#if you really think that the azazel deal--the demon blood violation that happened to sam as a baby that followed him til he was an adult#that sowed the seeds for him to become a tool of everyone who wanted to destroy him#you think that that being brought up in passing dialogue by dean i.e. not sam#with no narrative escalation or input from sam or mary to one another...#so much of the show and fandom is centered on dean's emotions#but god forbid i wanted an arc about an issue that was literally the main plot in the beginning of the show#and i think it should've centered sam and mary. the people who were impacted by it

i saw a post saying boom was good bc it feels like it could be done with any doctor/companion duo and honestly that was one of the things i felt was wrong with it
#in a show with a title character that could be Literally Anyone and a companion sharing the lead that could be Literally Anyone#i value the little moments that set this duo apart from the rest. ESPECIALLY when it comes to returning writers like rtd/moff#fifteen and ruby felt a little too eleven/twelve and clara adjacent in boom. in both their dialogue and characterization#space babies also landed a little weird at first bc it lifted a bit from end of the world BUT the scenes that fifteen and ruby#had to themselves. like ruby getting covered in snot and fifteen laughing. or fifteen and ruby looking after the Space Babies#or fifteen going out of his way to save the monster bc that monster is the only one of its kind Just Like Him Fr#that stuff is so good and its also something we haven't seen from another nuwho doctor. the vulnerable bleeding-heart empathy#and a dynamic w a companion that is basically 'two troublemakers that just deeply love fun and adventure and getting into trouble together'#oh yeah and also the devil's chord was peak fiction because it touches on fifteen's renewed connection and love for humanity#and marries it to ruby being a musician and how music like any art is the expression of the human soul etc etc#WHAT MAKES A DOCTOR WHO STORY GOOD TO ME IS PARTLY HOW THE PREMISE TIES INTO THE DOCTOR AND COMPANION'S CHARACTERS#IT HAS TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS TAILOR MADE TO THEM. ELSE IT WONT LAND RIGHT TO ME#i hate the take that they should've saved wild blue yonder for a fifteen episode bc#the tension is hinged on how well the doctor/companion know each other. u have a level of it that u can ONLY get#with fourteen and donna who are two halves of a whole soul but have also spent much more time missing the other than knowing them#im not rewatching fifteen's eps rn until a week later when i can watch it w my qpp but#rn i still feel a stronger sense of fifteen and ruby's characters from all the rtd-written eps rather moffat#which like. i get that a lot of that is my personal dislike of moffat's writing style but still#dr who#15 era#dw spoilers

#fave spotting#john levene#sergeant benton#doctor who#classic doctor who#the adventurer#I'll get there sometime#1973#itc#classic tv#Gene's private jet crops up a couple of times in the series‚ yet another example of how he's the greatest everything that ever did anything#it had a copilot in the other eps but not played by John; this ep requires a few lines from the copilot so perhaps that other actor wasn't#considered good enough at reading dialogue? who knows. certainly not me (and Pixley don't write a bible about this stupid show‚ your work#is needed on better things!). little for John to do here except sit in a cockpit and trade worried glances with Gene about bad weather and#plane problems; this was a holiday episode for Gene Barry‚ with just these few token scenes to include him (presumably coming as a blessed#relief to the crew who‚ by most accounts‚ couldn't stand him). it also allowed Catherine Schell (who Barry had had fired) to quickly return#and shoot enough scenes for a couple more episodes; despite Gene B's meddlings‚ the American backers liked her and wanted more of the#character. so we get this episode in which Gene is waylaid in his plane for the whole ep and it's up to his helpers (Schell‚ Garrick Hagon#as the longest lasting Stuart Damon replacement‚ and Barry Morse's Mr Parminter) to do all the adventuring and save the day without Mr#Amazing. Parminter is a curious character; he starts the series as a sort of semi mysterious spy master who calls on Gene for favours and#often knows more than he's telling. abruptly his character shifts completely about half way thru the series and becomes a buffoonish#ministry type who stumbles through cases and fights and has to be shepherded by his long suffering subordinates Hagon and Schell#it's most dramatic here‚ where he's positively idiotic. you'd be tempted to think Morse was simply giving up or playing with the part now#the series was well underway (and Gene wasn't around to shout) but in interviews he actually complained about how the character was#lobotomised by the scripts‚ so this isn't coming from him. who knows? maybe the writers themselves were trying to tank the show#certainly nobody seems to have had a very good time making it (Gene B flatly refused to be interviewed by network for their dvd release..)

