I think it's really funny when europeans criticise the us-centrism in history education in the usa because. if you've seen our own history education you've seen it is usually incredibly eurocentric. the pot calling the kettle black and whatnot

Civil War (2024) is a mechanically good film but the commitment to not stoking real world political tensions in a movie about the potential consequences of those tensions leaves a gaping hole in its worldbuilding and reduces its impact to just. a series of melodramatic images of “what if the bad war happened here”. completely declawing any potential impact it could have had for the sake of not being controversial

#literally saw an interview where they were talking about the shot where the lincoln memorial was blown up s #with the host saying jokingly that the message was ‘don’t blow up the lincoln memorial’ bd the director LAUGHED #and that just summarizes the whole movie #like yeah it’s a joke but the commitment to not explaining WHY there was a secession movement and WHY everyone was divided meant it really i #is just a toothless ‘don’t make the country at war 🙂 because then all those scary war crimes we see in other countries would happen here.#wouldn’t it be scary if someone bombed the white house :0’#text✨#like the moment i heard that the main conceit was texas and california teamed up bc the writer/director didn’t want to make the conflict #‘too real’ i knew it would be lackluster. dude you clearly do not understand the cultural divide there.#AND THE FLAG????? So, Canada has decided to stop sending arms to Israel after an NDP motion. The Liberals made major amendments to it so as to firmly condemn Hamas as well. It's kind of a mixed bag. Honestly, it's naive of me but I didn't expect there would still be so much outrage, even if the motion did call for an acknowledgement of Palestine as a state. All the Conservatives voted against it - to be fair, some of them wanted to wait for the motion to be passed because the amendments were super last minute and the Bloc Quebecois were annoyed that because of this there wasn't a French translation.

I guess it's a step in the right direction. I think it's still weak but you can read more on it here.

#I think the biggest thing that confuses me is that there are still comments about Israel being the only safe place for Jewish people #I don't doubt that - a large (I think unfortunately a majority) percent of the hate crimes this year #have been against Jewish people in my country #But uh... maybe the solution here is to work on making Canada (and the world in general) safer for Jewish people?#I know you can't change people's individual attitudes but really #i think saying 'ah yes jewish people will be safe in this place far away from us #where we don't have to deal with this issue in our own country. not anywhere else though' is... weird #also I think if your argument is genuinely that one group's safety has to come at the expense of an entire other group of people #you need to start thinking outside of such a limited narrow scope #storyrambles #<-i'll probably delete my tags after i'm just... sigh...#i know i'm naive to a degree but i really think these opinions are not... especially radical #also i think canada is reticent to show too much support because that might get conversations going around our occupation #of indigenous land and the landback movements #but that's my own thoughts and a separate (though related) matter

waiiiitt I just realized the reason why I love QSMP so much as a concept is because it's kind of like my childhood growing up overseas oh my goooodddddd what if i cried

#its in the bonding over multicultural experiences #in school everyone would be from somewhere different from all over the world #and we were only at this place for a few years so we just vibed together and our differences didnt matter #but then sometimes we'd just end up talking about where we lived before #and sharing these crazy things we'd had as american kids in other countries #and we'd also for one reason or another have local kids sometimes talk about their own experiences as locals coming to the american school #and it was cool too!!#but coming back to live in the usa has been pretty isolating as someone who grew up outside here and no one else has left their state area #but the qsmp community has been bringing that culture exchange back into my life!!#and it's SOOO amazing to see people learning about outside their world and be part of that culture exchange again #and no its not the same and im not saying its supposed to be!#i love it so much i love learning about the outside world and how humanity is so varied and so so special #thank you qsmp this silly minecraft server has brought back a part of my life i thought i left behind forever when my family moved back #now im actually practicing my german again and picking up on more basic spanish than i ever thought id get #and im getting reinspired to want to aim to go back overseas rather than stay in america for job oppertunities #i thought i was resolved to suffer here forever but theres still a world out there thats not perfect but if my place isnt here its okay!
