Okay I just saw your post about transmasc Mike Walters and have some things to point out. When we first get Michael he is only wearing shirts when he has to otherwise he's shirtless (a common thing to do post top surgery). And I can't rember exactly where it was but there was a singular line about scars on their chest that made me double take for that reason. Do you have more thoughts to share about it? I'd love to hear them if you do.

i have ten million thoughts about transmasc Mike Walters

First of all - the name. In Episode 9 he has this whole thing about how Mike Walters isn't actually his name, how CANNONBALL was fooled. He talks about it with obvious pride ("Mike Walters - now that's a name.") Yet despite that, from that point on in the podcast, everyone calls him Mike Walters, without fail. This includes friends from before he started using it in the podcast. My personal headcanon is that he had another name in college and actually DID start using Mike Walters as an alias, but liked it so much he adopted it as his actual name. Note that when he's talking to Matt while at Glacier with Edgar, he notes that nobody called him that in college. (Now, this is specifically about the nickname "Mikey," but still.) He's very particular about the name too - putting a lot of stock into how it aligns with his personality. Michael, Mike, Mikey, M-Dawg, and MW all seem to identify with their names in a personal way. (Mikey even has a comment at one point about how "Mike" is the perfect name for his personality, almost as if he picked it.)

Then there's Michael and MW. You're absolutely right about Michael's shirtlessness - he's also deeply proud of his chest hair, which also screams transmasc to me. Furthermore, the ENTIRE cowboy thing to me seems like embracing the masculinity that was denied to him pre-transition. Might I also point out the line "I can give you tips, too, on relaxing so the voice gets lower and more gravelly"?

Mike seems oddly invested in the idea of seeming masculine, too - he explicitly seeks out masc4masc partnerships, which could be him seeking validation of the fact that he's seen as masculine.

I also want to point out that two of Mike's deepest, most ride-or-die friendships were with the two canonically trans characters in the show, Anne and Jam. Transfem/nonbinary/transmasc solidarity at its finest.

can you elaborate why you think the "tehm" label makes no sense?

i'm a younger gen z gay who wants to make a tehm blog because i've spent the past few months lurking in gender critical spaces & have first-hand experience with the ugly sides of gender ideology. and i also empathize with the radfems.

definitely agree that all the prominent tehms on this side are disgusting, because:

1.) they're all millennials.

2.) they're all white anglo westerners.

3.) they're all porn/masturbation/grindr addicts.

4.) i get slight femphobic vibes from them. idk if it's intuition or something, but something tells me they are those toxic masc4mascs who like to shit on random gnc gays and rub their preferences in our faces. just a gut feeling.

5.) they are misogynistic as fuck.

6.) they are very selfish, insufferable and don't care about anybody but themselves. zero integrity, morals or beliefs. pathetic.

which is precisely why i want to make a blog and use the tehm label. to redefine what it means to be a tehm. they are the old generation, i am the new generation. i want to prove that we aren't all like them.

first of all, "tehm", originally conceived by the gendies, makes even less sense than "terf". we're not excluding anyone, homosexuality isn't a political position.

i don't think this is a generational thing that makes the tehmmies unsavoury (to say the least), i was born in 1998 and i truly don't think the generations nursed on internet access are gonna save this for us. in general i think it's very misguided to ascribe politics to generational groups but w/e

they are not. i could easily name 4-5 members/orbiters of the tehm crowd that don't fit this description

i think i understand where you're coming from, but don't focus on this too much. i truly don't know or care to position myself within a masc-fem spectrum bc i don't think i (or a majority of gays) fit neatly there. plus, feminine men, while they don't deserve all the horrible shit they get, are not inherently more progressive. so many of them fall for the gender-id trap and become militant queer activists, past a point where you can attribute all responsibility to mascs who pushed them to it.

i think you'll find this is true of men in general, and has a particular intense variant in gay men.

