(Older) Bede x Pregnant! Champion! Reader maybe 🥺
Um... yes!? I'm so weak for pregnancy fluff! 🥺
🌸 Pregnant with Bede's child 🌸
• The moment that you discovered that you are pregnant with Bede's child, you had so many emotions coursing through your mind.
• Happiness, of course! The thought of adorable little Mini Bedes running around brought the biggest smile on your face.
• However, there was fear. You were afraid that Bede would be mad or upset. You couldn't fathom the idea of Bede leaving you, you love him with all of your heart.
• You also felt a bit of worry. If Bede were to be as happy as you, would you be able to properly care for the child? Not to toot your horn, but money was far from being the issue. It was a concern regarding time. With you being the champion, and Bede being a gym leader, would you be able to take care of the child? Would you be able to balance everything?
• So, needless to say, you were beyond nervous to break the news to Bede. Your heart was racing and you couldn't stop fidgeting. You had to fight back your tears. You couldn't help it; there was that little voice at the back of your head, telling you that everything was going to go horribly wrong.
• When you told Bede, he froze. For once in his life, he was at a loss for words. He could only stand there, wide-eyed with his mouth gaping. He couldn't bring himself to fire a snarky comment. He was absolutely speechless.
• At the sight of his reaction, your heart broke, thinking that it was a negative response.
• But then, the faintest of blushes had tinted his cheeks, he was biting his lip and you had noticed that his eyes seemed to be glossy.
• Of course, as soon as you had noticed his tear-filled eyes, he gazed down at his lap to avoid your gaze, taking a few breaths as if trying to regain his composure.
• That's when the smallest smile cracked. It was beyond him at that point, Bede couldn't even attempt to mask his emotions.
• Him? A father? Bede already feels like the luckiest man in the world to be blessed with the best woman by his side, and now, he is going to father your child? It was all so overwhelming to him.
• How in the world did he even deserve all of this? By Arceus, Bede is well aware of how horrible of a person he was to you and your friends before Opal took him in. Even today, he is still a snarky and prideful person, he's hard to deal with and he most likely gives you many headaches.
• When you cuddle up to his body at night, tenderly kiss his lips or tell him just how much you love him, that he's your world, he can't help but wonder what the hell he's done to deserve a second chance from you.
• And now, you are going to have his child. Not only are you giving him the love, touch and support that he's been craving his entire life, but you are also going to give him a family. Something that he's never truly had. Something that he could only dream of when he was a child himself.
• He was so happy that he didn't know how to react, what to say. The only thing he could do was take you in his arms, resting his head in the crook of your neck, shyly muttering how happy and thankful he was.
• It was such a big relief to you, so much weight had been lifted from your shoulders that you couldn't help but let happy tears flow.
• The few days that came after the announcement, Bede had a few fears regarding his future as a father. What if the child doesn't like him? What if he's a terrible father? And, he had the same worries as you regarding time. Will he be able to take care of you and his child while being a gym leader?
• You had to reassure him countless times that he was going to be okay, that you are sure that he will be a good father. It may take some getting used to, but you trust that he will adapt.
• In the end, you figured that your family is more important than sponsors and interviews, and although you love meeting with fans, you are sure that they will understand that you will need to dedicate your time to your growing family. However, that doesn't mean that you are going to throw the towel on your champion title.
• As for Bede, sure he has challengers, but at the end of the day, he's all yours. Some days are slower than others, so he will be able to be home with you while remaining the Ballonlea gym leader.
• Plus, you have many friends and family members who will gladly offer to babysit, should you need it.
• After the initial "Holy crap I'm going to be a dad" thought settled in, Bede's pride and ego inflated, if that's even possible.
• "The champion, the strongest woman in all of Galar, the most amazing woman in the world, is pregnant with my child. That's right, I, Bede, got the champion, who is my woman, pregnant!"
• Bede was already rather protective, and even possessive of you at times, but that has doubled ever since you got pregnant.
• It was as if a switch had flipped inside of him. His demeanour is comparable to that of an alpha male, protecting his territory from others.
• Bede has absolutely no trouble flaunting and boasting about your relationship and sending death glares to people who are getting rather flirty with you. Of course, Bede can't help sending the offender a cocky victory smirk whenever you lean against him or voice your massive disinterest because you're spoken for.
• You both had agreed to publicly announce that you are expecting. It was going to be noticed sooner or later, so you may as well be forward.
• Of course, the whole region was hyped. And yes, the media was all over you, which was a massive annoyance as the reporters often asked very personal questions.
• Of course, Bede was having none of it and had gotten the media off of your back with some good ol' Bede attitude.
• As mentioned, you haven't stopped battling. You're still extremely lively and bouncy during battles. And yes, you still stand in front of your huge, dynamax pokémon.
• This behavior of yours gives Bede mini heart attacks everytime you stand on the pitch, which gets worse and worse as you get further into your pregnancy.
• You often get scolded by Bede to settle the hell down! Of course, you tease him a lot about his protectiveness, which always results in your lover huffing in embarrassment.
• You often have to remind him that you're pregnant, not dying.
• You love to playfully tease Bede, saying that you would like your child to have his good looks and your personality as it would be chaos to have little piles of attitude running around.
• Bede is legitimately afraid of your mood swings. He can barely handle a normal person, so how the hell is he supposed to handle his girlfriend who's emotionally all over the place?!
• His answer is usually food. He'll dump a bunch of your favourite snacks on you in hopes that you'll spare him.
• Bede doesn't mind whatever gender the baby ends up being, but he kind of wants a little girl.
• Bede has a very strong opinion on the design of the nursery. In fact, Bede took it upon himself to paint the nursery pink, blue and purple, decorating it in a bunch of pokémon dolls of your team and his. In the end, he has an eye for aesthetics, so he did a wonderful job with it.
• Bede often traces little patterns on your belly when you're cuddling and when he hugs you, he often puts one of his hands on your belly.
• At one point, you were resting your eyes on your couch. Bede thought you were asleep and so, he nuzzled your belly, cooing and talking to your unborn baby. It was the most adorable thing you've ever heard.
• Of course, you keep that to yourself. You wouldn't want to fluster your poor tsundere too much... yet.

Into the Wild (1/8)
Bede/Gloria (dressedinpinkshipping)
-
Gloria sauntered into Ballonlea's Gym as if she owned the place, smiling to the Gym Trainers with a quick wave before walking over to Bede. He studied her curiously, taking a moment to quieten the thrum of his heart as she approached. He could feel the knowing eyes of the staff on him. His body prickled irritably and he swallowed a sharp bark at them to mind their own business as he greeted Gloria.
"So, what is it this time?" Bede asked, forcing himself to sound indifferent. The pittering of his heart was difficult to ignore, the way his heart, his blood, came alive in her presence.
She diffidently struggled to meet his eyes, the hesitation in her eyes making his stomach, his heart, flutter wildly.
"Do you have a moment?" she asked softly. "Can I… talk to you outside?" She finally looked at him, an uncertainty in her voice, in her warm brown eyes, making his breath catch in a tight, nervous hitch. His mind spun for a moment before he remembered to answer.
"Sure, I was about to take a break anyway."
A thrill of heat rushed up his neck and settled on his cheeks at the ambiguity in her words, Bede's mind launching to sudden conclusions that made his heart fluster. The timid way she nodded, looked away from him and led the way out of the Gym sent a tingle of heat through his veins. It was as if her nervous behaviour was contagious. Infecting him and making it difficult to breathe, to meet her eyes.
She was so nervous for some reason, meek and bashful, and the striking difference to her normal demeanor made it difficult for Bede not to jump to conclusions. He tried desperately not to focus on the soft blush on her cheeks as he followed her from the Gym. On the way she walked faster than normal, always keeping a few quick steps ahead. On the apprehension in her eyes when she glanced at him.
Bede's heart stuttered. His lungs felt strangely tight. The air was thicker than normal, a sticky blanket of air wrapped around him and making him feel warmer, stuffier than usual. He desperately wanted to wipe the sweat off his palms. Wanted to swallow the clammy feeling in his throat away.
Gloria stopped at the edge of the Glimwood Tangle, a fragile silence descending around them. She turned to face Bede, raising her eyes hesitantly to meet his. She gnawed absently, nervously, on her bottom lip.
Bede needed something, anything, to break the suffocating silence. "So… what did you want to speak to me about?" he asked. His voice came out strained and tense. Stiff and forced.
Her eyes shifted away. "Well, it's… a bit complicated, actually."
Every second that passed made Bede's heart pound harder, faster, louder in his chest.
"Try me."
She twirled her fingers together, fiddling as she spoke. "I… kinda need to ask you a favour…"
"And? You've asked me to do innumerable favours for you before."
What was different about this one that made her so nervous? The spinning cogs in Bede's mind whirled francticly to make sense of all of this.
Gloria pursed her lips. "It's a big favour."
"Exactly what kind of favour is it?" The nerves were finally settling, Bede raising a suspicious eyebrow at her. She wouldn't meet his eyes.
"So… you know how we're in between League Challenges…?" she began slowly, twiddling her fingers sheepishly, "and we're preparing for the next one at the moment…?"
Bede took a deep breath to clear the remaining nerves from his lungs. "What is it? Are you going to reach something resembling a point anytime soon?"
"I need your help, Bede!" Gloria huffed, scowling embarrassingly at him. "That's what! It's the Champion's job to go through the Wild Area between seasons and deal with any issues with wild Pokemon or the terrain and I... was going to ask if you would come with me…" The fire in her voice petered out, she dropped her gaze away.
"You… need my help?" A self-satisfied bubble of pride bloomed in his chest. His lips pulled up into a smug grin. "The Champion is asking for my help?"
"Yes!" Gloria pouted, a frustrated blush colouring her cheeks. "Please, don't tease me about this. You're the only one I could ask..."
