Orchestral Burn Book

by Yours Truly, a bitter violist.

Violins: Divas. They stretch every melody in an attempt to see which soloist can get an audience member to hold their yawn the longest. They suck at staying with the beat and hate themselves so much, they only come in two groups. NEXT

Violists: Derpy workaholics. These kiddos, along with the clarinet, bassoon, French horn, the conga, and often the snare drum, are filling in all that rhythm around the timpani and compensating for your HORRIBLE mismanagement of pitches around us. FML, you need to be thankful we’re content out of the limelight.

Cellos: Violin 2, emote harder. Cellos get just as many epic solos as the leads but with 3x the range and technique. They stay on the beat but are also given some UNFAIR passages to play and often suffer when they have to play together /quietly/.

Basses: If this were the Baroque era, these deep-dish twangos would have the power of the Timpani but sadly... they are too quiet in any number fewer than a dozen. They are... okay with this. It's fine. This is fine.

Flutes: Tweet Rockets. Champion of their race was John Phillip "Liberty Bells" Sousa who gave them and their shrieking cousin, the Piccolo, the kinds of melodies that didn't so much stick in your mind as slice their way in through your THROBBING TEMPLES.

OBOES: If I didn't play viola, I would live over here. It might waddle like a duck and quack like a duck and really, really sound like a duck, but it's also one of the most expressive colors I could imagine. Gabriel's Oboe, every bit the schlock I believe it sounds like, is just perfect in its capable keys. I get shivers and I hate it.

Clarinet: I hate these honk-bois almost as much as I hate the Soprano-GD-Saxophone. Mozart fricking loved them and wrote a bazillion parts. Not one Clarinetist I've met has had the lung capacity to hit his high notes and not see white at the corners of their eyes.

Saxophone: Sir Not-Appearing-In-My-Damn-Orchestra. Mussorgsky wrote one (1) good orchestra part for it in Pictures at an Exhibition and since then, it has been relegated to the hell that is the jazz hallway.

English Horn and the Bass Clarinet: the Oboe's and Clarinet's stupid old uncles. They're stubborn and farty and there's NO reason for both of them to come over at the same time but oh no it's too late YES WE'LL GET ANOTHER PLATE.

Bassoon: This one makes me giggle the most and yet, the Sorcerer's Apprentice gets a bad rap, I think. It's extremely functional, filling the slot of "woodwind cello" and plays on the bottoms of chords and downbeats a lot. It's just... limited and older.

Contrabassoon: I can’t see you behind your instrument and you can’t see the upbeat. *shrug*

Trumpets: The worst offender. Superman and Batman. Sigfried and Oden. Fanfares and hunting calls and holy wrath, these high and mighty types only come in two flavors: Look at this! I'm going to blow your mind with my VOLUME, speed, /screaming high pitches/ and... Behold my power. Only one of those makes me moist.

French Horns: It took us a while to figure out how to curl the brass like that so it's like they showed up to Art Music 3 centuries late with a Starbucks saying, "What, we're using pistons now? Fuck, what am I gonna do with all these valves? Oh well, better stick my hand in my own ass and blow so hard I might shit myself."

Trombones: What's up? Here's the slide-o-phones! You'd think that the convenience of being able to adjust with only the twitch of the wrist would mean they react to sour pitches better. You'd think. They make up for it by being super friendly.

Tuba: The 'OOM' of your 'pah.' Every orchestra needs one but they spawn naturally in band halls, football stadiums, and gazebos though only seasonally around Oktoberfest. We don't trust them with melodies, really, it's just not their forte.

Euphonium: The kid-sister of the Tuba. Mom and Dad only made you because they realized Tuba was gonna be hard to carry. Sux.

Timpani: Already touched upon the power behind the throne but fun history fact is they used to be really hard to tune and the oil would freeze in church sometimes. That's rough if your notes are the Tonic and Dominant (I and V) of the whole ensemble, so often you needed as many timpani as you had notes. Pedals changed this in the... 1800's I wanna say.

Marimba and Xylophone: Long thin planks of wood overtop metal resonators. A good way to remember which is which is that theee Marimba is Mellow and the Xylophone is the drill that will pierce the heavens! Good for Latin dance, early radio Ragtime, using way too many sticks to make that chord work and now, to their everlasting shame, ambience at spas.

The sun set on the Island Jin brought you to for your birthday. You left his side as he stood in the ocean outside the quaint home in the middle of the French Polynesia.

Jin didn’t think twice, his mind was totally occupied by the colors painted in the sky. However all of that changed when you ran past him, submerging yourself in the warm clear water.

“What are you… are you wearing…” He trailed off.

