hiii so uhh i really don't think anyone will see this because...i literally have one follower but im kinda making this for myself because me and my cousin are going to the mall and a few stores around the city in a few days SPECIFICALLY to lift and I made a list of things that we both want PLUS some tips for these stores seeing as I DO lift from most of them a lot sooo..yeah
SPENCERS: a moderately easy store seeing as there are TONS of blind spots and LP isn't employed. To top it off, cameras are never monitored, however they are low-hanging and somewhat high quality. Usually only 2-5 employees but the store is almost always crowded so if you find a blind spot it's a free for all. They wont chase but might call mall security.
What we want:
h20 piercing cleaner x2
toy cleaner
jojoba oil
hemp oil
septum and nose jewelery (we will actually have to purchase this, seeing as if you steal the jewelery they hand to you they WILL know you stole no matter what. Plus the packaging is riddled with RFID tags)
HOT TOPIC: Not that many blind spots, but employees usually don't care and rarely count clothing articles, which may have a tag or two, so check for those. Cameras are never monitored and the stores usually have a large layout so just watch out for customers and employees, find a blind spot and throw a bunch of shit into your bag They don't chase! :D.
What we want:
distressed thigh highs
over the knee thigh highs with bow
black fishnet lace thigh highs
black and white stripe arm warmers
black fishnet fingerless gloves
black floral tights
CLAIRE'S: whew lawd. I really really want to be helpful on this one but Claire's is a laughably easy place to lift from. No cameras, usually only 1 or 2 employees and if one is giving a piercing it's a free-for-all. THEY HAVE MIRRORS SO AVOID THOSE. My favorite blind spot there is behind the register if there is no one there, and that's all I have to say there.
What I want: (she doesn't want anything from Claire's apparently🙄)
Headphones
A tiara
Nail polish
VICTORIA'S SECRET: first of all lol, i feel ZERO shame in lifting from them. Please note that they do have cameras, and their SAs are trained to look out for shoplifters, however most of them are just confused college girls lol. Panties are NOT tagged. What I like to do is take a medium sized empty makeup bag and put it in my purse, and once I arrive to VS i put the makeup bag in the tote, I also drop my phone into the tote. I go around the store, picking out panties that are my size and i drop them so they can fall directly into the makeup bag. I do this with as many as I can fit into the bag and I do this with small makeup items as well. Once I'm done, I reach into the bag as if I'm looking for my phone (which i dropped in earlier) and that's the moment when i zip up the zipper of the makeup bag and pull out my phone immediately after and pretend to check the time and say something like "Damn, I gotta go. I'm late." Or something like that. Put the makeup bag in your purse and play around on your phone as you exit the store. And that's really it :) I rarely lift bras from there anymore so I can't REALLY help you there.
What I want:
a bunch of panties and some lip gloss!
BARNE'S AND NOBLES: I've never lifted from this place but I know friends who have. I'll give you the tips they gave me. There are cameras, and they are being monitored, but there are PLENTY of blind spots seeing as it is a very large store. The kid's section has no cameras tho, so if you're like me and look younger than you are, this could be for your advantage. No one expects you to steal when you're vibing in the kid's section. Most books have RFID tags, and hardcover books sometime have books engraved in the cover, so watch out for those. Most manga, some magazines, and just overall 99% of the books are tagged. Get what you want, flip through them and look for RFID tags while pretending to "read". If an employee sees you sitting down "reading" they won't suspect you unless they actually see you ripping out the tags. The worst that could happen is that they could ask you to move out of the book aisle so other customers can come through, if that happens, simply find another blind spot. Slip them into your bags like they're yours as SOON as you know they're rid of RFID tags. They won't chase, but probably will try to get you back into the store and if that doesn't work they'll try to get a license plate number or give your description to the police, neither usually goes anywhere tbh.
