MDZS Disco Elysium AU part 1 (part 2 - part 3)
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#disco elysium#MDZS Disco Elysium AU#So sad I didn't manage to get this comic out on the 15th (pd-mdzs's 8 month anniversary and DE's 4th year anniversary) but I'm here *now*#I have a very extensive and detailed MDZS Disco Elysium AU that I am Not Normal About.#I've seen a few other people point out the potential in a crossover (true) but they make the mistake in having it be set in 51!#A true crossover would take place closer to The Antecentennial Revolution!#Disco Elysium did not go that hard on its cool lore for people to only make surface level crossovers!!!#One day I'll write the fic or post my notes. I don't know who would read it but it tickles *my* brain and that's enough.#No spoilers for DE (here or in comments (please)) but please consider....Magpie Wei Wuxian B*) On his way to be an innocent.#I do think there is a good chance a chunk of the MDZS readership would enjoy DE but...it's also not a game I easily recommend#It's more of an experience you have to marinate over. It's dark in ways that are off putting to some people.#It makes you feel like a very bad person all the time. It gets extremely personal if you allow yourself to be honest in your answers#and it's also the game that saved my life. My life was truly forever changed after playing disco elysium.#If I recommend it to people it's a badge of the trust I have in you to appreciate something dear to me B'*)#If you decide to play: PLEASE go in as blind as possible. You will regret spoiling yourself.#edit: this is based on real disco elysium dialogue. HDB has many canon kinks but this is not one of them

I’m actually disappointed Ganondorf nuke explosion death had no consequences on the land. A bomb just exploded in a giant beam of light. And nothing happened? No mountain cracked, not a single tree destroyed, no land was burned? At least give us a crater. An honorary Ganon crater, just for him. Forever imbedded into the earth
I HATE THAT THEY EXPLODED HIM FOR SO MANY REASONS-
I feel like exploding Ganondorf was such a hollow way to end his life. Apart from my issues around the fact that this nullifies everything we've learned about draconification after the game spent a couple of cutscenes reinforcing the permanency and immortality factor of the act, it just felt really annoying that it didn't apply to either Zelda or Ganondorf who are the main dragons of this story. (And before someone comes at me with the "oh what if dragons are immortal like lobsters are where they only die when they are killed" well, okay, then why spend so much time telling me, in several cutscenes, that dragons lose themselves and are immortal and it cannot be reversed? When it's emphasized that much the purpose is usually to reinforce that becoming a dragon is really *really* a permanent change, not that by the power of love and friendship and the gods hate Ganondorf that much that none of those rules apply)
Then, yeah! As you said! Ganondorf's explosion was of nuclear proportions! Fine, Link and Zelda are special and being right in the vicinity didn't vaporize them somehow (I guess another power of Rauru and Sonia is to pull Link into some pocket dimension to initiate their changing of Zelda back to herself or something), but the rest of Hyrule? The light from that explosion should cause eye damage in like half the population. There should be a huge crater or at least the land around him burned out of all greenery and living beings (which would at least leave a permanent legacy of what Ganondorf had intended to do). I guess we never get to really see Hyrule post-game anyways, maybe they would consider these things if we did (I highly doubt it because Hyrule's a magical place where specifically when the king of demons explodes in death Hyrule's blessed light prevents the land and its people from suffering any consequences).
(Okay fine change Zelda back to herself but also, she doesn't remember *anything* from being a dragon? Man these characters really go through everything with no consequences suffered at all! You blame Ganondorf for being mad?)
And finally, my problem really with it is how Ganondorf's death is sort of treated like...well like he was just in the way instead of a meaningful part of the story. In OoT, when you first "kill" him, Zelda acknowledges him in a show of pity, implying that he had reached a point that he just could not be saved from himself. When he is sealed away, you can see in his eyes and his face how Zelda's words about his inability to properly control his power really shows itself, having gone mad and swearing vengeance on their descendants. In Wind Waker, his final words are "The wind is blowing", perhaps alluding to what he had said previously, that the only winds he had ever felt were the winds of death, and here he is feeling it once more in death, having truly lost everything in that moment. In Twilight Princess, Ganondorf dies on his feet, the scene silent as Link and Zelda watch, as Zant cracks his neck, as Zelda bows her head once he closes his eyes. You don't have to *like * Ganondorf, but his deaths and his sealing left an impact on the player, mirroring the message and themes of the game. This just felt like "well, let's just get him out of the way quickly so we can move on to focus on Link and Zelda reuniting" which, look, I think that final fall where you dive for Zelda is epic, it gets me in the feels ngl. However, it just like, what does it say about the antagonist? What did he die for? Is he that callous and meaningless of a character that we just explode him and never acknowledge him again? That is a pretty painful way to die isn't it? I don't have all the words to convey my feelings but it just feels like, for a game that markets itself as the one that really integrates Ganondorf as a character and "solidifies his character" that it handled his death so poorly. He was as much as a whisper of a legend that he was when Link and Zelda went into the depths of Hyrule Castle by the end of the game and that just doesn't sit well with me.

I feel like Forever will be the one to finally discover and intervene in regards to the soul vultures - and it’s not going to end well for him or BadBoyHalo when he does.
Q!Forever is so worried about Q!Bad, has expressed to multiple people that he knows how fragile he is. And I think many overlook that he told Bad that he remembered everything that happened while he was drugged. A passenger in his own body.
Meaning he knows what he said to Bad, that he likely remembers proposing - and he remembers the exact state Bad was in at the time. His language, his words, the tired stoop and how Bad was collapsing in on himself. Bad is coping just as badly as he is, on the opposite side of the pendulum’s swing.
He’s determined to give him a flower every day to cheer him up (no roses, yet), but he knows it’s not enough, he’s watching his friend fade away before his eyes and he’s scared. The affirmation room was a really wonderful gift, and I think it helped - emotionally. But it too is not enough on its own, a temporary harbour during stormy seas.
Action is what will truly bring change over words for these two - after all, actions are what have cause trust to waver, compared to words and prank wars and lies told with a straight face that both parties know are lies.
In addition, out of game, Forever (the CC) is essentially going to be offline for most of next month due to gatherings, conventions and traveling. so getting his character taken out of play for a bit in a manner that doesn’t directly involve the Federation this time seems likely - retreading the same ground is no fun. And Forever has also expressed excitement over Bad’s plans for Bad’s own character’s arc. They’re a pair of cheeky enablers, and they both love their complicated cat’s cradle tangle of a relationship that they’ve got going on - they wouldn’t indulge so fully if they didn’t. The CCs trust each other to tell a good story together, and I think that’s neat.
Which is why I think in trying to save Q!Bad from himself, Q!Forever is going to take a blow not intended for him. An action with a consequence neither foresee. Coupled with the morals balancing act Bad’s got going on with Baghera, I think the fallout of these respective efforts is going to be a shock to the BadBoyHalo core that finishes what his Skeppy-confided doubts started.
Or maybe it won’t. Bad is so unpredictable.
But so is Forever. And Forever considers Bad his family. That’s a powerful force - one Bad is going to underestimate, because I don’t think he’s had many people in his life willing to go that sort of distance for him.
I have a feeling that today’s streams are going to be interesting.
(Apparently first thing when I wake up and last thing before I sleep is when my brain goes off on meta tangents. Go figure!)

I remember you criticizing Felix for his C support with Dedue, and I disagreed with you because when I saw videos from it on YouTube, I mainly saw the part of how Dedue was fine with killing elderly and children if Dimitri ordered it.
But I got the game recently (currently playing Blue Lions) and while I still think Felix was right to be pissed for Dedue saying he would be fine killing innocents, Felix also called him dog first, not even after asking him why he is being loyal, literally it's the first thing he call him, which is not okay 😭.
Also, I doubt Felix doesn't know why Dedue is loyal to Dimitri, though it may be the game who screwed up on that, Dimitri started calling Dimitri "boar" because of the western rebellion, however, Dedue had been with Dimitri for two years already when the rebellion happened, so Felix would already have known, before his falling out with Dimitri, that Dimitri saved Dedue's life, so his hostility to Dedue for being loyal to Dimitri (that specifically, not the killing innocents) is really shitty.
TLDR, this "ask" is more of a confession of fuck-up and apologies over it.
Honestly, I understand Felix's bitterness, but man, he's much more appreciable when he's not interacting with his fellow Blue Lions (except Annette, he's never a dick with her)
oh my gosh thank you
tbh i think i deleted that post because I got scared of potential discourse lol
I truly love Felix, he's one of my favorite characters because of how he grows up and changes from start to finish. I think part of why he felt so empty in three hopes was because we sped through his arc. The game assumed that everyone already played three houses and didn't have/want to rehash the same arc as last time but.... where's my progression... my growth... 🥺 what do you mean he's just mature now. Where's his Zuko redemption arc??
And yes, I understand his anger and grief and frustration. Losing your brother and seeing your best friend murder a guy at 15 is traumatic, it makes sense why he's coping the way he is. But his anger doesn't excuse him being racist T_T Felix is allowed to be critical or resent Dedue, I think he see Dedue as enabling Dimitri's "boar side." Which is a valid concern, just... there was no need to call Dedue a dog.
But like Ingrid, everyone has shitty takes at 17 it should not define you forever. Yes, Felix (and Ingrid) has some hurtful and ignorant shit as a teenager but who hasn't. What matters is that they grow from that and do better.

