Officially at the stage of waiting for DA:D where I'm getting excited about discovering several slightly different versions of the same concept art in use by BioWare.

For one, it comes out a bottle. For two, I mess up, I get burned. For three? Bottle, little burned, no demons. So there.

(I am fully aware that tempests smash their bottles, preferably far away from their faces, but I wanted a badass shot, sue me)

I guess I appreciate the support (?) but I have nothing against them personally and don't particularly wish to have, idk them and everyone has a right to their opinion! And my intention wasn't to argue or like start some kind of personal confrontation. imo it's fine for one person to express a thought online and then for another to share their views about it politely and in good faith. which hopefully was the case

I mean I am european, I'm spanish and live in the very catholic, extremely cathedral-heavy city of barcelona so I am familiar with how that whole business works, haha. Trust me, I can't take a step without accidentally kicking a cathedral out here.

I guess I don't think that the orlesian chantry necessarily aligns with real-world catholicism in all senses (nor must urban planning necessarily align with european urban planning.) even if it does, there are typically different masses at different hours, and we also don't know what sorts of services are offered by the chantry, with what regularity, or if a substantial portion of the population actually attends or is allowed to attend.

In the city elf origin we see there is a chantry sister who is the only one willing to service the alienage and she goes there herself; I do think it's likely there are small chapels scattered around, as I said, but iirc characters tend to refer to the chantry as the only one.

I do see your point, and like I said there are probably other buildings, hall churches and the like, and chapels throughout kirkwall. I guess technically those could be called chantries. Nobles might have private altars within their own houses, possibly dedicated sisters as well, we've seen this is the case in the circles. to me the chantry seems so disconnected with the general populace that I don't think there's necessarily much need for multiple cathedrals in kirkwall. Obv I could be wrong, and I think either is likely tbh, but I don't think it's a wholly ridiculous notion to believe that the kirkwall chantry that got blowed up was the only one, or at least the only one of note.

I think it's very likely there are multiple chantries in places like val royeaux, antiva city, minrathous. larger cities with more of a religious presence; kirkwall just doesn't strike me as that big or that andrastian, and the chantry kind of sits atop like this detached presence lording over her subjects.

((Looks like the background map that they chose for the item shots is the Thedas map that came with Tevinter Nights. I’m also 👁️ at the golden-leaved foliage and the cracks shown in this image with the idol. those trees have been showing up now and again in DA:D promo art & concept art - associated with stuff/places like Arlathan Forest, the Veil Jumpers, yknow, like that Fade-y/magic-y locale with floating rocks etc [examples], and in the Golden/Black City and the big dragon’s wings on the vinyl album cover art. the cracks remind me of stuff like this and the crumbling effect in the new DA:D logo.))