assuming i'm at least a little bit older than you, with at least a year or two more experience in offline and online GC/LGB circles, i'd really caution you against doing something like "reclaiming the tehm label". these internet micro-identities do not serve you, they fundamentally don't matter to anyone beyond a few dozen chronically online freaks, you don't need this in your life. you don't need a blog for this cause. focus on proving you're not like them by the way you treat the women in your life and how you conduct your personal relationships with both other homosexuals and the world at large. i know it's easier and more fun to dick around on tumblr but then at least be aware of how insignificant that is if you're going down that route. if my blog got termed tomorrow the net impact on society would be zero, and this will apply to yours as well. hope some of that helps.

i like the implication in that person's post that the trade off with amc studio heads for showing gay sex & romance is that one of them has to have short hair. like preproduction meetings where they're storyboarding sam reid showing ass & rolin is like yea so I'm thinking of adding a part right before that where jacob will suck on sam's fingers, and then the team of executives is like 'hm ok. but as a trade off for the inclusion of Fingers In His Mouth Thursday can we make this a little less fem by giving jacob period typical hair for a black man.'

amazing scenarios to imagine, truly what would we do without our most talented posters

i just think overall it's such a narrow view of what constitutes feminine and masculine, as if there is only one way for people to fit into these categories, as if they even are clear-cut categories and not a spectrum which most of us tend to shift around on through our lives

but also SO funny to me that they are upset about the actors not being pretty enough, like assad falls much closer to twink on the twink-butch spectrum than anything else lol

TC reread chapter 3, some thoughts

(Be warned: if you like Andrew, it’s best to just ignore this post and keep scrolling. I’m not a fan of this character and I don’t hold back on my opinions here)

Both Laurie and Ralph started their careers at the bottom of the army & merchant navy hierarchies despite having an “educated” accent. Another similarity and shared experience!

When Laurie asks to see his x-rays, the charge-nurse replied “I know what you are, reading your notes and getting half-baked ideas. Shakespeare says a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.” This reminds me of Ralph’s story about Alec admonishing him for reading medical anatomy books. No wonder Laurie’s like: there’s nothing wrong with that 😤😤😤

“No one discussed what he had really felt; they took it out on other things.” Yep. True for like everyone in this entire book 😂

Poor Laurie, fighting the drugs because he nearly outed himself on that ship when he was drugged out of his mind, called Ralph a “dearie” and turned him down with a flirty smile 😏 (I wonder if he ever decides to call Ralph “dearie” again, perhaps while they are on holiday, lying on the deck of a little sailboat? “Yes dearie, I’m ready this time” 🤗)

Also, Laurie remembers finding Ralph’s concern for him on the ship “very flattering” and “reflected that he [Laurie] was filthy and unshaved”, and thus proposes “some other time” 😏👀 Like, Ralph is hovering over him, desperately hoping he might still make it out alive, and Laurie is lying there, casually revealing that he’s been considering the bearded man in front of his as a potential lover and decided that he can’t do it now because he hasn’t shaved yet and his leg is a mess 😅 (but also, an early hint that Laurie will be hesitant to date Ralph because he is afraid of being not good enough for Ralph 😭😭😭)

Love the water = queerness metaphor in this book. Laurie the champion swimmer, not wanting to swim because it is not allowed 😭

And after the surgery, Laurie is doped out of his mind, all inhibitions removed. The first we see this happen, he thinks about sex with the bearded captain (Ralph), the second time we hear about this, he recites queer poetry and invites a nurse to bed, and now he is rambling to Nurse Adrian about how “there was a man at school” with whom things would have been different from his failed relationship with Charles. Laurie’s horny-ness for Ralph is so sweet 🥹. And then telling her “it was all wrong the way they treated him” 😭😭😭

“Exit a quiet tidy patient […] enter, somewhere else, a young man with a lame leg and an unanswered question. Vital statistics have this new character something like fifty years’ expectation of life.” I like to imagine that with the stability of Ralph’s love, care, and companionship, Laurie will live to a ripe old age 💪

Laurie makes up a whole life story for Nurse Adrian, “bumpy tennis court […] a wire-haired terrier you couldn’t show” all based on her “schoolroom smile”. I write her as a repressed lesbian in one of my WIPs 😅😅😅

I love how Laurie gives Sandy a flirty smile out of pure boredom. He obviously delights in the expressing his queerness and in casually flirting with another man (as long as there are no social consequences for him)! Hilarious how he convinces himself later that he can live a chaste life. If Laurie had become a sailor like Ralph, he would absolutely go cruising in bars in foreign ports and pick up men with that dazzling smile of his. (Omg perhaps in an AU where it is Laurie who has an affair with Hazel and gets expelled….)