What we want:
fire force volume 1
fire force volume 2
fire force volume 3
fire force volume 4
Akame Ga Kill
Soul eater
Black lagoon
Kakegurui vol. 1
The seven deadly sins volume 1
Spy x family 1
Spy x family 2
Spy x family 3
Black butler vol. 1
Black butler vol. 2
Black butler vol. 3
Black butler vol. 4
Wotakoi vol. 1
Wotakoi vol. 2
Gangsta
Dictionary of witchcraft
The anatomy of the occult
Charms, spells, and formula
Moon spells
Gothic beauty magazine number 19
Nocturnal witchcraft
Necronomicon
The good witch's daily spellbook
A big book of practical spells
Any book on astrology
Gothic grimoire
Shingeki no Kyonin
Ulta: The second store I've ever lifted from. This store is easy, but not laughably. I feel like this would be a starter for babylifters. This store has mild LP, so watch out for those and NEVER EVER EVER conceal in front of customers, you should never do this in general but especially NOT in an Ulta. Get to your blindspot and make sure to detag depending on what you plan on lifting. Those mfs at Ulta tag like crazy. Put everything in your bag and remember to NEVER get too greedy at this store. They have a STRICT, VERY VERY STRICT no chase policy.
What we want:
better than sex mascara
lipstick
eyeshadow
makeup brushes
black liquid and stick liner
pink liquid liner (if they have it)
bronzer
brown eyeliner
eyeliner pencil
maracuja oil
any colorful eyeshadow pallate lol
WALMART: My walmart is so easy it hurts. Maybe about 5 cameras throughout the whole store to my knowledge, so the whole thing is basically a blind spot. The makeup aisle is heavily monitored tho so whenever I'm over there I make an effort to never look up to those cameras. Grab whatever you want/need and AVOID EMPLOYEES!!! they're everywhere. As well as customers. They are the two most annoying problems I've ever had lifting from a Walmart. I've noticed that aisles where you get things such as building materials are the most empty with no cameras. People usually only go to walmart because the food is cheap, so there are a lot of families who are usually only at one side of the store. Its rare that people ever need materials like those so seek out aisles like that to use as a blind spot. Wal-Mart doesn't seem to tag that many things, but ALWAYS check no matter what store you're at. If you're lifting something on the expensive side, just check for that.
What I want:
kinder buenos x2
sugar free monster energy
paint
paintbrushes
black lace
blue eyeliner
blush
nail polish
socks
THE DOLLAR TREE:
Pretty easy store tbh. The cameras are fake, and if they aren't they're never being monitored. I don't know about ALL layouts but mine has SO many blindspots it's crazy. If you're just looking for a snack, some makeup, or maybe a meal ? (Yes, you can get a whole meal if you lift enough stuff) then the dollar tree would be your place of interest. There are almost no employees walking around the store. There are usually only 2, and they switch between working at the registers and cleaning out the front of the store or whatever. Honestly this store is so easy just stuff shit in your bag lol. Even if you get caught they won't chase or call the police. Their stock is WAYY too cheap for that. I go there to steal candy or makeup brushes which is usually not worth paying for anyways so this is a beginner store. Knock yourself out ;)
What I want:
literally anything i see there that i want😭
welllll if you actually made it this far, thank you so much! I hope this helped someone and I hope one day I can make a master list of stores myself instead of just picking selective ones but this was all i was able to do :( i really REALLY hope this helped someone lmao just remember
✨ if its chain, its free reign✨

Car Hop (Kevin Keller x Male! Jughead’s Brother! Reader)
Word Count:1,799
Tumblr media
Kevin Keller was your everything. To him, you weren’t Jughead’s brother or Archie Andrews’ other best friend, you were you: someone who he loved so much that it hurt. Kevin had no problem showing anybody that he loved you, and that’s why you had to get him a promise ring. You had every intention of marrying Kevin Keller, and you wanted him to know that.
Unfortunately, you were a bit tight on money. You had taken a job at Pop’s to earn some extra cash. You hadn’t told your brother or his friends because they were the worst when it came to keeping a secret. They thought that just because they got away with a few things meant that they were amazing liars. The only one who even held up a chance at keeping a secret was Cheryl.
Tonight was going to be your last night working at the diner, but you loved this job. It paid decently, and skating was fun. Plus, it didn’t hurt that you got free milkshakes.
“Y/N is-” Kevin started. The gang groaned. They knew what he was going to say. Kevin gushed about his boyfriend at every chance he could, and each time he’d start, it got more descriptive.
“Yeah, Kevin. Y/N is so sweet and sooo hot. He’s amazing, and nobody will ever treat me better than he does. He’s too good for me. The little dips on his chest make me want to melt,” Cheryl said, rolling her eyes. Kevin pressed his hand to his chest and pursed his lips, clearly offended.
“I was trying to say that Y/N won’t be able to make it tonight because he has homework to do,” Kevin said. He flipped off the amused eyes of everybody in the room.