Arceus, his heart swelled with warm pride. He fought to keep the giddy smile on his face from expanding.
"Well, if you say it like that, I suppose I could find it in me to help you."
"Really?" She blinked earnestly at him, her eyes wide and pleading. She leant forward on her toes, hands clasped in front of her chest.
Bede's breath caught and he turned his face away at how close she was, so suddenly, and cursed the rising heat on his cheeks. "Y-Yes, that's what I said. I'll help you."
Gloria sank back on her heels and pumped her fists happily. "Yes! Oh, thank you, Bede!"
Before he could register what was happening, Gloria embraced him in a quick hug. His mouth dropped open in a strangled gasp, his body freezing rigid and taught as her silky hair tickled the side of his face and neck. He breathed in a gasp of peach and vanilla. Her scent. It was gone as quickly as she'd hugged him, her warmth suddenly and desperately missed as Bede sagged as if his spine had melted.
"I was so worried you wouldn't agree and I'd have to spend a week in the Wild Area by myself," Gloria rambled, relieved and excited.
"Hold on - it's going to take a week?" Bede's heart dropped into his stomach. A cold wave of dread, of sinking trepidation, washed over him.
A full week.
In the Wild Area.
Alone with Gloria.
"Um… yes." Gloria smiled sheepishly at him. "That's why it's a rather big favour…" Her smile lessened fractionally, a bead of worry in her eyes. "Are you… still going to help me?"
Bede exhaled a deep sigh, wondering what, exactly, he had gotten himself into. "I said I'd help you, so I will. I'm not going to go back on my word."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Gloria cheered sweetly. "I won't forget this, ever!"
Her smile was too dazzling, too bright. Bede couldn't look at it without succumbing to a rush of heat. His cheeks burned under the effects of her smile.
"Well, before you get too excited, we need to figure out the details of this trip," Bede said, scrambling for something to focus his mind on, something to bring him down to earth as his heart threatened to soar away. "How long do you expect this to take? Have you planned out where you're going to start, at least?"
Gloria grinned proudly. "I have, actually! I asked Leon for some estimates based on his experience and it should take no more than a week; three or four days to deal with the Southern Wild Area, about the same for the North. We can stop in Motostoke in between."
Bede nodded slowly, surprised that she's actually thought ahead about this. She was usually more impulsive, more I'll-deal-with-that-when-I-get-to-it kind of thinking.
"I was planning to leave next Saturday. We could meet in the Meet-up Spot at around eight in the morning?"
"We'll meet at your place. I'll want to check all our gear before we head off. You have a track record for being a bit too optimistic at times."
Gloria rolled her eyes. "I've camped in the Wild Area before. I know what to expect."
"And yet you seem to think that you can route the whole Wild Area in a week."
Gloria sent him a challenged pout. "You don't think I can? Leon could do it, and I beat him!"
"In a battle, yes. But you seem to forget that Leon had been Champion for many years. For him, a week is fine. For you…?" he raised a pointed eyebrow. "Maybe a week and a half, minimum. Remember, Leon had his Charizard. From what I've gathered, you plan to hike the whole journey."
Gloria nodded slowly as the truth of Bede's words sank in. "Okay, we'll meet at my place, then. Oh! We can take the train from Wedgehurst! It'll be like we're starting our journey again!"
She gasped so excitedly that Bede couldn't bring himself to argue and remind her that taking a sky taxi would be quicker.
"I'll have to change up my team a little if we're going to deal with a range of Pokemon," Bede commented, his mind continuously thinking. "Might be worth it to catch any strong Pokemon we come across."
Gloria bit back an enthusiastic squeal, bouncing on her toes with a bright smile. "Oh, I'm so excited! I've already sent my tent in to get patched and I've stocked up on a ton of Ultra Balls."
"Potions and food too, I should hope."
She rolled her eyes. "That's next on my list."
"You have a list?" Bede said, sounding impressed with a teasing smirk.
"Of course! Although, I'd still like to drop into Motostoke after three or four days. We can deal with the rest of the Southern Wild Area after that before moving north."
Bede nodded as their plan slowly came into place. It actually seemed feasible.
"Is that all you wanted to talk to me about?" he asked.
"Yeah."
Bede raised an eyebrow. "Then why did you have to drag me all the way out here to do so?"
Her nervous demeanor and the way she'd ask to speak outside had given him a completely wrong impression on what she'd wanted to talk about.
Gloria looked away. "Well… I was a bit… embarrassed about it."
"Embarrassed to ask me for help?"
"Embarrassed that I had to ask for help at all. And, as much as I like everyone at your Gym, they can be a bit…"
"Nosy?"
"I was going to say curious."
"They eavesdrop, Gloria. That's nosy."
Her lips twitched into a smile. "I'm glad you agreed to come with me. Hop's busy studying and helping Sonia, and Marnie's got other commitments. I was afraid I'd have to do it all by myself."
"You've camped in the Wild Area by yourself before," Bede pointed out. "You traveled solo during the Cup too."
"I know," she sighed sheepishly. "But it's so much more fun to do it with someone else."
There were many things Bede could have said then. He could've chided her that it sounded like she just didn't want to be lonely, or reminded her that they weren't doing it for fun. But the smile on her face was too dazzling for Bede to risk dampening it with a callous remark.
"Anyway, I should head off," she said. "I'll text you if anything changes, but if it doesn't, then I'll see you on Saturday!"
Bede's breath caught unconsciously. "Y-Yeah. That sounds good." A reflexive heat had begun to pool on his cheeks as his body braced for what would happen next.
Gloria then raised up on her toes, hugging him briefly, too quickly, and stepped back.
"Wait-!" Bede snatched her wrist as she went to turn away. His heart lodged high in his throat as her eyes widened. As confusion, a question, filled her eyes.
"Bede?"
The gentle way she said his name made it impossibly difficult to speak. He swallowed painfully.
"Didn't you say, before, that hugs are usually reciprocated?" Bede said. He forced the words out, his brow furrowing slightly with the effort. "You can't just hug me like that without allowing me to… reciprocate."
Her lips parted slightly. "Oh. Sorry."
Bede stole his hand back, releasing her wrist. His skin tingled where they'd touched.
Gloria hugged her arms close to her body. "I didn't want to make you uncomfortable, that's all. I… tend to go a bit overboard with hugs sometimes." She laughed lightly then, but a trickle of pain filtered through her sheepishness. "I'm not good at reading people's reactions to my hugs, or at all, really."
"I wouldn't have let you hug me in the first place if I was uncomfortable about it," Bede said.
She pursed her lips into a faint smile, but it faded quickly. "I know, but… I've annoyed people in the past by being too huggy. All the other kids in Postwick avoided me because of it, because I'd get too excited and hug someone. Hop was the only one who'd hug me back." She shrugged absently. "I guess I just don't want to… lose another friend because of it."
"Sounds like you're better off without them," Bede huffed.
"Maybe." Another shrug. "Just… let me know if I start annoying you or anything, okay? I'm really not good at those kinds of things."
"You're not annoying."
She looked at him now, her heart open and vulnerable and rough with scars. Isolation and hurt that Bede recognised and ached in response. Wounds inflicted years ago, slow to heal, never fully fading. A memory etched into flesh.
"You're impulsive and excitable, overly affectionate at times and incredulously optimistic too, but not annoying." A swath of heat spread across Bede's cheeks as he spoke. As her eyes widened, as light returned to her face. "Even if you were, I wouldn't say that because that's you. I see nothing wrong with you being the way you are."
Silence fell for a tense, deafening moment before Gloria sucked in a deep gasp.
"Aw, Bede! That's so sweet!" she chimed, bouncing quickly on her toes, positively vibrating with glee. "I have to hug you now, okay?"
She bounced on the spot for another second before Bede realised she was waiting for his permission. He nodded stiffly, his breath held tight in his lungs, and she launched herself at him with a warm hug. She shifted up and down on her toes, nuzzling into him with a happy squeal. Her hug was calming and gentle, yet firm enough for Bede to feel her body heat bleed into him, solid and soft at the same time. He managed to scramble his brain for enough cognitive functions to reciprocate her embrace, gently wrapping his arms around her back. She quietened against him. Her movements stilled and she softened in his arms, steady and silent. He felt her sigh against him, a tranquil and listless breath of air sounding in his ear.
"Mm…" she hummed and Bede felt that vibration, that quiet sound, throughout his entire body. "Your hugs are nice."
Bede blinked in stupor. His face was alight with a fierce blush, his lungs struggling for air in a mix of elation and panic. "Wh-What?"
"I feel like I could fall asleep like this…"
"Well, don't! I'm not a bed!"
She laughed, pulling out of the hug with a breathless giggle. Her eyes sparkled with dazzling mirth. "Thanks, Bede. I needed a hug just like that. Now I feel rejuvenated! Time to go shopping for more supplies!"
"Just remember that you'll have to carry everything you take. Don't expect me to lug around any junk you bring."
Gloria breathed a puff of laughter. "I know! Oh, I'm so excited now! I'll see you on Saturday, Bede!" She skipped around him, turning to give him a wave before dashing off.
Bede shook his head to himself, a small, amused smile on his face. She was completely ridiculous. A whirlwind of hugs and laughter, a crackling storm of frightening strength beneath a sunshower of bright, dazzling smiles. Even now, after all this time, she managed to surprise him.
The week ahead would certainly be very interesting indeed.
-
The days leading up to the start of their trip passed impossibly slow. Bede had obtained everything he needed for the journey the day after Gloria had asked him; a new tent (he hadn't kept the one he'd used during the Cup), a durable and sturdy backpack, a sleeping bag rated for the lowest temperatures they'd expect to encounter, and enough packaged food and potions to last over a week. He'd had the foresight to pack a decent first-aid kit, knowing fully well what Gloria was like at times. They'd be lucky to reach Motostoke without an incident or two.
