Mess Up

You look at the stack of plastic boxes piled up in the middle of the living room. A mixture of gray, purple, and transparent blue bins filled with various ornaments, wall decor, and table accessories. A pile of black trash bags filled with garland lays hap-hazardly next to them. Jack must have gotten them down from the attic before he left for work this morning.

You had asked him the day before to do that for you. Usually, you could do so yourself, but considering you’re eight months pregnant, you figured it probably wasn’t the best idea–not that Jack would ever have let you do it anyway.

It’s been a bit boring around the house lately since Jack’s been working extra hours. He’s been insistent on putting a bit more work in so the two of you can fatten up your savings account for when the baby gets here. That way, as he says, there will be more opportunity for him to stay home with you after you give birth.

He’s so thoughtful, always thinking ahead about what’s best for you and the baby in the long run. You have no idea how you got so lucky.

You smile to yourself, shaking your head as you go to pry the lid off of the bin at the top of the stack. A small sticky note sits on top of it, and you smile as you immediately recognize the handwriting.

Should be home early today. I Love you little Mama, have a good day.

You smile giddily as you stare at the loopy writing, full of love.

You have most of the decor up within a few hours; all that’s left is decorating the tree.

You pick up a strand of lights out of a gray bin and look up at the tip of the tree with a scowl. You hate putting the first strand up alone. When Jack’s here, you always make him do it since he’s a good bit taller than you.

You look around the room, trying to find something you can use to step on or lift the lights up. Your eyes land on a chair in the dining room. Perfect.

You drag the chair over the base of the tree and take a step back, making sure it’s lined up with where you need to be. There’s no way you’re climbing up onto that thing just for it to be in the wrong spot.

It looks about right.

With a little grunt work–and a lot of maneuvering around your massive belly–you manage to get your knees on the seat, and from there, you stand up the rest of the way. You smile proudly as you look at the top of the tree, which is now only a couple inches taller than you. You feel almost rebellious, as stupid as that may sound.

You reach up and begin to loop the first bit around the top. Just as you get it secured, you hear a faint jingling sound coming from the front hall. Your face lights up. Your husband is home.

Maybe you’ll make him do this part afterall. Your arms ache and you’re already almost out of breath from holding them up above you for so long. Letting them down, you balance the rest of the strand down on empty branches so it won’t fall.

“I’m home, darlin’, " Jack calls as he steps through the door.

“I’m in here,” you call back excitedly. You can’t wait for him to see what you’ve spent your day doing.

You turn around in the chair and face toward the living room entrance, waiting for him so you can see his reaction. He steps into the room and you smile widely at him, only to be confused when his mouth drops open just slightly. He looks upset, and your stomach drops.

“Hey!” He barks quickly. “Wh-what the hell do you think you’re goddamn doin’?” He suddenly bolts toward you and lifts you by your underarms to bring you to the floor. You’re back on your feet before you can even register what happened.

You’re taken aback at his loud tone and rushed actions, a small hurt settling deep in your chest before you can stop it. You look up at him with a frown, disappointed in yourself for making him unhappy, for making him use a tone like that in the first place. He never raises his voice at you.

Your eyes are watering even though you’re still confused, your lip quivering as you look ashamedly up at him. Does he not like the decorations? Were you supposed to wait until he got home to start? Did you mess up?

He looks almost angry, and the thought is enough to send a pang of panic and regret throughout your entire body. You messed up. You messed up, you messed up.

You’re suddenly set back to your teenage years again. Back to feeling tiny and pathetic as people tell you how annoying you are, how you can’t ever do anything right, how you’re nothing more than a childish inconvenience.

You see your father, ignoring you as usual, only talking to you to complain about something or another. Your mother, drunk, ready to spill her nightly sob-story because she’s the only one allowed to have one. Your grandma, telling you to stop being such a crybaby because she doesn’t understand that you hurt and you just want a break.

You see yourself, forced to take it all, bottle it up, and never complain. Back to having to act happy for the sake of others, but not too happy, because then you’re on everyone’s nerves. Back to trying your hardest through it all to be patient, understanding, and kind, because if you’re anything less than that, you’re a spoiled brat.

Back to feeling worthless, hating yourself, messing up.

You open your mouth to say something–you’re not sure what–but all that comes out is a pathetic blubber as your tears spill over.

