Friendly reminder that Doctor John Watson had no one. He returned from the war ill and newly disabled. He had nowhere to turn at his most vunerable moments and drifted without purpose within his new, alien life.

Friendly reminder that Sherlock Holmes had no one. He was different, no one understood him. He had been battling addiction alone for years. His only chance at survival in a world he was ill-suited for was to carve out his own niche.

Friendly reminder that they met each other when each of them desperatly needed someone. Friendly reminder that Holmes was instantly open with Watson, and Watson was instantly smitten. Friendly reminder that Holmes provided Watson with a mystery, a distraction that Watson desperatly needed. Friendly reminder that Watson showered Holmes in praise when he was so unused to it. Friendly reminder that Holmes let Watson write about his life, and Watson helped him through crippling drug addiction.

They're both broken men who begin to heal in the presence of each other. They built their lives around each other, encouraged each other, comforted each other. If they hadn't met, their lives would have been worse for it.

I’m sorry but the best moments in original Sherlock Holmes are the parts that are just clearly Watson stopping the story to be passive aggressive, because if I had secured the readership of the entire city of London I also would make it their problem if my roommate of “it’s complicated” relationship status didn’t do his fucking dishes

My darling Watson 💗

“the good watson had at that time deserted me for a wife, the only selfish action which i can recall in our association.” from “the adventure of the blanched soldier” is referenced a lot.

but the following sentence is heart-wrenching.

“i was alone.”

So, i was thinking.

Sherlock Holmes obviously HATES 'passion crimes', as they are sometimes called (eg, cardboard box). One spouse kill the other and the person the other cheated with, or kiss one for baseless jealousy etcetc, and this might also be one of the reasons why he has such a low opinion on romantic (how to find any fault in it!).

But also, Sherlock Holmes, a man who cares so, so, so much and has an incredibly big heart, doing cocaine to cleanse the details of those cases from his mind, when he's young and when he's still not so sure of Watson and his affection towards him and exactly how much he can tell the good doctor. And then they get together and start aging together. Holmes dies and comes back and quits cocaine. And Watson is always there to remind him that life is much better than the awful, ugly case they just solved together. Watson is there to kiss him and hug him tight, shielding Holmes from his own thoughts going always back to what he just solved.

Watson is there instead of his 7% solution, much more stable and reliable than the injection. Holding him tight and keeping him together when all the awful things they saw in the cases come back to Holmes' mind.

Holmes starting to jokingly call Watson his 100% solution, since he has no need to dilute him.

And of course, whenever the thunder has the voice of the cannon or Watson is also having a hard time with memories Holmes is there for him, playing for him, reading for him, holding him close, making him listen to his heartbeat, bringing Watson back to the safety of 221b first and then to that of their cottage.

Sherlock insisting Watson be with him for cases in almost every story - 

Doyalist interpretation: Watson is the narrator, he has to be there so the story can be told in the first place

Watsonian interpretation: Sherlock has separation anxiety 

My deepest desire is for a Sherlock Holmes adaption with a Scottish Watson because one line in a Study in Scarlet mentions that he doesn't have any family in England and I used it as a thin excuse to incorporate Scottish Watson™ into my world view