“Don’t look!” You whined.

“Why?” He genuinely was confused.

“Remember how you felt when I saw you in your glasses for the first time?” Jin nodded. “That’s how I feel right now… But a bikini was all I had.”

“So you feel insecure?” You nodded quickly.

“Come here.” He held his hand out to you. You immediately shook your head. “Please?”

“Ugh.” How could you deny him? You stood, covering yourself as much as you arms would.

“Okay now let down your arms.” He chuckled. He looked ethereal in the golden sun and you complied reluctantly.

You watched as his eyebrows shot up. “Stop!” You whined, covering yourself once more.

“No no!” He waved his arms. “You look amazing, why have you been hiding all of this from me?”

Namjoon:

“This is you right now.” He laughed, mocking you as you held on to your t shirt for dear life. “We’re at the beach baby, take it off.” He smiled sweetly, hoping to entice you.

“No!” You shook your head. “I’m scared to.” You mumbled, looking away.

“But it’s just you and I. There is no one around, literally.” He chuckled.

“Exactly!” You whined. “I don’t want you to see.”

“Rock, paper, scissors.” He held his hands up. “Two our of three. If I win, You take it off.”

Namjoon jumped in happiness as he beat you all theee times. “I win baby! Shirt off. Now.” He smiled.

You groaned, lifting the shirt over your head and throwing it onto the sand below. You stood there, arms crossed, attempting to hide yourself but all efforts were futile.

“Damn babygirl…” He tried not to let his jaw hang too long. “You look…. delicious.”

Yoongi:

Yoongi smiled to himself as he watched the wind rake through your hair. You sat on the side of the boat closest to the setting sun.

Orange surrounded you and bathed you in an ethereal light. He found himself lost in the way the sun pushed through hour white cover up, perfectly showing him the body he loved so much.

He never understood why you were so shy about your body, it looked amazing and yet you always hid it from him.

You, on the other hand, welcomed the setting sun and it’s warmth with open arms. Soaking up the last bit of gold before it left for the evening. You slipped off the sheer fabric, laying it down beside you.

Yoongi’s eyes widened slightly at your actions. You weren’t being shy. For once, you felt like you had the confidence to do this. You smiled to yourself, feeling his eyes burn holes in your skin and then it dawned on you… This was the first time he had seen you in a bikini. You mentally face palmed, blushing profusely.

“So you’re not going to let me see all of you?” His deep voice appeared in your ear as his arms wrapped around your shoulder.

“Sorry!” You squeaked. “I just realized that I’ve ever… You’ve never…”

“Seen you dressed like this.” He kissed the side of your head. “So? How about a little show for me?” He smirked.

“Wha-“

“I’ll go sit on the other side of the boat, just walk over to me.” With that. he departed, leaving you anxious.

You heard him sigh obviously loud as he sat down. “It’s now or never.” You told yourself.

You stood, still facing the sun as you pulled up your bottoms on purpose before turning to face him. His lip tugged between his teeth as he eyed you up and down. You strutted over to him at an achingly slow pace, watching his breathing speed up a bit.

For Yoongi, the sun surrounded you once more and it looked like an angel was walking toward him, clad in a skimpy black bikini. Once you were close enough, he pulled you into his lap, keeping a firm grip on you.

“The second we get off this boat and into the house, head straight to the bedroom.”

Hoseok:

He knew you didn’t notice him as you walked out on to the beach at sunset. He stood in the doorway of the bedroom, silently watching you. He nodded to himself, realizing he may just be the most lucky man on the planet. You were stunning in your burgundy two piece, your natural hair blowing in the wind.

He watched you crouch down, examining seashells around you before stepping into the water. Your hands traced the water as fish swam around you.

Hoseok quickly pulled out his phone, snapping a picture of you… and it would have been perfect if the sound was off.

You quickly turned around to see your boyfriend holding his phone up in the air toward you.

“Babe?” You called, he quickly ran inside hoping you didn’t see him. You couldn’t help but laugh, running toward the house.

“Hoseok!” You called from the living room. You watched him walk out of the bedroom, stretching as if he had just woken up from a nap.

“Sorry babe I just woke up.” He rubbed his eyes.

“Oh don’t play that with me.” You shook your head.

“Fine but how come you only wear that when i’m sleeping?” He pouted. “You look HOT.” He hyped you up. “Like on FIRE.”

Jimin:

You smiled at your boyfriend who was cooking breakfast. The sun had just risin over the ocean, penetrating the house with warmth and the morning couldn’t be anymore perfect.

You looked down at yourself, making sure the light blue bikini set perfectly on the curve of your hips.

