Charles Leclerc x princess of Monaco reader
When their relationship gets discovered by the public eye, it's starting to get a bit chaotic. Contrary to [Y/n]'s worries, people react positively and start to even wonder if Charles is going to become an actual prince of Monaco.

As I was finishing writing this last night, I've received such a fun idea for rivals to lovers for reader x Charles, so you know what fic to expect next;)
The Princess
Tumblr media
Keeping your relationship private isn't an easy thing when you're royalty, the literal princess of Monaco, and your boyfriend is a famous Formula One driver. But somewhat [Y/n] and Charles managed to remain private until their engagement.
Of course, there were theories and people were suspecting it. Both [Y/n] and Charles were from Monaco and single for a suspiciously long period of time, so rumours were writing itself.
It wasn't that weird when it came to the princess being single, at first people even speculated about her preparing for some political marriage that would be beneficial for her country. However, Charles had quite the reputation when it came to dating, so fans were pretty surprised he 'stayed single' for so long.
Everything cleared up and fans' theories became reality, when [Y/n] and Charles were caught sneaking out of one parisian restaurant through the back door. It was the evening that Charles had proposed to [Y/n] and she wanted it to be officially announced on the next day, but unfortunately they were noticed by some paparazzi.
"I knew we weren't going to keep it this way forever," [Y/n] sighed, seated in the passenger seat of Charles' Rolls Royce Wraith, "but I wanted it to be officially announced."
"Don't worry, love." Charles assured, putting his right hand on the woman's thigh. His left hand was on the steering wheel, controlling the car at a speed that had surpassed the legal limit some time ago. "We might not have control over how the news got out, but it doesn't matter, people's opinions don't matter."
"True, but I hope the official announcement won't be overshadowed by the media's articles. You know how they are."
"And what if it does? The only thing that matters to me is our love, I don't care if people that I don't even know approve or not."
The night air whispered against the windows as they sped through the city, the glow of streetlights reflecting inside the car. They were already far from the center of Paris, no paparazzi in sight anymore.
As they reached the destination, which was a mansion located in a secluded place, Charles got out of the car and rushed to open the door for [Y/n].
"Thank you, love." [Y/n] smiled, stepping out of the vehicle. "I'm sorry this had to end with us evacuating like that."
"It's no problem at all, I'm quite used to the spotlight, nothing new for me." Charles joked, walking alongside his now fiancée towards the door of the building.
"I was hoping it wouldn't be like this. I mean, Nikolai has a pretty normal life in Australia, people don't stalk him wherever he goes. In Sydney he isn't Nikolai the prince of Denmark, he's just a normal person. I thought I could be the same in Paris."
"Chérie, as much as I love you, I cannot agree with you. I think there is a small difference between Paris and Sydney," Charles laughed.
They entered the mansion, the opulence of the surroundings contrasting with the night's earlier events. The warmth of the mansion was a contrast to the moments they had just left behind.
As they settled into a cosy sitting room, [Y/n] asked her maid to bring a bottle of champagne.
"Maybe I should leave my royal title." [Y/n] wondered out loud. "There were cases in which the royals left their titles to marry someone."
"No," Charles shook his head, "I would never forgive myself if you made this decision solely based on tonight. I think partially the fault is also mine, don't forget I drive in Formula One."
The maid returned with a chilled bottle of champagne, uncorking it as [Y/n] and Charles continued their conversation.
"Thank you," [Y/n] smiled at the maid and then shifted her focus back to Charles. "I appreciate your concern, Charles, but it's not just about tonight. I love you, and I want to be with you, but sometimes, I wish we could escape the constant judgement. I don't want my title to affect you in bad ways."
Charles reached for her hand. "I get it, [Y/n]. And I admire you for even considering it. But I fell in love with you, the princess, just as much as I did with [Y/n], the person. Your title is a part of who you are and I wouldn't want you to give that up for me."
"I just wish we could have a life where we're not constantly under the public microscope."
"Then we'll find a way to make it work. We'll create our own story, one that is above the titles and the fame. [Y/n], I've just proposed to you tonight. I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't ready for everything it brings into my life."
They continued to enjoy the evening while the flickering flames in the fireplace cast a warm glow over the room. The world outside seemed distant.
In that moment it was just Charles and [Y/n], two people deeply in love. Not 'the princess and the Formule Ona driver'. Inside the walls of [Y/n]'s family's mansion, they were just normal people.
Tumblr media
On the next day, as [Y/n] and Charles had woken up, the media was already filled with rumours about them. It seemed as if the whole world was talking about last night.
"I contacted my spokeswoman," [Y/n] announced to Charles as they sat down to breakfast. "Our engagement will be officially announced as soon as possible, apparently the statement has been ready for a few months now."
Charles couldn't help but let out an amused chuckle slip out of his mouth. "A few months? Were they predicting our engagement?"
[Y/n] joined in his laughter, shaking her head. "Oh, they're always prepared for anything."
"How did your parents react? Have you spoken to them?"
"Well, it'll be the time for you to meet them. I've been postponing it, but now we're engaged and it can't be avoided."
"I've been telling you I should meet them already. I don't want them to think it was me who didn't want to do it."
"I told them I didn't want to jinx it!"
"Well, I've been practicing my royal etiquette. It time to make a use out of it."
"You'll be just fine, Charles. Just be yourself." [Y/n] giggled. "You know, in their eyes you're one of the best candidates."
Formula One was important for Monaco and Monaco was important for Formula One, so when [Y/n]'s parents found out she's dating a driver, a monégasque one, they were very content.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, there were some issues the couple was about to face. Being engaged didn't bring any legal responsibilities, however once they get married, things could change.
[Y/n] and Charles landed in Monaco in a private jet chartered for them. They were greeted by a big crowd of people eager to know the whole story.
"We aren't supposed to give impromptu interviews." [Y/n] said quietly, walking down the stairs from the plane.
Charles, a few steps behind her, replied with a mischievous grin, "Why not? It would be fun. Spontaneity can be good for us."
As they stepped off the plane, they began to walk side by side. Charles offered his arm to [Y/n], who gracefully looped her hand around his forearm.
"My spokeswoman advised this to me." [Y/n] answered. What she didn't mention was that her spokeswoman was worried about Charles saying something inappropriate.
The couple continued their walk with smiles on their faces. [Y/n] occassionaly waved at someone. It was a bit windy that day and she was thankful for wearing a long dress that day, because it wasn't that easy to be lifted up by the wind.
Somehow, their attention was then captured by a friendly-looking journalist who approached with a warm smile. [Y/n] gestured to the bodyguard, who Charles thought was unnecessary, indicating that they were willing to engage in a brief conversation.
"Princess [Y/n], Mr. Leclerc, thank you for sparing a moment." The woman began, without even introducing herself. "The world is eager to hear more about your engagement. Everyone is curious how did you manage to keep the relationship a secret for so long."
Charles and [Y/n] exchanged a brief glance.
Then [Y/n] decided to speak. "We just valued our privacy and wanted to savor the moments without external pressures. We're grateful for the time we had to get to know each other and form a connection away from the spotlight."
The journalist continued with the next question. "And what made you decide to go public with the engagement now?"
"We literally got engaged last night." Charles admitted with a playful smile. "We planned to announce it a little later, but we were seen anyway, so thought why not."
"Many people are already speculating about the wedding. Can you give us any hints about when and where it might take place?"
[Y/n], maintaining a diplomatic demeanor, responded. "We're still in the early stages of planning. When we have the details, we'll share them with everyone."
The woman didn't seem satisfied with the princess' reply. She decided to shift her attention completely to Charles. "And, Charles, as you might know, people have been calling you the unofficial prince of Monaco for years and now you're about to marry into the royal family."
Charles, caught off guard by the unexpected question, scratched the back of his head with a sheepish grin. "Well, unofficial prince or not, I don't think anyone would want me leading official ceremonies. I'm more comfortable behind the wheel of a racing car than in any royal procession."
The journalist chuckled at his candid response, appreciating the touch of humor to the so far serious interview. [Y/n] smiled lightly, but deep down she was worried about how the public might perceive Charles's.
Noticing [Y/n]'s concern, Charles quickly added with a playful wink. "But who knows? Maybe I'll become the first prince who can pull off a pit stop during a royal banquet."
"One last question. Do you think there will be any changes in your career, induced the responsibilities that come with being part of a royal family? For example, princess [Y/n]'s grandmother had to leave her Hollywood dream."
"Marrying into the royal family is a bit like joining a new team, isn't it?" Charles joked, searching for a proper answer in his mind. "But seriously, I don't see myself giving up my racing career. It's my passion and I'm lucky to have the support of [Y/n] and her family in pursuing it."
[Y/n] decided to chime in. "It's a unique situation and we'll try to find the balance between Charles' racing career and any new royal responsibilities."
Charles and [Y/n], having left the interview behind, found the car that was supposed to take them straight to [Y/n]'s parents' palace. Charles opened the door for [Y/n] and soon after that the both of them were sitting in the back of the car.