Just realised I can't use tomorrow to relax because I have to prepare a stupid demo for the staff meeting on Monday 🙃
#ruffled feathers#we have to come up with a game that's 'safe focused and frequent' and doesn't leave anyone waiting for a turn#the TL for my demo is an entire fucking script i kid you not#i'm like. how tf do i make a game of this#it's one thing when you just have to do on Q and one A#but i have an actual dialogue and the age range is 10-12s#so i guess the best thing to do is just some super unoriginal janken ladder game?#everyone knows it so it's not like i'm bringing anything new or interesting to the table#but i have one day off and i've had a 6-day work week at a new school with POs and i have another 6-day week coming up#and i'm still processing a complicated and painful break up with a long-term partner#i barely had time to recover from jetlag before not just launching back into work#but travelling to a new school with Ss i've never met that's so far from yamagata city i had to stay at a hotel#so fuck it. i'm gonna be boring and unoriginal#i'll talk to my boss beforehand bc he's very understanding and i hate disappointing him#just explain that it's not gonna be my best and i know it's not my best for xyz reasons but i promise i'll try harder next time#he'll probably still be disappointed but i'm sure we'll both learn to live with it#besides. no offence to this one colleague of mine but i know he'll quarter-ass some garbage last minute#so whatever happens my boss will probably be less disappointed in what i have to show than what this guy does lmao#i'm such a bitch sometimes but it's true#watch him now put in an effort and come up with something spectacular for a change

#Song Of Silver Flame like Night#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#with the caveat that i am clearly not the audience. i kinda hated this lol#for a few very specific reasons#i think there’s interesting concepts & worldbuilding#but i am just so burnt out on girl-and-boy-with-no-friends-and-instant-attraction-travelling-together as the centre of a story yknow#this random girl dies and then after she’s referring to her as her best friend but like….i didn’t get that from their single conversation.#it almost feels like shoved in last minute because of feedback of no other female friendships#when there’s finally another woman it’s the stereotype of a mean girl. and they are just calling each other bitches and whores….like jesus…#she is so one dimensional but also in concept she is 20x cooler than the mc sorry i’m rooting for her now#from the end seems like they’ll be forced to work together and probably become reluctant allies/friends in book 2 or something but like….#if that was intended from the beginning you have to make the initial hatred make sense in the first place#also boys getting all embarrassed by periods……it’s 2023. come on. it's not cute and endearing.#if ur looking for dragons bc of the cover. there are barely dragons. the one shows up in like the last chapter#also the audiobook narration is one of those where the normal narration is a normal voice but the dialogue is so cartoony?#like the girls have such high pitched voices.the boys have the deeper voice. except for like random side boys who have comical ones.#idk none of them sound like real people#things i did like: the magic i guess. though to be quite honest the colonisers metal based magic seemed more original and interesting asdhgf#i thought there were some interesting elements to the dudes backstory#oh another thing i disliked is theres a side character with a cleft lip and the MC brings it up EVERY TIME like like.....what.#every time she sees him shes like. ppl used to discriminate#against this and call them (a bunch of slurs) and say they're cursed but actually maybe it's just a scar. people used to call them slurs btw#. i am going to bring this up every time i look at them.

always kinda feels bizarre to see fanon cadence stuff thats like “she’s actually a super bad person bc her power to make ponies love each other is actually super skeevy and manipulative so realistically shes like a monster and also probably a cheating slut” bc. well first of all horse show for babies. second of all stop projecting onto her shes a pretty pink pegacorn princess
#like she’s literally just an absolute sweetheart in canon that we know wouldnt do that#the one time we saw her use her power was to make a couple stop arguing#and from their dialogue it seems to be less ‘’she forces them to have feelings for each other’’ and more ‘’she made them remember their love#echoed voice#and shes also a teen on top of that like leave her aloneee#somewhat related to her btw but another weird lily take i just remembered was when she talked abt flurry#and said ‘’only cadence could have a baby out of the 4 princesses bc shes the only one who wouldnt be abusive’’#saying that ‘’luna would eat the baby’’ bc she didnt get therapy in season 5 and twilight would be neglectful and shitty#(while… showing a jokey comic a friend of hers at the time made? who cut her off hm wonder why)#and like insisting that was the canon reason that led to less abuse#and idk how ‘’cadence is the only one w an established partner’’ never got mentioned
