“Wangji, Jiang Wanyin turned us down.” Lan Xichen sat in one of the chairs in front of Lan Wangji’s desk. His hands folding over his knee as he crossed his legs, a natural ease Lan Wangji envied. “We can’t force him to make a deal with us.”

“We won’t,” Lan Wangji’s gaze flickered back to the paused still of Wei Wuxian on his screen. “He’ll come to us.”

“Jiang Wanyin made his opinion quite clear.”

“Not him,” Lan Wangji looked back at his brother. “Wei Ying.”

“And you think this why?” Lan Xichen arched an eyebrow.

“Devotion,” Lan Wangji hummed. “To his pack, even back in highschool.”

“I know,” Wei Wuxian shifted awkwardly. He felt a sense of shame come over him. He closed his eyes, as if it would make admitting it easier. “Lotus Pier Industries debts aren’t all we’re dealing with. I’m already behind on Yanli’s hospital bills, and I’m barely paying for our motel room. Not to mention I’ll have to deal with my student loans eventually. I know traditionally marriage contracts are expected to quickly produce children, but I can’t leave my family hanging. I’ll do whatever I can to make it up to you, but I can’t afford not to work. I need my jobs, however crappy they might be.”

“Do you enjoy your job?” Wei Wuxian’s eyes flew open.

“That’s not the point,” Wei Wuxian protested. “I need it.”

“Do you enjoy your job?” Lan Wangji repeated. Wei Wuxian sighed, recognizing that old Lan stubbornness.

“No,” Wei Wuxian raised a hand to his temple to rub it.

“Then quit,” Lan Wangji replied.

“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian breathed “It’s not that easy!”

“It is,” Lan Wangji replied, reaching into his jacket. He placed a black credit card on the table. Wei Wuxian’s eyes bulged out of his head as he saw his name on it. “Which hospital is Yanli in?”

“General,” Wei Wuxian replied, the sight of his own name embossed on the card stunning him into answering.

“I’ll see that she’s transferred to a Lan owned hospital.” Lan Wangji nodded, his hand slipping into his suit coat again and withdrawing a phone. “I’ll make sure the doctors examine her situation and see if there is anything that can be done to speed up or improve her recovery. Please get me the information on your student loans, as well as any other outstanding bills, and we can get them paid off.”

Wei Wuxian found himself speechless. He swallowed around the dangerously large lump in his throat, feeling tears prick at his eyes again. Lan Wangji’s hand reached out, pushing the black card closer to him.

Wei Wuxian stared at him in surprise. His brain slowly shifted the pieces together. Jiang Cheng had said he smelled weird, like an alpha. His mind flashed back to the kiss, specifically the way the kiss was the reason his headache had faded. It had been because Lan Wangji had scented him during it. His request for him to wear a ring. His sweater. Subtle ways to mark his territory. Who would have guessed Lan Wangji had a jealous nature? And that it could be formed that quickly.

“He’s my brother,” Wei Wuxian laughed, more in shock at his realization. He saw Lan Wangji shift, subtly showing his neck in a show of submission. Like a child who knew he’d done something wrong. He reached up, lifting Lan Wangji’s face so he could look him in the eye. “What what are you suggesting?”

“If we were married tomorrow,” Lan Wangji started. “You could move in with me. I could take care of you.”

“Although I am pretty sure you could read a dictionary and I’d like it,” Wei Wuxian snorted.

“I have a dictionary,” Lan Wangji replied, the corner of his mouth ticking up. It pulled another beautiful laugh from Wei Wuxian.

“Maybe I should put you to work reading me something a little more,” Wei Wuxian smirked as he looked up at him. “Stimulating.” He finished with a whisper and a wink.

“I’m not reading your werewolf smut out loud,” Lan Wangji replied flatly. Wei Wuxian cackled, turning to bury his head into Lan Wangji’s neck to muffle the sound. It thankfully kept Wei Wuxian from noticing his bright red ears.