The car moved smoothly through the small city and thankfully the windows in the back were darkened, so that the couple could feel more comfortable. Charles couldn't ignore the quiet need for the driver's seat. The engine's sound and the familiarity of the steering wheel, and the city outside the vehicle, held a certain comfort that the backseat couldn't quite provide.
He stole a glance at [Y/n], her hand still intertwined with his. "You know, love, I can't stop thinking about how much I'd rather be driving right now. No offense to our chauffeur, of course."
The man in the driver's seat took a glance at Charles through the rearview mirror, smiling sympathetically.
[Y/n], with a smile, leaned closer to Charles. "I know, I know, but this way it's more official. You'll have opportunities to be the driver."
The chauffeur, overhearing their banter, chimed in. "I'd be happy to trade places with you, Mr. Leclerc, but I doubt the palace would approve."
Being reffered to as 'Mr. Leclerc' was another thing Charles had to get used to. For most of the time to people, to fans , journalists and others he was just Charles. Or Leclerc. And now people began to put 'mister' in front of his name.
The trio shared a light laugh as the car came to a stop in front of [Y/n]'s parents' palace. After stepping out of the vehicle, Charles and [Y/n] approached the entrance of the building and the man could feel some stress appearing in his body.
He wasn't stressing before at all. But now the reality of the situation hit him with full force. He was meeting his future wife's parents. Not only this, but also they were royalty.
Holy shit, Charles was about to marry into royalty.
The couple was holding hands, so [Y/n] could feel Charles' hand starting to lightly shake.
"I told you, you have nothing to worry about." [Y/n] assured, trying to calm his nerves.
"Easy to say," Charles said, a hint of anxiety in his voice, "your parents are, like, the most important people in Monaco."
"And? You as well. Fans have been referring to you as the prince of Monaco for years, think about it this way."
The palace doors opened, revealing a grand foyer. The couple stepped inside, entering a world of regality. It was this moment when Charles realized how real it all was. The anxiety lingered, but he found a remedy for it in [Y/n]'s presence.
The couple was walked into the drawing room. Charles glanced at [Y/n], who gave him an encouraging smile, and for a moment it was just the two of them. Not for long, however. Their little moment was interrupted by the arrival of [Y/n]'s parents.
"Mother, father," [Y/n] gracefully curtsied.
"Your majesties, it's an honor." Charles greeted, bowing his head.
By the time [Y/n] came back from her curtsy and Charles looked up, [Y/f/n] was extending his arm towards the man, offering a handshake. Charles respectufully accepted the gesture.
As their hands met, Charles decided to introduce himself. "Charles Leclerc," he said, being cut off before he could say more.
"Our national treasure, indeed. We're well acquainted with your accomplishments."
The room echoed with a shared laughter, breaking the ice and setting the tone for a lighter conversation. It was something that eased Charles' nerves. Of course, he still had to follow the etiquette, but [Y/f/n]'s remark made the situation feel less formal. After all, royalty is people as well.
The conversation smoothly continued as both the couples sat down on the elegant, antique sofas.
"And how did you two figure out 'this is it'?" [Y/m/n] inquired with a playful twinkle in her eye. "I don't think you've told me this story, [Y/n]."
"Of course, it started when we met at the race in Monaco a few years ago." [Y/n] smiled at the memory.
It was the first Monaco Grand Prix that [Y/n] attended, four years ago. Accompanied by friends, [Y/n] made a casual appearance in the paddock for media purposes, not initially a fan of Formula One. However, that day changed everything.
Their eyes met for seconds, but it was enough for Charles to get enchanted by [Y/n]. Her smile, her eyes, the way she moved so gracefully. They met again the same day after the race, when [Y/n] took her time to pay a visit into every garage.
"Mate, I'm telling you, shoot your shot." Sebastian encouraged his teammate. "Everyone on the grid can see the way you look at each other."
"Are you kidding?" Charles refused. "She's royalty. What would I even say?"
"Come on, you're not just anyone. You're Charles Leclerc. I'm sure she wouldn't refuse a date."
Charles couldn't help but chuckle at Sebastian's persistence. "Seb, she's a princess. I can't just approach her like it's not a big deal."
"It is not a big deal, though!"
"What if I make a fool out of myself?"
And so, the worries won that time. Charles, scared of embarrassing himself, barely made any conversation with the princess when she approached the Ferrari garage.
He waited a year, because a princess is not someome you can just hit up on social media. He waited a year, hoping she will visit the paddock again. She did, but unfortunately with a man. She was in a relationship with a prince, exactly the way royalty works.
Discouraged, Charles decided to give up on her, eventually finding himself in a relationship with someone else as well. The irony struck him when [Y/n] was single again a year later. Of course, he couldn't make any move, being in a relationship himself.
Maybe if he was single at the time, he would have finally found the courage to have a private conversation with the princess. He felt as if he missed out and he hated himself for having these thoughts.
One more year had passed and eventually the both of them found themselves single by the time of the Monaco Grand Prix. Charles didn't hold back and this time started a conversation with the princess.
"Your royal highness," he greeted, "fancy meeting you here again. Although you do seem lonely."
It was a fact. [Y/n] indeed came to the Grand Prix alone that year. Without a boyfriend, obviously due to the breakup, and also without her friends.
"Well, you've caught me," [Y/n] chuckled, "attenting the Grand Prix by my lonesome. I must admit, the prince was never a fan."
"Oh, and why is that?"
"He was an average insecure man. According to him, I am a fan just because you drivers are physically attractive." [Y/n] stopped herself from smiling after that sentence. After all, there was a bit of truth in this in her case.
"Well, aren't we?" Charles opted for a cheeky question.
"Touché." The smile creeped up onto the princess' face by itself. "I suppose there's some truth to his observations."
"And what exactly would a princess like yourself do in the case of getting asked for a deliberate encounter?"
"Are you suggesting something?" [Y/n]'s eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief.
"Yes, what do you say to a more intentional rendezvous, perhaps over dinner?"
[Y/n]'s smile widened, and she nodded. "Hmm, that sounds like a rather bold move. But I must admit, I appreciate boldness. Dinner it is."
And that was basically how their romance unfolded. Both [Y/n] and Charles were grateful for the way the events played out. Charles found in [Y/n] not just a princess but a person in whom he could find solace and support, and [Y/n] discovered in Charles a partner who liked her for more than her royal status.
The engagement, announced under unexpected circumstances, only strenghtened their commitment to each other. Not a long time after, the day of their wedding came.
The ceremony took place in the Saint Nicholas Cathedral and was attended by, first and foremost, the families of both the bride and the groom, by other members of royalty, and also by Charles' fellow drivers, principals of the teams, a lot of people related to Charles' 'workplace' in general.
[Y/n] walked down the aisle, holding the arm of her father. The moment important in the royal tradition. Charles, waiting at the altar, couldn't help but marvel at the sight of his soon-to-be wife. Her white dress highlighted her grace, making Charles question if he's actually worthy of being her husband.
The vows they exchanged were personal and heartfelt, expressing their love, talking about their past, including a promise to grow old together.
The reception was held at the palace. The couple danced their first dance as husband and wife, surrounded by the music of a live orchestra. A bit later, it was the time to socialize with the guests.
"You did end up as the prince of Monaco, after all." Charles' friend, Pierre, joked, recalling the nickname made up by fans.
Charles chuckled at Pierre's comment. "The people have manifested it. But I wouldn't have it any other way."
Esteban joined the laughter, adding with a grin, "Should we start addressing you as your royal highness now?"
The groom playfully rolled his eyes. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I'm still the same old Charles, just with a fancy title."
In the same moment the groom was having a chat with his friends, [Y/n] made her way toward his younger brother, Arthur, who served as the best man at the wedding.
"Princess [Y/n]!" Arthur said, raising his glass in a greeting. "Quite the celebration, isn't it?"
"It is, indeed," [Y/n] replied, smiling, "and your speech made it even better."
"Thank you, I tried my best. It was my first time and the huge amount of guests didn't make it better."
"You did wonderful regardless." She paused. "And, by the way, there's no need for formalities, we're family now. Call me just [Y/n]."
"Deal, [Y/n]," he clinked his glass with hers, "and, if Charles ever does anything to upset you, let me know. I'll try to put him in his place. He is really lucky to have you."
"Hopefully I'll never have to take you up on that offer," she giggled.
"I have a feeling you two are going to have an amazing life together."
The night continued with celebrations, toasts, music inside the walls of the enchanting palace. The newlyweds were happy to share this moment with all the people they had invited.
A few hours into the celebration, so late at night it could be as well called morning, [Y/n] and Charles found themselves swaying to a slow song.
"How are you enjoying the celebration, my prince?" [Y/n] whispered, audibly just for her husband.
Charles' smile reflected the happiness in his heart. "I couldn't have asked for more. One of my biggest dreams came true."
"One of them? What are the other big ones?"
"Becoming the world champion." He chuckled. "Do you even know me at all?"
[Y/n] playfully rolled her eyes. "I was hoping for some more romantic goal."
"I didn't say I'd trade you for the championship, did I?"
"I know you wouldn't." She paused. "One step at a time, Charlie. You'll be the first prince to win it."