“Hey babe!” You walked into the kitchen, standing behind Jimin. “I was hoping we could go out to the beach after breakfast.” You chimed.

“You mean right outside the living room door?” He chuckled, focusing on the prep of your favorite breakfast. “Sure, of course we can.”

“I was going to save this for the last day we were here but the first day sounds more en-“ Jimin turned around as he talked, freezing once his eyes landed on you. “What are you wearing?” He mumbled.

“Oh! it’s my new bikini. Do you like it?” You smiled, trying not to giggle at your boyfriends face.

“But you’ve never….” He mumbled again, trailing his eyes up and down your figure.

“I know I know.” You hummed. “I can go change?” You began walking away, retreating toward the bedroom.

“No.” He grabbed your wrist. “Did you bring more?” He blushed a bit.

“Of course.” You giggled.

“Can you wear them the rest of the time we’re here?” He looked at you hopeful.

“Already ahead of you babe.”

Taehyung:

“Are you almost ready?” Tae called to you from the bed. You had currently locked yourself in the bathroom, changing to go out to the beach for the sunset.

“Yes!” You called back. “One sec!” You smiled at yourself in the mirror. Your skin was going, natural hair was perfect and your body looked banging in your white bikini.

You turned around, opening the door and heading out like you weren’t dressed in something Tae had never seen you in before.

“Yah!” He pointed at you, earning a look of confusion from your face. “What is that?” He gestured toward your bathing suit.

“Uh, a bikini?” You tried not to giggle as his eyes ate you alive. “Do you like it?” You spun quickly for him, knowing how much he loved white on you.

Tae stared at you for what felt like ages. His eyes drank you in as his lips subconsciously parted. He could feel his cheeks flush, easily growing flustered at the sight of you.

“Yeah.” He nodded, biting his lip. “Now go change.”

“What? Why!?” You pouted.

“Because,” He walked up to you, towering over your figure and bringing his lips dangerously close to yours. “I’m having a hard time trying to not ravage you and I can only imagine but the other guys will think when they see you too.”

Jungkook:

Jungkook smiled as you strolled past him in an oversized t-shirt. He watched you stand ankle deep in the crystal clear water in front of you. You smiled, bending down at the small fish circling you. You leaned your head to the side, cooing at the ones still around you.

Little did you know, Jungkook had snuck up behind you. He snickered, kicking and splashing the water onto you.

“Yah!” you screamed, turning around to face the culprit. Jungkook stood in front of you, blinding you with his dashing bunny smile.

“Sorry jagiya! There was a huge fish.” He giggled. “Your shirt is wet. Why don't you take it off?” He raised his eyebrows at you.

“Was that your plan all along?” You crossed your arms.

“Maybe.” He smirked, closing in on you. His hands found the edge of your shirt, pulling it up.

“Ugh.” You groaned, laughing. You stepped back, pulling your shirt off before hitting him with it.

“Happy?” You motioned at the bikini.

“Very.” He smiled, pulling you into him.

[Family]

My brother’s name starts with D. Neither of my grandfathers are alive. I look more like my mother than my father. Both my parents are in a serious relationship. I am the youngest of three children. I am the only girl. My mom’s mom is NOT your typical grandmother. I don’t really like my cousins. I have less than five cousins. I’ve shown up at a family party while under the influence.

[Religion & Politics]

I was raised Christian. But I’m no longer a Christian. I believe in God. But I think the Bible is bullshit. My beliefs aren’t influenced by people around me. My dad is religious. My mom tries to be, but who is she trying to fool? I hate church. I wouldn’t have voted in the last election even if I was old enough. I hate politics more than anything.

[Food]

I honestly never stop eating. Chocolate + peanut butter = orgasmic. I only eat Cains mayonnaise. I’ve never eaten a fruit I didn’t like. I love cooked broccoli but not raw broccoli. I love raw peppers but not cooked peppers. I’ve gone a day or more without eating. I crave chocolate on my period. Pizza Hut has the best pizza around. Cookies & Cream ice cream is one of my favorites.

[Sex, Love & Relationships]

I’ve been told that I was a nine out of ten at giving head. A guy has cheated on his girlfriend with me. I’ve never been cheated on. I had my first kiss when I was fifteen. I lost my virginity in the woods. My best friend lost her virginity a week after me. In the same place I did. I’ve been in the same room as someone having sex. I would rather be on the bottom.

I download my music from LimeWire. I love country. I love old school rap. I love alternative. I have All Time Low’s new CD Nothing Personal. And I love it. I love to sing, but I suck horribly at it. I cannot play a musical instrument. I want to learn to play the drums. I used to take piano lessons.

