it's a pet peeve of mine when ppl frame Andrew as hating Aaron and being needlessly cruel to him... bc while yes, their relationship is fractured and strained, Andrew genuinely cares about his brother and wants the best for him, he just doesn't know how to show that in a normal way.
like he might not know how to express it in a healthy manner but Andrew LOVES Aaron, like he truly just wants Aaron to be healthy and safe. It's like, his whole Thing. Aaron is one of the most important people in his life. Andrew wants him around. He'd do anything to protect him.
I guarantee Andrew wants to be emotionally close to Aaron too, he just doesn't have the tools to do that and the thought of letting someone in terrifies him. He also has no concept of what a healthy sibling relationship looks like, so he has no frame of reference to work from.

Happy Valentine's Day! It's the perfect day to proselytise aroace Kiran from Fire Emblem Heroes!
As the "protagonist" of a gacha game, AKA a soft harem game, it only makes sense for the self-insert character to be aroace! Got folks of all genders throwing themselves at you for no understandable reason? Got people taking your lack of interest as a personal challenge? Why, that sounds like the perfect setting for a character to realise and/or profess their aroace-ness!
Here are some satisfied testimonies from our existing representatives!
"Wow I had no idea Fjorm felt this way? Why? Since when? I thought she and Laegjarn were dating?"
"Uhhhhh Gunnthrá said what?????????"
"Do people know I have a job and responsibilities? I have a lot going on, I don't have time for this kind of stuff, do people realize we're at war like 24/7 and I'm literally the only person keeping this place from falling apart and—"
"How come it's always the girls confessing their love to me but not the guys? I mean I'm not into dudes but that doesn't mean I can't be. Actually, who says I'm not? Oriented aroaces exist and—"
"Hey Alfonse. Bro. Are we or aren't we partners. Are we or aren't we the perfect unit if we could be combined into one. Have you ever heard of Steven Universe by the way? Or of this thing called QPR?"
"How come Plumeria is always shit-talking me about lewdness when I literally didn't do anything? Like ok yeah I poked her, but I literally poke everyone? Also what's up with my dreams? Has she heard of this thing called intrusive sexuality that literally doesn't mean anything—"
"Hey, so, I don't know how to say this, Seiðr, but I don't want a baby and I also don't want to be a deadbeat parent, and also Gullveig and Kvasir keep saying things about feelings but I have no idea where that's coming from. Don't even get me started on Heiðr."
"Why are girls weird around me? Am I actually just a cat and never noticed? Is that why they keep petting me and cooing at me? I was just a cat this whole time and no one had the heart to tell me I'm not human?"
"You love me? Aw, thanks, I love you too! I love all of my friends!"
"What is love? Baby don't hurt me. Oh wait this song doesn't exist in Askr..."
"What do you mean they think I'm flirting!!!!!!!! What the heck is a flirting!!!!!! I'm literally just being a good friend what!!!!!!!!"
"I love Day of Devotion! It's a day where you're devoted to your loved ones! Yeah of course all my friends are my loved ones, what do you mean?"
"So when two people like each other very much, they perform this ceremony called ally-supporting, and for some reason people blush when they reach A-tier. I think it's because it's a very important milestone that happens to take place in what looks like a church, and they're afraid to look like they don't belong in a church. Something about Askran churches must seem very intimidating."
"Oh wow you have feelings for me for real? I thought people were just saying that for the bit."
"Oh wow you have feelings for me for real? Can you describe what what's like? I've never understood it and people take it really badly when I ask."
"So back in my world, we have this event called Asexuality Awareness Week taking place during the Harvest Festival, and this other event called Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week that takes place a week after the Day of Devotion."
"Hey does garlic bread exist here? Anyone got any cake?"
"I don't know any of these people. They keep wanting to talk to me and be friends. Well ok. I don't get it but I guess it's my job to ensure troupe morale. I thought that would be Sharena's job but I haven't seen her in forever. Sacrifices for the cause, I guess."
"What do you mean they think I'm flirting!!!!!!!! What the heck is a flirting!!!!!! I'm literally just being polite what!!!!!!!!"
Join today and headcanon your summoner as aroace! Add a layer of complexity to a silent character and off-the-rails writing! You may be entitled to emotional compensation!

Ein MyStreet isn't a compelling villain to me.
Please note how I said ME in the title. This is just how I feel. You're entitled to your own opinions. Also this isn't the most professional analysis, I am just saying what's on my mind in the moment. Anyway, let's get into it.
OK so basically: Ein had a lot of potential. In the first half of season 1 he was a cute "bad" boy who just wanted to not be the Omega of the school whilst also having a crush on Aphmau. Then Aphmau made him Alpha Male and then he stopped being a character.
It's framed that everything he did with Aphmau was just a ploy to get the position of Alpha but like... He was so genuine so many times? He was blushing and all, he helped her out with the hair dye. He was a good boy who actually had a thing for Aph.
But ok, let's just ignore his characterization up until the twist because ooohhh he's actually really mean and manipulative. Maybe it's because of the power he now has after being bullied for so long but it's SUCH a jarring shift in character for him.
I guess Jessica wanted to make an actual Villain character since Gene and Balto weren't the most threatening and evil but like... They're in high school? They're not gonna be evil masterminds like what she was trying to do with Ein.
Gene and Balto were just bullies and that fit for PDH S1. Ein being evil is to shut down any romantic progression he would have with Aphmau since Kai got character assassinated and was a dick to her on a date (+ Ein's meddling)
All so that Aaron can come "save the day" and beat up Ein and save Aphmau from an evil man that she never figured out was evil. The most Evil things Ein did was pick an Omega without Aph and also ruin her date.
Ein didn't want to be the omega anymore since he was sick of being seen as weak and being bullied and ignored, and the teacher WANTED him to take that title willingly, even after everything he's gone through with it. And he KNOWS that Aph would try and convince him To take it on as well, so that's why he picked one by himself. And the date thing... Yeah idk why he did that maybe he was just jealous idk i forgor.
OH YEAH and he beat the shit out of Kasey so that Katelyn can have a reason to be racist towards werewolves when the Ultima Reveal. Completely forgot about that.
I honestly think PDH S2 had an interesting set up with the love triangle. Kai has Aaron's personality whilst Ein has Aaron's attitude. (Aph & Aaron's romance is awful but i'm just pointing out symbolism).
Ein was also racist towards Humans since he is a werewolf supremacist and he wanted to make Aphmau a werewolf so that she'd be perfect. Also werewolves are a minority that's discriminated against so this character trait is a bit uh... Yikes!
Also I just remembered this but Ein was working with Gene to get close to Aphmau and Gene wanted pictures of Aphmau for some fucking reason?? What was that about. We get no context on this other than 1 scene btw.
So the next time we see Ein is in Emerald Secret! Oh boy, I got some words.
So about 15 years pass since PDH S2 and everyone is an adult in their late 20s. What has Ein been doing in all that time? Obsessing over a girl he met in high school, researching heavily into a folk lore in order to turn her into a werewolf. Also he's been doing illegal potion making and used one of those potions to turn an actual wolf, human, so that he can be the alpha of her wolf pack.
Also he's working with the biggest bad of them all, Micheal! But we don't meet him until Season 6 or something. He also may or may not be mind controlling Ein during Emerald Secret we don't know.
So what else does Ein do this season now that he's the big bad again? Other than the wolf thing, he also brainwashes Aphmau's friends into thinking he's their brother, makes Aphmau obey his every word and love him whilst also despising Aaron.
And makes her attempt to kill Aaron. Despite the fact that he needs Aaron to turn her into a werewolf first, after he denies when he's asked, Ein was like "Ok well. Aph kill him lmao."
He also "dies" in the end by getting mauled by the pack of wolves he made himself Alpha of.
I don't think it takes that much brainpower to see why this is an awful twist (he was also a twist villain btw we didn't know it was him until midway). His motivation is stupid, why are you still obsessed with some girl from high school, you're 28.
Why does he even still have those pictures of her in high school? Like if you're gonna be obsessed with her, at least stalk her so you can get the modern update???
Also, his werewolf supremacy is played up big time here to the point it makes you question why he wasn't obsessing over Aaron like Xavier was. Maybe Jessica didn't wanna repeat motivation? But Ein & Xavier are very different characters, you could make it work.
He was just a mess of a villain once you think about his motivation for 2 seconds. And then he shows up in When Angels Fall!! This one is shorter I promise.
So in WAF Ein uses another illegal potion to make werewolves (who were in hiding since the Government is taking every single one of them and interrogating them because they might be some ancient folklore beast). And makes them all obey his every word and call him Alpha.
It's confirmed that after High School, werewolf packs and Alphas don't matter in the real world so it's weird that he was obsessed with it in Emerald Secret.
Anyway after that, he kidnaps Aphmau to hold Aaron ransom and when he gets his werewolf ears back (Aaron took them away in ES) he kills Aphmau because he was being mind controlled by Micheal.
And then Aaron and Ein fight on a bridge, Aaron kills his mind controlled friends, and then kills Ein. So let's talk about it.
the thing with this is that... It just shows that Ein COULD'VE been written well if he was mind controlled by Micheal with the illegal potions. Since Micheal had 100% access to Ein at any time and Ein played a major role in Micheal's plan to trauma trigger Aaron.
And honestly it would've made Ein a much more compelling character if he just... Didn't have control over his actions. One theme with the main group is that they decide what to do with their lives and how to move forward.
But that wouldn't apply to someone who was controlled, now, would it? And since we know that the person under the effects of a forever potion still have a conscious, and can see all the acts that they don't have control over, it would've made Ein a tragic villain.
And if he was mind controlled by Micheal during Emerald Secret it would explain why Ein was obessed with Aphmau despite it being so weird. Because guess what, Ein & Aphmau are half siblings! So that re-contextualizes every interaction they ever had.
I think that Ein should've had an actual character instead of being a cartoon villain like Micheal was. Ein is the only character to have so much DIRECT action towards the main cast. Why would you make him so messy and one dimensional?
And the whole Mind Control thing is something that can be easily done. Ein uses forever potions to make people Obey Him, and since Micheal doesn't have enough power to mind control Ein 24/7, him using a potion like that on Ein would make so much sense.
Since Ein is shown to be decent at potion making and magic by the time we meet him. Micheal is the only one who could've taught him all of that. And the thing is: IT'S CANNON ONLY IN WAH. They met before ES but it's left so vague on what their relationship was that you could say Ein did everything in Emerald Secret by his own volition and you'd be right since nothing is confirmed.
If Jessica wanted to make this a serious story, WHY WOULD YOU STOP AT THE MOST RELEVANT VILLAIN??? He's literally related to Aphmau and was apart of the experimentation in some way but we don't know because he's not a character enough for him to be lore relevant other than him being a plot device. I'm so upset on the way Jessica wrote him since he could've been so much more than he actually was.
I wanna add something: The mind controlled by Micheal thing is only one possibility with his character. You can do a whole lot of other things. The reason why I focused on the mind-control thing is that it's an easy cop-out Jessica could do in order to make Ein an actual character.
Jessica isn't the best writer and loves tropes & cop-outs so it very well could've been done in story. But instead she let Ein be vague as hell and also tying him so closely into the lore.
I just want Ein to be a coherent character with understandable motivations behind his actions. There is no excuse for him to be this important and yet so messily written.
And now he's dead. RIP Ein MyStreet. You could've been one of the greatest.

