Okay I'm almost done with Fellowship, here's an incomplete list of shit I noticed and thought was buck fucking wild on my first ever read-thru: medieval edition.
In literally the second line of the book, Tolkien implies that Bilbo Baggins wrote a story which was preserved alongside the in-universe version of the Mabinogion (aka the best-known collection of Welsh myths; I promise this is batshit). This is because The Hobbit has been preserved, in Tolkien's AU version of our world, in a "selection of the Red Book of Westmarch" (Prologue, Concerning Hobbits). If you're a medievalist and you see something called "The Red Book of" or "The Black Book of" etc it's a Thing. In this case, a cheeky reference to the Red Book of Hergest (Llyfr Coch Hergest). There are a few Red Books, but only Hergest has stories).
not a medieval thing but i did not expect one common theory among hobbits for the death of Frodo's parents to be A RUMORED MURDER-SUICIDE.
At the beginning of the book a few hobbits report seeing a moving elm tree up on the moors, heading west (thru or past the Shire). I mentioned this in another post, but another rule: if you see an elm tree, that's a Girl Tree. In Norse creation myth, the first people were carved from driftwood by the gods. Their names were Askr (Ash, as in the tree), the first man, and Embla (debated, but likely elm tree), the first woman. A lot of ppl have I think guessed that that was an ent-wife, but like. Literally that was a GIRL. TREE.
Medieval thing: I used to read the runes on the covers of The Hobbit and LOTR for fun when I worked in a bookshop. There's a mix of Old Norse (viking) and Old English runes in use, but all the ones I've noticed so far are real and readable if you know runes.
Tom Bombadil makes perfect sense if you once spent months of your life researching the early medieval art of galdor, which was the use of poems or songs to do a form of word-magic, often incorporating gibberish. If you think maybe Tolkien did not base the entirety of Fellowship so far around learning and using galdor and thus the power of words and stories, that is fine I cannot force you. He did personally translate "galdor" in Beowulf as "spell" (spell, amusingly, used to mean "story"). And also he named an elf Galdor. Like he very much did name an elf Galdor.
Tom Bombadil in fact does galdor from the moment we meet him. He arrives and fights the evil galdor (song) of the willow tree ("old gray willow-man, he's a mighty singer"), which is singing the hobbits to sleep and possibly eating them, with a galdor (song) of his own. Then he wanders off still singing, incorporating gibberish. I think it was at this point that I started clawing my face.
THEN Tom Bombadil makes perfect sense if you've read the description of the scop's songs in Beowulf (Beowulf again, but hey, Tolkien did famously a. translate it b. write a fanfiction about it called Sellic Spell where he gave Beowulf an arguably homoerotic Best Friend). The scop (pronounched shop) is a poet who sings about deeds on earth, but also by profession must know how to sing the song or tell the story of how the cosmos itself came to be. The wise-singer who knows the deep lore of the early universe is a standard trope in Old English literature, not just Beowulf! Anyway Tom Bombadil takes everyone home and tells them THE ENTIRE STORY OF ALL THE AGES OF THE EARTH BACKWARDS UNTIL JUST BEFORE THE MOMENT OF CREATION, THE BIG BANG ITSELF and then Frodo Baggins falls asleep.
Tom Bombadil knows about plate tectonics
This is sort of a lie, Tom Bombadil describes the oceans of old being in a different place, which works as a standard visual of Old English creation, which being Christian followed vaguely Genesis lines, and vaguely Christian Genesis involves a lot of water. TOLKIEN knew about plate tectonics though.
Actually I just checked whether Tolkien knew about plate tectonics because I know the advent of plate tectonics theory took forever bc people HATED it and Alfred Wegener suffered for like 50 years. So! actually while Tolkien was writing LOTR, the scientific community was literally still not sure plate tectonics existed. Tom Bombadil knew tho.
Remember that next time you (a geologist) are forced to look at the Middle Earth map.
I'm not even done with Tom Bombadil but I'm stopping here tonight. Plate tectonics got me. There's a great early (but almost high!) medieval treatise on cosmology and also volcanoes and i wonder if tolkien read it. oh my god. i'm going to bed.

Secondhand embarrassment for ppl so angry about others saying 'prev tags' in the tags tbh
Those threads where people are all saying 'prev tags' but the previous tags are also just that and you have to go back like 30 times? Yeah those deserve to be dropkicked to death, but if they're genuinely just talking about the tags in the reblog before? It's not that deep. Maybe they just wanted to quietly enjoy/agree with the tags without making the subject a core part of the post like screenshotting would.

I HC Sirius as the most skilled duelist amongst the marauders.