Jack’s eyes widen as he realizes what he’s done.

“Oh, no, no, no, no,” he says, holding you close to him. “I’m so sorry baby, you know I didn’t mean to snap at you,” you can hear the shame in his voice, but all you can think is I did this, it’s my fault, I messed up.

His arms are wrapped tightly around you as you sob into his chest.

All of your emotions feel heightened with your pregnancy, and thinking about your childhood was finally the thing to set you off. Jack is well acquainted with your past, but you still wish he didn’t have to see you breaking down over it like this.

You know that he didn’t mean it, and that’s why you’re so frustrated with yourself. He’s never treated you like that. Never has, never will. You take in a few shuddering breaths as you think about that fact.

He rubs soothing circles on your back and mutters genuine little sorry’s and uplifting praises to you as you try to reign it all in. After a moment, your breath starts to even out and your tears stop flowing so aggressively. You hold onto him but lean back so you can look into his eyes, full of concern.

“‘M sorry,” you say quietly, still feeling a wave of shame. He tuts and softly shakes his head at you before smoothing your hair down.

He kneels down on one knee in front of you and takes his stetson off before sliding both of his hands up to cup your cheeks. His brows are furrowed and he has a look of sincerity that makes your heart skip a beat.

“No, baby,” he says, looking at you adoringly. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’a raised my voice at you just ‘cause I got scared. You ain’t got nothin’ to be sorry ‘bout, sweet thing.” he assures you sincerely. “You jus’ need to be a little more careful now is all.”

“Tha’s my baby in there,” he reminds you, nodding to your stomach. “’s very important to me to know that both of my girls are safe while I’m gone.”

You muster up a smile and nod at him, appreciating that he’s taking the time to make sure you know what he’s thinking. He smiles warmly back at you.

“I am sorry, though, I don’t know what I was thinking,” you apologize through the lump still partially lodged in your throat. You avoid eye contact as you say it, but you know he can see right through you–can see exactly where your head is stuck right now.

“I swear you didn’t mess up, baby. You’re doing everything right. My perfect girl. You know that?” he asks, lifting his brows to emphasize his point.

You sniffle a bit and nod at him. You don’t know how your love for him continues to grow so much every day.

“I really ain't mad at you, angel, I’ll never be mad at you.” He smiles wider at you and strokes your cheek with his thumb.

You nod at him again, leaning into his hand.

He sits up just enough to plant a delicate kiss on your forehead, and then on your lips, lingering there as if he could pour all of his love into you through such an action. When he pulls back, you have a genuine smile on your face.

“Alright, pretty little Mama,” he says, letting a hint of humor into his tone. “Let’s get the rest of them lights up for ya.”

It kinda sucks that you get a whole dorm room in Scarlet/Violet, and you don't even get to do the one cool thing every student would do with their dorm room - personalize it!!

So I spent an absurdly long time painstakingly editing someone's character out of a screenshot of the empty room, until it looked pretty much seamless...and then proceeded to just scribble over it anyway dkjfg. This is just a concept of what my trainer Sierra would have in her room. It would take way too long to clean it up, so it's just gonna look sketchy for now -u- But I really like what I did with it!

details/descriptions under the cut!

On the bed: Two lavender pillows, two throw blankets, a shiny Minior plush, and a shiny Torchic plush. If you were to interact with the bed, the text would say "There are a few small red and green feathers on the bed..." Sierra's Hawlucha sometimes takes naps there with her kdjfg.

On the left wall: A Froslass poster, inspired by a drawing I once received as a gift.

On the center wall: A map of Paldea with lots of sticky notes, photos, and articles, all connected by strings. Here she keeps track of things related to her search for new Mega Stones (specifically one for Bisharp).

On the right wall: A whiteboard with random notes and doodles. The one of Sierra and her Bisharp is the most prominent

I've been working on a doll house. Sort of. It's an old Barbie house that was missing a lot of parts.

One of the things I've done is build new parts out of paperboard and foam board, and then cover them in paper.

You know, and I know, that when you get paper wet with glue it wrinkles. There are a few ways to get around this.

One is Tombow Mono Multi glue.

The trick to using this glue for wrinkle-free paper application is to squeeze out a bunch of glue not on the paper, but on what you want to put paper on, smooth it out as well as you can (make sure you get the surface you're wanting to apply paper to completely covered) and then let it dry until it's transparent. It'll stay tacky.

