying for shipping, and the colors are really nice too. The "Polarfuchs" on the other hand is quite cheap, and something I intend to work with a lot more because it's just such a nice, rustic option. Spinning took me a couple of days, plus two or three more for crocheting. The hat is worked as a rectangle in back-loop only single crochets and sewn/cinched at the top. Could've turned out a bit longer tbh, but that's the risk of following standard patterns I guess.

I’m home at my mom’s now and i’m very happy to be here even tho the floors of what was always my room are splintery ply wood at this point in time. (she’s ripped out the moldy carpet but hasn’t replaced it yet) when I am here there is a big chunk of me that never wants to leave Los Angeles again. Venus entered Gemini (where it is in my chart too) and I wanna flirt and go to shows and start partying more. i’m acquiring Molly. I have been having some type of prolonged breakdown. that’s why I want to shop and do dregas and make out on the beach.. I came to my mom’s so I could get distance from the problems at home and it’s working and I am finally processing my emotions again. It’s funny how things work out sometimes. now this place is peaceful for me. My friends here all posting Instagram videos of them at a hardcore show on the river in lincoln heights and it looked sooo fun and it made news. I was on my phone watching and literally cried seeing the video of everybody sing como te voy a olvidar while throwing bottles at cops.. LA is beginning to feel like LA again. I was not at the show tho. I rolled myself a backwood and went to the beach, I got some shit on my shirt and had to take it off before I got there and my phone was dead so it was me in my underwear smokin a blunt in the sand. I’m safe to be naked here which feels like what life is about. I guess I’m smoking tovacco again after chain smoking my friends cigarettes last week I am not gonna be a cig smoker but blunts have found their entry point back. Aaa anywAys. Didn’t make any of the points I planned to but gotta go and say happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful mommy. later

New Year’s Resolutions: Group commentary
Tumblr media
Welcome to the group commentary! As I said in the winner’s post, there were a lot of white cards in the inbox, and that’s an obvious sign that white needs a small rework to keep up with its buffed up brothers.
Tumblr media
@misterstingyjack White does lover its planeswalkers and tying card draw with a powerful card type could be reasonable since card draw is white’s main weakness. However I would like it more if this loyalty extension was offered by a creature, so at least you can keep the game rolling.
Tumblr media
@askkrenko MaRo has mentioned the “elemental” supertype quite a few times in podcasts etc, but its really too late to add this element to the game. But we’re here to dream and create, and Strike Twice would be a sick card, if not a staple, in that parallel universe. Also this is the most badass a Pichu has ever been XD
Tumblr media
@ignorantturtlegaming There were no additional notes other than this crazy card in the inbox, so I can only guess that the creator wants more group-hug effects in red. I want to say Fires of Renewal is on the expensive side, but the effects it offers unconditionally are all very impactful. The Melvin in me appreciates all the instances of “2″ in the card!
Tumblr media
@wolkemesser gave life to an ancient mtg character from the Shattered Chains book and boy, she’s a truly solid card. Ordando has decent stats and gives some additional staying power to monowhite decks. I like the whole flavor that is so tough that she can protect others and come back again, but the execution feels a little off to me, as discard and mill decks can abuse her in non white ways. Since we’re going for the flavor win, I would like it more if in order to protect something she exiled herself with a promise counter (which in turn allows her to be cast from exile.)
Tumblr media
@i-am-the-one-who-wololoes A disgustingly evil win more card? Sign me up! The philosophy of the card plays very nicely in black, especially with low cost high stated creatures that ask for their tribute every upkeep! Counterspells in black are a big stretch in my opinion, but no one can’t deny this card is a big flavor win!
Tumblr media
@col-seaker-of-the-memiest-legion Speaking of counterspells, here’s another suggestion for them being in white. Many protective cards can be treated as counterspells, so we could find a loophole and treat this as a very wide protective spell. I think we could have cards like this in the future, but it’s still treacherous terrain because they must be so efficient that might replace blue’s role in the game.
Tumblr media
@naban-dean-of-irritation I have mixed feelings about Korair. Flavor text matches with the card’s name quite nicely but it doesn’t connect with the actual gameplay. Also venturing into the unexplored “emblems matter territory” is surely exciting, but I don’t like the fact that is creates emblems by itself, and with that ease to boot!
Tumblr media
@mardu-lesbian Hindsight is pitched as the blue/red shared keyword ability. I view it in a positive light, meaning I think it’s both flavorful and makes sense for those two colors, but it’s a bit unexciting that it matters only once in the creature’s life on the battlefield, while other shared keywords are combat related and have a greater impact in the game.
Tumblr media
@deafeningsandwichpeach Hexproof for player is a rare sight, usually preserved for white and green, but there’s also Leyline of Sanctity and Witchbane Orb and this changes things to the point I would even tell this card is overcosted. Cost aside, I really like Seal into Darkness!