“Hey, what’s up with that?” Jughead asked. His brother had been skipping out on every plan they’ve made within the last month. It wasn’t like him to cancel out like that.
Kevin shrugged. He thought nothing of it. Your last days at Riverdale High School were rapidly approaching, and you had yet to choose a college. Throughout most of your time in school, you didn’t focus much on grades but focused on your brother and Kevin. However, you knew that your grades were the one thing that would get you and your friends out of Riverdale, so you spent many weekends studying instead of getting caught up in the town’s drama.
“You know, he has been acting a little suspicious lately,” Betty said.
“His car wasn’t in the driveway when I left,” Jughead piped up.
“Okay,” Kevin said. “Are you guys trying to convince me that my amazing and wonderful boyfriend is up to no good?”
The Northside gang looked at each other, glints in their eyes. Kevin groaned. He hated when they had ideas. Their ideas always led to laws being broken or immediate danger. Most times it was both.
“We’re not saying that he’s cheating on you, but-” Veronica started.
“No.” Kevin glared at them. “There’s no way that he’d ever do that. Don’t even suggest it.”
“But he’s probably doing something stupid and illegal,” Jughead said. Everyone looked at him, a bit shocked. Jughead and his brother were tightly knit, and out of the two of them, Jughead was the more mischievous brother. “What? Just ‘cause he’s the good child doesn’t mean he isn’t a Jones. The Jones’ are always up to something. Always.”
Kevin sighed. Before he could speak, Cheryl pitched in. “I already texted Toni to see if any of the Serpents have seen Y/N. And look! I’ve got an answer.”
It was too late to back down now. Everyone was already deeply invested in this, including Kevin.
“What the fuck? Is that Joaquin?” Archie asked, squinting to make out the low quality picture. You and Joquain were sitting together in the corner of the Whyte Wyrm, and your faced was scrunched up. It must’ve been pretty serious.
Whenever Kevin talked about Joaquin, he could never look you in the eyes. Instead, he focused his attention on his shoes and unconsciously tapped his fingers against his thigh. He would sigh and take your hands in his. It broke your heart to see a usually confident person so vulnerable and frankly a little heartbroken. You never got angry at him even though he was still hung up on his last break up. Instead, you held him and peppered kisses to his face because you wanted him to know that you weren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
“Guys,” Kevin said. They looked at Kevin, waiting for him to wave it off as nothing, but he didn’t. “You now what this means, right? We have to go to the Whyte Wyrm right now.”
They smiled at him, knowing that he would come around. Quickly, the gang all piled into Cheryl’s car with Archie sitting in the trunk and drove to the southside.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Where is he?” Kevin asked, grabbing Fangs by the collar of his shirt. Their noses were touching, and Fangs began to sweat. He wasn’t supposed to reveal anything about your plan, and if he did, he’d probably end up like Jason Blossom.
“Where is who?” Sweet Pea asked innocently. He was slightly amused because he knew Kevin meant no real harm.
“You know who,” Veronica spat. “Y/N.”
“How daring for a Lodge to be here at this time of day,” Fangs said, avoiding eye contact with Kevin, though it was nearly impossible.
“He said something about the sheriff,” Toni said. Sweet Pea and Fangs shot her a look, but she paid no mind to it. “I don’t know what Y/N has in store, but if it involves the sheriff, then it must be something really illegal or dangerous.”
“Thanks, babe,” Cheryl said, pressing a kiss to Toni’s cheek before they departed.
“What?” Toni said. Fangs was looking at her incredulously. Was she afraid of anything?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Heyyyyyyy, dad,” Kevin said, stumbling into his office. Sheriff Keller stared as his son and his nosy friends all clambered into his office. Knowing them, they were most likely getting into business they didn’t need to be involved in.
“What is it?” Sheriff Keller replied gruffly.
“Have you seen Y/N by any chance?” Archie asked, trying to be nonchalant about it. He was leaning against a filing cabinet and lost his balance, falling and taking a whole drawer of files down with him.
“No, I haven’t,” the older man sighed. “Andrews, will you please stop trying to destroy everything?”
“Officer Keller, please,” Jughead said. “We’re afraid that my brother may be getting into something that could get him killed. We just want to know that he’s safe.”
The older Keller recognized when he was being played, and Jughead Jones had just pulled the sibling card on him. Unfortunately, he didn’t want to wait all night to keep them away because now he had a case to solve and a filing cabinet to rearrange.