Then apply your paper and smooth it out.

That's how I applied scrapbook paper directly to the plastic wall as wallpaper, and colored printer paper (which is very prone to wrinkles when wet) to both paperboard (recycled food box) and foam board to create the refrigerator door and a curio cabinet.

I find the Tombow Mono Multi is less prone to wrinkling than glue sticks, too, as long as you let the Mono Multi dry fully before applying paper.

Tombow Mono Multi can also be applied to the back of plastic-coated stickers that have lost their stickiness, like the ones that are default to this doll house, and then those stickers can be reapplied.

It's worth noting that you don't get a second chance with this glue. Once you've stuck something, it's not coming off cleanly. If you put the paper on wrong it'll tear to bits if you try to peel it off again. Tombow Mono Multi is very good at sticking.

Another option is double sided tape. If you're going to be doing something like gluing shelves to the paper covering, then full coverage adhesion is better, like with the Tombow.

If you're doing a decorative or small item (in this case, the faux drawer fronts on the curio cabinet), then double sided tape is a great option with no drying time.

I like this one, because it's the same width as the foam layer between the sheets of paper on foam board and because it's easy to remove from plastic toys.

I like to use this to stick small decorative items to the shelves, too. It's easy to remove from plastic surfaces, but it can rip the paper like I have on the curio cabinet.

Every deco item in the doll house has a little bit of this tape on it to keep it in place but I can remove and reposition those items as I wish.

I learned about both of these products watching people make those little room box kits years ago. You know those little bitty fabric things you're supposed to sew or use a wet glue to adhere and then wait for it to dry? This tape is an excellent alternative to that, too.

Like this kit, for example (https://amzn.to/3YCLz7Z), I would use Tombow Mono Multi to apply the wallpaper so it would go on nice and smooth, then use double-sided tape to put the fabric on the chair, adhere the table cloth, and make the little pillow.

such a random observation but it somehow fits into the whole "we live in a overheating fascist revival free market microplastics dystopia" thing: i use a lot of these little page marker index post-it thingies for annotating books – these guys ⬇️ – and i need to stock up because im running low

anyway it seems that the paper ones (on the right) are kind of hard to find? they also dont often come in handy dispensers like the plastic ones (on the left) AND they tend to be more expensive??

and like. yeah, its likely a supply and demand thing. the plastic ones probably just sell more. they're also transparent so you can stick them anywhere without covering up text, or even use them as a non-permanent solution for highlighting things in library books for example, but i dont know. it just feels so weird and strangely wasteful to use little plastic sheets as bookmarks when paper sticky notes have been around forever since the 70s. and obviously, paper post-its aren't super eco-friendly either, but jesus christ does everything have to be made from oil?

Hello funny furries in my phone!!

I am in a bit of a sticky situation where I currently can't work because of acquired spinal injury and chronic illness - however need money for doctors appointments and imaging that I can't afford on government benefits. I am unable to take large amounts of work at the moment so will only be offering limited slots of the following, but may take more on if I am handling the workload okay.

More about my situation

I have a family history of spinal issues (my dad had major spine surgery when I was 6, with his side of the family having consistent acquired spine injuries going back generations) and unfortunately my turn on the family spine came a good 10 years before 'normal'. I seem to have 2 separate issues co-occurring in the T and S sections of my spine which are causing gradual motor function loss and a LOT of pain. I have also had a mystery fatigue/pain condition which we are now about to confirm as fibromyalgia since about age 15.

After my legs nearly gave out at work last November during a particularly bad pain episode at work, I went and got an intial MRI that showed irregularities in my spine in the areas my pain comes from. I have gotten much worse since then so need new MRI's with added contrast dye which brings the price up quite a bit (it will be $4-500+). I quit my job in February under the impression that I just needed to rest for a bit and could go to a less intense job after 3 weeks. I honestly don't think I would have lasted much longer if I didn't quit anyway because I was taking close to or the 24 hr limit of panedeine forte at work just for the 8 hour shift (needed to drive so couldn't take stronger opioids + opioids make me feel HORRIBLE). I think my body was holding out until I had a period of rest because I began declining quite rapidly between February and now.