perv!ateez // the things they do with their s/o
Tumblr media
request: opinions on perv!ateez and how they’d be pervy and nasty with their gf/so
Tumblr media
a/n: below the cut are nsfw behaviors that may make some readers uncomfortable. some, if not all, of these behaviors can be viewed as inappropriate/immoral so please read at your own discretion! these situations can be particularly triggering for people due to a seeming or straight forward lack of consent. please remember that this is a work of fiction and should not be practiced in the real world.
hongjoong: he loves to cum on your clothes. not too weird, right? except he only does it without you knowing about it. he'll wait until you go out with friends and swipe one of your favorite tshirts from your closet. then he'll get nice and comfy in bed with his cock out, filling your shared bedroom with pathetic little whines until he cums all over it. he does his best to get rid of any of the evidence, throwing it in the wash and putting it back where he found it before you get home. seems like it defeats the purpose. but in his own messed up mind, it makes perfect sense. next time you wear that shirt, you'll be wearing something he marked wherever you go. it's a way for him to claim you without anybody else knowing. and when he sees you wearing it, he can't help but stiffen in his jeans knowing exactly what he did.
seonghwa: you are the most perfect thing seonghwa has ever experienced. he loves everything about you. your pretty face, your laugh, your voice. but, by far, seonghwa's favorite thing about you is your scent. he always takes ample time to smell your hair when he hugs you or breathe in the riper scent of you when he lays his head in your lap. at night, he often finds himself waking up with an insatiable need to touch himself and the only thing he can think about is how good you smell and bathing himself in it. so he does. he turns his body to the side, head close to yours so he can inhale the smell of your hair while he jerks his cock. he tries so hard not to wake you, struggling to choke down the audible proof of just how good he feels. he makes sure not to get any of his release on you so you never have to know.
yunho: yunho knows the drill when you have a day off: he leaves for work and you roll around in bed, playing with yourself because you have an insatiable sexual appetite and he's not there to help you. you don't know he knows this. he'd never tell you because he's afraid you might stop if you knew that he was very much aware of this routine of yours. so, instead, he leaves for work like usual, waits a few minutes for you to be well into your private session with yourself, and then sneaks back into the apartment. he always has an excuse on hand in case he gets caught: he forgot his keys or something or other. he creeps toward your bedroom door that he conveniently left cracked just enough to peek into and watches as you squirm on the bed, trying to give yourself the same pleasure yunho does. he can't stop staring. your little hands are so small compared to his. he can see every bit of you when you're not covered by his gigantic body. it's enough to give him a pre-work orgasm, one he has to keep deadly quiet if he wants to keep up his own little routine.
yeosang: you and yeosang have talked about somnophilia before and both of you have agreed that either of you can always wake up the other with sex. your senses are heightened when you're sleepy, anyway, so you both love it. it's not unheard of in your sex life at all. that being said, yeosang would be lying if he said he wasn't really excited whenever he would come home from work and you were already asleep. sure, he loved having sex with you when he came home to you needy and fully awake for him. it was great. but there was something so goddamned special about licking or fucking you awake. your tiny whimpers steadily growing into overwhelmed moans. the way your body was so limp and submissive. it was like a dream every time, even though you were the one that was asleep. just coming home late and knowing you would probably be asleep by the time he got there was enough to make him rock hard in his jeans.
san: if there's one thing san knows he does well, it's make you cum. you would always be spent, messy, and dazed by the time he was done with you. and god, you made the prettiest sounds known to man. he just wants everyone to know all of this. how good he makes you feel and how beautiful you sound crying his name and moaning for him. so maybe he sometimes makes sure other people hear it. and maybe he doesn't tell you about it. he'll play video games with his members and "forget" to turn his mic off. but he'll never address it with anyone. he'll simply turn it off after he's done so he doesn't have to face the noise. and if they ever bring it up to him, he'll play dumb and "beg" them not to say anything to you because it was, obviously, an accident, duh. when he's really desperate, he'll navigate to one of those random cam sites, cover the camera, and leave the mic on for strangers to hear. he knows that it's a bit much, but it feels too good to stop.
mingi: mingi is such an obvious perv. he can never keep his hands to himself when you're around and almost everything you do makes him horny. you're used to this. but mingi's number one love in this life is your ass. once he sees it, even clothed, it's game over. he can't stop himself. you can't so much as lay on the bed and read or study peacefully. mingi will always come walking into the room, see you lying on your stomach with your delicious curve free to access, and make his move. it only takes seconds for him to be on you, hands groping full cheeks and kneading them. grinding his ever-stiff cock against your clothed peach. it's like he can't even hear you when you tell him that you're trying to concentrate. all he can think about is slipping between your cheeks and fucking himself into you until he's exhausted from cumming so hard.
wooyoung: wooyoung isn't a panty thief, he can at least stand by that. what he is, though, is someone who obsessively thinks about your panties in order to get himself off. he does daily "panty checks" before you leave the house under the guise of "just making sure you're wearing some ha ha." you think he's just being possessive and maybe a little funny. but what he's really doing is making sure he knows exactly what pair of panties you're wearing that day for his obligatory lunch-break-bathroom-visit. one in which he cums all over his hand thinking about your panties. on particularly horny days, he stops by your favorite place to buy underwear on his way to work to pick out a pair as similar to the ones you're wearing as he can find and uses those while he jerks himself. because, remember, he isn't a panty thief. that somehow makes him feel better.
jongho: jongho hates to feel like he's perving on you. you're so precious to him and you don't deserve to be treated so disgustingly. but fuck, he can't help himself when you're on the phone with him and he hears your adorable little giggle, his favorite sound in the whole world. you sound so cute and small and innocent. it drives him mad. his hand always finds its way into his underwear and wrapped firmly around his twitching cock. he's so good at hiding it from you. he's got a good poker face and a good poker voice. even when he's making himself cum to your laugh. he always makes sure to encourage you to call him when you're out with your friends. you don't really understand this because you're not so good at paying attention to him when you're with your friends, but he says it makes him happy to hear you happy. and it does... it makes him really fucking happy to hear you giggling away with your friends. the cum all over the insides of his underwear is proof.

