The Truth Behind St. Valentine’s Day Long but worth the read. February 14, 2021 St. Valentine’s Day is the world’s “holiday of love.” Since the Bible states that God is love (I John 4:8, 16), does He approve of the celebration of this day? Does He want His people—true Christians—partaking of the candy and cards, or any customs associated with this day?

When God says He wants you to live life abundantly (John 10:10), does that include celebrating a festive, seemingly harmless holiday like Valentine’s Day? The God who gives us everything—life, food, drink, the ability to think for ourselves, etc.—surely approves of St. Valentine’s Day, the holiday for lovers to exchange gifts—right?

Do not be so certain. Do not assume anything. Do not even take this article’s word for it. Go to history books and encyclopedias. Go to the Bible. Then you will know the real truth behind St. Valentine’s Day. And you will know what God expects you to do about it!

Valentine’s Past Like Christmas, Easter, Halloween, New Year’s and other holidays of this world, St. Valentine’s Day is another attempt to “whitewash” perverted customs and observances of pagan gods and idols by “Christianizing” them.

As innocent and harmless as St. Valentine’s Day may appear, its traditions and customs originate from two of the most sexually perverted pagan festivals of ancient history: Lupercalia and the feast day of Juno Februata.

Celebrated on February 15, Lupercalia (known as the “festival of sexual license”) was held by the ancient Romans in honor of Lupercus, god of fertility and husbandry, protector of herds and crops, and a mighty hunter—especially of wolves. The Romans believed that Lupercus would protect Rome from roving bands of wolves, which devoured livestock and people.

Assisted by Vestal Virgins, the Luperci (male priests) conducted purification rites by sacrificing goats and a dog in the Lupercal cave on Palatine Hill, where the Romans believed the twins Romulus and Remus had been sheltered and nursed by a she-wolf before they eventually founded Rome. Clothed in loincloths made from sacrificed goats and smeared in their blood, the Luperci would run about Rome, striking women with februa, thongs made from skins of the sacrificed goats. The Luperci believed that the floggings purified women and guaranteed their fertility and ease of childbirth. February derives from februa or “means of purification.”

To the Romans, February was also sacred to Juno Februata, the goddess of febris (“fever”) of love, and of women and marriage. On February 14, billets (small pieces of paper, each of which had the name of a teen-aged girl written on it) were put into a container. Teen-aged boys would then choose one billet at random. The boy and the girl whose name was drawn would become a “couple,” joining in erotic games at feasts and parties celebrated throughout Rome. After the festival, they would remain sexual partners for the rest of the year. This custom was observed in the Roman Empire for centuries.

Whitewashing Perversion In A.D. 494, Pope Gelasius renamed the festival of Juno Februata as the “Feast of the Purification of the Virgin Mary.” The date of its observance was later changed from February 14 to February 2, then changed back to the 14. It is also known as Candlemas, the Presentation of the Lord, the Purification of the Blessed Virgin and the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple.

After Constantine had made the Roman church’s brand of Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire (A.D. 325), church leaders wanted to do away with the pagan festivals of the people. Lupercalia was high on their list. But the Roman citizens thought otherwise.

It was not until A.D. 496 that the church at Rome was able to do anything about Lupercalia. Powerless to get rid of it, Pope Gelasius instead changed it from February 15 to the 14th and called it St. Valentine’s Day. It was named after one of that church’s saints, who, in A.D. 270, was executed by the emperor for his beliefs.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “At least three different Saint Valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in early martyrologies under the date of 14 February. One is described as a priest at Rome, another as bishop of Interamna (modern Terni), and these two seem both to have suffered in the second half of the third century and to have been buried on the Flaminian Way, but at different distances from the city…Of the third Saint Valentine, who suffered in Africa with a number of companions, nothing is further known.” Several biographies of different men named Valentine were merged into one “official” St. Valentine.

The church whitewashed Lupercalia even further. Instead of putting the names of girls into a box, the names of “saints” were drawn by both boys and girls. It was then each person’s duty to emulate the life of the saint whose name he or she had drawn. This was Rome’s vain attempt to “whitewash” a pagan observance by “Christianizing” it, which God has not given man the power or authority to do. Though the church at Rome had banned the sexual lottery, young men still practiced a much toned-down version, sending women whom they desired handwritten romantic messages containing St. Valentine’s name. Over the centuries, St. Valentine’s Day cards became popular, especially by the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. These cards were painted with pictures of Cupid and hearts, and meticulously decorated with lace, silk or flowers.

First Man Called Valentine But who was the original Valentine? What does the name Valentine mean? Valentine comes from the Latin Valentinus, which derives from valens—“to be strong, powerful, mighty.”

The Bible describes a man with a similar title: “And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD” (Gen. 10:8-9). He was said to have hunted with bow and arrow.

As mentioned, the Romans celebrated Lupercalia to honor the hunter god Lupercus. To the Greeks, from whom the Romans had copied most of their mythology, Lupercus was known as Pan, the god of light. The Phoenicians worshipped the same deity as Baal, the sun god. Baal was one of many names or titles for Nimrod, a mighty hunter, especially of wolves. He was also the founder and first lord of Babel (Gen. 10:10-12). Defying God, Nimrod was the originator of the Babylonian Mystery Religion, whose mythologies have been copied by the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans and a multitude of other ancient peoples.

Under different names or titles—Pan, Lupercus, Saturn, Osiris—Nimrod is the strong man and hunter-warrior god of the ancients.

But what does the heart symbol have to do with a day honoring Nimrod/Valentine?

The title Baal means “lord” or “master,” and is mentioned throughout the Bible as the god of pagans. God warned His people not to worship or even tolerate the ways of Baal (Nimrod). In ancient Chaldean (the language of the Babylonians), bal, which is similar to Baal, meant, “heart.” This is where the Valentine heart symbol originated.

Now notice the name Cupid. It comes from the Latin verb cupere, meaning “to desire.” Cupid was the son of Venus, Roman goddess of beauty and love. Also known as Eros in ancient Greece, he was the son of Aphrodite. According to myth, he was responsible for impregnating numerous goddesses and mortals. Cupid was a child-like archer (remember, Nimrod was a skilled archer). Mythology describes Cupid as having both a cruel and happy personality. He would use his invisible arrows, tipped with gold, to strike unsuspecting men and women, causing them to fall madly in love. He did not do this for their benefit, but to drive them crazy with intense passion, to make their lives miserable, and to laugh at the results. Many of the gods of the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Assyrians and others were modeled after one man—Nimrod.

But what does this have to do with us today? Why should we be concerned with what happened in the past?

What God Thinks Read what God commands His people concerning pagan customs and traditions: “Learn not the way of the heathen…For the customs of the people are vain” (Jer. 10:2-3). Also notice Christ’s words in Matthew 15:9: “…in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

Throughout the Bible, God describes “heathens” as those who worship things that He had created (animals, the sun, the moon, stars, trees, etc.), or man-made idols, or anything but the one true God. He calls such people and their practices pagan. True Christians understand that God hates any customs, practices and traditions that are rooted in paganism.

But just how serious is God about paganism?

When He rescued the twelve tribes of Israel from brutal slavery and led them out of Egypt, He commanded them, “After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein you dwelt, shall you not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, where I bring you, shall you not do: neither shall you walk in their ordinances” (Lev. 18:3). God demanded the Israelites not to defile themselves with the pagan practices and customs of surrounding nations (vs. 24-29). “Therefore shall you keep Mine ordinance, that you commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that you defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God” (vs. 30).

God cursed Egypt—a nation of nature-worshiper—with ten plagues and freed Israel from slavery. He rescued Israel from Pharaoh’s army by parting the Red Sea and leading His people to safety. He fed the Israelites manna—special bread made by God—from heaven. He protected them from battle-tested Gentile armies, delivered them into the Promised Land and drove out their enemies.

How did Israel treat God in return? “Our fathers understood not Your wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of Your mercies; but provoked Him at the sea, even at the Red Sea…They soon forgot His works; they waited not for His counsel: But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert…They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped the molten image. Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eats grass. They forgot God their Savior, which had done great things in Egypt; wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red Sea…they despised the pleasant land, they believed not His word: But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD …They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. Thus they provoked Him to anger with their intentions” (Psa. 106:7, 13-14, 19-22, 24-25, 28-29).

God explicitly commanded Israel to cast out and utterly destroy all nations that occupied the Promised Land (Canaan). Above all, His people were not to make political alliances with them or marry into their families (Deut. 7:1-3, 5, 16). “For they will turn away your sons from following Me, that they may serve other gods” (vs. 4).

But the Israelites thought they knew better than God. They decided to do things their own way. “They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils [demons], and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions” (Psa. 106:34-39).

