HELLO!
(Yes, this is me as Sarah Winchester for Halloween. Also, yes, this is pretty much my general wardrobe give or take a lace layer. Yes, I wrote a long chapter in this book about Sarah Winchester because I really love her and find her to be fundamentally misunderstood.)
I just wanted to drop by and say it's still Women's History Month and it's still a GREAT time to read about historical women and how their stories resonate with us today. BONUS: you can do this through ghost lore! Here's how!
A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN: TRUE STORIES OF AMERICA'S GHOSTS examines women's history by using ghost stories; unpacking how we talk about women, alive and dead. Available wherever books are sold, in paperback, audio and digital! Retailer links here!
Word-of-mouth is so important for books like ours, so if this book interests you, could you please share? Thanks so much and Happy Haunting!

Happy Halloween, Sarah Winchester edition, replete with a film-still of Helen Mirren's portrayal as reference, from the historical fantasy film Winchester.
Images brought to you by my general wardrobe and ongoing fascination with Sarah Winchester, whose chapter (and real history, rather than all the myths) can be found in A Haunted History of Invisible Women: True Stories of America's Ghosts... I adored writing about Sarah and I hope you'll enjoy learning about her too...

A Melancholy Stone Maiden in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Upstate New York. Of all the photographs I took that were included in the interior of A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN: TRUE STORIES OF AMERICA'S GHOSTS, this one is my favorite. She's so dynamic and unique.

Hi. I waxed rhapsodic about Poe. As I am wont to do. The great love of my life since age 7, Poe has always been important to me and as we come to the anniversary of his death in 1849, I spent some time with the lovely Haunted History Chronicles discussing his impact, his legacy, misunderstandings about him, his strange and still unsolved death, and a strange incident on one of my NYC tours for Boroughs of the Dead when he actually haunted me...

My year in publishing. Essays, short stories, entirely new forays into non-fiction & contemporary Gothic Romance, returning to beloved Spectral City characters in The Spirit Suitor trilogy (exclusively in digital & audiobook w/ me narrating via Scribd), been one hell of a year!
Pictured: THE FEMININE MACABRE, featuring my essay "An Unnamed Sorrow Where Marian Adams Should Be", The Castle of Horror Young Adult Anthology featuring a Glazier's Gap story "The Silhouette Again", A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN, my debut non-fiction with Andrea Janes via @kensingtonbooks exploring the crossroads of women's history and ghost stories, and my contemporary Gothic Romance GHOSTS OF THE FORBIDDEN, with a card noting the titles of my digital/audio Spirit Suitor trilogy, THE SPIRIT SUITOR, ENCHANTING THE EXORCIST, and TO HAUNT AND TO HOLD via Scribd/Bryant Street Publishing

So grateful to the Smart Bitches, Trashy Books team for this amazing review which reinforces that this book is not just a book about ghosts, it's a book of history and a series of prompts; asking questions about how and why society tells stories about women in the historic to contemporary ways in which it does.

Thinking fondly about my visit to the Winchester Mystery House and how much it meant to me to tour this inimitable place with Janan Boehme, the House Historian, learning new things about Sarah Winchester's history and about this treasure of a mansion itself. I put my whole heart into my "Unfinished Business" chapter for A Haunted History of Invisible Women and hope you'll take away a renewed sense of appreciation not only for this house, but of what an incredible, smart, creative and generous woman Sarah Winchester really was.