Sir Daniel Fortesque (Redesign / Reimagination " Reincarnation " AU)
Sir Daniel Fortesque, The Hero of Gallowmere, was known to be a legend for many centuries... But legends are often known to change details throughout the sands of time.
Daniel Fortesque, or simply referred to as " Dan " by his friends, was once a bard who would sing songs about his heroic feats, And he had told many stories about his achievements to the nobles for years. In truth, however... he did not do any of those daring adventures, nor did he have slain dragons. He is secretly a coward who is easily scared and that he doesn't have the skills to fight. The reason behind his boastful stories for he truly loved the attention and that he truly desired to be a hero, like the ones in the story books he had read as a child. Eventually, His fantastical stories would reach the King of Gallowmere and to be summoned by him. He was by all means terrified of what he gotten himself into and but he doubled down his lies and tells fantasy tales to King Peregin. The king had enjoyed the stories so much that he made him a knight and appointed him head of the Royal Battalion, which made Sir Daniel faint from the shock of being given such a high position. Thankfully, it was just an honorable post since the Kingdom of Gallowmere had never been into war for many centuries, and peace had thrived within the land of Gallowmere, so Sir Daniel mostly rearranged the castle guards and played croquet with the king but also had fallen in love with the astronomer's daughter which he vowed to marry her.
Sadly, that peace would not last forever when Zarok had returned. He was once a court magician who had performed his magic tricks for the King but was banished to exile when the king discovered that he started to tamper with dark magic and had learned the art of necromancy, Zarok had hated the kingdom's simple and peaceful ways that he had planned to unleash an undead army to take over Gallowmere. Zarok would declare war on Gallowmere, and it was up to Sir Daniel Fortesque to lead an army and to slay the tyrannical wizard. He was downright terrified, and he badly wanted no part of it, yet he refused to disappoint his king and reveal his lies. Sir Dan hoped that he would miraculously defeat Zarok and save Gallowmere like in the fairytale books, so he charged headfirst into battle with his army following him behind. Sadly, his life would come to a pitiful end when he was shot right through the eye by an arrow, and his army had to fight without him. The army had successfully defeated Zarok's army and saved Gallowmere but at a high price. None of the army had survived, and the evil sorcerer had escaped without a trace.
King Peregin was understandably disappointed by Sir Dan's failure to destroy the sorcerer, but he wanted to give hope to his people. Thus, He declared that Sir Daniel Fortesque had successfully defeated the undead army and slain Zarok before succumbing to his mortal wounds. Fortesque went down in history as the Hero of Gallowmere and songs are still sung that he spearheaded the charge deep into the accursed multitude and how demons fell before him like wheat before the scythe, the Kingdom were at peace once again and it seemed to last for hundreds of years. Until the sorcerer had returned to once again take over Gallowmere and raise his army of the dead, which he would mistakenly resurrected Sir Daniel Fortesque. He was gifted with a second chance of saving Gallowmere and living up to the legend, a second chance that he thought would never come.
----------------------------------------------------
Heyo! This is my first time doing a Reimagination on a piece of media I love and believes it deserves better. ^^
MediEvil is a very underrated video game series, and I am very fixated on Sir Daniel Fortesque and the neat Tim Burton like style it has. I love the first game and that I find the story pretty interesting, but the sequel isn't really good, for I have a lot of issues with the story and characters. I think they could have done so much better with MediEvil 2 and also the Reimagination MediEvil, eh it is somewhat interesting, but I think it had estrayed too far from the og game. The 2019 remake is pretty good, and I liked it the updated graphics and the cutscenes. However, the cursed official comicbook " Fate's Arrow " is what I truly hate because it is honestly worthless and that they butchered Dan's backstory and I hate that it involves time traveling for I think MediEvil shouldn't be involved with.
So yeah, I sincerely love MediEvil and that I want to give it my own take on the series by rewriting MediEvil 2 and possibly the comic book for it desperately needs an makeover. But yes, I'll be doing my own Reimagination on the series and to give it my own headcanons and ideas, but first I'll be doing the redesign on Sir Daniel Fortesque and rewriting his past life since I really disliked that they made his past self in the comic an irredeemable asshole and I refuse to accept that awful human design of him. And possibly with the other characters in the series like Zarok or the Heroes, who knows.
I will try to make the Reimagination to be faithful to the OG series and be as respectful to the characters, also to expect some OCs I would make for it ;)

Okay I saw your fic behind the scenes ask game and I MUST know behind the scenes info for "So A Crazy Thing Happened At The Terra Bella Lodge"
Oh my GOSH I'm so excited to tell you all of it!!!!
First, obligatory link to said fic in case someone would like to read it! (But be warned-- I spoil everything below)
A couple of fun facts:
I can't remember for the life of me what exactly spurred this idea, but it's heavily influenced by Leverage and some of the more bottle-like episodes they've done. Very heist-y origins! Although I wish I was better at writing heists, because a Brooklyn 99/The Rookie heist would be the crossover fic of the century.
I spent roughly 15 entire hours watching episodes of Brooklyn 99 and clips of Jake and Amy so I could get their voices in my head, since I'd been on a Rookie spree and all I was hearing was Tim and Lucy, and while they're similar in some ways I needed to remember how to write Peraltiago! Pretty sure I've watched every single b99 clip that exists on Youtube
The inspiration for the Terra Bella Mountain Lodge is actually a real place!! It's a wedding venue in Estes Park, CO called the Della Terra Mountain Chateau. I've sadly never been there but it looked GORGEOUS, and if I ever get married, it'll be on my top 5 venue options for sure
I tossed around the idea of whether or not to have Jake and Amy's kids there with them, since it's kind of a romantic spot, but I opted for my own enjoyment of getting to write the kids instead of being realistic and keeping them in New York with Jake's mom or something
I listened to basically nothing except this chenford playlist I made, the whole time. music on repeat is very effective for my writing brain :)))
I had a couple deleted scenes where Jake and Amy solve the whole case from the minivan, then Tim goes and busts Lucy out by fistfighting 3 guards at once in a superhuman throwdown brawl, but I went back and added those scenes where Lucy saves herself like the queen she is since she was feeling a little too Damsel-in-Distress and not enough Badass Officer (Detective) Chen, and I'm SO glad I did. It's a better story for the grandkids ;)
Also, in previous drafts Raymond Reeves WAS the villain. I was planning him as the thief who wanted to steal some diamonds or something, but it just wasn't gelling with my brain. I think I rewrote all the scenes with him and Marcia about 27 times before I was happy with it.
SPEAKING OF THAT DUDE!!! This is one of my favorite BTS tidbits :))) Raymond Reeves' backstory is that he has about 10 aliases that he uses and for ALL of them, the initials are S.K. -- Sanford Kain, Silas Kearney . . . Because S.K. stands for Serial Killer. He was so guilty about what he did to his brother-in-law, that he purposefully branded himself forever, subconsciously hoping someone would put the pieces together and he'd finally be arrested and punished for his crime.
Vesa Wescott was always going to be in on the crime from the beginning, I just didn't decide exactly how until Ronan Reeves came into the picture :)
This is very easily the first fic I've fully drafted out from beginning to end, and it STILL changed along the way!
I threw around the idea of Lucy going into preterm labor during the snowstorm, but figured that was kind of cliche and scary and unnecessary, and I'd rather have her working the case with Jake and Amy than anything else.
Oh, and Tim absolutely breaks his no-Disneyland rule for the Peraltiago fam :))) But given that I've never been to Disneyland and have no idea what it's like, I don't feel qualified to write that fic . . . Maybe someday!!
So yeah, there you have it!! I hope you enjoyed this episode of behind the fic with yours truly 😄
[ask me about a fic!]

