I love the idea of the dynamic between Ben knowing everything about how the island works, but not much about popular culture or actually having a life outside of following orders and doing things for the sake of the island. And Hurley wanting Ben to loosen up and also deal with some of that trauma that he’s got going on, but also being very ‘???’ about how the island works.

And Hurley has an uphill battle because the remaining people on the island:

Don’t know who he is just emerging from the forest and proclaiming him to be the new protector

Ben is here and has a history of being the Cause Of Problems and now he’s claiming to be good now and this new guy is vouching for him but how can we trust him when he’s a known liar

So trying to get Ben used to living a more settled and less traumatic life is challenging because the guy has been essentially running on fumes for years and now his conscience and trauma is catching up with him and isolating himself doing paperwork isn’t going to help that.

Headcanons for Ben & Hurley’s Adventures On The Island™️

Ben is sometimes very exasperated at Hurley continuously questioning stuff that he understood (or learned not to question) when he was barely a teenager. But also Hurley keeps trying to get Ben to sit down and eat some goddamn popcorn because what do you mean you haven’t watched [movie]?!

Ben has to to unlearn lying automatically as a form of putting up walls. Hurley becomes very adept at telling when Ben is lying (he doesn’t know if that’s part of being the Protector or if his friendship with Ben has granted him that).

Hurley introduces Ben to ‘his culture’ (ie movies and video games. He uses his powers as Protector to ransack an out-of-business Blockbusters at least once) - while also reading books Ben recommends even though he’s not much of a book guy but he wants to meet him halfway.

Both of them help each other process their grief, trauma, and PTSD from [gestures to the entirety of LOST]. Including flashbacks, nightmares and panic attacks. Both of them are good listeners, it’s getting the other to talk about their problems that’s the struggle (Hurley rambles about other things to change the subject while Ben will just keep working until he drops)

Following from that, Hurley keeps getting imposter syndrome and thinking he’s not good enough to be the Protector. And he doesn’t understand why Ben trusts him (Ben also has this exact fear too but hides it far better)

Ben is still unused to hugs, which is an issue as Hurley is a big hugger. He has picked ben up in a bear hug and spun him around at least once.

Basically Hurley has adopted the human equivalent of a rescued attack dog as his emotional support animal.

@infernalpursuit​ inquired: what's your muse's biggest dream? and in return, what's your muses worst nightmare? their best and worst possible ending according to them?

(( Miranda’s an odd muse when it comes to this question.

She’s someone who spends a lot of her time catastrophizing, constantly afraid that the worst is just about to happen, that something horrific is right around the corner. She’s constantly terrified in general, honestly, thinking of the world as dangerous and scary and thus kept closer to the Merkingdom for it, closer to their projected ideal life for her. The world is big, and scary, and it wants to hurt her. A lot of things would hurt her, and kill her, and do utterly unspeakable things to her, and they would do so at the first chance they get. Even moreso, a lot of these things want to destroy the Merkingdom, or want to harm it, and thus destroy all safety Miranda currently has and any future safety she could possibly find, stranding her in a world that wants to devour her whole.

In contrast, she finds it incredibly difficult to speak negatively about the Merkingdom. Sure, she’ll voice complaints and has things she would want done better, but that’s just it. A complaint about the way it’s operating isn’t negative about the Merkingdom overall, and in fact further supports its place and legitimizes its power. Miranda has a lot of issues admitting to herself even minor critiques and criticisms about the Merkingdom, about anything that suggests that it isn’t ultimate, that it isn’t final, that it doesn’t define her entire being, or that it’s harming her and harming the world at large. The Merkingdom is the entirety of the world that’s good, in her eyes. The Merkingdom is all she’s known and, if all goes according to plan, all she’ll ever know. To bring people to the Merkingdom is to promise them safety. To bring people under Merkingdom rule is to give them honor, justice, freedom, care, a future.

And this is when I reveal that, despite all of that, despite how black and white things are in Miranda’s mind, she actually doesn’t have any ideas as to what a good ending would look like for her, let alone the best ending. And for all of her fears and her terrors, she never actually conceived of a bad ending for herself, let alone the worst possible ending.

The first issue is the simplest. Miranda just... doesn’t think about the future.