To wake them up and get them back on track as the model nation He had originally intended, God gave Israel over to their enemies. Israel repented and cried out to God. God rescued them. With their bellies full and lives protected, the Israelites went back to pursuing other gods. God punished Israel again. Israel repented and cried out to God.

And so went the deliverance-idolatry-punishment-repentance cycle (vs. 40-46), until finally, God had no other choice but to divorce unfaithful Israel (Jer. 3:6-11).

He used the Assyrians, one of the most brutal warrior nations in history, to invade, conquer, enslave and relocate the entire northern kingdom of Israel (II Kings 17). Having “disappeared” from history, the modern-day descendants of those ten “lost” tribes are unaware of their true identity even to this day.

Later, God sent the southern kingdom of Judah (mainly the tribes of Judah, Benjamin and Levi) into Babylonian exile (II Kings 24 and 25). Because they kept (at least physically) the true Sabbath, which is a special sign that identifies the one true God and His people (Ex. 31:12-18), the Jews were able to retain their true identity.

The Israelites were severely punished because they lusted after pagan customs, rituals, traditions and practices. As you can see, God does not take paganism lightly.

Why Paganism Is Wrong Just why does God hate anything that resembles pagan customs? Is it possible to “whitewash” or “Christianize” pagan practices and make them clean? Is it okay to practice pagan customs as long as you “worship God”?

Notice what God says in Leviticus chapter 18. After rescuing Israel from slavery, God warned them not to practice the customs they had picked up in Egypt, or learn the ways, customs and traditions of the Gentile nations that they would encounter in the Promised Land (vs. 1-3). Instead, God commanded Israel to follow His ways (vs. 4-5).

God then describes the pagan ways of these ungodly nations in great detail. In verses 7-20, He condemns all kinds of heterosexual sex relations that fall outside the holy boundaries of marriage—incest, fornication, adultery, etc. In verses 22-23, God condemns homosexuality and bestiality. Together, these sins break down and destroy the family unit that God had so lovingly created and instituted.

Notice what God links to these perversions: “And you shall not let any of your seed [children] pass through the fire to Molech, neither shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD” (vs. 21). God ties in the perverse sexual practices of ungodly, pagan nations with human sacrifices—parents offering the lives of their children to pagan gods!

The Bible shows that Israel not only disobeyed God and wholeheartedly embraced the sexual immorality of the Gentiles, they even went a step further.

“And they have turned unto Me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction. But they set their abominations in the house [the temple at Jerusalem], which is called by My name, to defile it. And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into My mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin” (Jer. 32:33-35). Imagine. Israel committed a sin so vile, so disgusting, that it even shocked God! But that was then. What about today? Surely, parents do not sacrifice their children to pagan gods today—or do they?

Do not be so certain. Perhaps their lives are not being sacrificed—but what about their innocence?

Parents today expect their little ones to “fall in love” and have boyfriends and girlfriends. They think it is “cute” when little boys and girls hold hands and act like a couple, sneaking a kiss or two when no one is watching. Some parents get worried when their kids do not show romantic interest in the opposite sex. They constantly ask them, “Do you have a boyfriend yet?” or “Who’s your girlfriend?”

Yet these same parents are surprised when their teen-aged “little girl” gets pregnant. Or catches a sexually transmitted disease. Or gets an abortion behind their back.

St. Valentine’s Day is just one of many tools the “god of this world” (II Cor. 4:4) uses to get parents to sacrifice the innocence of their children.

When little boys and girls draw each other’s names in a lottery and send Valentine cards and gifts to each other, declaring their “love,” they are learning the first stages of intimate relations that the Creator God designed specifically for emotionally mature adults. Instead of embracing the carefree innocence of youth, growing up without the headaches and heartaches of adulthood (finding a job, paying bills, marriage, raising a family, etc.), children today are taught to lust after each other. They are caught up in a daily drama of “If-you-loved-me-you’d-sleep-with-me; I’m-pregnant; It’s-not-mine, she-had-an-abortion.” By the time they reach adulthood, virtually every shred of innocence, sincerity and moral decency has been stripped from them. Emotionally drained, they have world-weary, “been there, done that” attitudes. And their lives are just beginning.

This is why we live in a world where a teen-aged virgin is a rare find. Where what used to be called “shacking up” and “living in sin” is now simply “living together.” Where sex is nothing more than meaningless physical recreation—no emotional attachments, no cares, no concerns. Where people change sex partners as conveniently as they change clothes. Where unmarried twenty- or thirty-something’s have had at least five sexual partners—and that is considered a low number, especially in the United States. Where men are not referred to as “my husband,” or “my fiancé,” but as “my second baby’s father.”

How pathetic!

Satan has deceived the whole world (Rev. 12:9) in multiple ways—especially when it comes to intimate relationships. St. Valentine’s Day is just one of his tools for deception. (To learn more about this great deceiver, read Who Is the Devil?)

“Come Out of Her, My People” Concerning the near future, when man’s Satan-influenced world is about to collapse, God declares, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils [demons], and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed [increased] rich through the abundance of her delicacies” (Rev. 18:2-3).

Concerning this pagan, satanic system, God commands true Christians,“Come out of her, My people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues” (vs. 4).

St. Valentine’s Day originates from the ancient paganism of this Satan-influenced world. It is designed to deceive mankind by appealing to fleshly, carnal desires—or, as the Bible calls them, the works of the flesh.

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest [made obvious], which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry…drunkenness, revellings, and such like” (Gal. 5:19-21). Do any of these sound like Lupercalia to you?

Ultimately, “they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” A true Christian is focused on God’s soon-coming kingdom (Matt. 6:33) and the world to come—not on the fleshly cravings of this world. A true Christian must strive to “put off the old man” and actively imitate the perfect, righteous example of Jesus Christ. A Christian knows that he must actively come out of this world, out of its pagan-infested customs, practices and traditions.

Christians do not celebrate St. Valentine’s Day!

Aleph (1) is symbolized by an Ox, symbolizing the ONE or Strong Leader El or plural Elohim, the Canaanite Creator El is equivalent with Saturn, aka Assyrian Nisroch (2 Ki 19:37; Is 37:38). Together, Beit Rosh Aleph means the Creator/King of the Tent/House.

Shin (300) means Nail/Crush/Destroy; a Divinely appointed blood sacrifice necessary for Salvation. Talmudic Rabbis open Synagogues with the Sign of Shin celebrating the Nails used to fasten God to the Tree. Jesus offered Himself in accordance with Jewish Law in Deut 21:23 but was rejected and nailed to a Tree. Purim (Mar 20-21, 2019) means “Crush/Destroy; Bring to Naught”; Pur means “Lot”; the casting of Lots for the Assyrian Marduk “Calf of the Sun god Shamash”. On the Spring Equinox, the Sun contacts the altar on the Brass Line (Rose Line) at St Sulpice Cathedral in Paris and the Serpent descends the 91 (1…13=91; 13 the number associated with Rebellion against God seen in Rev 13 and Gen 13:13 “Sins of Sodom”) steps of the El Castillo Pyramid in Mexico; Purim is a Holy Day not of God, but derived from one of 2 books in scripture God is not mentioned “Esther”. Resh Aleph Sheen combines to mean the Prince leaves the Temp to Crush or Destroy; sounds a bit like Rev 9:11 as well as the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ.

Yod or Yot (10) means End of the Age and New Beginning; 10 means Ordinal Perfection of 1 “ONE” + 0, used as a place holder rather than a number for Time. Saturn is Chronos “Time”; Jesus came and fulfilled every Jot and Tittle of the Law (Mat 5:18) Thus the End of the Age, New Beginning at an appointed Time. Jesus returns a 2nd time when Creation is 6000 years old (2 Pet 3:8) to Destroy; Satan is cast to Earth at Rev 9:11 541 days before that as Apyollon/Abaddan “Destroyer” to incarnate a man called Antichrist who controls Earth during the 1260 day Great Tribulation. Recall the last word of God’s first sentence “Earth”; Earth Dweller first used in Rev 13:8 refers to those who reject the New Covenant.

Tav or Tau (400) is shaped as a Cross; it means End of the Covenant. Jesus was rejected and nailed to a Tree amid 2 Thieves which formed the 7 Branch Candlestick of the Old Covenant, the 7th Covenant between God and Man. The 7 Branch Candlestick, constructed by Moses has been replaced by the Hanukkah Menorah with Shamash at the center to replace Jesus. This is a symbolic rejection of the New Covenant; the 8th and final Covenant between God and Man ends with acceptance of the Mark of the Beast. The Cross is not what you think it is; my article Cross goes into more detail; suffice to say, the Tree of Life (Jesus Christ) is replaced by the Serpent/Devil/Satan in the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

The Covenantal Basis of Sacramental Validity

Good question:

Do Oriental Orthodox have valid sacraments? What about the Anglicans or the Assyrian Church of the East. Where do you draw the line? Much appreciated!