The consequence of being prepared so early meant that the last few days of waiting felt agonisingly slow. The only bearable aspect to it was Gloria's excited texts, becoming full of emojis and almost indecipherable as the week progressed. She sent pictures of her gear, her pink tent now with a solid patch over the hole on the roof, the ingredients she'd stocked up on for making curry.
The night before they were scheduled to leave, Gloria sent a picture of a mound of sandwiches, texting that she had their lunch sorted - for them and their Pokemon. Bede couldn't help but smile, amused at the satisfied grin on Gloria's face in the photo, a smudge of sauce on her cheek as she posed in front of the sandwiches. Her Cinderace eyed the food in the background hungrily. A light chuckle left Bede's lips at the sight. He sent her a quick text in reply, warning her not to let Cinderace eat it all before they'd even left. He then sent another, pointing out the streak of sauce on her cheek. Her string of embarrassed emojis and exclamation marks, a barrage of texts one after another, made Bede laugh to himself. He lay back on his bed, eyes closing as he smiled. His phone buzzed in his hand, more texts from Gloria explaining that she didn't normally end up with sauce on her face after cooking. A warm bubble of amusement burst in Bede's chest. Texting Gloria was free entertainment.
Bede rolled onto his side, texting Gloria back that he wasn't so sure if he should believe her excuse, with the way she always ended up with crumbs on her face after eating. Despite the late hour, the early start they had the next day, he found he had little desire to end their conversation. The hours passed like minutes, an endless chain of texts between them filling the time. Hers sprinkled with an array of emojis, of hearts and exclamation points, as energetic as the real thing. Bede kept his short and succinct, skipping any sense of grammar or punctuation for ease. He'd thought, once or twice, about sending an emoji in reply. Entertained the idea long enough for it to flutter his heart strangely, to think that he'd adapt part of her texting style into his. He'd decided against it, in the end.
Their conversation ended abruptly, Bede's text staring blankly at him without a reply, and he realised that she must have fallen asleep. It was almost midnight, and with their train tickets for eight in the morning, they had planned to meet earlier, at her place, at half-past seven. Bede stared at the ceiling above him, a distracting thrum of anticipation in his chest. A bundle of excited nerves humming, buzzing together between his ribs. A swirl of anxious energy pumped through his veins with every beat of his heart, deafening and dizzying.
He was too excited to sleep.
-
At seven-thirty on the dot, Bede strode up to the front door of Gloria's house, dumping the heavy pack off his shoulders as he rang the doorbell. Budew cooed from the garden, soaking up the dawn. The air was cool and fresh, tinged with the scent of hay and flowers. From inside, Bede heard footsteps, a muffled voice. Wooloo and Dubwool called in the distance farms behind the house.
Bede straightened as the door opened, Gloria's mother welcoming him in with a bright, homely smile. He thanked her curtly, collecting his bag and entering with a bashful nod. His heart clenched tight in his chest, suddenly and frighteningly nervous in front of Gloria's mother. A Munchlax sat in the living room, barely paying Bede any notice save for a long, heavy yawn. In the entrance to the living room, Bede recognised the bag Gloria planned to take from pictures she'd sent him.
"She'll be out soon," Gloria's mother said. "I'd only gotten her out of bed a few moments ago." She laughed lightly. "Said she was up late last night packing."
And texting me, Bede thought as a trickle of heat curled on his cheeks. Gloria's mother didn't seem to mind the prospect of them camping together. Despite only meeting Bede a couple of times, she seemed to trust him. Liked him, even. He felt small, felt too exposed under her smile, almost wondering if she could hear the rapid pounding of his heart in his chest. Every movement he made, every word, every breath, was careful and forced into perfection. Afraid to stuff up, to fumble anything, in front of the mother of the woman he loved.
Arceus. He desperately hoped she couldn't see the blush forming on his cheeks.
"Bede! Sorry, I'm almost ready!" Gloria called, the door to her room swinging open. She stumbled out, hopping as she tried to stuff her foot in her shoe. She swept the lunch boxes off the counter, stealing a sandwich off a nearby plate in the process and holding it between her teeth, and unceremoniously shoved their lunches into her bag. In the process, she finally slipped her foot into her shoe with a tug on the heel. She stomped her heel on the floor once, then twice, then nodded satisfactorily. She drew her long hair up with practiced grace, tying it up into a neat ponytail. She stole the cap resting against her bag and placed it on her head, turning to Bede with a grin. His eyes drew to the pink Fairy Gym logo on her black cap. She still had it.
Of course she did. It was pink.
"There! Now I'm all ready to go!" Gloria beamed, taking the sandwich from between her teeth and nibbling on it.
Bede stared, torn between being impressed or concerned about that rushed performance of hers.
"Take care, you two!" Gloria's mother said. "You watch out for each other, now!"
"We will!" Gloria replied happily, scooping her bag off the floor as she munched on her sandwich. "We all good to go, or did you want to check my gear, still?"
"Unless you've decided to drastically change it since you sent me those pictures, it's fine." Bede nodded to Gloria's mother appreciatively. "We'll be off, then."
Gloria skipped around him, surprisingly nimble with the bulky bag on her shoulders. "Lets go, let's go!" She swung open the door, and Bede hurried after with long striders, saying a quick farewell to her mother.
"If you keep going like that, you'll be exhausted before we reach Wedgehurst," Bede chided.
Gloria rolled her eyes dramatically, spinning a wide circle as she walked to make sure Bede saw, but slowed to a normal pace. "It's called being excited. You should try it sometime."
"And here I thought it was about the journey, not the destination."
"Our journey starts in the Wild Area, and we're not there yet."
"It won't be much of a journey if you wear yourself out before we get there."
Gloria scoffed but settled into a gentle pace beside Bede, still smiling. The dirt path crunched beneath their feet, the sounds of happy Wooloo and Dubwool filling the air, as they walked the short distance between Postwick and Wedgehurst. Each step Gloria took had an excited bounce to it. Her ponytail swished back and forth like the tail of a trotting Mudbray and Bede bit back a smirk at that thought.
"It's nice to see you in that jacket again," Gloria commented, smiling at his large magenta coat. "Feels like it's been ages since I've seen you wear it."
Bede shrugged, ignoring how warm he felt under her gaze. "I didn't put that much thought into wearing it, if you must know. It just happens to be the thickest jacket I own, and the Wild Area has unpredictable weather."
"I know." She smiled at him, the corner of her eyes crinkling. "But I've always liked it."
A fuzzy bead of warmth lodged in Bede's chest. He had to force himself to remember that she was talking about his jacket, and not him. He absently hitched the collar higher. He studied her out of the corner of his eyes, taking in the way her skin seemed to shine in the morning light, the bright streaks of gold in her brown hair, the speckles of honey in her eyes. She wore less pink than usual, settling on darker, muted colours for their trip. Dark blue denim shorts frayed at her mid-thigh, a thick jacket keeping off the morning chill. She wore her usual black boots but had changed her backpack out for a larger, tattered brown one.
Her fringe blew gently in the breeze around her face, and Bede caught a glimmer of silver on her earlobe.
"You pierced your ears," he noted, almost freezing on the spot when he realised he'd said that aloud and not in his head.
Gloria dimpled, reaching up to twiddle the small silver loop. "I got them done a few weeks ago. I thought it'd make me look a bit more mature, now that I'm Champion."
The earrings sparkled in the light and Bede swallowed his comment that she looked plenty mature regardless, unwilling to let that sliver of honesty out just yet. Over the many months they'd known each other, Gloria had already matured. The light in her eyes was less innocent and naive, becoming more steadfast and determined. She walked with confident strides, shyed less around strangers. She spoke her mind with more confidence, trusted herself - and her Pokemon - in her battles and her life.
She'd grown her long brown hair out from the messy bob she'd had during their Challenge, letting it fall past her shoulders. The only part of her that hadn't changed at all was her height. Bede had been half a head taller than her when they'd first met and now he could easily rest his chin on top of her head if he wished.
She'd probably make the most adorable and amusing squawk if he did.
-
They chatted aimlessly on the way to Wedgehurst, the sun rising slowly, sitting at a low angle when they finally arrived at the station. The late autumn air was brisk and sharp, and Bede shoved his hands into his pockets. He eyed Gloria's bare legs incredulously, wondering how she wasn't feeling the cold. They sat on a bench just outside the station, basking in the sunlight as they waited for the train to arrive. Gloria stretched out lazily, slumping at an angle that couldn't be comfortable for her neck. Her feet tapped absently.
Bede opened his mouth to speak when two young women approached. Their eyes sparkled excitedly.
"Are you Gym Leader Bede?" one of them asked. She had thick, unruly hair tied into pigtails, giving him a wide, eager smile.
Bede straightened into a more respectable posture, wiping the disinterest from his face and managing a smile. "Yes, that's correct."
They both squealed in glee. The other girl, with dusty blonde hair chopped short, clung to her friend's sleeve. "Is it true that you give autographs now? Can you sign our League Cards?" She thrust out a copy of Bede's Rare League Card towards him, a black marker sitting on top. Her friend did the same.
Bede took the cards, and the marker, and gave them a refreshing smile. "Of course," he said, swallowing the bile rising up his throat at how sugary he sounded. He capped off the pen, neatly signing the two cards before handing them back.
"I can't believe we ran into you in Wedgehurst!" the pigtailed girl exclaimed. "We are so lucky!"
"I know!" the blonde echoed. "Oh, can I ask you a few questions? Is that alright?"
Bede managed to maintain his smile. "Sure. Go right ahead."
Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Gloria shove her hat further down over her face. Her arms folded stiffly across her chest.
"I heard that you're going to take over Ballonlea's theatre as well! Is that true?" the blonde asked. "Are you going to perform too? Or just direct the plays?"
