New yarn means new needles:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically just an excuse to buy Tulip knitting needles because they make my favourite sewing needles.
The Tulips are indeed impressive. Bamboo but as smooth as birch. Super sharp, super pale, nice and long, super smooth join.
The only problem is that I thought that Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton was chainette, but it's actually Z-twist! Z-twist is supposed to be great for crochet, but the way yarn is wrapped in knitting, it undoes the Z-twist (I don't know if you can see that in the last photo), making it super splitty and therefore totally inappropriate for my super pointy new needles. I had to go super slow and careful to keep from splitting pretty much every stitch for the first several rows. I'm getting the hang of it now, but I'm going to switch to my HiyaHiyas (which I never use because they're too short for me) to see if it helps.
Comparison of all my bamboo knitting needles:
Tumblr media
Top to bottom:
2.25mm mystery fixed that I got at the Chaînon
3mm HiyaHiya interchangeable
3mm Tulip Knina Swivel fixed
3.25mm ChiaoGoo fixed (much edited with sandpaper)
3.75mm Clover Takumi interchangeable

so i was taught this spinning method at the last guild meeting i went to, by a woman who didn’t tell me what it was called (maybe clasped spinning? you hold the stick in your hand and sort of rotate it via wrapping the yarn around it while also letting the stick move, and then draft the fibre and let the built-up twist in). and it’s very cool! i used it as an excuse to try spinning some thicker fibre, and it’s not super even (i think bc it’s a pretty slow method? faster speeds seems to make for more even yarn once you have the technique down, though i’ve also heard that thinner draft is easier to keep even too)
my original plan was to ply it (maybe a fingering-weight single?) with some threadweight single of the same fibre (bfl humbug) that i had already spun. BUT when i started plying, something felt off and weird, and i realised after a few meters that the stick method spins S twist, whereas i usually spin Z twist on a drop spindle!
so i was trying to ply a fat S twist with a fine Z twist, using S twist plying. this does not work very well, for the record, and the sad fruits of my labour are pictured below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
whilst it was kind of cool to discover you can feel the fact something is not plying correctly (it was a really, really distinct and off-balance sensation, i’d recommend trying it a bit with some leftovers just for the experience), this does leave me with a conundrum. what do i do with my chunky single!!
i’ve got no other singles spun S twist, so it’ll have to be plied with itself. my other plan was to use it to try chain-plying (which i’ve not done before), but i’m worried a bit that i’ll get a very fat yarn with not much yardage. other option is obvs a centre pull ball and two-ply, but i have had Hell with centre pull balls before (admittedly with very high twist and very thin singles).
pls send help (and maybe advice in replies if anyone has strong opinions about chain plying chunky singles???)

le sserafim reaction to you doing a tiktok trend on them: le sserafim x fem! reader
authors note: i wrote this back when these trends were actually trending a few months ago. this wasn't requested but i got the idea while scrolling through tiktok and forgot to post it so here it is!
tw// VERY VERY light barely there suggestive remarks