I believe the Oriental Orthodox, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Roman Catholic Church have a valid priesthood and sacraments. The reason I say so is that the formal teaching of the Church of England after the Elizabethan reforms preclude the sort of priestly charism whose transmission is the essential purpose of the sacrament of ordination.

But we ought to be precise about what it means for a church to have valid priesthood and sacraments. Indeed, what is the theological basis for such things as a valid baptism? The apostles, particularly Paul, closely associate the faith which justifies the Christian with the mystery of baptism. Romans 6:7 says that a person is “justified” from sin in baptism in the same letter where justification by faith is a major emphasis. A person is justified by faith in baptism. We can also compare the language of Ephesians 2:8-10 to the description of baptism in Colossians 2 to see the key connection. I believe the most helpful text in this regard is Acts 22, where Ananias says to Paul: “rise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His Name.”

The phrase “calling on the Name of the Lord” is first used in Genesis 4 and is echoed throughout the law, the prophets, and the New Testament. Its use in the New Testament principally derives from the text in Joel 2 where we are told that the Spirit will be “poured out on all flesh” so that “all who call on the Name of the Lord” will be saved. Notice that there is a very close conceptual link between the words “Name” and “call.” The word “call” is frequently used in scripture to denote the verbal act of naming. In one respect, then, the phrase means “Naming the Name of the Lord.” In baptism, we are given a new name through death and resurrection by being baptized “into” the Name of the Lord. The genealogy that begins with the son of Adam who initiates “calling on the Name of the Lord” is brought to a new beginning with Shem- whose name means “name.” Shem’s genealogy is brought to a new beginning through Abram, whom God promises to give a “great Name” and who receives a new personal name.

What, then, accounts for the connection between these two words? To grasp this, one must attend to the biblical freight of the “Name of the Lord.” In scripture, as in traditional societies, a personal name expresses the intrinsic qualities and character of a person. God thus “reveals” His Name “Yahweh” (“the Lord”) for the first time in Exodus because it is in the exodus that the quality of God signified by this Name “Yahweh” is covenantally revealed. In the patriarchal period, God’s preeminent name was “God Almighty.” The word “Shaddai”, based on other Near Eastern cognates, seems to relate to the mountain, both in the greatness and power signified by the mountain and also from the mountain’s relation to the human breast. While this might sound bizarre, consider the contexts in which God is revealed as “Shaddai.” God is “El Shaddai” when He makes prophetic promises which appear to be, at first glance, extremely unlikely. God promises the barren and decrepit that they will have countless children. How can we trust this promise? Because God is mighty as the great mountains. And what is being promised? A family- God will give the family of Abraham a fresh birth and nourish them with milk in their promised land. The imagery of birth is used in Deuteronomy 32 among other places: the Lord “gave [Israel] birth.”

The God with the power to give birth through the barren and do the impossible is the God who is the living and regenerative Almighty.

“The Lord” is revealed in exodus because the word “Yahweh” signifies the One who actively fulfills the promises made. The phrase “I am who I am” is transtemporal and can be read “I was who I was”, “I am who I am” and “I will be who I will be.” This is why in the Apocalypse, the Lord God is described as He who “was and is and is to come.” When Yahweh reveals the Name to Moses, He does so in the context of revealing the imminent fulfillment of the Abrahamic promise in Genesis 15. The enactment of the exodus is the public revelation of the God of Abraham as the Existent One, He who is sovereign in all things and does according to His will to be gracious to a sinful nation and judge the wicked. Moses tells Pharoah that God does these things precisely in order that “my Name might be proclaimed throughout all the Earth.” The tabernacle and temple is described as a place where God sets the Name. Israel may build altars wherever the “Name” is remembered. In Exodus 32-34, we read the most important text in the whole Hebrew Bible concerning the revelation of the Name. Israel has sinned against God and has made His dwelling personally in their midst dangerous. Moses ascends the mountain, the Lord tells him to enter into a cave, and we are told that the Lord “descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the Name of the Lord.”

The proclamation of that Name is a proclamation of God’s character governing His relationship with the creation and undergirding His gracious renewal of the covenant with Israel. He is full of steadfast love and faithfulness, pardoning iniquity, showing His grace to thousands of generations, but also judging iniquity to the fourth generation. This text is echoed throughout the prophets and the New Testament. The statement that Jesus is “full of grace and truth” echoes Exodus 34 in its Greek translation. God’s love is more ultimate than His judgment, but His judgment is a real and sobering reality to which we must attend. The revelation of this Name in divine glory transforms Moses. His being placed in the cave signifies death, going into the Earth. The hand of the Lord is upon him, creating a bond between the Lord and the prophet. And when Moses descends, his face radiates with the glory of God, so that Israel exhibits the very same fear they exhibited when God descended in glory on Sinai. Moses is veiled just as the Lord is veiled. The revelation of the Divine Name is such that it recreates the person by their being drawn into that Name, sharing in these qualities.

It is the promise of divine faithfulness which is most relevant in considering the theology of the sacraments. Throughout the scriptures, the “calling on the Name of the Lord” occurs in a liturgical and ritual context. In Genesis 12:8 and 13:4, Abraham calls upon the Name of the Lord at an altar. The same thing happens to Isaac in Genesis 26:5. Moreover, these altars are built in the immediate context of God revealing Himself and making a promise. When Elijah builds the altar at Carmel, he challenges the priests of Baal to “call on the name” of their god as he will “call upon the Name of the Lord.” In light of everything we have seen, “calling on the Name of the Lord” is best understood as a ritual expression of trust in the divine promises. God has promised to act in a specific way and He will always fulfill that promise.

The altar is a liturgical symbol of the holy mountain, after all, a ladder to heaven through which the glory-fire of God flows to Earth. It is at the altar that the person comes to meet God. The underlying logic of the sacrificial system depends on these expressions of faith. The ascension offering of Leviticus 1 symbolically re-enacts Israel’s exodus from Egypt and covenant with the Lord at Sinai. An Israelite who wishes to manifest or restore his relationship with the gracious Lord performs certain actions as the Lord commanded. Having done what the Lord commanded, He trusts that the Lord will do what He has promised to do when these commands are followed. To “call on the Name of the Lord” is to ask the Lord to fulfill the promises He has made. The Name which is called upon denotes this particular fidelity.

In Zephaniah, we are told that God will change the lip of the nations to be a pure lip. The word “lip” does not principally denote a national language. Its usage throughout the Hebrew Bible reveals the lip to be the instrument by which one calls upon one’s god. As David says of the false gods: “their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out, nor take their names on my lips.” Isaiah 19, prophesying the healing of Egypt and Assyria, Israel’s oppressor nations, states that four out of five cities will speak one lip with the redeemed Israel. And in Genesis 11, we read that the human family was both of one lip and one language. The twofold nature of the Babel-project was sacral and cultural. There was a tower (a temple and ladder to heaven) and a city. There was both a false profession and a false, undifferentiated unity. Both are scattered. God creates a plenitude of nations and turns the idolaters against one another. The builders sought to utilize this false religion to exalt themselves, giving themselves a “great Name.” It is in the aftermath of the collapse of the Babel-project that God promises Abraham a “great Name” in the city which is to come. Abraham builds a true altar and calls upon the Name of the true God.

Zephaniah 3 thus speaks of the gathering of the many-tongued nations around a single, true altar, at which the pure lip of divine worship is restored. All nations “call upon the Name of the Lord and serve Him with one accord.” (Zephaniah 3:9) In light of the literary unity of the Twelve Prophets (Hosea-Malachi), we see this to be a further exploration of the word given to Joel. God will “pour out” His “Spirit on all flesh.” It is on that day that “all who call on the Name of the Lord will be saved.” The Spirit of God descends to create a family of nations attached to Israel as the heirs of promise, a family brought into One Name and reborn in and through that Name. Through the Spirit, men “call upon the Name of the Lord” and are saved. Indeed, Joel 2:32 uses the very same word in both directions: “all who **call** on the Name of the Lord will be saved” and “among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord **calls.**” [In context of the Twelve, the survivors refer to people who are redeemed through the world’s being turned upside down. Being redeemed, they come to Zion and are made holy, in the direct presence of God.]

As Paul says in Hebrews 11, we are promised a beautiful inheritance. The possession of that inheritance comes through walking with God through faith. “Whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.” God has promised to forgive our sins when we repent. He has promised the indwelling Holy Spirit who will engrave the words of the Incarnate Word on our heart. Faith means trusting that God will be faithful to give everything He promised. To “draw near” to God means to enter into His presence. The “city which was to come” spoken of by Paul is the city suffused and irradiated with divine presence. It is that very city on Zion to which the nations who call on the Name of the Lord are gathered.

