Family of Distinguished People.
So like what if, the Fenton family is just a family full of heroes, villains, and vigilantes. like.. just imagine a long line of people that had or has contributed to the world somehow. Like the Fenton parents as Supervillains, Jazz as a Vigilante, Danny as Hero. Dani just decides to travel not too interested, but does help with her family if needed, Dan does the same thing.
BUT WHAT IF joker is actually a close relative of the Fenton Family (ex. Uncle, Cousin,Family Friend) and like he's just there all happy with his (found)family during family reunions, birthdays and shit.
And the batfam are just like so confused and stressed to why the joker goes missing once a month.
While Joker is literally having a game of Monopoly with the elementary kids at amity park (the kids couldn't bother, they've saw scarier things they handled scarier things) cue Joker giving the kids a hundred dollars because he lost.
This is just one of my what if prompts, that i got locked up in a vault. Might delete this later who knows.

Oh... Oh No(TM) :Dc
You know how occasionally? Ra's has to get dunked to rehydrate in that good, good Youth Soup? And probably comes out looking Damningly Fine AF, as a chisled warrior man in his late to mid 20s?
........okay, so HEAR ME OUT.....
You ever date a Hot Passionate Bad Boy, that you KNOW is probably bad for you? Because he is REALLY charismatic? Remembers all the important dates and details. Has Hot Blooded roof top sword fights and dramatic cliff side brawls, with you? Talks like the most Dramatic! Nerd! You have? Ever Heard! *mysterious musical sting by full orchestra*
Swishy cape?
VERY Impressive muscles.
But so High Drama that even you, "Commit To The Bit" Danny, of the Good and Noble House "WHY IS EVERYTHING ON FIRE!?" Fenton, find him... occasionally A Bit Much(tm)?
Just? A REALLY Bad Idea in attractively form fighting luxury wear.
You get too fight ninjas.
..........Danny's not SAYING he gave into his worst Dumbass Thirst Impulses... but, uhhh, he's also? Not NOT saying it?
And it's becoming a problem.
Cause apparently their whole family is CLINGLY (Bruce, in the background of the call: No. REALLY? You DONT SAY?) when they decide they've found The One. And he was unaware of the Murder Cult. Yes! He KNOWS! Should have asked where the ninjas came from! But in his defense...
Hot man, no shirt-y, Danny brain go Dumb and Drools.
He had a fancy sword and wanted to fight, Jazz.
Danny was FLUSTERED!
He refuses to be Mrs. Cult Leader, Jazz! You dealt with hot bad boy Exs! What does he do!?
And just? Jazz? So... so tired. Dear lord, she thought Dani was bad. But no. No Dani came by her... EVERYTHING, honestly, didn't she? It's genetic. It has to be. Danny what the FUCK? When she said "you should get out more and see the workd" this is NOT WHAT SHE MEANT!
Danny? Is not really feeling the helpful vibes here, Jazz. Fine. He'll hunt down Talia. She'll help him! Surely SHE won't want him to be her new step-dad! Hmmmph! *click*
And THAT! Is how the Bats meet their new Son/Brother-in-Law, Danny. Jazz's baby brother.

Best idea I've ever fucking heared.
[video ID: A tiktok with video footage of various trains and mellow music in the background a (male-sounding) voiceover and white text on the video say: "if the train doesn't make a profit, why should we keep it??" The voiceover continiues: "The train isn't making money, I don't see why we need to keep it" Oh I think you're right! let's get rid of the other thing that doesn't make any profit at all
During the last words the background fades from footage of trains to photos of cars on a highway with a spreadsheet of highway spending sorted by US state rolling over the screen - it's too fast to read anything but you can see that the numbers are high. It blends in white text that reads: Highways Don't make Profit Either
The voiceover continiues: guess we have to get rid of them! *the music changes to dramatic orchestra while the voiceover guy laughs like a cartoon villan*
New photos of large highways show up in increasing frequency in tune with the speed of the music. White text pops up that reads: Fund the Goddam trains instead of this bullshit
With the text still on screen the background fades to a video of a tire landfill with a huge dark cloud of smoke coming it.
A tiktok outro crediting @alanthefisher