I mean — she thinks about the future aplenty. But this is the worrying of someone who knows that an event is coming up, that it’s scheduled, and who has had it hung over her head like a swinging blade. She is not someone who thinks about what the future will look like. She is terrified of the future, constantly scared of it, and for that, avoids it. She avoids considering what she might be doing a year from now, or even a few months from now. Anything other than the present quickly vanishes from her mind, the shape of it unknown by her, unconceived and unthought. Miranda does not want to think about what she will look like when she’s older, so she doesn’t. She doesn’t want to think about having to take a suitor, so she refuses to consider what that would even look like.

Even moreso, she has to survive now first, and that occupies most of her mind. People who don’t know if today is guaranteed can’t afford to think about tomorrow, and this holds true for Miranda too. She’s spent so long in survival mode that she can’t consider anything other than the present, and she struggles to even recognize the passage of time due to this.

But, even moreso, Miranda just... doesn’t know what a good ending nor a bad ending would look like.

Miranda has a lot of fears, yes, and she is terrified of everything and constantly presented with horrible things that could happen to her, things that could happen if she strays, or if she’s not as good as she should have been, or if she can’t handle her duties, or if she fails the Merkingdom, or if the Merkingdom falls, or so on. There is a massive list of what-ifs, a list of threats and dangers, and Miranda has wrapped them all neatly up into a big box labelled as “ALL THE BAD MOST WORST THINGS THAT COULD EVER HAPPEN EVER” and she taped it shut and made sure she could never open it again and refuses to look at it. She only ever things about it in order to fear it, and be terrified of it, and never, ever goes near it or considers it or thinks about what might be inside. Because if she considered what was inside it, then she might start to think about them. If she began to seriously think about them, then she might start to think about how they might come about, and the logistical implications of them. And if she did that, then she might start to question them.

The same has happened for what Miranda thinks would make a good future. She has a list of things that the Merkingdom said is good and said that she wanted, and she took them, and accepted them, and refused to ever once think about them ever again.

In fact, she wants to stop thinking about them. She actively feels distress when she starts thinking about the future that she’s supposed to want, that she does want, and she doesn’t know why, and the fact that she’s feeling this and doesn’t know why is enough to freak her out and refuse to ever once think about it ever deeper again. Whatever the Merkingdom says she wants, she wants. She does not want to explain why she wants these things. She does not want to explain why these things are good. She does not want to explain how she plans to achieve these things. She just wants to want these things, and for them to suddenly manifest one day, and for no further input to be offered from herself.

More than anything, the most Miranda ever thinks about the future is wanting for, when something happens, that she won’t feel a thing and will go about her life as though nothing at all has changed.

Honestly, Miranda is just... A person who legitimately does not know who she is.

All of her sense of personal identity has been either single-handedly destroyed or disallowed to develop by the Merkingdom, and now she doesn’t even have answers to some of the most basic questions about herself. She has been purposefully left rudderless, left without a sense of identity or personhood, because she’s an object.

She is a tool for the Merkingdom to use, and her developing any sense of self would be akin to a tool developing rust. She does not need it for what she is going to be used for. It will only get in the way. So it’s shucked off, and she’s kept away from situations where she might start developing it, and the Merkingdom still remains in exquisite control over her. Tools don’t have ambition. Tools don’t need personalities. Tools don’t need to think about the future. Tools just need to do, and that’s all.

She has no biggest dream. She has no worst nightmare. She has no worst ending. She has no best ending. She fears everything in the world and she loves exactly what she is told to love.

She is going to be what the Merkingdom wants her to be, and then she will die. That’s all.

my (virtual) meeting with my thesis advisor is in... 7 hours. I'm sort of almost finished writing the exposé that I was supposed to write. sort of. I'll probably need another hour or two until I feel okay enough about it to actually get any sleep.

unfortunately my left arm is realllly starting to hurt and I can't lift it much anymore (thanks to the covid booster I got today). hopefully I'll get it done anyway. and hopefully the pain won't be so bad that I can't sleep.

idk one of my friend's described me as her most traumatised friend and made fun of me(in a nice way dw) for saying golden boy emerald girl is one of my fave stories bc of how sweet it is. she was like no thats depressing as fuck

its about a gay man moving back home and getting a marriage of convenience with this girl who has been pining for his mom since college bc he realizes he has to take care of his mom now and needs a co-parent

anyway i always thought it was a really nice story in the same way i think nighthawks is a really happy painting i guess

realizing that maaaaybe i'm so reluctant to experience Disappointment because that feeling is heavily tied to a "traumatic" experience and i never really gave myself full space to grieve that loss / examine what it meant to me

pertaining to the appeal of sidekicks and cronies, trusted and treacherous advisors, you either get it, or you don't.