Also Laurie, just because you are masc4masc does not mean you can look down upon femme folks 😤😤😤

Poor Laurie crying under the covers after hearing Major Ferguson’s discussion with the visiting surgeon and understanding that he’ll be disabled forever: “Then he slipped down in bed […] soon he was able to blot his eyes on the sheet and come to the surface again” 😢

“You know, my father wasn’t faithful to my mother.” Thinking about Laurie’s abandonment trauma, and his tendency to abandon ppl before they can abandon him: Andrew prolly seemed like a “safe” choice because he seems to have no romantic prospects (he doesn’t even seem to have any close friends except Laurie). Meanwhile Ralph is popular in the queer community, he seems to have lots of romantic prospects, so Laurie felt like Ralph didn’t really need him for emotional & romantic fulfillment (until he read the suicide letter). After all, like Madge, he “was one of those that know what a man needs.”

Ugggghhhhh the book is so boring without Ralph 😩😩😩…..two more chapters to go….😫😫😫

“It was Nurse Adrian […] he felt at once that it was she all the time whom he had really wanted […] she had none of that awful knowingness; one could take one’s time with her, hesitate, and she would only be grateful.” She is innocent of queerness, has nice hands, fair hair, and BLUE eyes, and Laurie helps her with the washing up in the kitchen in the evening 👀. It’s a little sad how Laurie just replaces her with Andrew and abandons their budding friendship once he has found an equally innocent and Ralph-looking male version of her.

Also, I think the 1953 version of this chapter makes it more clear that Laurie feels very terrible and guilty about having killed people in the war. That is why he thinks it’ll be “embarrassing” to meet the C.O.s, whose hands are “clean” of blood. It is a crude metaphor, but both Laurie and Ralph have participated in both queerness and the killing, while Andrew has declared himself morally above acting upon queerness and killing Nazis. Although he “dirtied” his hands for a good cause, Laurie is feeling very down-beaten and guilty after Dunkirk, so it’s quite understandable that Andrew’s “clean” moral position seems quite aspirational and superior.

But I don’t find Andrew any more virtuous than the other characters in the novel. His moral “cleanliness” from standing above the violence is basically non-interference, doing nothing as people suffer. This doesn’t make him more virtuous or morally superior to those who were willing to get their hands dirty to take a stand against fascism. I think choosing pacifism when your country is under attack is really just choosing to escape into an illusion: the pacifist’s hands are clean indeed, but his boots are drenched in the blood of those who died because of his inaction.

Laurie and Andrew’s interactions are such fertile ground for finding Ralph/Laurie clues 🔎, like Andrew wearing a grey flannel shirt on the day Laurie first sees him. Ralph was also wearing grey flannel when they kissed in the study, on the last day Laurie saw him. And we later learn from the old photograph of Ralph that it was love at first with Andrew because Laurie recognized 19 year old Ralph in his appearance.

“The brush with Willis had fortified Laurie’s self-confidence.” Andrew’s social vulnerability and inexperience gives Laurie ample opportunity to provide protection and guidance. Like Ralph, he needs to be needed. He especially needs this ego-boost after losing both the war and his leg.

I know I’ve said this many times in the past, but I find it so telling that Laurie is jealous of the much older Dave for being Andrew’s mentor & father-figure, rather than any of the young Quakers, who’d make more reasonable romantic prospects for Andrew. He doesn’t want to be Andrew’s partner or equal, he wants to replace Dave as Andrew’s pederastic mentor.

In the 1953 edition I’m reading, Andrew whistles the Enchanter’s Theme from Swan Lake after Laurie mentions Tchaikovsky. The enchanter makes the protagonist mistake the black swan, the impersonator, for the white swan, his true love. Similarly here, Laurie does not realize that his sense of deja vu & love at first sight is because Andrew resembles Ralph, his true love.