He spent 12 yrs in azkaban, an yr in a cave on the run and another one cooped up in his house and was still skilful enough to duel Bellatrix ( yes she was in azkaban too but tht barely counts as azkaban doesn't affect death eaters as much as it affects normal ppl, which is y DEs can't produce and don't need a patronus around dementors). The only reason he lost was because he got arrogant and reckless, not because he wasn't skillful enough. Bellatrix was trained by voldemort himself, but we have no canon proof of Sirius being officially trained by anyone. Kingsley, who was a trained auror and who could duel 2 DEs at the same time, was thrown back after duelling her for lyk 2 secs( tho he was probably upset abt Sirius dying so I ll give him a pass).
Now, ik tht james and lily deceived voldemort 3 times n tht he wanted to recruit them (which doesn't make sense coz lily was a muggleborn n this is never explained or brought up in the series again but sure), but i still think Sirius is more powerful in this sense coz he's ready to inflict pain on his enemies in a way James isn't. This dynamic is laid out by how Sirius is the one to send Snape to the whomping willow and James is the one who risks everything to save him, essentially doing damage control here. In a fight against voldemort's followers, Sirius's actions would count as beneficial for the greater good rather than prompting a moral analysis of his character.
Compared to lily.... yeah I don't think she's gonna triumph on a fighting level. Unlike Sirius, she's essentially a plot device and her character revolves around what's needed to move the story at tht moment. So if the plot required her to be better, she would be, but lily is portrayed as some sort of saint with a moral high ground, I have a hard time imagining her to be better
Remus imo doesn't even count. Thts not to say he wasn't skilled, but I don't think he can be compared with Sirius at all. A few months of inactivity cost him his life at the hands of dolohov, while Sirius still didn't hv a skill issue even after everything mentioned in the beginning.
Now Peter..... there's a lot of unexplored potential with peter. He's the most cunning of the lot, even Dumbledore didn't suspect him being a spy for a whole yr. But idk if that can attest to his combat skills. He frames Sirius and escapes because of sheer cunning and not skill( he draws his wand quicker than Sirius but Sirius had just lost james and realised tht his best friend, someone he would hv died for, was a traitor, so imo tht doesn't count). In general tho I don't see him as a combat guy, he seems to be more of a spy than a soldier

- when a mutual liked and reblogged my posts, then softblocked me and sent me anon hate all in the span of 5 minutes, while continuing to vaguepost about me where i could see (bc i wasnt blocked). all for associating with trans women.
- i made fun of an insane take while not including op's url. got an anon defending them n calling me a racist bc they recognized the user n theyre a poc. the take was a. batshit insane and un-defendable and b. wasnt abt racism
- got called a zionist over a post that started w the sentences 'zionism is bad and israel is a settler state'
- a random user who rb said post got a lengthy anon calling me a zionist settler who exaggerates historical antisemitism to make palestinians look bad (they did not read the post apparently). the post very much did not said that, and also included v real details from my own family history. said anon brought up facts about me from months old posts of mine, and also my ethnicity for some reason?
- got told i jack off to palestinians' suffering and occupation bc i said i write abt sexual violence in the context of war and occupation in my story. aforementioned story is set in fantasy romania btw. i am romanian. my romanian family suffered under war and occupation and genocide. in romania.

ANYWAYS in a high school!au setting i see a lot of ppl like to hc jungwon as class/stuco president, but i think he’s definitely more on the quiet side .. he’s popular, yes, but not too popular if that makes sense. for him, though, this is perfect ... he flies under the radar, and him missing school a couple days in a row every month or so goes virtually unnoticed. HOWEVER, you’ve always had a sneaking suspicion .. it’s not like you and won are Rivals—there would be no merit in picking an unnecessary fight with the boy who volunteers at the soup kitchen on the weekends and feeds the stray cats near the gym and asks the lunch ladies how their days are going—but, there’s something strange going on. you’re sure of it.
jungwon comes into school one day w a busted lip and a black eye. everyone is fawning over him, asking him what happened—did he get mugged, did his face hurt, did he give the other person a run for their money? you don’t bother checking in on him when he takes his seat next to you. you just hand him his calculus test (he did better than you again n it’s infuriating) and clench your jaw, willing yourself to disappear. that familiar, green monster hangs in the shadows behind you, and its breath fans across your neck as it attempts to coax a physical manifestation of jealously from your lips. eventually, you excuse yourself to the nurse’s office and skip the rest of the day.
later that night, you’re trying to study in your room, but you keep getting distracted by the daily bugle’s twitter updates. spiderman is out and about again, and they won’t let the poor guy’s good reputation rest. it’s all “spiderman fights villain and knocks over streetlight onto local man’s car” and “spiderman forgoes saving lady’s churro to destroy half of grand central station”—and, honestly, you feel a bit bad. he’s trying his best. but, as rain patters against your window, the sound threatens to lull you to sleep. exhaustion overtakes your body, your eyes are drooping, and your head keeps falling from your hands. and then BOOM—the loudest noise you’ve ever heard startles you from your fatigue-induced trance. with a look of fear in your eyes, you glance over your shoulder to look at the window and the sight that greets you is enough to freeze every molecule in your body.