"Oh, yes! I've heard there's going to be a production of Romeo and Juliet - are you going to play Romeo? Who's going to star in it? Do you need any more actresses? We could totally play a part!"
Bede blanched slightly, recovering quickly from their onslaught of questions. "Ms Opal doesn't have any plans to retire from the theatre at the moment," he said calmly despite his growing irritation.
"Are you dating the Champion?" the pigtailed girl asked, making Bede's heart catch painfully in his throat. "Everyone says you've got a thing for her!"
"Is it true she rejected you? You confessed to her during the finals, right? Does that mean you're still single?"
Gloria scoffed harshly, silencing the rapid fire question from the two girls. They turned to face her, biting irritation twisting their smiles into scowls. Bede blinked in shock.
"What kind of questions are those?" she huffed, straightening so she sat upright again. The cap hung low on her head, casting a shadow over her eyes. "That's none of your business."
"No one asked you," the blonde spat.
"Ignore her," the other girl said. "Just look at her, wearing the Fairy Gym hat. What a total wannabe. Obsessed enough to think she'll get his attention by dressing in his merch, Arceus!" She laughed, her friend joining in to cackle at Gloria.
Something dark flashed in Gloria's eyes. A trepid tingle shot down Bede's spine. He knew that look all too well, knew what it meant. He stiffened where he sat, deciding that he wasn't going to get involved with this, not when Gloria had clearly decided to fight back.
Gloria's laughter silenced the two younger girls. She tossed a Pokeball in her hand, spinning it with each throw. "How about this - you two beat me in a battle, and I'll clear off. I win, you get the fuck out of here."
Bede stifled a choked gasp. He'd never heard Gloria swear like that before, never more than a whispered curse beneath her breath, and definitely not burning with acidic vitriol like that.
"As if," the blonde laughed. "We don't have to battle you."
"Two-on-one," Gloria said. "Both of you against my Cinderace. One Pokemon each."
The girls exchanged glances, overconfident grins building on their faces before they laughed.
"Oh, you're on!" the pigtailed girl said. They hadn't noticed the dangerous flash in Gloria's eyes. The cutting edge to her sharp smile.
A cold shiver trickled down Bede's spine. His heart skittered warmly in his chest, making him suddenly breathless.
Gloria drew off the bench smoothly, standing tall despite her meager height, and tossed her Pokeball. Cinderace appeared from the wash of light, bouncing on his toes.
"All right, Cinderace. Let's show them what we've got," Gloria said. She nodded to Cinderace pointedly, her Pokemon catching the hidden meaning to the blaze in her eyes with a quick trill in response.
Cinderace. She'd said Cinderace, not Fyrian. Deliberately chose not to use the nickname that would label her as the Champion.
Bede's blood thrummed in his veins. She was more cunning than he thought.
The two fans of Bede grinned at each other as they put a short distance between them and Gloria, readying their own Pokemon. They threw their Pokeballs out, sending out a Drednaw and a Pelipper.
Water types. Bede steeled himself, trying not to show interest in the battle, to reveal the anxious clenching of his heart despite knowing this was Gloria, that a type-advantage meant nothing against her. He clenched his hands into fists, still buried deep in his pockets.
There was a viperous edge to Gloria's smile, a menacing edge to her grin. An overwhelming confidence erupted in her eyes. Cinderace shifted his stance, paws digging into the dirt, his expression echoing his trainer's.
Neither opponent noticed, or cared, about the absence of fear in Gloria or Cinderace. It would be their downfall.
The two naive trainers saw Gloria's inaction as weakness and took the moment to strike. Drednaw flung hefty boulders at Cinderace, digging rocks from the earth with the solid horn on its head and launching them. The rocks shattered on impact with Cinderace arms braced in front of him. A spray of dust and earth clouded Cinderace. Pelipper spurted a torrent of water through the dust cloud. Another boulder launched. It shattered with a flash of heat and fire. The dust settled. The air cleared, and Cinderace stood tall. A fine layer of dirt caked his arms but he remained strong without a scratch. Unphased and unharmed.
"Now!" Gloria called.
Cinderace launched into the air. The trainers gasped, Drednaw struggling to follow the upward trajectory that Cinderace took with a single bound. Pelipper dove to the side with a cry. Drednaw's trainer called for him to dodge, but the slow moving Pokemon could only shuffle and scramble before Cinderace began to fall.
The impact rumbled through the ground. Earth sprayed into the air, Cinderace and Drednaw disappearing into the thick cloud. Pelipper cried in a panic, fluttering above the growing cloud with anxious beats of its wings. A ball of fire shot from the cloud. It slammed into Pelipper's left wing and the Flying type dropped from the sky. Cinderace leapt from the dust, swiping a blazing kick at Pelipper's side with a flurry of fire and feathers.
Cinderace landed cleanly on both feet. A second later, Pelipper crashed to the ground, its wing and belly charred and black with soot. The dust settled behind them, Drednaw collapsed in the dirt. A stiff silence fell. The wind carried the stench of soot and dirt, swirling Pelipper's lost feathers into the air.
Gloria angled her head with a haughty smile. She walked over to Cinderace, giving her Pokemon a nod of approval, before returning him. Her gaze snapped to the two gawking trainers. They flinched, quickly recalling their fainted and wounded Pokemon. Gloria stode past them, picking up her bag off the floor by the bench. She smiled at Bede. He stole the owlish look off his face.
"Let's go," she said sweetly, but the sharp edge to her smile remained. "Our train's here."
Bede collected his bag and followed her into the station, feeling the flabbergasted stares of the two trainers bore into his back.
-
Gloria remained silent as Bede took a seat opposite her, nestling his bag under the table between them. She looked out the window at the station wall. A cloudy glaze fell over her eyes, distant and impassive, and she rested her cheek in her hand, elbow propped on the table.
A strange mood had overtaken her, and Bede didn't know whether to try to soothe it or not. The fire in her eyes had completely doused, not a cinder remaining. His heart skipped uneasily, sinking heavily into his gut.
"Do you regret thrashing them so completely?" Bede asked. He sat back, trying to remain casual and unperturbed when Gloria slid her eyes over to him. "It might do them some good to taste defeat once in a while. Arceus knows they deserved it."
"I knew them."
Bede's heart slowed to a stop. She looked away. Memories he couldn't read, couldn't discern, flickered and shifted behind her eyes, fading too fast to detect the emotions they stirred.
"They didn't appear to recognise you," Bede noted.
The corner of Gloria's lips twisted sourly for a fraction of a second. "Of course they didn't. Why would they, when they spent our whole childhood teasing and bullying me, avoiding me and taunting me, as if they didn't spend every waking moment making my life miserable."
Her brow twitched, a scowl forming and fading quickly. "They probably don't even remember… I know they don't. Why else would they rock up to my house the other day asking for me, for us to 'catch up.'" Gloria punctuated that with a gesture of inverted commas with her fingers. "If I'd been home then, I would've given them a piece or two of my mind, that's for sure."
"I don't doubt that." Bede folded his arms loosely over his chest, trying to gauge Gloria's mood, trying to work out how best to proceed. She'd never really opened up much about her past, only in fractions and pieces over time. She'd gone through a lot more than Bede had realised. Ostracized and isolated, an experience he knew all too well.
"When we were kids it was always Leon-this, Leon-that. Now I guess they've moved on to you."
She stared blankly out the window as the train began to move. The brick wall became a blur of stone, the rumbling and clattering of the train filling the silence for a moment.
"Guess I'm only interesting to them now that I'm Champion. Finally worthy of their attention instead of insults." She huffed sharply, then sighed and stretched. "It felt good to thrash them like that, though. They didn't even know who I was. Oh, I should've told them at the end; can you imagine the look on their faces?" Her laughter calmed the tense air, a smile finally reaching her face.
"That would have been fairly amusing, I'm sure," Bede agreed. "Though, I'm more surprised about hearing you swear like that earlier. You're usually quite careful about your reputation as Champion."
"Oh, that…" she laughed sheepishly. "I guess it kinda slipped out. I only tend to swear when I'm really upset or angry."
"You've never sworn at me."
She blinked at him. "Why would I do that? I've never been that mad at you."
"You seemed plenty mad after our first battle, back in Galar Mine."
Bede clearly remembered the sharp blade of her glare, the tight cut of her jaw when she winced in pain, the crimson blood blooming on her shoulder where her confused Snorunt's Ice Shard had struck her.
"Oh, that." Gloria nodded slowly as she remembered. "Did I look mad? I was trying so hard not to cry from the shock of it all. And it hurt like hell." She laughed briefly, a short breath of reminiscence.
"I never asked about it," Bede realised. "Was it bad?"
Gloria rolled her shoulder. "Not really. It bled a lot, sure, and left a funky scar, but it didn't need stitches or anything. Although I had a huge bruise over the spot for a full week afterwards!"
Bede didn't know how she could make light of something like that. How she could smile and laugh about the wound on her arm, about the scar her Snorunt had left on her skin. How she could brush it off like it was water trickling over her shoulders and not blood that had stained her dress.
"Yuki was so sorry about it too! She wouldn't use Ice Shard at all for days afterwards!" Gloria chuckled lightly. "I hadn't even thought to be mad at Yuki, or you. I was more frustrated at myself. I hadn't noticed how distressed Yuki was, that she was confused and that I made her continue fighting."
Gloria's smile faded, becoming doleful and soft. Memories of pain and regret danced behind her eyes. She looked out the window as the train edited the tunnel, a rush of light and trees streaming past.
"I'm sure she doesn't hold it against you," Bede said. "From what I've seen, all your Pokemon trust you immensely."
Light returned to her eyes as she smiled at him. "Thanks, Bede."