The meeting with Andrew reminded me of that Twitter meme about how there are two kinds of ppl you’ll meet: those who are kind to you and those who are nice to you. Nice people are polite and considerate about all the little things, but unwilling to make any kind of personal sacrifice to help you when push comes to shove. Kind people may be a little blunt and severe when you first meet them, but genuinely care about your wellbeing and are willing to go through a lot of trouble to help you.

Laurie and Andrew are nice to each other, while Laurie and Ralph are kind to each other. Laurie will do anything for Ralph, once he knows what Ralph needs from him, but cannot ultimately bring himself to disavow his emotional truth & love for Ralph to let Andrew have his cake and eat it too. Ralph, however, is willing to sacrifice his dignity and happiness to give Laurie what he wants, while Andrew is unwilling to compromise his pride and moral dogmatism to understand and fulfill Laurie’s emotional needs.

Also, I will go into it in more detail once I get to chapter 15, but Andrew’s final letter to Laurie is rather rude and presumptuous. He thinks he can ask Laurie to disavow his love for Ralph and his own emotional truth, without offering Laurie anything in return, not even a continuation of their chaste friendship. Fuck off!

(This reminds me: I should write a fic where an older Laurie digs out Andrew’s letter from a box of his old things, reads it, and is like: “oh dear! I’m so glad he broke up with me. Saved me from so much future heartache. And now I have Ralph 🥰”)

omg ok so butch/femme culture here is like kind of mid HAHAH most people here are masc4masc or fem4fem here in my experience BUT i have been able to find a little butch/femme community for myself here! i have a small group of butch friends who are also into butch/femme culture which is really nice! we r always starved for butches and mascs in general so you’ll probably do very well for yourself 😂 and if u need some friends hmu!!! as far as advice goes, if you’re into going out and going to events, we have a ton of lesbian nightlife and daytime events in general so my best suggestion for finding community is going to those! you tend to run into the same people frequently which is nice. if you have instagram, follow @daveslesbianbar, @dykebeer, @dykedrag, @the_cakeboys, and @gingersbar_brooklyn they always have lil events they do

Ok, so, I like reading academic articles off of Google scholar in my free time because I'm a nerd, and I found one about Tumblr porn microblogging (there are a lot of articles about this- very established genre).

(discussion of transfemme/Gay Male identity below- very long analysis sorry)

But the article was... Shockingly bad? In an interesting way but so bad. So the thesis is- while western gays are very masc4masc, femme bottoms are a thing and we should respect it.(Again, this is a thesis I've seen plenty of times before- not a shocking post). But to prove this the author.... Looked at some Tumblr porn tag I've never heard of about "Men" who call themselves wives to other men. And I put "Men" in quotes because some of the posts were included and... This is just Sissy Porn? It's just "I'm a girl now b/c I do house work and that's girl stuff in a heterosexual context (also we're both boys but you can't ever call me a boy).

And the author can't say that because he wants to argue this is just dudes being dudes, gay men do this all the time (which fair enough, yes. You can call yourself a wife and still be gay). But many of the posts hyperfocus on gender transition as a DESIRABLE thing! Saying "I wish I could be an even better wife by getting a real pussy"... Is not gay dudes being dudes....

And I don't really care about the hyperspecificity of whether or not these random blogs are more sissy porn or more gay male porn- the real issue is that this same process of placing obvious transgender identities as homosexual is replicated in the article on obviously transgender non-Western identities.

The hijra and Travesti are both listed and those are not effeminate bottoms... the Travesti use hormones and inject silocone. The word itself is literally transvestite. Hijra meanwhile is just... Not even a little bit a sexual identity. Sure some Hijra have sex but the identity itself is more commonly associated with asexuality!

And now we get to my thesis, and the real reason for this post. So the article wants to talk about effiminite bottoms while not actually addressing that what we're actually looking at is just transfemme. And the reason WHY the author does this is the same reason why gay men in general don't view effiminite bottoms as a respectable thing- transmisogyny.

To do a very basic history- when gay men were getting respect in the post stonewall context, their main strategy of getting it was pushing out the fags, fairies, and trannies out and saying the anti-effiminate sentiment that is the primary reason for homophobia against gay men (In my opinion, this isnt an actual paper) shouldn't be thrown on them. And these identities have a massive amount of overlap, naturally. And now this author is just replicating the same violence, arguing that fags and fairies should get that sweet sweet respectability while ignoring and keeping away those bad awful trannies.