On With The Show! (a Jed Hunter x reader fanfic)
What's this? Something a little different?
I don't usually write x reader fics, but I had a super cute idea for one featuring Jed Hunter and I had to get it out of my system. Since it's not explicitly romantic, it feels more like a "Jed Hunter AND reader fic". I really hope you guys enjoy it!
NOTE: This story features a non-cis reader, I've done my best to make it as unspecific as possible (so it can be enjoyed by people that use any pronouns), so hopefully it turned out OK
As soon as the cast list gets sent to you, your heart goes heavy. It's not the fact that you've lost motivation to be part of the production, working with renowned director Jed Hunter is a pretty big deal, it's the character he'd given you
Nobody's to blame. You're extremely selective about who you talk about your transition to; Royston Vasey isn't exactly known for being the most tolerant of places. Not that Jed seems like that sort of person, but you can never be too sure. However, you trust your gut and send an email asking if you could speak to him in person
A few hours later, you receive a response:
Hello!
Hope you're taking care of yourself on this chilly day. I have a meeting tomorrow, are you free on Friday at 12pm? If not, we can figure something else out
Wrap up warm!
J.H. 😊
You roll your eyes fondly at the Mum energy that radiates from his email, it might be a little corny but it's nice that he cares. You send an email confirming the meeting and go about the rest of your day
*********************************************
Jed is waiting in the same room you held your audition, sat backwards on his chair as usual. He gets up instantly and goes over to greet you, taking your hand and shaking it with a smile
"Hello hello, good to see you!" He gestured to a chair beside his own and sits down "Glad you made your way here safely."
"Other than witnessing about 5 different people bleeding from their noses, yeah I got here alright." You say as you sit down
"There seems to be a bloody-nose-epidemic, must be nice for vampires!"
It was a silly joke, but you can't help but feel a smile tug at the corners of your mouth. However, the jokes would have to wait, at least for now
"I guess I should tell you why I emailed."
"I assume it's not because you missed me!" Jed laughed a little "Take your time!"
"Well," you explain "it's about the film. I'm sorry, but I can't do it."
The way Jed's face fell a little didn't feel good, he seemed genuinely downhearted to lose you. Nonetheless, he remained professional
"That's a shame, but I understand. Thanks for letting me know ahead of time." He opened his mouth to speak, then put his finger to his lips thoughtfully "If you don't mind, is there any specific reason? If not, that's kewl, but if it's something that happened during the audition process-"
"Oh god no!" You say quickly "The process was fine, it's not that. It's the character."
Right, now I sound like an entitled twat
"Not that it's bad!" You explain "It's..." Come on, get it out "the gender."
You could see Jed trying to work out what you meant. At first, it's a little odd that it's taking him so long to get it, but that's probably what happens when you grow up in Royston Vasey. He didn't seem digusted, just very confused
"Does it not fit the character? I didn't give it much thought, but-"
"Jed, I'm transitioning. Y'know, gender reassignment?"
Finally, the penny seemed to drop and he instantly put his hand to his mouth in surprise
"Oh my god!" He jumps up and starts pacing around the room, looking for something "I'm so sorry, yes! I get it now, let me just..." after a bit of rummaging in a drawer, he found his trusty clipboard
Once he sits down again, you manage to catch a glimpse of the paper clipped to the board - it's your information from the audition. You watch as he pulls a pen out of his pocket and scribbles out parts of it before handing the paper and pen to you
"If you could fill that in for me, that'd be kewl."
"I told you, I can't play the character-"
"And, as director, I have the power to pull a few strings!" He speaks with pride, the charismatic glee on his face feels oddly comforting "We may need switch the script around a little, but Jeremy and I can talk about that."
The last thing you want is to make things difficult, but this was also a huge opportunity. Being in a Hunter film is a big thing, especially in a small town like this. Plus, Jed's known for being very good to work with, and it's hard to find respectful directors these days
And, technically, he was the one that suggested rewriting the character for you. Part of you doubts how easy it'll be, but the chance has to be there
You take the clipboard and pen, seeing the scribbled out sections where your name and pronouns could go
"You've scribbled out my surname."
"Well yeah, so you can write your name in. The one you want me to use."
"I haven't changed my surname," you say, amused by the gesture "I'm not getting married!"
"Perhaps another day then." Jed laughs "If that's what you're planning, of course."
You smile and fill in the form, but your eyes are drawn to the comments he wrote during your audition. Despite the scrawled handwriting, you manage to make out a few of the sentences:
WOW!
So much natural talent
Easy to work with, lights up the room
"Someone has a wandering eye," Jed teases, taking the clipboard back "that's confidential!"
"Don't act like you wouldn't do the same!"
"OK, you got me there." He holds up his hands "But all my feedback for you was positive."
"I just don't want to cause problems on my first project with you. I guess I'm trying not to make a bad impression."
Jed gets up and goes over to stand beside you, placing his hand on the back of your chair. There's an earnesty in his face, relaxed and soft
"Being a director isn't just about creating a piece," he explains "it's my job to make sure everyone's happy. Cast, crew, if something's not right, people should feel comfortable coming to me for support." He moves to crouch in front of you "Don't feel like you can't talk to me or that you're too much, you're allowed to ask for help."
It's reassuring to hear that, and you can tell Jed means every word. And, as you both stand and shake each other's hands something tells you this is the beginning of a fantastic partnership
A/N: So... there it is. This was entirely out of my comfort zone, but I don't think it turned out too bad - let me know what you think!

y'know sometimes I wish people (other citicaltypes like I've designated myself) would learn that disagreeing about something isn't the same as opposing morals. Like, ok: I keep seeing these people gab about the Barbie movie and the subplot with the Kens and people dishing honest to goodness DNI-bans for people who agree or disagree with the movie's take. Like, people are saying "if u don't agree with how the movie handled Ken u are literally a misogynist because the barbie movie said so!!" and like....no.
You're allowed to agree/disagree with a story's message, either because u think was handled badly or unintentionally offensive. Me and my pals don't hate Dear Evan Hansen or RENT or Music because they have mental illness talk/gaaays in them. I hate them because I think they are, intentionally or not, badly made and ignorant hallmark trash. I hate them because I think their stories fundamentally fail the themes they were attempting to talk about thru writing/research whatever and I'm entitled to be mad about that.
Your alarm bells should be going off the second you see someone hate something on account of ideals alone; the way most debatebros get whenever Hollywood announces a new racelifted character as though THAT'S the problem with soulless remakes. I guess I'm just lucky, but none of the Kenstans I'm seeing are legit saying "yeah patriarchy IS good/get in your place woman letmebeclingy too". They're mostly just sad that Ken was 'reduced' to this kind of story or they thought the misogyny message was too on the nose and patronizing. For what it's worth I actually don't agree with that and like what the movie did with Ken but like...you're not a bad person who can't be trusted if you disagree with me on the Barbie movie.