Omegaverse in which Alpha!Lan Wangji and Omega!Wei Wuxian got betrothed a little after the Cloud Recess arc, married and had a-Yuan when they were on the crusp of aldulthood. __ Alphas were the providers. They were supposed to look after their mate and their family, and as such, were given the necessary tools by Mother Nature to fulfil their role. Most of them had brighter golden cores, were faster and physically more apt for the perillious life of a Cultivator. Naturally, Cultivation Sects only bothered to cater for, and to train Alphas (and sometimes Betas if they were talented enough). Why bothered with Omegas? When they were more suited for a life of childbearing, far from the life of politics and intrigues and the bloodshed of night hunting? That was the prerogative of their mates, that would sleep better on their two ears knowing that their families were safe and sound, hidden under wards within the security of their home. And what better use of an Omega golden core, than providing their husbands with yang energy while nurturing strong children within their wombs? It was better than to lay it to waste. __ Wei Wuxian knew all of this. And yet. he couldn’t help but yearn for a life outside of the walls of Cloud Recesses. He couldn’t help but yearn for a life of Freedom, like the one his parents enjoyed, instead of being reduced to being broodmare and a glorified Cauldron, sorely for his Husband’s benefit. Then the Wens came to set Gusu Lan ablaze, all the Disciples went to the frontline, and the Omegas of Cloud Recesses were left to their own devices. __ Or, in which Omegas are expected to stay at home with the children and be hidden from the World, and their value is defined by how much they’d boost their husband’s Cultivation. And in which Wei Wuxian is acutely aware of how unfair it was. Then he saw an opportunity during the Sun Shot Campaign (while all the Cultivators were gone and it was up to them to defend their home against the Wens) and one thing led to another until he initiated a Social Revolution with Nie Huaisang and Meng Yao’s support. (And in which Lan Wangji discovers another side of his Mate. Sees how bright, charismatic and brave he is and falls head over heels in Love for a second time.) __ Additional notes: Omega’s cultivation are stifled by their mate, which is why they have a “weaker” golden core. Polygamy was also a norm, and it wasn’t unusual for a Cultivator to get several concubines sorely for the purpose of strengthening themselves. Jiang Yanli’s weak cultivation was the reason behind Jin Zixuan’s initial reluctance to go through a betrothal, and Wei Wuxian’s strong one widened his prospects. Lan Wangji initially pursued Wei Wuxian because of his easy going personality. He didn’t expect much. Just them to fulfill their duty toward each other (and to their sect), as they were expected to, and to have an amiable relationship. Then he discovered his competency kink, and saw the appeal of having a full partnership.

okay, but omegaverse alpha/beta wangxian where WWX (beta) gets LWJ (alpha) to crack a little bit more often during their time together at The Cloud Recesses!

WWX slipped the porn into LWJ's books to rile the alpha up, leading to a chase around the room.

WWX laughing and willingly submitting to LWJ because that's the only thing that'll make him NOT be a growling mess, whose scent screams agitated + it'll let him release the death grip on his wrists.

LWJ takes a minute to come back down to Earth™️, and when he does it's only because he's nosing at WWX's neck, making WWX laugh and ask what he's doing.

LWJ can only stare down at WWX, before he snaps back to reality.

LWJ moves away, awkwardly and stiffly. He remains silent for the rest of WWX's text copying punishment before leaving with a "hmm" and a just as stiff posture.

When JC brings up how he can SMELL LWJ on WWX he brushes it off. Of course, he'd smell like him due to being in such close proximity to the Alpha. JC doubts him, but WWX changes the conversation.

WWX making his sneaking into The Cloud Recesses with Emperor's Smile into a game. One where whenever LWJ is close he will tug on the Alpha's clothes.

Taunting him with an innocent smile and his carefree laugh. But also whispering whatever fun things he might have read from the porn books he's read.

LWJ responds to WWX's words with one-worded answers.

Shameless / Indecent if you can think of it LWJ most likely tosses it out with his responses earning a laugh from WWX.

Never mind how red the top of his ears are, WWX is focused on dodging not only LWJ's grabs but also the Alpha's swings with Bichen.

WWX slips and fully expects to fall outside of The Cloud Recesses with LWJ dragging him away to be punished again, but LWJ grabs him and pulls him close.

Being so close to LWJ is so nice, so warm and WWX can hear LWJ's heartbeat, and what sounds like relief?

"Hey, Lan Zhan... doesn't holding me close like this feel romantic?" WWX hears the quick intake of breath from LWJ the Alpha's hold on him slacks for a moment before WWX slips out.

Laugher bubbling to the surface before WWX bids LWJ a good night and thanks for playing with him. Messing with an Alpha is so much fun.

LWJ stands there, WWX's warmth and scent, the feel of his heartbeat gone too soon his Alpha is oddly reeling from it.