real important question here: who do you think that is the best husband material from the game? and pls rate them from best to worst-
rating the boys as husbands
a great way to wrap up my married life series! i kinda dived more into the cons of marriage in this, stuff i didn't get into in the original posts. i'd love to hear what y'all think about this, how you'd rate them, etc. that being said, these are all my opinion, based on my own perception and standards as to what qualities a life partner should have
married life hcs: part 1 | part 2 | part 3
genre: other, angst if you squint
cw: first draft and unedited rambling
Lucia
❧ he's a great husband; not much changes in your relationship so it's all still very fun and youthful and full of spark
❧ he pulls his weight around the house and makes sure to support you always
❧ since he's the breadwinner, you aren't required to work in order to keep y'all afloat, so if you aspire to be a house spouse, this one is for you!
❧ he has his moments where he doesn't take things as seriously as he should, he likes to brush things off and look on the bright side as often as he can. however, he knows very well when to stop and take things seriously, which saves you from a lot of intense arguments
❧ also, because of his work, he gets incredibly busy and there are times where you see very little of him and it can get stressful, especially once the two of you get so used to seeing each other all day, every day. the stress of being the new king also piles up on him, and every now and then he really struggles with managing it, and he can end up snapping at you or shutting you out for a bit
❧ overall rating: 9/10
Levy
❧ y'all have a very quiet marriage and life together- which absolutely isn't a bad thing! it'a all just very lowkey, but the love is always there
❧ and the life and home you two share is so full of domesticity and comfort, it truly is a safe space for the both of you
❧ you both have to work to support yourselves, which paired with the fact that he's not extremely helpful in terms of housework is,, not the best thing ever. don't get me wrong, he tries his hardest, but growing up having most things done for him is a deeply rooted habit of his
❧ you also have to keep in mind his attitude; levy is a very stubborn man, and he's been known to go behind loved ones' backs to get his way. communication and patience are musts in your marriage with him
❧ when arguments do happen, expect the silent treatment and cold shoulder, but by the end of the night, he will always come back to you and neither of you will go to sleep before talking things out
❧ he might take you for granted every now and then, but his love, appreciation, and admiration for you is eternal and will keep him tethered to you forever
❧ overall rating: 7/10
Mefy
❧ you love him, and he loves you. that's something that you have to remind yourself of a lot.
❧ right off the bat you have the secrecy about what he does for work; you have essentially no idea about his life outside of your shared home, and you often find yourself wondering, "who is my husband when i'm not around?"
❧ similar to levy, he doesn't do much around the house, and he doesn't seem to be too apologetic about it. this especially sucks considering that you have a job too. you can't stay home to take care of things, so you have to squeeze in time after work to meal prep and clean the house
❧ a lot of the time, you just feel like your marriage was more of a mutual agreement than a statement of your romance and devotion
❧ if you can set aside his secrecy, deceptiveness, and meanness, he's very sweet and considerate of you and your relationship. he sets aside his own opinions, and pays attention to the things you care about, keeping them in mind to bring up at a later date
❧ he leaves you wondering a lot of things, which can cast shadows of doubt in your mind, but you know he's faithful and will always return to you. that trust and confidence is one of the biggest things keeping your marriage afloat
❧ overall rating: 4/10
Oswald
❧ trying my best to set aside my own biases for this one-
❧ it's very hard to find a man more devoted to you than oswald. he takes his vows very seriously, and dedicates the rest of his life to act as your servant not literally of course but ya know. anything he can do to make sure you live a safe, comfortable, and secure life, he's doing
❧ he really tries his hardest to help around the house with cooking and cleaning, but his strength really lies in the latter. it's very endearing tho, seeing him try his best and looking to you with a sparkle in his eyes, eager to please
❧ but then you have to keep in mind his other job; assuming that he continues working for lucia and kaim, and until there is a complete cure for his condition, he will likely continue to be sent on missions. how long he's gone for, you never know, and the only solace you get is his promise to return home to you
❧ and then you have the effects of his condition. he tries to keep you at a distance from him when he goes on a rampage, but things can happen. he's hurt you once before, and it would absolutely eat him up if that ever happened again. there are risks, but in the end, it's an illness and support from the one he loves most is what keeps him together
❧ overall rating: 9/10
Kaim
❧ he's dedicated his life to servitude; to him, marriage is just an extension of that
❧ he wouldn't just marry you for the heck of it tho, he really loves you and is thoroughly devoted to you, and it shows with how gentle he treats you, and how he pampers you in his own special way
❧ you know that being married to him ensures that you'll be well taken care of and secure in your way of life
❧ but it's hard for him to keep home and work separate, and it can sometimes seem as if he's more your boss or overseer than your husband. he takes charge of a lot of things at home, has specific expectations, and instructs you on things to do a lot
❧ it's rare for him to just relax and be with you, as his life is basically his work. the infrequent, sacred time you have to yourselves is often right before bed, unwinding together and relishing in each other's closeness, which appears to be all he needs
❧ overall rating: 6/10
Mikael
❧ this man has a lot of complexity to him, and a lot of it is due to internal conflict. he has such string desires, but because of his upbringing, way of life, and status, he's learned to stifle those desires down into performative indifference
❧ he relies on you to help him with that, and he's learned to be comfortably vulnerable with you, which really strengthens your marriage
❧ he sticks his nose up at a lot of domestic housekeeping tasks, resulting in you either doing it yourself, or forcing him to help out while he pitches a fit lol
❧ he's a big homebody, which shows he's comfortable in the house you built together and gives you slight peace of mind in that you always know where he's at, but if you ever want to go out somewhere, it can take a while to get him to agree
❧ in order for this marriage to last and be successful, you have to be willing to help him, to help each other, grow and adapt and heal. there's a lot of therapy-esque reflection and conversation between the two of you, most often late at night
❧ overall rating: 5.5/10
Ricardo
❧ he's surprisingly great to live with: he's tidy, does his part in housework, knows how to cook
❧ the fun and youthful excitement of y'all's dating stage relationship lasts very well into your marriage; he refuses to go quietly into your aging together, and really values having memories and fun experiences together
❧ his frugality can get a tad bit annoying, especially because it's conditional. he's great at budgeting and paying bills and dues, but every now and then he'll make an impulsive financial decision
❧ which ties into his reckless behavior. having you and your marriage in his life definitely calmed him down, but old habits die hard. at his core, he still has those heartless, borderline psychotic impulses
❧ and let's not forget his dark ending. he is capable of that, and whether you're aware of it or not, the risk for that becoming a reality is still there. you've helped him change and become a better person, helped him mellow and settle down, but how much can nurture reverse nature?
❧ overall rating: 6/10
Noel
❧ he tries his best, but doesn't fully grasp this whole marriage concept
❧ the beginning of your union together consists primarily of you teaching him how to live with someone else. every now and then, it makes you worry about if you're treating him like a child
❧ don't get me wrong, he learns and understands eventually, and he becomes a good person to share a life with, but for a good while in the beginning, your union gets tested
❧ he's a prime example of you need to live with your partner for a while before you get married
❧ honestly, you don't feel as though your relationship with him changed much after marriage; if anything, you just feel more responsibilities piled up as you have to essentially train the poor man to be a husband
❧ and it's not his fault, remember that, he's lost everything at one point, memories included, and every day is a learning experience. as long as he has you by his side, he's confident that he'll become everything that you deserve
❧ overall rating: 4/10
Lucas
❧ life with him is full of adventure and bright, warm feelings. with it, though, is a feeling that you're walking along a tightrope, suspended high above the surface of the earth, but as long as you have your focus on one another, you'll always remain balanced
❧ it's not like y'all are struggling to get by either, early on in your marriage just has the classic vibe of newlyweds working hard to save up and build a beautiful life, sticking by one another through thick and thin
❧ his,, collection of belongings can be a reason for a bit of stress, especially if it all just continues to pile up. he won't clean or organize his belongings regularly unless you ask him to, and he never really sees a problem with it
❧ the two of you are always up to something, there's hardly ever a boring day in your shared life. on the other side of that coin, though, is his desire to always be going somewhere, wandering about and almost getting himself into trouble with his nosiness
❧ this one's hard to explain, but all he's ever wanted was you. he's waited countless lifetimes to have you, and he'd do it all again. yet, there's just something about him that tells me there's an unfulfilled desire within him, something that he'll continue to search for and will leave him perpetually, partially unsatisfied with his life
❧ overall rating: 8.5/10