i find it very disingenuous to say that the only people who are complaining about the peter pan and wendy movie are white, or that there's anything suspicious about it. sure, i cant prove it (on anon), but my sister and i (both black) have been fans of the peter pan story for years and think that the disney+ version is bad for a variety of reasons, nothing to do with diversity (as i'm assuming that other anon was implying). plenty of peter pan adaptations are diverse (hook, the syfy neverland miniseries, fox's peter pan and the pirates), a couple portraying peter as black (wendy, come away- both movies from 2020). it's a shame that people are pointing at yara playing tink as the problem (or alexander playing peter), when the whole cast could be white and it would still be a lackluster film. not liking a movie doesnt suddenly make fans of color "white"
in that same vein, i'll be out to support the lice action little mermaid, but the cgi of the backgrounds and animals, as well as the coloring and lighting, looks bad. so i'm there to support halle, but if it's a bad movie i'm not gonna pretend it's not (like with peter pan and wendy)
you're entitled to your opinion ofc. I never said poc all had to agree with me. but as someone who watched the original cartoon on repeat and watched peter pan 2003 about a dozen times when the movie came out on dvd peter pan and wendy really had lots of nostalgia for me. like I owned hook since it came out on vhs and I was obsessed with it because Rufio was filipino and my grandfather was filipino. like yeah it was more diverse than what had come before but it still didn't give us a legacy character from the original jm barrie works that were racebent. And like yes you say you didn't like this adaptation but you don't mention those reasons. Like I was thinking of making a video on this adaptation and I hope you don't mind but I'm using this as an example of ppl holding diverse adaptations to higher standards than the original *white* versions.
Like at this point I'm not even gonna guess at what your complaints are because I will literally get more out of views on youtube for a video. so come back later when I've written, shot, edited a review on why this is legitimately a great step forward in peter pan adaptations and I enjoyed it quite a lot.
mod ali
PS I've also seen the syfy peter pan adaptation with the amazing Q'orianka kilcher (who btw not nearly enough ppl used to fancast her as Katniss everdeen but I digress). It was ok but it felt a bit like Battlestar Galactica where a miniseries was done with the intent to launch a show and then the show never happened. Whereas with Peter Pan and Wendy you can totally see a franchise coming about from this and it would be LOADS better than say OAUTs Peter pan.

Since we're on that thing with entitled minors. I just remembered this story, and I think it's a bit funny. Not super related to my dolls, but also kinda is?
Most of my main characters are in their 30-50's, they might start out a bit younger, but most of the story plays when the characters are in that age range, just because as a teen, I grew tired of stories focusing on 14-19 yo's, since it just felt like the same thing over and over. So I decided it'd be interesting focusing on "older" characters. Well, you don't actually know at first read that they're that old, though I do mention them not being teens and stuff. Well, some kid who apparently was on the same server as me, server focuses on writing characters and world building, had the strangest freak-out when they found out that most of my characters "middle" aged, (I don't even think 30-40 really counts as middle aged these days?) and apparently thought it was the grossest thing that I'd make my MC's all grown adults.
LoL. Anyway, this was all in a convo I had with another server member when we compared and just had a small convo about our progress. That kiddo was lurking, and then literally went to a mod and complained, the mod just contacted me and said the minor had been telling them I was being creepy, and I was excluding* them, even though I'd never interacted with the kid before.
Few key words the mod gave me was that it was predatory, creepy, and that I was making the kid feel unwelcome. Repeat, I never interacted with the kid before, the kid was not even joining the convo, and I didn't even talk about anything even close to the NSFW line, it was just the most basic convo about "Yeah ok, So A is 30, and B is 40'ish, but they don't really interact after their first meeting until a year later." Just that kinda stuff. If that wasn't enough, kiddo then had a petty rant while I was AFK, and wrote an essay about how it was iffy for us adults to focus so much on how much older a character is from being a teen. And if you write a character old just for the sake of being old, you must have issues with people being young. Tl:Dr for the entire probs 1000 word essay: If you have old characters and mention it, you are weird because you must be a creeper to specifically mention a character being old instead of young, and it's sus if your young characters grow old.Yes, you read that right. And yes, the kid insinuated you're a pedo for NOT writing teen characters as your MC's, or for having teen characters become 30+ yo adults bc you're aging up a "minor" bc aging up means you wanna frick them. * Excluding is a more specific rule about several people ignoring a single person for no reason when the person is actively engaging with the others. If you have a problem with a person you tell a mod, not do schoolyard bs like ignore them. It's taken seriously so I guess that's why the kid said it, and why mod mentioned it. Only way I can relate this to my dolls, is that these characters are represented by a few dolls I own. And Bonus story for that, because I had a similar experience in a way.-
I buy adult sculpts which often still look young because there's no wrinkles, or anything in the sculpt itself, bc let's be real, there's no real middle ground specifically for mature older looking sculpts. You either have kid-teen dolls, smooth skinned adult, or deformed shrivelled oldies. The few who technically would work just aren't my aesthetic sadly. So I normally get mature sculpts, and then add in small wrinkles, like under eye, crowsfeet, and smile lines, while doing the face-ups. Twice I've gotten a comment that I'm doing "the face-up wrong" because the doll aren't "intended to have wrinkles" and one said that me using "young" sculpts implies I'm sexualizing teens. Just for reference, the pics I got this specific comment on, is on a pic of two Loongsouls I own, and each of those is on the mature body sculpt so 68-75cm, which I'd argue are their clearly adult sculpts/sizes.

Would admitting that I don’t really like Faith make me a heretic? (Wait I just realized I made a god tier pun - HA I just did it again). She could be fun sometimes as a villain, but her overall character arc really did not land well from my perspective and she can be REALLY annoying at times, especially when it comes to how she treats Buffy. Most of the other people I’ve found who also feel that way about Faith are Bangels who also don’t like Spike (besides like two mutuals of mine), so I feel like I’m mostly on my own.
The only heresy possible 'round here is hate on a good pun and you're obviously not in danger of that lol we are all entitled to our own opinions :)
I've had mixed feelings on Faith since I first watched the show, and the more I read of other people's takes the more mixed they become, I guess because I never had strong opinions on her. I agree she's fun as a villain and her arc could be a lot better, and because there's so much potential for her to redeem herself and they never really get into that, it gets annoying. Yeah you could argue she was influenced by the scoobies and watchers' treatment of her, but there's more to her character than purely reactionary actions. I like what she does for Buffy's arc in the third season, how she influences her as a shadow/love interest, but she goes so far into villain territory in s3 and s4 and then never has a meaningful turning point or exploration into her guilt and desire to make up for what she's done and it does her character a disservice. It's briefly glossed over in ats, and then she goes to prison and poof she's fixed. Like most things in ats, it takes a female character with great potential and throws her into an easily written box for her to be of use later without taking the time to actually delve into her psyche and try to rectify her impact on the story and Buffy (but ohoho ats isn't Buffy's show even though it wouldn't exists with Buffy (the character and the show) so we just don't have to deal with any of that??). So I do see where you're coming from in your frustration with Faith, it sucks they just made her a hero turned villain and didn't give her a chance to atone or even really apologize to Buffy.
I can see how people who don't like Faith can also not like Spike; they're both shadows of Buffy that also serve as love interests, and both have done really awful things and are framed as villains, but they really only give Spike a meaningful arc (which don't get me wrong, was the right choice, Spike is a fantastic character and deserved the elaboration, and more). I feel like not liking Faith or Spike and liking Bangel is a very simple take, like, those are the surface opinions the writers want you to have, at least in the earlier seasons, they're easy opinions to have (and it's fine if you do!) But I'm a big fan of complexity and digging deeper into characters and relationships so I have very opposite feelings. Though still, not liking Faith for her actions against Buffy and her loved ones are more than understandable, and I do agree to really get her back to a kind of protagonist status, I need more repentance and effort from her for it to make sense, rather than just plopping her into the last season like "look prison works everything is fixed!" I guess there just wasn't enough time to fit an actually meaningful arc for her into the show? And the show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not Faith the Vampire Slayer. Still, her own redeptive arc couldbe complimented or contradicted Buffy's somehow, like maybe in season 5 and 6, as Buffy feels like she's losing herself, she doesn't know how to marry these two parts of herself, woman and slayer, it might've been interesting to see Faith doing just that as she worked through her stuff. I dunno, I'm just spitballing, my point is that whatever it could be, it would have to subtextally be about Buffy. Though maybe they were already doing that with Spike so that would've been Too much lol
ok I'm stopping there before this gets any longer lol