WWX isn't a fool, he knows about courting & courtship between Alphas & Omegas, but there's a grey unwritten area for Betas and two other secondary genders.

So when he gifts LWJ the rabbits he doesn't think anything of it. When asked what he's going to do with them or who he's going to give the rabbits to if he does not accept them. WWX's response is food. The rabbits could go to whoever is good at cooking rabbits.

Looking at WWX LWJ makes a little noise while taking them away from him.

The Alpha glares at him after the rabbits are safe in his lap.

"I accept them," LWJ responds, the rabbits are stiff on his lap, and LWJ looks lost, but it's a cute sight for WWX.

It isn't until year's later that WWX learns that he had let LWJ Scent him, mixing their Scent's, showing others that he was being Courted.

The rabbits were seen as some kind of Courtship gift (something something about gift-giving and providing for one's Mate) and lwj keeps them as pets. Taking care of them and spoiling the rabbits.

wwx upon learning how sad lwj was after his death.

how he MOURNED him in the way only a Mated Pair could, how he kept things wwx loves hidden away in his room. how lwj's Alpha accepts A-Yuan as his and WWX's child without hesitation and protects him like A-Yuan the kid is his own flesh and blood.

because god, how had lwj survived all of this on top of his Alpha almost shutting down because of the death of a Beta who despite never saying it, or becoming anything official in the eyes of the world, saw him as his mate, his other half-- only to lose him in the worst way possible.

They disappear into the sect leader’s chambers, and they do not emerge for the rest of the night.

When the guards hear screaming, they toast to their lords in congratulations, drinking to their heart’s content.

Wei Wuxian was generous enough to show them the wine cellars.

Sometime before dawn, a black hooded figure slips out of Lotus Pier, taking the last boat from the docks.

And when the sun rises, every Wen soldier who fell asleep within the walls of the Jiang residence has their throat cut, eyes staring blankly at the morning light, unseeing.

When the regiment from outside comes to investigate, they eventually go to the lord’s chambers—

And what they find makes grown men scream out in terror.

Three days later, a boat washes up in Qinghe. It’s operator blood soaked, collapsed from exhaustion and dehydration.

And when he’s brought to the Nie Residence, both of the Jiang children rush to him in relief and terror.

“A’YING!”

It soon becomes clear that the blood isn’t his own—but Jiang Cheng is still furious, shaking him by the collar as the doctors examine him.

“What were you thinking?! Do you think we can afford to lose you?!” Wei Ying struggles to speak, his lips are too sore and dry.

Instead, he points to the wrapped. bundle of bloody rags they found in the boat with him. And when the doctors unwrap it—

They find Wen Chao’s head.

His fiancé hasn’t looked at him once.

Not even a glance.

Stubbornly staring straight ahead, to the point where Wei Wuxian can’t see anything other than his jaw line, and the sharp cut of his cheekbone.

...Well, it’s his loss. This is the best Wei Wuxian has ever looked in his life, and he doubts he’ll top this.

But as he glances around him—it becomes even more odd.

None of the Lans are looking at him. Not a single one. Not even the elder reciting the sutras.

In some cases they’re pointedly looking away from him.

Wei Ying looks back at Jiang Cheng—but he seems just as confused.

Even when they’re instructed to stand, bowing to the Lan elders, no one looks at him.

When they bow to the Jiang elders in attendance, Wei Ying is on the receiving end of dozens of confused stares.

And even when they bow to each other—

Lan Wangji does not look.

At least this time Wei Ying is able to get a better look at his face, and as much as he hates to admit it—

His stomach is doing backflips.

The Lans being uncommonly beautiful was no myth. As badly as he would rather call him average, or plain— his heart is in his throat.

“...I have to undress you!”

Lan Zhan pauses, looking down at him with one raised eyebrow—he seems to make most of his expressions that way—and Wei Ying grins as convincingly as he can.

“Undress me?”

“That’s how it is in Yunmeng,” he lies. “Your spouse has to undress you. Every time.”

He’s saying this because he half expects his husband to rip his clothes off and push him down onto the bed—

(That was what Wen Chao tried to do, may he rest in pieces.)

And this feels less vulnerable.

Lan Zhan stares at him for a moment, then looks away with a quiet sigh.

“Very well.”

In all honesty, Wei Ying hadn’t expected him to agree so easily.

“Well—maybe you’ll get lucky, and Lan Wangji won’t like you at all. Then he might send you home and keep up his part of the deal anyway!”