“I assure you that whatever Y/N is doing is perfectly safe. Now, please, go to Pop’s and get a burger or something. You can’t cause trouble if you’re eating,” Sheriff Keller said, subtly hinting at your location.
“Fine,” Kevin huffed.
“What am I going to do with him?” Officer Keller said, rolling his eyes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m starving,” Archie complained. “Can we actually go to Pop’s?”
“When are you not hungry, Andrews?” Cheryl said, glancing at him in the mirror. “Alright, we’ll go. I’ve been craving a strawberry milkshake anyways.”
It was almost midnight by the time they arrived at the diner, so they called in their orders and waited for someone to come out.
You yawned, happy that your shift was almost over. You would be able to cuddle with Kevin and sleep for a few hours before beginning your next shift. Right as you were about to leave, Pop Tate whipped up the food and put in a bag for you to bring to the customers.
You skated out to the parking lot, not paying attention to whose car it was and knocked on the window. You began to repeat their order to confirm if it was correct when you were interrupted.
“Y/N?” Betty said. You snapped your head up from the receipt.
“Uhhhhhhh,” you said. You were at a loss for words. “Double cheeseburger with three strawberry milkshakes and two orders of fries?”
“Since when do you work at Pop’s?” Kevin asked.
“Hey! Kevin!” you exclaimed. There was no use in denying it now. You had been all over town, trying to make sure that the ring you had in your pocket was perfect. Even though you had a slight grudge against Joaquin, he was really close to Kevin, and he would know if this was right for him. You knew that Kevin’s dad loved you as if you were his own son, and he respected you more when you asked his permission to give Kevin a promise ring. “Baby, can you get out of the car for a second? I need to talk to you.”
Kevin dreaded this moment. He knew that your relationship was too good to be true. You would leave him like Joaquin. Wait, were you going to leave with Joaquin? Although he was internally panicking, he kept a blank face as he stepped out of the car.
You got down on one knee, bringing the jewelry box out.
“Holy shit,” you heard your brother mutter.
“Kevin Keller. I love you so, so much. You are the light of my life, and everyday, I find something new about you that makes me fall more in love. Your eyes sparkle brighter than any star, your lips are softer than any flower petal. You’re so confident and sarcastic and amazing. I know that we’re too young to get married now, but I promise you that one day, Kevin Keller will become Kevin Jones. So. . . .” you trailed off, not knowing how to end it. Your heart was close to jumping out of your chest as you waiting for Kevin’s reply.
“God dammit, Y/N,” Kevin sobbed out. How could he have ever thought you were going to leave him?
You panicked, scrambling to get off of your knee, but Kevin wouldn’t let you. He took you in his arms and buried his face into the crown of your head.
“Yes,” he said, through his tears. “I love you, my handsome Prince.”
The gang cheered as you two kissed. Sliding the ring on his finger, you lifted him off the ground without separating and carried him to your car. You were going home to sleep with your future husband.
Bonus:
“Uh, guys?” Archie asked, still in the trunk. “Don’t get me wrong, this is touching and everything, but I’m still pretty hungry.”

A HANDY DANDY CONVENTION CHECKLIST!
Prepping for a convention? Here’s a check list to help you get organised for your trip!
TICKETS Make sure you remember to print out all your tickets! That’s your PDFs/receipts for your convention ticket, photo ops and autographs, plus meet and greet invoice if you’re doing one. Hotels have printers of course, but it’s easier to have them ready to go, rather than trying to find somewhere to print them out while at the convention – because you’ll be busy!
EXTRA TIP FOR HARD TICKETS - CREATION SPECIFIC Some people put the hard tickets (bought at the con, or via PDF ticket exchange) in the back of their lanyard - they can fall out! Be aware of them at all times, or find a safter place for them! You can jot your name and seat number on the back, so if you do drop them and someone finds them, they can find you, or turn them into Creation who can find you. (Fingers crossed if you lose a ticket, someone honest finds them!)
ELECTRONICS Camera – with spare batteries and memory card and associated cords. Phone Laptop/iPad/iPod All your chargers! All your charger cables!
It’s also great to bring an extra battery pack for your phone, because there usually isn’t anywhere to quickly charge your phone without going back to your room, so if you have a pre-charged battery backup with you that can help keep in touch!
