penny pizzazz ; penny is a del sol valley native but san myshuno local since 18 when she scored a modelling gig with her co-manager vanessa jeong, besties since highschool. the 26 year old fashion designer and model has her own modelling business located in san myshuno, serious about her craft and work, penny is shown to play zero games when it comes to getting the thing done and her trusted and currently highest profile model brianna reardon knows that of all.

marcus flex ; marcus is a sba hall of famer and retired basketball icon, working as an coach for the windenburg stallions and running his basketball camp in windenburg for young and talented basketball players, marcus is highly respected in his field of work. marcus knows talent when he sees it and that's why he's reserving a spot for ishmael reardon as of currently. like penny, marcus is extremely strict and serious about his craft and getting things done and his method is tough love, when he yells, it's not out of angers it's out of love and many players learn to recognize the pattern.

donovan al fraser ; donovan is a sba hall of famer like marcus and actually played in the sba with marcus for some time before retired back in the mid 90s. donovan retired back in the early 2000s and has become a private basketball coach since then. a close friend of brian reardon, donovan took up the task of mentoring his son ishmael for marcus's basketball camp in windenburg. donovan skilled with the ball and technique, ishmael is already steps ahead of his peers in the field and is granted top stops in the big league.

Before I start I just wanna say u are the first person to ever send me an ask since I joined Tumblr 🥹 tytyty

Alright so this is gonna be a little tough (VERY tough) but, I think, of the PUBLISHED fics that I have (because I have TOO MANY FANFICS IN THE WORKS, AND I DON'T WANNA HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM THERE), in no particular order, my favorites so far are:

1. Woe is We

Fandom: Wednesday

Summary:

Panting, body dripping with blood, someone else's blood. Wednesday's blood. Tyler came slowly to Nevermore.

All that remained was the charred remains of the once renowned school, blackened and smelling of ash and blood.

Crackstone had succeeded. Laurel had won.

2. stupid, stupid cartoons

Fandom: Wednesday

Summary:

Donovan Galpin was never one to watch cartoons. But here he was, his ass on the couch, watching a cartoon about magic element benders.

3. Talking to the Moon

Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender

Summary:

Toph wakes up to hear Sokka talking. No one else is awake. Who could he possibly be talking to when there was no one else around for miles?

4. Orphans

Fandom: Hamilton: the Musical

Summary:

Hamilton was not the only person to lose his parents. He was not the only one to have experienced the pain of death. He was not the only orphan to have touched upon America's history.

aaaand last but not least:

5. A Gift for a Padawan

Fandom: Star Wars (Clone Wars)

Summary:

Anakin sighed as he watched her go, that familiar feeling of resentment towards the Jedi and their traditionalism battling inside him. It was just ONE little thing. Would it have been so bad?

AKA, Master Skyguy's soft spot for Snips makes him consider doing something he's pretty sure the Council wouldn't approve of. But then again, since when has that ever stopped him?

I was thinking of waiting to answer this after I published my Weyler Week fics (because I'm definitely pretty proud of those, possibly enough to knock some of these fics off the list), but I wanted to give my fics from other fandoms a chance!

I feel like it'd be nice to mention though that, in order of oldest to newest, it's actually:

1. Orphans

2. A Gift for a Padawan

3. Talking to the Moon

4. stupid, stupid cartoons

5. Woe is We

BUT I will say that, though Orphans is the oldest fic here (near the very end of my Hamilton phase, which ended around 2020? and was posted on fanfiction.net, before I moved to AO3), it's also the last Hamilton fanfic I ever finished. A Gift for a Padawan is also the last Star Wars fanfic I've written (posted in 2022, the last fanfic I ever posted on fanfiction.net I think). Meanwhile stupid, stupid cartoons was my first ever published Wednesday fanfic, while Woe is We is obviously the last one I posted (for Wednesday, but also the last fic I posted in general).

I will definitely be sending this ask to other ppl as well 🥹 this is such a good and sweet idea aaaaaa let's go

On second (or maybe fourth) viewing: Weeds, season 1 (created by Jenji Kohan, 2005)

Having technically known it by heart after several intense re-watchings back in the mid-2000s, I have recently had showed it to my boyfriend, who knew it only tangentially (generation gap!). I remember criticism that Weeds' later seasons (with the exception of 4 and 6) got lost in the re-invention need, with the location shifts camouflaging the storytelling staleness. It's a valid point, I re-watched chunks of seasons 7-8 last year, and cringed heavily at the stinky quality of everything that does not revolve around Mary Louise Parker's nuanced performance. The tenure of the series proved that Nealon and Gould are limited actors and that Parrish, when given a chance of emotionally complex characterization, can pull an interesting performance (season four's ending is his highlight). But it is Parker who remains amazing throughout. In those later seasons, she got a fantastic screen partner in Jennifer Jason Leigh, with whom she shared awesome, brittle, sexy, and extremely lively sisterly chemistry. In this opening season, her great partner is Perkins, whose role would become more of a nasty caricature in her last two seasons (the ones outside Agrestic). What surprised me this time though is how clumsily shot and badly written this season is, part of which points to its temporal situatedness: the characters of color are only drug dealers and maids. White guys (and Celia) throw homophobic and ableist slurs as joke punchlines. Suddenly, starting with episode four, there are weird fade-outs truncating the wobbly rhythm of the episodes. Regardless of that, I am looking forward to re-watching season two, which was my favorite back then: I never was a fan of Donovan, but his on-screen relationship with Nancy Botwin was a highlight.

Theater Camp

Movies watched in 2024

Theater Camp (2023, USA)

Directors: Molly Gordon & Nick Lieberman

Writers: Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Nick Lieberman & Ben Platt (based on the short film by the same team)

Mini-review:

Wow, I didn't expect to love this so much. I basically watched it because I love the cast and I needed some lighthearted entertainment, but it really was much more than that. For starters, it's just so, so funny. All the jokes are clever and perfectly delivered, and they keep coming and coming, which is seriously impressive. I guess its sense of humor won't suit everybody's taste, but I completely connected with it, and I can't remember the last movie that made me laugh this much. And every single member of the cast is pitch-perfect, from the adults to the kids. You can tell just how much passion they have for the world of theatre and musicals. Speaking of musicals, there are quite a few stunning musical numbers and songs, which is particularly remarkable when you take into account this is not a big-budget movie, by any means. So yeah, Theater Camp was a very pleasant surprise, and I want to watch more. I would give anything for a sequel or some sort of TV adaptation. Don't be surprised if it ends up in my yearly top 10.