Ok, I'm going to say something a bit dodgy, do take into account that my beef is with Rick and not Annabeth.
I might have been tempted to read The Chalice of the Gods (as opposed to anything after Staff of Serapis, which I've given a pass) if I didn't know that, as long as Annabeth is there as well, Percy won't be well-written. More specifically, he won't be written as himself.
When Rick wrote HoO, he had to figure out how to include Annabeth in the seven without having all these other powers dwarf her out. He did this by establishing a strict division of labour, according to which she was the strategist, and no one else. That has never been the case, at least not in such an exacting way.
Percy's saved their butts with his plans at the very least as often as she has. He's outsmarted his opponents, he's manipulated them, he has like a signature move that he pulls in almost every single book that basically goes "forget you're an almighty entity who could probably just ignore me without any problem and get down here and fight me at my level!" (tlt: Ares, Luke (unsuccessfully, since he refuses). som: Luke again (successfully, since he plays on his need to control his army's opinion of him). botl: Antaeus. tlo: Kronos. technically Gaia in son), he's been the one to figure out what they needed to from the prophecies (som: that they needed to send Clarisse to camp. ttc: the thing with Atlas's curse. botl: that Nico was the ghost king. I don't include tlo bc Annabeth figured it out first), he often comes up with the winning plans, like how he was the one who figured out how to get past Cerberus, even if it was Annabeth's expertise that allowed them to pull through (just like it was Percy's skill and weapon that allowed Annabeth's plan for Medusa to succeed) or tangling Antaeus on the ceiling chains. The scene with Chrysaor? Perfect blend of knowledge of myths, strategic genius and pure labia. For all the times we see him lose his cool or speak impulsively, we also se him go "wait, this person is trying to provoke me, I have to chill". I saw a comment a little while ago that Percy should've been dragging Giants to the gods feet for them to finish off -- that's what he did! Only he didn't physically drag them there, he planned them there. He tricked Polybotes into following him to Terminus, into pissing Terminus off so he'd agree to help, then killed him. While it was far from complex, he's the one who came up with the strategy to beat Otis and Ephialtes, so they only had to wait for Bacchus to step up.
I'm not saying Annabeth isn't smart. She has an impressive store of knowledge, which in itself is a clever thing to store, because it matches with her style of managing resources -- be they mental, like her facts, or physical, like her hat or things she finds in her surroundings, like the glass balls in Medusa's lair. Annabeth is probably the best at looking at a situation and going "okay, let's look at what we have. Ah, yes, a limitless credit card. Ah, yes, a store-full of clothes that no one's going to want back. Ah, yes, those weird-ass proteins that Hermes gave us, just like Hermes gave someone else food for a place just like this. Ah, yes, knowledge of how to fly a helicopter."
Here's the thing, though. When I read the phrase "Athena-like chatter", I almost broke something laughing. She's good with lies, hers are better and more believable than her friends'. When it comes to chatter, though... I couldn't even tell you how good she is, because I don't think I've ever seen her do something like that before MoA?
But, you know, okay, Rick has to spend more time in her head, she's been elevated in status to one of several protagonists instead of a deuteragonist as she was in PJO (he has to solve this oopsie - I don't agree with everything here, like how, except for her intelligence, Annabeth's other skills are "dump stats", but...), so he has her expand. Good for her. I think it worked alright in her fights in MoA -- a little bit of the old (impressive expertise in certain areas, management of resources), add a little bit of the new (a perceptiveness and gift of gab that she's rarely shown before, if ever, although you could argue she might have taken the "talk your enemy into beating itself" from Percy just like she learned to simplify from Frank).
That's not my real problem. It's this, from when they're fighting Akhlys:
Percy wanted to give her more time. She was the brains. Better for him to get attacked while she came up with a brilliant plan.
... What. Of everything that we've seen of Percy. That I've described just now. Makes sense with this? And please don't give me crap about "it's because his self-esteem is so low!" because 1) this isn't just about what he's thinking, it's about what he's doing, which is pretty much nothing while he waits for Annabeth to save them. He's never lacked initiative like this. Even while thinking, "wow, this absolutely crazy and dimwitted plan is so bad that it's going to get us all killed!" he still did it. ( 2) I've heard "it's bc of his self-esteem/ he plays dumb on purpose" to justify fandom's constant underestimation of Percy's smarts too many time to let it fly now.)
"It's because he trusts Annabeth's judgement more than his own, and he lets her do what she does best when she's available. Other times he's been forced to come up with a plan, it's because she isn't." Did he wait for Annabeth to shoot her shot with Ares before going in with his own plan? Did he keep quiet his misgivings about her level of preparation for the Labyrinth in BotL? Did he leave her to organize the battle plan in TLO? Did he give up after Chrysaor beat him twice in a sword fight and wait for her to come up with a plan? Absolutely not.
"Well, he still beat Akhlys, so I don't see what you're complaining about, it's not like he's useless or anything." True. It wouldn't be the first time he has to resort to brute force to get past an enemy he couldn't outthink (the telekhines come to mind) or that he never even bothered trying to outthink (Hyperion comes to mind), because it's not like strategizing is something that's essential to Percy's style, even if it does come up a lot. I said before that it's his actions that bother me and not what he was thinking, but there is some of that, too. That he wasn't thinking "I can't figure out what to do" or even too busy fighting to start to wonder about what to do, but "there's nothing I can contribute here but my fighting skills". It's sadly a dynamic that Rick has tried to encourage between them.
Sure, Percy only ever gets more powerful, but, even without Annabeth around, he loses any of his braincells. Look at his underwater fight with Polybotes. He starts off in the ship with an impressive display of power -- holding the ship together in the middle of a supernatural storm. Then he gets underwater and immediately loses to PB. The guy he would've one-shotted several times if he could kill him without a god's help. "He doesn't have experience fighting underwater," water not only gives him a strength boost, it gives him a skill boost, as we see in TLT. Besides, how much skill do you need to not swim directly into a cloud of poison? And really, he doesn't get to do anything but that.
Compare it to SON. He's fighting an almost-whole legion of dead people, with a mix of sword fighting and a whirlwind, and he might have won if they hadn't been able to reform. Recognizing that he was about to lose and to give Frank and Hazel a chance to fight Alcyoneus without having to worry about the army, he brings a whole end of the iceberg down to drown them all. And yet, you know what really struck me of all this? How smart Percy was, because he didn't just fight the legion. He aimed for the eagle, realizing that that would be the best way to keep them focused on him and not Frank.
If he's this capable, though, where does that leave Annabeth, who's a skilled warrior but whose most distinctive trait is thinking?
The whole power/smarts dichotomy is also the actual context of that line about Annabeth being the most powerful demigod. He's just spent two weeks teaching Magnus how to survive at sea, when it suddenly occurs to him that the most helpful thing for him to learn is how to "use what you've got on hand -- your team, your wits, the enemy's own magical stuff." Which is how, despite how often he's done just that, he concludes that Annabeth is the most powerful demigod and the best person to teach him how to survive. (Which is, sadly, all that that comment amounts to. Annabeth doesn't then get a chance to strut her stuff, teach Magnus, show off her smarts, play a part however small in his quest, give some insight into her mind -- nope! She says it was sweet of him and then just leaves with Percy.)
With a bit of luck, RR reread pjo to nail down the feel of it in order to write a book that's supposed to be a tie in for a tv show set in the early days (that's a lot of subordinates!), so he might've rediscovered the characters and found a way to balance that with the... way that he writes them now. I'm not optimistic, though.
(Also, if I have to read more of Percy being always afraid of Annabeth getting angry at him or her looking angry at the smallest of things and this being played as her being a girlboss, or how you "have to keep your boyfriend on his toes", I'll claw my own eyes out, but that's another topic.)

Can you please share all the times Tim was misogynistic? I just want to have panels ready in case any of his stans got too brave
rip I don't have the post someone else made breaking it down due to changing computers.
In general, though, a lot of it is less "this singular panel proves it" and more the way he consistently treats girls and women. Steph is the best example. She starts exactly where Tim started before fanboying himself into Batman's confidence. She is a teenager with limited training who wants to do good. Tim treats it as if it's ridiculous that she should be a superhero, and he continuously tries to dissuade her from it and acts like she does not belong. It takes a very long time for Tim to stop being condescending to Steph.
Tumblr media
Robin #41
Like. This is not at the way start of his series. This is after she's been spoiler and he's been Robin for a bit. I'm p sure he only changes his tune on Steph once they start dating. Later on, in Nicieza's run, even after Steph has been a vigilante for over 150 comic issues worth of time, Tim acts as if Steph has an imperative to obey him and to stop being Spoiler (link)... and ofc he focuses a lot on whether the female characters were listening to him. This continues into Red Robin IIRC where he tells Steph he should not see her in her Spoiler outfit again. He continuously acts as he has authority over her for ???? reasons? He fanboyed his way into Bruce's confidence and she didn't?
Anyway Tim in general just does not respect women. Like. Here we have him dragging away his high school GF b/c she isn't listening to him when he was appearing like a bad boyfriend due to robin shenanigans (instead of, you know, being treated like a bad boyfriend for this 9_9) (link)
Tim also is judgmental in general (which is a trait I feel works well for his character, and I enjoyed the writer who was most interested in treating it as an intentional flaw rather than something they were writing accidentally), and this extends ofc to this weird instance (link) where it's incredibly important the reader know if he finds some lady hot... that said, I think this is one of the only instances of him judging someone as "hot or not" for the most part it's the type of judgment he gives to Steph or Zo, where "obviously you're not as competent as me or capable of making your own decisions or doing the stuff I do."
I would say I don't recommend getting into arguments about him if you haven't read the comics you're arguing about, though, because there are people with different interpretations of these scenes. Many people like to separate the "Tim is likely sexist because the author is sexist* so it shouldn't be counted" as most of these writers, except Lewis (writer of the judgmental bit and many early 100s Robin comics) don't treat it as a flaw or as something he should be wrong for. It'd be best to come to your own opinion about it, rather than assuming you'd agree with me :P
*which is fine, you know, as long as you extend this to female characters who are written badly because the author is sexist and characters who aren't your fave in general. You'd also have to re-write characters who react to his sexism in ways that would be irrational if the sexism was removed.

I read it in a post somewhere that said Tyler shouldn't be shipped with anyone, what do you think about that?
well, i'm not gonna go out of my way and pick a fight with that random blog just bc they said something i don't agree with, that's for sure.
idk why you're even asking me for my thoughts on a matter i'm not directly involved with (unless that blog is specifically targeting me, in which case then i'd like to know who they are) cause, it's not like the person who posted that was looking to change their mind regarding their opinion.
fandom spaces isn't meant to have a hive mind where we all need to agree on everything, we all have different opinions on certain matters, and as long as people keep to themselves and don't start petty ship wars, i feel like we can all coexist without having to agree on just one hc or ship.
again, people have different viewpoints and interests, even those in the same fandom, so i'm sure we all have different opinions and takes about these characters and who to ship with who, so as long as you stay respectful and not like be weird or bully other people for what they like then i see no need to make a counter argument for that post about why i personally ship tyler with ashlyn, and why i don't agree with that person's opinion.
idrk if your ask is meant to insinuate an argument with me or with the person who wrote that post, but if you generally just wanna know my thoughts, then let me summarize this for you in a short: i don't care if other people don't like ashler as a ship, i will continue to ship tyler and ashlyn together bc i like this ship and it makes me happy. when it comes to curating my fandom experience, only my likes and interests matter.
(personally, i highly encourage you to have a similar mindset when it comes to interacting with fandom!)