Baptism and Eucharist are the preeminent acts by which we liturgically “call upon the Name of the Lord.” In both cases, we have direct instructions from Jesus Christ. We are to baptize in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are to “do” the Lord’s Supper as the covenant memorial of Christ’s work. Faith undergirds baptism precisely because it is faith which trusts that God will do exactly what He said He would do in the baptismal waters. God said “if you do this, I will meet you here.” And it is in that meeting that we are given the new Name in His Name, reborn unto a resurrected and glorified life. Baptism is usually not attended by a dramatic and visible sign of God’s miraculous presence. Faith affirms that He will do and has done precisely what He promised in the waters of baptism. The same is true of the Eucharist. In the celebration of the Eucharist, the Church joins its work to the perfect work of Christ. Christ gathers up all creation into His Memory and wholly offers it to God the Father. That a human being made this perfect offering repairs the rupture which came in the fall. When joined to the offering of Christ, the ubiquitous imperfections in our offering die with Christ so that only the gold remains. The Church gathers up the manifold wisdom of God throughout the cosmos and offers it, in glorified, transfigured form, to God the Father, fulfilling the divine purpose given to the human family.

The Sign of the Fleece

AKA The True Namers, the Baal Chem

In the Beginning was YHVH and He created all life.

The Holy Tetragrammaton has puzzled religious thinkers and mystical speculators about its simplicity, complexity, and its promise for climbing closer in our understanding of Him. Each letter was an engine of creation which pointed in different directions but was the whole. Although it was a sacred duty to meditate upon these things, there where hucksters who also worshiped the power of God but sought to manipulate it. Through rearranging the order of words so the combinations could unlock power, create magick.

These sorcerers were the Baal Shem; the thieves of knowledge and blasphemers with the ability to decode and remake all creation. They were true adepts of their time, recognizable in their attitude and execution of their magick.

As the years waned and cultures grew, interest in sorcery changed, new things were accepted and old ideas lost their flexibility. And so did the Baal Shem, with their ever ready YHVH words of power. Their rules went into the cold storage of old books written by magickally dry occultists. And so they were passed down, flittered about in discussions, and occasionally studied.

But old, powerful ideas do not die easy, they can spontaneously resurrect when the correct grail is found, the hollow idea which can be filled with the liquid of pure imagination and will. And so with one student of ancient occult, it happened, he saw the book and magazine lying side by side, open to the right pages.

On one page was YHVH, the other, AGCT. And then everything just fell into place like a puzzle assembling in reverse motion. Religious philosophy and genetic science were one and the same.

It wasn’t a complete cohesion, some puzzle pieces where in backwards, or the wrong way around. He would have to keep looking at the larger pattern, before finding the small inconsistencies. Of course changing one tiny piece altered the larger pattern, so it is hard work and the gains are few but one day it will be completed, and God’s face will be seen.

AGCT is the Tetragrammaton, the True Genome, the Unpronounceable Name of God. Our individual genomes are our True Names two-billion characters long, and by rewriting our True Names, we can cause a miraculous change, a new creation.

As above, so below is the running irony of the Baal Chem. It is the apotheosis of everything else that makes us human, but not actually us; deep in all the bone, blood, meat, gristle is where God sits, in the tiny arrangements of molecules, the delicate chains of deoxyribonucleic acid that exists innocuously in every living parcel. The most powerful information coherence in the world built of the most of fragile filigree. The most powerful being of the universe is the also one of the weakest.

Through our consensual landfill of waste religious orthodoxy and mythology we abandoned God, and through our embrace of science and experiment, we have found Him again. We have found him in all of us, the destiny in everything that lives.

And so the school of the Baal Chemistry was born, alchemically uniting old magick and modern science; uniting Baal Shem and Genetics, and making the magick of God’s Chemicals.

STATS

Baal Chemistry is in not in its infancy, but there are few practitioners, mostly in the Middle East, but migrating outwards. The basics are already down but the school is not going to progress unless the students learn Hebrew, or the science of molecular chemistry, or both. It doesn’t have to be to rigorous academic standards but the skills must be bought.

Although firmly rooted in Hebrew mysticism Baal Chemistry isn’t a Jewish school. Anyone with adept potential can learn the school.

Baal Chem relies on the sympathetic law of imitation. The law is quite simple, if anything appears like something else, it will act upon that something else. The Baal Chem use a symbolic version of the Law of Imitation, the Law of Names.

One side of the Baal Chemist’s genetic sorcery is that successful significant effects alter the DNA permanently which might throw off testing.

Blast Style: The Baal Chem can bobby trap scrolls to give blasts but it cause sickness or even cancer. Although the spells are slow they may be fatal over a long period of time.

Random Magick Domain: random magick is antithetical to Baal Chemistry. They might lack true diversity, but the Tetragrammatists can stack magicakal effects on top of each other unlike any other school.

Generate a minor charge: For four hours study the Bible, cabala, The Tetragrammaton, and other tracts of Jewish mysticism, or write an essay condensing your findings.

Generate a significant charge: There are no Significant charges only significant effects generated by actively manipulating the genetic code in yourself or others.

Generate a major charge: Discover a lost tract on the Tetragrammaton and be the first to study it. Discover a break though in genetics research, such as controlling the telomere cancer-cellular mitosis relationship. Work a change over ten years that works.

Taboo: Their work is sacred and may never be abandoned. If the Baal Chemist is ever interrupted from his significant works, they reset and have to be started over again.

The Baal Chem cannot touch any separated tissue or fluids of the target that are derived from injury. Touching blood and other tissues breaks taboo as the law of imitation is subverting by the law of contagion. If the Baal Chem gets splashed with a limited amount of tissue, he can scrub off to avoid taboo.

The temple of the Baal Chemist is generally as close to sterile as any scientific laboratory.

Unlike other adepts, The renamers can incorporate different spells into one, as long as they add up the time taken and roll their Magick: Baal Chemistry skill.

Minor Baal Chemistry Formula Spells

A (one minor charge) The Baal Chemist can diagnose any living body and give a pretty accurate idea of what is going on at that time.

T (one minor charge) The Baal Chemist can correct minor imperfections, purge the body of toxins, exhaustion, and turn back the body’s clock limitedly for about as many months as the sum of the Magick: Ball Chemistry skill. This doesn’t regenerate lost limbs or heal damage, but it removes and smoothes imperfections like scars, wrinkles, and acne, hangovers, reduces infections, cleans the system, and improves the person’s sense of well being. A person with this spell heals 1 wound point has a +10% on all his first stress check afterwards.

The Baal Chemist will use T as a cleansing preparation before performing a procedure.

C (two minor charges) The Genetic Tetragrammatist can improve healing and assist in recovery by rolling his Magick: Baal Chemistry skill as if he was a doctor.

G (three minor charges) This minor blast spell makes the target’s body react as if it were invaded by foreign germs. The target suffers from a debilitating fever. Unless the character gets bed rest for as many days as the sum of the Magick: Baal Chemistry skill, he cannot heal through convalescence. If the character is actively physically stressing his body, he takes one wound point per roll whether successful or not.

Significant Baal Chemistry formula effects

Targeted effects The significant effects do not have to be performed with the target present, but the Baal Chemist must at least have some knowledge of who the person is, to have some idea of the person’s True Name. Basically this: no name -10%, no picture -10%, no basic personality profile -10%, or no truthful history -10%. If the Baal Chemist can touch the victim, the penalty is reduced by 30%. The Baal Chem cannot increase his skill this way.

Rearranging Genomes The spells are basically formulations, long strings of the Tetragrammaton characters AG and CT written on paper scrolls. The paper can be worn as an amulet or scrunched up and swallowed as a pill. Placing the spell on unknowing or unwilling targets is a bit problematic but nothing that can be solving without some quick thinking, sneaky long-fingers or elbow-greasing thugs.

Once the spell is on the person’s body, it takes about an hour to ready or activate. Removing the scroll before then diffuses the magick but the scroll is still active.

For a safety measure the scrolls can actually described to target a specific person, who is listed Tetragrammatically in the formulation.

The Abundance of God’s Blessing (One days work) By spending one day working the Baal Chemist can regenerate one point of Body. This includes the slow re-growth of lost limbs and organs. This spell cannot replace damaged tissue just replace what is missing. Due to the complexity of tissue re-growth it might take many weeks or months before the area is restored.

The Passion of David (One days work) The target may re-roll one failed but non-magickal Soul-based skill and Speed-based skill roll.

A Visitation from the Angel of Betrayal (Two days work) The Baal Chemist can disrupt cellular activity by scribbling over the cell’s ability to control their own division, allowing them to multiply unstoppably into cancerous tissue.

