SHINee As Musical Instruments

Taemin wanting to portray the piano like an instrument that shows his identity have made me and my friend Lucille, who is also a dedicated Shawol, wonder what musical instrument would best describe the other members?

Onew is a Violin

He comes across as heartbreakingly tender and gentle, and everything soft. Just as a violin often creates music that is peaceful and soothing to the ear, he is calm, polite, a bit reserve and soft-spoken. He has a quiet strength and stability that he shows as a leader. And just as the sound of a violin can be dreamy or hauntingly mysterious, he is also undeniably elegant, utterly enigmatic, with a hint of a romantic and subtle sexiness.

”Experts say quietly behaved children who are happy to be a part of a whole, not needing to stand out and be heard, generally excel with a violin.”

Jonghyun is a Guitar

It is a versatile instrument. You can play it at just about anywhere, and it is one of the most accessible. It can be the lead or a background rhythm. It can be sensual, sentimental, romantic, or explosive. I don’t know how to explain it except that just like the sound of an electric guitar, he is powerful and hot, and sexy. He has this strong presence that is clearly felt, like even when you stopped playing the instrument, the sound lingers and you can still hear it echoes from a distance.

”A distorted guitar represents power, aggression, and strength, while a “clean” electric guitar is used to symbolize anguish and solitude.”

Key is the Cymbals

Everything he does is in your face, but in a good way. He is loud and not shy to voice out his opinion. He is sassy and has a flair for dramatic antics which never fails to elicit so much laughter from both fans and non-fans alike. His personality, his sense of fashion, his creative and artistic skills, his unique humour and quick wit, and his generous heart make him shine like pure gold and enable him to get along well and work with different types of people in a variety of fields. No one can miss Key in a crowd because he stands out.

”Cymbals are used in many ensembles ranging from the orchestra, percussion ensembles, jazz bands, heavy metal bands, and marching groups.”

Minho is the Drums

He is so passionate, intense, confident, and dynamic. He is loud and strong. You use sticks and much of your body to play the drums. And we know how athletic Ming is and that he relishes activities that challenge his strength and endurance. But just like when drums are hit lightly and a gentle tremor of sound can still be heard, you can feel his reliable presence even when he is silent. Just like he has always been there, showing his support behind-the-scenes, for all of his members.

”If your child tends to be a little restless, playing percussion could be the perfect fit for their nervous energy. This includes the drums, cymbals, maracas, wood-block, drum kit, xylophone and timpani.”

Taemin is a Piano

He can either be so sweet or just as equally savage, but he is always classy, always elegant. He has a similar duality in the way a piano can sound eerily dark, spine tingling or sexy, but then it can also sound wholesome and bright, light like a beautiful day in Spring. That’s our Taemii. And just like how he can easily convey emotions so well through his voice and expressions, a piano can sound so achingly poignant too. Playing this instrument requires focus and attention to details, and we know Taemin is a perfectionist.

”A piano can be mellow and can represent contentment or, from another angle, romance.”

This is a Twitter thread I made as a response to a moot asking if SHINee members were food/desserts (Can't remember which 😂), what would be their ingredients and why?

But Instead of listing food-related words, I described how I see them as a person and artist.