Tumblr media
@snugz I would really love blue getting a combat ability that’s not straight evasion, but going full throttle to lure all creatures is a bit much, given that existing cards are usually uncommon. It could be like old fashioned provoke ( forcing a one on one fight) or even a numbered mechanic, like lure 1 or 3 etc, forcing 1 or 3 creatures to block.
Tumblr media
@hypexion   Lapse of Certainty is definitely  a card, but there’s a reason why it was not repeated. Here, Mean’s to Delay, like Unexpectedly Absent, is an X spell where usually the correct way to ply it is for X=0, turning it into a slightly better counterspell. Not against counterspells in white, but be cautious.
Tumblr media
@deg99 With this Angrath design, deg wanted to build more on the Rakdos color combination, through caring about stolen creatures and you know accidentally sacrificing them before returning them to their rightful owners. The power level is quite high, but it’s so enticing that I would gladly playtest this card to enjoy the crazy ride!
Tumblr media
@hiygamer Sooner or later, we will see this card printed, I’m sure! When that time comes, I hope it costs a little less, and also that it has an equally inspiring flavor text! Really nice design!
Tumblr media
@thedirtside Our friendly snailbear wanted magic to be a little more weird, and what’s weirder than a procrastinating Eldrazi, looming over the battlefield, doing it’s own things. Given, its practically impossible to interact with it and this takes away a lot of points per say, but I love suspend and bizarre triggers that feel like a disturbance in the Force. But we must cling to simpler things to make it happen.
Tumblr media
@stormtide-leviathan The proposal of this design is sponsored by “Horse United” inc and pushes WOTC to pass an errata to merge all Pegasi, Unicorn and Horses into one race XD On the actual design, Swifting Steed is a real treat for limited!
Tumblr media
@teaxch here tacling on the big issues of mtg, the shared keyword for blue and black! Feint is surely flavorful and it would make combats really interesting, but the main requirement for a shared keyword is to be able to mix with the other established keywords of the color pair. Blue and black have a lot of evasive abilities so an ability that matters when you’re blocked might not get the green light. That said, I definitely want to see this ability here and there in sets. A little guile spices things up! Also, neat flavor text XD!
Tumblr media
@dimestoretajic With a quick read I was quite thrilled, but then I realized that you had collective care about itself. That leads into being a bit clunky, and also it goes from 0 to 100 in 1 sec because it’s either you have not 3 collective so no draw for you, or you got 3 , which means 3 triggers and thus 3 cards!! With a small tweak, this brave insect could be holding the fair’s coveted trophy!
Tumblr media
@corporalotherbear
It’s true that there are some dryads that care about multicolored shenanigans, and I really like Manatwist Dryad playing into this space and establishing this trend. Because if green can’t care about multicolors, who can?
Tumblr media
@fractured-infinity Edit: I forgot the commentary for this entry last night. My sincere apologies! A new card type is always an exciting gift for our inbox! Strongholds can die from damage like planeswalker do. They make sense in white and I could see them secondary in blue as large structures are products of community and science.
Watcher’s tower has two passive abilities, the vigilance granting requires 0 effort, while the buff requires you to “man” the stronghold with the garrison activated ability. I wish phasing was still relevant so the creatures would phase out instead of exiling themselves, because things can quickly get out of hand with blink shenanigans.
The +2/+2 buff might be a bit much because it isn’t that hard to get it online on turn 3. But all in all, Watcher’s Tower is very interesting and I hope Wizards will explore this space in the future.
Tumblr media
@partlycloudy-partlyfuckoff Sometimes you see a mechanic and it’s not in the color it deserves to be. Mentor in Green seems like a perfect fit, and the non human clause gives this Leonin a greater sense of camaraderie. All in all a good design and future proposal.
Tumblr media
@gollumni I saw this card in a very positive light with the first read. I like investigate after all, and I had good memories of it pulling its weight in Shadows over Innistrad, giving White a taste of the forbidden fruit that is card draw. But with the second read, I feel the card is too efficient, taping two creatures and two lands for an instant speed draw is quite good, and adding the overrun option felt a bit too much. But other than power level concerns, I really dig this design.
Tumblr media
@corillion This might seem like an everyday card without context, but the change suggested involves first strike and double strike being relevant in fights. I’m all for it, but I got a feeling that the closer we will get to this is like a first strike lord that allows only first strikers deal damage in fights.
Tumblr media
@kytheon4-4 said let there be hatebears, but we got hatebirbs instead XD but instead of harassing your opponent, this feathered boi plainly protects your side of the board so you get to play uninterrupted, but only on your turn. Fair and square.
Tumblr media
@reaperfromtheabyss Ending the same way we started, with planeswalker support, this time in Red, as it is proposed to be the secondary planeswalker matters color. I can get behind this idea, as red has a sense of wanderlust thematically, and in terms of game, it cares about noncreature spells so planeswalkers are game too. On the card itself, the etb trigger is quite nice, even dealing two damage is fine. About the alternative loyalty ability, a mere ping is something that you would encounter on a weaker planeswalker, so it could at least be a + 2 loyalty ability, to ensure the survival of your planeswalker, as red isn’t really good at defending.