Dream a Little Dream of Me - IV
Tumblr media
Celestia has a cruel sense of humor. He's always known this, ever since his days as a student. But a soulmate? Really? Dottore/Female Reader Soulmate AU. Expect lore speculation, interpretations, etc. Available on AO3 as well. A/N: Thank you all so, so much for your kudos, comments, and most importantly, your patience. I'm working on an outline and while I have the next few chapters paced out, and the general direction and plot beats, I'm missing a middle except for vague ideas. This fic's length is now questionable; I say 15 chapters but who knows at this point! For the second scene, I highly recommend listening to Apocalyptica's 'Fields of Verdun', which was my main source of inspiration.
The concert hall was filled, as Dottore expected it to be.  Despite this performance being arranged between the Akademiya and Court of Fontaine as a sign of diplomatic goodwill, it was open to the student body, many of whom were in need of a break.
He couldn’t relate.  His time here was spent with every waking moment being used to its fullest (and making more hours when others went to sleep).  A thing like this was a waste of time.
It still was.  If not for you, he wouldn’t have even bothered to attend himself.
He should be sitting with the Sages.  That was how these things went, after all.  Guests were given as much privilege and honor as the leaders.  Standing at the back meant easy access to the exit.  Dottore could depart and send the clone in his place to whatever afterparty the Sages had arranged for those involved in discussions and no one would be the wiser.
Which meant he was free to keep his eyes on you.
Soulmates were bonds for life.  He’d lived long enough to be without one.  When he was a student, he wondered why he had fitful nights of darkness while others received lucid dreams not driven by meditation and incense, but the stars above, moments with a yet unseen friend or partner.
Your arrival was a punch to the gut.  Why then?  Why you ?
He would outlive you.  There was little point in this.  He would shoulder the stupidity of Celestia and at least put a Vision to good use.
But people were nothing but disappointments.
He had no use for you .
Except for a long-standing curiosity on what would happen if…
The music swelled and Dottore’s thoughts faded as he gazed out at the crowd, the inside of his mask connected to his Akasha terminal.  He saw names and data laid over the world around him, analyses running in the background, and a tiny terminal to access his segment through a secure immediate connection.
He recalled the way your fingers felt in the dream, calloused fingers in a different pattern on each hand, the tiny bump from holding a pen too often.  Thicker stringers, a Fontaine instrument…
His gaze looked out across the large strings section until the terminal caught a glimpse of your face, a dead-match for the file he pulled up earlier that day.
His pulse fluttered at the way your eyes closed and head tilted, trusting your mind and fingers to remember the notes and follow the flow of music.  You blended into the rest of the orchestra and yet if he listened hard enough, he could pick your playing out with ease; skilled, passionate, but without a need for the dramatic.  Talent, tempered by a willingness and consideration for the bigger picture.  How pragmatic.
Dottore’s Akasha caught sight of your gaze when the audience applauded and you dared to look up, rather than out. He frowned, his mouth going dry at the way your eyes caught the stage lights.
Were you searching for someone?
Him?
He had sent his segment out earlier as a test run, in the event he would have to be present for the Sage’s inane ramblings about their dissatisfaction with the current Archon and what they could do about it.  Dottore recalled a moment, not unlike this one, on Treasures Street, captured in the segment’s knowledge capsule.
Perhaps you, too, were on the lookout and were piecing elements together.
___________________
He was surprised to find that, instead of heading out with everyone else, you came back to the empty performance hall.
You ran off to a quiet food stall and then ate on the way back, as if afraid to waste too much time.  You didn’t let yourself get distracted, your free hand tapping out a rhythm that only made sense to you.
Dottore found his way through the darkened halls.  Originally, he considered his previous location but thought better of it.  He wanted a closer look at you.  Not just through his Akasha’s ability to hone in on detail.  Some specimens should be observed, after all; analysis and inspection could, and would, come later.
He settled for a box seat, angled with a view of the stage but out of your line of sight.  He had a brilliant view over your shoulder and your intentions for returning to the stage became quite clear as soon as you pulled out a pencil and a few stray pages of sheet music.
Ah.
So, you abandoned dinner plans for a moment of peace with your own creations.  Committed to your craft, then.  He respected that well enough.  One point to you.
Not that it mattered for much longer.
He listened to you play what was already in place, the tempo slow to start, warm and heavy notes.  It gave way to higher notes, a little quicker, and then from there, well…
A mess, really.  The tempo picked up immediately and he realized that must have been what you were tapping against your leg the whole way back.  Strings screeched.  Sometimes you stopped and started again.  Slowed down just enough to mutter the notes to yourself.  The bow would dangle loosely in one hand as you maneuvered around the large instrument to scribble, erase, and scribble again.
If he wanted something this boring, he would have gone to the Sages’ dinner party.
What a waste this was.
His soulmate, nothing more than someone who lived by the rules of emotion.  He didn’t need to watch you compose to know that.  His memories and dreams were filled with the way you spoke of the world around you, somehow still bright-eyed about the world despite knowing the mess of your shared home nation.  Fontaine was a place for dreamers, if you could ever rise above the smoke and smog, but they did not tolerate those who dared defy their status quo or Archon.
Playing in the nation’s orchestra was, no doubt, an honor, but it didn’t have room for someone with their own plans and ambitions.
Ambitions…surely…
Before his thought could continue, you picked up your bow and began again, steadier and more confident this time.  You played through past the previous stumbling blocks, tapping your foot to keep the rhythm, and he could hear that there might be more of a rock and roll flair, or that there could be with a different beat.  It did not feel classical in origin, even if the theory behind it was.  Every note was a keen blade that found its target, his chest aching ever so slightly in response to the breakdown, slow and somber.  It reminded him of the sounds that came from Ruin Guards too damaged beyond repair or when their core was pulled from its socket…
How dare you.
He refined himself to be better than this.  Than to feel this again.
Dottore gripped the edge of the box’s balcony, no longer caring if you noticed him at this point.  The leather of his gloves squeaked and he was certain his knuckles were bone-white beneath the fabric.
His Omega segment was handling his other duties without issue, he noted.  A genius move, in the end, to do this himself.  He was in no state to handle malfunctions or other petty details now that he was here.  He wanted to kill you as much as he wanted to hear the rest of the composition, intrigued by the notion you’d managed to elicit something from him.  Dottore found himself wanting nothing more than to feel exactly what you were capable of with nothing but your own mind and the right instrument.
And that was precisely why this, the fated bond between you, needed to end.