I've seen some theorise that Tomura decaying represents "the death of tomura shigaraki a being of hate and the false persona created by afo" which means that tenko shimura is free and can live again (considering the roles names and identities play in mha). What's your opinion on that?
hard disagree especially considering the story is now trying to sell us that "tenko" is also an afo construct, from his family struggles to his heroic hopes to even his fuckin birth lmao. i fall in line with what @codenamesazanka said about 'shigaraki' and 'tenko' as personas here, where despite afo's influence there is something real. it's weird to say that shigaraki is false because of afo's influence when what we learned is that tenko as a whole exists because of afo's influence. both of them have gotta be real or fake or nothin.
but i would have disagreed even without the 419 development. i never agreed with the interpretation of there being a clean break between tenko and tomura. shigaraki's frustrations and desires stem from what he experienced as a child, even with the amnesia; tomura's formed his own relationships and goals beyond afo; he straight up has just spent more of his lived life as tomura than he did as tenko. SHIGARAKI is the character that i first fell in love with, because he's enough of a full, charismatic, and engaging character on his own without being reduced to a crying child.
i'm also kind of so-so on whatever people might be saying about names and identities? i think that there is importance there, but it's not that going by one name or another indicates entirely discrete personas. i don't wanna do an in-depth thing about it, but i pulled a couple of quotes about the whole hero/codename thing to reference.
What future do you see for yourself? The name you choose will bring you ever close to cementing a certain image…because names are capable of reflecting one’s true character.
Aizawa, Chapter 45
the phrase "cementing a certain image" could be interpreted as trying to put up a false persona, but "names are capable of reflecting one's true character" messes with that, because it's the new hero names that are meant to represent that truth. more accurately, i'd say that hero names evoke an idealized self that the students are learning to embody. midoriya reclaims deku, tsuyu as cutesy froppy is meant to be approachable, shoto is trying to self-actualize as himself, bakugou wants to murder people with explosions, kirishima and iida are trying to live up to their personal heroes, etc etc.
at no point are the kids trying to be something that they aren't. they're working towards who they want to be.
if one wants to argue about different names symbolizing different selves/personas, the best example is probably all might/toshinori, who does literally do his hero work as a separate persona up until kamino. but most of his story afterwards is that learning that just because he no longer as one for all, the power that made him all might, doesn't mean he actually stops being a hero/all might. as badly demonstrated by him donning that dumb fucking mecha. in any case he more or less reconciles those parts of himself i guess.
in contrast, we have this more recent lore about codenames:
There basically used to be no difference between heroes and villains. One theory says…the alias stuff started when you’d have an anonymous enemy and needed to call them something. From there, some decided to adopt those very nicknames to hide their identities. Assuming another identity - like a new skin - was a matter of survival. At some point, they went all-in with code names, ripped straight from comic books. According to this theory, it all started with people announcing themselves by those aliases. That’s why the world’s turned into a comic book.
Shigaraki, Chapter 393
here we do have the claim that adopting a new name is similar to adopting a new identity, which lends itself to the idea that you're trying to escape an original/true self, or protect that self from harm. spinner, twice, and dabi are all in ways trying to reinvent themselves, to escape or separate from the things that hurt shuuichi, jin, and touya. mr compress it just stylish. that doesn't stop who they WERE being a part of who they ARE, though. there's also no way for them to go back to who they were, it's just part of them.
it's also really interesting that toga and shigaraki explicitly did not take on villain names (because shigaraki tomura isn't a villain name, because one, this is before he recovers his memories as tenko and two, literally just his name, that he lives every day with.), because they make no pretense about approaching villainy as anything but themselves. this is toga's whole deal, that she wants to live in the world as herself without compromise.
overall, i'd approach the idea of names + identities the same way i approach the running narrative thread about 'origins'. in a sense these origins represent a "truth" about the characters, but it's not that these origins are the only true thing about them. the origins act as a starting point, a reminder of what the characters value and what they want to do. it's grounding, not all encompassing.
anyways nah shigaraki was never anymore false that tenko is and that's that i guessssssssss no matter what. the story says.

I sincerely hope one day you can escape from the RadFem cult and learn that you don't have to live your life in fear. It can be hard to recognise propaganda at first but there are resources out there to help you. However, it can't start until you're ready, so until then us good members of society have to run damage control on your awful politics.
Hey. So here's an essay on cult-like thinking from this wonderful reidentified woman and lesbian writer I just discovered:
I don't agree with everything this author says, but I agree with most of it, and I think this perspective is important.
On radical feminism: I found a community to surround myself with that prioritizes women, celebrates our gender nonconformity and critical thinking, and raises awareness about the depths of misogyny and male violence.
I'm not in a cult anymore. I no longer avoid information from sides I disagree with. I regularly engage with ideas that differ from my own. I'm open to changing my mind about things, but I know why I believe what I believe. This was not the case when I was in radical queer spaces.
They regularly misrepresented the beliefs of an entire branch of feminism and the group that closely aligns with it, telling everyone to "block and stay safe" and "you're bigoted if you start to think biological sex (with a diversity of expressions) matters more than gender identity" or even that "Trans women are trans women, and don't share many of the experiences that biological women do as female bodied people."
If you reposted from one of the blacklisted accounts, usually something feminist and nothing to do with trans people, you were a suspect, and you would be dog piled on unless you deleted it. They all began to interpret basic feminist consciousness as a red flag until everyone who didn't listen to radfems stopped posting about feminism altogether. It's a little better now than it was a few years back. But it's still not great.
This attitude is not only found online anymore. There is a group of people who are no longer my friends because I started asking questions and disagreeing with them about the nature of "gender" as a sociological concept, as a social role assigned to the sexes, rather than a highly individual internal feeling and identity that everyone supposedly has. These were the type of people who refused to engage with opinions that differ from their own. These were the people ruled by a fear of stepping out of line. They would cut people off for the smallest perceived missteps. I don't befriend people locked into that cult-like mentality anymore. No matter what end of the political spectrum it comes from.
P.S. I've been talking openly with my normal, very offline cousin about every "radfem" belief I have, including the feminist ones criticizing male violence, and the ones criticizing the very online behavior of the group of people shouting that "sex isn't real" or "isn't overwhelmingly dimorphic" or that "trans people are being genocided in the U.S." or whatever, and she 100% agrees with everything I say. Can you say the same? Or do very offline people get weirded out and concerned when you talk queer orthodoxy bullshit? Just asking.

Don't know if you're still taking reverse HCs. If you are- JGY is madly, rather obviously in love with Su Minshan. SMS has no particular opinion on the matter. (If you're not, sorry for bothering you.)
“Isn’t it weird?” Xue Yang wanted to know.
“Not…really?” Su She replied, thinking it over and then shrugging. “I mean, he’s not pushy about it or anything.”
“But he’s…y’know…super into you.”
Su She shrugged again. He was well aware of Jin Guangyao’s fixation on him – he still hadn’t decided if the actual cause of it was Jin Guangyao displacing his inappropriate feelings for Lan Xichen on him, given how vaguely similar to a Lan Su She looked, or if it was genuine, but in either case, he wasn’t exactly going to object. Jin Guangyao had saved his life when he’d been at his lowest point, remembering him at the moment when it seemed that everyone else had forsaken or forgotten him, and Su She owed him everything.
If Jin Guangyao wanted to crush on him, that was fine.
“Just seems weird, that’s all,” Xue Yang said. “How can you spend so much time hanging around a person who clearly wants to bone you without, you know, doing something about it? One way or another?”
“He’s never said anything about it,” Su She pointed out in return. “If he did, then I’d have to make a decision, but he hasn’t. So it’s fine as it is.”
“You’re all right with it just being ambiguous forever?” Xue Yang scowled. “What if he did ask? What would you do?”
“I’d probably agree? It’s not like he’s unattractive, objectively speaking, and I’d be happy making him happy.”
“Then why don’t you go for it?”
“Because I don’t feel strongly enough about it.”
“Argh! How can you not feel strongly enough about it?! What even is ‘it’ in this context?”
“A romantic relationship, I suppose. Me initiating would be misleading as to the strength of my feelings on the subject…and besides, why do you care, anyway?” Su She asked waspishly. “Unless you’re planning on moving in with someone who has no idea that you’re interested in them? Or worse, that does but isn’t reciprocating openly?”
“Shut up.”
“The day you fall in love, Xue Yang, will be a day for the ages,” Su She said, making it clear he meant it in the same vein as one did when referencing a horrific flood that destroyed an entire county. “It’s going to ruin your life, mark my words.”
“Yeah, well, let it,” Xue Yang said, rolling his eyes. “At least I have the reassurance of knowing that I wouldn’t be a coward about saying something!”