the aforementioned hero is clinging to the side of your building, banging his fist on the glass and practically begging to be let in. his movements are frantic and a bit scary. you open the window as quick as you can and let him slide through the small gap you’ve created. there are copious tears in his suit, blood flows from a nasty gash on his shoulder. rushing around on some crude form of auto pilot, you grab a clean shirt from your closet and press it into his wound. you tell him to hold it there and instruct him to sit in your desk chair. he's sopping wet from head to toe, and all you manage to think about is how glad you are that your parents are away for the weekend.
eventually, after only almost vomiting once, the cut is clean and bandaged up. "you're so lucky that i've been trying to get rid of this shirt forever, mr. spiderman," you scoff as he perches on the sill of your window, preparing to swing away into the night. "if i had grabbed one of my favorite outfits, i would've killed you before that wound could have."
a giggle escapes from his lips, and for a moment, you find yourself taken aback. he sounds like a high schooler—young, lively, and everything but the twenty-something year old man you thought he would be. "sorry about that ... i'll have to swing by and drop off some laundry detergent one of these days," he laughs. his voice sounds so familiar, but your mind is still reeling from your recent discovery. the hero offers you a wave and gestures toward his previous seat. "sleep well—and, good luck on that calculus homework."
the next day at school, jungwon is nowhere to be seen. you thank whatever happens to reside in the sky that he can't see the bright red 67 at the top of your most recent calculus test. the next next day, however, jungwon comes in with his arm in a sling. as his seatmate, you're the one that has to help him out for the rest of the week. but, when you're sitting in free period, you happen to take another glance at the bandages around his shoulder as jungwon naps next to you. a sharp column of ice pierces through your lower abdomen; under jungwon's sling, the lowest layer of bandages are covered with dried blood and sweat.
they look eerily familiar. almost like the ones you used to patch spiderman up over the weekend.
but, jungwon couldn't be spiderman. he couldn't be—he's too sweet, too gentle, too kind. peeking over at his backpack, you note that it seems a bit bulkier today; a recognizable purple cap winks at you from the unzipped main pocket. a chill tickles the length of your spine as you register what happened to be resting against his class notebooks.

Swap Compton’s / “King of the Gulch” Story
( Written in 2023, first literature post based off a poll I did like. officially a month back. T’which thanks to the ppl who did vote for more writing stuff! )
As a man that loved animals dearly combined with his great understanding with them, he joined in on the Vet lifestyle. It was fun for a bit seeing all the different animals and getting the opportunity to help all of them! But one day on a work rush, it was extremely over the usual amount each day. And more so, overwhelming for Compton. The barking, the great amounts of concern people had for their pets, the faint yelling, and then—boom. All of it was gone!…almost all of it. And the reason for it wasn’t exactly good. The faces of concern immediately switched to anger and the faint yelling was almost louder, mixed with the sound of dialing phone numbers. It wasn’t long before Compton found himself locked up. in jail. For who knows how long honestly.
God, it felt like the entire world’s weight was on his shoulders. What kind of person would he be after he’d come out of this place? If anything he might do worse than the incident he committed before. And it certainly wasn’t like he’d knew anybody that could bail him out..it was a risky idea but it was extremely tempting. Late at night, he escaped jail making sure to leave no trace of evidence of his tracks. He stayed in in unkept places in the area he lived in and kept a low profile. Until discovering an underrated restaurant that was in dire need of a chef…They don’t know him. They don’t fear him at all. They aren’t aware of his past record and he had some good cooking knowledge in his hands…He applied. And if anything this was better than his job as vet. People were nicer and given that it was kept low, nearly nobody even recognized him! He eventually saved enough money from payment to go on vacation as well! By the time he came back, nobody recognized him either. He was no longer a famous criminal.
Not long after, a woman named Lucrecia recruited him for her research group full of powerful psychics. Out of anyone, Cassie and him became the closest of friends! Beekeeping, literature, helping each other out, they were almost inseparable! However someone none the wiser caught his eye. Otto Mentallis. Sure he was full of himself sometimes but it was slightly,,endearing in a way? Maybe even..charming. Cassie disliked him, but she was his best friend after all. Surely she wouldn’t think about him negatively over a small crush right? With this knowledge in the back of his head he’d tell her eventually. Meaning after several weeks of trying to hide it. Somewhat Surprisingly: she was very supportive for him after he opened up! Even offering to help him out when confessing. But that confession didn’t come up until it was followed by another few weeks of stalling and confidence building. He had to get it out somehow and honestly, any day now before his feelings were bottled up and tied into knots.
