BRB thinking thoughts about Taigen's character, the TaiMizu ship, and a big chunk of fandom's perceptions regarding both those things.
(Inspired by @farintonorth's post related to this topic that just got my brain going brrrrr)
OK so let me just... start off by saying that I think that reducing stories to their tropes is seriously detrimental to the way some people are interacting with fiction, and while that honestly warrants its own post about the subject, I wanna talk specifically about how this affects the way some people in the fandom talk about Taigen and TaiMizu.
Because yeah, tropes are useful shorthand to refer to certain dynamics or archetypes etc, and they are indeed the building blocks to any story. But in a well-written story, characters and their relationships, actions, and motivations, are much more complex than just tropes. Because in a story that has characters who are more than just cardboard cutouts, their behaviours, backgrounds, motivations and all of that, are inseparable from the context of the overall story they exist in.
So like, sure, you can say Mizu and Taigen have an enemies-to-lovers or rivals-to-lovers dynamic. I also use those terms because it's easier. But I also think this is where things start to get a bit twisted, especially from an intertextual sense. Because "enemies-to-lovers" is also commonly used to refer to other ships in other media, whereby it tends to be rooted in an imbalanced power dynamic, such as oppressor-oppressed and bully-victim.
And while that's a whole can of worms that I won't be getting into because it can quickly derail into a whole separate sort of fandom discourse, I'd just like to make it clear that Mizu and Taigen, in particular, do not have an imbalanced power dynamic. They are not bully-victim or oppressor-oppressed. The only understandable reason why someone might actually think their relationship is imbalanced is if
A) they only watched the first episode, or
B) they cannot grasp the slightest bit of nuance in a character, or
C) they're being obtuse on purpose simply because the Mizu/Taigen relationship, or Taigen's character in general, just doesn't suit their tastes.
While yes, Taigen, along with his whole gang, had bullied Mizu when they were children, that dynamic does not exist between them whatsoever in adulthood. Whatever imbalanced bully-victim power dynamic that had once existed between them was decisively ripped apart the moment Mizu beat him in that duel in the dojo, and then completely obliterated by the end of the season.
Mizu is not a defenseless victim at Taigen's mercy. Mizu can beat Taigen's ass any time she wants (and she DOES, repeatedly in fact), and could even kill him if she felt like it. She taunts him openly and without fear ("I like your hair"; "I can beat you with any weapon you choose") and all he does is bark back, because that's pretty much all Taigen ever does. Time and time again, he yaps about how much he wants to kill her, but time and time again, his actions prove that all of it is just an empty threat. Because though his words say "I hate you", his actions demonstrate the complete opposite. He's shown how protective he is of Mizu, how unhesitatingly he sacrifices himself up for her, how loyal he is in enduring days-long torture to not give up information about her, how even when near-death and in pain, he's still willing to keep standing back up so he can fight by her side and help her win against her enemies.
And Mizu is not an idiot! She sees that too. She does not see him as a threat, an enemy, or even a bully. Especially not by the end of Episode 3, and definitely not by the end of the season. When she finds him in the dungeon in Episode 6, she smiles from relief, and doesn't think twice to take him with her. Mizu finds him, at best, an annoyance, or at worst, an infuriating hindrance on her quest for vengeance. Which is why, when Taigen is about to say, "It's a shame our duel's set for tomorrow; I have to kill you before you get your revenge," Mizu whacks him on the head without a second thought before he can even finish his sentence, and leaves him lying unconscious, face-down, in the snow.
And this further emphasises how he does not hold any power over her. There is no abusive power dynamic between them. She is more powerful than him, he knows this, and all he's ever done after they've met up again in adulthood is get his ass whooped by her, get mad about it and pester her and follow her around, get his ass whooped by her some more, and put his life on the line to protect her.
"OOoooOOoooH b-but he called her a demon at the end of Episode 7 and threatened to kill her again!!!" Oh my god. He called her that because he's calling her out on her selfishness to stay silent about her knowledge of Fowler's plans to attack Edo. Because to him, loyalty and honour as a samurai is more important than anything. So in his own brash-and-immature Taigen way, he felt betrayed that Mizu did not hold the same principles. That's why he got angry. He wasn't even that mad about letting Akemi get dragged off by the Tokunobu guards. It was about saving the Shogun and the Shogunate as a whole. That's why the first thing he does in Edo is not find Akemi, but try to warn the Shogun about Fowler's attack.
Look, I'm not defending his stupid ass, of course. Because calling her a demon especially after their cute little wrestling time was obviously rude and inappropriate, especially since words like "demon", "monster" and "Onryo" have had such a deep effect on Mizu throughout her life, and continue to contribute to her self-hatred. But like? That's the fun of realistic and flawed characters, and realistic and flawed relationships. They're not perfect, and it's why we as an audience root for them, wanting to see them work through their shit and find a way to prevail despite it all.