sakura ✧˚ ༘ ⋆。♡˚
you and your members had just gotten finished with weeks of packed schedules with little rest. finally, you were finally fixing your sleeping schedule and feeling less like a zombie and more like a human being again. your members were decompressing in their own ways like yunjin who was lost in her own world strumming on her guitar in the room beside yours. chaewon and kazuha were watching some new drama in the living room and eunchae was asleep in her room. sakura busied herself with her new hobby, crocheting, while listening to a video with her headphones on. you watched your girlfriend make her new project- a small bag made of mesh-like stitches. her brows furrowed in concentration as she tried to count her stitches in her head so not to disturb you sitting silently across from her. she assumed you were reading a new book from your online library but you were actually just watching tiktoks. after seven chapters of your novel you'd lost interest and switched to something more entertaining. you'd stumbled onto a trend of girls asking their boyfriends to hand them an orange, then asking if they'd peel it for them to see the reaction. with nothing else to do you decided to give it a try:
"kkura?" you poked your girlfriend with your socked foot and she answered without looking up from her crocheting, "yes?" you put your phone in your lap and sighed, "i want a clementine, do you know if we have any?" sakura hummed and looked up, "there's some in the kitchen inside of the refrigerator in the bottom left drawer. i just got them for you yesterday on my way home." you smiled at the mention because you didn't ask her to buy them for you yesterday, she just did it because she thought you'd enjoy them. you clasped a clip back onto one of the twists that fell into your face before you asked sweetly, "can you please get it?" without hesitation sakura nodded and said while still focusing on the hook and yarn in her hand, "gimmie one second." when she finished her row she went to get your clementine and returned with two and a paper towel.
your girlfriend sat back down and began peeling the clementines for you without you having to ask. she even pulled the little stringy parts that you hated most off and threw them away with the peels. when she handed you back the peeled fruits you asked, "why did you peel them for me?" sakura answered easily, "you don't like how the peels gets stuck under your nails so i did it. enjoy." you leaned over and kissed her cheek, "thank you, kkura." she pressed a kiss to your temple, "of course my love."
chaewon ✧˚ ༘ ⋆。♡˚
despite being a part of gen z and being called one of the best gen z idols by fans, you were underqualified in one area: social media. you didn't even remember to check your texts let alone what was trending across different apps. the only reason you knew if something was on trend or not was because of fans or your friends teaching you. however, after being teased about it you promised yourself that you'd keep up a little more just for fun. plus, your bosses suggested it'd be good for fan service and engagement which was always a good thing. but, what wasn't a good thing was that little promise to keep up with trends resulted in you now being 'chronically online' according to yunjin. you scrolled through your for you page and watched yet another video of a woman asking her partner, "name a woman." after going down a rabbit hole of the same type of video you decided to try it out on your own girlfriend.
"baby." you shook chaewon lightly as she laid in your arms with her cheek pressed against your bare shoulder. she answered sleepily, "hmmm?" you grinned as you told her, "name a woman."
chaewon pulled away from you slightly and asked, "what do you mean?" you responded plainly, "name a woman." your girlfriend toyed with one of your box braids and asked once more in confusion, "any woman?" you clarified, "any woman." she then replied without a second thought, "han sohee." you let out a huff and tried again, "name a different woman." chaewon answered again with a different name, "bada lee." you could almost hear the smile in her voice that time and you whined, "you were supposed to say my name!" your girlfriend pulled away from you fully and told you, "you said 'name a woman' not 'name my woman'. there's a difference, you're mine."
yunjin ✧˚ ༘ ⋆。♡˚
you were no stranger to the song water by tyla or the dance challenge that went along with it. one evening while you were on a weverse live you'd played the song after seeing people comment the title. you sang along to it and mentioned with a smirk, "i want to perform this on a stage so bad guys. i learned the dance and everything but i don't know if i'd ever be able to show you. ever since you'd randomly danced to WAP during a live a year ago, you've been monitored more than your other members. but after fans demanded for days on end you were finally allowed to post your water challenge on tiktok.
"i dunno i think you need to do it again." yunjin sat in front of you with her back against the mirror in the dance practice room. your girlfriend was acting as your camerawoman for your tiktok challenge, and she had you redo the dance nearly 15 times now. you taught her the dance earlier and she was doing it a little too well yet she insisted only you be in the video. she eyed you up and down with her gaze lingering on your rolled up tank top and sweatpants that sat low on your hips. you sighed and did the dance again along to the music before asking her, "was that one better? lemme see-" you reached for her phone and she said, "oh i wasn't recording that." your eyes widened and you asked, "wha- why not?! were you recording any of them?" yunjin shook her head and you smacked her arm, "yunjin! you had one job!" your girlfriend defended herself, "what? you can't expect me to remember what i'm supposed to do if you're shaking all that in my face." she wrapped her arms around your waist and kissed your neck but you pulled away.
you told her, "you can have me later okay? now focus!" just as you were pulling away she looped her fingers around one of the strings of beads that sat on your hips. yunjin tied a hoodie around your torso and said, "much better. now i can focus." you rolled your eyes and told her, "you're no better than a man." she waved you off, "yeah okay. just do your little dance...i'm ready now i swear."
kazuha ✧˚ ༘ ⋆。♡˚
you knew that yunjin created a monster when she introduced your members to chipotle and not even a full day later kazuha was saying she missed it. every time she looked back through her camera roll for pictures to post she was sending her chipotle photo to the group chat saying she wanted it again. you found it hilarious because all it took was one bowl and she was already whining about how korea needed to get hip to the fast food chain.
one night after scrolling through your tiktok feed you saw a man recreate chipotle at home for his wife so you thought you'd try it for kazuha. you couldn't find all of the exact recipes but you came pretty close despite the fact that cilantro just doesn't really exist in korea. but knowing your girlfriend, she'd appreciate anything that you gave her so it was fine.
"zuha! baby come here i have something for you." you called kazuha to the kitchen where you had all of the food laid out in containers on the table. you handed her a bowl and said, "i made you chipotle." kazuha's eyes lit up and she nearly jumped over the table to tackle you into a hug. she clapped her hands together and you stood on the other side of the table to serve her your home version of chipotle. she was more than happy to post about it on weverse, showing the meal off to everyone especially knowing that her members weren't around to steal any off her plate.