If you do forget something, you always have fan backup – someone will lend you that charging cable that mysteriously got left behind!
PENS A pen – for filling out reupping forms – and for writing down your email or twitter for new friends! Highlighter pens – for highlighting the schedule Coloured Sharpie – if you don’t want black or silver for your auto, bring your own coloured Sharpie pen!
PAPER Always bring some kind of notebook – just in case you want to jot down notes from a panel, or something someone told you, names, emails, twitter handles (as Jensen calls them) etc!
SOMETHING TO PUT YOUR PHOTO OPS IN You need something to put your photo ops in so they don’t bend and get ruined! You can buy great hard sleeves in the vendor’s room, but I find that sometimes the photos can get stuck in them! So be careful of that! A document display folder with plastic inserts, or a ring-binder with plastic inserts is great. Or just a hard plastic document envelope. The photos printed out at the con are 10x8, so anything that fits A4 or larger works.
WHATEVER YOU’RE GOING TO GET AUTOGRAPHED If you have something specific that you’re getting signed, don’t forget to pack it! The Vendors room has photos and books and some other items that can be used for autos if you don’t have something specific.
SNACKS AND WATER Soooooo important! Many of the convention hotels/convention centres don’t have much (or any) food available, or you have to go out to get food (and did I mention how busy you’ll be?), or it’s super expensive. So pack your own. If you’re travelling and can’t pack a sandwich or anything, even if it’s just some fruit or nibblies to take into the convention auditorium, that will help to keep your energy up.
The days are long, you might not get much sleep, you might be drinking more alcohol than usual, the hotels and convention centres are heavily air-conditioned, so it’s also super important to stay hydrated. If you can pickup a bulk pack of water at Target or a supermarket or something, that’s going to save you money and you’ll have water in your room and to take to panels! Seriously, snacks and water. Get on that!
*CREATION CON SPECIFIC - There is also a large water dispenser with cups inside the auditorium. You can use that water throughout the day, and you can also fill up your own water bottle from the supplied water dispensers to save more money.
HANDOUTS - Twitter/Tumblr/email Print out your Twitter @  or/Tumblr/email addy on little pieces of paper that you can hand out to your new fandom friends who want to be able to follow or contact you. You can make them simple, or into cool little business cards!
EXTRA MONEY – BUT BUDGET! Um. Cons are expensive. Outside of the costs of hotel accommodation and all your tickets that you’ve already paid for, you’ll also have to buy food and drinks (unless you packed them as per the awesome tip above!) The Vendor’s room or vendor’s areas at a con has cool stuff, t-shirts, books, stickers, mugs, glasses, posters, standees, all sorts of jewellery, and various other goodies that you might want. There may even be a guest that you didn’t get an op with, but when you see their panel, you feel you absolutely must hug the living hell out of them, (oh believe me, it happens!), so you just have to get another op! So take a little extra money, just in case. But budget…because it’s real easy to get swept up into the con craziness and want all the things and all the ops (speaking from experience), so make sure you set yourself a budget!
Make sure you have ID on you too, in case that is needed for credit card purchases!
YOUR OUTFITS Okay, I know, d’uh, you’re going to pack clothes! But if you’ve decided on a specific outfit, whether something pretty or something cosplay, make sure you have all the necessary bits! I always plan what I’m wearing for each day ahead of time. That way I don’t have to pack loads of options and I don’t have to think about it at the con. Some days (especially Saturday and Sunday) can start quite early, and the last thing you’re going to want to do is be trying on outfits like crazy. 1. You won’t have time. 2. You don’t want to increase your stress! So pre-plan your outfits and pack all the elements you decide on to make them perfect.
And bring something warm to take into the panels - it can be chilly in the auditorium!
CREATION SPECIFIC - CASH FOR CHRIS – the Creation photographer If you are buying JPEGS of your photo-ops you will need $US to give to Chris the photographer. Each photo op you have, comes with 1 10x8 print – but only 1. You can purchase JPEGS of each photo for $10 per JPEG. There is a number on the photo – you give that number to Chris or his offsiders. Each photo’s JPEG you purchase costs $10 and you must have cash for that. So when you know what photo-ops you’re getting, figure out before hand which you may need (if there’s more than one of you in the photo) or want a JPEG of and ensure you have enough $US on you. If you are at a Canadian con – you can use Canadian dollars but as Chris is from the US, US dollars are better for him. The JPEGS are super high quality, large files, which can be printed to LARGE canvas size if you want (speaking from experience).