After spell is cast, the opponent rolls his Body stat once per week. If it fails he takes the highest die in damage to his Body. This roll continues once per week until either the cancer kills the target or he successful convalesces, healing his Body back to full while not taking any damage. At which point the cancer has gone into permanent remission. Otherwise, if the cancer is detected within the first month, it can be safely removed.

The Legacy for Esau (Three days work) The next four Mind stat or skill checks are flip-flopped to their worst result. Obsession skills simply do not flip-flop.

The Sword of God (Three days work) The Sword of God is a strange blast spell. It invokes rage in anyone interacting with the target. No everyday things like buying from the market or speaking to people at your office, but when a roll is required. If the roll fails, it triggers their Rage Passion.

There isn’t much control over the situation, but at the wrong time with the right person, the results can be fatal. The person tagged with the Sword of God comes across as hiding crucial personal secrets, arrogant, and irritating. Triggering the anger doesn’t cause a stress check, only the results of it do.

The Sword of God works once.

Blessings on the House (Four days work) With this spell the ability to conceive a child is made better. Not only is the act blessed to be fruitful (the Fertility chance is half of Body), one partner gets a flip-flopping and the other, a re-roll, but the sex of the child can be chosen by the one who rolled highest. This scroll works once per sexual encounter.

The Lions of Daniel (Four days work) While the target is protected by the Lions of Daniel, it triggers or creates the Noble Passion of the animals for the benefit of the target, regardless of how they are feeling or trained to act. The animal certainly won’t attack but it might not let the character pass an area it was set to guard. Animals might even get playful and unintentionally hurt the target.

Wild dogs will not attack her, but they will maul clothing and bags to get to food, rats will climb and nuzzle their way inside her clothing. Once the spell is in effect it lasts twenty-four hours.

Loss of the Innocence of Eden (Five days work) This spell rewrites history recorded onto genetic memory, the target’s twenty billion character True Name. The successful roll can rearrange three failed and hard notches from any three chosen meters. The notches can be placed on any other gauge, Hard or Failed.

Perfecting the Perfect (Five days work) This scroll permanently removes any inherited genetic disease from a person unless the disease has already manifested. The disease’s harmfulness is eradicated and will not pass it along the target’s germline from that point.

Once the genetic malfunction has manifested, there is nothing the Baal Chem can do about it.

The Flesh of Methuselah (Six days work) This spell rejuvenates the target’s body effectively removing the debilitating effects of tissue damage, decrepitude, injury, and internally halving the person’s age. Externally there is little actual change but the spry person may act and thus look younger. Cosmetic surgery and extensive spa treatments may help further at this point.

This spell heals Wound Points equal to the sum of the Magick: Ball Chemistry roll.

Void of the Nameless (Seven days work) The dead are generally beyond the purview of the Baal Chemist. If you do not have a body you have no True Name, their lives are over and thus Nameless. With Void of the Nameless, a possessed person can regain control over his or her body by imprisoning the demon within their mind, and like an oyster, form a psychic pearl around the irritant.

This spell forces the demon to roll possession to escape or be trapped in the victim’s mind as he regains control. It is crushed underneath the awakening mind, trapped. The victim may have dim dreams.

Unless the demon has some magickal means of escaping it is trapped in some disused and sound-proofed basement of the victim’s mind. Over time the entity just decays into oblivion.

The Void of the Nameless is also proof against possession attempts in the first place. The possessing entity just smacks into the target’s body like it was solid.

Once the demon is imprisoned, it is there permanently. The spell gives twenty-four hours protection once activated.

The Lamentations of Solomon (Eight days work) The spell allows the target to increase his Mind and Soul stat at a rate of one experience point per Stat point. The maximum number of purchases is equal to the sum of the Magick: Baal Chemistry roll. This spell only raises the stats, not the skills.

Major Baal Chemistry Effects Change one species into another, read God’s will in someone’s genome, eradicate aging, raise stats to superhuman levels, create the perfect killer immune system, grow a perfect clone body in a few hours, permanently remove all genetic imperfections and disease from a person.

Reading for December 9th 2 Kings 10

This definitely sounds strange, but I would have liked to meet Jehu. Jehu is extremely bold. Certifiably nuts, but bold nonetheless. God commissioned Jehu to remove His enemies from the land, and that takes a “special” type of person. It makes me think of Ehud back in the book of Judges. When the land of Israel has become so corrupt that God can’t stand it anymore, He sends in warriors. Men and women who are prepared to fight and die for the Lord. They are not there to negotiate or to convert, but to sift the wheat from the chaff.

Jehu obliterates Ahab’s family, extended family, friends, officials, and priests from the earth. Then he finds those who would be allied with Ahab and kills them, too. And this was committed “just as the Lord had promised through Elijah.” God has no tolerance for evil.

Next, Jehu moves onto the priests and followers of Baal. In a very sly move, he goads all the followers into what seems to be a celebration at the temple of Baal. Then, once assembled, he and his soldiers kill all of them. He destroys and burns the temple, but makes one important mistake. Jehu keeps the gold idols. God ordered complete destruction. Also, Jehu had a heart issue. He didn’t serve God with all of it, and continued to sin.

When it’s all said and done, Revelation will be like this. Jesus will come back to separate the wheat from the chaff. Judgment will come and the time of negotiation will have ended. Today, there is an incredible amount of Christian writing on the love, grace, peace, and comfort of God. As there should be. However, we mustn’t forget that God is also righteous, fair, and just. These seemingly opposite characteristics are equally and perfectly balanced both in God and in Jesus.

Revelation 19:11-16

Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

to unveil spiritual truth.

Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 3rd chapter of the Letter of Ephesians:

All this is exactly why I, Paul, am a prisoner of Jesus the Anointed, His representative to the outsider nations. You have heard, haven’t you, how God appointed me to bring you His message of grace? And how the mystery was made known to me in a revelation? I briefly wrote about it earlier. When you read what I have written, you will be better able to understand the depth of my insight into the mystery of the Anointed One, a mystery that has never before been shown to past generations. Only now are these secrets being revealed to God’s chosen emissaries and prophets through the Holy Spirit. Specifically, the mystery is this: by trusting in the good news, the Gentile outsiders are becoming fully enfranchised members of the same body, heirs alongside Israel, and beneficiaries of the promise that has been fulfilled through Jesus the Anointed.

I became a servant and preacher of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace as He exercised His amazing power over me. I cannot think of anyone more unworthy to this cause than I, the least of the least of the saints. But here I am, a grace-made man, privileged to be an echo of His voice and a preacher to all the nations of the riches of the Anointed One, riches that no one ever imagined. I am privileged to enlighten all of Adam’s descendants to the mystery concealed from previous ages by God, the Creator of all, through Jesus the Anointed. Here’s His objective: through the church, He intends now to make known His infinite and boundless wisdom to all rulers and authorities in heavenly realms. This has been His plan from the beginning, one that He has now accomplished through the Anointed One, Jesus our Lord. His faithfulness to God has made it possible for us to have the courage we need and the ability to approach the Father confidently. So I ask you not to become discouraged because I am jailed for speaking out on your behalf. In fact, my suffering is something that brings you glory.

It is for this reason that I bow my knees before the Father, after whom all families in heaven above and on earth below receive their names, and pray:

Father, out of Your honorable and glorious riches, strengthen Your people. Fill their souls with the power of Your Spirit so that through faith the Anointed One will reside in their hearts. May love be the rich soil where their lives take root. May it be the bedrock where their lives are founded so that together with all of Your people they will have the power to understand that the love of the Anointed is infinitely long, wide, high, and deep, surpassing everything anyone previously experienced. God, may Your fullness flood through their entire beings.

Now to the God who can do so many awe-inspiring things, immeasurable things, things greater than we ever could ask or imagine through the power at work in us, to Him be all glory in the church and in Jesus the Anointed from this generation to the next, forever and ever. Amen.

The Letter of Ephesians, Chapter 3 (The Voice)

Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 7th chapter of the book of Jeremiah about the importance of honesty before God and others:

“But instead, you are clinging to lies and illusions that are worthless.”

[Jeremiah 7]

The word of the Eternal came to Jeremiah.

Eternal One: Go now and take a stand for Me at the entrance to My temple. Proclaim there My message. Tell all the people of Judah who enter these gates to worship the Eternal to stop and listen to the word of the Eternal. Tell them this is what I, the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies and God of Israel, have to say:

“Change your ways and stop what you are doing, and I will let you live in this land. Do not rely on the misguided words, ‘The temple of the Eternal, the temple of the Eternal, the temple of the Eternal,’ as if the temple’s presence alone will protect you. But if you genuinely change your ways and stop what you are doing; if you deal with each other fairly; if you don’t oppress foreigners, orphans, and widows; if you don’t shed the blood of the innocent in this land; and if you don’t practice the self-destructive worship of other gods; then I will let you live forever in this land I promised your ancestors long ago.