Back in 2007 I went to the webs anniversary tent sale. I bought a bag or alpaca. I cleaned a little by hand and made a Barbie skirt.
Tumblr media
Then in 2008, when I was pregnant, I sent the whole thing off to be commercially processed. A few months after I had my third kid I got a couple large boxes back. I spun that and made some alpaca slippers for my husband (very warm but shed a lot).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I spun the rest of the fiber by the summer of 2015, and then it rested. I pulled the skeins out this year and started a sweater. The yarn had two different twists (about half was S and half was Z), so I held one of each together and knit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started march 1 and finished it may 30. Many weeks in there knitting time was shortened to make room for other projects. I also realized that finishing a project with this fiber after all these years stirred up some feelings and sometimes I had to move a bit slowly through the sweater decisions because of that. Each step took some thought before I could move on. It felt so good to finish! It then took a few days to dry after a good washing.
Tumblr media
The pattern is called Miranda - and I absolutely love the pocket. It’s not the best time of year to try on a 100% alpaca sweater, but it worked - and now I have another reason to be excited for fall!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I have a little yarn left, and I’ve already incorporated it into my current scrap project!

So random question, bracelet plying is like my favorite way to ply but I’m interested in making some wool into a 4ply
I was thinking I’d just go through the bracelet plying process twice (if that makes sense), and I think I’ve seen you mention you’ve done that before?
I just wanted to ask about the twist direction.
Like, obviously if I do the singles in an S-Twist then I’ll ply in a Z-Twist. But if I ply it again, would I still do a Z-Twist? Or would I go back to an S-Twist? I feel like doing Z a second time would just get it over twisted super quickly but idk.
Just wondering, you’re one of the only people who I can remember seeing do that so I thought I’d ask (I’m always delighted by your posts)
Have a nice day, hope you’re doing well!
(Also I love cocks and balls and such)
Hi ! I have done that a fair few times yeah :) it works very well to make a 4 ply. You can make a cabled 4 ply by making a bracelet and plying it, then making the resulting yarn into another bracelet and plying it again.
Or you can make a laid 4 ply (the actual term is probably traditional 4 ply ? Dont remember; i always call it laid) by winding one bracelet and then (without plying) taking both ends and winding those into a new bracelet that is made of 4 plies, and then plying that.
Re: your question, each time you ply you will want to change the ply direction. So, your singles might be spun Z, then 2 plied S, then 4 plied Z. Just alternate each time.
And thank you ! :D