And why is it that we can't just say "There's overlap between these two?" Well, A) some people are deeply committed to whatever reason for a stable fixed queer identity- and fair enough I wouldn't want someone to analyze me as an effiminite bottom(for several reasons). And B) If we say effiminite bottoms have overlap with transfemmes... Then gay men become associated with trans women which is a net loss for gay men. So the author has to carefully dance around this because if he just says it outright, he knows he'll be ruining any chance for femme bottoms to get any respect.

Also the article ignores reblogs, and if you're doing a Tumblr Analysis, You HAVE to talk about the reblog function. Come on man, this is 101 stuff.

Cutie Pie Live Blogging

I was really looking forward to this before it aired because of the concept and how high budget it seemed. I know a bit about what happened in the first few episodes before I muted the hashtags related to the show and from the general comments I’ve seen, it seems like it takes a while for situations to like... change or progress. An episode would come out and the discussion around it would be like the same as the previous 3 episodes lol (maybe with some excitement for nsfw scenes though). I hope me binging will make that not as noticeable and that I end up really liking this. I remember everybody loving the first few episodes though, so maybe watching them will bring my own hype and excitement again.

Episode 1 (May 25)

I like Nuea and Diao’s friendship

Not to be shallow but to be shallow, how often does Zee wear suits in this? Suits do less than nothing for me, I just remember seeing a few gifsets of him in casual clothes in this show and I hope that happens often.

Oh yeah, the rebuke of this ad. Sets the tone for how kinda melodramatic the show will be (’and then everybody clapped’ vibes) but I’ll let it slide because like it’s a criticism of media punching down queer people. do wish they explicitly mentioned dark skin isn’t undesirable.

I like Kuea, as Kirin being all cool and also when he’s being snarky in his head while being Nu-Kuea

Couldn’t escape the reducing women to villains/boy-crazy trope huh? All these men and the only interactions with women thus far have been the 2 servers who were speaking about Lian (so Kuea had to be sassy to them) and the business partner who’s also clearly moves on Lian. like goddamn let girls live

Dude even Kuea’s voice sounds different when he’s with his friends vs his parents/Lian. His voice sounds to nasally when he’s speaking to Lian but it sounds much more pleasant to me when he’s speaking with school friends/Diao

Naur, Diao coming in to take care of Kuea and also the flashback to him taking over cooking from Kuea ummm they’re very cute together. The day we get two cute, soft boys as the couple in a BL... we get plenty of masc4masc couples, how about fem4fem or just softer characters

For that last car scene I was just thinking wow this is really well done but if I was reading a well-written and well-crafted novel/fic with this scene, it would’ve changed me

From the r/boys_love thread for ep 2, seems like they thought it was a let down from episode 1 but I think I enjoyed them the same amount. I didn’t find it to be too draggy, I liked the Kuea/Diao scenes and also part 4 with all the Lian/Kuea.

Also they spoke about how Lian maybe has sat at that table and watched Kuea as Kirin previously and that’s sooooo cute actually.

At first I was like aww Lian wiping away Kuea’s tears but now this kissing scene has been going on for too long like why do we need a minute of them making out like that when it’s supposed to be heartbreaking lol

What’s interesting is that the whole plot is that Lian doesn’t know the real Kuea but also, we see that Kuea doesn’t know Lian all that well either. Keeps thinking the Lian he’s met is sooo different from his Hia Lian that it can’t be him at all, doesn’t know how Lian wants to kiss him and that he loves him, doesn’t know why Lian acts the way he does etc.

Also it’s beyond me how Kuea thinks Lian doesn’t know everything despite everything literally being on Youtube and also Lian stating he knows everything.

Episode 5 (May 26)

Okay like Yi really doesn’t do anything to Diao or really even yell at him, so I’m confused why Diao doesn’t just tell him the truth about where he goes/what he does. If he doesn’t want to tell him at all, why doesn’t he communicate that?