It's not about dethroning your leader, it's not about your own personal gains, it's not about some grand scheme or the bigger picture.

What it is about, is devotion. It's about manipulation, corruption, and love. It's about reliance on each other, real and created. It's about making none of the decisions, yet reaping the rewards or dealing with the consequences. It's about understanding someone, more than they understand themselves. It's about feeling unworthy, but knowing that no one else deserves them.

had a scheduling snafu that was out of my control - there was a last minute switch from in-person appointment to telehealth that i didn’t know about and no one sent me the link ahead of time, so now i’ve joined but am stuck in the “waiting room” because i don’t think my supervisor saw the notification to let me in.

i was feeling terrible and panicky about it, since i was supposed to be leading the appointment and have been working with this family for a while so they’re unofficially “my” patients. but then i remembered… my supervisors are actually reasonable and nice here? she will probably apologize profusely once she realizes what happened. unlike my last supervisor, she’s not going to scold me and insist i should have known or figured something out, and she certainly won’t tell me that everyone is mad at me for messing up. so actually i have nothing to worry about and am just chillin until my next appointment.

Dear High Commissioner,

This will be my last official communication to you as Director of the New York Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

I write at a moment of great anguish for the world, including for many of our colleagues. Once again, we are seeing a genocide unfolding before our eyes, and the Organization that we serve appears powerless to stop it. As someone who has investigated human rights in Palestine since the 1980s, lived in Gaza as a UN human rights advisor in the 1990s, and carried out several human rights missions to the country before and since, this is deeply personal to me.

I also worked in these halls through the genocides against the Tutsis, Bosnian Muslims, the Yazidi, and the Rohingya. In each case, when the dust settled on the horrors that had been perpetrated against defenseless civilian populations, it became painfully clear that we had failed in our duty to meet the imperatives of prevention of mass atrocites, of protection of the vulnerable, and of accountability for perpetrators. And so it has been with successive waves of murder and persecution against the Palestinians throughout the entire life of the UN.

High Commissioner, we are failing again.

As a human rights lawyer with more than three decades of experience in the field, I know well that the concept of genocide has often been subject to political abuse. But the current wholesale slaughter of the Palestinian people, rooted in an ethno-nationalist settler colonial ideology, in continuation of decades of their systematic persecution and purging, based entirely upon their status as Arabs, and coupled with explicit statements of intent by leaders in the Israeli government and military, leaves no room for doubt or debate. In Gaza, civilian homes, schools, churches, mosques, and medical institutions are wantonly attacked as thousands of civilians are massacred. In the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, homes are seized and reassigned based entirely on race, and violent settler pogroms are accompanied by Israeli military units. Across the land, Apartheid rules.

This is a text-book case of genocide. The European, ethno-nationalist, settler colonial project in Palestine has entered its final phase, toward the expedited destruction of the last remnants of indigenous Palestinian life in Palestine. What's more, the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe, are wholly complicit in the horrific assault. Not only are these governments refusing to meet their treaty obligations "to ensure respect" for the Geneva Conventions, but they are in fact actively arming the assault, providing economic and intelligence support, and giving political and diplomatic cover for Israel's atrocities.

In concert with this, western corporate media, increasingly captured and state-adjacent, are in open breach of Article 20 of the ICCPR, continuously dehumanizing Palestinians to facilitate the genocide, and broadcasting propaganda for war and advocacy of national, racial, or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility, and violence. US-based social media companies are suppressing the voices of human rights defenders while amplifying pro-Israel propaganda. Israel lobby online-trolls and GONGOS are harassing and smearing human rights defenders, and western universities and employers are collaborating with them to punish those who dare to speak out against the atrocities. In the wake of this genocide, there must be an accounting for these actors as well, just as there was for radio Mules Collins in Rwanda.

In such circumstances, the demands on our organization for principled and effective action are greater than ever. But we phave not met the challenge. The protective enforcement power Security Council has again been blocked by US intransigence, the SG [UN Secretary General] is under assault for the mildest of protestations, and our human rights mechanisms are under sustained slanderous attack by an organized, online impunity network.

