When you think about it, it really did not matter that Suguru walked away with his life at the end of Hidden Inventory 4. Geto Suguru as we knew him ceased to exist the moment he became the recipient of Toji’s mercy and his outlook on the futileness of Jujutsu sorcerers’ efforts against and for “monkeys like [him]." 

Yes, Toji spares him, but Suguru dies a different death in the tombs. The dialogue that precedes and succeeds their battle does nothing but pull the rug out from under Suguru’s feet. Suguru, who up until that point had dedicated his life to looking out for non-sorcerers, is called a riffraff by a non-sorcerer and someone who sorcerers deem the lowest of the low. It’s a humiliation that shakes to the core his principles and identity, something that Satoru had attempted to do three episodes earlier in good faith. 

“I would have killed you if you were a Shikigami user, but since it’s curse manipulation, there’s no telling what might happen to the cursed spirits after you die. You have the blessing of parentage. But even with that blessing, you were all beaten by a monkey like me who can't even use cursed techniques.” 

In short, Suguru dies an ideological death in the Tombs of the Star Corridor, and in Premature Death, he is reborn when Tsukumo Yuki unwittingly breathes life into his delusions.

Later on, Satoru and Suguru die two deaths in Shinjuku that are 10 years apart. Jujutsu Kaisen has done a beautiful job in their depiction of death and the many forms in which it comes.

“star-crossed lovers”

I have a thought that might have been discussed before, but Katniss and Peeta are referred to as “star-crossed lovers” by the Capitol. “Star-crossed lovers” was coined by Shakespeare in the prologue of his play Romeo and Juliet. When I think of star-crossed lovers my mind goes to the archetypal forbidden love of Romeo and Juliet, which mirrors the narrative the Capitol creates between Peeta and Katniss.

As we know, Romeo and Juliet is a text from centuries ago. We don’t know how far into the future Panem is – I always imagine at least 100 year in the future. We know very little of Panem’s history before the Dark Days, such as how long Panem has existed, but it’s safe to say at least 100 years.

I can’t find this quote for the life of me. I might have imagined it lol, but if I remember correctly, early in Mockingjay Plutarch tells Katniss about their plans for society after the rebellion. Plutarch says in “old history books” there’s something called ✨democracy✨ that they want to use. (side note: I remember Katniss saying something like “it led to where we are now” and that’s why I want to find it so badly lol)

So we know that the government of Panem are aware of the political history of the United States. But how would they know the term “star-crossed lovers”? District children are only taught their trade and Panem propaganda, so they wouldn’t know history before the Dark Days or what “star-crossed lovers” are. As for the Capitol citizens and children, they may have more freedom in education but I can’t imagine them knowing anything about North American society before Panem (they are even more susceptible to Panem propaganda), so how would they know about European literature? And we also know that Capitol citizens are more shallow and self-obsessed than they are intelligent so I can’t imagine them reading a book, much less Shakespeare.

It seems by the first Hunger Games novel all history of what existed before Panem has been destroyed except what little information the government had on the US. Sort of like the Nazis burning books and art - art, newspapers, books, monuments, and many artifacts are all gone. The progression of technology lasted, a lot Appalachian culture still exists in D12, the land somehow persisted, music/dance styles evolved, but it appears no one really is certain what American society was. And it seems that Panem exists in total isolation from other continents so it doesn’t make complete sense for Romeo and Juliet, a European text, to be passed down as oral history, thus for Panem to know what “star-crossed lovers” are.

