Me, internally: This sounds like a multi-level marketing scheme.

Towards the end of Summer 2022 BYOC Films were delighted to produce this film on Amway seller Abigail for our friends at Hoozens Creative Agency in the USA. I was the DoP on this and co-produced the filming with director Louise Morton Murray. We had a great couple of days shooting with Abigail and her wonderful family as she pursues her dream of success and financial independence, after leaving her NHS career behind.

Is Amway or Confederated Products a good way to generate passive income?  I am thinking about getting into the business.
Is Amway or Confederated Products a good way to generate passive income?  I am thinking about getting into the business.
Good question. Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel made a pact in high school to become business entrepreneurs together. They started a flying school and opened a drive-in restaurant. Eventually, from the basements of their homes, they founded Amway in 1959, building their success on the desire to make other people successful. Confederated Products is a company which specializes in the use of…

BOYCOTTING FOR PALESTINE
The Official BDS Boycott Targets
Events:
EUROVISION. IT IS IN OUR TOP PRIORITY TO BOYCOTT EUROVISION
Giro d’Italia and Tour de France (these are past campaigns as the events have finished)
Tumblr media
Consumer Boycotts - a complete boycott of these brands
Disney (SPECIFICALLY MARVEL)
Intel
Axa
Puma
Carrefour
HP
Cevron
Caltex
Israeli produce
Re/max
Ahava
Texaco
Siemens
Sodastream
Intel
Organic Boycott Targets - boycotts not initiated by BDS but still complete boycott of these brands
Macdonald's
Dominos
Papa Johns
Burger King
Pizza Hut
Wix
Divestments and exclusion - pressure governments, institutions, investment funds, city councils, etc. to exclude from procurement contracts and investments and to divest from these
Elbit Systems
CAF
Volvo
CAT
Barclays
JCB
HD Hyundai
TKH Security
HikVision
Pressure - boycotts when reasonable alternatives exist, as well as lobbying, peaceful disruptions, and social media pressure.
Google
Amazon
AirBnb
Booking.Com
Expedia
Teva
Here are some companies that strongly support Israel (but are not Boycott targets). There is no ethical consumption under capitalism and boycotting is a political strategy - not a moral one. If you did try to boycott every supporter of Israel you would struggle to survive because every major company supports Israel (as a result of attempting to keep the US economy afloat), that being said, the ones that are being boycotted by masses and not already on the organic boycott list are coloured red.

Kayla Braxton stared at the latest update from an Instagram page called TheUsos_Source.  She honestly couldn’t believe what she was reading. Josh took Airielle on a date? Airielle had willingly gone out on a date with Josh after everything Kayla had told her?
Kayla went to Airielle’s instagram and clicked on her story, immediately feeling sick once she saw the flowers Airielle had posted. So just fuck girl code right? Kayla gritted her teeth as she rolled her eyes and threw her phone down on the bed next to her.

