taylor swift’s album lover is perfect. (my album review)

taylor swift’s seventh studio album lover is one of the best albums she’s created. i don’t care what anyone says, it’s lovely, beautiful, and features songs with the sweetest sentiments. i love talking about it.

although i love it, it does have some songs that i’m not obsessed with. that’s natural with every album. not every song is a smash hit, but nonetheless i wouldn’t trade this album for anything. i love this era, but i wish taylor chose different singles. taylor’s artistic mind is unmatched, but sometimes she doesn’t pick the right singles. nothing she does is an accident, and i know she has a reason for why she does things, but there are a lot of tracks that deserved their own music video. we’ll get there.

let’s get into it.

1. i forgot that you existed

i think this song was a good choice for the first track. it’s short and cute. it’s nothing too special but i still like it.

2. cruel summer

the single we deserved. i would’ve loved to see this track as a single. it’s short, but so so good and catchy. the bridge and outro is just spectacular. i love this song, that’s it.

3. lover

here she is, the title track. this song is one of taylor’s best songs, there i said it. i love the sentiment behind it (i’ll be repeating that a lot), and the music video is INCREDIBLE. it’s one of her best music videos. it’s such a sweet song, and i can totally see why she named this album “Lover.” it’s also the perfect wedding song, and we can only hope for a love like the one she wrote about.

4. the man

i like this song. i think it's an important song, especially with everything she’s been through. the music video is unreal, i still can’t get over how they transformed taylor into a man. the lyrics to this song are unfortunately very true, so first and foremost i think we need to pay attention to the message.

5. the archer

ok “the archer” stans, i get it now. i really didn’t vibe with this song at first. i’m not sure why but it didn’t jump out at me. but, then i heard it in her documentary and i was like “wait what’s this? how’d i gloss over this song?” and i love it now. it’s so sad but sweet? only taylor can pull that off. the lyrics are so telling, i really like it now. it picks up towards the end, and that’s where it really gets good.

6. i think he knows

another short bop. i love the pre-chorus and the post-chorus, they’re so catchy and in my opinion, the best part of the song.

7. miss americana & the heartbreak prince

first of all, A+ for the creative title. i’ve literally never heard that before, and i was taken aback when i read it. i really like the verses and the way she sings “Okay!” it’s really catchy. the outro is also really well done.

8. paper rings

this song is amazing. i love the sentiment behind this song too. it’s so incredibly catchy, especially the bridge. the bridge gives me an indescribable feeling. it feels like a party in your ears, and just makes you want to dance. it adds something extra to the song, in the best way. also, the lyrics “I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings” is just... wow. like are you kidding me taylor?? how sweet is that? this is also one of taylor’s best songs, i take no criticism.

9. cornelia street

finally, i can talk about cornelia street. this is my favorite song on this album, and one of my all-time favorite taylor swift songs. once again, the sentiment behind this song is beautiful. imagine being so in love with someone that if you guys broke up, you’d never be able to visit a place. just let that sink in. it’s a sad and happy song. the beat is so catchy and beautiful. it really picks up during the second verse. also, the second verse and bridge is my favorite part. it’s such a calming song, and i just feel all warm and fuzzy listening to it. i don’t have enough good things to say about it. also, i very much appreciate that this is one of the lengthier songs on the album, it’s like taylor knew what i wanted. i will never stop saying “thank you taylor” for writing this song, and “thank you joe” for inspiring it.

10. death by a thousand cuts

the intro is so unique and just grabs your attention. it’s such a cute and calming song. it’s very easy to love, especially due to the bridge. it just puts me in a good mood.

11. london boy

it’s really sweet and i love the story it tells. the british references are so cute. it has a nice beat and it puts a smile on my face.

12. soon you’ll get better ft. the dixie chicks

if you want to cry on the inside (or outside), listen to this song. it’s so sad and emotional. her voice is so calming and since the music is very chill, it allows you to really feel her emotions. the lyrics just take me out, it’s like i can feel how she felt when writing it. i’m just sorry her and her family had to go through that, no one deserves that pain.

13. false god

this song was a grower because i didn’t pay attention to it for the longest time. but, i went back to listen to it and it grew on me. the saxophone was a very nice and unique touch. it’s actually really calming and easy to listen to.

14. you need to calm down

unpopular opinion: i like this song.

i know everyone roasts it, but i don’t get it. it’s cute and catchy. it’s not like in my top 5 or anything, but people overreact way too much when it comes to this song. it’s not the best taylor’s ever written, but i don’t think she was aiming for a lyrical masterpiece. i don’t think she wrote this song with the same mindset as when she wrote “all too well.” that song is a lyrical masterpiece, no doubt. i think it was just supposed to be a catchy bop and it is. it puts me in a good mood, and i enjoy it. plus, the video is really cute and i like the meaning. i get it if it’s not your cup of tea, but some people were really overdoing it with the hate. the things people were saying basically proved her point. not to sound corny but some of y’all need to learn what constructive criticism means. literally, “you need to calm down.”

15. afterglow

i looove this song!! it’s beautiful and extremely calming. i love blasting this song lol. i can’t even pick a favorite part because it’s the entire song. the meaning is a little sad, but it serves as a chill bop. thank you, taylor.

16. me! ft. brendon eurie

another unpopular opinion: i like this song too.

i know the lyrics are a little corny and it’s not her best song lyrically, but it’s a bop anyway. this song puts me in a good mood, and it feels like a big party in my ears. people roasted her too much for this song. it was just meant to be a fun bop and as usual, stan twitter took it too far. like i said before, don’t go to stan twitter for anything unless you want to be corrupted with a barrage of toxicity. people took the "me!” hate train way too far, it really isn’t that bad of a song. plus, the beautiful and colorful music video makes up for it. i’m not gonna lie, i’d rather have a different lead single, and i would’ve traded this for a music video for “cruel summer” or “paper rings” in a heartbeat, but it’s not as bad as people made it out to be. y’ll just love to run everything into the ground. also, i know she got rid of the “hey kids, spelling is fun” lyric, which surprised me. it wasn’t horrible and i don’t think it makes or breaks the song, but it still flows nicely without it. brendon was a good feature. idk why, but i love the way she sings

17. it’s nice to have a friend

this is such a cute and chill song, i really appreciate it. it lets you relax after the pop songs, and prepares you for the last song. it’s very easy to listen to, and her voice just calms you.

18. daylight

i looove daylight and its meaning. it’s so peaceful and beautiful. once again, i can’t pick a favorite part because the entire song is just that good, but the bridge and the last chorus just reallyyyy hits. the bridge really highlights how far she’s come with her view on relationships, and it’s amazing. it gets me a little emotional, ngl. the lyric, “You gotta step into the daylight and let it go” has become one of my favorite taylor lyrics. it’s such a perfect way to end this glorious album, and after listening to it i can understand why she almost named this whole album “Daylight.”

overall thoughts:

i love this album. i don’t care what anyone thinks, it’s perfect. it’s so special and the overall meaning is beautiful. i know everyone was waiting for it to flop, and the dumb comments were a little much. when i think of this album, i think of happiness.

my rating: 8/10

the weakest songs: i forgot that you existed, me!, it’s nice to have a friend, you need to calm down.

the strongest songs: cruel summer, lover, paper rings, cornelia street, afterglow, and daylight