Ok so I was going through pinterest and I saw a sneme ( Ya know the 'da fuq' snape template) AND GUESS WHAT I SAW IN THE PHOTO SHARING SECTION? A FUCKING ANTI POST. (The one that goes "Yeah let me just walk over your husband's dead body like he's nothing bla bla" @moonlightdancer26 made a post about it)
So this is to them and every other person like them:
Please get a life. Is your life SO sad that you have to comment about bitchy things a character did oN A POST WHICH IS A LITERAL JOKE AND ISN'T EVEN DISCUSSING THE CHARACTER IN THE FIRST PLACE??
Like am I shoving my arse into posts discussing if the marauders would snore or not to say that the marauders were entitled rich stuck up bullies who deserved their deaths? No.
Am I going to a meme post about draco's daddy issues Saying he was a spoiled brat, a rich bullly and a racist little shit who just had pretty privilege? No
Am I giving Death threats to people who like the marauders who were cardboard cutouts and plot devices? No.
Why? Because I know how to be respectful. (And because I have a bigger brain and more common sense than you but that's off topic)
SO YA KNOW, BE FUCKING RESPECTFUL OF US TOO.
OR-
𝙊𝙝 𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙩..
𝙊𝙧 𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜
Because I (and most of the snapedom) am not a petty little bitch like most people in your hell of a fandom, I won't do anything And continue admiring Snape because his fictional character arse is more worth my time than your whiny one ever will be.
So Now That you're not getting the negative attention, you can shove your head in a pillow and cry about how Severus Snape will always be a better character than any character you'll ever stan :) <3

hello, i am the anon from before who asked about penny's return. thank you so much for taking a lot of time and effort to give such a comprehensive answer. you're a fantastic writer! i read every word of this, i really did! but... i am part of the penny 3.0 return crowd so... as you might guess, this post gave me some very complicated feelings. i have no idea if i've ever actually believed any of the 3.0 theories, or if it's just that i miss her so much (she was personally important to me) that I can't come to terms with her being gone. shrug. it might just be that i personally don't want my favorite character's arc to end in tragedy and i'd rather make myself feel better by hanging onto some sort of hope, regardless of plausibility, for as long as I can. i want to make it clear I don't think the writers owe me anything, though, because it's their show, not mine. i think maybe your post was a good reality check? i think reading that will make it easier for me if/when the time comes that I have to accept she's just gone for good. sorry for the rambling.
👋 hi anon!
for whatever it’s worth i think it’s very normal and okay and fair to have that kind of reaction when a character we really resonated with dies or even just suffers through hardship—i don’t think there’s anything remotely entitled about just feeling sad and hoping that something that looks like the end isn’t actually. that’s just. part of grieving? wishing it could not have happened? and with fiction there’s this inherent nonreality that means that wish at least has the theoretical potential to be realized, and that makes it in some ways more potent, i think.
and i do get the feeling wrt penny in particular i mean, i am not writing fifteen thousand words about her character arc because she didn’t have a big emotional impact on me dkdsjsh 😭
(my intro to the penny resurrection theory was finishing 8, learning my gf’s sister is all in on the theory, going ??? and scrolling through her whole tag and blogwalking a bit to glut on the theory posts, and finding a. decent chunk of them actually flat out saying the crew has a responsibility to “fix” penny’s death and “make right” the harm done to penny fans by bringing her back, & those sort of posts are specifically what that section of mine is responding to 🥴)
i do think there’s also, yeah, value in being able to step back from it and look at like, the general shape of a story to ask “ok, is there really support for this to happen or am i just hoping really hard?” bc it can be genuinely crushing to get your hopes up about something so much that you end up convinced it’s going to happen only for it to… not, and managing expectations is the best way to avoid doing that to ourselves. (*stares at my other hyperfixation* i have…been there haha 🙃)
(and as facetious as i was being with the ‘try fanfiction’ thing in the behemoth, rly this is exactly what fanfiction is for, exploring alt scenarios where a character gets a different ending or takes a different path, and i think that’s a good avenue to channel these sorts of feelings into, whether by reading or writing.)

So you're saying you don't think "underage" fic is gross. Is that what youre saying?
well, no. yuck. what i’m saying is, what exactly and specifically do we want to happen?
there should not be explicit fic about underage characters, got it. so what age can they not be under? 18? 16? what country’s laws regarding the age of consent do we prioritize? like, i think it’s gross that the age of consent is 16 in some places, but i’m an american, so i would, wouldn’t i? so ok, what if we hedged it a bit and put the age as like, 14? that way it’s not little kids, it’s all teenagers. but no, gross, 14-year-olds are children. fun fact: so are 16-year-olds. they are also children.
what about fic about two teenagers having a consensual encounter? should all romantic or sexual fic have to be about adults only? your answer to this may very well be “yes,” and that’s completely valid. a teenager writing fic might disagree. somebody who’s a big fan of a show that’s about a bunch of teenagers might disagree. should there be an adults-only section on the site? there’s already a “stop, you have to be 18″ box to check before you can access explicit fic, so how do we verify a user’s age? they can just lie about their age and click through anyway. you have to be 18 to make a youtube account and i’ve had one since i was 13. i remember very deliberately choosing a new birth year when it asked for my birthdate.
then you get to slightly greyer areas like large age gaps, or heavy role play between consenting adults. i have absolutely witnessed fic that’s clearly written to be CP, but it’s tagged as age play. so like, for all intents and purposes this is CP, but if you roll in like “hey, this is fucked up,” they can be like, “oh, so you read this picturing actual children, sicko?? you have a problem with two adults doing shit in the bedroom??? how dare you!!! don’t like don’t read!!!”
it’s kind of like on porn sites, how they make like nasty inc*st stuff but call it “stepmom” or whatever, like oh, they’re not actually related! sure, joseph, thanks for covering all your bases
so we can’t ban kinks. or can we? should we limit depictions of serious addictions or domestic abuse too? torture, or even body horror? these are generally accepted to be dark content.
i’m not trying to engage in whataboutism, i’m naming actual, relevant questions about shit that’s disturbing in real life (no offense to kink people who follow codes of consent and conduct) and can be incredibly upsetting to encounter online. shit that i can’t imagine wanting to read, let alone write.
these are the questions that we, you, i, people pro-a*3 and people anti-a*3, are all asking, and not a single one of us can or should answer them unilaterally.
so it’s like, oh, okay, so there should be no oversight at all? should there be no rules? no, obviously, that would be horrible, i don’t trust any of these fuckers to conduct themselves civilly. so there should be some rules, but not too many rules. that’s what we have now, and clearly the way things are now isn’t working because a lot of users are reasonably very upset.
should there be a voting system, and rules are set by a popular vote? should certain words be flagged and you can’t post the fic with that word in it? should there be a thing where when you post a fic, you have to select the ages of each character and that’s listed at the top of the fic? what if they age during the fic? should there be a flagging function, where you report someone for not using sufficient tags? users will find workarounds for all of this. you know they will. so mods will have to be very specific about the rules and introduce, like, a vetting system for it. which is a lot more manpower and a lot more chances for subjective judgments.
all of the above is why it operates on a tagging system instead. i’m gonna be real, i only go on a*3 to read comments on my own shit lmao, and even when i did go on there more often i never went in the tags searching for fic. so is there a blacklist function? is there a flagging function?
if there is a flagging function, maybe they make it so that if the flagged user has violated the rules, their account is suspended and their fic made private for the duration and until they add necessary tags.
cool, a compromise. but uh-oh, it turns out Mod A agrees that this fic is n*ncon, but Mod B thinks it’s just vague, not n*nconsensual, and doesn’t feel comfortable banning the fic. or it turns out User didn’t post anything flaggable, they were reported by somebody who is targeting them for some reason, or by someone who is more stringent about n*ncon than somebody else would be, like, it’s gotta be enthusiastic and verbal consent or else it’s skirting the edges too much.
it’s like, we’ve already witnessed censorship (please take this word usage gently, i know it’s touchy but it’s the word to use here) being a problem here on tumblr with their stupid nipple ban. there’s a double standard regarding whose nipples are explicit and whose are kosher for public consumption. people have to appeal their shit getting flagged and sometimes nothing gets fixed regardless. i’m sure other people are pleased that there’s less of a chance of them accidentally scrolling past a picture of a hard dick at work.
so you get it, this is a problem that’s more complicated than “all of x should be banned and if you post it there’s something wrong with you,” a belief you’re more than entitled to hold but can’t base, like, fanfic legislation off of. you get it you get it.
you get it, but like, what is the fucking deal with those “fandom moms” who go off on soliloquies about the days of old or whatever the fuck whenever this topic comes up? what about the weirdos who are like, “what’s next, banning gay fic????” yeah, if we allow gay marriage you can marry a tree, that’s how it works, thanks tiffany.
but no, the reason they do this is NOT that they think lgbtq content is comparable in any way to CP. the reason they do this is that this exact problem has taken place on every site that has ever hosted fic. and many previous sites did think lgbtq content was comparable to CP. it was categorized as adult content and hidden.
that’s why a*3 exists in the first place. it was to avoid godmodding and absolutism. it’s supposed to be more or less self-governed. i don’t want there to be CP on a*3 any more than you do, but i also don’t trust randos to decide what is and isn’t acceptable content. this topic is not new.
i’m in support of stronger government regulation in real life because it can be argued that certain actions and systems violate human rights. everybody deserves food and shelter, for example. the same can’t be argued in this case because some creep writing CP doesn’t violate my rights. i find it offensive and i don’t think they should be writing it, but my right to click the back button is intact. there is no institution making it impossible or even difficult for me to not read fanfiction. the creep could just as reasonably argue that their right to post what they want is being affected.
why is this response so long? is it because i can’t shut up? yes, but also because this is a complex issue and that’s why nobody has taken significant action on it.
people are also big mad.
i’ve never understood this impulse to see somebody not doing a thing you want them to do and assume it’s out of malice or incompetence, anyway. i don’t know anybody who volunteers for a*3 but it’s my assumption that given the choice to have us all pissed at them, or have us all not pissed at them, they would choose to have us not be pissed at them. it just seems like the reasonable reaction to have. and like, i’d be pretty shocked to part the kimono and find out they’re all CP-loving gargoyles and a*3 actually stands for A lot Of child abus3. that is the reason i have not been like, “fuck a*3.” because what are they supposed to do, you know?
there’s no simple or inarguably morally right solution here. the princess is in another castle. just post fic on tumblr, i guess? make another hosting site that’s exactly like a*3 but romantic characters can only be like, 21?
i actually think the legal age in the US should be raised to 21, not joking. your brain literally and biologically isn’t finished developing at 18. teenagers lack the world experience to make decisions that adults make.
somewhere there is an 18-year-old or a person who moved out and became self sufficient at 18 who hates this sentiment. there’s a teenager in an abusive home who would be intensely demoralized by the prospect of having to remain beholden to these people for three more years.
and there’s a parent who is relieved to know that their kid can’t be preyed on by army recruiters for three more years. there’s a person who got into a car crash with a teenager who misjudged whether or not they could make a turn who’s like, yeah, she could probably have benefited from a few more years.
nothing is as simple as it should be. i agree with you, but i’m not willing to pass blanket judgments with regards to actions that should be taken. and honestly, given how little i actually go on the site, i don’t even have a dog in this fight. so all my opinions on it are moot anyway.
(side note, if you are in an abusive home and you can’t make your own bank account, or if your bank account is monitored by your abusive parents, maybe try venmo? you can get a debit card that pulls directly from your venmo balance. a surprising number of places accept venmo payments, and this way you can save up money in secret.)
anyway uhhhhh seeya