Airielle was on cloud nine. It had been 18 days since her first kiss with Josh while they weren’t officially boyfriend and girlfriend yet, they sure did act like it. No matter where they went, he always made sure to bring her flowers, whether they were going to the gym together or to the grocery store, he always bought flowers. She hung out with him at Trin and Jon’s house when they weren’t in Orlando for Smackdown- much to Yasmine’s dismay. He had wanted to spend Thanksgiving together but she declined. She was not ready to meet his family. She had thought that he was upset but he told her he understood and that she definitely had to come to Christmas dinner.
Tumblr media
Airielle groaned as she hit another dead end in the arena. The WWE had moved from the Amway center to Tropicana Field and Airielle was having a hard time finding her way, she kept getting turned around. Josh had asked her to meet him in catering for lunch but she was lost. She pulled out her phone to text him. He told her to send him her location and he would come find her. She huffed as she jumped up on one of the nearby equipment boxes and pulled out her phone so she could scroll on instagram.
“Hi.” She jumped startled by the voice. “I aint mean to scare you.” He said smiling before holding out his hand to her. “I’m Raymond. I don’t think we’ve met.” When she didn’t shake his hand he added “I work in production, that’s probably why you never seen me before. I’m normally out in the truck.” Airielle nodded before grasping his hand and shaking it.
“Airielle Jones.”
“I know who you are. Talk of the town.” She frowned and arched her eyebrow at him.
“Excuse me? He looked down at their still connected hands and grinned as she snatched her hand out of his.
“Yo Rih, you good?” Airielle smiled over at Josh and hopped off the equipment box and walked over to him. Raymond noticed Josh’s hostile tone and raised his hands up defensively.
“Relax, homie. I was just introducing myself.” Josh bit the inside of his cheek as he glared over at Raymond. He 100 percent didn’t like this man and Raymond knew that. Airielle glazed between the two of them before grabbing Josh’s hand, breaking their staring contest.
“You good?” He asked again, his eyes softening once his gaze fell on her.
“She good Uce, relax.” Josh glared back over at Raymond and sucked his teeth.
“The fuck you still doin’ here?”  Raymond chuckled before, turning and walking away from them. When Josh turned his attention back to Airielle she was looking at him with a disappointed expression. “Sorry” he said sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. “I don’t like him, never did”
Airielle rolled her eyes with a grin. “Come on,” She said, grabbing his hand again. She started to walk but then stopped and turned towards him. “I don’t know where I’m going.” He laughed before leading her towards catering.
Tumblr media
After eating lunch with Josh and Joe, Airielle decided to go to hair and make-up to get ready for Smackdown. She smiled at Kayla who was also getting her makeup done. The smile quickly vanished off of her face when Kayla glared back at her. Airielle knew that Kayla must’ve seen the instagram posts. But honestly, Airielle didn’t care, Josh and even Kayla herself had said that they weren’t dating, just fucking around, so technically Kayla had no reason to be upset with Airielle.
The air was tense and Kayla’s muttering wasn’t making it any better. Airielle couldn’t hear her but with how Jenny- the hairstylist kept looking at her, Airielle knew Kayla was talking mad shit. Once Kayla had left the area, Jenny turned towards Airielle.
“What the hell happened?” Airielle shook her head, not wanting to gossip.
“I don’t know.” Jenny scoffed.
“I mean, we all seen the instagram account. You do know Kayla and Jey were a thing before you got here?”  Airielle took a deep breath and closed her eyes, this Jenny chick was starting to get on her nerves.
“They both said that it was just sex between them.” Airielle shrugged, she felt like she did nothing wrong by going out on a date with Josh.
“And you don’t feel bad?” Jenny scoffed again and Airielle narrowed her eyes at her.
“Leave the girl alone Jen, ” Laura, the make-up artist said and Airielle gave her a small smile thinking that the older woman was on her side. “She’s young and he probably tricked her.” Airielle abruptly stood up from the chair and walked off, officially done with those ladies and that conversation.
Tumblr media
“Fuck her” Yasmine spat over the Facetime call. “That bitch lucky I aint there.” Yasmine continued. Airielle sighed but said nothing. That interaction had rubbed her the wrong way and she needed someone to talk to. She wanted to talk to Josh but she knew that he was busy getting ready for the show and she didn’t want to burden him with unnecessary drama.
“You can’t fight my coworkers.” Airielle said laughing lightly. “I mean should I feel bad?” Yasmine immediately shook her head.
“No, and I mean it, don’t go back in there trying to be her friend Airielle. She’s weird as hell.” Airielle signed and tol Yasmine that she would call her back as she was driving back to Pensacola after the show.
Walking back into the arena, Airielle felt like everyone was staring at her, it was weird she walked past a group of girls and they immediately stopped talking, letting Airielle know they were talking about her. Rolling her eyes she went about her business, getting her script for her segment with Kevin Owens, as she was walking towards the viewing area to watch the beginning of the show, Airielle literally bumped right into Kayla,  the latter of the two rolling her eyes and grunting in annoyance.  Airielle quickly apologized before trying to walk around her but Kayla moved in the same direction she did.
“I trusted you.” Kayla said and Airielle furrowed her eyebrows together.
“What?”  Kayla rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest.
“You used me to get close to Jey, I told you how i felt about him and you just said fuck me.” Airielle scoffed.
“No, I did not use you to get close to Josh. I would never do anything like that Kayla. You said y’all weren’t together. Yes, I do feel bad but, things happen, we hung out and I really like him Kayla, I’m sorry.” Kayla huffed and narrowed her eyes at Airielle before shaking her head and walking away.