Can you give me ideas about the fate of my OC Tyrell? On the other hand, we have the stubborn young firstborn girl like her father Hoster Tully, Tulyp Tully, with long red hair like a river and blue eyes like a lake. She rebelled against her father and married Maren Tyrell, who abandoned his titles as Tyrell to be with Tully, marrying in Essos. They had a daughter, let's call her Taryn for now. Shortly after they die in mysterious circumstances, the Tyrells simply give her the family name but leave her to her own fate. Catelyn who always admired her older sister, Tulyp, decides to take Taryn to Winterfell as a kind of revenge for the arrival of Jon Snow and to have more connection with her dead sister. Taryn is the reassuring one of the family, she knows about literature and romance, being thus the best friend of her cousin Sansa and is allowed to train with swords, making her close to her other cousin Arya. When Ned agrees to be the king's hand, Petyr Baelish finds himself intrigued by her, gradually realizing that it is not because of her status as a noblewoman, but because of her personality as Taryn that she is INTJ.
Hi, honey!! I love that you wanted to share with me about your oc.
Ok, first I think that she won't have the surname of house Tyrell, because not only his father lost his titles and right to his family name for marrying her mother, but also she is a bastard ( the marriage is not legitimize by a priest of the seven), so her surname would be "flower", that is the surname that the bastards of house Tyrell have. Maybeee if you want her to have a noble surname, it will be Tully, because I think Hoster will be more likely to have some appreciation for the girl because of its love for his first child ( idk much about Hoster Tully personality, so I don't know for sure what he would do in this situation, but for the convenience of the plot I will do it like this), nevertheless he have to send a request to the king to legitimize a bastard ( a over complicated task if you ask me).
About the whole thing with Catelyn, I thought at first that she could pass as Catelyn child/bastard, but i immediately discard it because it will go against the character devoted wife that we see in the books. So, Ned will obviously now all about Taryn's parentage and will help Catelyn raise her as one of her children wink wink ( I think anyone, even Taryn, not knowing her real parentage will be a huge plot twist hehe). You can choose one of this two if you like (bastard/ Catelyn and Ned false child), obviously this is all my opinion and im not trying to impose.
Knowing a little about the personality of Taryn by what you're telling me, the relationship with Petyr will be a long slow burn/ enemies to lovers troupe type of relationship, because I don't think she is an innocent dove like Sansa, so she would realize the intentions of Petyr right away (having feelings for Petyr will create a GREAT internal conflict between her moral sense and her feelings). In this case, Peter at first will have a weird obsession with her because of how similar she is to Catelyn (idk If you intend her and her aunt to be physically similar), but then when the truth is revealed about her true parentage and also getting to know her and seeing that she is the opposite of what Catelyn is, things will change, he would no more see her as an extension of her crush but as a individual person aside from Catelyn.
(i lost myself in the relationship dynamic too much, if you have new ideas about her you can ask me!!! I will gladly respond)

Not the same anon as the other ask, but I guess my question comes from the difference between personal vs political opinion on people who consume that type of media. Like if someone wants to draw some fake anime kids having sex (let’s say they do it because that’s a thing they like to imagine and not for any satire reason), I don’t think they should be put in jail or anything, but I do think that they’re a creep no matter whether they aren’t harming any real kids or not and I wouldn’t want to be friends with them. Even if they would never harm a real kid, even if their account is marked 18+ only and they rigorously check every follower and block them if they even suspect they’re a minor, I still wouldn’t want to interact with this person because if someone enjoys creating and consuming that content, that is an interest I find disgusting because just because the kids they are imagining are fake it can’t be completely de-linked from the existence of irl children or at least attraction to the traits associated solely with them
As a second, semi-unrelated question, I guess it begs the question on drawn cp (I know you don’t agree with the term but there’s not better one) of real people, like the adults who drew porn of, say, the cast of It back in 2017 when they were all between 13-16? Sure it didn’t involve making real kids do those things, but it was depictions of real kids doing sex acts and I don’t see how them not being directly involved means using their faces to make porn is okay. (Not to accuse you of supporting this, genuinely curious on where you think the distinction lies if any)
Thanks for the question! Appreciate you being thoughtful and respectful about these difficult topics, and I trust that those of you who see this ask shan't clown in the notes.
I think it's valid of you to have your own personal boundaries about who you interact with online. It's clear that you've reflected on exactly why you find this interest disgusting, which is great, we love critical dissection in this household, but I'd like to push back on that a little. I find it interesting that you specifically mentioned anime in this question. If we're talking attraction to traits associated solely with children, that's an area where anime really muddies the waters. After all, it's very easy to find anime 14 year olds with 8 packs and chiseled jawlines and anime 28 year olds, especially women, that look like children — not to mention the 1000 year old loli trope. In many cases, especially in shonen fandoms, someone who didn't know the canon ages of the characters wouldn't be able to differentiate between nsfw art of adults and minors even if they were all drawn perfectly on-model. And then of course we could get into the weeds about the distinction between children and teenagers, ages of consent in different countries, weird timeline stuff that goes on in a lot of anime and creates a bunch of technicalities (like Kusuo Saiki being physically 16 but mentally 21), how this relates to real people with disorders that make them appear prepubescent long after the age of majority, et cetera, et cetera. I definitely understand why it makes you uncomfortable, but I'm generally not as quick to judge creators of anime porn on the basis of association with childish traits simply because anime is so stylized that such associations kind of lose meaning. I mean, I'm attracted to anime men, and I experience zero attraction to people in real life, so it's easy for me to see how what someone enjoys in anime and what they're attracted to IRL could be fairly divorced. I'm not trying to argue that you're wrong, just something to think about, I guess.
As for your second question, hoo boy. The issue of explicit art of real children kinda relates to another issue i've seen people talk about, that of explicit RPF of real minors. It's a conversation that I think demands a lot of critical analysis and discussion that people are unfortunately generally not willing to have in a public forum. For the sake of my answer, I am determining that we are solely talking about minors who are under 18 in real life and are American so we don't have to deal with any age of consent debates. This includes minors who play over-18 characters but not child characters played by adult actors, or else we have to start talking about Riverdale and that's a whole other conversation.
I guess I can start with praxis. Let us assume that we all agreed that this is Wrong and Bad. Come play with me in this space without assuming anything about my position from this hypothetical. What now? What concrete actions could institutions take to prevent the existence of Wrongbadthing? Would it be morally right for people to harass those who create or enjoy Wrongbadthing? The relevant entities here would be the US government, AO3, and platforms that host art. I am against most government restrictions on art that people create, because they will inevitably be interpreted through a far broader lens than their original intention. And I don't think it would be productive for AO3 to ban certain types of explicit fic. People would just stop tagging their explicit minor RPF as such, and then we still have equal volumes of the Wrongbadthing but without the tools for people to avoid it. Not to mention it raises logistical problems with moderation and enforcement. Like, what happens when a celebrity turns 18? Are people then allowed to write explicit fic about them when they were younger than that? Maybe we can all agree that it's bad for a 30 year old author to write porn about a 13 year old actor — but what about a 15 year old author writing porn about a 16 year old actor? Any distinction between the two regarding enforcement would require some sort of age verification beyond self-identification, and that's a recipe for disaster. as for platforms like twitter that would host the kind of explicit art we're talking about, well. i think it's pretty easy to see how any sort of enforcement on a minor rpf explicit art ban would be an absolute nightmare. it's hard enough for social media sites to even enforce a porn ban. now imagine a porn ban that needs to incorporate facial recognition of a bunch of people across all different art styles — im not sure that's even possible. as for harassment — the most common punitive response on the individual level — i dont think that's justified in this case. as you've pointed out, regardless of personal feelings on the subject, this art isn't causing material harm to any real person.
I honestly don't engage with RPF communities in general — it's one of my squicks — and I'm not quite comfortable making grand moral generalizations about people I've never really interacted with. From what I understand, there are commonly accepted codes of ethics within RPF communities, and I'm not really sure how those mesh with explicit fic about real minors.
i am personally...not a fan of explicit RPF fic and art about real minors, to say the least. i think it ties into larger celebrity culture that objectifies and sexualizes children in the limelight. but like. what am i gonna do about it? doing journalism has forced me to learn how to not get outraged or disgusted about things i cant do anything about. i just don't follow those people. I'd defend their right to host their work on the platforms we use, but only because any effort ive seen proposed to restrict that work would cause more harm than good and wouldn't even be remotely effective at its stated goal. in terms of harm reduction, the best i can do is support moderation policies that allow that stuff to be clearly tagged and RPF informal ethics codes that stress a firm division between fandom and subject.
i haven't yet formed a super solid discursive framework that i'm confident in defending about this issue, so i'll just fall back on praxis lol
would love to hear from someone who's more involved in RPF than i am haha!