hi! idk if you already talked about this but do you perhaps have any headcanons about shin's (and maybe other characters') music taste? really curious about that
Sara Chidouin - Sara likes indie rock, folk rock, and indie music. She's a Mitski girl and loves The Lumineers. Though she also loves cheesy pop songs that would borderline embarrass her if anyone found out she listened to them.
Joe Tazuna - Joe loves KPOP! He's a big fan of "BTS", "Blackpink", and "Day6." The more upbeat the song the more he's into it generally, though he's the type who can list at least a few songs he likes out of most genres. So a song having a more slow or sad tone wouldn't be a dealer breaker for him.
More Undercut
Gin Ibushi - Gin likes theme songs from TV shows. They're catchy and scratch his brain in just the right way, and he often hums them to himself during school hours. He also likes pop, rock, and instrumentals.
Keiji Shinogi - Keiji is a blues man. He loves the sound as it does something to his emotions that's indescribable. In his opinion it's best listened to while sitting on a park bench watching the world pass by. He also likes country and pop.
Alice Yabusame - Alice loves rock, of course, since it reminds him of his sibling bond. Yet, he has a soft spot for songs from musicals and a not so hidden love of ska.
Reko Yabusame - To no surprise Reko loves rock! She's the type of person to spend hours on YouTube looking for a good rock cover of her favorite songs of other genres. She also has a soft spot for gothic tunes and more unique sounds that most people wouldn't find beauty in listening to.
Nao Egokoro - Nao has a highly specific indie taste that could come straight from the "Life Is Strange" soundtrack. All of the music she really likes is perfect for staring at the celling and contemplating life, and this does not register with her as she'll give you music recommendations with a big cheery grin.
Kazumi Mishima - Mishima likes instrumentals. He often puts them on in the background and listens to them while he grades papers or makes some nice afternoon tea. Generally he likes the softer ones the best, but every now and then he'll look for something that sounds more epic.
Q-taro Burgerberg - He has a not so secret love of country music that he tries to hide, but most people assume that's his favorite genre immediately because of how he's dressed. He's big on banjos. He also likes R&B.
Kai Satou - Kai likes orchestra music. Anything with a ton of instruments that sounds like it could be in the background of a heavily dramatic soap opera is his favorite. He likes pop as well.
Kanna Kizuchi - Kanna loves love songs. As long as the main theme of the lyrics are about platonic or romantic love she can listen to any genre and find enjoyment. Though she also likes chiptune.
Shin Tsukimi - Shin listens to a lot of chiptune. It makes him feel like a cool computer hacker from the moves, even though he'd never admit to that. He's also the type to listen to video game/tv/movie soundtracks non stop. Though he also likes indie music and anything by Mitski.
Dolls
Ranmaru Kageyama - Ranmaru's big into synthwave. He tends to listen to it while he studies or is drifting off the sleep at night. He also likes indie and blues.
Naomichi Kurumada - Naomichi loves pop rock. It's the one genre that always makes him super excited to work out. His favorite songs have an upbeat tempo and usually he's not big on songs that have a slow melody.
Anzu Kinashi - Anzu likes jazz. She loves the upbeat tone and trumpets mixed with fast paced piano. If she had background music she'd want to have a lot of trumpets for sure.
Mai Tsurugi - She unironically loves ragtime music. She has it on all the time in the background of her bakery. Though she also likes country music about women getting revenge and fun upbeat pop songs.
Shunsuke Hayasaka - He likes both classic and upbeat pop music. This post is making me realize how many YTTD characters I fully believe love pop. That or I'm projecting real hard.
Hinako Mishuku - Hinako likes heavy metal. The louder and more intense the better. Also Vocaloid.

If you could make your own media show, what would it be about?
Tumblr media
[ID: A digital drawing depicting Murderbot's vision for a show. Murderbot narrates, "It would have action, adventure, probably some extragalactic exploration." The background is a line of planets against a starry backdrop. Some drones float closer to the foreground, stars reflected in their cameras, and the narration continues, "Drones would provide all the camera angles, and the lighting would be chosen on a scene-by-scene basis. There are music notes floating by, captioned by the narration, "The soundtrack would be done by a professional orchestra, and it would be moving, dramatic." In the front and center is an armored SecUnit, holding a weapon and with stars reflected in its faceplate. The narration concludes, "And it would all be based around the story of a heroic SecUnit, who would always save its clients from danger." This is all revealed to be inside of Murderbot's thought bubble. Murderbot, who is drawn with a simple, slightly sheepish expression and a sweat droplet on its forehead, claims, "I spend the regular amount of time thinking about this..." /.End ID]

