i’m trying to break out of it but, when it comes to their relationship dynamics, so far no fic has managed to top the one skiing au where bokuto and akaashi try and convince kuroo and tsukki to be in a poly relationship that i followed religiously back in 2015, like. (almost) no other fic has managed to tap into what i find so appealing about that group’s whole dynamic, their humour their earnestness their chaos as four, the way akaashi and tsukki balance kuroo and bokuto’s energy (except everyone knows the real trouble is tsukki and bokuto), and like the individual dynamics are incredible too, every pairing just worked so well, even ones i wouldn’t have considered before like kuroo and akaashi. like how in 100k words did this author manage to develop every relationship just so damn well??? there should be way too many moving parts, at least one of the dynamics should have fell flat or fell to the background but none of them did ughhhhh oh my god it’s so good i just need like. a dozen more fics exactly like it rippppp like i’m watching s2 (again yes ik) and all i can think about when i see the four of them interact is “wow that author really nailed their dynamics, what they wrote is exactly how those four would be in 10 years time” god fanfiction is incredible

I tapped my fingers against the desk, annoyed and darting my eyes around the room impatiently for any sign of a sentient being entering the room, or even the sound of a squeak. It wouldn’t been dead silent without the eerie ambience, which I would have much preferred instead of this sense of dread in the air. Furrowing my eyebrows, I tapped my foot against the cement and glanced towards the door; letting my thoughts wander freely and considering…everything that’s happened in the past 48 hours or less.

I was annoyed, acting inconvenienced. Maybe it was because I had expected Es to be late due to the fact everyone complained they were late, and I already set my expectations lower than usual for someone like them.

Or.

Maybe because they were taking the most time to get here out of every single interrogation.

I was honestly starting to think it was intentional—they knew about my distrust and suspicion—and therefore they were trying to both piss me off and avoid me at the same time, which made me even more pissed.

Because, even though they looked like my younger cousin in both height and babyface, they had the attitude of a complete brat. It was getting ridiculous, as I’ve heard from several others (and….eavesdropping occasionally) they have found it in themself to be short-tempered and aggravate everyone within a 24 mile radius. It’s almost a talent of how they’ve pissed one of us off at least twice.

Of course, this was just my observation. An assumption, if you will. Because of their rather vague and often contradictory statements, I’ve taken to calling them “pheme”, much to their disliking. Did they know what it meant?…probably not. But that wasn’t the point.

I find it soooo fucking funny when people say HLVRAI is only sillies with absolutely no angst, it's JUST jokes and there has NEVER been ANY angst, and then they get mad at people for writing angst because it's a "funny gmod series."

Like even aside from the fact that if it's handled well and with care, dark topics can be discussed, it's just. i’m always ok with your questions!! i love when people pick my brains about my characters,, knowing people are interested is my ultimate comfort fr :) sorry everybody this is going to be a looong post but we have a lot to cover!! i’m gonna split this into sections for readability

sol’s boyf,,, junipero,, has his own post in the works trust me you’ll be meeting him very soon! he ALSO happens to be one of my all time fav ocs,, in fact i made him his own playlist just like sol! (linking it here as a little preview of his vibes before u see him!)

I’m a character designer & artist first and foremost BUT i love writing and am trying to branch out so full steam ahead!! pedal to floor it’s LORE TIME (did i write this in docs like a draft before posting it, yes i did, only the best quality ramblings for olorea!!)

what's the plot of the story ?

okay so because i��ve had this oc world since i was a kiddo there are several stories within the world in a set timeline,, and it’d take me a million years to go through it all in one post hhhh,,, i have to say though that creating characters and connecting all the proverbial dots is so so fun. atp every character has their own separate & unique story that i hope to draw and/or write in my own time

as a general rule, though for simplicity i measure the ‘main story’ based on bell & nightingale’s arcs since they’re the ‘main protagonists’. so when you hear me say ‘before the story’ what i really mean is ‘before gale or bell meets x character and ropes them into The Shenanigans’

i might revamp my toyhouse acc just so you all can have easy access to my characters and their lore!!