So one day in the lab on his occasional one-on-one research time with Otto, he expressed how he felt. Well muttering out a few mumbles at first before getting to the main point. But it checked out given: Otto felt the Same way! They started dating a few moments afterwards. And those moments soon turned into weeks, into months, and into years. By the time they even knew it, Bob and Helmut were getting engaged! It took a while for them to arrive due to prepping the most out of everybody but what matters is they were there with all of their friends. It was beautiful.

Bob and Helmut are gone. Lucy’s lost herself—mentally. Cassie feels demotivated, all while Otto’s in a sense of denial during the opening. Sure the attention and popularity was nice in a sense but it didn’t feel…right. At all. Especially with the current situation at task. He tried to reach out to Lucy, but she immediately shunned him off. He tried beekeeping with Cassie again which helped, but only for a little while. Otto stated that he’s fine multiple times during check-in’s but it is very much clear that there was something much, much more than that underneath. It eventually lead to them splitting apart mutually. He still loved his partner dearly but he just..couldn’t stand seeing him being in denial like this.
Overtime the more he repressed his truest emotions during missions, it built up. But in a different way. Something that felt almost..physical. Mainly on his temple, but he tried to brush it off as something that’ll go anyway with rest but it increasingly got more painful because of his repressing. Once again—Boom. This time harming himself on the left side of his face. It took several days to recover properly but that might as well been his final straw. The night he was able to get back on his feet was the night he had reluctantly left to the forest. It turned into nightly beekeeping alone and interacting with friendly animals every now and then, but the animals slowly grew into crowds.
Because of his understanding with them, they were more so mad about the fact he wasn’t the owner of the gulch due to how well he treated them. But they slowly grew out of control with this ideal concept, leaving Compton with no choice in the matter. He had tend to them. He was in the deepest part of the forest where it’d probably take ages to get out and back and his vision wasn’t the best with one eye working but the other being blind. So until further notice, he’d protect this place. It’s sacred for him and his “subjects”. He now earns the title: King of the Gulch. Legend says if you manage to get in his animal kingdom, you’ll never get out.

but — 'you're sure you've got it?'
you fight back the urge to sigh because ava's eyes are big and earnest and you're reminded of when they were nineteen, and terrified, and so so brave. 'yes, ava. we'll be fine in the brief amount of time you're gone.'
ava nods, more to reassure herself than you;.she's just going to get groceries — a task you had bullied her into, mostly to get her out of the house for a brief moment — and beatrice has mostly slept on and off this past week. it's a joyful time, so deeply, but you know also that seeing beatrice in pain, even for the best reason, is hard for ava. perhaps, you admit, hard for all of you.
but beatrice smiles when ava kisses her forehead, pausing the season of some reality tv show she and lilith appear to be quite invested in that, reluctantly, you have watched enough of at this point to follow along with something slightly more than disinterest. she smiles still when you sit down next to her on their big couch in their sundrenched living room, and you feel peace settle in your soul the way you really only do when you see your children happy.
'okay,' ava says from the door leading to the garage, 'text me if anything happens.'
beatrice rolls her eyes, the soft smile still on her face. 'just make sure to get the proper chocolate.'
'that was one time.'
beatrice laughs. 'bye, ava.'
'love you.'
'i love you too,' beatrice says, then turns to you when ava closes the door softly.
'you are feeling okay, right? i've known you for too long for you to lie to me.'
beatrice touches your wrist gently, in some kind of thanks. 'i'm feeling good. sore, but they took my drains out yesterday so i finally got to shower.'
'well i came at the perfect time, then.'
beatrice huffs a laugh. she shifts a little, sitting up more, and there are freckles all along her shoulders, muscles toned and visible without a shirt on, a blanket over her legs. 'i — uh, i have to let my skin breathe for a few minutes, is it —' her brow furrows — 'is it okay?'
you have known her for so long, seen and still do see so much of yourself in her, and so you understand. 'of course it's okay, beatrice.'
she nods, just once, and then reaches to undo the tight surgical binder. you had read all about top surgery diligently after she had told you — with a nervousness in her voice that had made you ache — that she had a date scheduled for her procedure, even asked one of jillian's surgeon friends to explain the details. you know the expect the bandages over her regrafted nipples, the stretch of the new scars across her chest. there's old scars along her abdomen, but these are different: these are imbued with joy, and care, and a becoming that is so quietly holy you feel blessed to witness it. the deep breath she takes in, the way her shoulders relax and she smiles when she looks down at her chest — it is all you have ever wanted for any of your children.
she looks over at you, a little shaky, a little unsure, and so you offer her what you know she needs, after so many years. 'these were the results you were hoping for, yes?'
she swallows, but it's still impossible for her smile to fully slip. 'beyond what i had hoped for, honestly. it's hard — it was hard to imagine, just how much better i would feel.'