Decades of distraction by the illusory and largely disingenuous promises of Oslo have diverted the Organization from its core duty to defend international law, international human rights, and the Charter itself. The mantra of the "two-state solution" has become an open joke in the corridors of the UN, both for its utter impossibility in fact, and for its total failure to account for the inalienable human rights of the Palestinian people. The so-called "Quartet" has become nothing more than a fig leaf for inaction and for subservience to a brutal status quo. The (US-scripted) deference to "agreements between the parties themselves" (in place of international law) was always a transparent slight-of-hand, designed to reinforce the power of Israel over the rights of the occupied and dispossessed Palestinians.

High Commissioner, I came to this Organization first in the 1980s, because I found in it a principled, norm-based institution that was squarely on the side of human rights, including in cases where the powerful US, UK, and Europe were not on our side. While my own government, its subsidiarity institutions, and much of the US media were still supporting or justifying South African apartheid, Israeli oppression, and Central American death squads, the UN was standing up for the oppressed peoples of those lands. We had international law on our side. We had human rights on our side. We had principle on our side. Our authority was rooted in our integrity. But no more.

In recent decades, key parts of the UN have surrendered to the power of the US, and to fear of the Israel Lobby, to abandon these principles, and to retreat from international law itself. We have lost a lot in this abandonment, not least our own global credibility. But the Palestinian people have sustained the biggest losses as a result of our failures. It is a stunning historic irony that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in the same year that the Nakba was perpetrated against the Palestinian people. As we commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the UDHR, we would do well to abandon the old cliché that the UDHR was born out of the atrocities that proceeded it, and to admit that it was born alongside one of the most atrocious genocides of the 20th Century, that of the destruction of Palestine. In some sense, the framers were promising human rights to everyone, except the Palestinian people. And let us remember as well, that the UN itself carries the original sin of helping to facilitate the dispossession of the Palestinian people by ratifying the European settler colonial project that seized Palestinian land and turned it over to the colonists. We have much for which to atone.

But the path to atonement is clear. We have much to learn from the principled stance taken in cities around the world in recent days, as masses of people stand up against the genocide, even at risk of beatings and arrest. Palestinians and their allies, human rights defenders of every stripe, Christian and Muslim organizations, and progressive Jewish voices saying "not in our name", are all leading the way. All we have to do is to follow them.

Yesterday, just a few blocks from here, New York's Grand Central Station was completely taken over by thousands of Jewish human rights defenders standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people and demanding an end to Israeli tyranny (many risking arrest, in the process). In doing so, they stripped away in an instant the Israeli hasbara propaganda point (and old antisemitic trope) that Israel somehow represents the Jewish people. It does not. And, as such, Israel is solely responsible for its crimes. On this point, it bears repeating, in spite of Israel lobby smears to the contrary, that criticism of Israel's human rights violations is not antisemitic, any more than criticism of Saudi violations is Islamophobic, criticism of Myanmar violations is anti-Buddhist, or criticism of Indian violations is anti-Hindu. When they seek to silence us with smears, we must raise our voice, not lower it. I trust you will agree, High Commissioner, that this is what speaking truth to power is all about.

But I also find hope in those parts of the UN that have refused to compromise the Organization's human rights principles in spite of enormous pressures to do so. Our independent special rapporteurs, commissions of enquiry, and treaty body experts, alongside most of our staff, have continued to stand up for the human rights of the Palestinian people, even as other parts of the UN (even at the highest levels) have shamefully bowed their heads to power. As the custodians of the human rights norms and standards, OHCHR. has a particular duty to defend those standards. Our job, I believe, is to make our voice heard, from the Secretary-General to the newest UN recruit, and horizontally across the wider UN system, incisting that the human rights of the Palestinian people are not up for debate, negotiation, or compromise anywhere under the blue flag.

What, then, would a UN-norm-based position look like? For what would we work if we were true to our rhetorical admonitions about human rights and equality for all, accountability for perpetrators, redress for victims, protection of the vulnerable, and empowerment for rights-holders, all under the rule of law? The answer, I believe, is simple—if we have the clarity to see beyond the propagandistic smokescreens that distort the vision of justice to which we are sworn, the courage to abandon fear and deference to powerful states, and the will to truly take up the banner of human rights and peace. To be sure, this is a long-term project and a steep climb. But we must begin now or surrender to unspeakable horror. I see ten essential points:

Legitimate action: First, we in the UN must abandon the failed (and largely disingenuous) Oslo paradigm, its illusory two-state solution, its impotent and complicit Quartet, and its subjugation of international law to the dictates of presumed political expediency. Our positions must be unapologetically based on international human rights and international law.