Summary: The gang at the 4077th spend a fun night dancing at the officer's club

Note: Not gonna lie I wrote this chapter before watching 07x17 and when I saw it I got SO excited that the references matched up with something brought up in the storyline! And if you haven’t seen Sun Valley Serenade go watch it right now, it’s cute and funny and has the Glenn Miller Orchestra what more could you want
Series Masterlist - NDotB Masterlist
Tumblr media
The jukebox played quietly in the background while you sat up on a stool and sipped on a club soda. Nurse Kellye was dancing with Radar when the door opened and B.J., Hawkeye, and Colonel Potter entered the officer's club.
“Wow, talk about lousy,” B.J. chuckled and you rolled your eyes.
You’d heard some more of the nurses were going to be coming by so you hoped that would make the place more lively, but sometimes that was asking a lot from those living in a war zone.
“A martini please,” Hawkeye said. “So dry you can see tumbleweeds rolling through it.”
“Just a club soda?” the Colonel asked and you nodded.
“Post-op in the morning, but I still wanted to come and check out what all the fuss was about,” you commented.
Just as you had expected, the nurses filed in and all grabbed their drinks before pulling in some of the officers to dance.
“Man these guys are terrible,” you chuckled and looked at Hawkeye and B.J.
“Yeah, did none of their mothers ever make them take dancing lessons?” Hawkeye asked.
You snorted at the thought of a young Hawkeye Pierce all dressed up for ballroom dancing classes.
“What’s so funny,” he nudged your arm and you stared at him like he was insane.
“I just find the thought of teeny tiny Ben, dancing around the room endearing.”
“Why don’t I prove it to you,” he offered a hand to you. “What do you say we show ‘em how it’s done?”
“I think that’s something I can get behind,” you agreed, taking his hand in yours and hopping off the stool while Hawkeye pulled you into his chest and swayed from side to side with the rhythm of the music. You couldn’t help but laugh at his exaggerated movements while he tossed you around like you were nothing but a rag doll.
“Ben!” you squealed as he dipped you down so far the top of your head almost touched the floor.
“Did no one tell you teeny tiny Ben had a flair for the dramatic?” he wiggled his eyebrows and you playfully rolled your eyes.
The song playing on the jukebox finished and nurse Bigelow quickly pressed the button for another one. This time it was a bit slower than before and Hawkeye was happy enough with the taste of silly dancing he’d given you and decided to take something seriously for once.
He held one of your hands close to his chest while you used the other to lead as the quiet sounds of the Glenn Miller Orchestra serenaded you.
“Did you ever watch the film?” you asked. “The one that this song was in?”
“Maybe, I vaguely remember a cheeky Scandinavian girl and a bit of an uptight pianist.”
“That’s the one,” you nodded your head. “ Sun Valley Serenade .”
“They’re kind of like us, no?” Hawkeye asked.
“You’re the cheeky Scandinavian girl and I’m the uptight pianist?” you raised a brow.
“Exactly,” he nodded. “And the Scandinavian girl always liked the pianist, but the pianist’s heart just wasn’t in it at first.”
“But after a lot of coaxing, she grows on him, even though she can be a bit much sometimes, he knows he’d rather live life with a bit much than not enough.”
Hawkeye gave you a small smile for that and you chewed on the inside of your cheek while resting the side of your head against his chest.
“The lessons paid off,” you said softly. “Thank your mother for me.”
“Thank her yourself,” he said simply. “She died when I was a kid.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Pierce,” you said looking up at the ceiling. “And I’m sorry for your loss.”
“It’s alright. Gets a little less painful every day.”
“I’m glad to hear that,” you sighed.
After a moment of silence between you both, Hawkeye spoke up once more.
“I hope you don’t mind me pointing it out, but you’re not wearing your wedding ring anymore,” he held your left hand in his, brushing a thumb against your bare fingers.
“I don’t,” you shook your head. “I just…finally felt like it was okay for me to stop wearing it.”
“Your hand looks weird without it,” he teased. “I wasn’t even sure I was holding yours, I had to make sure it was attached to the right body.”
“You never run out of comebacks do you?”
“No, it’s another thing we have a surplus of over here,” he nodded and you chuckled.
Off in the corner, B.J. sat with Colonel Potter, both continuing to enjoy their drinks with their eyes on the two surgeons dancing and laughing together in the middle of the room.
“You think he realizes it yet?” B.J. asked the Colonel.
“Not a damn chance,” he shook his head. “I just wish they’d hurry up and figure it out already, it’d save us all a lot of headaches.”
“I’ll drink to that,” B.J. chuckled and clinked glasses with the Colonel.
“Hey Beej! Cut in for me would ya?” Hawkeye asked. “She keeps stepping on my toes!”
“I do not!” you protested and slapped him lightly on the chest.
B.J. complied and placed his beer on the table before stealing you away from his best friend and giving you a twirl for good measure.
“You tired him out and you were both fully clothed. That’s got to earn some kind of commendation,” he teased.
“Shut up B.J.” you punched his arm.
“Violent, I might have to report you,” he clicked his tongue.
“You two are just something y’know,” you sighed.
“I could say the same for the two of you,” he retorted.
“Us two?” you pointed to yourself then Hawkeye before B.J. dipped you.
“Yeah, you guys are more chummy than those two cockroaches that live behind my bed.”
“Well, I-we-,” you didn’t know how to respond, after all, he was right.
“Don’t worry about it, just make sure I’m invited to the wedding,” he said.
“B.J.!” you frowned.
“What! What! I’m kidding,” he insisted, but you’d known Captain B.J. Hunnicutt long enough to know when he was and wasn’t kidding. This was not one of those times.