The spinners Book of yarn designs by Sarah Anderson, book review:
Tumblr media
First things first: I SO EFFING LOVE THIS BOOK. BUY IT!!!
Like most books it starts with a nice and tidy chapter overview:
Tumblr media
The introduction is just a bit of "what is this book for" a bit of the spinner history of Ms. Anderson, where she got all the ideas and so on.
Chapter 1, Spinning basics
is self-explanatory,
It talks about twist, and controll samples the basics of fiber prepping for spinning (carding , combing, working with dyed fiber) how to choose, what to look for, woolen vs worsted. For a book that is not ment to teach you spinning it's surprisingly detailed (not complaining there is always something to learn in the basics, or to remember)
Chapter 2, singles for plying
How to spin a good single, but So. Much. More!
How to spin a good single, what makes a single good, how thick/thin. Difference between wheels and handspindles. Tips and tricks to spin thin singles on a wheel. AND plying! Like, what kind of plying is out there (chain, bracelet, center pull ball how to trouble shoot etc), how do they behave what to ply together (2ply vs 3ply, and the difference they make in a knitted sample, trouble Shooting)
Chapter 3, stand-alone single
First a general information on how to deal with the different behaving anergy and on felting (some singles need to be felted before using them, but how do I do that)
Peppers through (in ALL chapters) are examples on the yarn and how it looks used (some are knitted, some crocheted and some weaved.)
For every yarn there is a detailed explanation on how to spin them what to look out for and detailed pictures to show the process, that help recreating the yarn
Also look at this cool thing?!?!? Just made with the enegery of the twist! It's plainly knitted, no pattern magic just spinning magic!!!
Tumblr media
She also wrote out a very detailed recipe for "sizing" energized yarn. So it stays in form when stored, and after using it and washing the fabric all the energy comes back and makes some unbelievable cool effect (collapsed weave my beloved) how utterly cursed, how utterly beautiful, i want 20
Tumblr media
Chapter 4 spiral yarn
In the beginning of this chapter, you have: how the tension shapes the yarn (more tension on the thin single, moderate tension on both, more tension in the fat single) general info on the finished yarn ( it is delicate, and should be used in projects according) also here we have a wonderful example in how the instructions are build
Tumblr media
Name of the yarn with a bit of info, the singles you'll need to built it and the direction it is spun and plied (always telling you what fiber got used). And beautiful depiction of yarn and knitting(crocheting/weaving) with the yarn.
In this chapter she also teaches you how to incorporate beads into your yarn in different ways.
Chapter 5, opposing plies
What happens, if instead of 2 S spuns singles plied in Z, you take on S and one Z spun single to ply??? Well, at least 6 different beautiful yarns!
Also one amazing theme through this book, are Ms. Andersons Sock experiments. She takes the same fiber base, spins and plys one sock in basic ply and one in a different way. And then she wears them until the first hole appears to see what yarn construction is more sturdy. Absolutely amazing
Tumblr media
Chapter 6, Bouclés
We all know Bouclés, i believe. But who spun them before?
The chapter starts with basic boucle technique 1O1 and takes you on a Wilde ride.
You guys have seen Bouclé in weaving??? I'm madly in love with it
She takes you throu basic bouclé like you know it. Showed differences between fibers, color possiblitys and "spiral bouclé" mixing bouclé with the spiral technique from chapter 4. Which is so insanely beautiful!
It finishes with: shrink bouclé. What happens if you ply a felting single with a not felting single? Spoiler: very cool stuff
Chapter 7, cable yarns
(how beautiful is this combination of color and construction??)
Tumblr media
Two 2plys plyed together. Lots of things that could go wrong but if they go right you get a yarn that looks like a chain. How cool is that??? (Extremely) we get a lot of amazing yarns not limited to basic, beaded and dyed. Absolut Chefs kiss 👌
Chapter 8, crepe yarns
Looking forward to these, because I know exactly what fiber to use!
How to describe crepe yarn? That is DIFFICULT, because even if the construction is the same in every yarn, the use of singles and tension makes them absolute unrecognizable! If you get handed two crepe yarns you couldn't tell on the first glance! How is this the same construction method?!?!?
Tumblr media
Same build as the other chapters. I want to live in this book. in total 7 crepe yarns that are full of love.
Chapter 9, core yarn
Do you remember the 90' where wrapping colorfully thread around your hair was the shit™?
Yeah, that! But better, because it's yarn! 12 different ways of coils are named in this chapter.
After that follows...
Soft core (this is not an asthetic, well maybe it is, but not in this chapter)
Your basic core spun yarn, in 3 different variations. Explained in detail. What's more to say?
Chapter 10, novelty yarn
Let's combine alle the cool things we learned in previous chapters and add little extras!
You meet an old acquaintance: the knop yarn that is followed by 7 different ways of making pigtail yarn. And then we have: beehives, cocoons, 3 ways of altering the cocoons (+one beaded inspiration) and something that makes my fingers itch with need for colorfull locks: tailspun!
Imagine this:
Tumblr media
But SO colorfull!
The last yarn we get to know is "squiggle" a yarn with hiccups (or that giggles) either way it's adorable and very cute!
In the End we have a: glossary, Bibliography 👀, some acknowledgments, an index and some Bock recs.
On the VERY end there is a paper pocket with cards for all the yarns?!?!? HELLOOOO?!?!?
Tumblr media
General opinion:
I LOVE this book it is the best book on spinning i have read so far detailed without being overwhelming. Also it is impossible to not notice how much care and love were involved. This is truly a book from a spinner to other spinners.
General information on the yarns and techniques are sprinkled between (like the sock experiment and how to work beads into the yarn)
It is well built, the chapters and everything is well sorted.
All in all, a loveletter to yarn.
Cons: i can't touch the samples. And that is TERRIBLE. Also i want to spinn all the yarns right now in an instant, but i don't have enough fiber, money, or time. A crime!!! Just Mean!!!
My tip: BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE IT!!!
2023 we'll have a spin along to this book. More information will be on this blog shortly:

aaaaaaand plied. koi pond gradient fin. (still day nine)
lonk and polwarth wool, from a kickstarter and blue moon fiber arts, respectively. spun clockwise (s-twist) and plied counterclockwise (z-twist), as all my yarns are. chain-plied without concern for lumps.
no plans for it whatsoever. maybe a tablecloth weft or big-assed knit.
this tour is really turning out to be a "spin your stash" challenge for me. I may work through my entire drawer of commercially dyed stuff at this pace. so then I'll process some raw fleece and take advantage of this sunshine to dry some big batches...good times!

-
there's not any particular rules to this - write something for each one, draw them, write a fic using one word for each letter at least once, etc
if anyone does use this please tag me/send it to me so i can see what you create :3

nalbinding my second pair of socks in parallel rather than in sequence - one clockwise, one widdershins. trading between the two means that i have a more clear perspective on the differences between the approaches than i did when i was working the booties, which i did in sequence.
i'm noting that the widdershins sock has advantages for me as a lefty - it means that the needle-path is coming in from the left, which is grand for me because that's where i hold my needle. working the clockwise sock, i'm always shifting my grip, flipping the sock upside down, rightside up, upside down, sideways, etc, as it's more difficult to get the needle from where it is to where it needs to be. whereas the widdershins sock i can just bam bam bam flow through the completion of one stitch into another.
BUT the widdershins sock has one notable disadvantage, which is that the rotation of the stitches, operated on Z-ply yarn, twists the yarn tighter and tighter in on itself, making the yarn thinner, stiffer, and less able to fill the gaps in the stitches. even though the tension on these two socks is very comparable, the widdershins sock has visible holes while the clockwise sock doesn't. decidedly not my fave.
thankfully, the solution to this is simple! [stage note: i am standing in front of a pepe silvia board in full clown costume and makeup, gesturing with a wooden pointer as i speak] all i need to do is teach myself how to nalbind from the reverse side, and then i can flip my clockwise sock inside out to become a widdershins sock, thereby presenting the most advantageous angle of attack while still working the yarn S-directionally! i am so smart and this is NOT hubris and everything here is completely comprehensible