NOTE - Chris supplies the JPEGS via an email link to Google Drive. Expect to get them within about a week or two after the con depending upon Chris’ other con and family commitments. Be patient - he will get them to you!
If you don’t have the cash at hand to buy the JPEGS at the convention, you can still buy them after the con. Go to the Creation website and follow the link and you’ll be able to contact Chris via there. See info below!
Tumblr media
TISSUES/VITAMINS/PAIN KILLERS ETC. There’s lots of aircon in the hotels/convention areas and you may get a running nose – you don’t want to be snuffly or snotty – pack tissues. Eyedrops – for the same reason, the aircon may dry your eyes out and make them sore and red. It’s also not a bad idea to pack some Vitamin B or C to keep your energy up and immune system working. Pack some Paracetamol or/and Ibuprfen in case of headache or backache or hangover! I always take hay fever medication with me – I never know if something is going to affect me in a place I’m not used to (Vancon for example, gives me hives…WHY I DO NOT KNOW!). I also bring cough/cold medication. I have got super sick at cons! It sounds like a lot, but seriously, I have got sooo sick and having stuff on hand has been a life saver. I also always travel with Bepanthen because I get tatts when I travel :D Also don’t forget extra contact lenses if you need them, and pack band aids (especially if you have new shoes.)
And remember, you are going to be somewhere where you can buy things, so don’t overpack. If you forget toiletries or need something, you will be able to buy at the con. Most cons are held in a hotel, all of which have some form of shop for emergencies - fangirls are also a great back up.
BREATHMINTS/GUM You’re going to want to pop a mint before you go into a photo op! You’re about to get up close and personal with Jensen Ackles, and you don’t want to breathe coffee breath all over him! Pack mints.
PERFUME/MINI DEODERANT For the same reason as the mints. You’re about to hug the crap outta Misha Collins – you don’t want “been sitting for 6 hours in the same shirt” smell as you squish into him!
LITTLE PURSE MIRROR Perfect for checking your lippy, hair, making sure you don’t have kale in your teeth – as you wait in line for your photo op. Don’t worry, EVERYONE is doing it!
HAND SANITISER. OMG YESSSS! Con crud is a thing. Protect yourself at all costs! Santitise like your health depends on it! IT DOES!
BAGS I get asked about bags a lot - what bag can you take to a convention. For Creation, at this stage there is no restriction on the bag you bring into a panel, however the bag must easily fit under your chair or the chair in front of you. You can not keep bags in aisles or anywhere they may be an obstruction or a saftey issue.
For Karaoke - it is requested that you do not bring a bag of any kind. So only bring a bag if it is vital - ie if you require a bag for medication, ensure you let the people manning the door know.
If you have a camera, and do not need that bag - bring it without.
For the Saturday Night Special Concert - once again, avoid bringing a bag. If you do bring a bag for the concert, it must be small purse size, or a camera bag.
Note: there is security and all bags will be checked so DO NOT BRING A BAG to Karaoke or the concert.
ALCOHOL Creation do not allow alcohol at their events, there is no alcohol permitted at Karaoke or the Saturday night concert, or in panels. (There wasn’t even alcohol allowed at the Hawai’i con luau dinner! Seriously.)
That’s it for now! But I’ll keep adding more as more tips come up!

When are you having kids??
Never, nosy!!!! Just because I'm 21 doesn't mean I have to start popping them out! Ugh, my sole purpose in this life is not to have children. My itty bitty tiny woman brain is gonna do so much more for this world by itself than raising children could ever do for this world

WHAT'S THE BEST CAMERA FOR A BLOGGER, CONTENT CREATOR OR INFLUENCER?
Without fail one of the most frequently asked questions to me about being a content creator is 'what camera do you use?' or more specifically 'what camera should I get?' so here's the tell all about the first camera I got as a blogger and then what I upgraded to and why. FYI - I bought all of this stuff, no freebies.