layton music propaganda go!
short little list of some specific minutiae in random layton tracks that i have feelings for in no particular order:
folsense (live): the wistful/melancholic calm vibes of this live version are SO good i used to put this on and fall asleep to it all the time. anyway the claves on beat 2 of every other measure in the second half that starts at 2:35 <3. specifically the second one that happens at 2:46 that is ultra crisp
the looming tower (live): the accordions are so dramatic and the violin soloist goes OFF!! the beat being made by what sounds like a cello/bass player on the side slapping the upper bout of their instrument (i forgot what that technique is called) and being able to hear the bass strings rattle from being plucked.. 🤌
puzzles reinvented/puzzles 3: one of the two tracks that got me through my assignments in highschool/undergrad i'd put this baby on and i'd be nonstop productive for hours it was crazy. anyway there are 2 ostinatos going on at the same time for most of the track, one being that phrase in the beginning that keeps going in the upper register and the other one starting a little later around 0:20 in a lower register, which creates that feeling of time ticking and passing quickly. there's the allegro version of this that plays when you gotta GO and so it has the 2 ostinatos right off the bat to have that extra gogogogogo feeling. also the movie was so based for using this theme for the first puzzle + the lead up to this track playing is so good it's one of my fav moments in the movie
puzzle battle: the puzzles reinvented melody at 1:10-1:23 right before it loops
don paolo's theme (live): the fact that it's purely an accordion duet and you can hear them switching leads from left to right w headphones
the village starts moving: the accordion in the back holding the quiet drone note the whole time that gives the track that unsettled unresting feeling (the nonstop chords that keep the beat + dragging accordion melody with longer notes help w that too)
the mobile fortress (live): one of the hugest glow ups from the in-game track to the live rendition!! the acoustics in this studio/hall that they're recording all these live versions plays so well into this; the slight echo effect just adds to how large scale this part of the game feels. the part at 2:22 especially is rightfully terrifying! also i really like the addition of the wood blocks. anyway it is such a shame that they had to edit it down to the in-game version so that it would fit on a ds cartridge😔
london 3 (live): my beloved… the way it starts off with a solo violin (+vibraphone) and then a solo cello joins in at 0:27 and then the rest of the orchestra comes in at 0:48 with a soft cymbal roll. the feeling of intimacy contained within that beginning section……… also the added winds and the sustained horns near the end that sound like loss and grief (to me)!!
about town, plvsaa: one of my fav plvsaa rearrangements.. the little xylophone in the back that kinda goes tick tock tick tock is what does it for me bc the whole piece got its instrumentation changed up but the xylophone is like a call back to its roots in the original version
the research facility (live): occasionally hearing the accordion soloist pressing the keys bc they are SO into it to the point of almost doing hammer-ons
theme of the last battle (live): each next higher register section of the orchestra progressively coming in after each phrase at the beginning
case select, lbmr: the vibraphone run at the beginning from 0:06-0:08
investigation, lbmr: the other track that got me through my high school and undergrad homework. the wacky guitarish synth in the background starting at 0:41 that is actually used a lot in the ost in general to almost create a beat similar to beatboxing
rumble!: the occasional washboard + the triangle on beats 3,4 of every other measure + tambourine on beat 4 of the other measures.. silly
pl1 ending theme (live): the whole thing but like specifically the occasional little snare drum rolls that sound like a march.. i listened to this when i graduated and it made me cry
special mention to these minigame tracks:
toy car
toy train
the fish they make me smile :]
these are just a couple random tracks, this list def isn't everything i could go on forever!!!!!
if you have oddly specific things in music you like too please share them w me!! i'd love to hear :]

[Scene: I'm playing music loudly while prepping dinner when Beth, age 14, returns to the room to finish making her homemade gnocchi...] Beth: "What is this music?" Me: "Thus Spake Zarathustra. It's by a German composer named Strauss." Beth: "It's very dramatic for cooking." Me: "Well, the dawn of man, the dinner of man — almost the same thing." Beth: ... Me: "From 2001?" Beth: "I wasn't alive then." Me: "No, 2001, the movie. Oh, never mind. The beginning has a sequence involving the evolution of human consciousness and uses the opening of this song. It's famous now. It basically became a meme before modern memes." Beth: "Is German orchestra music really the right background for making Italian food?" Me: "Good point. Let's try something else." [searches in Spotify app, begins playing a song] "OK, this is more appropriate." Beth: "Who is this?" Me: "Luciano Pavarotti. One of your great grandmother's favorite opera singers." Beth: "She had more than one favorite opera singer?" Me: "Oh, she had lots. Here's another." [updates Spotify] "Placido Domingo. He's Spanish, not Italian, but an amazing opera singer." Beth: ... Me: "What?" Beth: "I do not understand opera." Me: "It's not in English." Beth: "No, I mean: I do not understand the appeal of opera." Me: "OK, if you don't like that..." [updates Spotify] "...maybe this is better." Beth: "Who is this?" Me: "Frank Sinatra." Beth: "I think I've heard this before." Me: "Probably. Or maybe..." [updates Spotify] "...Bobby Darin." Beth: "I've definitely heard this before." Me: [cycles through a few more — Perry Como, Tony Bennett, and...] Beth: "Dean Martin? His parents gave him two first names?" Me: "That's just his stage name. He was born Dino Crovetti or Crosetti or something, I can't remember." Beth: "Wait, he chose that name on purpose?" Me: "Yeah, because having a really Italian name would just hold him back in the U.S., at least back in his day. All of these guys had really Italian names that they changed." Beth: "Jeez. Nowadays a cool name like that would definitely help." Me: "Suddenly all of this is beginning to feel like the soundtrack to Buca di Beppo." Beth: "But the food here is way better." Me: [turns up the music]

Time doesn't slow down
When you walk into the room
My knees don't actually shake
And there's no romantic tune
In the background
No violins, no orchestras, no songs
I haven't planned our wedding
Nor do I know the name of our children
Can I ever be in love
When we haven't saved the world together
When we haven't almost died
And no one saved the other
from falling off a cliff
When there is no shared trauma and no villains
Can I ever be in love
Without an audience and music
without fanfictions and interviews
Without dramatic door step speeches
Without pining for ten years
You're not my childhood friend
Nor someone I can't have
You're not my boss
And I don't need to fix you
You're not even a little depressed
And our parents approve
Can I ever be in love
If neither of us has a tragic backstory
Can I even kiss you
If there's no rain, no bridge, no sunset
Or a flight to catch
Can we be together
If there's no plot depending on that
Can I be in love if there's no one there to watch?