Nie Huaisang meant it as a joke, but Wei Ying sees potential.

After all: if there’s one thing he’s learned in the months since the engagement, it’s that he is utterly unsuitable for a place like the Cloud Recesses.

All he has to do is act like it.

I mean. is literally anyone surprised that this is where we're starting?

he's the nicest person out there. he can kick your ass if he wants to. he lost his parents at a young age and is absolutely convinced that everyone he loves is doomed to die and he keeps seeing visions of people dying and he's told again and again that those he has wronged in a past life - which he doesn't even remember - are still out to get him and yet he has so much kindness left for the world??

also he can be such a little shit and knows exactly how to tease Phaya back I love him so goddamn much.

2) Kim (Kinnporsche)

was he also on my characters I'd hit with my car list? maybe. and what about it.

I love him so much. he's such a badass but he's such a loser. famous singer who falls for a fan he was supposed to be investigating but is too emotionally constipated to admit it. badass son of a mafia family who can kick ass but only if he wants to. who does it like him honestly

(it also helps that he's played by just about the prettiest man alive)

3) Babe (Pit Babe)

did I start watching this show ironically? yes. is every mention of alphas and mpreg and that mama/papa thing hitting me like a brick and causing me 9000 psychic damage every single time? also yes. did I absolutely fall in love with the show and just about every character in it? you bet your fucking ass I did.

but I especially love Babe. he's just so babygirl. special alpha man who has to act tough and strong but just wants to be babied by his dumbass loser (affectionate) alpha boyfriend. like, he's actually so goddamn soft?? I love him.

4) Guy (Bake Me Please)

I think we all knew this was coming. I was literally gushing about him for half of the episodes. Guy my beloved. that show did not deserve you.

he spends the entire show supporting his crush's every decision and trying to make sure he's okay literally how could you not love this man

(yes he was a petty bitch for like 5 minutes there but he immediately apologized for it the next episode. properly. unlike certain other people-)

5) Sprite (Twins)

he's so himbo coded. himbo of all himbos. the himboest. not a brain cell in that head. he's my little dumbass I love him.

he deserves so much better than what he's being put through. someone please just love and support him for who he is. and also take him away from that family

6) Wei Wuxian (The Untamed)

MY BELOVED. I could write essays about him. he's such a great character I love him so fucking much. if you ever had to bear witness to me talking about him.. I am so sorry.

sassy emo bitch with a flute and a tragic backstory who's seen as evil by just about everyone but only ever had the best intentions. absolute fucking dumbass. kicks ass. always smiling despite the circumstances. loves his siblings so damn much. doomed by the narrative. what more could you possibly ask for

7) Zhou Zishu (Word of Honor)

I'm trying so damn hard to keep this list to one character per show and it really took me a while to decide if I wanted to include him or Wen Kexing but ultimately it was Zhou Zishu for me

just.. god. him. assassin sect leader just trying to retire who keeps getting dragged into the biggest bullshit but doesn't really mind bc the bullshit comes with a mysterious pretty man. also that whole god damn nail thing. I have so many thoughts and feelings about that but this post would get too long if I got started on those-

(also actually pulling the "I'm literally dying" card to get out of chores is so fucking valid of him. more characters should do that)

8) Milk (Choco Milk Shake)

he is quite fucking literally a reincarnated cat, of course I love him. I could list reasons for why I love him but it would be the exact same reasons just about every cat person on earth lists for why they love cats so. but here's a quick summary, just in case:

petty. dramatic. knocks over glasses. silently loves you so fucking much.

9) Tew (My Dear Gangster Oppa)

I really did not expect to love him this much? greenest of green flags (except for the plot line we shall not talk about). can and will kill people and is fine with it (seriously it is so refreshing to see a mafia character not having a huge moral dilemma about being in the mafia). both a badass mafia man and a gamer guy who doesn't know how to talk to people and is absolutely whipped for his gamer bf.

also scars make a person just about 110x more attractive I don't make the rules. even if the scars are weird and yellow, it's the thought that counts.

10) Tian (A Tale of Thousand Stars)

I? love him??

I just love how he sets out to do something for someone he didn't even know because he feels like this person deserves that much at least and how he ends up genuinely loving and caring for those kids and the village and this inner conflict he's having the entire time but hiding oh so well and how he actually calls out his parents on their rich people bs and-