Those simple words fluttered his heart. He snatched his gaze away to the window, to the scenery rushing past in a blur of colours. The stammering of his heart made it difficult to breathe but it wasn't uncomfortable in the slightest. It was fuzzy and warm, a pooling of heat on his cheeks. Like her smile was the sun, warming him with its mere presence. Like he was a sunflower, following her as she swept across the endless sky. His eyes drew back to her like a magnet, again and again, as they fell into an amicable silence.
A full week.
Bede wasn't sure if his heart could last that long at this rate.

My review of Pokemon SwSh!!!! (or just Shield, cuz it was the version I play, LOL)
Finally, after finishing the game (including the Post game) and fully exploring the region, I think it’s time for me to say what I think of this 8 gen…
I know it’s obvious, but I mention it just in case: This is MY OPINION!!!, if someone disagrees with me its totally valid, I just ask for respect.
ALSO, English is not my first language so I might have certain lack/erros of spelling out there, or I repeat many words, hehe.
It is important to clarify that this review is based on SwSh base, everything that refers to DLC will NOT be included here, my opinion of the game is already done, the rest is extra content.
I wanted to give this review a more ‘’silly’’ tone, since giving negative opinions on the internet can be quite delicate and I wanted to relax the mood. Do not take this seriously, I still have my CONS with the game, but it is still genuinely enjoyable, which for me is the most important thing in a game.  I will talk about everything in general, so I will try to summarize certain points.
LET’S GO!!!
NEW FEATURES
Poke Camp, Curry Dex, Boxes and more
It’s like a dream come true for me, visiting other camps, seeing my whole party next to each other in the screen playing, discussing, running, is something really magical helps, me connect with them and know their personalities better, although I admit that I miss petting them lol and the minigames like in Gen 6. I also really liked the concept of curry as an alternative way to cure your Pokémon maybe I just wish there was a simpler way to know how to create new recipes (ALSO TMs).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Access to boxes anywhere is wonderful especially when you are breeding, just like, changing the name of trade Pokémon and the move reminder.
Rotomphone
It is not used as much as a phone, more than in the post Game (I can be wrong tho) but it serves as Dex and that’s what’s important really, the new feature is that now it includes the bicycle, that can ride both on land and water and in my opinion it is a degradation of what the concept of  “Poke Ride” was, but as I said before, it fulfill the function it should.
Trainer Cards
The concept of being able to share and customize them with other players is super entertaining, although it is a bit annoying that you always have to make a new code for each small modification. As for the cards of the main characters of the game, I will talk with a little more detail later.
Tumblr media
Dynamax
Tumblr media
At the beginning it was fun and exciting, but in the end it just became a gimmick that sometimes I had to use by obligation in raids. It is not as epic as the Megas and does not have the weight of the lore and cultural/regional connection like the Z-moves.
The Giga forms, although some are great, and I am happy that they gave Pokémon like Garbodor love, I also think that there were many missed opportunities, starting with the starters of the region or in giving forms to Pokémon that in previous generations already had like Gengar and Charizard.
Raids
They are incredibly fun, it is an activity that you can spend hours and hours enjoying, especially with friends but if we talk about NPCs… OOF, I understand that the purpose of Pokemon is that we all make friends and work as a team, but DAMN, if it is stressful when you lose a raid with 3 friends and an NPC, because the Pokémon only killed the NPC, it is almost impossible to defeat a 5 star raid with only NPCs, and as I said before I understand why they do them weaker, but there are some that are completely useless, I see you Martin Solrock lol.
Poke Jobs and Rotom Rally
I  will be honest, I have not used these features enough to have a solid judgment on these lol.
CHARACTERS
Magnolia
OK, I need to get this off my chest: I am incredibly disappointed and sad with this character, especially since she is/was our first old female professor, to be simply pulled into forgettable land.
Tumblr media
It started pretty well, but then it just disappeared until almost the end of the game to give the role of professor to Sonia … REALLY ?! I hate to say this, but she felt more like a device to give character development to Sonia, when she could have been used in scenes with Rose or repeatedly going into further detail about Dynamax for the MC (you know because she’s an expert about that topic…), before give the paper to Sonia. At least I am grateful that I had a little more screen time in the post game, although not even as a professor.
Sonia
Tumblr media
Thank you Sonia, for allowing us to discover and know the story with you, honestly she was the one who saved mostly my interest in the story.
But speaking of the character, I like her, I like her dedication to get out of the shadow of Leon’s achievement and to show her grandmother that she is capable, which she finally manages to fulfill, she still has certain insecurities, but that makes her more human, she’s the real professor (I’m still salty for Magnolia tho)
Leon
Tumblr media
Everyone knows from the posts on my PT on Twitter that I constantly bullying the character, but I really like him a lot, he is an excellent guide/brother through the game, charismatic, EXTRA, but very involved in his role as champion, in the sense that he is always aware of what is going on and helping in the process, in addition to being strong (one of the most difficult battles in the game). Definitely among my fav champions with Cynthia, Steven and Kukui (I count him as champion, SU!)
Gym Leaders
Tumblr media
I love them, their designs, personalities, the animations, they are all incredibly memorable, my favorites are Opal, Kabu and Piers.
But even so, I wish I had more to go on besides the lore on the back of their cards and their battle animations, I would have liked to see them more integrated in the story, and I feel that it lack a little more interaction with some of them, especially Allister and Melony in my case, but at least the trainer cards were a good addition to know them a little more, outside of being a Gym Leader.
RIVALS
OK, I’m prepared for everyone to hate me, *sigh*:
I… I DONT LIKE BEDE AND MARNIE THAT MUCH?… I mean, I don’t hate them, and they are both far from being the worst rivals, but I did expect a little more from both…
Tumblr media
Bede
Tumblr media
I am one of the few of the fandom that does not like rivals flat jerks, because for me, that is not a character but rather  a trait.
But I wanted to give it a try, and when I was just beginning to gain interest in him, they force his backstory in my face… And as I said, I like trainer cards…but more in characters, like G.leaders because these are characters that we don’t see much around the trip, but in the case of rivals, that appear several times and develop in the story, I personally like to get to know them little by little, discover their story and understand them in the course, here I felt it more as an excuse for me, to feel bad for him, especially at the moment he gives you his card.
His relationship with Rose is not explored enough imo.
And a complete turn-around that happens offscreen, like no joke, the MC literally didn’t see any of it, he just disappears after the Opal scene (but to give him credit, that scene is one of my favorites in the game).
Tumblr media
But you know, I understood that he was just a lost boy, and I’m happy that he found a better place, and I admire his effort to want to change, so in the end I ended up liking him a little more.
Tumblr media
Marnie
Marnie is interesting, because although I agree with many people that she would have benefited from having more screen time, I consider that a good character does not need all the screen time in the world, is about what but what they do with it, and the problem I have with her is that her time was not well spent.
I like her dream and I really like her relationship with her brother, however there was no moment when I really connected with her. I feel partly, that I don’t know her character, like her various personality facets.
Untapped opportunities: fight with her more times or with her…would have helped the character a lot imo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hop
Hop is the best rival of the three hands down, his trainer card contains the right and necessary information to make us have an interest in the character, but also the story lets us know him more: a competitive boy, but who has insecurities, fears of failure, that is reflected not only by the dialogue but also in his Pokemon team (no really, it broke my heart when I realized that he didn’t have his Wooloo in his team), that he is frustrated and suffers, but he gets up, discovers other tastes and with these finds a new path, ugh perfect, I adore him.
Tumblr media
Forcing the player to defeat him is torture, it is like defeating Hau in USUM and Wally in ORAS breaks my heart.
Rose
In short: ok character, decent /meh antagonist, and a horrible villain.
Like the climax of the story, Rose is forced in the end to be the villain, when he worked best as an antagonist, his plan makes no sense, his battle is disappointing, although his battle theme is awesome, but it just does not fit the character, the plan, nor the situation at all.
Tumblr media
But the character has a certain charisma, especially in his ‘’suit especially in his incognito suit.”
Oleana
Interesting character, with a potential backstory, with motives and characterization, who is underused in the story * sigh *… I LIKE HER THO
Tumblr media
Overall, I would have liked to see much more of the relationship between Rose, Oleana and Bede, I think it would have benefited the 3 characters…
Team Yell
They are … ok, it is cool to have a team that is not villain, that bother the player from time to time even for good reasons, I admire his dedication and loyalty.
Tumblr media
THE REGION
The region is aesthetically beautiful, the details, the structure, the contrast for example between Hammerlocke and Ballonlea, and despite not living in the UK or having had the opportunity to travel to the destination, according to my friends the region in which the games are based is very well related, which I think is excellent. However, despite the visual beauty, when it comes to routes and exploration it feels a bit limited, there are really some towns, where the most interesting thing to do is complete the Gym, there are almost no reasons to return to the previous town after having passed them…
Tumblr media
But, what I missed the most was the lack of exploration, discovery, the charm of the NPCs…
Many have told me: what about the Wild Area? Because of the ability to explore in an open area, it is probably the best in the franchise! and yes, the Wild Area is a very attractive part of these games (I will talk a little bit about this, later), but as I said, everything that is considered part of the capacity of the new console, I will not take it into account, it is unfair, because a portable console can NOT stand a concept such as the Wild Area although the developers had the idea before, not at least at SwSh scale.
And as I said before and again, the T.Cards are an incredible idea, but for me NOTHING compares to getting to know the characters through the world, dialogue, interaction… I’m going to use pokemon Moon as an example to make me understand better: (because it was the last main pokemon game I played before SwSh and that’s why I have it more fresh lol) Where you can enter Olivia’s shop, buy jewelry and visit her room and discover that she is a desperate single woman, or enter Gladion’s room and talk to the receptionist and that she tells you part of his story, that kind of things…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s see for example Melony, we know she has more children besides Gordie, but only for concept art, and yes, probably do unique models would take a while, but I honestly wouldn’t have be bothered  if they use generic NPCS, they did it with Lana’s sisters, then the anime can dedicated to giving them unique designs.