IF YOU'RE A COMPLETE NEWBIE
It goes without saying that if you're a complete newbie to blogging or content creation then you don't wanna invest all your money into equipment that you're not even sure how often you'll use or how to use properly yet. The cameras on new smartphones like the iPhone, google pixel, Huawei etc seem to be incredible quality and you really can get some great images from there with a little editing and tweaking in 'post' (that's what photography people call after you've taken the shot). Some of the images on my insta feed are still iPhone snaps. I just use Snapseed to deal with any imperfections and edit slightly. Snapseed is great for basic editing tools such as brightening, adding contrast, sharpness etc. You can also fix the 'temperature' of the images (if it's too yellow for instance). Then I use a stronger filtering app like colorstory to give it a filter or 'look'. Sometimes just a quick correction on Snapseed is enough - the overly filtered look is pretty circa 2015 and the modern look is clean, crisp and almost unfiltered.
Here are some shots that I took on my iPhone 8+

IF YOU'VE DONE THE WHOLE SMARTPHONE THING FOR A WHILE AND WANT A PROPER CAMERA NOW
I would suggest the Olympus Pen EPL-8.
Tumblr media
It was made with bloggers in mind so looks great for starters but also packs punch inside a little camera that portable enough to take anywhere and not look completely obnoxious (no one wants to photograph their food with a giant whopper lens unless you really are giving no fucks, but in which case I think you're pretty cool tbh).
It's what they call a 'micro four thirds' camera which means it has a smaller cropped sensor. this may sound like gobbldeygook but all that means is it takes lower resolution photos. But that's fine for web and instagram. If you want much higher quality you may want to upgrade, more on that later...
Anyway back to the EPL-8. Here's why it's great for your first camera.
It's affordable (around the £400 mark for basic kit lens and camera body)
You can buy additional lenses to swap around (gets you that lovely soft blurred 'bokeh' background that everyone is so into though personally I'm kinda over it), these lenses are also affordable, starting from around £120 (secret - lenses are what start to make your pictures look way more pro!)
It's dinky!
It's easy to use - even off automatic
It has wifi enabled so you can send pics straight to your phone
You can film on it too
The screen flips down for selfies and up / around for overhead shots (the screen flipping down can be V annoying if you want to Vlog though as it gets in the way of a tripod, just a heads up)
I thoroughly suggest at this point investing in a two day course to learn the basics of photography. It'll help you get off automatic mode and have so much more control over your images. You know like when you're in low light and it is blurring all the pics? There is a way to stop that. But you need to know how the shutter speed, ISO and aperture all work together. Once you get your head round it, it's actually very easy! I did a two day beginners course at the London Institute of Photography and it completely changed my photography for the better. The course is £195 and worth every penny!
Here are some images I shot on the EPL-8 with various lenses on my travels last year

and here is a video shot on the Olympus...
This was my exact olympus setup...
IF YOU'VE BEEN SHOOTING A WHILE AND WANT TO UPGRADE TO SOMETHING MORE PRO
This was the situation I found myself in recently. I'd been shooting with the Olympus for a while and started to reach the limits of what I could do creatively with it. I wanted to do a lot more flash photography and I had learnt about editing with Lightroom (thanks to LIoP's course that I've been doing) and so I wanted higher resolution images. I also wanted higher resolution video as I'm doing more filming and crisper, more pro images. After extensive research I went for the Fujifilm XT20. Its a lot more expensive (£849 with basic zoom kit lens) but sooo worth it.
Here's why!
It's still quite small (though the lenses can add bulk)
It has higher resolution images than the Olympus
It shoots 4k video
It has a mic input line (something that really bugged me about shooting video on the Olympus as you had to rely on the ambient sound from the camera mic)
I liked how it looked and 'felt'
It has an viewfinder! The Olympus doesn't, it just uses the digital screen which is fine for a while but I wanted to really get inside the photographs and to me a viewfinder helps with this
The lenses were a lot more pro and gave much crisper images
It has a traditional hotshoe (this is where you connect a flash. The Olympus you could only use certain flashes and hotshoe connections)
The white balance is better (I found the Olympus struggled slightly with any yellow lighting situations)
I lost a the flippy screen from the Olympus (Fuji has one but it's not quite as good) but overall the pros far outweigh the cons (well, the one con).
Here are some photos that I've taken on the Fujifilm XT20 with an 18-135 zoom lens

and here's a video I've shot on it (the sound isn't great as I didn't have a plug in mic at this point)
vimeo
This is the exact equipment I use now...
Hopefully I'll get some more lenses for this camera soon too.
So there you have it, that's my camera setup, hope it helps you out! Feel free to comment with any questions or hit me up on insta and I'll share anything I know!