Cassie: "Nonnie, I do get where you're coming from. I think C just realizes D is worth it and I do believe, in my heart of hearts, it won't always be this way." If your bf is choosing to live a fake life and expects you to just go along with it for X number of years, he is not worth it. I don't care if he is Darren Criss or any other attractive famous man, no person on Earth is worth the heartache that ccChris has probably been through whilst watching his "hubby" constantly choose fame over him.
Cassie’s answer really blew me away. She’s has chugged down all of Abby’s Kool-Aid and she’s fully buying into Abby’s juvenile ideas about relationships, sacrificing for love, and the power of love. THE 5 have clearly read Twilight one too many times! Everything they know about love, they learned from Bella and Edward who taught them with the idea that love is all-consuming, that there is no sacrifice that is too much as long as he loves you, and that in the end, happily ever will save the day.
You’re right, there are a lot of scenarios where love is not enough and you have to walk away for your own mental or emotional well being. Sometimes it is an abusive partner making bad ccchoices and sometimes it is a wonderful partner whose future no longer looks like yours. One of my favorite Youtubers just announced she split with her husband 2 years ago and kept it a secret- even wearing her rings in the first half of this video! They broke up simply because they reached a point where they realized there was a fundamental difference in what they each wanted in life and the relationship couldn’t go forward (she wouldn’t say what that was). My husband’s cousin got divorced after her husband realized he wanted to be a dad and she wasn’t interested in children. Another YouTuber I watch called off their engagement after they realized she wanted a picket fence on a cul-de-sac and he wanted to a cave in the middle of nowhere (he was dead serious).  Their goals were incompatible and asking one to compromise wasn’t fair or healthy. ccDarren chose fame over ccChris and their relationship. ccDarren is unwilling to risk his position in Hollywood in order to openly love ccChris. He is so caught up in being THE actor, musician, and executive producer Darren Criss, that he married a woman he despises and spends all his time with her. She enjoys the lifestyle his fame has provided for him while ccChris has to hide in the rafters and scurry around ccDarren’s life completely unseen. ccDarren is incapable -or unwilling -to rid himself of his toxic team whose main goal is to “ccruin him” and by extension, ccChris. I don’t believe that the same man who gave this interview would choose to stay in a relationship where his feelings and needs always come second to ccDarren’s career.  Spending 1:00 am-7:00 am spooning the night away is hardly compensation for having to keep their relationship hidden and standing by while his lover lives his life with another person. Scurring in the dark and in disguise certainly isn’t enough to keep a relationship alive and healthy for 10 years.
(My comments are in italics below)

Anonymous asked: I love Cc, but I just can’t imagine C agreeing with all this and if he did, my heart still hurts for him.
cassie1022 answered: Nonnie, you’re more than entitled to your opinion. I, respectfully, disagree. C is not a victim in all of this. He made a conscious and willing decision to stand with D. He’s just as culpable in all of this as D is and he’s tried to show that on more than one occasion. I’m not heartbroken for C and I don’t think he would want us to be. At the end of the day, he has a love most people only dream about. Many people perceive C as being the more fragile of the two, and I think that’s a grave mistake. C’s the glue that holds them together. He’s always had to fend for himself and the world wasn’t always kind to him. D grew up in this seemingly perfect little world where he trusted everyone and thought people were mostly good and that’s part of why he’s in this situation. (Cassie et. al believe that love makes it all ok and that ccChris chose to stay so making him as culpable as ccDarren. It’s an interesting theory- basically, she’s saying that anyone who is an abusive relationship is culpable for the abuse because they chose to stay in the relationship. This is a dangerous and harmful belief because it ignores all of the barriers that keep people in abusive relationships- lack of money, lack of a safe place to go, fearing for their lives if they leave, low self-esteem from the abuse-to name just a few. I realize that Cassie is just turning ccChris staying in an abusive relationship into ccconfirmation bias, but she’s speaking to a lot of young people who don’t understand that and are learning that they should always stay because love makes everything ok.  “At the end of the day, he has a love most people only dream about.” Besides the fact that that kind of love exists in fanfiction and Twilight, I am gobsmacked that a middle-aged adult would imagine she knows this about Chris Colfer’s love life. The most Chris has ever said about his love life is to say tell a young fan that his dedication was to his boyfriend, to acknowledge to Andy Cohen that he had a boyfriend, and to acknowledge to Sandra Bernhart that Will was his boyfriend. Oh, and he said several times that he was not in a relationship with Darren. To believe he has a “love that most people only dream about” she would have to fabricate every detail single details she thinks she knows.  That is not the behavior of a healthy adult.   Big strong ccChris who went through hell and came out so strong that nothing touches him now. He’s the “glue that holds them together” and the “Captain of the ship” even though he’s literally being ignored while ccDarren lives a very full life with Mia by his side. Poor widdle, innocent ccDarren who grew up wealthy and since wealthy people live perfect lives and everyone around them is kind, he never learned who to trust. Gag)
flowersintheattic254 You only have to watch the impact theory interview to see what drives C. C is strong and he stands up for those who are marginalized. C is tough and stronger than people give home credit for and he’s loyal too. (See the video and my transcript below. Notice that Chris never mentions his love life in any of the statements that Flowers believes are 100% about his relationships)