“But instead, you are clinging to lies and illusions that are worthless. Do you think you can steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and chase after other gods and still expect Me to protect you? Do you think all it takes is for you to run back to Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, ‘We’re safe now’? Does this somehow make it all right to do these vile things in front of Me? Do you think this house, which is called by My name, is a den of thieves? I see what you’re doing.

“Go and take notice of what happened in Shiloh, the place where I first met your ancestors in the tabernacle that bore My name. See what I did in response to the wickedness of My people, Israel. Now, because of all the evil you have done, and because when I spoke to you time and again you never listened, and because when I called your name you never answered, watch what I will do to this house which bears My name, this sacred place I gave to you and your fathers. I will do to this temple, where you have put your trust, what I did to Shiloh all those years ago. I will throw you from My presence, just as I did to all your kinsmen in the Northern Kingdom, the descendants of Ephraim.”

(to Jeremiah) Don’t pray or plead for these people. No matter how badly you want to come to Me on their behalf, don’t bother. For I won’t hear such cries from you. Can’t you see what’s happening in the villages throughout Judah and even in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather the firewood, the fathers tend the fire, and the mothers bake the bread for the so-called queen of heaven! The people pour out drink offerings in honor of other gods as if to spite Me. What they are doing doesn’t hurt me; it only hurts them, to their own disgrace. Now hear what I, the Eternal Lord, declare: “The heat of My anger will pour out on this land, on man and beast, on the trees of the field and the fruit of the soil. My wrath will burn through this place and not be quenched.

This is what the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies and God of Israel, has to say:

Eternal One: Treat your burnt offerings the way you treat other sacrifices. Go ahead and eat the meat yourselves. I won’t have any part of it. When I freed your ancestors from slavery in Egypt, burnt offerings and sacrifices were not something I required of them. I wanted them to trust Me and obey My voice. In those early days, I told them, “I will be your God, and you will be My people. Follow Me every step of the way into a life that is good.” But they didn’t trust Me. They didn’t obey My voice. They refused to listen to Me. Instead they followed the plans of their own stubborn hearts. Each step was a step backward, not forward. From the time your ancestors left Egypt until now, I have shown them the way to a better life. Day after day, I sent all of My servants, the prophets, to speak the truth. But did any of them listen or pay attention? Did they change their ways? No, they only hardened their resolve to go their own way. Each generation has done more evil than the generation before.

(to Jeremiah) This is how I want you to speak to the people—say it all, don’t hold anything back—but they won’t hear you. Your voice will call throughout the land, but no one will answer you. And so you will say to them, “This is the nation that dared not obey the voice of the Eternal, their one True God. This is the people who would not be taught.” Truth has died and disappeared from their very lips.

Shave your head and throw your hair away, for it is time to mourn.

Climb the hills and grieve for the darkness has gone too far.

The Eternal has rejected His faithless people;

He has forsaken this generation that has stirred up His wrath.

For the people of Judah have done what is plainly evil right in front of Me. They have brought their revolting idols into My temple! They have desecrated this place that stands in honor of My name. They have built shrines to other gods at Topheth, the garbage dump in the valley of Ben-hinnom, where they sacrifice their own sons and daughters and burn them in the fire to dark and pagan gods. I never taught them to do such unspeakable evil; it never even crossed My mind. But I tell you this: the days are coming when that place will no longer be known as Topheth, or the garbage dump in the valley of Ben-hinnom. But it will be called the valley of Slaughter, for they will bury the bodies of those who sacrifice children there until there is no more room. The remains of these wicked people will feed the vultures of the sky and wild animals of the earth because no one will be there to scare them away. I will silence the sounds of laughter and joy from the villages of Judah to the streets of Jerusalem. Even the joy of a wedding will not be heard in this land of ruin.

The Torah of Moses teaches that a defect-free male lamb should be sacrificed and roasted at the appointed time every year, eaten with matzah and bitter herbs, as a memorial of the redemption from Egypt (Num. 9:2, Deut. 16:1-8) -- yet today, after the ministry and sacrificial death of Yeshua as the Lamb of God, we no longer perform the sacrificial rite of the Passover given to the Levites on behalf of Israel. We do not do this because we have a greater priesthood based on the sworn oath of God that predates the Levitical priesthood in the life of the Messiah (Psalm 110:4). This is explained in the Book of Hebrews, chapter seven, which explains that "if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? But when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well" (Heb. 7:11-12). The bottom line is that the new covenant of God centers on the sacrificial ministry of Yeshua as our Great High Priest, and this covenant provided a new way that was "not according to the covenant made with the fathers at Sinai after the Exodus" to be in right relationship with God (Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 8:1-13). "And when Messiah had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by one offering He has perfected forever those being sanctified" (Heb. 10:14).

So it is clear - if you believe the message of the gospel - that God has abolished the role of animal sacrifice in the law of Moses through the death of his Son as our eternal atonement (Heb. 9:12-15). "Because the law (of sacrifice) made nothing perfect, a better hope is introduced, and that is how we draw near to God" (Heb. 7:19). The veil of separation has been torn in the body of our Lord (Matt. 27:51; Mark 15:38; Heb. 10:12); and through the intercession and mediation of Yeshua, we now have direct access to the presence of God by faith (Heb. 4:16). The great prophesy of Caiaphas was fulfilled: " it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish" (John 11:49-50). Yeshua himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but for the whole world" (1 John 2:1-2; Rom. 3:25). As the Lawgiver of Reality, the LORD has the power and authority to introduce a "new covenant," and indeed were it not for that great blessing we would have no means of eternal redemption under the law. Yeshua "takes away the first covenant that he might establish the second" (see Heb. 10:4-18).

But what about other aspects of the law of Moses besides sacrifices? To begin answering that question, we must distinguish between the idea of "law" and the idea of "covenant." The law, or Torah, of the LORD means something more than the words of the covenant given at Sinai. Torah is rightly understood as God's direction or teaching regarding how to be in right relationship with him. That is the Apostle Paul's point in the book of Galatians where he points to Abraham as one who kept God's Torah 400 years before the time of Sinai. Abraham obeyed God's Torah before the time of giving of the covenant at Sinai! That said, there is a relationship between a divine "covenant" (or "agreement") and the law, though the idea of covenant is more basic, and Torah is understood as our response to the underlying covenant. Torah, then, is a "function word" of covenant, expressing our obligations - ritual, moral, spiritual, etc., - in relation to that covenant. Where this may get confusing is that while both Moses' teaching is Torah, and Yeshua's teaching is Torah, and while there is overlap and continuity in moral and spiritual application, the Sinai covenant and the covenant of the Cross at Zion are mutually exclusive ways to attain atonement before God, and that is why followers of Yeshua do not offer animal sacrifices for their sins, etc., even though the sacrificial system itself assuredly bore witness to the coming of the great Lamb of God (Rom. 3:21; Num. 28:3). The same point can be made regarding other aspects of the teachings of Moses such as various religious and civil laws, laws of warfare and capital punishment, laws regarding "clean and unclean" (ritual purity), dietary law, and so on. The "weightier" matters of the law given at Sinai are preserved and incorporated into the new covenant, as the law provided a "pattern" or "analogy" of what was to come (Heb. 10:1), yet the ritual laws of sacrifice are now abolished by the new and better covenant of the Messiah (see Heb. 8:6).

So you see, followers of Messiah must be philosophers of sorts, that is, those who think deeply about the underlying meaning and purpose of God as revealed in the Scriptures. After all, Yeshua often taught in parables and used metaphors in his teaching (Matt. 13:35; John 6:35, 8:12, 10:9-11, etc.). When he said that he was “the door,” he didn’t expect us to look for a door knob on him (John 10:7-9)! When he warned his followers about the “leaven” of the religious leaders, he chided his disciples for thinking about material bread (Matt. 16:5-12). Indeed Yeshua was often exasperated with his followers for missing the point (Matt. 15:6; Luke 24:25-26). He regularly spoke of the "mysteries of the kingdom of God" (Luke 8:10; Mark 4:11). He taught his followers how to see the meaning of the redemption, of true healing, and of God's kingdom. "The wisdom of God is given in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world for our glory" (1 Cor. 2:7; Rom. 16:25-26). We must learn to reason analogically and rightly divide (ὀρθοτομέω, i.e., "cut straight") the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15). "We impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual" (1 Cor. 2:13). We discern the "weightier" matters of the Torah to center on God's love for his people and his salvation given in Yeshua our Messiah. He is the Light of the world, the Bread of Life, and our Good Shepherd. Amen: He is the way and the truth and the life of God given for us. [Hebrew for Christians]

The Lord Jehovah

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2)

The English name usually written LORD in English Bibles stems from the Hebrew word Yahweh, the meaning of which cannot be fully put into words. Although scholars differ (some even claiming there is no real meaning to the word at all), the consensus is that it seems to be a compound of the three tenses of the Hebrew verb “to be,” implying the ever-living nature of God to which Christ was referring when He said, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8). Note also the similar implications in God’s announcement of Himself to Moses: “And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am” (Exodus 3:14).