'i'm quite happy for you.'
her smile grows — less shy, more certain — but then her brow furrows in a way you recognize by now that means she's been sitting on something for a while. 'are you — are you ever disappointed?' she pauses, then clarifies quietly, 'in me?'
when beatrice was recruited to the order years and years ago, you recognized quickly that she would be more than fit to run it in your stead. she always had been: brilliant, organized, kinder than you could ever hope for. generous. forgiving. devout. she hasn't changed at all, only grown brighter in her faithfulness.
'i am so proud of you, beatrice. profoundly.'
beatrice sniffles, and you turn toward her fully.
'you have been a beacon for god's love the entire time you have known you, through a great deal of pain. i'm proud of you for finally starting to give that love to yourself.'
as you expected, she does start to cry; it's not uncommon even though she still tries to pretend it's a rare occurrence.
'i'm deeply sorry if i have ever made you to feel that way, especially after you renounced your vows.' you worked with her to bring ava back; you won a war; you walked her down the aisle. 'i am in awe of who you have become, beyond what i ever could have hoped for you.' you look pointedly to her chest, flat and tender and, in the ways you have learned matter most, beautiful.
she wipes tears and then huffs a laugh. 'you haven't,' she says, 'made me feel like that. not since i was brand new at the order and couldn't properly shoot a pistol, at least.'
you laugh fondly, remembering how horrible a shot she had first been, too tightly wound to breathe through the kick properly.
'i've just been in my head, a little. it happens when i'm high.'
you raise a brow, just for fun, and she seems to realize what she's said, blanching.
'not that i've ever been high, ever, other than, you know, pain medicine after surgery or injuries. not once, not one single time.'
'it's still a sin to lie. you know that, right?'
beatrice eventually laughs, happily. 'ava's not particularly subtle, is he?'
'neither is the smell of weed.'
she laughs even harder.
'i wasn't always a nun.'
she calms, quiets. 'thank you, for being a really wonderful mother.'
it fills your chest unlike anything else — ava and their halo; mary and lilith finding their way back home; your new girls getting to train in peace — and you squeeze her hand. 'thank you for being a really wonderful daughter.'
she nods, another layer of peace settling against her skin. when it comes time, a few minutes later, for her to have to put her surgical binder back on, you help with gentle hands.

The whole “Buddie buildup for seasons!” thing is so funny to me as someone who’s been watching from the start. The very moment Eddie appeared in the first ep of season 2 and talked to Buck (which was pretty charged and slightly negative) people started shipping them and demanding for them to get together based on chemistry alone, with no build up or backstory. It obviously continued as the show went on and more moments happened but as someone who shipped them back then they actually made MORE sense when the ship and chemistry was fresh imo, in seasons 2 and 3, and no one debated it as then. Now that Tommy appeared now suddenly it’s all “3939 seasons of buildup!”. Especially weird when there were some seasons where there was negative buildup for Buddie. Again, I used to ship them so it’s not like I’m against the idea but saying Buddie makes more sense than BuckTommy only because of madeup is BS.

I actually came into the show with buddie goggles on. I think my first episode live was 4x4? It was either Future Tense or the episode RIGHT after Future Tense, idr which but I had a mutual or someone I followed on twitter who was really into the show & would share ppl's edits. Now I knew they weren't canon & even then I didn't need them to be (i like a good "queerbait" as the kids call it, tho i have arguments for what actually constitutes queerbait. I simply call it "shippable"). But as someone who went in knowing about their ship, I looked at EVERYTHING with those goggles on. So yeah I shipped them hardcore for those seasons. Then s6 happened and I packed my bags on that ship to ever actually happen in canon and resolved to watch the show a bit more casually season 7 onwards (and I would've done too had I not heard the rumors about bi Buck!! haha)
But I did start rewatching the series through the reactions of someone who did not have those goggles on a few months ago and it really shed some light on certain things. All that is to say, I do agree with you. If it was something that was ever gonna be done, during s2 & 3 makes the most sense. I think ppl forget that fanon is not the same as canon & things that work in fanfiction do not work in the actual canon world of the show. Now that Buck is bisexual, I do fully believe & adopt the headcanon that he had feelings for Eddie early on & just didn't realize it, but they developed fully into friendship.
I don't think they're going to make Eddie canonically queer too. I just don't. I'm not sure why I ever thought they might give both coming out stories (maybe it's because I watch a lot of Asian BL). Unfortunately, that is just not how network television works in America. The fact they made Buck queer 7 seasons in is already HUGE. I'm not gonna hang my hopes on what's probably an impossibility when I have this beautiful canon queer storyline happening on my screen already & I genuinely like Tommy & think he's the perfect LI for Buck.