I agree with @flowersintheattic254. This is such a good interview
Anonymous asked: I guess it makes sense that C’s the rock. I guess it’s just me thinking that since C’s out and proud, he deserves the same from his partner. But as you said, D was too trusting and I guess C is his strength, keeping him from giving up on everything shitty he’s going through. (Such a good little minion, repeating everything she’s groomed to believe)
Cassie: Nonnie, I do get where you’re coming from. I think C just realizes D is worth it and I do believe, in my heart of hearts, it won’t always be this way.
**************************************************
I listened to Chris’s interview and he was asked about ambition:
Chris: ... I was really good at playing that character (Kurt).  People really do think I was playing myself and although we were experiencing very very similar things, I was very different from that character.  I was much more cynical than that character.
Tom: In fact, I am glad you brought that up. I heard in an interview someone asked you if you were a character in Game of Thrones and you said ‘I want to say that I would be the Mother of Dragons but I think I am actually Cersei’.
Chris: I‘m sorry but she is a woman who knows what she wants and she goes out and she gets it. Her methods-her strategy- is a little questionable but I just love any woman with a drive. I remember when I was in my senior year of high school I was chosen to put on my own show. It’s called the senior show.  Every year one senior in the drama class got selected to basically put on whatever they want and usually they would put on an SNL-type variety sketch kind of show, but I was like “Nope I’m writing a musical” and I gender-reversed Sweeny Todd and called it Shirley Todd so I could be Mrs. Lovett so I was Mr. Lovett.  Because we were all seniors, no one wanted to do it and I ended up blackmailing all of them to be in it.  It was a great show.
Tom: Walk me through how that drive and ambition has manifested in your life. Is that something you value in yourself? Is that something that you’re skeptical of in yourself because when you answer that question- and I fully understand that was a little tongue-in-cheek, but when you say “I fear that I’m actually Cersei” is there part of you that is very cognizant that there is a line that you can cross with drive and ambition or...
Chris: Oh I think so, I think that ambition is so much a part of who I am-maybe to a fault- but I’ve never got to the point where I was so ambitions that I was causing harm. I think growing up, ambition and hope and goals and dreams was literally all that I had. My family didn’t have money and I wasn’t good looking and I wasn’t athletic, I could act and I could sing, I could write but there aren’t many areas for you to do that when you are a young person- at least when I was a young person they weren’t. So I think my ambition sort of just became my imaginary friend. It was a survival tool, it wasn’t narcissism, it was survival.
Tom: In that, I can be somewhere else, I can be bigger than this, I can go places was that the sort of your savor mechanism?
Chris: Yeah, I think it was  Making a treasure map to a life that was better than what the life I was in currently. That is what it was for me.  Hence, why I also identify so much with fantasy and superheroes and Greek mythology and literature it was all part of ...yeah, I always use fictitious people as my examples of getting somewhere.
---------
Chris: To go back to what you said about bullying, I’m in a weird place right now because I played a bullied kid on national television, you know for 20 million people a week watched me get pushed into lockers and thrown on floors and called “a faggot” called “queer”... all these negative things and I experienced all that myself in real life.  I really let people know that was one of the reasons why people connected to my performance because it was coming from such a real place and I let people know i was bullied horribly when I was a kid. I was bullied so horribly in middle school that my mom pulled me out of school and homeschooled me because the harassment got so severe.  But I’m at his weird place right now that I feel like I’m so not a victim anymore ...that I kind of- maybe it’s my ego- I don’t know, but I get tired of being associated with someone who is bullied because I don’t allow that to happen anymore. At all! I’m proud of where I’m at now because the minute I see someone who tries to take advantage of me or isn’t kind... I have the option to walk away now- which I didn't when I was a kid. But I feel like I have to stop talking about it because I’ve told millions and millions of kids around the world that it is something you get to leave behind.  Because of my circumstances, I don’t get to leave it behind because I’m always asked about it and it’s a good thing to talk about because it’s still going on but as a certain point, I feel like I’m doing the kids who look up to me a disservice when I keep talking about it becuase it does-maybe for them-  seem like it doesn’t leave me. Does that make sense?
Tom: If this was the last words that you speak on the subject of being bullied what would you say that was your process to close that chapter.. to feel good about yourself.  I’m definitely putting words in your mouth, being born in some way where that is not who you are anymore?
Chris: It is really about just knowing that you get to move on from it. That is the thing... adolescence is the toughest time in your life because you have no freedom but you have all this responsibility. You are expected to make adult decision but you don’t get the benefits of being an adult and you’re literally trapped in an environment- high school- unless you are homeschooled. You have no control of who you are around and probably the lesson or the bridge that I crossed in my life that has given me the most relief is knowing that I don’t have to be in any environment that I do not want to be in. I think that would be the message that I would give to kids who are being bullied. But also the world is full of assholes. Bullies, they do go away at a certain point, but there will always be people in your life that you don’t like, that are mean and rude and when you do go through a period of harassment- especially when you are young- you do learn how to overcome that and how to maybe have inner peace but you can’t ever control the world around you but you do learn a lot of good communications skills. I think.
Chris makes it very clear that he is NOT Kurt
Chris identifies with a character who knows what she wants and goes out and gets it. That is very different from ccChris who is sitting back and accepting that he is not a priority for 10 years and counting.
Ambition and drive are very important to Chris- ccChris is allowing Darren to drive the relationship.  Darren is getting everything he wants while Chris continues to make all of the sacrifices.
Chris is adamant that he will not be bullied every again and that he will wake away from anyone taking advantage of him. The cc fandom heard this and saw it as confirmation bias because he is still in a ccrelationship with ccDarren aka he doesn’t see the relationship as being abusive or that he’s being taken advantage of therefore ccChris just confirmed CrissCofler is real and that ccChris is in control.
The final paragraph is once again confirmation bias- Chris no longer has to be in an environment he doesn’t want to be in- hence he’s happy with ccDarren. By saying that people are still assholes, he confirmed that Ryan Murphy, Mia and Darren’s team are all assholes but he’s in control now and it doesn’t let them ruin his life..

1) Okay, I'm late (bc rl sucks), but I'm back and I'll gradually address everything. "Also do not feel any pressure to respond to my multiple essays! I understand completely!"The same goes to you, bc I feel like I'm bothering you too much. That being said, I truly enjoy talking to you. Not only you offer fresh/perceptive insights into the characters' minds (which made me a. reconsider scenes and motives, b. wanna rewatch S1 --some scenes you're commenting on are SO fuzzy in my head-- mind you,
2) 2) I’m already rereading the book), but you also provide such hilarious, sarcastic lines (some of them are absolute killers).
3) personalities” I know you have an inkling of who’s who. :D But damn, that ‘lesbianing’ bit had me giggling. Kudos, fellow anon. Since we’re on the subject, I have another question about your fic (if you don’t mind): is it post s2 or s1/s2 canon divergent? b) “Add horrid fangirls to that and it’s a big ass no lol.” Ugh. Fandom smh manages to sour my opinion of characters/ships/series I personally like. Especially when fans start pestering the creators to cater to their whims or harass actors
4) or start ship wars. Double ugh. c) “So, that’s the Mass Effect connection!” Two more similarities: i. Mass Effect’s Miranda Lawson got a lot of fandom hate back then (even though she was a famous character), just like Serena. ii. She has a back-and-forth, bickering (hateful but not THAT complex) relationship with another female character. d) “I have seen Westworld! Well, okay, just the first season. I got too tired/confused to get past the 2nd season premiere.” Oh, sorry. I shouldn’t have
5) assumed. Believe me when I say it’s a good thing you stopped watching when you did. The overall quality of the series remained pretty much the same (e.g. acting, cinematography, direction), but, oh boy, some new plot twists (which I usually like) are SO OVER THE TOP in order to impress (?) the audience. It’s reached a point where some characters are unrecognizable, bc they’re servants to the plot. Maeve has a lot bigger arc in S2 and Newton is thriving (imo, S2!Maeve >> S1!Maeve), but so is
6) Strahovski/Serena. :D e) “don’t go around bitching at people who say shitty things or stuff I don’t agree with, or blocking anybody who doesn’t like her."Ah, another thing we have in common. There were times I’ve been blocked by fandom people (with beautiful edits) that I NEVER interacted with (except for maybe reblogging from each other). That’s not me complaining. Like I said, each to their own.I just find this phenomenon funny at times. Story time. Once, an out of nowhere anon (whose msg I
7) didn’t publish, bc drama is SO not my thing) said they’d block me, bc of an uploaded gifset for a canon pairing (which wasn’t to their taste apparently) that was tagged as #[series]edit (although the ship!portmanteau was right there, too, so that people could easily block it). I remember being like: "Okay. Good for you, anon!” LOL. f) “I dunno if you see spoilers but there’s one about them.) She needs therapy so much more than a cutesy feelgood storyline.” I did NOT actually, but feel free to8) enlighten me.