Red yarn & thumbtacks
I’ve been thinking a totally normal amount about the LCARS graphics in the closing credits of this season of Picard, and I haven’t jumped to a single unhinged conclusion or ludicrous conspiracy theory.
I’ve got several.
Theory #1: Jack Crusher is a clone of the Jack Crusher
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s make this storyline even stupider, shall we? There’s a ton of DNA-related imagery throughout, and it’s directly associated with Ed Speleers’s name—just like Seven of Nine’s “performance evaluation” appears when Jeri Ryan’s credit does.
Ridiculous? Yes. Possibly even more offensive than Bev just hiding a kid from Jean-Luc this whole time? Also yes. But on a show that’s never met an outlandish plot twist it didn’t passionately embrace, “he’s definitely their naturally-conceived child and she never told Jean-Luc about him” feels like it can’t be the whole story. Not this early.
Tumblr media
Also? This is the melody to “Pop Goes the Weasel,” and in a cadence that evokes old mechanical wind-up music toys. Like you might find in, for example… a jack-in-the-box. A CLONE BOX. *drops mic*
Theory #2: Captain Shaw was at Wolf 359
Tumblr media
*picks mic back up*
The USS Constance (NCC-10387; a Constellation-class like the Stargazer) was lost in action under redacted circumstances, on a stardate right at the beginning of TNG Season 4.
I think Liam Shaw was a junior officer on the Constance when Locutus destroyed it, he got PTSD that almost ruined his career (per Vadic’s taunting about his psych profile), and that’s why he’s got a chip on his shoulder about ex-Borg and an aversion to wham-bang escapades.
Theory #3: The ultimate target will be the Fleet Museum
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is truly irreplaceable to Starfleet? Not to sound callous, but you can always replicate more materiel, build more starships, recruit more adrenaline junkies. From an evil antagonist’s point of view, blowing up recruitment centres or even entire starbases is just costing Starfleet resources. How can you subject a post-scarcity society to meaningful loss? Like, psychologically?
Well, you can destroy its history. They can commission a Voyager-A and -B, but they can’t replace the actual ship that went to the Delta Quadrant and back. They can make new Enterprises all the way down to -Z, but they won’t be the same NCC-1701-A that went to the centre of the galaxy and killed god. The USS Excelsior is… also there. And so on.
I’m guessing that Moriarty or Sela or the insects from “Conspiracy” or whoever’s actually pulling the strings here is going to attempt an existential blow to the entire Federation by wiping out the legacy (!) of its most historic surviving starships.
Tumblr media
Theory #4: We’re already in Moriarty’s holo-trap
What if Picard and Riker’s conversation in 10 Forward in the very first episode of this season was actually in a holodeck?
What if this entire season so far has been inside a holodeck?
What if everything since TNG Season 6 has been inside a holodeck???
Miscellaneous bullshit:
Tumblr media
I don’t recognize this alien script, and couldn’t find anything even close on Memory Alpha. Those are the little fighters deployed from the Shrike, though, right? So maybe it’s that clicky language Vadic’s crew speak. Weird that it’s integrated right into the LCARS like that…
Tumblr media
Uhhhhhhh, Garth Nix crossover?
Tumblr media
Yeahhhh, okay, I’ve got nothing.

Good morning, everyone, I am going to be an asshole about spinning advice:
So, look. If someone who only knits and/or crochets says “Oh, your yarn is splitting, it’s because of the twist, work from the other end of the ball!” I can kind of hand wave it away because they’ve probably heard that advice from someone else who means well and tried it and had some luck, and they just don’t have enough knowledge about yarn to know that ~whether your yarn is S or Z twist, that is the twist it has, it will not magically reverse by working from the other end~ which isn’t a big deal. I didn’t know much about the structure of yarn until I got into spinning (that is actually why I wanted to learn spinning! So that I could understand all the different kinds of yarns out there!), so I don’t think anyone passing on Conventional Wisdom is a bad actor or anything.
Now, when a spinning educator says that the twist in your top is causing drafting issues, so just flip that sucker around and magically it will be easier to draft... I am giving them Major Side Eye.

also glad i ended up deciding on this after the 6.1 came out and not while they were still selling the 6.0. not that they're Extremely different, but the 6.1 just seems to have several little refinements and quality of life features that sound very nice (dedicated z/s twist switch, easier to read lettering, better stabilized flyer, cleaner bobbin design, etc)
also on the 6.1 the orifice hook isn't stored in a position where it might get caught by a loop of yarn coming off the flyer & flung across the room at over 1000 rpm. which seems, you know, pretty cool

Hi! I totally understand if you don't know the answer, but I was wondering about ply/twist and crochet. Do you know if crocheting left-handed has an effect on what twist of yarn is better to use, since it's basically mirrored from right handed crochet? I looked thru an article you shared on Yarnsub but it had a lot more information on knitting and just kind of blanket (hehe) stated "Crochet and S twist are sworn rivals"
In the meantime I will look more closely next time I'm crocheting and try to see if the yarn is fighting me
Hi ! So, take the following answer with a good handful of salt, as I don't crochet left handed, but, yes, I'm pretty sure that left handed crochet will add S twist (meaning that in a left handed crocheter's case, crochet and Z twist would be sworn rivals).
I looked up a tutorial and gave it a shot myself--right handed crochet has you wrapping the yarn in the opposite direction of left handed crochet, which as far as I can tell, is the factor that determines in what direction twist is added.
(I wouldn't necessarily take my word for it, because maybe I did it wrong, but you can check for yourself pretty easily just by starting a chain using two strands of yarn held together. This is a lot easier than trying to gauge by eye whether twist has been added or removed to a single strand of yarn--you can watch the two strands start to twist together as you chain. Once you've got a definite twist direction, pinch both ends of your yarns a few inches apart, add more twist in the same direction just by rolling the yarn in your fingertips, and then you ought to be able to easily gauge whether it is S or Z twist. Or if you're like me, you may have to repeat the experiment multiple times because you keep forgetting the direction that s and z are supposed to face.)