I have been using crutches to help walk/stand for about a month and a half now and I can't stand for more than an hour max (30+ mins is starting to push it tho), which is a HUGE contrast to 6 months ago where I was standing 32+ hours a week and moving around constantly. I've also gone from being able to comfortably lift 25-30kg to struggling with less than 10. These limitations knock out a LOT of jobs I'm qualified for (read: non-skilled, physical labour) - so trying to find answers for what's happening to me is very difficult and slow because I can't afford to just throw myself at specialists; and with the unofficial and slow death of bulk billing in Australia even my GP is getting too expensive. My partner is also disabled and receives DSP from the government so is not in a position to help finance my medical care because he is barely affording his own.

You're of course under absolutely no obligation to support me (and this isn't a sympathy post), but sharing this around would mean the world to me because I REALLY need to get some money together for medical care.

So I have 3 absolute gamechanger items

4. Sticky notes (the normal yellow ones and also transparent ones)

Bonus: this is how I use them

Every subject has a colour associated with it and I colour the little square on my todo list :) (what happens if I run out of colours? I STOP TAKING CLASSES BECAUSE WHAT THE FUCK)

Whenever I write something I leave some space in the top right corner, this is where I put a sticky note with some additions/the most important stuff and a coloured line that shows which subject it belongs to :)

And the symbols above it are a key for how I structure the todo list for my thesis! The wrong E means it's easy, the ? Means i have no clue and need someone else's help, the square with the line means I need an image and the star is for the complicated tasks :)

Dunno who needs this but I recently learned there exists these transparent plastic film like sticky notes and they're a game changer for quickly copying schematics and diagrams into my notes. Especially since I'm studying from some pretty old (and super rare) print plane manuals (cause my local plane museum lets me play with some of their stuff) from like 1918 to WW2 & I'd really rather not mark in em. :'3

I just make sure to get the backs unsticky (via lint from sticking it my shirt) so they don't damage the books & just use stickers later to tak them into my notebooks. They're also helping me break down more complex wiring diagrams to their basic circuits :3

how do you get your traditional art to retain its color once you photograph it?? Everything looks so vibrant and well lit it’s honestly incredible.

I was originally going to have a straight forward answer, but I think this is a good opportunity for me to share how I go about preparing my artworks for social media. Disclaimer! I'm not an expert in photo manipulation. This is what I learned after doing some research and experimenting. Capturing the artwork

I have to be transparent though that I do not photograph my work, I scan it! I use a CanoScan LiDE220. I've had it for 6 years. This is why I am able to retain the artwork's texture. However, the result of the scan is very washed out, and is not accurate to the artwork's actual colors. Example below:

The left image is the raw result from the scanner, while the right is an edited version that I have posted. As seen, the left image is washed out. So, to the best of my ability, I change different parameters of the image to get the closest to the real artwork. I use photoshop to edit the image, but it is possible to do it in any photo manipulation software (or you can get a cracked ver-) Editing the photo 1) Levels

Levels is where you manipulate the values of the image. The left is for your lightest values, and the right is for the darkest values. Moving the left slider alters the lightest values of the image. Moving the middle slider alters your middle values, and same goes for the right slider for the darkest values. I often slide the middle slider to the right to darken the image. I hardly touch the other two. Alternatively, you can use Curves to darken the image, it is a more intricate version of Levels and gives you the most control. I am not super familiar with it, so I cannot talk about it. 2) Hue and Saturation

Hue controls the most dominant color of your image. Saturation controls the intensity of the colors in your image. I often bump up the saturation of my images. There are times I also alter lightness just ta bit for sketch sheets, to slightly washout colors (mainly the yellow of the paper) 3) Color Balance

Color balance indicates which of the colors in each slide is more intense globally. Meaning that if you put the slider closer to blue, then all yellow tones will be washed out. Sometimes the Hue and Saturation sliders aren't enough, so I use Color Balance to tweak it a bit. 4) Brightness and Contrast

Brightness refers to how light or dark the piece is overall. Contrast refers to the difference of the lightest and darkest values. I often use this when manipulating sketches, this is to make the inks pop out more. Other stuff that might be relevant

every piece has it's own set parameters, I eyeball everything lol. I do not have any "set values"

If there is a specific part of the image that needs editing, I "Mask" that part of the image out. Meaning that only a specific part of the image will be altered. Masking does not permanently change the image, so you can easily delete it if needed. Crash course in "Masking": the visibility of the image is set in black and white. The black parts of the mask is hidden, while the white is seen (Image below.) So for example here, only the white parts will be affected by the color balance

as much as my scanner is helpful, it cannot scan large pieces. One of the largest sizes I am able to scan is A4. So, I have only been using that size or smaller. If you want to invest in a scanner, you should consider the sizes of paper you often use. You can also "stitch" the artwork together (i believe photoshop has this, but it might be a hassle. I can't speak about this because I haven't tried it.)

