Pretty neat article from 2008 about the simlish music process!
Some interesting quotes:
"Rappers seem particularly adept at adapting to Simlish, and many have fun with it by adding secret messages, Kauker said. Laced among the gibberish, some singers will give a shout-out to their buddies by hiding friends' names in the lyrics. Kauker said the Maxis crew doesn't mind, as long as it's not obvious. That Easter egg tradition was started by Drew Carey, who appeared as a celebrity Sim in the House Party expansion and hid a friend's name in his Simlish dialogue."
"The experience made such an impression on [Abra] Moore that she said she'd consider recording a song in Sim-like scat on a future album. She perceives the emotional lyrics, divorced of a specific meaning, in almost a spiritual light. She's fascinated that fans try to interpret the nonsensical lyrics. It represents the essence of human nature, Moore said, to take meaning from something that has no meaning."

Darkwave duchess ABRA strikes again with a brilliant new tune. The much buzzing Atlanta based singer songwriter and producer haunts us with barbed hip hop and vaporous R&B on misty and gossamer B.R.A.T, a cheeky lo-fi jam produce by Father. B.R.A.T is a wicked track that reminds us of ABRA’s earlier tracks. Take a trip down memory lane and re-visit those spaciously atmospheric gems on Soundcloud, here.
could i possibly request a be my baby drabble where yoongi and yn meet? i know you said they met at a concert with jimin but i’m interested to see how the interaction happened
the random 'i can get you backstage' message on instagram would've gotten ignored if it wasn't for jimin. you had told him about it in passing, laughing it off as some poser trying to sleep with you. surprisingly that happened quite often, but jimin doesn't let it go. annoyed that you had no idea who had messaged you. like the name 'agust d' was supposed to mean something to you.
and because jimin was best friends with everybody, he was dragging you along to the show. no idea that agust d was one of his friends and was a rapper who was just getting his start. either way, it was saturday night, jimin seemed excited and you had nothing else to do.
so you were slipping on your favorite green dress, tying your hair in a sleek ponytail, and beating your face. all to stand in the crowd of sweaty jumpers granted you were front row but that didn't lessen the sweat around you.
it was a mix show, so this agust d character wasn't as big of a deal as he let on. he was third on, which was a pretty shitty spot, to be honest. but, fuck, did he own that third spot. coming out with his bleached blonde hair messy, looking plain in a black t-shirt and jeans, but the way that man owned the stage?
claiming he could turn anyone on, male or female and you were way too ready to learn the ins and outs of this said 'tongue technology'. so you're begging jimin to get you backstage, and he's agreeing with a roll of his eyes. an 'i told you so' fresh on his lips the moment you're making your way through the crowd.
agust d is sat on one of the couches, a taller extremely handsome man sat beside him. the man looks up at the new presence, grinning when his eyes land on jimin. he's quick on his feet to greet the two of you. even though you're standing right in front of him, agust d hasn't lifted his attention from his phone.
actually, it's not until you're speaking up does his attention shift. dark eyes finding you, marveling at the way your dress highlights your curves. he stands, pushing his hair back on his head. “hey, i'm yoongi.” offering a hand along with his rushed words, you're sending him a small that nearly knocks him off balance.
“yn...” the spark tingles your palm, all the way up your arm and to your heart the moment your hands are touching. taking over your mind with some ditsy feeling, with it comes a flush to your cheeks. “hi,” breathless, just standing there looking at him.
yoongi hasn't released your hand, suspended in the air and laced together. “i didn't think you'd come,” he remembers you and you have no idea why, because of course he'd remember the girl that he messaged just a few days ago... but your heart flutters at the small fact.
“i did. i'm impressed,” somehow, a compliment from you feels different. like your simple words were enough to validate everything he's done so far. dropping out of college on a whim to pursue this the least of his worries because you... you were impressed.
his grin is wide, showing off all of his teeth and you can't help but marvel at it. “i'm glad you like it. if you want i could show you more of my stuff,” his hand is slipping around your waist with such ease, leading you away from the growing group to a more secluded area backstage.
the instinct to push him away doesn't come, because even after just meeting him you feel comfortable with his arm around you. it's a weird feeling, but one that's too strong to just ignore.
Best of 2021. This year is only 50 because, honestly, rap really bored me this year and not a lot grabbed me outside of it. Yes, there were absolutely highlights this year, and had I not added WLR to my lists last year, I’d consider that album good enough to justify 2021 musically by itself. Nothing topped it, or really came close to it, though. We saw Carti’s most direct student, Mario Judah, who created his own WLR before Carti dropped, basically drop off the face of the earth; except for his biggest moment to date, arguably the best song to actually drop this calendar year, his unofficial remix of “Miss The Rage”, which was somehow better than the version Carti was on. Thankfully, in his stead, we got another brilliant student of Jordan Carter in Yeat; a kid who almost single-handedly carried the rest of the year.
No, my list doesn’t include RXK Nephew, because ODB and Lil Bisms are played out in 2021. Nor does it include Piano G, because between him and Lil Tjay, I never wanted to listen to rap playlists once in 2021. I also don’t need Armand Hammer in my life; I’ll just go listen to a DJ Clue mixtape if I want to hear mediocre rappers do things over late 90s grimy instrumentals