hey! i have context for you, re: the thing that both tonia and the person on bluesky would have have been responding to. it's towards the end of anonymousad's hellishly long and weird shelterwood takedown and it, uh, doesn't exactly make them look any better. if you want to see if you can """read and understand""" (lmao, you're right, that sucks so bad) the true meaning of their words, here they are, in full context so as to avoid accusations of cherrypicking! "as an example, let's look at the Afflicted Season 2 crowdfunding campaign that just ended in failure.
this was a FIXED GOAL campaign. they were asking for $23,500 USD and they only made it to $13,283, just over 50% of the way there. so they got none of it. it was all or nothing and the result this time was nothing.
and that really sucks for a lot of reasons.
I had some criticisms about that campaign that I kept to myself at the time, in part because diverse voices in audio drama is really important. Afflicted provided a lot of opportunities for marginalized creators to get established and share their unique voices. so often the campaigns that are getting met are the ones that continue to prop up the same types of voices and experiences as we've all heard before.
I am much more interested in the unique horror that a show like Afflicted is bringing to the table as a production driven by a Black woman than I am with hearing from the same types of voices we are used to. we have a lot of similar people making stuff in the community, and frankly a lot of our "diversity" is mostly driven by being white and queer. these voices are important too and there's a lot that is good, but that is the majority in this space. that's why we need to make sure we are getting opportunities to the people who don't have the privilege or connections.
this is a personal opinion, not one everyone will agree with. but we are better as a community when we do extra work to make sure that more varied diversity is highlighted and supported.
Afflicted planted their foot saying "this much or nothing" and took the gamble that most of these high number campaigns are unwilling to do. a gamble that they succeeded in last year to fund the first season.
the difference is partly that the economy looked really different last year. disposable income, rent prices, general cost of living. it wasn't great, but it was better than it is now and that MATTERS. we all know how fucking bad it is right now, especially in the US, so to be asking these massive amounts of money is tone deaf. in this case, Afflicted was even asking for MORE than they raised for season 1. you could argue some of that is because they already managed to prove themselves as creators who were good for the money and deserved that kind of chance.
but the fact of the matter is that people just don't have that kind of cash to give over and over.
which leads into my main point.
every time I see a campaign with this high of a goal I think one thing:
"this is hurting the community."
now, that may not sound reasonable to some of you, especially if you are one of the people who believes that numbers this high are justifiable.
when we talk about supporting each other from a audio drama creator standpoint, it is done so freely and with an understanding that new listeners isn't really a thing we're going to run out of. if I recommend 10 podcasts I like, that doesn't hurt MY show. it just helps the community by sharing things we generally enjoy and care about it. this is how you end up with the networks of support that we've seen in newer places like the Audio Drama Lab.
unfortunately, money is not the same.
the amount of money that each of us has to give to support the things we like is limited based on our individual situations. anyone recommending a specific crowdfunding campaign to give money to DOES have an impact on the amount of money left in the pool for others.
so when something like Shelterwood or Arden or Afflicted or Among the Stacks or The Magnus fucking Protocol asks for these amounts, this is ACTIVELY impacting whether other campaigns will succeed."
Ooooh, okay, okay, okay.
So
Thank you for sending me the context, I do quite enjoy reading drama at times
I actually don't mind accusations of cherry picking, it's fine either way but thank you for your concern. It's very sweet.
The main reason I'm about to do what I'm about to do is because I've actually had microaggressions on the brain for plot reasons and this is positively wonderful practice to put these things into words.
Alright, so OPs argument here is that there's a set amount of money in the AD pool from which we can draw from, and that taking bigger draws for a production leaves too little for the rest of the AD community.
I'm not going to argue whether this is true or false right now (but I am going to point out...what this echoes later and why I do not like the argument) and instead am going to continue as if this statement is fact.
My question is why bring up the race and gender of Afflicted's creator? The entire diversity statement here is completely unnecessary. If the argument is that big budget audio dramas are taking too much money, and that is detrimental to ADs economic ecosystem then it does not matter if Afflicted's show runner was an alien from Venus. OPs decision to bring up the race and gender of the showrunner and then point out that the actions from this particular production is harming the AD community was a contextual...decision.
And as a result the following is now colored by the acknowledgment of the creator's race and gender so things like hinting at the aggressiveness of the campaign
"Afflicted planted their foot saying 'this much or nothing'"
and that she's taking too much for the ecosystem to survive
"every time I see a campaign with this high of a goal I think one thing: 'this is hurting the community'"
...is just a bad look. Because these comments simply don't exist in a vacuum.
I also have to wonder why the chose Afflicted in the first place. This could have been avoided if they had brought in the numbers of the Magnus Archives Protocol (whose numbers are still available ~700,000 pounds) or Arden (a successful campaign that aimed for 26,000 but made a tidy $12,065 and will use that money to continue production) or Shelterwood (which aimed for $26,000, made ~$6,000 and will also be going into production). Because...why use a "failed campaign" to highlight the money this one production is taking and "harming the community" with, when they, in reality, took nothing at all?
Why choose Afflicted? Was it timing? Was it because they were at hand? Was it because it gave OP a chance to talk about how accepting they were to different types of diversity?
Let's zoom out for a moment. We've heard this argument before the "there's not enough to go around and some people are taking too much and leaving too little for everyone else"...in things like affirmative action, and immigration. It's a very faint, "if you blink you might miss it" replacement theory argument.
And it begins to fall apart when they bring up this argument
when we talk about supporting each other from a audio drama creator standpoint, it is done so freely and with an understanding that new listeners isn't really a thing we're going to run out of. if I recommend 10 podcasts I like, that doesn't hurt MY show. it just helps the community by sharing things we generally enjoy and care about it.
Because if there's an understanding that new listeners aren't really a thing the AD community is going to run out of...while claiming that the funds (coming from people who donate, aka the pool of listeners that is ever growing) is stagnant the argument fails to hold up.
All in all, very odd. I'd claim there's a lot here that I didn't touch upon such as the acknowledgment that the AD pool is majority white and that the one production in this list that is asking for the least amount cash at highest stakes that contains the highest concentration of diverse voices is somehow taking money from the acknowledged "majority" is a bit of a hot mess, but I digress.

I don't think Camilo helping Pepa is such a big deal, she was visibly having a panic attack.
Also I think her behavior is caused by Alma's abuse, don't get me wrong she done some shitty things, but considering the fact that her mother was forcing her to be constantly happy from when she was five years old while not letting her feel other emotions caused her not to grew up emotionaly, what isn't something you can learn yourself, you need adult to teach you how to deal with your emotions in healthy way and Alma turned her daughter into a wreck which is snapping at others and lack control of her emotions, because her own mother never learned her how. Her anger at Mira was slightly justified as it truly looked like she was trying to sabotage Antonio's ceremony and proposal.
The things like anger at Bruno and Camilo calming her down are caused by the fact that her mother was scolding her for feeling angry or panicking because villagers wouldn't be happy of the weather, even when she is 50!
While this doesn't excuse her completly it is still hard not to understand why she is like that.
While Bruno was black sheep when they were adults what was confirmed by creator as Bruno at first was Encanto favorite so this strongly imply that Pepa was first scapegoat and victim of her mother's abuse.
Also Agustin and Julieta aren't as good parents as many think they gave her eldest daughter away and had no problem when Alma turned her into her trophy child(what is one of the worst things you can do to child), don't seem too close with her middle child, having no problem with her being overworked, the only child they seem to be truly close to is Mira.
I do have to disagree regarding your points about Pepa, for the most part.
Yes, you're absolutely right about Pepa's emotional instability being caused by Alma. 100% agree.
However, that doesn't excuse her from gossiping about Bruno, and for snapping and being mean to Mirabel.
No, Pepa's anger at Mira wasn't justified in my opinion. That woman was being mean to a child she was never there for, a child who was only trying to help in both Antonio’s ceremony and Isa’s proposal (which was Dolores’ fault, not Mira’s). If Pepa thought Mira was ruining both events (which she clearly didn’t), than she hadn’t right to get angry at a child.
Camilo shouldn't have to comfort and take care of his own mother when it should be the other way around. Yes, I often bring my parents their tea, but I don't I don't comfort them like you do with a toddler. It also doesn't help that we barely see Pepa be an actual mother.
Yes, Bruno made a joke he shouldn't have made because it was Pepa's wedding, and was in the right to be pissed in the moment, but not gossip about it for 21+ years like a mean girl! That woman is 50!
Where did you get the information that Bruno was Alma's favorite at some point? Because I don't think that was the case when Bruno was having (negative) visions at 5 years old as well. Can you give me a source?
I 100% agree that Julieta and Agustín weren't good parents either. They let Mirabel sleep in the nursery even at 15 years old, Julieta left Mirabel right after a house almost killed her for whatever bullshit Pepa called her for, and She and Gus didn't believe Mira when she talked about the cracks. Their relationship with Isabela was never even addressed in the film, which I find extremely weird.
Thank you for giving me your opinion. I'll answer your second ask later, but I hope we're still good :)