I think here is what people need to realize too. Once again fanon =/= canon. There are no so many years of build-up. Unless and until they make buddie canon, those years of build-up do not exist because, currently, they're not trying to build anything up. Tim has said they aren't currently planning it, Ryan again and again has said how much Buck & Eddie's friendship means to him to see on television because you don't see male friendships portrayed that way (and you don't! especially not friendships between 2 "macho" men both in their 30s, 1 of whom is canonically queer. This too is an important storyline to tell).
People watch this show with buddie goggles feeling like they're owed these 2 to get together but that just isn't the case. Tim will tell the story he wants to tell & ppl viewing are signing up to watch THAT show. If you don't like that show, stick to fanon because that's something you can control.
And, one day, if they do decide to go in that direction (and I'm firmly in the camp they're not going to & if they do it's gonna be in the final season, but I truly think ABC wants 911 to be another Grey's Anatomy; something that can go on for 20 seasons so who even knows if these actors will want to stick around that long) it's not going to be the story of Buck & Eddie realizing they've had feelings for each other all this time. They won't be able to convince the GA of that. It'll be them falling in love for the first time on screen. But first they need to convince the GA that Eddie is whatever brand of queer they decide on (it's not going to be gay, I will say that right now. As much as I understand why people headcanon him as such & even agreed for a long time, that is not the reality within the show's canon. The show is not trying to lie to people about Eddie enjoying sex with women, they would make it more obvious for the people who don't sit online analyzing if that were the case. Personally I've started reading Eddie as aromantic but I know most ppl here would never be cool with that since it puts a damper on buddie too).
If people want to continue living in a delusional world where these things will for sure happen, then that's on them and is their right. Have fun with it! Fandom belongs to the fans. You can do anything here. But to get upset and angry because other fans might not agree, or the people in charge of the show don't go the direction you want? Well that's just silly. We are viewers (& also writers can NOT use the things fans say. They could get in serious trouble for that). You can be active in a fandom space, but at the end of the day, being a viewer is a passive job. The writers write the show, then they film it and put it out to the world & a viewer views it & enjoys the art that these hundreds upon thousands of people created.
And, also, there's a lot more passive viewers than there are active members of fandom. And people forget that. If every single hardcore shipper stopped watching right now, the views would hardly dip. They won't lose anything just because they decide not to make fandom's favorite ship canon.

listen I love Feyre to my very core, she's my favorite FMC since I read these books and in this entire series but god she's such busybody sometimes and tries to be an expert matchmaker like Rhys but honey... no!
like that time she suggested about Az and Elain in acowar and Rhys was like "Feyre, I love you but shut up this is not in your league" thats what I gathered from Rhys reply lmao
GIRL YOU LITERALLY KNOW THESE PPL FOR A FEW MONTHS HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY NEED AND WHAT IS GOING ON INSIDE THEIR HEAD? I'm quite certain she just wanted it to keep it in the family at that point bc did she forgot Azriel is "in love" with Mor before she suggested that? and Rhys had to aggressively shut that idea down lol. tbh I love that Rhys stopped her right then and there bc obv he knows him better than Feyre. they've known each other for +500 so ofc he can guess Az feeling on the matter and Az himself confirmed it in the bonus chapter (that Rhys also suspected) Az only wants Elain for release and nothing else.
and now her comment on them lead to her being the biggest e/riel shipper and e/riels LOVE to brag about it and its quite funny bc I think it was only that one time!!! we see Feyre encouraging Elain to talk to Lucien and even in her bonus chapter in acosf she wanted to suggest Elain to use Lucien's gloves that he gifted her but she didn't (which i hope she'd learned to not be a busybody after what happened with Lucien in acofas and Mor lecturing her to let them figure it out themselves)
After getting this message I didn't respond right away. I wanted to think back over the series because you are 100% correct but your correctness is even more far reaching.
In ACOMAF we have the following:
Feyre thinking that the reason Lucien had issues with Ianthe because she and her family fled during Amarantha's reign.
The actual reason Lucien had issues with Ianthe is because she sexually harassed him.
In ACOMAF, we have Feyre think Ianthe is her friend.
Later we find out that Ianthe was only ever self serving.
In ACOMAF Feyre kept wondering if a mating bond with Tamlin would snap into place.
The reason that didn't happen was because Rhys was her mate yet she was clueless about that until the Suriel told her.
In ACOMAF we have Feyre think about how Nesta and Amren would be fast friends.
In ACOWAR, Nesta and Amren were fast friends but not LASTING friends. Their friendship fell apart in ACOFAS and it never really recovered. I think they're in a better place after SF but they'll most likely never be as close as Nesta is with Gwyn and Emerie.