I thought very far into this (probably more than it should be), but my only explanation is that Shakespeare is either ~timeless~ and the play still exists somehow, or maybe it’s a term that is still thrown around but no one really knows where it came from.

as I mentioned in the tags on a previous post, I've been meaning to share how I intend to handle Ari's blog as I struggle to balance real life responsibilities & writing. after much discussion with close friends & exploring important parts of myself on my own, I've decided to put Ari's blog on an EXTREMELY LOW ACTIVITY status, of which will remain so until the end of my studies. seeing as I'm pursuing an English degree, there will never be a semester when I'm not writing a bajillion things a week to satisfy course requirements & perform well academically. this, of course, takes precedence 🥺 it is my future, after all !

with all that being said, I don't want to separate myself from this space entirely, so I won't be putting Ari's blog on an indefinite hiatus. however, during the rare opportunities given to me throughout the semester which allow me to be somewhat present on here, I'd like to keep my "obligations" to roleplay as low as possible. therefore--for at least the foreseeable future--I will no longer be accepting new threads or engaging in starter calls/posting my own. if we had any threads going before, consider them dropped. I plan to make this blog what you might call ... " ask - centric " ... meaning that the only method of interaction I will be accepting for a while are asks. I will be answering prompts that are sent in to me, as well as sending the same to others. any asks that I send, however, will not be continued ( except for perhaps on the very rare occasion ). my partners are welcome to continue the ask if they would like to, but just know that it's highly unlikely I'll respond to anything that is turned into a thread. I may, however, toss the response into the treasure box tag ! 🌷🍃

I understand that this, in turn, somewhat prioritizes the relationships that Ari has already built with other muses and, in a way, limits opportunity for her to create new ones. while this restriction isn’t something I’m intentionally enforcing — rather, it is a passive effect of the current state of affairs — given the busyness of real life & all else that is equally important to me, I simply don't have the energy to juggle many things at once on here--in fact, I've been unable to do so for a long while, & I'm only now facing & accepting that fact 😔 the most meaningful & important relationships that Ari has made with other muses were primarily built by lots & lots of ooc discussion, so while I am not opposed to starting new things & building similar relationships, the chances of such happening are much higher with those that are willing to engage in thoughtful discussion about our muses despite my circumstances — plotting over interaction, to put it simply 🌱

regardless, I will still be very slow on here, and I expect I will keep a similar pace when responding to im’s as well. even though asks will be the only interactions/things I respond to on here for a while, please don’t expect me to reply to such with any haste either. I may have the time and creative energy to respond to five asks in a single day, or I may lack both for a month straight. this is, unfortunately, something unpredictable, and therefore I cannot make any promises about how often I'll be here 😔 overall, the greatest shift this blog will be experiencing is how much creative energy I can spend on it and where I decide to invest that. I don’t want to abandon this space entirely, as it is a comforting place to be, and Ari is still very much alive and well in my heart ! I want to comment on posts to support my fellow writers, participate in the occasional dash shenanigan, post random thoughts and ideas I have about Ari throughout the day, and maybe even still actually write ! however, some balancing is in order; I want to improve upon my writing through practice, but most importantly, I enjoy this hobby again 🌷🌼😭

to anyone that isn’t interested in writing with a blog that has such sporadic activity and limited methods of interaction, I completely understand. I always want to be a person that encourages others to do what’s best for them, so if parting ways because of this change is what you need to, then please do so. you will be missed, of course !🌷 but know that this decision to limit my interactions so severely is because I have the same desire in mind — I have to do what’s best for me, in a way that cares for my mental health and nurtures my creative spirit 🌻that being said, this may change. I may limit my interactions even more in the future ... I may open everything back up again ... who knows 🥺

since everything in my ask box is covered in about seven thick layers of dust, I'll also be deleting everything in there too--starting completely anew !

I am new here, but continue on the thread about Hannibal/Will, you said earlier that you uncheck HP fics from the search along with Hannibal, and now I read that "One of my favourite ships ever is Severus/Harry"- And I am fangirling a little bit and surprised because after the other ask thought you hate HP. Could you explain please then why you uncheck it?

Because JK Rowling is a transphobic pile of diarrhea personified, and while Severus/Harry is a favourite ship of mine, I can no longer stand anything HP related.

I still have a few old Severus/Harry fics bookmarked though. I can only read anything written prior to JKR being an openly transphobic piece of shit, and even then, only in very certain moods (literally once every two years). So it's just not worth including it in searches, because the rest of the time knowing she exists makes me incredibly angry and furious and disgusted.