Where it all began
I started out making jewelry in 2015 as a hobby while I was on my first deployment in the United States Navy. Soon after returning home I made a couple pieces for close friends and family but never thought about making a business out of it. In fact, I tried a few multi-level marketing (I guess that's what they are called) Itworks, BeachBody, Amway, basically a few things where you sell products and try to get others to sign up to sell products "with" you. BOO! Not a fan. I wanted to run a business but I felt no passion for the products of services. The only thing I was proud of was things I made myself.  Fast forwarding a few years, (a lot happened but this is the summary). I was still in the Navy and it was taking up ALL OF MY TIME but I managed to fall in love <3 and get married in 2021. I decided to leave the Navy in 2022 to start a family and pursue something I was passionate about, but the only PROBLEM was it had been YEARS since I had really been creative or had a creative space to work in. But we just bought a house so space wasn't the issue anymore.  I had to take some time to "re-discover" myself, which any veteran can tell you after they separate from the service, you sort of forget a lot about yourself when you assimilate into the military because individuality really isn't a thing (no regrets though). I worked as a contractor for the Navy from March 2022 - Nov 2023 but decided to step away from that with the help of my supportive hubby :) I really needed to get my own identity back. I did some spring (REALLY FALL) cleaning, which led me to breaking out the cases of jewelry making supplies that were long forgotten in storage. It brought back some wonderful emotions! And that's when I remembered how much I enjoyed making things with my hands and coming up with creative designs.  And just like that, I got bit by the creative bug and I couldn't be happier about it. I began creating pieces like a mad woman and now with the confidence (thanks Navy) that I COULD DO THIS FOR A LIVING!! MAKING THINGS! AND BEING HAPPY DOING IT! So that is what I am doing. Making things whether by hand or designing in the digital space (which I have also been really enjoying). I have sold my pieces at several markets and pop-up locations since December 2023 and I am still deciding what I want to go back to school for (Also HUGE THANK YOU NAVY) but I am leaning toward graphic design and business. I am in the middle of building my web-site for my online Gift Shop (cuz Mamas got plans) which will be coming SOON. I have been making moves like mad...tripping, stumbling and blundering my way through Etsy and social media. But it is all for a greater goal and that is to build a successful business that I can run from my home while I raise our future children. And lastly that brings me to tell you about the name "Eudaimond". It's a name I made from the word Eudaimonia, which translates to happiness, or more accurately "human flourishing". This resonated deeply with me and it became the name of my business. It represents my current journey for a happy and purposeful life. When you shop with Eudaimond, you shop with a purpose. Whether it's a gift for others or yourself, the act is intentional and your time is important. And I want to provide intentional products worth that time.  Thanks for being here.

