Part four: you get to know who Keigo takami or “Hawks” is

Surprisingly you and Keigo seem to get along pretty well despite you being reserved and introverted, and him being more outgoing with everyone. So having a study session at the library where he was spacing out and you trying to figure out what this material was even indicating was a common occurrence.

“Oh hey hawks.” A girl walked by waving at him

“Heyy.” he said placing his hand up 

“Okay you have to tell me, why do they call you hawks?” you asked again

“No real reason.” he said, and you frowned

“Fine, keep your secrets.” you said

“Aww don't get pouty.” he said poking your cheek “look how about i show you why later tonight okay.”

“You aren't going to do anything weird are you?” you asked

“What do you take me for a weirdo?” he asked

“...”

“(name)...do you take me for a weirdo.” he said leaning near you

“Uhh nope not at all.” you said looking away, only to catch a  glimpse of someone who looked like Dabi, but when you blinked he was gone, you look startled

“Hey you okay over there?” Keigo asked

“Huh...oh yeah just thought I saw someone I knew.” you said rubbing your eyes, no way Dabi would be here

“Well from the looks of shock and horror in your eyes, it must have been someone you didn't like.” Hawks observed from you

“Guess I'm easy to read then.” you said “But what are the chances he would be outside the library right now.”

Very high actually since Dabi was there looking through the window and ducked away when you saw him, other students were giving him word looks but were too sleep deprived to say anything to him.

“Hey Hawks.” Another guy came by

“Sup.” he said

“Okay seriously why do so many people call you hawks?” you asked again and he leaned back in his chair.

“Well, if I show you, you have to promise not to freak out.” He said that was something to be suspicious of.

“Freak out, why would I freak out?” you said

“You seem like a goodie goodie.” he said, booping your nose with his pencil, oh yeah the girl who underage drank in underground bars with her last boyfriend was a goodie goodie.

“I'm sure I will be fine.” you said

“Alright then.” Hawks said putting his notebook away, guess the two of you were leaving now then, you packed up and followed him, all the way to the parking garage “You coming in?”

“This is suspicious.” you said, Keigo shrugged, great he was going to be all mysterious, Dabi was following the two of you, and damm (name) were you really following a strange man who you barley knew into a parking garage.

Keigo found lot 56 that was also a garage and he took out his keys and opened it, you were surprised to see a red car.

“Whelp here it is.” Keigo said, patting the hood “My 1967convertiblemustang, except I kind of decked it out to go over 200 instead of the 140, one of the things I got from my dad.”

“OH it's a car...but this still doesn't explain why they call you hawks?” you said

“Ah it's the nickname they give me when i street race, hawks the man who's too fast for his own good.”

“Ohhh, but wait, falcons are faster than hawks.” you said

“Yes, but wait aren't you a little wigged out on the whole street racer thing.”

“Not really, I used to watch street racing all the time with my ex-” you shut your mouth, you were really hoping to not bring Dabi up to anyone.

“Your ex, oh (name) you never told me you had an ex.” Keigo said

“I don't really like to talk about him...the relationship didn't end well.” you said rubbing your arm

“I see, but you two just watched street racing, he never participated.”

“No, he got motion sickness really easily.” you said

“Ah sounds like a twit.” Keigo said, this made you laugh a bit, Dabi was pissed off by that comment.

“He kind of was….but still why do they call you hawks?” you asked

“Well one more reason.” Keigo said taking his jacket off and tossing it to you, before taking hsi shirt off

“Hey what are you doing!?” you squished out, as he turned around to see two red hawk wings tattooed on his back

“I kind of….had a rebellious phase in highschool.” he said putting his shirt back on 

“No, I think tattoos are actually really pretty, or handsome.” you said, he gave a  half smile a bit relieved you didn't freak out on him.

“..i think everyone did.” you said still holding onto his jacket “i did as well as you aren't exactly alone.”

“So you aren't scared or freaked out?”

“Well Thank you ,because they hurt.” He said “Come on, let's go for a ride.”

“Huh, are you sure?” you asked

“Yup, it will be fun!” he boosted

Dabi couldn't believe what he just witness, you were really following this weird man and getting into his car and driving off with him no less, have you never listen to a true crime podcast, he called up his friend who was in the hotel near the university who was listening to pop music when his phone rang, it was Dabi so he answered Dabi was demanding he get his car and bring it to his location.

Not really having a choice he got up and went to his car, to pick him up.

“So you figured out who Keigo Takami was?” He said

“A street racer really.” Dabi said

“I tried to tell you, I have raced him few times and he was still in highschool, nearly ran me off the road. Look Keigo may seem like a regular guy, but something is off about him, you should stay away from him.”

“And you think something isn’t unsettling about me, look, just find them for me.” Dabi said

“So bossy.”

There’s a handful of internet personalities I have mixed feelings about and would have a hard time interacting with in a chill way, like without letting on about those mixed feelings and turning it into an awkward thing. Like... anyone who I couldn’t just keep comfortably quiet about my beef with them around, y’know? 

5. If you were a type of tree, what would you be?

probably a coconut tree on account of like, they have a cool image and people want to have them around, but you gotta be careful about getting too close because what if one of the coconuts fell and left you with a serious injury? like, you’ll probably be fine, but what if the tree was too honest about some mean judgmental shit or wrong opinion suddenly?

8. What do you label yourself as?

I have a hard time with this one! Vocationally, of course, I’m a game developer, and that’s sort of broadly accurate- even when I’m not actually working on video games, I’m participating in tabletop games and coming up with activities-to-do-with-people. And I don’t like to call myself an artist, exactly, because actual visual artists are a different breed, but in the broad sense- I make art, yeah. And then there’s all them irrelevant demographic labels, like what I put in my about. (i gotta update my longform about, actually, it says 23 and i am no longer 23 and probably there’s a bunch of other outdated stuff in there.)

