Spent most of today reading this webcomic I came across- the discovery process was "the author was on a reblog chain somewhere, and I noticed the icon was the same as the icon I always see @purpleisdebeste using in Jello stream chat, and I thought they were the same person and wondered what their webcomic was like". That ended up not being the case but the comic was still pretty good!
It's this high fantasy story about this guy who's like, a consciousness that inexplicably formed inside the dead body of a god whose soul got stolen by an evil white mage? I like that it's interested in building a proper system of what a god is and what magic is and what elements are and how it all interlocks, and how a lot of the plot is about fleshing out that system and exploring its implications. It has rules and sticks to them! The world makes sense considering what the rules are and you'd have a different story if the rules didn't hold! Lot of stuff doesn't clear that bar.
That said it's still a very emotional story- it's character-driven, not just a bare examination of mechanics. The magic system is very animist, made up of people and people-like things with believable drives and preferences, and the core cast of big important magic protagonists gets to interact with that in a very interpersonal way. It's got strong villains and compelling conflicts and the characters' actions generally make sense! Good stuff.
There's... a few weaknesses, I'd say? The character designs are often pretty bland, with a lot of androgynous anime-lookin' sameface prettyboys, all with the same body type, differentiated mainly by hairstyle and color scheme. The core cast suffers from a... kind of good problem to have, where they're all good communicators and sensible likeable people and end up unable to sustain much party conflict as a result. And you're not really gonna find much novelty in the story- just above-average execution of a pretty familiar set of fantasy tropes.
Still, it's a fun time! I like the evil storm man whose hair is a big cloud, and the flippant metal lightning lady. The main antagonist's motivation is also really interesting, and she has this delightfully scary matter-of-fact approach to killing and dissecting gods. And it's pretty well-written and funny and has good pacing! I'll probably keep reading this.

I’m halfway into the first Miles Vorkosigan book, and so far it’s basically been “How to DM Around a Diplomancer: Space Opera Edition.”
Miles: “I tell the mercenaries I’m a mercenary commander and I bought up all their contracts from their captain, so they’re part of my company now.” DM: “Roll for Bluff. :)” Miles, who has a higher Bluff bonus than most gods: “34.” DM: “They want to know when copies of the regulation handbook will be distributed and what the health insurance plan is like. (: (: (:” Miles, sweating: “UUUUUUHHH”

pro gamer move: when you need to remember to do [task], but have something you have to do first and you know you'll forget [task] by the time you finish the first thing,
you put a random object in a place it obviously shouldn't be.
then when you see the object later, you'll be like "why the fuck is [object] in [place]?", and the only answer to that will be "i put it there, so i wouldn't forget to do the completely unrelated thing".
(the immediate followup question is "what on earth does [object] have to do with [task]?", but by that point you've already remembered [task], so it is too late for that objection, sucker.)

I must say while it isn't technically wrong nothing could have prepared me for seeing an old album I was looking up listed on a foreign site as "doujin works" right next to SiivaGunner compilations

When people get a little too gung-ho about-
wait. cancel post. gung-ho cannot be English. where did that phrase come from? China?
ok, yes. gōnghé, which is…an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
That’s…wild. What was I talking about?

basically, i think the general rule of thumb is: if someone REALLY wants the blood that’s inside of your body, and they’re like… a vampire, or a dracula, or some sort of mansquito, then that’s probably okay. a dracula and a mansquito are made for removing things like blood and swords from inside your body. that’s basically fine.
if something wants to get at your blood, and they’re, say, some kind of murdersaurus, or maybe a really big frog, that’s where the problems start to arise. a really frog is not made for removing blood, and your blood knows this, which is why it is so vehement about wanting to stay IN your body instead of coming out.
unfortunately this will not deter a really big frog, because a really big frog is full of things like prizes, and value, and quite a lot of hatred, and it would REALLY rather like to replace any and all of those things with your blood, and basically by any means possible.