On 49 special occasions (seven times seven), the name Jehovah is contracted to Jah. Many consider this to be an abbreviation of Jehovah, but no satisfactory explanation as to why it is so used has been offered. Perhaps a better suggestion is that this name is the present tense of the verb “to be,” and therefore the name Jah emphasizes the present activity of the Lord. In nearly all occurrences, the passages are strengthened by noting the present work of God. The first usage of the term Jah is found in Miriam’s Song upon deliverance from Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea. “The LORD [Jah] is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation” (Exodus 15:2).

On several occasions, such as in our text, we see that the two names are combined, celebrating both the present and future deliveries of Jah Jehovah. “Trust ye in the LORD [Jehovah] for ever: for in the LORD [Jah] JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:4). JDM

Truly Respected

“Then those who feared the LORD spoke with each other, and the LORD listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and loved to think about him.” Mal 4:16CEV

Have you ever walked into a room and felt the room hush? Like everyone had been talking about you. Your sudden entrance stymied their flow of words. I can testify, it’s a very uncomfortable feeling. Back in the days before Christ, this frequently happened to me.

Malachi was relating to a church group of people who were constantly talking behind God’s back, so to speak— talking against the Lord. Obviously, from all God was saying in this chapter, they were talking smack— ‘what good does it pay to serve Jesus.’ This wasn’t a church after the cross, knowing the mercies of God. Nor was it a people experiencing regular miraculous healings. As God’s current church of the day, they’s lost all respect for Him. Have we done any better?

What they had experienced— God talked to them through His prophets, as they’d asked Him to do at Mount Sinai. They in turn didn’t believe His true prophets and disrespected Him. He’d allowed them to endure repeatedly being captured. As satan as does, everything was taken away from them for punishment. Yahweh God had rescued them, time and again, as they cried for His help. Did they learn to appreciate Him alone? No!

Churches are filled with people who put in their Sunday service Christianity. Others work committees, while not having any relationship with Jesus Christ. Our preacher prays for other preachers, who’ve never made Jesus the Lord of their lives. These preachers are equivalent to the Israelite priests.

Are you aware, the book of Malachi is the last communication besides the Maccabees, (writings which aren’t accepted as scriptural canon,) God had with the Israelites for several hundred years before Jesus? People had sunk so low, Yahweh tired of talking to them.

Yet, there was this group— These people didn’t berate God. They loved Him; looked forward to His coming; even, talked to each other about His goodness. They truly respected the Lord, as Lord Most High God.

In Elijah’s day, God told him, “Yet I will leave 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal…” 1King 19:18NASB. In Daniel’s time, we know of several knees who didn’t bow— Nehemiah, Ezra, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. In our day there are many who haven’t bowed to the multiple gods, we are offered to worship.

God spares His true people in the time of trouble. Daniel survived the lions untouched. Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah weren’t burnt in the fiery furnace. Nehemiah overcame, while rebuilding the wall. Ezra cleaned out the temple. Through God miracles do happen.

My cousin called. Her sole purpose in calling was to praise the Lord for several answers to prayer. As she praised God for her son’s salvation, I heard in my heart— Mal. 3:17CEV “Then the LORD All-Powerful said: You people are precious to me, and when I come to bring justice, I will protect you, just as parents protect an obedient child.”

There are parallel passages at Isaiah 36:1-3 and 2 Chronicles 32:1-9.

In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of King Hoshea son of Elah of Israel, King Shalmaneser of Assyria came up against Samaria, besieged it, and at the end of three years, took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of King Hoshea of Israel, Samaria was taken. The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria, settled them in Halah, on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant—all that Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded; they neither listened nor obeyed.

In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, King Sennacherib of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them. And the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah shall be defiled like the place of Topheth—all the houses upon whose roofs offerings have been made to the whole host of heaven, and libations have been poured out to other gods.¹

When Jeremiah came from Topheth, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy, he stood in the court of the Lord's house and said to all the people: Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I am now bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their necks, refusing to hear my words.

¹Stephen refers to this verse in Acts 7:42, part of his defense before the Sanhedrin ( Acts 7:1-53).

New Testament Epistle Lesson: 1 Timothy 4:6-16

If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with profane myths and old wives’ tales. Train yourself in godliness, for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and struggle, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all people, especially of those who believe.

These are the things you must insist on and teach. Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I arrive, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhorting, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.

The Bible study Saturday on a Friday night!!!!

Why? Because God is my priority not a convenience......

Book of Matthew 4:18-22

Wow!!! Can I just say this one of my most favorite verses in the book of Matthew. It truly warms my heart “Fishers of men”. There are a couple of verses I just love of the Bible:....”no old wine in new wine skins, fishers of men, pick up your bed and walk, from the fire not smelling of smoke, and let thy will be done.” God is soooo good to us. I am so very much in love. I have never felt so complete. Sooo whole. Soo loved. Soo put together, then when I have truly loved God with all my heart, mind, and soul; which is what God wants. I don’t feel the urge or need for anything else, except to learn more, grow more, and truly love God; but love God right. We all know people who say they love someone or love something, but loving someone or something right is a whole other story...am I right or am I right???!!!!

(a) Yeshua Jesus Christ, walking by the Sea of Galilee walks upon two brothers; (b)Peter and Andrew. Now, bare with me y'all cause its about to get truthful and a bit crazy......

(b)Who was Peter? Peter was born Simon. Yeshua gave Peter his name. Many suggest when Peter was baptized/reborn and followed Yeshua, the changing of his name was an outward symbolism of his covenant with Yeshua/God. Many Christian’s change their name to this day in the same practice/symbolism. Fun personal fact, I too did change my name when I became reborn. What was it before Marie? To the 1st person who guesses correctly I will personally buy you and mail out to you; your own copy of the study Bible that I use. Yes there is a catch. 1. email me at [email protected]. your guess 2. Don’t worry, just guess the first name I was born with. 3. You can not be someone who knows me before the year 2008. 4. Now, back to Peter. Peter was a flawed man. Say what? Yes, Flawed. Say what???!!! Well, he doubted, he cursed, he yelled, he had a temper; so bad Yeshua even scolded him on several occasions....Later Peter even he lied, denied knowing/following Yeshua. Don’t believe me? Well, we shall see later in the book of Matthew. But, like someone else who was awesome yet flawed, and I quote,” I can not tell a lie”. What does this say to me? Well, what I think we can all take from this is/are several things: Yeshua/God never expected us to be prefect. God knew we would fail from time to time. But, God wants us to try to the best of our abilities. God knows our true heart. Later, we will review how even after Peter denied knowing Yeshua, he felt guilty, he repented, and was forgiven. Peter went on to make things “right” by continuing God’s work for the reminder of his life here on earth. I say this, because I know many out there believe they have done too much wrong to be forgiven. Many out there are condemned time after time by those closes to them for their short comings and or failures, but I say to you the same as Yeshua says. Give your life over to God, with a humble and open heart, receive Christ into your life, and be saved. Receive grace. Receive life ever lasting. Be made whole as God intended not as the world disrupted.

And to others who are judgy-wudgy...well, stop. Please stop. Someone who is being judged harshly, may be on their last leg towards redemption and harsh words can be what's holding them back from truly receiving Christ into their life. So many are about to take their life, based off of hearing harsh words repeating over and over in their head. There are people out there this very second, who feel worthless and like their life is over; a kind word from us could be what saves them. Now am I saying be a fool? No. Am I saying be deceived? No. But, sometimes it is true that some need to hit rock bottom. (AKA, be turnover to themselves) In order to understand what they have done to their life and the life of to others. Maybe God is using us to be the one that will help lead them to Christ. So, don’t reject a hand reaching up for help. But, don’t take a hand that is aiming to drag you down with them.

The only way to truly know what action to take is too: pray, fast, and ask God. I recommend 3 days, but God sometimes answers immediately. Watch for signs. Listen for God’s voice. And take action or have peace in what must happen.