In ACOMAF, Feyre mentions how she sometimes notices Mor watching Az. She also asks Mor what she feels for Az which Mor deflects only for Feyre to then think, "but almost in answer, Mor declared, "Paint Azriel's. Next to mine".
Only that all fell apart in ACOWAR when Mor's preference came to light, something Feyre never suspected.
In ACOMAF, Feyre thinks how Az and Cassian could wipe Lucien off the planet.
But in ACOSF, we see Lucien command Cassian with a single word.
In ACOMAF, Feyre does say Elain would cling to Az to have some peace and quiet and how handsome they would be.
And in ACOWAR, we do see Elain and Az sharing moments of peace and quiet however, that seems to rapidly be falling apart in SF. Feyre once wanted peace and quiet too and at first she was happy with Tamlin until the peace and quiet no longer suited her. Similarly, we see Elain want to finally break free of her peace and quiet and Az is the person (after Nesta) who wants to keep her in her box of safety. He even spoke out against her AFTER Elain told Nesta off so it's doubly as problematic. Also, Feyre thinking of Elain and Az being together because of their physical appearance is the most superficial thing. It speaks nothing of their personalities or what they want from a partner, what their values are. Not to mention it reduces Elain to a "doll to dress up" or whose only worth is her beauty, just as their mother always did.
In ACOWAR, Feyre worries whether they can trust Lucien. Whether he would try to grab Elain, to sell them out.
Her fears are proven unfounded when she slips into Lucien's mind and realized he only has concern for Elain. Also Lucien regularly helps out the NC, sharing information with them, the opposite of selling them out.
In ACOWAR, Feyre questions why Lucien and Elain are mates without putting any consideration into who they are and what they want in a partner. She asks RHYS if HER SISTER is a match to Lucien 🤦. Her entire argument is based on the fact that Rhys and Tamlin's parents weren't a match for one another so maybe Elain and Lucien's is poor match too. Even though the reason Rhys tells us for WHY his parents weren't a match would not apply to Lucien and Elain and WOULD actually apply to Az and Elain.
Feyre is young and she doesn't always the see others clearly but that's ok because she's learning as she goes. She's asking these questions because this entire world is new to her and the why and the how's of it are something she's trying to figure out.
But anyone taking her thoughts as gospel as she's stumbling through it all is looking to the wrong person for predictions.
Feyre (in the original trilogy), Nesta (for the first 3/4 of her book) and Az (even now), for as great as they are, were /are not the characters to look too for clearheaded opinions because they are too close to certain situations, too emotional and too wrapped up in their own confusion about everything to be valid resources. Feyre and Nesta especially were all over the place. For example one minute Nesta was going on and on about how Elain is good and special and that's why Nesta protected her at all costs, and the next Nesta is furious with Elain, claiming she was "undoubtedly wholly convinced of her own innocence, her innate goodness" and mad at Cassian for defending Elain.
So again, I think much of what those three say / think in regards to Elain, Lucien, and Az needs to be taken with a grain of salt
Cassian was the one who predicted Nessmerie and guess what? They ended up being as close as sisters.
Rhys was the one who said that he might need to pull some threads in regards to Nessian and guess what? They were mated in the very next book.
Mor predicted that Lucien was trustworthy enough to enter Velaris and guess what? He didn't steal Elain away and he never sold out Velaris to anyone and helped provide information to the NC about Autumn.
We have Cassian telling us that Nesta was wrong about Elain being loyal like a dog, Rhys admit that maybe Elain behaves in certain ways because of the way the sisters treat her, we have Rhys and Mor tell Feyre to stay out of things with her meddling. We have Amren tell Az he's wrong about Elain. We have Rhys express genuine concern over the way Az spoke of Elain. These are characters who are a few steps away from it all and able to think more rationally because they aren't as personally invested in what happens. Feyre feels guilty for her sisters being made so she was desperate to throw Elain in any direction she thought might snap her out of her depression (except giving her a real chance to interact with her mate). Nesta and Az have / had too much of their own self loathing to see anything clearly. But in my opinion, Cassian, Mor, Rhys and Amren are the voices of reason when it comes to what's going on with Elucien and E/riel.