21. If you were the opposite sex for one day, what would you look like and what would you do?

One day??? Fuck, that’s rough. What I’d look like- that kinda depends, do I get to choose an ideal form, or is it just, rough biological equivalent of my current situation, and it’s a matter of how I’m gonna dress? I’d need to experiment to figure out a look, and a day’s just not long enough to nail down a design. I guess I’d bring a friend with a camera, go down to a thrift store, try a bunch of different things and get loads of pictures... and then probs try and find someone to bone on short notice, because like, one day? That’s just cruel.

55. Can you do any accents other than your own?

I can do most regional American accents, and English decently well, but ask me to do Scottish or Irish and I guarantee I’ll fuck up and flip-flop between them on different words- which would probably sound hilarious to a native speaker (my Scottish is more reliable, I think). I can kinda do New Zealand (which is to say, do Australian, which is easy, and make almost all my vowels gravitate towards a short i sound). 

Am thinking can also do Russian accent, but is entirely from movies and games and such- have not actually spoken with any Russians, so would not know if was “accurate”, as far as this means anything. Is really just Heavy Weapons Guy impression. Omit articles and pronouns that can be inferred from context- is efficient. Do not know why “proper” English language bothers putting in every time.

had a really bizarre dream last night, it happened in two parts which was the oddest bit. I can remember general details but not enough to be useful as to the overall narrative; but i’ll tell it in a long blurb.

Firstly, I think we were travelling in a bus, it felt like a school bus but it never really seemed to go to one. In fact it felt like it went the other way, from where we eventually ended up, and yet still the purpose of this was to view The Thing.

I don’t think people believed in the Thing but we were looking right at it.

it was a BIG BOI(TM) tbh, but the details are kind of hazy, bc at one point i think it had feet and legs instead of flippers, while it was on land. Head was probs bigger, but i can’t draw for shit; the whole thing was strangely proportional. That’s not quite the right colour, either. Strangely coloured, lighter, but it seemed to change the more you looked at it.

However, the important thing was that it seemed to live in a small lake by a bridge the bus would cross over day after day, and we all knew there was a farmer that owned the lake, and would maintain the monster. No one was to go there.

now, I don’t recall the circumstances of how or why, but it GOT OUT the first time, and did terrible things. Somehow, myself and this other person (who tended to switch from boy to girl at different instances for no real reason), fought this creature, won, put it back in the lake. It happened a second time, I think, before the farmer decided to drop the water level so it couldn’t swim out.

there was some sort of hanging out with a pair of two older people, a couple, they were going to keep an eye on the lake thing I believe. Had this fancy yacht-level luxury caravan, and had it by the lake, I think at one point the monster thingo ended up in their partially drained swimming pool. 

My companion and I were affectionate, which seemed to annoy the creature, but it didn’t even mind when the older two were canoodling so hard they landed on top of it. (I thought they’d be eaten but nope...)

Well, we went to ‘school’ for some reason. At which point I realised two things...

one, the town seemed to be on a hill, a straight incline up from the place with the creature (which we hadn’t noted before at any point, 

and two, on the right side was this fuck off huge beach/ocean area, some part of me knew the creature had made it into the ocean, and was swimming along the coast. 

everyone at this school seemed to crowd into a little room, there was a max. of twenty people. ages indeterminate, not old, not young. everyone knew about our bravery, about destroying the monster. I kept having this sense of ‘it is coming’ and ‘we need to react NOW’, but everyone was pretty ‘yeah we got it, you saved us no need to recreate it!’ about this. 

I think the Other person, who was a girl at this point and also in the weird uniform, seemed to feel it too. People had flags and shirts and posters with the monster on it, some had fight scenes, etc. It was like the whole thing had been reduced to... i don’t know, an interesting sporting event or something.

But it was coming, it was pissed off in fact, for no reason that could be pinpointed. Problem was there was a celebration about defeating it making it hard to get the point across.

Dream!me is shouting that we need to GO, NOW, IT’S COMING But of course, as your heart is thudding in shit!shit!shit!gotta move adrenaline, the ‘monster head’  turned out to be a very detailed puppet/kite thing being carried past as part of a parade, in which a large banner that also freaked myself and the other hero out, was also present.

It was like false alarm after false alarm and none of the others understood why it was so stressful; why we weren’t getting into the spirit of things, and seemed frustrated.

Like, buddy... it is ACTUALLY COMING. 

And then, surprise, it happened. This towering angry motherfucker turned up, breaking buildings and such, and everyone was like, “Why did no one warn us?”

Well, I think we fought it for a bit before an older woman turned up and took us away for ‘training’, which seemed utterly non-sequitur the whole time we were participating.

For one, there was a tf2 style obstacle course, and game symbols would flash up on little signs giving you like .05 of a fucking second to respond or have your ass blown off. Then there was a strange sequence involving her teaching us how to escape water torture. As in, she had what appeared to be a diving mouthpiece in her mouth, apparently pumping water into her lungs to drown her on land; and it was padlocked to her face, simultaneously covering her nose, by heaps of thick chains. Her arms were also chained above her to a pipe. In a strange movement that I can’t even recall now, she snapped the pipe and got free in a second. 

It seemed very heroic but also what the FUCK IS HAPPENING at the same time.

Then we were just out there, squaring up to the monster when I was woken up.

It was not unusually vivid, for me, but still... strange in that there was no exceptional detail, like normal.