(b)Andrew, Peter’s brother; Andrew is said to have had tremendous courage, very humble, and later a Saint (by some religions). I wonder why Andrew is not mention as much as others in the Bible? This leaves me hoping that some where there is a lost Book of Andrew, just waiting to be found. I guess on this one; only time will tell. But, the declaration of Andrew being a courageous man, in my mind solidifies the fact that as Christians we are not called to be flies on the wall. We are made to be courages ourselves. We are made to take ground for God’s kingdom, hold that ground, and expand that ground. Why? Well, even although Andrew is not mention much in the Bible he did go on to build churches and spread the “good news” of God. Andrew was indeed courageous not only with his intentions, but life of direction. Andrew was a warrior for God. That is amazing!!!!! Maybe because of my military back ground, but the more and more I actually study the Bible and those of the Bible; no where have a read of God’s disciples being weak, quite, or/ compromisers. It honestly hurts me to say this, but: Look around today, do we not see compromising to evil? Just the other day in the news I saw an article of church leaders “blessing” an abortion clinic....yes...look it up I don’t lie. Now, there is nothing in me that will ever come close to believing, the one who gave us breath of life, would think it is anyones “choice” to take away a life. Especially, not out of self defense. And, Yes; I’m going to put one more step into this and say, “God brings life, blessings, abundance, grace, mercy, love, healing, and promise; to name a few.....The devil brings death, destruction, pain, agony, misery, death, lies, deceives, manipulates, and so on....”

That being said, those who are “blessing abortions, having abortions, celebrating the choice of an abortion........” Those person’s are not of God and not on God’s side. I know many are going to bring up trauma cases, medical cases etc... believe me I know, but it as boils down to ...God’s side or the devils. So pick a side.. Furthermore, anyone who has study spiritual warfare, will tell you, an abortion is a blood sacrifice to Baal. Who or what is Baal? Well, there is a ton of information out there, but this is a good link below. BTW, pray for NY, apparently there is an alter being put up for this evil. This leads me to ask another question, why are not more churches speaking out against this evil? Why are many churches content in letting this happen? Oh, some want to say many churches are not letting this happen???? Ok, well I have not seen nor heard of any huge name churches..... protesting, televising publically outrage, or leading protest against this murder of children in the womb, now just before birth in some states of America. But, many church leaders protested birth control pills being force payment in medical care for their employees!!!! So is it about the money?????? Or faith??? or relationship with God???? Many churches came out to speak against those who are trying to stop abortions......as I sip my tea. Yes, I said it. I did an internet search and I could find maybe a handful of church leaders speaking against this murder of children, but the best-est /largest churches out there......nothing!?! Shame, Shame, Shame on to them.

Church leaders are supposed to be the moral compass of our national and yet, many/most remain quiet. SHAME! Church leaders are supposed to have God as the head of their church. Yet, they take no actions, SHAME. Church leaders are supposed to educated and advise their flock, yet they rather collect, deflect, and claim to praise God while turning a blind eye to the slaughter of the innocent; SHAME. Why? 501c3. Which is something I vowed to God I would never be. 501c3, which I have promised with my whole heart I would speak against. What is 501c3? So let’s just call the 501c3 churches what they really are; hang outs, social meet-ups, and sadly in some cases underground routes of evil. For those that are in their feelings now; the truth does not care about your feelings. That being said, it is my understanding in order to broadcast, a church must be 501c3 compliant. So for those churches, I have been taught God is a law and order God. God, maybe granting these broadcasting churches grace. Although the grace period may/ will be over once the 501c3 is abolished and those churches choose....yes choose; to remain under the 501c3 yoke. Addiontionally, what others are yoked with 501c3....Planned Parenthood; among others. What organization recently paid thousands and millions to law makers who support abortions, write abortion laws, and even donated for abortion activist groups....Planned Parenthood. Who have openly admitted to charging a high praise for the sale of aborted fetal organs/parts and tissues...Planned Parenthood. I could go on and on.....

Let me guess, so are going to say....but Planned Parenthood help diagnosed cancer in the breast or testicles of xyandz...ok thats good...great even..... But after they helped whoever with whatever......they still did evil. God is a black and white God. That means no grey zone. One cannot kill, murder, lie, deceive; then too claim to be a helper of the people to communities. Furthermore, allowing yourself to be deceived is treasonous to God. So make a choice. For God or against God, but you cannot have both.

Continuing on, Yeshua Jesus Christ while walking comes upon (Simon)Peter and Andrew (brothers). (c)Yeshua says,” Follow me and I will make you fisher’s of men”(Old Testament). Study Bible states,” Follow me, and I will , make you fish for people.” In either case, both book states, immediately the brothers dropped their nets and left their father; to follow Yeshua. Old Testament adds the brother left the ship too. Now, I believe we all are aware how important parents and caring for ones parents was in Biblical times, not to mention a family business. Yet, these two brothers, left all they had, all they had known (possibly), and followed Yeshua???!!!! Yes!!!! I am forever amazed how free someone must have been in the presence to Yeshua; to just know without a doubt, they were doing the right thing (in forsaking all and following). I just love this.

This also saddens me. Why? Well, many are more open to a fun night of binge drinking, sleeping around, trying a new drug, getting into a risky un-Godly relationship; then they are to give their life over to Yeshua. Seriously?!?!? Why? I honestly don’t know. Why, would someone rather live a painful life, rather than be free in Christ? I guess, the only comfort I have is knowing the God can go anywhere and touch anyones life. God can reach the people in the club, the drunk at the bar, the person sleeping around, the one about to put a needle into a vain, and even the one thinking of an abortion. So what can we do????? Pray for them. Yes, even if we have prayed for that person 100 times before...pray for them 1000 times more. Maybe it wasn’t there time yet to be saved. Maybe they had lessons to learn. Maybe something, I don’t know, but God is God and God can save anyone. I have to believe if the person is still on this earth there might be a chance for them to be saved. So let us pray.

God, Today We pray for those who are lost. We pray for those who are lonely. God, we pray for those who are struggling with addiction of any kind. Set them free from their chains. Lord, I pray for those who are harming others; to be granted a fruitful and loving heart; longer able to cause anyone else anymore pain. I pray God reaches down and releases them for any Demons, that maybe taking over their body, spirit, and or mind. I pray for those who repent, be saved and granted grace. Even for those who have to receive judgement from you Lord, we pray that they receive their judgement with a humble and courages heart. Rejoicing in the fact that although they have done wrong, they can now make those wrongs right..... by being truthful, honest, reborn, and pay restitutions to those they have hurt/harmed/murdered/injured. We also pray for those that have been made to suffer at the evil hands of others; receive peace, healing, grace, and abundance in all aspect of their new life. We pray that those now made anew from your healing, become testimonies of your Love and Blessings; furthering your kingdom here on earth. You are the Almighty I AM. God, you said you hear those who cry out to you. You hear and we believe you have heard our cries. We thank you Lord, that healing and blessings for those that are in need; are already on the way. Thank you Lord.

We pray this in the great saving , redeeming, loving name of your son Yeshua Jesus Christ.

Prayer from 6 Feb, 2019

Today friends, I pray we not judge others so harshly. I pray we allow God to do his work in his own time and trust the plan. I pray we don't give into jealously, vanity, or small mindedness. Our God is a glorious God. With mysterious supernatural ways, we can not understand stand. I pray we recognize the value each of us have in God's kingdom here on earth. I pray, we make it to the loving arms of Yeshua Jesus Christ ratified with the world we have be untrusted with on own own mission(s). I pray, we monger be held back with thoughts of doubt and or a slave mentality. I Pray we actually live by what we have been given; freedom through Yeshua. I pray we take God out of the box. Knock those four walls. I pray we have God every where we are and am going. I pray we see God not only within, but within others. I pray this in Yeshua's Great Name. Amen.

The Truth Behind St. Valentine’s Day

Long but worth the read. February 13, 2020 St. Valentine’s Day is the world’s “holiday of love.” Since the Bible states that God is love (I John 4:8, 16), does He approve of the celebration of this day? Does He want His people—true Christians—partaking of the candy and cards, or any customs associated with this day?

Under different names or titles—Pan, Lupercus, Saturn, Osiris—Nimrod is the strong man and hunter-warrior god of the ancients.

But what does the heart symbol have to do with a day honoring Nimrod/Valentine?

But what does this have to do with us today? Why should we be concerned with what happened in the past?

But just how serious is God about paganism?

And so went the deliverance-idolatry-punishment-repentance cycle (vs. 40-46), until finally, God had no other choice but to divorce unfaithful Israel (Jer. 3:6-11).

The Israelites were severely punished because they lusted after pagan customs, rituals, traditions and practices. As you can see, God does not take paganism lightly.

The Bible shows that Israel not only disobeyed God and wholeheartedly embraced the sexual immorality of the Gentiles, they even went a step further.

Do not be so certain. Perhaps their lives are not being sacrificed—but what about their innocence?

Yet these same parents are surprised when their teen-aged “little girl” gets pregnant. Or catches a sexually transmitted disease. Or gets an abortion behind their back.

St. Valentine’s Day is just one of many tools the “god of this world” (II Cor. 4:4) uses to get parents to sacrifice the innocence of their children.

How pathetic!

Concerning this pagan, satanic system, God commands true Christians,“Come out of her, My people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues” (vs. 4).

Christians do not celebrate St. Valentine’s Day!