Not the same Anon but some things I wished he had addressed considering he said he was gonna cover everything:
-Past Racism (KKK edit, the Native American tweet) it’s honestly extremely strange to me that these weren’t covered in his video considering they were pretty big controversies
-That one tweet about doxing, he talks about how he said getting doxed as someone without a following and how he shouldn’t have said that which is good but doesn’t talk about the tweet where he says he gets satisfaction in watching other ppl private their twitter. I personally think that tweet is way more damning because “it’s less bad for ppl who don’t have a following to get doxed” is way easier to just pass off as a badly worded opinion then “I like it when people who criticize me are so badly harassed by fans that they have to private their twitter” is
-Talks about how doxing is bad and ppl r parasocial but doesn’t openly acknowledge the multiple times his fandom has gotten ppl doxed, such as quote retweeting a minor who didn’t like his plushie and causing them to get harassed of the internet. Yes he acknowledges doxing is bad, but I think this could’ve been a very good moment for him to look at a specific situation where his fans reacted FOR HIM and say “this was bad don’t do this” which I think would be far more effective than a general “doxing is bad”. He could also acknowledge his part in getting this person harassed because he absolutely did not need to quote retweet them to a fandom that is known for doxing. No dream is not responsible for his fans doxing ppl, some fans will do it even if he condemns it that’s not his fault, BUT refusing to acknowledge the reality that there is an vocal part of his community that does this this and therefore just calling out other ppl without critically thinking abt how his fan base will react to it is harmful.
-His fans age, we all know who dreams primary audience is and it’s primarily teenagers, I’m not saying no adults watch him or that he needs to cater to children when he doesn’t want to, but I think it’s incredibly stupid to act like his audience isn’t consisted largely of that demographic. Everyone lies on YouTube age, when I was 7 my age for my YouTube was 21. I just think it’s a weird point to focus on when it’s very much not true.
-the “I love miners” joke in the middle of his grooming allegations that literally happened like a month ago and proves that in the some vain of blaming his (alleged) victims of not taking SA/ grooming seriously that he is ALSO not treating the situation with the gravity it deserves.
-Liking negative tweets about other creators (Tommy and quackity). I know he confirmed there’s another person running one of his fanart account (I don’t know if these r the same accounts, sorry) but either way I think it’s irresponsibly to either 1. Be publicly liking things that shame other creators and create more vitriol and hatred between fan bases or 2. Not tell this girl to stop liking that stuff?? I think after repeatedly seeing her like stuff that either encourages shipping or hatred towards other ccs he should have set some rules with her about what she could like if he didn’t agree with what she was liking.
-The 24 page document, I just wish he’d gone more in depth with document other than looking at one part going “it’s not true!” And then moving on. I think it would’ve been so much better just to actually go through and debunk the whole thing if he was able to.
-The weird sexual “jokes” made towards minors such as Tommy and Tubbo’s little sister. Yes they were “just jokes” and they don’t make him a groomer or a pedo, but a lot of them are superrrr uncomfy. The one abt Lani especially makes me uncomfortable, sexual jokes made towards you pretty much always suck, and I don’t think this makes him irredeemable but he should at least acknowledge how gross and uncomfortable this kind of humor is and try not to repeat it. If you aren’t aware of these jokes there’s a video by technoinnit on YouTube called proof/clips of dream making sexual jokes abt minors that I recommend watching
Yes he has addressed a lot of these before not in the video, but like he’s addressed everything else in the video before too?? In my personal opinion dream really focused on the stuff that I feel is easier to make himself look good for or just apologize for in general. Sorry if this is long I just wanted to address why each of the things he left out felt harmful to his argument because while I feel like a lot of the hate towards dream is often way too much or uncritical there are things that are important to criticize him for and ppl are acting like this video has absolved him of all his misdeeds or whatever when I very much feel that a lot of his video is less of an “apology” or and acknowledgement of his own faults then a “yes I guess I’ve messed up a little bit but look at how hard my life is and that’s why I acted that way” (not saying that the stuff he and his family have gone through isn’t bad, but the doesn’t excuse all his behaviors)

Brief impressions:
-Making sexual jokes w friends is vibes, but there's deffo a breach of normality if you're making jokes to minors (Dream making jokes to Tommy n Tubbo u said?) And omfg, jokes at Lani? Wild as hell, esp when i can pretty firmly assume they wuldnt b close AT ALL, that's j blatantly uncomfortable regardless of all other circumstances which make it seriously fucking disturbing
-Yeah, the way the Dream fandom can dox is crazy. It's some serious skill but used in such a vitriol way (did i use the word correctly, here?) It does feel a wee bit hypcocritical if he's saying doxxing is bad and then posting the @'s of Tweets from Anti-Dreamers without blurring the person's username, considering i feel like in that scenario he's sort of opening the table to online harrassment n possibly doxxing if shit really hit teh roof....
-Liking negative tweets ab other creators is so SNAKY! Idk if any Dream followers know Locked In/Footasylum, but guy called "Nightscape" on YouTube did this after going on Footasylum's reality show "Locked In" and got absolutely blasted for being "snaky" and "backstabbing"... And tbf, i think it's quite clear there's not much friendship between Dream n Tommy anymore, but ya gotta have some class or even just basic dignity to not do this shit...