I am sort of back! (RL does get in the way of incredibly lengthy essays about fictional TV shows!) NO APOLOGIES NECESSARY!! I am just so happy I get to read all these excellent thoughts, analyses, and feelings you have! (and that we clearly share lol, including the sheer amusement of your writing!). I really want to write more at the mo but my hands are doing that weird old lady thing where you can see the veins popping out and it makes me v uncomfortable to look at. Especially since I have little baby hands. I hate it.
Ok, I’m now kneeling on the floor and the computer is on the kitchen island. This is better. I cannot see the top of my hands.
SO. Where was I? OW. my kneeeessss. This is a bad idea.
I’m so lost. Fic question. right. It’s post-S2. Like… quite post-S2. I didn’t even deal with HOW or WHY June is back in the Waterford’s house tbh cos I can’t be bothered to sort that out. (Thanks, show.) So, it just assumes that for some reason, she’s back. Which, if the BTS pics/video is to be believed, that’s the case anyway.
Fangirls (and boys ofc) ruin so much for me. Even if I like the same thing initially. Ugh. Then sometimes they’ll annoy me so much that I end up liking the complete opposite of what they like. Dunno why.
No worries about Westworld! It’s a reasonable assumption! Please don’t apologise, my friend. I do agree that Thandie was very good in S1. IIRC, her character was my fav (other than Clementine lol). Yvonne S2 was just next level shit to me. Like, what you’re saying makes me wanna give S2 WW another shot but when shows get overcomplicated, they’re not much fun anymore when I’m like “BUT WHAT IS HAPPENING LOL”.
>> “There were times I’ve been blocked by fandom people (with beautiful edits) that I NEVER interacted with (except for maybe reblogging from each other)”
EXACT SAME. It was actually in THT fandom most recently lol. Like, I reblogged one of their pretty edits once. Ever. I didn’t even say anything snarky or bitchy or rude in tags. I don’t think I added any commentary at all. Next thing I know? BLOCKED. Never interacted with them in any way whatsoever. (Typical N/J fangirl lol.) It’s the strangest behaviour and it’s that kind of thing that sours me towards sects of fangirls, and sometimes even the characters they like. Maybe that’s just petty but I think it actually just reinforces pre-existing feelings I had towards the character or pairing.) The only blogs I block are ones that are gross, RP, or spam. (RP blogs is a long history of them stealing and spamming and adding awful commentary to my posts way back in the day, so I just… block em. lol.)
>> “they’d block me, bc of an uploaded gifset for a canon pairing (which wasn’t to their taste apparently) that was tagged as #[series]edit (although the ship!portmanteau was right there, too, so that people could easily block it). I remember being like: “Okay. Good for you, anon!” LOL.”
Oh. My… WHAT. There’s a very odd sense of entitlement here that seems so peculiar to me. Like, that’s what the blacklisting feature is for? I’ve put every version of my most despised pairings, characters, etc. and it works? Very rarely does it miss on. I guess we’re just dramaphobic, mature old fandom farts. Like, “Kids, let me sit you down and tell you about this site before you could block things. Before even XKit was invented…” Not to mention every other website ever lol.
HOLY GROSS… I just got up and a centipede fell off me!! WHYYYYYY. THIS IS WHY I DON’T SIT ON THE FLOOR. (we live near the beach/woods so we get lots of bugs no matter how clean we are…) no more painful kneeling for me i guess…
OKAY. Spoilers. It’s not much but other than the June in Martha costume (which was shown in the teaser Superbowl trailer anyway by now)… there were set pics of Emily, Sylvia, Nicole, and Luke all happy and smiling. IIRC. I can’t find the post anymore. So it may not have been in character. But I dunno… it all seems… too easy? Like, I’m glad Emily is safe but omg. She’d better not be all hunky dory “I stabbed a lady and threw her down the stairs, murdered another, and ran a dude over with a stolen car, but now I’m Canada, I’m all healed!” (Not including the heart attack/crotch kicking here cos that was fair play to Emily. She deserved that.) Like, honestly, as much part of me was like YESSSS at all of those, still… that’s grievous bodily harm with intent to kill, flat out murder, and vehicular manslaughter. For Emily to do those things, you don’t do those crimes without being really broken and damaged. And… yeah. That doesn’t magically disappear when you hop over a border.

Sorry lmao I don't rly know which fandoms you're in outside of bioware. So yeah, 9, 20, 27 for bioware :)
Happy to do! Again, sorry for the delayed reply. I usually try to answer any asks a lot earlier than this.
Please note that these are just my opinions on the matter and I don’t think less of anyone who believes something different. We’re all entitled to our opinion on these sorts of subjects
BioWare Answers
I will attempt to answer these questions for both DA and ME since those are the two BioWare fandoms I am familiar with, however this doesn’t guarantee an answer for both.
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
Starting right for the jugular, huh? I want to stress again just because I don’t like these characters doesn’t mean I disrespect anyone who does like/love them. Ok.... so.... DA first I guess. The only person I really couldn’t get along with in the series was Sera. I tried, I really did. Between the trailers and descriptions I was super excited for this crazy Robin Hood character. Meeting her for the first time was a kind of big letdown. While I agree with most of her Red Jenny philosophies, she’s too “lol I so random XD” for me. Also playing as a Lavellan didn’t start me off on a great foot with her. For ME I’d have to say Liara. Part of this is personal experience and the other part is her character development. Long story short on the personal side, Liara ninjamanced me in ME1 and kind of annoyed me with her being upset over our ‘break up’ when I never romanced her in the first place (I rejected her when she visited the cabin.) For the character development I was extremely disappointed that she went from the sweet, curious archaeologist to the Shadow Broker. I am not a fan of the change. That’s not to say I wanted Liara to stay innocent or naive or anything, but I loved that dork aspect of her, constantly inquiring about things because of her desire to learn. Also BioWare kind of SUPER pushed her in the first and third games, which sent her from neutral to dislike territory.
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
Oh god I don’t know!!! I love pretty much anything to do with Cole, Krem, and Merrill. Their respective ships are such pureness because they have got to be the most cinnamon roll characters. They bring light wherever they go. For ME maybe Tali? Nothing really calls out to me with that series.
27. Least shippable character?
For the BioWare fandom I don’t really have any squick ships or NoTPS off the top of my head. I’m really careful about who I follow and what content I consume from BioWare fans on here. I’m a bit of a dodo when it comes to shipping things I haven’t seen before, and since I haven’t really seen any one person who sets me off in a relationship I can’t think of a character. Sorry!
Want to ask me questions about a particular fandom??? Send me some numbers and a fandom and you can get my salty opinion on these salty questions!