Anyway, as always, I like Kuea taking the initiative and being bold after Lian pulls away but I’m still fastforwarding the long ass kiss, so rip the friends who have to just... sit there. They seemed to like it though, BounPrem’s characters are cute.

I think my method of having as little critical thought as possible while watching this is the best way because the character motivations is not the writer’s strongest suit lol. I think they had some quite cute moments this episode and that’ll tide me over.

Also, I haven’t watched anything with BounPrem except this and some tiktoks but Boun is seriously sooo gorgeous to me.

Episode 8 (May 26)

“I didn’t want to say [I love you] carelessly” but you said the opposite... said he didn’t love Kuea and that marriage doesn’t need love and they could live apart... I feel like they wanted the beginning to be SO DRAMATIC that it doesn’t align with the character or what he’s been saying since then

Here’s how I feel about this sex scene: I will not be watching all that but good for you. In between my fast forwarding, seems like the characters both really desired it and had fun and good for them. I am who I am so I liked seeing Kuea above Lian and kissing all over him. Also, as always, the glimpses of their rings is so good; like I’m not even into marriage like that but I guess it’s different when it’s gay

Why doesn’t he ask Liannnnnnn or why didn’t he tell his mom what he saw? Get an actual explanation instead of being haunted by those documents and decide to pretend they don’t exist and everything’s fine. Not to mention I still haven’t gotten a satisfying enough conclusion to the Kirin/Kuea’s secret identity arc because they still haven’t addressed it. Kuea still thinks Lian believes he’s in Computer Engineering for fuck’s sake.

No like why is it that this show is supposed to be new and have unique dynamics but it’s fucking up with the writing so bad that the engineering students’ antics + the 3rd couple engineering students are my favourite parts. Syn’s “I don’t usually go to places like that but if you go, I'll go too” > KueaLian and YiDiao’s sexy times where they’re hiding things from each other or being annoying.

Also, the guests are like... business people too I’m assuming? Lian was just gassed up and introduced as the new CEO or whatever, taking his dad’s place in everything, and then gets publicly rejected? Gosh lol

Anyway, skip skip skip I can’t watch this. Saw some glimpses of tears and walking away. Like I’m not even invested enough in the relationship or characters for this to be like painful or sad for me, just anxious and embarrassing.

This comment under the part 4 video by Made In Busan kinda summed up all my thoughts: “This was hard to watch but expected. They lied to each other throughout the whole relationship. The only truth they ever told each other is that they love each other but everything else was an unnecessary lie. And like Kuea said in episode 9: "love is not just about the two of us, there are many factors involved". As a kid, Lian felt insecure about not being good enough because he was just an ice delivery boy and Kuea was from a wealthy family. As an adult, Kuea lied about his studies and his singing career because he felt that he was not fancy enough for serious, businessman Lian. Lian lies to Kuea about his family property and does stuff behind his back without telling him about any of it. At least the lies that Kuea told don't really affect Lian's life, whereas Lian keeping the Keerati property thing from him is a big deal that is tied to Kuea's inheritance and wealth. It's a mess and it's true that this is not how a relationship should be so it's expected that Kuea doesn't feel comfortable being engaged to him anymore. He just wants to be his equal and for them to be honest with each other. I totally understand him but I also wish I didn't have to see Lian cry in front of all his family and friends. I'm heartbroken for both of them. I hate public proposals LOL”

I wish the show just had better writing and character development lol. Like I don’t get how in ep 2 or something Kuea called off his engagement because he was upset and wanted to show everybody who he was and then in freaking episode 11 he feels guilty for keeping secrets and not showing the real him and so he rejects the proposal.

Anyway, I’m not even that annoyed or upset because I knew it was gonna happen and the writing has been bad the whole show and I’m not invested enough, my feelings are mostly bored and yikes!

Episode 12 (May 28)

People said episode 12 is a much better ending than expected considering where episode 11 left off, so that’s good at least

Anyway, this show could’ve been so much better if this conversation of them discussing Kuea’s alternate identity was discussed a few episodes into the show and we got to see them fall in love as their true selves.

