i see a lot of posts on here celebrating fanfic authors who research in incredible detail to create realistic fics, and yes, absolutely, but also... shout-out to the writers who don't. here's to the writers who don't have medical training and can't be bothered to look up the difference between stitches and sutures because they want to get to the comfort part of h/c. here's to the writers who don't have the faintest idea how communicators work and invent their own cybersecurity logic to save their sanity because they're here for the drama, not a compsci degree. here's to the writers who operate by the rule of cool and nothing else.

Children of Time Rant

Tldr: Read Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, it's very good. Also sentient spiders have five names apparently, and there are personalities associated with said names.

Just read through Children of Time (by Adrian Tchaikovsky), started reading Children of Memory, and promptly realised it was the third book and not the second. So now I'm waiting for Children of Ruin (book 2) to arrive on Amazon. Did I start CoT about three days ago? Yes. But I need more spider content. Gimme the spider-Human interactions.

I love how we get five names for those spiders, and one is only used once, but I still remember it because we get five names and they are: Portia (always our PoV), Bianca (always Portia's friend), Fabian (male), Viola (important side character), and Osric. Osric is mentioned once and it is to tell us that he died.

But like I love how we get around 2000 years worth of spiders and still we have four names in use. Going into the characters (traits associated with names) in more depth: (oh and when I refer to anything relating to gender, the Portiids basically have "reverse sexism:biology edition")

They're always powerful and always smart, the leaders of their society. Fabian is often very outspoken for a male, and he's smart, often a pioneer of technology, which is notable because---again---he's male. Bianca and Portia sometimes switch up, but they swap between scientist and warrior, and are close friends. Fabian is often one of their assistants. Viola is always a high-ranking spider, influential, but a side character. These are basically just their roles and not personalities because those do flip-flop.

Anyways, little rant over. Read the book(s). They're good. Or at least the first one, haven't read the second yet.

sonic idw issue #32 is top tier and this is one of the pages that resonated with me

Sonic is on the ground, seemingly burned (somehow?) by the "sacred flames" used by burning blaze to bring his memories back. blaze was not sure if it would work. she still not is. but she approaches him, careful to not get too close in order to give him any space he needs to allow him to feel better.

when he doesn't respond, she reminds him she's still there, by calling out his name, his real name, the one he would disregard a few moments ago, and at the same time reassures herself that he will be okay, she knows he will be.

sonic can only think of Blaze; her super form which brought him back to his usual self is surrounding his thoughts alongside his own super form, the one responsible for his amnesia. (2 super forms clashing to reverse the damage done?) he feels confused but his memories are slowly coming back.

still burning (?), he bows to blaze, acting in a similar manner to amnesiac sonic who would constantly act smugly and even flirtatiously in some cases around the princess. he did it to thank her but to tease her too, he knows she dislikes formalities.

blaze on the other hand is relieved sonic is alright but doesn't bother hiding how concerned she was, since she immediately judges Sonic for downplaying the situation, even though he still continues to do so. she even gets closer now to make sure he's fine and maybe to make him feel a bit nervous so that he will admit that him falling from the sky is actually quite serious.

sonic leans back, avoiding blaze's almost interrogating gaze. of course he won't admit how bad things were, especially after the way he arrived at her world. he doesn't want to bother her any further, bcuz he's already feeling apologetic for making her worry.

anyway, overprotective blaze + teasing sonic, yes please.