SHINee As Musical Instruments
Taemin wanting to portray the piano like an instrument that shows his identity have made me and my friend Lucille, who is also a dedicated Shawol, wonder what musical instrument would best describe the other members?
Credit to Lucille for half of the descriptions I’ve written for each member. And links for the source of the quoted ones are listed below.
Now, let’s start!

Onew is a Violin
He comes across as heartbreakingly tender and gentle, and everything soft. Just as a violin often creates music that is peaceful and soothing to the ear, he is calm, polite, a bit reserve and soft-spoken. He has a quiet strength and stability that he shows as a leader. And just as the sound of a violin can be dreamy or hauntingly mysterious, he is also undeniably elegant, utterly enigmatic, with a hint of a romantic and subtle sexiness.
“The violin and other string instruments represent cold, sadness, tranquility, sympathy, fragility, and joy.”
”Experts say quietly behaved children who are happy to be a part of a whole, not needing to stand out and be heard, generally excel with a violin.”

Jonghyun is a Guitar
It is a versatile instrument. You can play it at just about anywhere, and it is one of the most accessible. It can be the lead or a background rhythm. It can be sensual, sentimental, romantic, or explosive. I don’t know how to explain it except that just like the sound of an electric guitar, he is powerful and hot, and sexy. He has this strong presence that is clearly felt, like even when you stopped playing the instrument, the sound lingers and you can still hear it echoes from a distance.
”A distorted guitar represents power, aggression, and strength, while a “clean” electric guitar is used to symbolize anguish and solitude.”

┊ ✿ -ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ- 🍃
Key is the Cymbals
Everything he does is in your face, but in a good way. He is loud and not shy to voice out his opinion. He is sassy and has a flair for dramatic antics which never fails to elicit so much laughter from both fans and non-fans alike. His personality, his sense of fashion, his creative and artistic skills, his unique humour and quick wit, and his generous heart make him shine like pure gold and enable him to get along well and work with different types of people in a variety of fields. No one can miss Key in a crowd because he stands out.
”Cymbals are used in many ensembles ranging from the orchestra, percussion ensembles, jazz bands, heavy metal bands, and marching groups.”
”The use of Cymbals in a musical ensemble justifies the expression of high strung emotions accompanied by drama and tension in a composition. Cymbals belong to the family of percussion instruments with an indefinite pitch. The high pitch of the Cymbal is used to accentuate the effect of compositions where the unique sound of the Cymbals can be heard above all the other instruments particularly in the romantic period orchestra.”
🌸ೃ⁀➷♡ _______ ~ ________
┊ ✿ -ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ- 🍃
Minho is the Drums
He is so passionate, intense, confident, and dynamic. He is loud and strong. You use sticks and much of your body to play the drums. And we know how athletic Ming is and that he relishes activities that challenge his strength and endurance. But just like when drums are hit lightly and a gentle tremor of sound can still be heard, you can feel his reliable presence even when he is silent. Just like he has always been there, showing his support behind-the-scenes, for all of his members.
”If your child tends to be a little restless, playing percussion could be the perfect fit for their nervous energy. This includes the drums, cymbals, maracas, wood-block, drum kit, xylophone and timpani.”
”Drumming can be physically demanding and requires a storehouse of energy. What kind of personality is associated with this abundance of energy?”
”Drummers often play the instrument to release energy. In that way, it’s very therapeutic for certain types of people.”
”Percussion instruments are on the louder side, but surprisingly, percussionists are often known as the more strong and silent type. They tend to be the most reliable, and although shy, are personable and cool.”

Taemin is a Piano
He can either be so sweet or just as equally savage, but he is always classy, always elegant. He has a similar duality in the way a piano can sound eerily dark, spine tingling or sexy, but then it can also sound wholesome and bright, light like a beautiful day in Spring. That’s our Taemii. And just like how he can easily convey emotions so well through his voice and expressions, a piano can sound so achingly poignant too. Playing this instrument requires focus and attention to details, and we know Taemin is a perfectionist.
”A piano can be mellow and can represent contentment or, from another angle, romance.”
”Generally, piano players are quiet, intelligent, inquisitive and analytical.”