If you are doing paintings on a canvas, you will have to photograph it There is no other way around lol, paintings like those are really photographed. Professional artists either have their own photoshoot set, or they find a place where they can have it photographed.

Sticky notes, or paper with luminosity aren't picked up by the scanner. I've been struggling with this one for awhile lmao. Altering it with the aforementioned steps alone don't give the result I want. I use layer modes too. Still currently experimenting. Example is below, original is a neon orange sticky note.

Mickey Garcia is the type of person who is not particularly fond of flowery, over-the-top, grand gestures. He finds them quite cringey if he’s being completely transparent.

Instead, he firmly believes that multiple tiny, but so very meaningful gestures go a longer way.

He owes a lot to his mom. In more ways than one. But in the love-department, she really set the standard.

She was the one who lead by example, showing her babyboy the importance of compassion, patience, and the constant effort to win someone’s heart.

So as soon as you met him and every day ever since, he’s made it his mission to win your heart, and when he did, his goal has been to keep it.

He’s not really a casual-dating type of person. It might be his upbringing but he is dating for marriage.

So, he holds you and your heart with gentleness. He simultaneously sees the world—his world—in you and wants to give you the world.

He absolutely makes it his goal to shower you in his love and admiration. He sprinkles it all through the day.

There’s something about the challenge of making your heart flutter that he welcomes so openly and takes very seriously. It’s the same feeling you give him every time he thinks of you…which is often. The thought of you feeling butterflies because of him? A source of utter pride and joy.

It's the little things for Mickey "Fanboy" Garcia that amount to a lot.

It's the small reminders that he tells you he loves you.

Words of Affirmation

Mickey is the type of person who refuses to throw the "L" word out liberally. Instead, he'll say in other way.

He is such an observant person. He is one of the best WSOs the US Navy has every seen for that very reason. So, a lot of time, when he sees even the slightest oddity in your mood or behaviour, he'll check in on you. He also just really wants to know.

"How are you feeling?"

"Is everything okay?"

"How was your day?"

He genuinely loves to listen to anything you have to say. Again, being an observant person and one of the best WSOs, he naturally strives to take in as much information as possible. That's especially true because you are one of the most important parts of his life.

And because he's very observant and genuinely very interested, his very much an active listener. Whenever you tell him a story, he'll nod, shake his head, roll his eyes, sigh--all depending on the situation, and all affirming your feelings and experiences.

"Right. Right."

"No she didn't"

"That was not okay,"

And he'll always end these types of conversations with a beautifully genuine smile and a "thank you for sharing this with me".

"Fanboy" is a multi-layered call sign. Mickey is your biggest fan, and will be so encouraging in anything you do.

"Go for it!"

"You've got this"

"I'm so proud of you"

He often uses terms of endearment. His go-tos are "love" and "baby". His favourite, though, is "mi cielo" (my sky/heaven).

Because yours and Mickey's schedule are often busy and conflicting, he definitely leaves little notes around the place for you to find.

"Have a great day :)" he'll place a sticky note on his pillow when he has an early morning and had to run without kissing you goodbye.

"Drive safe!" he'll write on a scrap piece of paper and place it on the overhead sun visor in your car.

"Thinking of you," he'll text in the middle of a busy day to let you know.

That all being said, he was definitely the first one to say "I love you." And when he does say it, he really, really means it.

Physical Touch

Mickey enjoys physical touch but is definitely not a PDA type of person.

He uses physical touch more like a non-verbal communication to comfort or affirm and reaffirm you.

In public, he loves to hold your hand, giving you an occasional squeeze to let you know so many things without even saying a word. I've got you. I'm here. I'm glad you're here too. I love you.

In private, he can be a pretty affectionate person.

HUGS. Especially embraces where he'll just hold you in his arms, his chin rested on your head. The perfect position to kiss the top of your head.