Me skipping the long ass confessions and marriage stuff because I really cannot handle that many sappy words. This show’s really pushing for marriage legality rights though and I really am curious to see if it has any irl effects (not that I’ll really be able to tell) and whether other shows will take a stance like this too. Like this show managed to say “yeah, sadly we don’t have all the rights” without veering off into depressing queer territory, so maybe other BLs might? I’d be curious to see

It’s true, the last episode is quite good. Wish some of this happened earlier so that we could’ve actually seen Kuea and Lian be themselves around each other without secrets. Throughout the show, Kuea flip-flopped so much between being forward or rebellious against Lian or being obedient and ”good”.

So much of this show felt... filler and repetitive because the overarching plot wasn’t really moving. Wish it was 10 episodes, the Kuea/Kirin stuff was wrapped up in the first few episodes, we get to see them falling in love and we can have some small internal drama here too, maybe the land deeds drama, and finally 1 external drama in episode 9 that causes conflict but we still get to see that they love each other and will fight for each other, etc. Instead, the same thing was dragged on and on and on.

Didn’t like Yi/Diao because their relationship wasn’t explained well and didn’t have much draw. I don’t like love interests like Lian and Yi, so there’s that - the actors are both quite beautiful though but still not enough to make me like the characters. Like Diao and Kuea’s friendship, as well as Lian and Yi’s. I liked Kuea’s friendship with his classmates too and how they interacted with each other, both looking out for one another but also being forthright when they didn’t like another’s behaviour. I liked Foei.

I think people really liked the makeout and nsfw scenes because apparently they had great chemistry and ease but I skipped through pretty much all of them, so that wasn’t a draw for me. I have to like the characters and be invested in the relationship to really like the more physically intimate scenes (exception: Y-Destiny Puth and Kaeng) but I didn’t like either couple like that.

Astonishing that this show was supposed to give me some uniqueness, some new dynamics and characters and plot and setting, etc. Instead, I thought the engineering friend group was endearing and NuerSyn’s few scenes were the cutest even though it was sooo typical. Although, I did end up skipping through their kissing scene too.

I was impressed by New and his acting, so I hope he does well in his next series too.

My overall feelings about this series is: mild annoyance and mile boredom and mild enjoyment.

what sort of things do you see in wolfstar fics that make you think "this was written by a straight person"

i let this sit in my inbox all day bc i didn’t wanna answer it gkdndnf basically it’s less about certain things happening and more about the tone. the way gay men talk to eachother and interact with eachother is different than how we act with straight people for example or how straight people interact with eachother. if you aren’t a gay man you’re bound to get some stuff wrong on accident. that doesn’t make you a bad person or a homophobic person. most of the time it’s an honest mistake and no cause for alarm, it’s just a little frustrating every now and then

there are definitely some things that stick out to me as avoidable right off the bat tho. for example, people like to write homophobia in their works bc it’s the 70s and 80s even tho those years were some of the most important for gay movements and community as a whole. in those days, when it was far more dangerous to be out and proud, people did it anyway, and surrounded themselves with people who supported them, so it’s really weird to me when people claim there has to be homophobia as a main component in their stories. obviously, some of these are written by gay people interested in gay history and wanting to be realistic about it, but i think sometimes people just want to hurt gay men in their fics.

some other stuff that comes to mind:

- when both if them are super masc. it’s the 70s and 80s for crying out loud! masc4masc gay dudes are the most annoying people in the world and in a lot of gay circles, at least the cool ones, they really aren’t taken seriously. when a fic has remus and sirius being hyper aware of masculinity, it’s pretty cringeworthy. like why have u characterized this dude as the guy i have blocked on grindr for calling me a fag

- or when sirius is a womanizer or has only ever dated women before and is like weirded out by the idea that he’s gay (u don’t see this as much with remus) while it’s true that gay men struggle with internalized homophobia, especially back then, it’s a real pain in the ass to have to read about how much a gay character hates themself for being gay.