I’m terrible at self categorisation but i’d say that this whole story is a sort of steampunky/high fantasy with some dystopia & political drama thrown in there, it honestly depends on whose story you’re reading haha

is it based on any country, or usa-specific since you said cowboys ?

it actually isn’t based on any real country! i completely abandoned real world geography for this story for my own sake,, the world is pretty much split into factions with their own ecosystems! the map of the world is a whole different story,,, i’ll have to remake that soon… but yeah!!

for the desert region i borrowed the lawlessness of the old west and the visual aesthetics of old westerns!! i take several artistic liberties, though, i make it a tad more whimsical

what are the fantasy elements, is there magic and/or creatures ?

in short yes!! this is a fantasy where a lot of characters have magic abilities of some kind! think of most of the magic-users like sorcerers in dnd! arcane abilities that they’re born with,, either that or they’re creatures of some kind/based on animals or cryptids (see agnis the vampire among others). most magic is,, organic? is that the word? it occurs naturally. most of it…

the word "prowlers" is so evocative, what do they do in the desert ?

‘prowlers’ is the colloquial term for the outlaws and criminals of the desert!! pretty much any socially nonconforming or unlawful person is given that label whether they actually committed a crime or not,, and most wear it like a badge of honour tbh. upperclass folk tend to look down on prowlers unfortunately and they have the reputation of sinister people-not-to-be-messed-with. calling oneself a prowler both protects you and puts a target on your back.

who is the rest of the found family ?

the family come from all over! a lot of the members of the corviday gang left their home nations to escape traumas back home and found comfort in an unconventional ‘criminal’ community with no expectations set upon them and no prying questions to be asked. comfort in the outskirts of society, if u will. here’s a list of them all in no particular order!

corvid:

the previous leader who passed away before the story (see? hehe, the story). sol takes on the role of de facto leader afer he’s gone.

magpie:

corvid’s daughter, a young bard who finds inspiration in the world around her no matter how bleak

eden & polaris:

eden, a jack-of-all-trades author who writes under the pseudonym ‘evergreen’. he is so done with everybody else’s nonsense, and his sibling polaris! a mute ex guard who has a frosty and intense personality.

quake:

eden & polaris’ kid brother, a young and scrappy aspiring inventor with unmatched wit and problem-solving skills

gaia & opal:

gaia & her girlfriend opal are ex stage performers who fled stardom to support a friend of theirs who went on the run

aimi:

amelie, aimi for short, is a young ex pirate who deserted her crew for a life in the desert

cobalt:

a career criminal from a family of miners, he claims to only stick with the gang for a laugh.

akila:

an ex training instructor from the capitol city’s military, akila uses her strategist mind to help keep the gang afloat. she keeps her distance, having dealt with loss before and not being eager to repeat the experience.

wendy:

a motherly former innkeeper, wendy has an admirable knack for business and ability to sway people’s opinions. she could probably carry you bridal style effortlessly. yes, you.

blair:

a free spirited traveling painter with a surprising affinity for weapons. practically a professional pickpocket.

i kept everybody’s descriptions short n sweet for this post because of the length but if anyone wants to know more about any of these guys please ask me abt it!! i’m happy to expand on any of em. there are other characters who orbit the gang, rival groups and of course some of them still have surviving family members… i’m expanding alllll of my lore :’)))

Cape characters being treated as crazy and insane because of their powers my beloved. I think powers as neurodivergency and mental conditions are an amazing metaphor when it's done right I relate to it soooo much. This is not a new observation I know but I just need to say it. hell yes my "deniably casual sexual encounter in taylor's apartment babeyyy" wip is over 7k words already and i haven't even gotten to the part where anyone's kissing yet. so far it's all In Effect taylor going "is there like, an energy here or is it just me" (there is) in this 7k< form via my classic move of providing wildly extensive introspection that Could be pared down a ton i'm sure but if i was thorough abt editing myself & my verbosity & taking thousands of words to say something, including the same things repeatedly in slightly different ways, writing anything would be all the more difficult / rarely manifested. playing to my strengths / weaknesses w/fiction out here like, see that last billions fic scene that's Supposed to be largely winston somewhat going in circles stuck in his head and also sexual activity. seizing the premise for this one like, taylor being all I'm Extra Pensive Atm But What If That Sets Me Up To Be More Spontaneous When I Go Back Into The Living Room And Quants Have Something Going On. i've triumphantly managed to get taylor out of the living room in the first place and now their being able to return any minute now as soon as i wrap up their thinking about how their quants are sure like special little guys (extraordinary) (least veil of neutrality; readily positive)