gimme your Bray headcanon! ::)
BRAY MY BESTIE
Sexuality Headcanon: very "try anything once," bisexual and while he wouldn't really describe himself as xeno he's dtf with aliens if one offered and they were high enough level of bro
Gender Headcanon: cis man
A ship I have with said character: eh i don't think i really particularly ship him with anybody? like suggest something to me and i'll probably be down but there's nothing that really stands out
A BROTP I have with said character: bray & cathka cause of @korblez, also bray & aria but like in the badass boss and loyal second kinda way i do love my diehard loyalty stuff
A NOTP I have with said character: eh, similar to the ship one about i feel like there aren't many people you couldn't make a decent case for shipping him with if you're a decent enough writer. lbh most ships with him outside of aria's inner circle are gonna be crackships anyway, have fun, just don't be weird
A random headcanon: so a tangentially related hc i nurse is that prior to the batarian embassy closing in [checks notes] Recent Year To Canon there were a decent amount of batarian spectres (if non-big three races aren't allowed to be spectres shepard wouldn't have gotten a shot at all i'll die on this hill yall just fell for the alliance's propaganda about how speshul they are), but when the embassy closed they were forced to choose between their duty and loyalty to the council vs their friends and family back home now trapped in the hegemony with no way out. some of them resigned and went back to khar'shan to save their loved ones from the hegemony's wrath, but some agreed to keep working for the council in secret, deep-cover and under the table where the hegemony won't find out, because the council aren't stupid and know letting them stay openly would risk further conflict and also put aforementioned spectres' loved ones in a shitload of danger from an increasingly paranoid and reactive government.
and sometimes. idk man sometimes i like to nurse the crackpot theory of what if bray was one of those undercover secret batarian spectres hiding from the hegemony. i think it would be fun. not my fault bioware are cowards and didn't want to do anything with all the potential the hegemony had for interesting character stories
General Opinion over said character: [points] dis my frien :) i just think he's neat okay we got NO examples of batarians not being all 2-d token evil species except bray and even he still kinda fits the mold of the same gruff grumpy dude but listen he had potential we could've had a batarian squadmate with a more nuanced take on the species like the one they robbed us of in me2 just hear me out okay
send me a character

New thoughts about Amrit:
Some time ago I made a post about my thoughts on Amrit but my opinion of him has changed drastically ever since so I figured I would make a new one.
First off, I want to say that I really don't agree that Amrit looked badass when he terrorised Killian and Lima. He rather looked like a 3 year old throwing a tamtrum because he didn't get what he wanted, not like a badass powerful man. And I also don't agree that he's confident. There's a big difference between real confidence and just being plainly arrogant. In Amrit's case, he doesn't come off as actually confident, in fact, I think his inflated ego is very fragile, that's why he keeps bragging so much. Real confidence doesn't need to brag all the time because you're sure of what you have. But Amrit tries so hard to look confident to hide his actual weak core. That's why he ressorts to arrogance, coercion and disdain, if he was actually confident, he wouldn't need to be arrogant nor condescending because his own confidence would speak volumes on its own. Now let's move on to some scenes that caught my attention:
If Amala doesn't pass the stat check:
Tumblr media
Okay it's clear Amrit's priorities are not Amala at all 😂 which gives credit to my assumption that he only wants her to restore the order (this also happens in his romantic route). I'm not really condemning him for this but as a Ratan romancer, I can't help but notice the difference and I'm baffled at how little Amrit seems to care about Amala as a person, it seems that he only cares because she's needed to save his land 🤷‍♀️ (which again, I'm not really condemning him for, I just found it curious). And I just think he could have been more tactful because telling someone their life is nothing is really not the way you'd talk to someone you want a favour from, but I suppose he's too arrogant for that.
If Amala asks him to stop his sexual talk:
Tumblr media
There's also this, he said this to Amala when she asked him to stop talking about sexual stuff after rejecting his sex scene. And I don't know but calling someone who doesn't want to engage in sexual talks with you a "prude" kinda rubs me the wrong way. It kinda gave me a bit of predator vibes because this guy really needs to understand the meaning of stop and be respectful about it. No means no, Amrit 🤷‍♀️
And last but not least, I hope the author stops so insistently pushing us towards him soon (specially when we are not into him in the slightest), because for real this is kinda giving me single-LI Chonces book vibes, not in the sense of screentime but in the sense that the story makes MC weirdly, artificially and immediately drawn to the single LI by default, just because the story says so (which is also why I highly dislike single LI books, it feels fabricated and strange, as in: this is the person you're supposed to be attracted to, even if you aren't, even if they suck, even if you don't know them very well). So back to Amrit, the point is that this "chemistry" between them comes off as really weird and unsettling to anyone who isn't interested in him in the slightest.
Not to mention, he made claims to Amala's body right after his "duties" and he undressed her when she was unconscious without her consent, so in conclusion, please Amrit just stay away from me, dude.

Okay so in 7x08 Hondo finds out from Nichelle (who was told by Annie lol) that Deac is retiring and there are a couple of scenes with the photo of OG team and Hondo's being all "Street just left, Luca retired, I can't lose Deac too" and this genuinely seems perminent.
Looking through the lens of final season I thought hum, whatever, okay, who cares, it's ending anyways. But now that obviously isn't true and I just cannot wrap my mind around the fact that writers have dug themselves a pretty weird hole. I guess it could've been worse and someone could've been killed off but still, all the heartfell goodbyes now make no sense if they are just going to reverse it and bring those characters back (which I will forgive them in that case because I don't care, I just want my men back) or, in my very biased opinion, if they don't bring them back you have... two main characters and a bunch of new kids which is literally now just a new show. And unfortunately, they didn't do their new characters justice at development either. I love them, but their stories just feel empty and fall flat in comparison to the OG team we knew.
I'm seriously curious how they managed to get yet another season when all the perception I saw about this season has been negative 🤷🏿‍♀️ And digging themselves out of this hole will be so hard for them, especially if they don't bring some/all the OGs for at least third or half of a season. They have 22 episodes so for their sake I hope they do the smart decision but looking at this dumpsterfire of a season, I'm not really holding my breath.
(Sorry for the lengthy message, I just had to vent a little)
~🧡
Annie Kay, mind your own business.😭
Don't apologize for the lengthy message! Thank you for sharing!
I actually watched a YouTube clip of the scene where Deacon says, "I wanted to be the one to tell you" but I didn't know Annie told Nichelle! One thing I did appreciate about that scene is the Hondo seemed genuinely upset that 20-David was breaking apart and wasn't the squad he had grown to love and trust anymore. That said, thank you for putting it in context and sharing all these great thoughts with me!!
I agree that the writers have put themselves and the characters in a very strange position going into season 8! Part of what makes it so weird to me is that from the very beginning of this season (even the announcement that the cancellation had been revoked), the writers claimed that everything would be tied together and ended nicely. And then with the s8 news, they've now added "but it also sets up another season." Because, like, you can't do both at the same time in my opinion. You can end it, or you can keep opportunities open for the next season. As you said, they've taken away those opportunities by ending story lines and eliminating character roles from the team and the show.
Your opinion on the flat characters and how the original cast was written out doesn't sound biased to me! It really does feel like a new show with every cast replacement they do, and unless they bring back the fan favorites who were there from day 1, I honestly don't see the point in watching or keeping the show on. You're 100% correct in saying it's a new show now, and it's not as good as it was.
"Looking at this dumpsterfire of a season" made me laugh!🤣 I was actually just talking to someone about how it got renewed. CBS claims that it's still one of their most-watched shows and averages 8.8 million or something viewers per episode (plus all the Netflix streams). HOWEVER, a bunch of people watching it doesn't mean it is good or needs to stay on! If they read any of the reviews or feedback, they'd know this! They're looking at numbers and not feedback, I think, which is the only reason they decided to keep it on. Personally, I'll be very surprised if s8 has many viewers as it airs.
Again, I wholly agree that the hole that they dug themselves into is a tricky one. If they continue without Luca, Street, and Deacon, they're going to lose a good number of viewers, but if they bring them back they run a risk of just making s7 pointless. In which case, people may assume s8 will be just as futile and inconsequential as s7. In the end, either way, they kinda screwed themselves. It seems like a lose/lose situation, and after a season of bad reviews and people begging for their favorite characters back, the future of S.W.A.T. seems pretty dismal.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and if there's any other spoilers or anything you want to discuss or share with me, I'd love that! (I've heard that the whole Luca getting shot story line was poorly done, so if you have an opinion on that, I'm all ears👀)