Okay what about fmk Jackie, Nicky, and Denali?
Grrrrrr >:(
I’m gonna marry Jackie simply out of spite. Also you better don’t kill my wife cause I will plot revenge!
Now everything else is literally impossible to decide ….
But after waaay too long consideration I’m going to fuck Denali and involuntarily kill Nicky.
It’ll be a sorrowful scene ya know, where i had to lure her in and then have to press a silk pillow to her face as tears stream down my face and dramatic orchestra music plays in the background.

cant find my favorite tiktok. Its the only acceptable tiktok.
Its a screen recording of this kid playing with this game? And the game is just a game where you control puppets i think? and the kid is controlling a puppet that looks like William Shakespeare. Somber orchestra music is playing in the background and the kid recording moves the puppet around while singing (very dramatically and emotively) "I am just an old... Person...... I am the Emperor of this town! And i... Am about...*sighs* To die..... "
That video makes me laugh so hard every time

Angel Olsen — Big Time (Jagjaguwar)
Tumblr media

youtube
Country music was made for emotional turmoil, so it makes sense that Angel Olsen would turn to the twang just about now. Olsen had just come to terms with her queerness, fallen in love and shared these developments with her family when both parents died suddenly within weeks of each other. That’s a lot to process — you can get a contact buzz of guilt just thinking about it. And what better way to get a handle on that than through a heartfelt, stripped-down, country-flavored album like Big Time?
Long one of indie-pop’s most distinctive writers and singers, Olsen has come close to country before. Her earliest recordings were spare, revealing folk tunes. She’s always had a slight, emotionally-laden tremolo in her voice that recalls classic country singers like Patsy Cline. But she’s been away for a while, experimenting with electrified licks, pop diva choruses and, memorably, a platinum blonde wig. She’s a pop performer with many guises, and this may just be one more, however real and grounded it seems. And yet, if it’s a pose, it’s a lovely one, producing the best, most purely gorgeous Angel Olsen material since Burn Your Fire for No Witness.
“I can’t say that I’m sorry when I don’t feel so wrong anymore,” croons Olsen at the outset of “All the Good Times.” She declares her self-knowledge as a drone of organ wreathes her warbling sincerity and a pedal steel flares in the background. Crisp, reverbed drums cut through the haze of emotion, bumping up the offbeats, giving the song a supple spine. A southern soul horn line interjects occasionally as the song smolders, then blows into full, confident crescendo. It’s a song that knows how to reveal itself slowly, how to grow from a murmur in your ear to a full rollicking chorus without losing its direct emotional appeal.
The lushest song on this plush and well-arranged album comes late, in “Through the Fires.” It’s pitched somewhere between 4AD dream pop and a 1940s movie soundtrack. Strings swell dramatically under Olsen’s soft, hypnotic vocals. She is assured but quiet, whispering breathy runs of melody, like Julee Cruise backed by the Henry Mancini orchestra. Yet though the orchestration is mannered and serene, the lyrics are bracing. “Walk through the fires/Of all earthly desires/And let go of the pain that obstructs you from higher higher higher,” sings Olsen, limning lurid images of personal destruction in the calmest voice imaginable.
But it’s not all suffering. The title track is unequivocally a love song, a country waltz giddy with happiness, with lyrics about morning kisses and coffee and the simplest elements of domestic bliss. You like to think about happy endings for artists who have been through as much as Olsen has lately. “Big Time” is rich with ordinary pleasures — a twanging chorus, a swell of guitars, a kick of roadhouse drums — and gorgeous.

tell me ur pjsk thoughts <333
yknow what i talk about the blorbos so much i want to ramble about gameplay first. its a game of music so obviously they put a lot of work in sound design, right? the way that the different degrees of note sound slightly different (perfect is a sharp, crisp sound, great is softer, good is dull, etc) is both a useful audio indicator for experienced players to measure how well they are doing in a combo/all perfect attempt but also a way to keep less experienced players engaged with variety! also the background music slaps so hard you'll be watching a silly little play by some gay little theater clowns and the most banger of epic orchestras is playing in the back. this is my favorite it plays during a scene where rui makes the funniest little aaaaauuuuuuu!!!!! when he (the villan) is defeated. i had to put down my phone for a second. it's also a soundtrack that really fits the vibes of each of the units songs are used for! oh and actually playing games is quite fun, too. i feel like i should mention i actually like to play the game. i spend a lot of time doing that. according to the game i have played 3246 shows. i have done over a thousand of those shows with rui as the leader. i have a card for him for every type completely maxed out. hes also like 10 character levels higher than everyone else. i dont have a favorite..... this is not about shows uhhhh something i really appreciate about sekai is how creative the beat maps are! the law evading rock map is both super fun to play but also mirrors the original 2dmv!! oh and traffic jam during a part in the master chart there's green holds and then red flicks mirroring the 2dmv as well! and the salamander chart has a little cloud shaped hold for the "fuu" like blowing on hot noodles! and the once upon a dream during the "this world is full of strange, irregular things" or however the lyric translates the holds are funky shapes! there's so so so so so so many little references and they all fit so well.
ok i think that's enough about like. playing the game. anyways blorbos are amazing rui the aromantic gender stealing king and his little troupe of aroace idiots i love them so much they do so much for eachother and simply being hwere they are now shows so much growth from their pasts. tsukasa in a place where he can learn to be the star he's always dreamed of and he has friends who genuinely care about him and he's no longer lonely and he learns so much about being a better person and aaaa. emu's card stories hurt so bad cause those are the ones she mentions her grandpa in most. one story she had wxs decorate pxl for christmas and she climbed like a two story tall tree to put some lights up and she was like this is what me and grandpa did :) and then wehn they put the lights down she climbed the tree again and looked up to the clouds and thought about how she was closer to her grandpa from up there and she hopes he's proud of how much fun she's having with her new friends. he is proud emu. she's the best girl ever shes always painted as sunshine and bubbles and she is all wonderhoy yay happy but she has emotions too yall she's learning how to express those not so happy emotions and im proud of her for it. nene is the best she's so skilled i love how she gets very sharp tounged around those she's safe with and how much she cares about these new friends and how she's learned to not only become more confident in herself but how to be a teammate and yeah. nene. dont even get me started on rui. this dude. he's been so lonely. middle school rui breaks me he just needs a friend and now he's in a place where he's not only allowed but embraced for who he is. hes weird and dramatic and thats why hes awesome. and he cares! so ! much! all the safety he puts in and how much he considers everyone in the troupe for his plans and ajajfkdjfklasjfkljdsakfjdsaklfjksaljfklsdjfklasdjkf he loves his friends so much he made an entire sekai inside sekai about it. and inside the sekai were mini wxs and they went to the moon (literally) beacuse of him and they wanted him to stay. not to be cast out. to stay. thats how he feels about his friends. accepted. amazing.