Please share everything you know about MLMs I love learning things
Thank you for asking! I’ll start with a TL:DR for everyone: Never join an MLM. Over 99% of participants LOSE money (and time! And friends!).
A Multi-Level Marketing Company (MLM), also sometimes called Direct Selling, is essentially a barely-legal pyramid scheme. Sales reps can either make money by selling a product or by recruitment of new sales reps.
MLMs make money off of people joining the MLM, even if those sales reps never sell anything, because the sales reps have to buy the product from the company before they can re-sell it. Therefore, they focus a LOT on recruitment (pyramid scheme).
Some famous MLMs you may have heard of:  Amway, Mary Kay, Herbalife, Avon
We can prove the 99% Lose Money number pretty easily. If you are to only learn one fact to teach others, then look up Amway (the biggest MLM)’s Income Disclosure statement, which they publish themselves, on their own website. Screencap below:
Tumblr media
This is PRE-business expenses that sales reps pay out of pocket, and still the average annual GROSS income made by the TOP 10% of the company is LESS than minimum wage. After expenses, you can see yourself how almost everybody loses money. (The money people lose goes to the ppl at the VERY top of the company; it’s not like when a normal small business fails.)
Below the cut is a lot more info, although not close to all I have collected.
Screencap summary of Amway's Income Disclosure:
Half of the TOP 1% made less than 55K pre-expense; studies show even they generally LOST money, or made very very little after expense (the top 0.5% actually makes any money, and the 0.05% make a LOT of money)
The TOP 10% earns, on average, LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE ($15K), with less than half of the TOP 10% making over $4.6K PRE-EXPENSES
Less than half of the TOP 50% makes more than $631 A YEAR. PRE-EXPENSE.
(Also, they cut the bottom 1/3 out entirely, so the 50% referenced is 50% OF the top 2/3. I’m actually OK with this, as long as it’s acknowledged, for better reporting. The bottom 1/3 were “inactive” and possibly not trying to participate in sales. The top 2/3 still sucks.)
I made a very sloppy visual to restate the data, in case it helps anyone:
Tumblr media
-
Another example is the Mary Kay public income disclosure [for Canada] (another very popular MLM).
Tumblr media
Again, pre-expense, though also pre-retail sales (more in paragraph below)
The top 0.05%(!) makes average commissions of $124K
The level below that, Independent Sales Director, only 1.7% of the company, makes less than Canadian Minimum wage in commissions
98% of the company, very clearly, makes anywhere from $0 per year, to at most an average of $206 DOLLARS A YEAR (pre-expense, pre-sale)
Mary Kay works a little differently than Amway, where once you purchase a product, MK truly does not know or care what happens to it at all. If all of these people actually sold all the products they bought, it’s possible they made supplemental income, but data shows that most LOSE money on actual sales.
Let’s focus on Mary Kay for a moment, because their structure means the ONLY money the company ever receives was given to them BY their sales reps. So they’re easy to follow.
-
Why do sales reps lose money on sales?
The market is oversaturated. They have 3.5 MILLION reps trying to sell the same product* - meaning they either can’t sell, or they have to greatly discount the product
Many MLM products are more expensive than the same product elsewhere
They constantly refresh their line of products, so the inventory reps already have is now worth less and harder to sell
Sales reps must buy a minimum amount of new product each month to keep certain perks, even if they haven’t yet sold their old product (min $225, with much higher amounts sometimes necessary to keep status)
*What makes MLMs legal (thanks to lobbying, mostly) is that they HAVE a product, which sales reps buy from the company. I’m careful not to call these people employees, as they are technically independent consultants, and thus don’t receive employee benefits... like a guaranteed income, or healthcare, or anything. If you google “Mary Kay employees”, you will find data on their ACTUAL employees, who do actually make money. This is clearly not the case for their sales reps (table above). Mary Kay has about 5K ACTUAL employees, and 3.5 MILLION sales reps.
-
So how do sales reps make ANY commissions?
If you convince people to join Mary Kay, MK will give you a cut (commission) of what they spend at the company on product
Since this is the main way to make money, reps are incentivized to recruit as much as possible
They are also incentivized to LIE about how much money they’re making, so people will stay with the company. I’ve read stories of reps renting a fancy car from time to time to convince the people below them that they’re making money
Clearly, thanks to the income disclosure, we can see that they aren't making much money on commissions, either
-
How are sales reps buying more product if they lose money being in an MLM?
Reps are encouraged to dip into their savings, with the promise of a greater payout later. If they don’t have any, they can open Mary Kay CHASE VISA card, and charge all the products they will never re-sell to it
Many people end up in heavy debt
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t track what they’re spending vs earning until it’s far too late
-
What else do reps lose?
Time: Selling is actually a very small part of the business. A lot of time is spent FINDING people to sell to, organizing classes, restocking inventory, recruiting new members, traveling, going to conferences, and more.
Mary Kay’s motto is, “God First, Family Second, Job Third”, to imply that this is something you can pick up part-time, but that’s simply not true
Relationships: Most people try to sell to and/or recruit their friends and family first, which can put a strain on relationships. Additionally, due to debt and/or need to borrow money to buy more products, many have damaged relationships with those close to them, including their spouses, who share the debt.

How else does Mary Kay make money?Don’t worry, it’s not all from sales reps buying their products! (Sarcasm. Please worry.)
Website + ability to process credit cards: This is essentially an annual membership fee - to access the MK website to buy their products (to re-sell), or to take credit cards as payment, you pay an annual amount to Mary Kay
Business Cards: More petty costs
Conferences: Sales reps are greatly encouraged to pay to attend sales conferences to learn more about how to be a great salesperson. (BONUS: you will encounter many cult-like tactics here, to keep you IN the MLM)
Jackets: Congrats! You’ve been promoted and you are now permitted to wear the Red Jacket! It costs $100. If you get promoted to NSD(?), you get to wear a fancy suit that changes every year and costs $1,000 each year!

How else does Amway make money? Bonus because they are egregious
Sales Reps replacing everything they own: Amway sells a LOT of different things. How can you sell anything if you haven’t tried it? If you really want to succeed at Amway, get rid of EVERYTHING you own that Amway also sells. Make sure everything you own is sold by Amway (people do actually follow these instructions! Cult-like tactics are used)
Training Materials: They make a lot of money off of selling training materials to their sales reps. Aren’t making money? It’s because you don’t WANT to succeed, clearly, if you aren’t buying all the training materials you can get your hands on
Haha maybe more than you've bargained for. I wrote this all at once late at night, but I'll look it over later to check for any potential errors and link more sources.