MTVS Epic Rewatch #158
 VM 3x05 President Evil
Stray thoughts
1) This episode is a huge disappointment, and I’ll tell you why: the episode’s title is totally misleading. Like, I was 100% expecting zombies? Zombie presidents, more precisely. Rob Thomas, you sit on a throne of lies.
2) I love how all the students in Landry’s class groan when Tim announces he’s taking over the class for the day. It’s a small character moment, one that definitely goes unnoticed the first time watching the show and which acquires meaning in hindsight, once you really know who Tim actually is and what he did. The fact that the students groan at the fact that they’re stuck with him is very telling of what kind of person he is. Like, I don’t know about you, but if I were stuck with the TA for the day I’d be glad because it would mean a much more chill class and not that much work, you know? In this case, however, the students’ reaction clearly shows that Tim was way worse than the head professor, and he was merely the TA. So we can draw a lot of conclusions about his personality traits, which are coherent with his actions and with his ultimate downfall. He’s definitely a person who takes his job way too seriously in a way that usually makes things worse for everyone involved. He’s power-hungry and revels in having the tiniest bit of power and authority and takes it way too far. He wants to climb up the career ladder, he definitely has a disproportionate sense of entitlement and he craves recognition. That’s why he feels the need to brag when he commits what he thinks is the perfect crime, which leads to Veronica realizing what he’d done. This is why Rob Thomas is such a good writer, you know? He does a pretty similar thing with Mercer in this same episode: a small yet telling character moment, something that can be so easily overlooked because it seems so irrelevant and it doesn’t have “SIGNIFICANT CHARACTER MOMENT” written all over it but once all the mysteries are revealed that tiny moment makes so much sense. It’s a pretty good lesson in writing, if you ask me. (yes, I’m aware nobody asked me or cares.)
3) This moment always makes me feel a bit uncomfortable?
Tumblr media
It’s kind of diminishing to use Eli as a case study, especially because she’s so clinical when she’s describing his life? Like, he’s an actual person and he’s standing right there and you’re talking about him as if he were this abstract thing, like a statistic or something? And also, he’s your friend? So, if you’ve come to any conclusions regarding the “socioeconomic conditions that lead preteens into a life of crime”, maybe talk them over with him over coffee or something? And yes, I am aware that Weevil willingly agreed to participate in this show-and-tell, but it still feels like she’s taking advantage of him? Which, granted, is pretty in character for Veronica, but it still feels so crappy of her to do this.
4) Look who’s here!
Tumblr media
5) Also, this moment:
WEEVIL: I'm trying. I really am. But truth? I- Yeah, I miss it. I miss having cash in my pocket. I miss the thrill.
Cut to Veronica’s reaction:
Tumblr media
Veronica shakes her head in an “Oh, Weevil...” kind of way, and smiles. She seems to be entertained by and kind of proud of his statement, yet the first time she has the chance, she will use this confession against him...
6) Then, there’s this exchange:
WEEVIL: Hey, word to the wise. You got a boyfriend? Use the short leash. VERONICA: As hard as this may be to believe, the women of Hearst aren't close to the top of my worries about Logan. WEEVIL: Wait, wait, wait. What? You're dating Logan again? After the way he treated Lilly? VERONICA: This is news? Man, the prison grapevine blows.
On the one hand, it seems kind of odd that after finding out who Lily’s killer was Weevil still believes that the person harming her was Logan instead of Aaron. I don’t really know if Lily had fed him lies about Logan - which could’ve totally happened, if you ask me - or if she had blamed Logan for bruises that Aaron was responsible for just because she didn’t want to reveal she was sleeping with someone else other than Logan and Weevil. Either way, Weevil should’ve started questioning everything Lily had told him after finding out about her affair with Aaron, you know? On the other hand, it kind of makes sense that he wouldn’t question the things Lily had told him. We know he was pretty much head over heels in love with her, and just like Veronica, he had put her on a pedestal. And I think he couldn’t or wouldn’t reconcile that idolized image he had of her with the reality (pretty much like Veronica, if you ask me.) Lily was, after all, a secretive and manipulative girl.
Then, there’s Veronica’s reaction to his question. She doesn’t bat an eyelid when he makes reference to Logan having treated Lily badly. In fact, she doesn’t even acknowledge that part of the question. But more importantly, she doesn’t set him straight? Which begs the question, why wouldn’t she want Weevil to know that Logan didn’t treat Lily badly? Why didn’t she tell him that it was pretty much the other way around?
Food for thought, I guess.
7) Veronica looks extra cute in this outfit, love it.
Tumblr media
8) Ok, this is the small yet significant Mercer moment I was talking about...
JIMMY CARTER: You! Give me the cashbox? It's in the drawer behind you. Now! The combination! MERCER: You seem highly intelligent and motivated. Figure it out. JIMMY CARTER: The combination or you're gonna have to find someone new to deal the blackjack, man. (Carter was pointing the gun at the boy and then he slapped him harshly.)
Tumblr media
First of all, there’s the costume. I mean, could there be a more fitting costume for Mercer than A Clockwork Orange’s Alex de Large? Seriously! Then, there’s his defiant attitude in a highly dangerous situation. He’s not used to being told what to do, it’s always him ordering people around and he really really wants to tell Jimmy Carter to fuck off. Even when the thief points the gun at the other boy and smacks him around, Mercer still takes his sweet time before doing what he was told. A normal person would probably comply immediately when someone’s life is at risk, you know? Not Mercer. There’s an utter disregard for other people’s wellbeing. He doesn’t really care, and it’s almost like he has to force himself to act unnaturally and pretend like he gives a damn if anyone in that room lives or dies. Kudos again to Rob’s writing.
9)
Tumblr media
This is not a threat nor a promise. It’s a fact. There is absolutely no doubt that Veronica will get that necklace back and that she will make this dude pay.  I love how as he’s taking the necklace she’s already anticipating her sweet revenge and she can’t help but smile because she knows she will do everything in her power to crush him. Because making justice is not enough for Veronica, she has to have some payback as well...
10) It’s The Dude!!
Tumblr media
11) Okay, I’ve just noticed this parallel with the movie...
VERONICA: Where were you? LOGAN: I was in class, like we talked about. Less gambling, more learning. That was right after you said "jump" and I asked "how high?"
Tumblr media
12) Boy, was this awkward...
Tumblr media
And like, you’ve just used the boy to get a good grade, you’ve seen how hard he’s working to stay on the right track, and now you’re using his past against him to blame him for something you really don’t know he’s guilty of. Like, she made a lot of assumptions here, and she thought she had solved the case only based on a few conversations with Weevil, she hadn’t done any sleuthing whatsoever that could paint him as a suspect yet. And just like that, she was yet another person that assumed he couldn’t be anything but a thief because of his past. And if everyone assumes the worst of you, even your closest friends, no matter how hard you try, you might as well prove them right you know?
She even made fun of the place he was living in (” Hope you don't mind. One of the cockroaches let me in.”) Like, how crappy is that?
13) And then...
WEEVIL: It's a wonder you don't have more friends.
She has the nerve to look affronted by this, but she has not witty comeback because she knows he’s right. He truly is.
Tumblr media
14) Ugh this moment...
Tumblr media
WEEVIL: Are you lining up your next girlfriend? Hmm?
Tumblr media
Logan is visibly uncomfortable, as he should be, and he’s speechless because he knows he’s been caught. There’s no doubt in my mind that Logan was flirting with that girl and giving her his number. I don’t know if he took things any further, though I highly doubt it. Either way, what’s certain is that the writers wanted us and Veronica to doubt him. In that sense, mission accomplished. Logan’s behavior was dubious at best. But like, it’s completely out of character? We’ve seen Logan single, and we’ve seen Logan in a relationship, and while he may have other flaws when he’s someone’s boyfriend, he was never a cheater. He is, in fact, loyal to a fault. Especially when it comes to Veronica. And how could the same people who wrote loving, loyal Logan write him in this way now? Even if it was done to set up their breakup or whatever, that’s just not who he is. That’s not who you’ve shown us he is. The thing is, they could’ve written distrustful, paranoid Veronica without making us believe she could be right. In fact, it’s more interesting to see her spiral out of control when we know she’s wrong. Because, let’s be real, Veronica can make herself believe anything without having evidence to prove it, especially when it comes to distrusting Logan...
15) I like this moment...
VERONICA: So, when I look into this, and I will look into this, I'm gonna find out you didn't order that pizza? WEEVIL: Or you could just save yourself the trouble and take my word for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
16) The boy fangirling over meeting Veronica is basically every marshmallow ever.
VERONICA: Hi, I'm looking for the manager. He or she around? DANNY: You're Veronica Mars. VERONICA: And you're… Danny. DANNY: Rossow. Yeah, I am. Cool. You went to my school last year. I go to Neptune High. VERONICA: Lucky you. DANNY: You remember when those bikers taped that guy up to the flagpole and you just walked up there and cut him down? VERONICA: Yeah. Listen- DANNY: Remember when you stopped those guys from blowing up the school? VERONICA: No one was gonna blow up the school. So, what I was going to- DANNY: On the last day, I really wanted you to sign my yearbook.
And he’s super into it when Veronica suggests he should help her out to solve the case...
Tumblr media
He was really sweet, okay? And although she was admittedly not overly friendly at the beginning, she was kind of impressed and delighted with his impression of his boss. And now I kind of wish he would’ve become a recurring character. The fanboy who’s also very helpful.
17) Okay, but let’s be real: this girl was a mini-Veronica... (because - spoiler alert - Veronica is kind of an asshole...)
VERONICA: Hi. Any idea how this gum got from your mouth to that chair?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
18) Keith has no right to lecture Veronica when she’s sassy with authority figures, right? I mean...
SANCHEZ: You presented yourself as an Adrian Monk... A Los Angeles County Building Inspector? And I believe that's your cell phone number written on it? KEITH: And? SANCHEZ: Sir, the apartment complex manager that you handed that to says you ordered him to let you into the apartment of a one Steven Batando. KEITH: Ordered? Asked politely, maybe.
Tumblr media
Ok, so he broke the law, he was caught, and he mocks those who caught him? Like father, like daughter.
19)
LAMB: Batando's been missing for fifty-two hours. Guess what, Keith? You're the leading suspect in his disappearance.
Tumblr media
Not so much with the jokey-jokes now, eh Keith?
20) Okay, I know I didn´t mention anything about the case Keith was working on, but it’s all sorts of creepy and wrong? So, the dean’s stepson has bone cancer and he hires Keith to track the kid’s deadbeat dad because he’s a match for the bone marrow transplant. They trick the guy into a fake audition so that the dean and his wife can gang up on him and convince him to donate his bone marrow to his son. It was all already quite gray at this point. When he doesn’t agree to do it, they kidnap him, take him to Mexico and have him have surgery on and his bone marrow taken... Like, I get it, your kid is dying, but not only is this wrong but also illegal? And then, the writers sort of want us to think the dean and his wife weren’t really wrong because they could buy the guy off with a car? So, like, that makes him the villain then? Yeah, NO.
21)
JENNY: Our stage is covered in Pam. VERONICA: Who's Pam? ORGON: Pam is a cooking spray. We can't walk out there without falling on our asses. We had the temerity to schedule our opening night on the same weekend as their short film festival. VERONICA: Maybe this is their way of saying break a leg.
Tumblr media
22) And look who’s here... hey, Max!
Tumblr media
Also: bad Wallace. Bad, bad Wallace.
23) Okay, not only did Wallace cheat, but he wasn’t very good at it? I mean, obviously, he was caught. But also, rule number one of cheating: DO NOT HAND IN YOUR EXAM EARLY.
Tumblr media
Especially not when you’ve been getting crappy grades in the class...
24) See what I mean? She is not content with just serving justice, she has to completely humiliate the dude. Which, okay, serves him right on account of being a criminal and all.
Tumblr media
25) This moment is so satisfying, though:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the music on this show is always so spot on. I love how Johnny Cash’s “Busted” plays over the montage of Veronica getting the necklace back, Wallace being summoned by his professor and Weevil being released from jail.
26) ICONIC