Eurovision Semifinal 1:
As usual I avoided spoilers during the day and watched after work.
I wonder if people tried to anthropomorphize remote control cars after those became popular.
Oh we have a theme song of sorts. This segment reminds me a bit of the “Rainmaker” interval act from Copenhagen.
The LED (?) background behind the hosts looks very odd. I know there were issues with the stage so I am assuming (I hope?) this is probably not how it was intended to look.
Rooting for Lithuania, Iceland, and Armenia tonight.
Albania, Ronela Hajati, "Sekret" – Dancing seems a little tentative at the start.  She hits the low parts very well but chorus is weaker. So is the idea that she is unashamed of relationships with both men and women (i.e. she’s not keeping it a secret)?
Latvia, Citi Zēni, "Eat Your Salad" – Well, they have a lot of energy, but I really don't get it.
I'm not that into these postcards.
Lithuania, Monika Liu, "Sentimentai" – Song is very good, but not a fan of the camera work.  It seems designed for a different type of song with dramatic crescendos and strings.
Switzerland, Marius Bear, "Boys Do Cry" – The shadow effect is cool, but it’s a little much with projections and effects. With these last two songs I'm wondering if it was really necessary to have so many camera cuts.  It's not really conveying the sort of intimacy the songs suggest.
Slovenia, LPS, "Disko" – Okay, this sweeping camera with its repetitive zooms is very strange.  It was a solid performance but was the camera supposed to move that fast and be focused so oddly?
Ukraine, Kalush Orchestra, "Stefania" – The floor effect is cool, good use visual. Overall a good show, quite a bit stronger than at the national final.  Ukraine as usual coming through with the staging.
Bulgaria, Intelligent Music Project, "Intention" – It does sound a little better than the recorded version.  They are certainly a band.
This waterfall stage seems cool as a concept but when I see it it makes me think the performers are trapped behind a moat and can't get to the audience.
The Netherlands, S10, "De Diepte" – Here the camera work actually seems to work with the music and is not gratuitously swooping. Quite good.
Moldova, Zdob şi Zdub & Fraţii Advahov, “Trenuleţul” – Hmm.  More rock and roll than I was expecting, kind of preferred the folky intro. Oh they used this satellite stage... and there are giant LED panels?  Slightly confused but good to see something else.
Portugal, MARO, "Saudade, Saudade" – Starting off in darkness. Oh Portugal uses the water as background very effectively, and we get to see the audience in the shots too. This music has a watery feel to it so it fits nicely. Really enjoyed that.
Croatia, Mia Dimsic, "Guilty Pleasure" – Not too bad. The Croatian part at the end gives it a bit of variety and the dancers tell most of the story.  Pretty straightforward and I think it works.
Denmark, Reddi, "The Show" – Lots of enthusiasm, but not that much different than the national final.
Austria, LUM¡X feat Pia Maria, "Halo" - They look like they're having a lot of fun. Singing could be stronger.
Iceland, Systur, "Með hækkandi sól" – Oh they got outfit upgrades. Glad to  hear the audience get into it. Not sure the song translated that well to an arena. Seems like some of the changes didn't quite come together tightly but the little changeup to the bridge was nice.
Greece, Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord, "Die Together" – Playing up the creepiness with her dress and the chairs, she looks like a Victorian ghost trying to relive old memories in an abandoned house.  Much more memorable than the music video, well done.
Norway, Subwoolfer, "Give That Wolf a Banana" – The word graphics are very in-your-face. Was someone in the audience shouting at the end of the song?
Armenia, Rosa Linn, "Snap" – Audience is clapping immediately, nice. Really staging for the the TV audience. Could the live audience see anything before she tore down the curtain?
Portugal and Greece really moved up for me with their staging and I think Portugal may have been my favorite tonight because of that. Croatia and Ukraine improved quite a bit from their official videos. I already liked Iceland and Armenia (in fact just bought Armenia's song about a week ago), so no big changes there.  Lithuania and Albania were a bit underwhelming on stage.
Is that the audience singing “Fai Rumore”? Wow.
Who is this narrator? This seems right out of Melodifestivalen.
The Junior Eurovision winner's song sounds pretty catchy.
"You're good to go."  Well, maybe that catchphrase will grow on me in a few years.
Yes Armenia and Iceland! And Lithuania! And Portugal!
Wow, the results were far more to my taste than I expected.  I might have swapped in Croatia and Albania but overall I am pretty thrilled with the results.  Six of my top ten are already in the final (seven including France)!