Tumblr media
Speaking of NPCs (mainly of those inside the houses), many lost the charm and authenticity they had… I mean, where is the lady who told us the story of her husband’s accident or the men of the coffee shop, who every time he prepares us a drink told us the story of where such a drink came from, ect… the NPCS on that side are boring…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EXCEPT BALL GUY, he / she is awesome!
Tumblr media
I know this look like extra or unimportant things, but these little details really give life to the region, personality to characters that are secondary, it makes everything feel more united and also makes the main characters feel more inside the world, and honestly that is why on this hand, some cities felt empty for me…
But the other hand, I really liked what they did with the NPCs fans, see how the number increasing every time the MC wins a gym battle, makes the trip to become a champion feel more rewarding, It really helps you feel like a true champion when you got it.
Tumblr media
Other examples like the girl NPC who is going to support  you in the Gyms while their pokemon is evolving, or how the NPCS react and change their dialogue corresponding to what is happening… beautiful, for this part the worldbulding is 10/10.
Tumblr media
The wild Area
Tumblr media
Probably the closest we have for now of an open space area in a Pokemon game, I have to admit that I get lost at least 1 half an hour trying to find the next destination (I understand you Leon), it was hilarious lol, at the beginning of the game it turns out to be a fairly limited area, and you really can enjoy it in its entirety when you finish the main story, but I don’t see so much trouble with that, since it’s partly the point, for balance. In general, it is a fantastic idea although I feel that it is necessary to polish it in certain parts, and NO, I don’t mean THE TREE, but I don’t want to be so hard on GF at this moment, because is the first time they experiment with such concept…
Pokemon and Music
I put these two together because they both share a very curious characteristic: EXPERIMENTAL.
The pokedex is super solid, I love how these last generations, GF is doing its homework and is striving to make the pokemon belong to the region, as for animals, myths, culture…muah I LOVE IT, BRAVO.
Tumblr media
For me a good OST movie or video game not only has to be for the piece n yes, but how it is composed to accompany the events that occur on the screen, how it adapts and fits a certain scene of the story or character, and although I admit that in general it is not my favorite compared to other gens, there are tracks that have become part of my favorites:
Tumblr media
The crowd, the screams, the build up as you gradually approach the last pokemon, ugh. Dynamax is cool and everything, but THIS is the basis for me, of why these battles feel so energetic and exciting.
Tumblr media
That mystical atmosphere that catches you, is beautiful but at the same time mysterious, and perhaps many disagree with me, but the addition of the howls of the legendaries… I love it.
STORY
I think the game started extremely well, the introduction to the characters, the exploration, the introduction to the starters, the mystery of the legendary, everything is on track to me to enjoy this adventure to the fullest, but later I felt like it began to fall.
I understand that this is Pokémon and sometimes Pokémon does not need a complex story to make it enjoyable, as long as it makes sense and is entertaining, the problem I have mainly with the story is how they constantly get you out of it. I understand the concept they wanted to do: to take a more realistic point of view, in which adults take responsibility or in this case the champion and that later when you become champion you now can do what the champion did, and I like this concept, but the phrase of “you focus on the gym, we take care of the problems ” they say and they repeat it several times in the game like, I understood the first time!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Indirectly I felt like they were trying to took me out, and in consequence I lost interest in the story of the game, if it hadn’t been because Sonia bothered to explain to me the lore and a little of what was happening.
It’s more like “tell us” and not “show us”
Tumblr media
and that’s the risk of this concept: you play as a main character, because you want to be a main character or share the role.
The climax feels incredibly forced and confusing, I felt that there was no build out, almost no foreshadowing for what was happening at the moment, everything comes out of nowhere, and thats why, I started making Okami jokes with Eternatus, because I don’t felt that emotion of the ‘’Climax’’.
Tumblr media
Definitely in the part where the game shine was in the gym Challenge, as I said before, the gyms, the leaders, the atmosphere within them, the scale, the music that changing every time, until reaching the final pokémon, the challenges that we have to do before, the fans, becoming the champion, all this really is the identity of the game.
Tumblr media
Pokémon returned to its roots, where this story is the story of us again, and becoming the champion here is everything, it is one of the most exciting and most satisfying Gym challenge in all generations with gyms.
Tumblr media
ADDITIONAL
Here I want to give opinions according to the experiences I had with certain things within the game, which I think are quite PERSONAL, because each person plays different Pokémon, by the team of Pokémon, because he decided to level up more or stay at a lower level or how you decided to follow the story of the game.
Difficulty
Decent, by the standards of Pokemon of course, I try not to leveling to much, and if I do, there are maximum 3 levels and only one pokemon… So, gyms were easy in general, perhaps a pair that were difficult (Allister and Melony), but I never did black screen as in other games, but definitely the most difficult battle in the game is Leon, which I think is appropriate.
Online
Its horrible lol, There were not only once but several times in which I lasted like 1 hour trying to connect with a person, it is ridiculous. The signal falling every so often. But in general the biggest problem I have is connecting with very specific people, not even with the infamous Festival Plaza had so many problems.
Gameplay / Pacing
It is normal the same as always which is fine, some drop of frames out there in certain scenes but nothing serious, some cuts and lack of scenarios / designs that if you should in when they took me a little at the time, but absolutely nothing compared as the haters make it look, the game is still incredibly enjoyable, and it can be played perfectly.
The pacing started pretty well/decently, but from the fourth gym onwards, everything became very very fast, and not to mention the climax and the Pokemon League, honestly all this last arc felt super stuck….
So my opinion in general is: I enjoy the game like any other Pokémon game, it has its entity, it has new and interesting things that I would like it to expand more in future generations and it has personality. Is it my favorite game or my favorite generation? No, I definitely enjoyed other generations more, there were many missed opportunities that they could take more advantage, and I feel bad for GF for making them release this game for this year and these dates, because unfortunately some cuts are very noticeable. But the generation just starting ,so we will have to wait and see what we have for the future. For now, Thanks Pokémon SwSh, for another adventure…

Pokemon Sword and Shield Endgame Crossover
Title says it all. I got requested by Anon and I've been thinking about this. This might be a little change from the last crossover I had done with IW.
After the war was over, the whole Galar region and the rest of the region are in a state of despair/panic. Four months passed and it still hurts, a lot of people are gone.
No one knows where Enternus have gone after the war. It was a repeat. They try to find it by using tracking device and power but it just leaves a dead end.
Meghan believes that others who had disappeared are still alive. She refuses to give up and gather any recruits who are willing to join her.
Milo, Kabu, Nessa, Piers, and Raihan are willing to join her.
Bede, Allister, Gordie, and Leon refuse to join. They thought it was a good attempt but without any leads, they can not find Enternus. Even if they did, how can they bring everyone back.
Rose (who is in jail due to unleashing the destructive monster) offers to help and told Meghan and the others that there is a way to find Enternus's home.
Meghan asked Leon one more time to join her, knowing that he wants his little brother back. Leon, however, just accepts that Hop is already dead and doesn't want to hope that he could be alive. If he believes, then it would hurt even more if his little brother can't come back.
Meghan and her group left their world and entered Enternus's home. (Think of this one like the den with the castle above it.)
That den carries a lot of energy. Making their attacks stronger but hard to control, even with the help of the Elemental Gems.
They found Enternus who already detected their presence. It have an army that are in different shape of monsters.
The fight begun. Piers, Milo, and Nessa attacks the monsters while the remaining group attacks Enternus.
As it turns out, the monsters that are attacking are actually people. Most of them are the ones who had disappeared but turns out they were converted into Monsters. Their minds had been taken over by a parasite that is attached to certain parts of the body.
Meghan first discovered it when she used her water power to hit one Monster in the face. It was about to ambush her. Turns out it was Hop but that blown off face quickly regenerate. Think of it as Eddie showing his face when he fights as Venom.
The group are getting tired. They tried to come up with a way to save those people but needed help to do so. At least restrain them to find the parasites and destroy them. Piers can deal with the parasites but needs to have a lot energy in order to free all the victims.
The battle is getting nowhere. Enternus seems to be winning, until it got hit by a psychic and fairy moves that throws it off.
Leon, Bede, Allister, and Gordie came to the battlefield to help fight. But those four aren't alone. Rose, Oleana, Sonia, and others are ready to lend their hands to stop this once and for all.
There are still a lot of enemies but at least the group have some help.
Leon asked what if they have a plan. Piers tells him that he has one but it will take awhile for him to do it. Gordie heard it and told them that his mom can help out but she is among the others who are being controlled.
Kabu points out that he can find Melony in the crowd. Once he finds her, Piers can set her free in order to free everyone else.
Getting Melony free was not easy, even just to save one person. Kabu rescues her by ripping the Parasite that was latched on her chest and burns it.
Melony and Piers teams up to do a powerful sound attack that will hopefully stun the monsters. Milo, Kabu, Rose, Meghan, and those who can use steel type moves protected everyone from the sound wave.
Those who were turned got the parasites off of them by Milo who pulled them off with vines, and those parasites got burned.
Meghan leads the group for the attack against Enternus who was done storing power and is in its Gmax version.
The battle is over. Meghan had calmed down Enternus by sucking its energy into her, which gave her a form.
Everyone got back home and everyone in the world are so happy that they started parties, they are so grateful for those who fought and Meghan who had ended it.
Although, Meghan decided to leave to a different world where everyone can be safe. Some people did not wanted her to go and some cried, especially Hop.
Leon, the gym leaders, professors and Meghan's mother understood the position and responsibility Meghan have. They wished her well and says their goodbyes in hugs.
Meghan leaves with Enternus and the Sword and Shield Pokemon to a world that is safe to keep the power in check.
A bit long or short. I just wanted to double-check this before sending it off. Hope people like it.