[School]

My GPA is between 2.0 and 3.0. I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade, and again in 9th. I’ve passed a class with a D-. I don’t do my homework at home. I prefer mechanical pencils. I always do projects the night before they’re due. I’m really smart but don’t always apply myself. I text in school. I’ve gotten my phone taken away in school.

[Beauty & Hygiene]

I straighten my hair often. On lazy days, I scrunch my hair to go out. My only make-up necessity is mascara. I like to wing my eyeliner. I’d rather take a shower than a bath. I’d rather use body wash than a bar of soap. I’d rather use a bath scrunchie than a washcloth. My solution for make-up on lazy days: sunglasses. I use the same routine every day in the shower.

[Smoking, Drinking & Drugs]

I smoke cigarettes. I’ve gotten drunk within the past month. I’ve smoked weed when by myself. The first time I got high was on a holiday. Marijuana should be legalized. I have never and would never drink and drive. I hate light beer. My lighter is purple. My favorite cigarettes are Turkish Silver or Camel Crush. I’ve quit smoking but started again.

[Random]

My nails are pink right now. Going to bed at midnight is very early for me. I could never date a guy that didn’t make me laugh. I have a jar of peanut butter in my room right now. I wear sunglasses a lot. Gogurt is really good in the freezer. I’ve been in Hollister, but I don’t own anything from there. Purple is my favorite color. There is no such thing as an ugly color. I like where I’m at right now. My feet are freezing. I hate feeling awkward. I love driving on country roads. I love driving fast, too. I currently have a cold. I have a crush. No, it’s more than a crush. I always wondered what it’d be like to start over, where no one knew me. I go on Yahoo Answers. I get nostalgic every once in awhile. I really don’t like my father. My mother is one of my best friends though. I don’t mind when people stare at me. No, it’s annoying as fuck. I can’t stand people who are extremely selfish. A Change Of Pace is a good band. I have gotten a new phone within the past month. I want to go to Florida soon. Peach snapple iced tea is theee best. I wrote books when I was younger. I’m really creative, especially when I apply myself. I use Facebook a lot more than I used to. I’m constantly told I’m beautiful, but I still sometimes don’t believe it. One of my friends came out as gay this year. I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t have someone. I’m way too quiet, and I wish I could change. I need to party. Music and books are my favorite. I love everything about the fall. I always smell really good. My hair looks nice today. I have long fingernails. I’ve kissed a Ryan, Mike, or Justin. I’ve been in love with a Josh, Christian, or Scott. I envy no one. I’m going to an amusement park soon. For a halloween-related thing. I don’t like beer. I don’t like soda. I’ve worn a turtle neck in the past year. I wear them often. Outspoken is something I’m not. I express myself through quotes and lyrics. Photography is beautiful. There’s beauty in everything, you just gotta find it. I ordered a pizza recently. Tonight, actually. I wish I could have a whole new batch of friends. Even though I do love the ones I have now. My nose is stuffy. I like orange juice. And sandwich wraps. I love cozy nights at home. I like playing Hebi. Apples to Apples is fun. I have to start applying for jobs. I really need one. Ahhh life is changing fast. I tend to drive a little bit over the speed limit.

My razor only has two blades. My keyboard is black. I use my friends as arm rests and pillows. My favorite number is odd. My favorite number is a single digit. I love having butterflies in my stomach. The last make up I wore was eyeliner. I’d love to have a winter wedding. I’m really ticklish. I have a facial piercing. I’d only get a tattoo that has significant meaning to me. My boyfriend is taller than I am. My school has a shitty football team. I play Pet Society on Facebook. All politicians are the same, in my opinion. I can’t eat sushi with a fork or else it feels awkward. I’ve never been to New Mexico. I’d definitely consider adoption if I couldn’t have my own children. I like plain-colored t-shirts. Horror movies don’t really scare me. I have a decent vocabulary. Lord of the Rings doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t play any sports. I prefer orange juice to apple juice. I like my toast with butter and jelly. I love cream cheese. I have a celebrity crush. I get frequent headaches. I can play a little piano. My boyfriend drives an Asian car. And so do I. I WANT MORE PIERCINGS. My favorite fruit is a type of berry. I miss somebody right now. Some of my friends live far away. I can burp out the alphabet. I love breadsticks. I can count to ten in at least two languages. I’d love to have a pet owl. I prefer dogs to cats. I only wear actual perfume on special occasions. But I wear body spray on a daily basis. I have pictures of my sibling/s on my phone. ______________________________________________________________

OKAY. Voltron season 8 thoughts below. Very much spoilery.