Hiiii, I’m here with some ask game things!
🦴🌸 pretty please!
Hiii, tysm for the ask! <3 🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?  Oh god, this is such a fun and insanely difficult question. I truly apologize in advance for how long this is about to get because I'm blanking and also can't pick a single thing to save my life. I feel like I'm still in the beginning of trying to figure style out so inspirations keep changing, but right off the bat Richard Siken was a big one that's recently made a comeback. Pretty revelatory to little me at 15 and still very much an influence many, many years later, especially when it comes to poetry. There's just something to how he weaves his wording from tender to violent + that dream-like, stream of consciousness structure, striking visuals about relatively mundane things and a consistent thread of hope and wonder despite the darkness throughout that I find just lovely. Kurt Vonnegut is also a big nostalgic classic from those formative years. Still very much love the tongue-in-cheek humor and the roundabout storytelling of an eccentric old uncle used to address very real and often grim topics in a very human, grounded way. Just about anything that deals with non-linear time, dreams and memory, too. Everything by Tarkovsky, even though I feel like an absolute asshole bringing his genius up while talking about my writing hobby, let alone my silly little fics, but listen, I was a film major. What can you do. Forever enamored with that man's work.
(Dialing it back a little: I'm also rewatching Russian Doll which does memories and trauma reconciliation and the surreal really well while also juggling humor. It's still somewhat painful, but at least it's also very fresh and funny and very full of life. Would love to be able to write a script with that combo one day.)
In terms of some of the general stuff that extends to fanfic-inspiring as well, I'll always have a soft spot for Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay for many, many reasons. It's beautiful, it's sharp, it's creative! It's a (very) sprawling love letter to the Golden Age of comics and the very ongoingly relevant origins of Captain America! To New York in the 30s-50s! To youth and ideas and intersecting identities and illusions of escape and found family! To coming of age and hope and grief in the face of a rapidly complicating world! To meticulous, meticulous historical research! Michael Chabon, I'm in your goddamn walls. Throw in some basic staples of the WWII mini-series genre, + Babylon Berlin and Chernobyl and a bunch of MKUltra paranoia thrillers for fun times with WS-centered darker undertones and political elements re: the '30s and Cold War era, and there you have it. So that is... way too many things off the top of my head and none of them are necessarily all that reflected in my writing yet, however! They do inspire me. 🌸 ⇢ do you have any pets? if you do, post some pictures of them
yes I do! They’re dumbasses in two completely different ways (can you tell?) and the absolute bane of my existence. And I would die for them, I really would.

You’re not boring me! With just a peek into the fandom with its writers and artists like you, I could never be. It’s a good thing that blogs can give new perspectives that make media feel fresh again. I asked about David out of sincere interest, especially since the eilander siblings always seemed so tragic
Thanks for the link though! I never knew that he wrote a apology letter to Dale though! The fact that David is remorseful for his actions makes me realize I should have given his character more introspect. Hopefully in the next game, Dale can come to terms with his parents death by reconciling with David, or at the very least understand why he did what he did—That poor detective boy deserves closure. And maybe David knew that something about Dale would be different. They're both special cases of corrupted souls (You explained with David in your link, and Dale seems to switch in and out of his normal self and corrupted soul when leaving the Lake). When he gets the golden cube to hopefully save himself from repeating the same cycle of violence and tragedy by changing his future, maybe he can change David's future too from forever being a wandering corrupted soul This is long and let me know if I have any facts wrong, but aaaa I just love all this
Yeah he did write a letter to Dale :D
Here it is:
Tumblr media
He is remorseful but he also wanted to save himself so I totally get it. I wouldn't wanna be a corrupted soul either
And I agree that the Eilander siblings are so tragic. They were simply born into this sorta life, none of them asked for this but alas. They are just doomed by the narrative. It hurts me to think about them, of how Jakob and David never got the chance to form a bond because they didn't have the time to be brothers and David never really knew him. The only truly innocent collateral I feel tho is Elizabeth. She never harmed anyone. Tho she did get to be reborn as the Lady of the Lake now I suppose while David is the one out of the three siblings who for whatever reason was never allowed his reincarnation.
But David is resilient and has escaped death before. I'm sure he has more tricks up his sleeve. He's a magician after all.
As for him and Dale... Boy, that's a whole new can of worms you're opening up. They're my fav and the idea of them reconciling is the topic of most my art and comics of them. A slowburn with so much angst and pain but also hopefully healing, because a part of me thinks that's what Rusty Lake is all about... Healing from traumas. If the two of them just had the chance to meet again and work things out 😭
Dale IS special. He is meant to be the successor of Mr. Owl. And I suppose we will see if he will repeat the cycle or do something different. Mr. Owl wants Dale to get rid of the corrupted souls underneath the lake so I assume that means it's his fate to... Idk? Kill them?? Cleanse them??
Tumblr media
But do hope on his journey to do that, that he can meet David one last time for them to put their differences aside... Or idk Dale has the upper hand here, if he wants revenge at that moment he could probably have it.
Tho I hope he doesn't. I hope they make amends, cuz at the end of it all, they're both just pawns for the lake and victims of it all the same. They were both put into these situations under unforgiving and unfair circumstances and they sorta just have to play the hands that they are dealt. 😔
I did talk about this before too but a part of the tragedy of Dale and David is David grew up with a lot of trauma without a mother. He knows what it's like to be in the position he later puts Dale in. Hurt people hurt people, and he repeated the cycle of trauma by putting Dale through it. They'd have an understanding but it would be funny to go "yeah I know how it feels" WHEN YOURE THE ONE WHO PUT THE OTHER PERSON IN THAT SITUATION!
Or maybe all this is just my wishful thinking 😩 I just know I want them to reconcile so bad cuz Dale tried killing David but it didn't fix him. If not revenge, then maybe forgiveness is what he needs to truly heal and move on.