So I finally found a used copy of Pokemon Sword and scrounged up the money to obtain it. I've just earned my first badge.
Review below
I've been critical of these games, which I still stand by in terms of how GF and TPC are handling the series. I do have criticisms that still stand, such as shoddy graphics and recycled animations in a lot of places, Hop being an annoying kiss ass that won't leave my shadow for 2 seconds to let me explore, the rail roading, and of course the whole national dex thing.
I will also say the first gym was pathetically easy. I beat his mere two pokemon with one Corvisquire in exactly 4 turns. There really should have been stuff for type coverage like in pre gen 6 games, imo.
Sound design is also really good in some areas and honestly kind of bad in others, sounding like DS music fonts mixed in with modern music that just seems weird. Bede's theme especially sounds like a remix of something I've heard before, but can't put my finger on.
There's also moments even in docked mode where framerates just SLOSH.
Also Team Yell? Sub par. I hate them more than Team Flare and they don't even have the loveable Pure of Heart/Dumb of Ass vibes that Team Skull had. They're literally egirl stans and that's it so far.
That being said, it isn't as unplayable as initially thought. I did some digging, and pretty well established Switch hackers dispelled fears over the whole NAND chip being used as Virtual Ram and turning the Switch into ticking time bombs. It's clear to me the game isn't finished and needed a bit longer to get some polish in, but it is playable and dare I say fun at times. Of course, the fun is something supplemented by a 23 year formula of fun that is hard to make not fun.
It's simple. New pokemon, collect, trade, battle, hard to mess it up. In a way it's a bit boring with how samesy it is, but at least it isn't a risky and unnecessary departure to that old rumor of a new combat system.
Sound design is creative when done right. There's particularly an area that has music that sounds like pitched wolf howls, which works well in context. The mine and outfit shops also sound great, and dare I say the gym leader's theme for last pokemon is amazing. I'm also rather fond of some upcycled game boy sounds used for saving and trading.
Also this game fixes a problem I've had with gen 6 and 7, in that it actually has been showcasing mostly new pokemon up til this point. In those gens you'd have to really dig for the new shit, especially in Alola, as much as I love Alola. Then again, this might change for all I know.
Outfits are also passable, although I would like regular pants like most npc's that don't just amount to skinny jeans or ankle exposure. I'd love some real boots like from X and Y or something.
So far I'd give this game a 70, which is still technically passing by a hair, but I'm only at gym 1. I just pray the game gets a bit more difficult. I still can't believe the gym was really that easy. I may start going in with neutral or disadvantaged types just to retain a challenge. Seriously, usually if I go in with a type advantage, they can work around it, but if you do this here, it just cripples the usual challenge. Corvisquire was even the same level as Eldegoss.
Anyway, I'm having fun but I'm definitely not seeing any 8 or above material here. I'd say it's a bad pokemon game, but still fun if that makes sense. Same way Sonic Forces is fun but bad.
If you'd like to friend me, my Switch code is SW 1117 2403 6530. I have Sword, so if I come across exclusives you'd like and vice versa, send me an ask. I'd really like a Ponyta tbh

Some thoughts on SwSh’s story
So I’m going to be upfront as I go into this. Although I enjoyed the game overall, the store was... kind of lackluster and barebones. The ideas and concepts behind it were neat, but it severely lacked in execution. These are a few things I would have done or kept the same to improve the story. Obviously, story spoilers follow.
If they really wanted to play up the whole idea of Chairman Rose being a well-intentioned extremist... why not have the energy and resource crisis be happening now, instead of in 1000 years. He's working on an... ethically questionable solution, but to keep the masses happy and from catching on to how serious the situation is becoming, he really plays up the gym challenge, hypes it up as this big event. There would be more fights against people working for him along the way, though who they're working for wouldn't be revealed till near the end.
Spikemuth is a town that's been hit hard by the energy and resource crisis. Piers has been trying to get Rose to budget money to fix up the town, at least to a livable condition. Rose says he'll get to it eventually, but in the meantime keeps badgering Piers about moving his gym somewhere else where he can dynamax. Which would put Spikemuth off the gym challenge circuit. Piers refuses, partially because he hopes that the widely broadcast gym challenge sees the state of the town, maybe the publicity or the public can sway Rose into doing something about it. His own gym trainers, going off as team yell to blockade trainers in support of Marnie, kind of mucks it up though. I wouldn't change much about
Bede's arc, though I'd probably have him slip a bit further into darkness, maybe trying to take revenge on Rose before both you and Opal help snap him out of it.
I don't think I'd change anything about Sonia's, Hop's or Marnie's arcs beyond playing it up a bit more.
I'd probably keep the whole idea of "let the adults deal with it and you just enjoy the journey," stay in, but have the character still get involved instead. They live here too! If something happens, it's going to affect them too, so like hell they're going to just sit back and watch.
On the subject of sports, I would probably put more focus on the nerves and expectations placed on the trainers. On how they have to do all these things that they wouldn’t normally do, just to grab the attention of the public (think of like, the concepts behind some of the actions in the first Hunger Games novel, iirc, but with less death and murder). And their interaction with fans, especially fans that turn fanatical, such as Team Yell.
I think I'd have the PC, Hop, Bede, and Marnie take on eternatus, though perhaps with you and hop controling Zacian/Zamezenta.
And the postgame... oh my god. I'd make Sordberg and Sheildbert or whatever their names were more menacing and not just give up so easy right at the end. "Oh you caught the dog? Ok we won't be bad anymore." Give me a break.
There's a lot more I could say about it, tbh. Especially about pulling all these ideas together. But I already had to go into two separate messages to post it all so I'll stop here. But tbh, if it wasn't for the fact that the idea of reasearching uk culture for a fanfic sounds exhausting to me, and I've already got almost a half-dozen chaptered stories I want to write, I'd legitimately consider doing an adaptation with all this to write an improved story.

What are things Ghetsis likes to do in his spare time? Does he have anything in particular that he really enjoys doing that most wouldn’t know about? (Like. Knitting or some hobby type thing like that.)
Hobbies, huh. . . .
Ghetsis is a very goal-oriented person. Back when he was Plasma Boss and all, he wasn't really one for many hobbies--he certainly enjoyed doing things in his free time now and then, but by the time he'd adopted N, he was putting most of his free time into Plasma and advancing his goals and such.
But like I said, he did enjoy things now and then!
((snip snip unless you’re on mobile in which case as always I am sorry--maybe i should start putting these into multiple posts instead of singular big ones?  lmao
Also brief mentions of I think abuse, Pokémon abuse, torture??  i don’t think there was anything else triggering in there but i’m also too lazy to reread it lmao))
Ghetsis loves to read. He most enjoys nonfiction--true crime, history, religion, culture, Pokémon, human psychology, science, world news; Ghetsis really loves just about anything that can teach him something new. He's all about doing lots and lots of research, too, and he's actually well versed in old languages, too, especially old Unovan. He made a cypher for translating(and even taught Zinzolin how to read it a bit! In fact, Zinzolin is the one who has the Old Unovan linguistic work he's done atm because he can't let go of his boyfriend's old things) But he also likes a good fiction novel--crime, historic, alternate history, adventure, thriller, horror. . .he's picky about fantasy and science fiction and romance, but he'll read them now and then too.
While he's not really that into it, he does watch a lot of TV lately. He has days where he's pretty much immobile, so something he can just lie down and watch is nice to at least keep him from just sleeping all day. His taste in TV and movies is pretty similar to his taste in books. However, he's not much of a TV person and it's more something he just kind of accepts as what he 'has to' do nowadays. Sometimes he just. Doesn't have the energy to turn pages in a book. But entertainment is always better than boredom.
In his current state, Ghetsis doesn't really do much daydreaming or quiet contemplation, because ultimately it leads to a heavy slew of negative thoughts and emotions and makes him feel terrible. But in the past, he spent much of his time thinking about the world, plotting, planning. Lately if he does anything it's daydream or dissociate but. The latter isn't really, y'know, a hobby or something he really wants to do.
Music! Is one of his highest interests!! The Harmonia family is a very musical and artistic one, so he was surrounded by music and taught to sing and play instruments since he was in diapers. He doesn't think of himself as being able to play instruments nowadays. . .even though he still played now and then when he lost most usage of his arm, so long as it obviously didn't really require both hands or a need for both could be worked around. At present he's more into listening to music than anything--and his tastes are far more variant than you'd expect, as he's able to find some enjoyment in most any genre. He's started to sing more lately, too, although since his voice is often poor, he hates to do it and have to hear how terrible he sounds. But after Bede told him not to be discouraged over it and that some practice would surely restore his voice to its former glory, he's been singing to himself a bit more in an attempt to get his vocal chords back in decent condition.
(The unexpected part of this is when you find him singing old pop songs. . . . . . . .)
Ghetsis is, despite being antisocial as far as his personality/mindset/comfort levels, actually quite outgoing and enjoys people's company and talking to them, watching them. He loves social events and crowds and being around people--although he also hates it because, well, everyone is below him and the world around them is usually disgusting. But he quite likes company, especially from interesting and intelligent people, and he's playfully flirtatious too. While he prefers to do the talking and teaching, he's not against listening if somebody catches his attention and, again, Ghetsis has an insatiable desire for knowledge. Oh and socializing doesn't always have to be positive, either! He l o v e s to harass his protags. He likes to disturb people and make them afraid and uncomfortable and upset. He'd probably be an internet troll now and then if he bothered with internet socializing.
(Also, Ghetsis fucks to survive is a hedonist. So having people around means getting laid when he wants to. And how can he say no to being attended to and having his body worshipped and pleasured? To the power that comes with controlling someone else's pleasure, making their whole body respond with a mere touch, sometimes even less?)