AND LONG I’M SORRY.

I took notes with a pencil on paper like the old-fashioned person that I am. Also I binge watched all 13 eps without any breaks so my thoughts might be a bit all over the place. But, let me try to organize them a little bit.

Allura x Lance

we gotta start with this shit.

I mean no hate, if you ship this then great, this is just my opinion.I respect your ship, you respect my ship. (I totally just wrote shit. Oops.)

it felt too rushed. like why make all of that happen in the first episode and then forget all about it for a few??!

it was too soon, like i didn’t really think it would happen? they should have had a little more waiting time before going all oooh allura totes said yes to a date with lance, like where did that come from??

allura has been paired with a lot of the male characters throughout the seasons, and I HATE THAT

let her be a strong female character without a love interest goddammit

yeah that is actually my main problem with allurance. like, wasn’t she just kissing lotor a while ago? and then she had her moments with keith? and first was shiro in the very first season i could tell they were thinking of making it a thing

ugh

that first kiss was so ugh i actually gagged too much romantic for me

that was not a grammatically correct sentence i am sorry i am an english major but it is just past midnight

i get that this show is aimed for a younger audience, but show some connection between the couple before they become a couple and after??

yeah i just don’t like this ship

i am still klance trash

but i will admit allura and lance kinda cuddling? that was cute af

also they were SO CLICHE at times (ep11... the ending...)

this didn’t have to happen? the season would have been great without it? this didn’t really add anything to it? other than a couple awkward kisses? forced hetero romance -.-

after their handshake thing in ep 11 i let out embarrassing noises because even with lance and allura i still can’t not ship klance okay

i love keith and hunk bonding or spending time together or getting stuck in an amusement park ride together

i love LOVE lions saving their paladins? like eating them in space? that shit so good mmh (ep 3)

i hate to see pidge cry do not make my child cry ever again

hunk has won over my heart i love him

Honerva (& Lotor and stuff)

iiiii’m not sure how i feel about her still being alive and being this season’s main villain

but i guess it makes sense since it’s the last season and all

they didn’t really have enough episodes to make a fully new villain

i really really wanted lotor to be dead and stay dead i mean he had his seasons now it’s momma’s time in the spotlight i mean what

honerva having guardians to protect her thoughts and memories reminded me of inception in some way

i liked the old paladins being there? it felt appropriate

little lotor was cute

and when he said she’s not his mom? yass alternate lotor do some good

honerva was a little predictable tho? like in the end esp. when she couldn’t have what she wanted she was like ‘the no one can have anything’

but of course she turned good and helped in the end

about that. THE ENDING THING

that. was. so. intense. actually this whole season was really intense

i don’t like multiple realities things in anything

it’s a cool theory but it usually doesn’t do it for me in books / movies / etc

this was no exception

they made it a thing and then forgot about it for a while

which, bleh

then they saved the universes with (OFC) enough time to say goodbye cause who needs to hurry when realities at stake lol there’s always time for a goodbye kiss

(but hell yeah lance with altean markings??!! why what how??! but hells yeah.)

yeah for a moment i was really afraid allura would find a way to come back? but THANK GOD that didn’t happen and she stayed dead

i had chills down my spine multiple times when they were giving inspiring speeches, like for example when they were leaving earth in ep1

ATLASBOT is thicc and i love her <3

theee video diary documentary ep was actually pretty cool, i liked it

i had my doubts when it started, but seeing everyone from a different perspective was really cool

(there was a dude named seok jin i see what you did there bts IS taking over the world)

(yes i am actually kpop trash)

it was really stupid having everyone elsewhere when allura was doing stupid shit with the dark orb what was it called again? anyway.

i didn’t like that part actually, her using the dark powers (lol is this star wars?? come to the dark side allura)

REALLY PRETTY ANIMATION AT TIMES THO!!! I LOVED IT!!!

some moments were a bit predictable but again, kids’ show

i really enjoyed by binge watch, despite all the critique i have said here

i like this show, and will be watching it again from the start some day

i still don’t remember the names of the new kids from last season but i guess i’m glad they didn’t die? i thought they might

i’m just rambling now i should just end this here

so, how's life? It’s kinda in the middle. I bought gifts for my Gab’s family and I went from having P4000 ($80) to measly P250 ($5) but it’ll be SO worth it because I got them stuff that they really wanted. I don’t even regret losing that much money because I found it fulfilling to be buying gifts for a family that I do love.

She mocked my breathing the entire time and told me–in the middle of my panicked breathing–that I was crying over something small. She also tried to wrestle my phone away from me and I have claw marks on my arm from that.