TFO means Two-for-One twisters, usually available for variety of large textile machines. Pavan TFO Parts are industry leaders and one of the best reputed manufacturer and supplier of high quality textile machine spare parts and components for the industry.
We manufacture replacement parts for Volkmann and Star Volkmann TFO machines. Volkmann TFO machine parts involve all types of materials like Steel, Nylon, Bakelite, ABS, Delrin, PU, Nylon with GF, steel, and aluminum castings. Volkmann TFO parts with Nylon and ABS Delrin are Multiple tension devices, flyers, adopters, and cover discs. Volkmann TFO parts made of PU are Red Bushing and intermediate pillow bearing.  Belt guide rollers of Volkmann TFO parts of the 3rd and 4th generation are made of Bakelite and 6th generation rollers are made of Nylon glass-filled material. With spindles, pots, gears, and sprockets, the structure of the machine is Steel.
Critical parts of Volkmann TFO machines like spindles, Bolsters, and Protection pots are manufactured by us. In 3rd and 4th generation Volkmann TFO machines, bolsters mean spindle lower part which was separate now in 5th and 6th gen machines bolsters are inbuilt and are with ball bearings. We manufacture Spindles of all generation for Volkmann TFO machines and are dynamically balanced and supplied. With this the Volkmann TFO machine runs with no vibration and a higher speed can be achieved.
We also manufacture the most essential part, the capsule of the Volkmann TFO machine. Capsules of all types like Mushroom, Plane, Ball Mushroom, and top and bottom separate capsules are manufactured in-house.
Pre-take-up disks with Chrome plating, Plasma coating with 24 and 31 teeth, and ball type are also made in-house. Cradle assembly of star and Volkmann TFO machines are also manufactured of aluminum material and Sheet metal material. Cradle assembly of 3rd Generation, overhanging cradle, 5th and 6th gen sheet metal cradles of all generations are manufactured at our plant.
In the gearbox section of the Volkmann TFO Machine, we manufacture all types of change gears, Sprockets, Timer gears, change gear tensioning assemblies, and change gear stud assemblies. We manufacture the most critical part S and Z assembly. Also, we manufacture timer belt tension pulleys in graded aluminum.
In Volkmann TFO machines parallel winded yarn is a feed package and it gets twisted and the product is knotless yarn and wounded on the take-up package. The yarn used may be Cotton, Polyester, Viscose, Wool, or any blend. The yarn twisted is highly abrasive, and because of this many of the parts get worn out. We manufacture the parts of the Volkmann TFO machine of better quality and the material used is on par with the OEM to take care of this abrasiveness of yarn.
There are many sub-sections in the Volkmann TFO machine. Gearbox section, motor section, spindle section, cradle section, stop motion section, braking system.
In a manually operated Volkman TFO machine all the sections are manually operated and need more skilled labor per machine. In a new generation machine, all the sections are operated through electronics, Pneumatics, and hydraulics, hence need not require much skilled labor. We manufacture Pneumatic valves for yarn piecing and spindle braking. We also manufacture pneumatic valves for cradle lifting and the stop motion section of the Volkmann TFO machine. In the third and fourth generation Volkmann TFO machines Power consumption was more, there was a 50 HP electric motor for 144 spindle machines. Now for the 5th and 6th gen machines, only a 40HP motor is used for 200 spindle machines. In 5th and 6th generation machines weight of the spindle is drastically reduced, most of the parts are of plastic and sheet metal.
With this power consumption is controlled and drastically reduced. We manufacture all such delicate parts of the Volkmann machine adding to power consumption advantage. We at Pavan TFO Parts, supply Volkman TFO Parts to a massive customer base in India, backed by a team of highly engaged professionals cater to wide applications and customized as per the need from the clients