As of late he also quite enjoys taking walks when he can--and while he's still beginning to accept it, he has started taking his wheelchair out(though, not in the regular world, only in the magic plane he’s hiding on) if he can't do his own walking and just enjoying the world outside. He. . .misses it.
He actually is very well travelled and he loves travelling, visiting new places, learning new things in person, going on expeditions and to archaeological sites and ruins and historic places. . .! Up until BW he travelled a good amount and enjoyed the bounties and interests his the world had to offer, practical or not. He likes himself a good time and experiences. Of course it lessened when he acquired his kids, especially N. And nowadays he hardly even leaves the house, let alone the region, though with the way his magic hideaway works(rather, doesn't work) he can wind up travelling by accident simply because it isn't stable enough not to move around.
And, of course there's magic. Ghetsis habitually draws little magic circles and things here and there, little spells to store magic or discourage nightmares or encourage remembering things. If he's idly tracing something on a table that's probably why. If he's idly tracing something on a person, that's probably why--in particular, he'd 'bless' N with safety when he went outside, or put magic on him that would ideally 'lock' his mind somewhat so he wasn't influenced by the outside world and had his plans ruined. Ghetsis does rituals every now and then(there used to be some cultish stuff in Team Plasma. . .maybe. . .but rituals aren't necessarily cultish, just like regularly done things) and magical cleanses, protection for his own spaces, charging the crystals and things he has around, and practices little bits of magic here and there just so he knows he can still do it. Now and then he tries to learn or develop new magic, but he's really not in the best condition for good magic usage. It certainly doesn't stop him but, y'know, tries to keep playing with fire to a minimum lest he burn his house down.
Of course, these are mostly things he does at present. . .with the strokes and the weakness in his body and the problems with his cognition and mind in general. . .his options are lessened in his opinion. His depression and lessened will to live make it hard for him to do even those things--let alone some of the things he used to do.
Sports are among the things he'd done in the past--namely basketball(just kinda happens when you're over 6ft tall.) He gave his old ball to N to teach him to play, but back then he could still play, one arm or not. Nowadays he has trouble even sitting up let along standing, running, and he's still accepting that he needs a wheelchair now and then when he can't get around so easily himself, so wheelchair basketball isn't something he'd even consider trying. Playing basketball? Tennis? Hell, any sport? He can't even consider it. He hates watching sports now. Whereas he used to love to do so because he could watch Unovan teams VS other regions and feel proud and cheer for Unova and so on, but now he can't stand it because it makes him think of how he used to be.
One of the things he did a lot up until the end of BWB2W2, was, of course, train his Pokémon, care for them, sometimes even play with them. They needed exercise and enrichment, and keeping them in fighting and killing shape was a high priority, both for enjoyment/entertainment and for the sake of having strong Pokémon. But now his Pokémon are all gone. . .and he resents all Pokémon for it and his hostility towards them all has increased. If anything at present, he takes even greater delight in hurting Pokémon than he had in the past.
Public speaking, debating, evangelizing, convincing people of Plasma's ways, giving and writing speeches was also a hobby he enjoyed. Usually, however, he winged his speeches, simply spoke from his cunning heart. Of course, if he tried to do something like that today. . .well, someone would call interpol and it'd be a whole thing. . .he does talk to himself a even more than he used to now, but it's not the same.
Punishing and teaching Plasma's members and anyone they decided to. . .host for a while, so they could learn the truths and come to know Team Plasma's might and perspective. . .being able to torment captives, seeing the hope leave somebody's eyes, god. He misses power. He misses victims. He misses taking out his frustrations on somebody locked in his dungeons, beating them and spitting on them and showing them how above them he was, torturing them--. . .expressing his power, he never really gets to do it anymore. . . . Harming others. . .even less. . .and what power, authority, strength does he have to at present anyways. . . . .
Training members of Plasma and their Pokémon, using the Pokémon they'd liberated for various behind the scenes work like building the castle, abusing people and Pokémon alike, really he found such bliss in it. Yes, it was something he kept quite quiet about or explained away until Neo Plasma--after all, nobody knew of his plans and intentions until he was defeated--but that didn't mean he didn't enjoy it.
Unexpected things. . .hm. he's pretty adventurous so I'm sure he's tried lots of things, but ultimately discarded them as things to do often for one reason or another. Knitting he can't see himself doing, one hand and all.
When N was younger, he actually took care of the human dolls and toys he gave him, since n mostly cared about the pokémon ones and was neglectful towards the human ones. Which was what was intended! But it irked Ghetsis's sense of perfectionism to see them all messed up, so he'd do their hair and dress them and so on just so they were in order and not a messy pile in the corner.
Ghetsis liked visiting dig sites and such, but he also enjoyed personally going on expeditions now and then too! He'd been planning one to the Abyssal Ruins for some time, but it never came to fruition. . . .
Since he was so well researched and did lots of discovering things himself, he’s written academic papers and things of that nature too.  Spreading his knowledge is always great.
Sciences piqued his interests sometimes, although that may not be a surprise. It's probably even less of a surprise that he was interested in experimentation on people and Pokémon--he was usually eager to let Colress do as he pleased as a result.
OH RIGHT ALSO! COLLECTING STUFF!! In particular things relating to or supposedly relating to legendary and mythical Pokémon and extinct ones too and history/legends and other unique things--stuff like feathers from legendary birds or orbs or gems said to strengthen or summon them and stuff like that. . .! He has a raw keystone, but he's not super aware of what it is since Mega Evos only really have recently come into common knowledge and he wasn’t in Kalos to learn about that in particular at the time, so he just thinks it's a cool kalosian rock with a strong life energy.
Tbh idk about any unexpected hobbies for him. . .tbf i also have like. No hobbies of my own. So this is kind of a hard question for me because doing things in your spare time??? I can't even bring myself to do things when o have to do them! Lmao.
He's abandoned a lot of his hobbies and interests. It kinda comes with being old and disabled and depressed and losing your will to live. He's feeling a bit better as of the start of the blog recent--so he's getting a bit active again, but. . .he's still not used to being "incapable" and it gets between him and doing anything for fun.
But hopefully this answer satisfied! And if not, if you're curious about anything in particular, send another ask my way!!

Pokemon Sword/Shield: A Comprehensive review.
So I just finished the story of the game, have around 30 hours logged, and I figured now would about be the time to give you my thoughts on the game.
THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD
The Pokemon; Now, I'll be the first to admit I was angry when it was announced the national pokedex would not be in SwSh. Now, I know that not being able to bring along your trusty pokemon from previous generations is going to suck, it hurts me to know that my, and many other's, favourite pokemon are not available to use. However, there are still plenty of pokemon to enjoy, I love the Galar pokemon, and the new Galarian forms, they're whimsical, charming, some of the are cute, funny, strong. So I urge you that if you're upset about Dexit, then I feel your pain comrade, but there are more pokemon waiting for you. I didn't know what to do until I encountered a Hippopotas in the Wild Area and started building a sand focused team. Who knows what will strike your fancy?
The Gym Challenge; I liked the way in which the Gym Challenge was played out. I really felt the UK inspiration in just about everything. The Stadium battles have an atmosphere like no other, with top notch music, cheering fans, and dynamax duels, you really can't go wrong. The Gym Missions you undertake don't feel too gimmicky and somewhat remind me of the gym puzzles of old. Gordie's gym felt like Koga's invisible walls. NASA's mission reminded me of Wattson's electric walls. The gym leaders are well designed, with fleshed out personalities, and the rivals might just be the best they've ever been.
The Rivals; You have your classic best friend rival introduced in Gen4, who also happens to be the current champion's little brother. Hop, despite what the haters say, has some truly incredible character growth, he goes through several different team iterations, an arc where he questions his own abilities, and has to fight for his redemption, and at the end of the game, decides that he wants to be a pokemon professor, which really threw me. Then you have Marnie, she's a new style of rival, as she is the whole reason Team Yell exists (I'll talk more about them later). She is quite the character, motivated almost entirely by her older brother, with mostly dark types at her side she ends up not being much of a challenge, but I enjoyed the ways in which she showed up during the story, and am happy with her inclusion, meeting her in the Semi Final of the Gym challenge was a great way to show off her team growth, and I'm happier for it. Lastly we have Bede (don't ask me to pronounce it). This is your more traditional Blue/Silver style of rival, he is a lofty, mean-spirited, elitist snob, who only wants success at the expense of your failure, he also has very interesting character growth, where he gets disqualified from the Gym challenge, then goes on to become the new Fairy Gym leader, and then storms the Gym challenge finals to demand a rematch with you to prove his worth, it's quite the rollercoaster.
The Story; this is the part of any pokemon game that worries me the most. This time around I think it stuck, while its far from perfect, the idea of the legendary pokemon being connected to the region's ancient history is cool, and the lead up to Rose's tomfoolery at the end was ominous, and well done, as he interrupts your championship match with Leon to start his plans. The post story was quirky, and although sadly short, it was a cool idea, executed wel enough that it didn't leave a sour taste in my mouth, doing raid style battles with gym leaders was fun, and gave you a look at their growth as well, and while Sordward and Shielbert are entirely ridiculous characters, the lore behind them is interesting, and makes for a fun segue into catching Zacian/Zamazenta.
The Wild Area and Raids; easily the most fun you'll have with SwSh, I imagine at least 10 of my 30 hours were spent roaming the land in search of new pokemon or raids. Teaming up with trainers online to take on 5* raids is incredible, truly there has never been anything quite like this.
The Battle Tower; much like the Battle Tree in USUM, this provides post game content, with access to the BP stores for all your competitive needs. Nice to see it return.
Conclusion; the game isn't perfect, moves have been removed as well as pokemon, indoor battles do not have the same beautiful landscapes as outdoors, and are instead filled with one colour, which feels lazy. But overall GF have done a fantastic job with SwSh, and I do heartily recommend you get it.