1) “Pop is now officially the mascot of the Marukane Department store, she has sold out and is a filthy capitalist. Sure, she’ll be rich and have a good life, but still…”- Hey, if it pays the bills and polishes her skills- not to mention gives her the opportunity to travel around to locations other that Koichi’s neighbourhood to ply her trade, then I don’t see much Downsides to Pop selling out for a little while until she’s ready to be a solo idol

I mean, I know that your father is waiting but c’mon, she needs to network around, advertise the corporation a little more, all as specified in her contract.”- Koichi’s probably anxious that the neighbourhood suffering chaos without the Crawler there to manage the appearance of Trigger Villains, conveniently overlooking the fact that he doesn’t actually do much to stop them on his own when they do appear, and that there’s plenty of heroes out there who can look after the place whilst he’s out on a mini-vacation. Ironically however, Koichi’s ‘vacation’ is taking place right in the middle of a Drugs bust, which begs the question- does Koichi follow the drugs, or do the drugs follow Koichi?
3) Oh, are we going to have a quiet, calm walk around the place? I highly doubt that, my bet is that in three pages they’ll be fighting for their lives from the evil claws of M O N I K A, the Fallen Crab.”- Well, we do see some claws that are likely going to be used for distinctly evil purposes in the next few pages, so I guess you can take this one
4) “I speak in behalf of all of the House of Cancer when I say that she’s a disgrace to our clan, and we’re already taking all the needed steps to bring her to justice before she has a chance to do any harm.”- ‘Monika then proceeded to flash her police badge to the house before skipping merrily away, leaving L behind to eat some Humble Crab Bento
5) “I genuinely have no idea why my jokes are leaning towards anarchism and anti-capitalism tonight, but I guess this is how we’re rolling.”-The more chaotic a situation erupts at the venue, the less likely the chance that Phelps will arrest Koichi in the ensuing madness, unable to focus on a lone would-be hero on the chaos, letting him and Pop slip away silently without being arrested. So, (lights Molotov cocktail) Let’s get this party started!!
6) “Well, you guys could make it themed around vigilantes, like a Pop key chain, a Knuckleduster Knuckleduster or even a Crawler gun holster, it could work out, but then again, we’re fighting against capitalism tonight, so, no can do.”- Given Koichi’s recently unlocked power of sucking, you could make one of those little rubber figures with the sticky balls on the end of their limbs patterned after the crawler- the one where you stick them to a surface and watch them backflip down it thanks to gravity
7) “Also, industrial equipment being used like this? I feel that OSHA would have a few complaints over the hazard that it posses in a public place like this.”-…. Monika may be on our side, but I’m sure as hell glad she’s not the one riding the suit anymore- I don’t wat to imagine her ‘snipping’ somebody with those jaws of life as part of a comedy routine in her head.
8) “Also it’s really creepy to have a crab-girl in a crab-suit offering crab as a meal to people walking by, there’s a wrongness to it I can’t even begin to describe.”- I mean, she’s not an anthropomorphic crab or anything- think that hairstyle is all Gel, like Apollo Justice- but yeah, Monika and Hawks seems to share a fondness for ‘cannibalism’ amongst their favourite animal life.
9) “OFF SHE GOES, AND THAT THING DEFINITELY ISN’T SAFE, TO BE TRANSITING LIKE THAT IN A CIVILIAN AREA. LOW VISIBILITY BY GOING SIDEWAYS ADDED TO THE SHEER WEIGHT AND SPEED IT MOVES, CHRIST THIS PLACE IS A FEW MOMENTS AWAY FROM A LAWSUIT.”-I don’t even think you need to drive it sideways- Monika’s manager yelling at her for doing so indicates it can be driven forwards in a perfectly normal manner, albeit probably at extremely reduced speeds, and Monika’s just choosing the faster option because it’s more ‘authentic’
10) “Oh, stomachache? That seems awfully convenient, when shit’s about to go down… Let me guess, you’ll need to use the restroom, then you’ll get out of sight and move to deal with the drugs deal you’re coordinating?”- well, apart from those last two words that’s pretty much 100% correct.
11) “You okay there Pop? You seem a little tense. Is it because of the creepy crab lady?”- Pop’s probably used to idols keeping up a ‘cute and approachable’ image and is taken a little off guard by one being willing to drop that to answer the call of nature, without even trying to offer a less gross reason- though, of course, any other reason Monika gave would be an easily-seen through lie, so going for something simple was the best excuse she could do.
12) “Interesting comment there, Bowtie McStache, it makes it seem like she’s the type of person you can’t exactly get a read on, even though I suppose you guys have been working together for quite some time.
Is she the type to run off at random because of stomachache or other strange reasons? Like, every event you guys go to? Places that could be used for drug trafficking? I wonder…”- I wonder how many of these supply lines have been using conventions as a safe transportation method? Probably more than a few, given Mcstache implies Monika and him have been working together for a while now, as this undercover sting OP seems to have a lot of hands on deck for handling just one method of ingress for illegal drugs… @thelreads