Clarity of Vision: We must stop the pretense that this is simply a conflict over land or religion between two warring parties and admit the reality of the situation in which a disproportionately powerful state is colonizing, persecuting, and dispossessing an indigenous population on the basis of their ethnicity.

One State based on human rights: We must support the establishment of a single, democratic, secular state in all of historic Palestine, with equal rights for Christians, Muslims, and Jews, and, therefore, the dicmantling of the deeply racist, settler-colonial project and an end to apartheid across the land.

Fighting Apartheid: We must redirect all UN efforts and resources to the struggle against apartheid, just as we did for South Africa in the 1970s, 80s, and early 90s.

Return and Compensation: We must reaffirm and insist on the right to return and full compensation for all Palestinians and their families currently living in the occupied territories, in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and in the diaspora across the globe.

Truth and Justice: We must call for a transitional justice process, making full use of decades of accumulated UN investigations, enquiries, and reports, to document the truth, and to ensure accountability for all perpetrators, redress for all victims, and remedies for documented injustices.

Protection: We must press for the deployment of a well-resourced and strongly mandated UN protection force with a sustained mandate to protect civilians from the river to the sea.

Disarmament: We must advocate for the removal and destruction of Israel's massive stockpiles of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, lest the conflict lead to the total destruction of the region and, possibly, beyond.

Mediation: We must recognize that the US and other western powers are in fact not credible mediators, but rather actual parties to the conflict who are complicit with Israel in the violation of Palestinian rights, and we must engage them as such.

Solidarity: We must open our doors (and the doors of the SG) wide to the legions of Palestinian, Israeli, Jewish, Muslim, and Christian human rights defenders who are standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine and their human rights and stop the unconstrained flow of Israel lobbyists to the offices of UN leaders, where they advocate for continued war, persecution, apartheid, and impunity, and smear our human rights defenders for their principled defense of Palestinian rights.

This will take years to achieve, and western powers will fight us every step of the way, so we must be steadfast. In the immediate term, we must work for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the longstanding siege on Gaza, stand up against the ethnic cleansing of Gaza, Jerusalem, and the West Bank (and elsewhere), document the genocidal assault in Gaza, help to bring massive humanitarian aid and reconstruction to the Palestinians, take care of our traumatized colleagues and their families, and fight like hell for a principled approach in the UN's political offices.

The UN's failure in Palestine thus far is not a reason for us to withdraw. Rather it should give us the courage to abandon the failed paradigm of the past, and fully embrace a more principled course. Let us, as OHCHR, boldly and proudly join the anti-apartheid movement that is growing all around the world, adding our logo to the banner of equality and human rights for the Palestinian people. The world is watching. We will all be accountable for where we stood at this crucial moment in history. Let us stand on the side of justice.

I just wanted to go grocery shopping and now I am 👌 this close to spiral time

she's three years younger than i am, and i put on cascada as a throwback, cackling - before your time! i've been borrowing my brother's car, and it's older than dirt, so the trunk is like, maybe permanently locked. when the sun comes through the window to frame her cheekbones, i feel like i'm 16 again. i shake when i'm kissing her, worried i won't get it right.

in 2003, my state made gay marriage legal. where she grew up, it wasn't legal until 11 years later - 10 years ago. if legal protections for gay marriage were a person, that person would be entering 5th grade. online, a white gay man calls the fight for legal marriage boring, which isn't kind of him but it is a common enough opinion.

it has only been 9 years since gay marriage was nationally official. it is already boring to have gay people in your tv. it is already boring to mention being gay - "why make it your entire personality?" i know siblings that have a larger age gap than the amount of time it's been legally protected. i recently saw a grown man record himself crying about how evil gay people are. he was begging us, red in the face - just do better.

i am absolutely ruined any time my girlfriend talks about being 27 (i know!! a child!), but we actually attended undergrad at the same time since i had taken off time to work between high school and college. while walking through the city, we drop our hands, try not to look too often at each other. the other day i went to an open mic in a basement. the headlining comedian said being lesbian isn't interesting, but i am a lesbian, if you care. as a joke, she had any lesbian raise their hand if present. i raised mine, weirdly embarrassed at being the single hand in a sea of other faces. she had everyone give me a round of applause. i felt something between pride and also throwing up.