Brothers' Battle part 2/4
(( rp log continued from here !!! directly copied from Discord w minor editing for typos and formatting. yes, we played out an entire Duel. it's going to be a little bit of a read but I'm really, REALLY proud of this group effort to rewrite the VR World arc and there's so much good Character behind the card games.
Seto Kaiba @blueeyesking , me as Noa, Mokuba, and the Yugis. Wyatt @seashaper , Hika @nameless-brand , and Pyre @redeyesandchilifries coming in next installment ))
Seto
Seto takes a few precious seconds, after being hit by Red-Eyes's flames, to reflect on Mokuba's claims. He had to bankrupt an entirely different corporation in order to build the money necessary to get his shares of KaibaCorp. He hunted down every last Blue-Eyes White Dragon card using KaibaCorp's assets, and then ruined their owners' lives to get them… even causing one to kill himself. He's not proud of it. Not anymore. Maybe before his duels with Yugi… but not after. Before Yugi Mutou forced him to confront himself and his own pitfalls, his own venom, he had been obsessive, and dangerous, and hurt Mokuba for failing. But even a genius like him can be made to reconsider their path in life and make changes for the better.
He considers his words, and turn, carefully, before acting. After drawing Monster Reborn (and noting how few truly sacrificial monsters he has in his deck), he sets Cyber Jar face-down in defense mode, then casts Monster Reborn to bring Mokuba's Red-Eyes Archfiend back from the graveyard onto his side of the field, intending to use its Effect to destroy Mokuba's Red-Eyes Black Dragon before it can do any more harm.
"I don't believe your faux-brother will let me survive in any capacity once he's finished getting his so-called "revenge" for our adoptive father. He may be saccharine now, but I can see it in his eyes, Mokuba: this boy is even more dangerous than I was, back then, and will discard you once you've fulfilled your purpose in his scheme."
Mokuba
Mokuba gives his opponent a harsh glare as his monster reappears on the opposite field, though in his mind he's already prepared his next move. His eyes flicker down to his hand to read that card text one more time as his look turns to a smirk.
"yeah, probably not!! so since we agree it's inevitable, maybe you should just get it over with and take a swan dive!!" Mokuba giggles gleefully as he sends his Effect Veiler monster card from his hand to the graveyard, negating Archfiend's destructive effect.
"duh. but at least Big Brother can ADMIT he's dangerous, he knows what he's capable of and he's not going to WASTE his potential on games and toys!!! but you're wrong. I'm going to make him proud, and then we're going to stay a happy family forever, long after you're out of our lives!!"
Seto Kaiba
Seto takes a deep breath.
"I will never give up on saving my little brother, no matter how many times you're taken from me."
His Red-Eyes Archfiend attacks Mokuba's Red-Eyes.
Mokuba
Mokuba's eyes narrow again, his smirk persistent.
"I am NOT your little brother."
he ignores the weird way his stomach suddenly aches as he activates his set Enemy Controller, switching the Archfiend to defense mode before it can launch its attack
Mokuba draws for his turn, and he can't hide the way his smile grows. His second Return of the Red Eyes? Already? What luck !! He immediately sets the trap face down, then plays a magic card from his hand.
Red Eyes Fusion, the card he had selected from his deck with Insight, the card that had also sent Archfiend to the graveyard the first time.
His Red Eyes Black Dragon disappears, replaced by the more fearsome Red Eyes Slash dragon instead. the Crimson Ninja that the fusion card had allowed him to take from his deck skips over the graveyard, going instead to a magic/trap slot as an attachment to the metallic dragon, raising the dragon's attack from 2800 to 3000.
Mokuba declares his battle phase, attacking the Archfiend and returning it, again, to his own graveyard where it belongs.
Seto Kaiba
Seto smiles, despite himself, proud of how well Mokuba's deck synergizes. He then draws a card. Kaiser Sea Horse. Well, it's at least useful for when he wants to summon a Blue-Eyes… For now, he goes into his main phase, and flip-summons the Cyber Jar he set last turn. It destroys Slash Dragon and itself, then resolves its effect: Both players reveal the top five cards of their decks, and immediately Special Summon any 4 or lower monsters revealed; the rest of the cards go into their hands.
Seto reveals Crush Card Virus, Luster Dragon (6), Polymerization, Lord of D. (4), and Vampire Lord (5). Looks like he only gets his Lord of D. The rest are acceptable… Depending on what Mokuba draws, he will have to determine his next move carefully.
Mokuba
Mokuba's gleeful smile disappears, his slash dragon destroyed as quickly as it had been summoned. And without another Red Eyes monster on the field, his trap will be useless.
He can only hope for the best as he draws 5 cards from the top of his deck to reveal Dragon Nails, Pot of Greed, Red Eyes Retro Dragon(4☆) Monster Reborn, Blade Knight(4☆).
Retro dragon(1700/1600) would have been more useful in his hand, but at least it will work to trigger his Return trap once again. That and Blade Knight(1600/1000) are summoned to the field in attack mode, the three spells going into his hand.
Seto Kaiba
Seto looks at Mokuba's summoned monsters and feels yet more pride. Strong, themed cards with yet more excellent synergy. If he destroys Retro Dragon, Return will let him resummon it if he uses Blade Knight as a tribute for any other Red-Eyes. If he doesn't, he'll tribute it to play another Red-Eyes card from his hand, and then return it again… or worse. The only way to stop this is to destroy that second Return. It's an excellent strategy.
"I'm impressed, Mokuba," Seto admits, "Your combo promises to be extremely effective. The synergy you've created is hard to combat without a lot of controlling spells in one's deck."
Luckily for him, Lord of D. prevents Mokuba from altering his Retro Dragon in any way- say, with Dragon Nails- and so Seto uses his only Polymerization to Fusion Summon Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon (2800/2100), discarding the two Thunder Dragons in his hand. He'll have to prevent Mokuba from keeping a Red-Eyes card on the field to power Return!
As such, Seto moves into his Battle Phase, having Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon attack Red-Eyes Retro Dragon. Lord of D. can't hope to defeat Blade Knight, and so, does not attack, instead staying on the field to protect Thunder Dragon. Surely Mokuba will try something with that Monster Reborn…
Mokuba
Mokuba tries hard to hide his excitement, to keep himself from reaching for that set Return too soon. He wants to wait until the end of Seto's main phase, to give him as little chance to counter as possible.
He definitely does not see that fusion coming. His stomach turns again. His head pulses.
Thunder dragons? Ah. He used to play that deck, before he had gone all in on the new Red Eyes support. Why had he switched to using Joey Wheeler's ace monster again? He can't remember--
Mokuba shakes his head to clear his thoughts and squints at the powerful dragon on the field as it lobs an attack at his Retro Dragon. He can't stop the attack, but he can activate his Return of the Red Eyes to bring Red Eyes Archfiend back to the field just before the Retro dragon disappears. But that counter does little to soften the blow of losing 1100 life points. He flinches in pain, arms wrapping around his torso as he struggles to stay on his feet despite the attack. It takes him a second to steady himself before he can move.
"gee…" his voice cracks a little as he glares across the roof at his opponent. "you keep saying you care about me and you wont hurt me anymore… but you sure aren't hesitating to try and kill me, are you?" and with that, he takes his required 11 steps back, closer to the rooftop's edge
Seto Kaiba
Seto's jaw sets. "No, Mokuba, I'm not. I'd do anything to protect you. I've told you as much before," he states, matter-of-fact, as Mokuba takes his steps. "But that doesn't mean I'm not going down without a fight."
And he'll concede if it looks as though his victory is assured. Seto would never kill his little brother, though he's not above tit-for-tat duel damage. With Mokuba at 1550 LP, the duel could still resolve either way…
He moves to Main Phase 2 and sets Crush Card Virus, leaving only the two monsters he already revealed in his hand as well as Kaiser Sea Horse and Ring of Defense, then moves Lord of D. into Defense Position to finally end his turn. No matter what Mokuba returns from the graveyard next turn, Seto feels as though he'll be royally fucked in this duel.
"I know that you can handle yourself; I would be disrespecting your skill and intellect if I just laid down and conceded."
Mokuba
"then why do you keep on hurting me, seto?" Mokuba's voice drips with false innocence as he puts on his best puppydog face. But what Seto says as he ends his turn makes the teenager's stomach hurt again.
He draws for his turn. Summoned skull. With Red Eyes Fusion in his hand already, that card's no more useful here than it was in his deck. But it doesn't matter. He gives a nervous glance to Seto's face down card, contemplating whether or not he can bring this duel to an end this turn. He can't do anything about that potential trap, but he's feeling confident enough to give his plan a shot anyway.
He gives up his normal summon to activate Archfiend's effect once more. Lord of D's effect may shield dragons on the field, but it can't protect itself. and with that gone, he can equip to his own dragons once again.
He plays monster reborn, his Red Eyes Slash Dragon rising from the graveyard. he could activate Return, but that trap card gives him pause. Instead, he goes into his battle phase.
Slash Dragon's attack sits at 2800, tied with the Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon. But ordering it to attack allows him to take his Crimson Ninja from the grave, equipping it to the dragon to raise its attack to 3000. Mokuba watches the monster he'd played once upon a time disappear, taking 200 of Seto's life points with them.
And more importantly, leaving the older Kaiba wide open for a direct attack
Mokuba stares at that face down card. A Mirror Force of any kind would ruin everything. Leave him with nothing to activate Return again. He looks up to make eye contact with Seto.
"so. any last words before I bring this thing to an end??? anything you want to tell your stupid little rivals over there before I send you to hell and take back our company??" Mokuba hooks a thumb at the Yugis as he taunts, delaying while he contemplates his next call.
Seto Kaiba
Seto glances at them, briefly, locking eyes with Other Yugi. He nods with respect before focusing again on the duel at hand.
"No."
He can sense this duel is coming to an end. Drawing… he's not sure what he's hoping for, but what he gets is one of his Blue-Eyes. Under any other circumstances, this would be fantastic… but staring down the Slash Dragon and its matched ATK score, his stomach simply drops. He's lost. Even if they take each other out, Mokuba has his Archfiend and Return trap- which means Slash Dragon will be back on his turn. Seto's out of options.
He summons Kaiser Sea Horse and immediately Tributes it to summon Blue-Eyes, hoping facing down his signature monster in as close to reality as possible will jog something.
"This is it, Mokuba!"
He sounds like he has some way to win up his sleeve, all confidence and finality, as he commands Blue-Eyes to attack Slash Dragon.
yugi!
Over on their tower, the Yugis have been quiet as they've watched this sick battle play out before them. Now, the gentler Yugi braces himself on one of the tower's parapets, his violet-red eyes wide, a look of pained concern on his face as he looks in Seto's direction. Begging him. Pleading with him to find a way to end this peacefully.
The Other Yugi stands beside him, only inches apart, his back straight and his arms crossed. Though his expression usually leans toward tension, there's something sympathetic in his own red-violet eyes. He returns the nod just as respectfully. This is a Duel that he can find no joy in, no honor, no Justice. But he's so proud of his rival, and he trusts in him too.
Mokuba
Mokuba deciding to end his turn without a direct attack results in the worst possible outcome. As the great and terrifying dragon of light materializes on the field, the youngest Kaiba can't help but take half a step backwards in awe. His eyes go wide, his grip tightening on the cards in his hand.
He can't breathe.
His stormy eyes meet sapphire as they watch the mascot of their company, his brother's favorite card-- come to life before him--
Wait
No
[ He loves that dragon more than you and you know it. ]
Mokuba stomps a foot in frustration as he snaps himself out of whatever had overcome him, just in time to hear the Imposter-- the fake-- the Man Who Stole Their Company-- his brother-- order an attack. He expects it to be Archfiend, a guaranteed hit. Then he expects that face down card to turn over and reveal something like Metalmorph, something to turn this Duel against him.
Instead, he watches as the two great dragons, evenly matched, go head to head. As they destroy each other and themselves, both falling to their own graves on opposite sides of the rooftop.
He feels himself shake
NOA
[ On his own tower, Noa Kaiba swells with arrogance, his once gentle mask long since fallen away. No, he wears an openly wicked smirk, one hand on his slender hips as he watches the show before him. He's been quiet, but what does he need to say? Mokuba is already doing such a good job speaking for him.
As he watches the great White Dragon finally take the stage, a wicked idea comes to mind. He'd already left the other parties to their own devices when this battle began, allowing their monstrous opponents and puzzles to run on autopilot in the background. But with a flick of his wrist and a few electrical pulses, that all changes in an instant.
Two more towers rise up from the ground below, forming corners around the rooftop. The sky above each turns briefly to shimmering cyan honeycombs that fall away, creating holes in the sky itself. And from those holes tumble the heroes deemeed uninteresting to this world's diety, now cast as spectators to this awful game.
On one tower land Madison Rook, Levant and Téa, on the other, Joey, Duke, and an odd robotic monkey named Tristan.
"Welcome, my esteemed guests, to the downfall of Seto Kaiba!!! Huh. I'm surprised to see that you've all made it," Noa purrs. But he doesn't give the newcomers more than a second to collect themselves.
"Look!! You're just in time!!"
As the two dragons destroy each other, he can't hold back his gleeful laughter any longer.
Noa claps in applause ]
Seto Kaiba
Heedless of Noa's displays, Seto Kaiba stands steadfast, head held high but arms resting by his side, white coat billowing from the rush of air the dragons caused before they dissipated into smoke. He gazes at Mokuba, warm pride in his eyes and a slight, rueful smile on his lips.
"I end my turn."
He'll be killed next turn, and he's so incredibly proud of his Little Brother.