Speaking of kisses...he probably can't choose a single favourite. Other than your lips, he'll enjoy a forehead kiss. A kiss on the neck. A kiss on your hands.

He loves a good cuddle.

His favourite cuddle position is probably when he's on his back. Your legs are intertwined, your arm draped over his torso, and your head on his chest. For him, there's something about you clinging to him that he loves so much. It makes him feel wanted--needed, even.

He's also down for a good spoon. Most of the time, he's the big spoon because he loves to hold you in his arms. Again, he loves the feeling of keeping you safe.

But when he is a little spoon, he enjoys it wholeheartedly. You holding him in your arms gives him butterflies and makes him giddy. He likes it a lot but will probably never admit it to you because he loves holding you and knows you love being held.

Ultimately, him holding you and you holding him brings him great comfort. Especially because when he isn't deployed, physical touch lets him know you are really there. That he is with you and you are with him. Sometimes it all feels like a dream to him. He often wonders how he's gotten so lucky. And if he's dreaming it all. And physical touch grounds him in reality.

Gifts

Mickey "Fanboy" Garcia loves to SPOIL the ones he loves.

He's a big fan--all puns intended--of buying you flowers.

Bringing them home after work with a "honey, I'm home".

Sending them to you in the middle of the day with a note.

"Thinking of you" it will say when he's stationed elsewhere.

"This is your reminder to stop and smell the roses" it will say in a particularly busy day or week.

Fanboy is not just a fan of pop culture stuff, but I genuinely think he's a pretty nerdy guy. I imagine that he's really into learning new things, reading books, watching documentaries. So, you'll often find random books appearing around your shared apartment with little notes attached.

"I remember you talking about this"

"I think you'll enjoy this"

"This reminds me of you"

"This reminds me of us"

In general, I think he'd buy little things that remind him of you. And yes, that includes fan merch like graphic tees and Funko Pops.

But he'll buy big things too. Like a large stuffed toy that he'll say you can cuddle with when he's gone. He'll even give you a bottle of his cologne to spray onto it.

And if you read my first fic, you know this man is a sucker for making mixtapes. He loves music and enjoys compiling songs that remind him of you, of your relationship, and the things he wants you to know and feel.

He'd give you the world if he could. In fact he's made if his life-long mission to try.

Quality Time

Quality time is Mickey "Fanboy" Garcia's primary love language. You can't convince me otherwise!!!

As his callsign suggests, he is a BIG fanboy. He's part of multiple fandoms and most of all he's a big fan of you.

You share common interests, so whenever an event or opportunity comes up, he'll think of you and will ask you if you would like to go with him. It's a win-win for him, to be honest. Spending time with his love and indulging in his interests? Amazing!

"They're in town next weekend! Do you want me to get us tickets?"

"The new movie is out! Are you free to go to the midnight screening?"

When you're both free, he loves to plan vacations with you. Being the amazing nerd he is, going on holidays is never just about going to the tourist-y places, but actually enjoying the local people, areas, food, histories, and cultures.

He is also absolutely content with staying in with you and just spending time together.

Especially because he gets deployed, he cherishes every second he gets to spend with you.

His favourite thing to do is settle on the couch with you, cuddle in a blanket, and binge-watch shows and movies.

He'll also make sure that he documents everything. He loves taking candid pictures of you.

"Say cheese" he'll tell you when you turn around to check why he isn't walking beside you anymore.

"Wait. Stay right there. The light is hitting you perfectly." he'll rush to find the perfect frame.

And even when you two are separated by distance, he'll make sure to squeeze in any free time he has to take a quick video call--or two--with you.

Most of the time, it's when he's commuting from place to place.

"Hi love," he'll glance at you on his phone screen, flashing you with his beautiful smile before quickly turning his attention back on the road.

"Hi baby," you'll respond. "Why is your shirt off?" you laugh at the strange circumstance.

"On my way to the beach. Something about team training," he'll tell you casually before his car comes to a stop at a red light. "Why? Are you complaining?" he'll wink.

What else can I say? The man comes alive when he's with people he loves. Especially you. It's one of his greatest joys.

Acts of Service

Acts of service is also one of his more prominent love languages--I mean, this man has dedicated a lot of his life to be in service of others.

He DEEPLY wants to provide for those he loved ones. And that includes you.