sometimes one thing is also another thing. i keep thinking about my uncle. he died in the hospital without his husband of 35 years - they were not legally wed, so his husband could not enter. this sounds like it should be from 1950. it happened in 2007. harassment and abuse and financial hardship still follow any person who is trying to get married while disabled. marriage equality isn't really equal yet.

and i don't know that i can ever put a name to what i'm experiencing. sometimes it just feels... so odd to watch the balance. people are fundamentally uninterested in your identity, but also - like, there's a whole fucking bastion of rabid men and women who want to kill you. your friends roll their eyes you're gay we get it and that is funny but like. when you asked your father do you still love me? he just said go to your room. you haven't told your grandmother. disney is on their 390th "first" gay representation, but also cancelled owl house and censored the fuck out of gravity falls. you actively got bullied for being gay, but your advisor told you to find a different gimmick for your college essay - everyone says they're gay these days.

once while you were having a hard day you cried about the fact that the reason our story is so fucking boring to so many people is that it is so similar. that it is rare for one of us to just, like, have a good experience across the board. that our stories often have very parallel bends - the dehumanization, the trauma, the trouble with trusting again. these become rote instead of disgusting. how bad could it be if it is happening to so many people?

i kiss my girlfriend when nobody is looking. i like her jawline and how her hands splay when she's making a joke. there is nothing new about this story, sappho. i love her like opening up the sun. like folding peace between the layers of my life, a buttercream of euphoria, freckles and laughter and wonder.

my dad knows about her. i've been out to him since i was 18 - roughly four years before the supreme court would protect us. the other day he flipped down the sun visor while driving me to the eye doctor. "you need to accept that your body was made for a husband. you want to be a mother because you were made for men, not women." he wants me to date my old high school boyfriend. i gagged about it, and he shook his head. he said - "don't be so dramatic. you can get used to anything."

the other day a straight friend of mine snorted down her nose about it, accidentally echoing him - she said there are bigger problems in this world than planning a wedding.

(( Sometimes I wonder if there would ever come a point where Miranda might end up with body dysmorphia due to the relationship she has with landfolk. As in, she's often intensely and forcibly aware of how different she is, and how not only how this means she has to interact with the world differently, but in how people treat her differently as well. There are points where she sincerely feels like she can't be heard and where people won't even try to bridge the gap between her and them. Points where she can't help but blame both her body and where she comes from for reasons why she keeps feeling hurt.

This will be my last official communication to you as Director of the New York Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

I write at a moment of great anguish for the world, including for many of our colleagues. Once again, we are seeing a genocide unfolding before our eyes, and the Organization that we serve appears powerless to stop it. As someone who has investigated human rights in Palestine since the 1980s, lived in Gaza as a UN human rights advisor in the 1990s, and carried out several human rights missions to the country before and since, this is deeply personal to me.

I also worked in these halls through the genocides against the Tutsis, Bosnian Muslims, the Yazidi, and the Rohingya. In each case, when the dust settled on the horrors that had been perpetrated against defenseless civilian populations, it became painfully clear that we had failed in our duty to meet the imperatives of prevention of mass atrocites, of protection of the vulnerable, and of accountability for perpetrators. And so it has been with successive waves of murder and persecution against the Palestinians throughout the entire life of the UN.

High Commissioner, we are failing again.

As a human rights lawyer with more than three decades of experience in the field, I know well that the concept of genocide has often been subject to political abuse. But the current wholesale slaughter of the Palestinian people, rooted in an ethno-nationalist settler colonial ideology, in continuation of decades of their systematic persecution and purging, based entirely upon their status as Arabs, and coupled with explicit statements of intent by leaders in the Israeli government and military, leaves no room for doubt or debate. In Gaza, civilian homes, schools, churches, mosques, and medical institutions are wantonly attacked as thousands of civilians are massacred. In the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, homes are seized and reassigned based entirely on race, and violent settler pogroms are accompanied by Israeli military units. Across the land, Apartheid rules.

This is a textbook case of genocide. The European, ethno-nationalist, settler colonial project in Palestine has entered its final phase, toward the expedited destruction of the last remnants of indigenous Palestinian life in Palestine. What's more, the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe, are wholly complicit in the horrific assault. Not only are these governments refusing to meet their treaty obligations "to ensure respect" for the Geneva Conventions, but they are in fact actively arming the assault, providing economic and intelligence support, and giving political and diplomatic cover for Israel's atrocities.