Enderal for the fandom ask? (Because I'm sure someone else will ask for WOTR and IWTV)
Enderal
((No Interview with the Vampire yet 😁, but that's such a great choice, aaa, one of my favorite games in the history of ever. <333))
Favorite Male Character Jespar Dal'Varek, my beloved boy. Mercenary (and noble who really doesn't like that fact) and the character with the second-best romance I ever played in my life. I'm definitely drawn to hedonists with a melancholic side. He's much ... softer than Daeran though, if you're wondering, with a similar bitterness underneath but still ... gentle. I should also mention the Father. But how to talk about them at all without spoilers ... Leader of a secret cult who believes that the mind should defeat the body. Highly intelligent, highly mysterious and related to my favorite quest. I could write a whole essay about them, but I realize every word I mention about their personality takes away from the pleasure of discovering them yourself, so I'll stay silent for now. 😁 (Also, they are neither a male character nor a female character but agender.)
Favorite Female Character Natara Dal'Veram. Do I have a weakness for conceited, intelligent women in power? You bet. She's the Truchessa of The Holy Order. Sounds important? Is important! She fights the protagonist on every turn. Once more I can't go too much into detail without giving away plot twists, only that she's devoted and hard working and loathes the main character because they step into a high position without doing much for it (or so she believes).
Least Favorite Character The High Ones and what they stand for. I rarely ever hate the antagonist(s) of a story, this time I did. Also Grandmaster Tealor Arantheal for being a fool and slightly Yuslan Sha'Rim for making a certain decision. (I love-hate him though.)
Favorite Ship The Prophet (player character) and Jespar. The romance is so good. So good. You asked me once if there is an existing character Eneas would fall for. He was my Prophet and fell very hard for Jespar despite him being different from those he's usually interested in. I have to add that I played a very young Eneas to fit the story. Very angry, very lost. He changes over the decades. On the other hand, he will change in the Enderal universe too while growing older, and in similar ways ... Ah, so much to think about always.
Favorite Friendship Very weird answer I would love to explain should you ever play the game: The Prophet (player character) - or well, mine at least - and the Father.
Favorite Quote "The world would be a much better place if everyone could just acknowledge that the only reason we're here is that we want to be happy." (Jespar) "All those “heroes” and self-declared messiahs are no better than everyone else. In the end, we are all selfish, because we always act in accordance to what we think we have to be like." (Jespar) "… I've always considered responsibility and being happy to be contradictory. But actually, that's wrong, it's the exact opposite. In order to be truly content, we need... connection. To a person, to a cause, to anything. If you never find that, you'll never find yourself." (Jespar) "I led them into the light. I alone." (Tealor) Ah dammit, I could transcribe the whole game actually.
Worst Character Death (if any) SPOILERS: All of them. So many dead, so much despair, it hurts to even think of it. How to even pick, they'll follow me forever, this game goes so deep. Rynéus, I will never recover. Calia, she deserved the world and he couldn't save her. Lishari, why did it need to come to this, it broke my heart and his as well.
Saddest Moment It's a very sad game in general. Bittersweet. Heavy on the shoulders. SPOILERS: Rynéus' death after this flicker of hope. He would have adopted him. The ending and the last decision and to see it in all its cruelty.
Favorite Location Ark! I fell in love with the city and its people. Also Whisperwood. The atmosphere is beyond amazing and always makes me shiver.
Bonus, because Enderal needs its songs: I picked Eneas without knowing how well he'd fit into the role of the Prophet. German for those who like to hear the Original.

Taylor Swift song game ✍️
First I ever heard:
Made me a swiftie:
Favourite country song:
Favourite pop song:
Favourite folklorian song:
Favourite lead single:
Favourite music video
MEGAN I'm so sorry for the lateness of this reply!!! I love these types of games and I often save them for times when I feel like I need them or when I feel most myself to be able to answer them, and since I'm clearing out my inbox today what better time to answer!! ily thank you for sending this my way <333
First I ever heard: Love Story, circa 2009 in a silly little romcom called Letters to Juliet that was well worth the watch if only for the fact that it changed the whole trajectory of my inner life with the inclusion of one blonde country star's song.
Made me a swiftie: I actually learned Love Story by heart from that one movie, but I never thought of tracking down the rest of her music until a few months later, an older friend lent her iPod to me and my childhood best friend on a roadtrip and she picked Mine and You Belong With Me for us to listen to on a whim, and I was...hooked. I went home the day after and I had listened to Fearless and Speak Now in full before I knew what was happening, and she was in my soul forevermore never to be parted from me again (/j but also true)
Favourite country song: Thissss AGONIZES me but I think I have to say...Crazier. No other song in her discography makes me feel the way this one does, like the world is so deep and wide and blue and true. If she doesn't re-record it I might actually cry.
Favourite pop song: My classic pop-favorite of hers will probably always be King of My Heart, though I haven't been able to listen to it recently due to the uhhh past few months! But that song is so purely what I would describe as uninhibited finally-bared JOY to the heights of the meaning of the word and I will never forget how it struck me wide open like a hammer hitting a geode the first time I heard it. It's still perfect to me quite frankly.
Favourite folklorian song: If you will simply look away and forget how counting conventions work, I will say my most beloved folkmore song is happiness, because to be quite frank with you no song has ever reconciled the parts of me that can be quite angry and hurt with the parts of me that are bright and joyful, and what I love so much is that that song knits those two things together, admits to the fullness of each of them. But it feels like a downer to just pick happiness, so I also have to shoutout the lakes, which has one of my most favorite most beloved Taylor bridges ever!!! Which as part of the sad girls club, I love so much because it owns to how sorrow and heartbreak change us, but when we are loved truly we can be taken hand in hand with that sorrow in full, and it's all okay in the end.
Favourite lead single: ....Maybe it is fully recent-bias, but I think Anti-Hero might be my favorite lead of hers ever, because I think it combines what is quintessentially Taylor in a streamlined series of all her best talents- her wordiness, her tricksiness and slyness and winks and the jokester nature of her, but also the deep depressive parts of her and the pacing-the-floor-at-night-haunted-by-what-could've-been that is so her and so me, too. I think it's a stunning and thrilling decision that it was the lead for Midnights, even though it was FULLY a jumpscare for me to hear it playing at the gym (💀💀💀) I kind of really love that the public at large gets a piece of her heart displayed so openly like this (even if I, a miser, will never think they really deserve her, but I am nothing if not protective/loyal over her!)
Favourite music video: For all time and forever on my favorite video of hers will be Mine!!! If only because I watched it so much as a kidling and internalized the kind of little universe/world that it is since then. I must have watched the BTS of the video a hundred times way back when because she's simply such a delight in it. (real homies know that her best unreleased song is her song about Maine she's just like me making up songs about how much I love gingersnaps /j but am I) But I am also legally obligated to say that the Anti-Hero video is my favorite thing she's ever directed and it's caused such a difference in how I approach how I talk to myself even when I am being most unreasonable (it is not unknown for me to now be like "alright Eden go talk to yourself on the roof and greet yourself coming home it's gonna be fiiiine") so I do have to shout it out for that reason alone.

