I was talking about this on reddit but I don't think Dorian having the necromancer specialisation fits him really... at all. I can believe he's interested in necromancy (though this isn't really shown apart from one banter with cassandra) and gaider said he was drawn to it because it was difficult- that makes sense, but I just think the vibes are off. Like necromancy kind of gives... a dark and emo edgelord sort of thing. It's inherently creepy lol and kind of disgusting, visceral, gloomy. Whereas Dorian is flashy and bright, immaculately groomed, intellectual, showy. It doesn't track, for me at least.
What I would have given him is a glyph-based specialisation. Like a more complex version of these:
And I would have woven time magic into it- so glyphs of haste, slowing, things like that. As it stands it makes little sense that the focus ability for necromancy is haste; it's only in there because of Dorian, like what has that got to do with raising the dead. I like the glyphs because they're very visually impressive, beautiful even. They're bright and flashy. I also think a mage would have to study glyphs carefully in order to "draw" them correctly. This works with Dorian's background as an academic/scholar, and time magic in general fits him, not just because he studied it with Alexius, but thematically as a "rebellious archivist" or a historian.

honestly i'm terrified lesson 25 is just going to open with them making a joke out of the whole solomon and barbatos thing and then barbatos will immediately leave and not reappear for another 10+ lessons, as is tradition

[ PAST ]: a letter which the writer wrote in the past, that reveals a piece of their backstory, that the reader finds and reads out of curiosity. (this could also be a letter written TO the receiver of the meme, or about them, or anything at all!)
NO LONGER ACCEPTING ━ Letter Prompts.
Sir xxxx Rosehearts
June, xxxx
The Queendom of Roses, xxxxx
To my esteemed father,
It has been quite some time indeed. I’m uncertain as to whether you have received the letters I have been sending since leaving for school. It is a shame you were unable to join myself and mother during the winter holidays…though I understand work must be particularly demanding this year. Still, I do hope to hear from you soon.
This time, I’ve deemed it a good idea to write to you and update you on my schooling. After the last round of exams, I am once again at the top of my class. And despite being the youngest to do so, mere months after being in power as Housewarden of Heartslabyul, I have commanded full respect. Of course I am aware this is only to be expected, but I wanted to tell you nevertheless. I have been keeping to mother’s dietary plan as well, and and taking the medication she’s assigned to me routinely. All in all, I wish to assure you that I have been a filial son indeed, and am fulfilling my duty in bringing pride to the Rosehearts name.
Father’s Day is soon approaching, and I will be returning home just in time for it. The purpose of this letter, therefore, is also to inquire over what you may wish to receive. I will be awaiting your response. And as always, my utmost appreciation and respect for your hard work.
All the best,
Riddle Rosehearts.

The day when writers realize that they do not need to add romance to a plot to make it enjoyable, compelling or interesting and can quite often have the opposite effect (especially when compelling friendships and other dynamics are RIGHT THERE to flesh out) will be such a blessed day.

MCU isn’t my fandom and I’ve never seen Age of Ultron. But I love drama so please tell me: What in the ever-living fucks is “Joss Whedon’s boob trampoline”?
This, unfortunately:
The original 2012 Avengers movie, with the same cast and same director (Whedon), was largely great. The 2015 followup was...emphatically not. The thing reeks of all the stuff the MCU has done poorly since—incoherent action sequences, plot advancing characterization rather than vice versa, rushing to introduce new people and references to the comics, too much dependence on other movies (past and future)—but the forced, poorly written, terribly rationalized pairing of Bruce and Natasha was particularly awful.
I do remember a WHOLE bunch of fandom friends checking in with me after the thing came out to see if I was all right. Which I was, I will just die mad about this as the crown jewel for all the reasons Whedon massively disappointed me, personally, fuck you dude.

There’s two different types of bad writing, and one of them is the kind that’s actually infuriating.
There’s bad writing that’s just bad 100% of the way through, or it’s otherwise so low quality that there’s nothing of value to be gained from it. When writing is this bad, you can just ignore it and forget about it because it has no skill, no value, no memorability whatsoever. You don’t develop strong feelings about it because the writing is so bad you can’t even hate it because you don’t care about it enough to complain about it.
And then there’s bad writing that actually has gems of quality in it: There were interesting concepts, or character relationships that seemed interesting, or a setting or other plot device that adds depth to the world. Except it’s executed in such a shoddy way that it makes you scream from how much worse the actual writing is compared to what it could have been in theory. Bad writing that’s bad because of wasted potential is 1000% worse than bad writing that’s just bad because it’s just good enough to make you want to enjoy it.
The latter type of bad writing is pretty much how I feel about Barber’s work in phase 2 and it really annoys me lmao. Because Barber got almost every plot point that I was looking forward to reading about (Earth politics, Pyra Magna, colonies, Optimus fucking Prime being my favorite character of the whole continuity) and managed to turn it into a snail-paced boring slog full of contrivances that don’t make sense and only exist to force a certain plot to happen, with virtually no character relationships that are interesting and sloppy political allegories that aren’t actually told through a good story and are basically just Barber puppeteering the characters to scream “THIS IS A POLITICAL ALLEGORY DO YOU GET IT” as if this is entertaining or #deep when really it’s just boring and annoying.

i was going to say this in a reply to someone elses post but i need to stop bothering randos in the tags. i still want to say it because it is my bigggest gripe about this game so i will say it here
starfield's take on futureworld gender is lame.
i think again this is MOSTLY attributable to a clumsy gameplay-storytelling interfacing issue where they want to have their character creator respec at will menu lored in and it just doesnt work. there is one npc called dani garcia who is implied to be transfem and has not taken the magic cis-passing bodyswap machine route at enhance, and i want the game to have more characters like her just populating the world. especially in places like neon or the well where its clear not everyone can afford the 500 credits at enhance (despite this game's broken ass get rich quick economy again the gameplay and storytelling do not mesh)
they had a really good opportunity with hadrian sanon to be textually if not visibly trans but they fucked it and implied she's a cis genderswap clone which hugely reduces her thematic potential imo. like her whole thing is growing away from this identity she was shackled to. she was expected to fill the role of a man who exemplifies all the uc's worst and she chooses to walk away from that. i think this is literally only enhanced if she is transgender but bethesda are cowards and let you be like umm youre a clone? of a MAN? and you're a GIRL? and shes like oh no no dont worry i was assigned female at birth somehow. like oh my god so lame remove that exchange just have her be trans it is literally a better story that way