- when dom/sub roles leave the bedroom. like, when a bottom is sweet and innocent and precious uke and when a top is hypermasculine and stoic and whatever and they both act like a daddy and a baby all the time. you see this a lot with folks who have no sexual experience and no experience with gay people outside of the internet. very yaoi-brained

- that being said tho the opposite is also true. when people are so scared of fetishizing gay men they forget that we are sexually active at all. this is excusable with wolfstar because of all the trauma lol

anyway that’s all that’s coming to mind right now. i guess my main point is if you aren’t a gay man, you shouldn’t just assume you know what we want or how we interact with eachother based on fanfiction. or even really based on one persons word!! i’m not the spokesperson for every gay man after all, maybe other dudes would disagree with me. honestly, the best thing to do when you’re writing anything you don’t have experience with is ask someone who does. and if ur really unsure, pay a sensitivity reader!

Quick question, do you think all muscular or fit gays are stuck up? I feel like they are.

I think most guys who want “masc4masc” or more masculine men are (especially those on dating apps), but who am I to judge? I’ve met a couple of guys who are fit and they’ve been nice to me. Would they date me? Maybe. I haven’t asked them personally. I’m too nervous around them lol. Although, I did have one guy that was fit tell me he wouldn’t date me because I’m “unhealthy looking” which bummed me out. But we’re no longer friends because he was very abusive and only wanted to be my friend so he can look good.

To answer your question honestly, I think most of the toxic side of the gay community are full of guys who care more about looks than the actual person. Stuck up? Maybe. Would their thoughts change if I were built like a god or a twink? Possibly.

But, I will say - especially from guys who I follow on Tiktok or Twitter - there are gay guys who are muscular or fit who actually care and put in the effort to date guys like me. I still have body dysmorphic problems, myself (which I can say the majority of the world does), but if they want me or want to get to know me as a person, then I’d actually love to get to know them. Tbh, yes I am attracted to fit guys, but I’m also attracted to dad-bods/bears and tall skinny guys. But I do find someone attractive once we share an emotional connection. (I guess you can say I’m demisexual)

In almost ever emgk fic that includes switching em starts out only topping and it isn’t until feelings get involved that they start switching roles, is there any scenario you can imagine where it would be the other way around, and kells starts out only topping?

i think it's bc em is generally considered to be the more dominant/more masculine of the two of them (which almost definitely has troubling implications lmajfghg we don't need to go there) BUT kells is very much a king of toxic masculinity as well LOL so i can see both of them in that position of "i REFUSE to bottom fuck you for asking hashtag masc4masc"

and also you can think abt it like, em has more experience and has had more time to work through his internalized homophobia and learn what he likes, and remembers exactly what he felt like in kells' position (first coming to terms w/ his sexuality) so is patient w/ him and lets him dictate what they do. he also still can't believe kells ever agreed to start sleeping w/ him in the first place so he's like "whatever you're comfortable with is more than enough for me."

About butch and femme, some of it confuses me. What if you're the most butchest (in how you look and act) lesbian out there but if you're not attracted to femmes then you're not butch? (And vice versa for feminine lesbians) And what if you're attracted to feminine women but not necessarily the ones who ID as femmes. How could you even tell if they're femmes (by this definition) or just feminine women? Also the lesbians out there who are fem4fem and butch4butch. Is that technically wrong?

I don’t think there is a single lesbian in the world who would be like “I date feminine women, not femmes though”, because well ... we love other lesbians, we can relate to each other because of both our same-sex attraction and our lack of attraction to men, so that scenario you mentioned is quite funny to me. Now to answer your other questions, yes technically the “fem4fem” and “butch4butch” lesbians are wrong, in the sense that they use these words wrongly. Those two lesbian identities are linked to one another, they cannot exist without the other. There’s a great deal of understanding though for the masculine lesbians who do that, because masc4masc lesbians are not numerous and they don’t do it out of animosity toward feminine women like feminine women often do it toward masculine women (which is more often than not the feeling behind “fem4fem”). Usually those who call themselves “butch4butch” feel rejected and alienated by feminine wlw because of their gender non conformity, so they feel better with a masculine girlfriend, they mutually recognize each other and love each other in their gender non conformity.

Whereas “fem4fem” lesbians will often just feel completely disgusted by butches (and stags/tomcats), which is something that definitely doesn’t make them femmes - who are defined both by their femininity as lesbians but also their attraction to butches - and something that translates some internalised lesbophobia as well. I hope this clarified the whole subject ! :) Xx