Tumblr media
Alrighty, now here’s a question that has been stirring in my mind for a while now...
Do Darkners have SOULs?
A while ago I might’ve been like “Well, yeah, obviously. As we’ve seen with the story of Flowey in Undertale, SOULs are the source of love, compassion and kindness in the Toby Fox Video Game Multiverse. Darkners are obviously capable of feeling these emotions, so they have some sort of SOUL.”
(Also just for the sake of clarity, I know the worlds of Deltarune and Undertale are not the same. However, since there does seem to be some connection, I’m making this post under the assumption that the two worlds do at least share the same basic underlying laws of phsyics and metaphysics.)
Anyways, yeah, if we were to go by the rules established by the story of Asriel “Flowey” Dreemurr back in Undertale, obviously the Darkners should all have SOULs, right?
But... maybe not? I’ve gone over it in a different post, but despite what Flowey says, there does seem to be instances of him displaying kindness and compassion even in his SOUL-less state (pleading with the Player/Chara to not ruin Frisk’s happy ending, the whole story about giving Toriel a glass of water in the Alarm Clock Thingie). Plus with both games reiterating that everything we know about SOULs is in-universe speculation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it’s not impossible that Flowey was misidentifying his problem (which is mostly that he was a traumatized emotionally-numb child stuck with god-like timebending powers and the belief he’s incapable of feeling love) and that SOULs actually have a totally different function.
Now, we hop into Deltarune and think about the encounter with Spamton:
Tumblr media
Spamton seems to be interested in their SOUL pretty much as soon as he saw that they are a Lightner (although he might have become more interested when he saw it’s a Human SOUL spesifically?). The wording seems to connect the ‘Light’ of the Lightners with their [[HeartShapedObject]], AKA their SOULs. And we know that Spamton believes that Kris’ SOUL is what would allow him to become [[BIG]] or in other words, ‘free’.
And ‘Light’ is equated with ‘Hope’ in Deltarune, which can be just another word for...
Tumblr media
And Queen defines it as a trait of Lightners. Humans might be more Determined than Monsters, but it seems like both of them have much more Determination than any Darkner. And that, of course, connect to the idea that Lightners seem to have a lot more Free Will right now. Of course, no one can truly choose who they are in this world, but Lightners seem to have a bit more agency in general - while Darkners are tied in with their ‘purpose’ of making Lightners happy, and the way they represent concepts and physical objects in the real world.
(As in, how much of Queen’s personality is a result of her own life choices and how much is because she’s obviously a stand-in for Noelle’s mother? Did Spamton ever had a chance to truly improve his salesmanship, considering he is a representation of Spam E-Mail?)
In Undertale, Alphys calls “Determination” two things, it’s the “the will to keep living”, which obviously connects to how Determination powers SAVEs. And also “the resolve to change fate”, which connect with the power of RESETs, but also I think with the ability to change who and what you are. This is what Spamton wanted when he wanted after Kris’ SOUL, right? To change his fate from being forever doomed to trash beings and spam folders and become a true [[Big Shot]]? He wanted Determination, from a Lightner’s SOUL.
And there’s two things Deltarune keeps repeating when it comes to SOULs, the first is the connection to Compassion which has been carried over from Undertale, and the second is a big empahsis on the subject of ‘Will’ (which again, Queen literally says is just another name for Determination):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, while the book is worded in a not-definitive way (”even now, the true function of it is unknown”), I do think it’s curious to pay attention to the difference between “font” and “source”. Both words can mean ‘where something came from’, but “font” can also be a container rather than an origin point:
Tumblr media
So maybe we can take this to mean that the SOUL does contain kindess and love but you can still have kindness and love without a SOUL just in a Different Way? But that it IS where Will/Determination comes from? Your free will/Determination is the thing you would normally lack without a SOUL? But it’s just that we couldn’t notice it before cause our only example of a SOUL-less being in the Toby Fox Video Game Multiverse has become an artifical source of Determination all on his own so he’s obviously an exception?
Is the SOUL just the thing that gives Lightners more Narrative Agency than Darkners?
This would obviously put Kris in a very precarious position. The part of their mind that’s supposed to allow them some amount of Free Will is being controlled right now and robbing them of that Free Will. But they can’t just rip it out and live without it because it doesn’t just contain their Life-Force, but also their personal will and agency. They can only truly have Free Will for short period of times while SOUL-less but still retaining some Determination in their body, and it’s otherwise a real no-win scenario.
That also kinda puts Flowey’s whole being in a new light, or should I say Light. Cause Flowey really is, more than most “Lightners” in the Toby Fox Video Game Multiverse, really a Light-Equivelent to Darkners. He’s an object given consciousness and life by consentrated Light rather than by the Dark.
(of course, this is all just very vauge speculation right now, all of my evidence is very circumstantial. All I can really say for sure is that I would want to REALLY pay attention about what is said about SOULs in the upcoming chapters of Deltarune, and espacially in relation to Darkners. Cause right now we can’t be sure if they even have those at all)