Feeling particularly tired and need a few extra minutes of sleep? He's an early bird anyway, but he will not hesitate to put the kettle on and make you breakfast.

Spent most of the day staring at a screen and working? He'll bring you sliced fruit and a glass of water.

Love washing and drying clothes but hate folding them and putting them away? He's your man.

Again, this man is so perceptive and observant.

And my goodness, he takes INITIATIVE.

There are so many little things that you don't even need to ask him to do, he'll do them for you. Sometimes you don't even know you need certain things until he provides it for you.

He notices that your milk is running low, so when he's free, he'll run to the store and grab it for you.

He notices that you left your little things like a USB stick, a hair tie, your favourite pen in random places in your shared apartment and will put it somewhere you will find it.

He notices when you're having a particularly tough week so he'll do something to comfort you.

He'll set up a little candlelit dinner in your shared apartment.

He'll take you out to ice cream after a long day.

He'll plan out activity dates.

He'll arrange trips and the playlists that accompany them.

His goal is to be someone you can depend on. The perfect life long-partner.

In all things said and unsaid, he loves you.

absolutely !!! :D i usually have pretty explicit stuff that im referencing or am inspired by so im always happy to share <3

*ramble incoming*

[the dr pepper cans are how you know im a real southern usa babe. earlier today there was 5 empty cans in a row until i put them in the recycle bin]

i take a Lot out of the book "sun circles and human hands: the southeastern indians - art and industry" (2001 edition, not the 1957 one) which i have a physical copy of and i have sticky notes tabbing out out and also annotated highlighting every mention of the chickasaw and of sites where i know the chickasaw [or our ancestors, like the chicaza and other early mississippian/SE ntv cultures] so i can reference stuff i know would be from us, but i also take inspiration from all the designs in it because we were all a part of an interconnected cultural network of art

if you are from a tribe that would be from mississippian culture or the southeastern ceremonial complex/southeastern cult as it used to be called, or you know your people wouldve come from places within that like spiro or moundville, and you want to bring more native styling into your art this is THEEE book i would recommend. it is insanely useful. i cant vouch 100% for the text of it, and the second half is mostly kinda grainy b&w scanned photos of pottery and other items lmao, but the first half has lineart depictions OF designs found, with the attribution for the site they were found at. it is a Massive wealth of symbols and style and has been the best thing for wanting to study and emulate SE ndn art. for real i lent a copy to my grandma and then couldnt find where it was and i had to just order a new copy bc i use it so damn much

like i would post pages of it, and before i bought it i survived off the pinterest pics of scanned pages, but i cannot say enough just buy the book and look through it bc its just perfect its so useful. just posting a few pages doesnt do any justice to the wealth of style and art in it. ive tried to make myself some mock style/symbol guides from it, but even those fail to capture the variety of stuff in there and its why i still have it on hand for reference bc every time i get stumped theres so many ideas in there

but ok . book rec rant over (partly.)

i had done sinti homma, the red snake earlier, and i wanted to do a little motley of other simple transparent animals to go with it. so i did! ive got a few different animals that i played with doing, but a lot of them ended up veering too much off of the more hardline ntv style i wanted to do, and the others didnt fit the guideline i had made - i wanted them all to have a pointed tail that pointed to some corner of the frame, and curl around in the square a bit to have more of a sense of motion. i was thinking deer, turtle, spider... but none of those really fit that. so i flipped thru SC&HH for some ideas and came up with some :3

the bottom left one on the first pic there gave me a good idea of what to do with a rat tail, and on the bottom right of that same pic is the Fattest fucking fish and i lifted a lot of that design to use for my fish (and while we're here, the rattler tails on the top right of that pic were what i used for sinti hommas tail), and the bottom left on the second pic gave me the idea for the lizards legs/feet shape, and then i used the chickasaw vocab flashcards of animals to think of animal ideas and so i used the pinti from there to jump me off into doing a rat

theyre all named after the chickasaw words - sinti (snake), shunti (rat/rodent), kanunuk (lizard, specifically green striped lizard, which is why i made it green with stripes lol), nunni (fish) . i use the chickasaw dictionary webpage a lot these days though i should use my dictionary copies more bc they use the spelling style i dont prefer lol

i also want to do maybe a sort of pop art style big print of them, like repeated with different colors behind them? and/or them in a medicine wheel? but those are still wip so we shall see!