10 Books to get to know me
Rules: 10 (non-ancient) books for people to get to know you better, or that you just really like.
Thank you to @bluesundaycake for the tag.
So I'm going to start with what the hell is this non-ancient business? I am going to take that at face value and not mention The Odyssey because that is an actually ancient book. I know the rules are just trying to say not an old book but I am old so everyone will just have to deal.
Distress - Greg Egan
This is my favourite book. It was written in 1995 and I have to mention that because it was so groundbreaking for its time. This was the first time that I had ever read a story where someone who was Agender was a character. Akili is the main love interest in the story and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Essentially the book is about a strange mental disease that is spreading throughout the globe. At the same time the physics world is all excited because Violet Mosala is developing a new Theory of Everything. The story follows the life of Andrew Worth who is science journalist covering the theory.
The reason I love this so much is because the main moral of the story is that no one can know what anyone else is thinking. You can stereotype as much as you like but you can never truly know. It's why I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Enders Game Series - Orson Scott Card
Yes. You're going to get a lot of science fiction on this list. Just deal with it.
What's not to love? It's dark. The morals are so grey. What would you do to save humanity? What is a bit of casual Xenocide between friends. The characters are brilliant and nuanced (Bean is my favourit). The story makes you question how horrible of a person you are. Brilliant.
There's way to much plot to summarise but here is the brief. Aliens attacked earth. The government created super intelligent children and trained them for war to beat the aliens. These are their stories.
The Lightbringer Series - Brent Weeks
There's a couple of reasons why this is one of my favourites but I will start with the plot. It really is just one of those child presents with phenomenal powers, learns to use them and eventually ends up saving the day. Here's where it's different.
The world building. This magic system is one of the most interesting and creative ones I have come across. It's based off colour and light and is just so well thought out that it makes me... Hang on I have a gif for this.
Tumblr media
Secondly the freaking Gavin twist! If you've read the series you know what I'm talking about. I won't do any spoilers but just know there is a twist and it changes everything.
Tumblr media
Silverthorn & A Darkness at Sethanon - Raymond E Feist
What can I say about this one. You may be surprised that it's not Magician and that I didn't say the whole series but these two go together and are so mean so much more to me than the rest. Why? It's Prince Arutha's story. Prince Arutha is such a second child and I just vibe with that. His brother is handsome and charismatic and everyone loves him but Arutha is smart and canny and not as well liked but he is also fair and kind and honestly I could just go on about him forever. The story is gripping and heartbreaking and brilliant.
Tumblr media
Wool, Shift & Dust - Hugh Howey
This is post apocalyptic conspiracy gold. The human race consists only of what is left living inside giant bunkers in the ground that they call silos. The atmosphere outside is so toxic that no one can go outside. The series starts with an execution. You see they don't have the resources to have long term prisoners so if anyone does something that deserves long term incarceration they are executed. How are they executed? I'm so glad you asked. They are sent outside. They are sent outside with some cleaning supplies and are asked to clean the windows of the silo because they are always filthy as no one can go outside to clean them.
Anyway the political plotline is good, the conspiracy is better and the main character is a tough as nails BAMF called Juliette.
Tumblr media
Beauty - Sheri S Tepper
Trigger warning: Rape/Non-Con
No one mixes fantasy and science fiction quite like Tepper and she does it best in this book. It is like a love letter to the fairytale genre. One of the best parts is picking out which tale each character represents. It has time travel, fairies, love, trauma and everything in between. It follows the story of Beauty as she tries to escape a curse to be with her one true love and instead gets lost in time, space and between worlds.
Dark Rise - C.S. Pacat
The first magical realism of the list. I didn't know this when I started reading it but the whole crux of this story is that Pacat was trying to write the worst set up for a relationship that she could imagine and oh boy did she. You will not see it coming but it is so so good.
Anyway the plot is this. Will is your typical chosen one working to stop the rise of an evil Dark Lord with the help of a few people including Violet his crush. It has references to the crusades and the lost magic of the old world and a unique secret order. Here's the thing. Nothing is what you think and the twists in this book are freaking amazing.
If you've read it hit up my DMs because I cannot talk about it enough and I am dying to read book two (coming out Dec 2023).
I've also read her Captive Prince series which I also enjoyed and was almost included in this list.
Tumblr media
The Hunger Games Series - Suzanne Collins
We all know this one. If you don't what rock have you been hiding under. I do love tragedy.
That said I know not as many people have read "A Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes" but please do. Everyone keeps asking me how can I get past Coriolis Snow being the main character? If you haven't guessed by now I love villian origin stories and this is a bloody good one.
Does it excuse who he is and what he does? No but that's part of why it's good. How can we not get behind a spectacular fall from grace. Just read it.
The Wayfarer Series - Becky Chambers
I can't believe I almost forgot this one! Becky Chambers is here writing freaking cutting edge romance. The first book ends in one of the most heartbreaking tragedies I have ever read. Her universe and world building is so creative and different that nothing quite matches it.
Essentially in this universe humans have no home planet. Earth was destroyed hundreds of years ago so we are the immigrants and the minority in the galaxy as we have no home of our own.
Each book is stand alone but I would recommend reading them all as they are that good. Each explores a different set of characters and stories with some overlap so you do get the occasional callbacks to previous books. These are full of characters trying to get by while compromising and appreciating their differences.
Truckers, Diggers and Wings - Terry Pratchett
I had to mention something by Terry Pratchett and I choose this one because it was the first. Soul Music was a close second but this one has such a special place in my heart. It is the story of the nome Masklin who grew up in a hole. A literal hole. It follows his story as he learns that the world is much bigger than he grew up to believe.
I don't know if you know this but I grew up in a small country town halfway up the coast of Western Australia. This book speaks to me because it resonates so much with my personal story because I did grow up and find out the world was much bigger than I had ever realised.
Ok I'm done. That took forever. I may have lost count.

Top 5 gayest Eiwata moments ?
matteo this is truly the question of the century. God bless you. I'm not sure if I can TRULY do a top 5 in order with my terribly low mental energy right now, but I will compile 5 key moments for you! you may as well have asked this as a joke, but I'm not fucking around sorry. I am placing this under a 'read more' because this will include some exhausting screenshots.
5) eichi's dream in jingle bells prologue
Tumblr media
I cannot post the full scene, but I believe it's already quite infamous as it is, especially due to the anime adaptation. eichi likening wataru to an angel (or to an otherwise divine entity) is a reoccurrence in the story, but seeing him on his sickbed dreaming of wataru as an angel who offers him salvation while he's in a horrible physical + mental state is Something. note that the accompanying art for this scene looks like (an abnormally peaceful) suicide.
Tumblr media
interpret that however you will! :-]
4) milky way epilogue (+ phantom thieves epilogue)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
eichi has his share of lines in milky way's epilogue that deserve to be looked at, but wataru's ending paragraphs are truly some of the most memorable pieces of their dialogue to me, and the fact that they end the story as a whole packs an even stronger punch.
"how pure it must be, to live life with all of one's strength... I am sure heaven originally existed for people such as you" is one of my favourite lines in enstars. I also paired this segment with phantom thieves just because they fit together like puzzle pieces in my brain, alongside diner live's epilogue as well. These two have a LOT of epilogues together.
3) daydream (+ ep:link prologue)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's more here, but I cannot bring myself to make these screenshots longer than they already are, so I had to cut out text for courtesy's sake. alas, I think daydream is a haunting character study of war-era eichi, and his final lines about wataru as he's teetering on the edge of unconsciousness does terrible things to my mind.
additional sidenote of ep:link's prologue for building on the same scene set in daydream, years later
Tumblr media
2) WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY HAD GOING ON IN THE REST OF THE 2015 NOVEL SERIES? (daydream not included)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
happy eichi woman gone mad with jealousy monday
Tumblr media
I know I said I'm not actually doing this in order, but I am saving the best for last. the one and only. One of the most revolutionary stories in the entirety of the game. ep:link (emphasis on chapters 16+17/chapters 31+32)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and I'm ending this with wataru's line which changed me forever
Tumblr media
if you read this all the way through...o7

Rdr2 is truly the best game ever made. In a way it quite literally ruined gaming for me because now i just know i’ll never find a game as good as this was. But it’s amazing how Rdr2 just has it all.. the action, the drama, the beautiful scenery and landscape, a very interactive open world, a great character as protagonist, the awesome songs (that’s the way it is and see the fire in your eyes are my all time favourite but there are also some amazing soundtracks, i really like the “dark” soundtrack that plays when you ride back to your camp after beating Thomas Downes. Also the trumpet one where Arthur saves captain Monroe) the most beautiful story of redemption. It’s just perfect in every way. There is absolutely no issues that i have with this game. I will forever be bitter over the fact that it didn’t win 2018 GOTY.
-🐴
It is an unmatched masterpiece. Open world games like that tend to take over my life and this one has had a grip on me for almost 4 years. I love the dynamic weather, the sunsets, the rainbows, the waterfalls, random events, the side character missions, the night skies, the flowers, the birds flying around, hearing the strange call of an elk, riding a horse through a foggy aspen forest before the sun comes up, drinking coffee in my little camp on a mountainside, browsing general stores, the endless little details, the different ecosystems of snowy mountains, meadows, swamps, and forests, the list goes on. But my love rests deepest with Arthur. Roger’s acting was amazing at portraying a man who followed the wrong star for too long. The tragedy of it all—seeing a character realize it’s not too late to do the right thing even though it’s too late to save himself—still breaks my heart to this day. The story does a great job of showing how greed corrupts men and what America used to be and how it changed. I could honestly talk about this game for weeks on end lol. And the soundtrack!!!! Pure genius. I especially loved the track when the Pinkertons show up outside Lakay—the soundtrack is rife with tension and adrenaline and suspense and oooooomph that saxophone in the back. The music tells a story too in evoking the emotion in the story beat’s tone, like in the Unshaken track. Also just the roaming around, exploration tracks have a place in my heart that feels like home.
It IS a beautiful story of redemption. A very bittersweet one too. The game changed my life tbh. Nothing can replace it. 2018 was a great year for gaming and it had a lot of competition. God of War WAS really good and I can see why it won, but it definitely wasn’t an easy choice. I’m so glad Roger got the recognition he deserved for his incredibly talented work though. With masterful writing, music, and visuals, a lot of very talented people worked very hard on this game and it shows. I am so grateful for the friends I've met because of it, the inspiration it gave me towards writing (I love westerns now and want to write one), and just the experience in total. I could gush about it forever and I love talking about it, so thank you for sending me a message! I'm right there with you 💌