Also, him saying that was in the heat of the moment. He was angry, he felt like his initial belief of who Mizu was—a strong and loyal samurai, just like him—was shattered, and so he lashed out. Was it rude? Definitely. Was it immature of him? Yes, incredibly. But it's also very much in line with his character, because even though he's grown a lot over the course of the season, the show isn't over yet, so obviously his character arc is just beginning, as that is also the case for the other three main characters: Mizu is beginning to accept herself, Akemi is beginning to grow into her position of power, Ringo beginning to train under Master Eiji, while Taigen is beginning to simply be a better person.
On that note, when speaking of Taigen's immaturity, I think that's also one of the main things that people tend to gloss over when it comes to his character. Because when you boil everything down to its bare essentials, Taigen is, essentially, a boy. I've talked about this before, but to reiterate, Taigen very much behaves like an unhealed child. Even as an adult, he is insecure, prone to throwing tantrums, and is desperate to latch onto some material goal in hopes that it will make him feel better—initially he was chasing status/glory/greatness, and then when Mizu tells him that "Nothing comes from being a samurai but death," he immediately decides he wants to run away with Akemi in hopes that he will be happy.
And it's a big step, acknowledging that he doesn't truly want greatness, but had always just assumed it was his only path to a good life. But it's clear he still hasn't really figured it out. Because if he did run off with Akemi to get married and live in the countryside, he still wouldn't be happy. Because he still doesn't know who he really is, or what it is he really wants. Marriage at this moment is the last thing he needs, and as he is now, he would be a pretty awful husband. A simple life would be good for him, but would he be good at a simple life, when he still has so much he needs to work through?
So anyway, what I'm getting at here, is that he's trying and he is learning and growing. So yeah, he is flawed, but honestly? So is Mizu. And the funny thing is that they're flawed in very similar ways.
Because Mizu is also an unhealed child. That's why she's so angry all the time. That's why she pushes people away. That's why she, just like Taigen, is so happy when given the chance to playfully wrestle in the forge, laughing and rolling around like children without shame or pretense.
Again, this shows there is no imbalance between them. They had grown up together as peers from the same town. And while Taigen had had the upper hand back then, because he'd had a gang of other kids with him, that is definitely not the case anymore. Today, they are equally flawed, equally strong, equally skilled swordsmen, and equally bull-headed.
However, yes, Mizu is definitely leagues more mature than Taigen. But she still holds a lot of childhood wounds that mirror Taigen's own. And we see this especially in relation to her mother. Similar to Taigen who had an abusive and alcoholic father, Mizu's Mama was an opium addict and had hit her, berated her, had shaved her head without her consent as a child, and as an adult, had constantly emotionally manipulated and guilt-tripped her. Mizu's love for her Mama was what had driven her to a path of vengeance in the very beginning. And when she'd found out Mama was still alive, she had wanted nothing more than her Mama's love, and it was this alone that pushed her to agree to the marriage with Mikio in the first place. And now, knowing from Fowler that her birth mother is someone else entirely, is what makes her agree to keep him alive and haul his ass to London to seek answers.
Thus, integral to Mizu's self-hatred is also Mizu's intense longing for love and family. Just like Taigen, whose pompousness comes from his insecurity about being the son of a poor fisherman, Mizu's goals are also shaped by who her parents are. Remember, her vengeance is not against just anyone who's corrupt or evil, but specifically against the men who she believes had assaulted her mother, the men she believes had made her a monster, the men she believes had abandoned her to die and continue to try to kill her. Her vengeance is against a father, on behalf of a mother. In The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride, Mizu is not merely the Ronin, the Bride, or the Onryo, but also the Child.
This is also why Ringo is so good, not only for Mizu, but for Taigen as well. Ringo is wise and caring and considerate, but above all, he is in tune with his inner child in ways that Mizu and Taigen are not. He is always earnest and positive, he sees the world with childlike wonder, but is not naive or blind to its ugliness. His whole life has been a battle. Ringo brings out the best in Mizu, consistently acting as her moral compass and conscience, and Mizu's choice to save Akemi in the final episode is only because she promised Ringo that she would. Because it's the right thing to do. Ringo inspires her to be a better person, and to think outside of her narrow-minded goal of revenge. At the same time, Ringo also brings out the best in Taigen. While at first Taigen had looked down on both Mizu and Ringo ("Half-limb to a half-wit"), by the end of the season, he's proud to have Ringo as a friend and ally, he listens to Ringo's advice ("What would Master do?"), and asserts to the fucking Shogun that Ringo is a worthy warrior to have by his side.
Okay, I've gone on a bit of a tangent here, but my main point is that Mizu and Taigen are incredibly similar. They are equals. They are both flawed, unhealed children who are chasing some impossible outlandish goal in hopes that it will fill the void in their hearts. They also both have a long way to go in terms of character development if they were to ever build a healthy romantic relationship (either with each other, or even with anyone else). So while I believe things will be rocky (because duh, it's a story, we all live for the drama, etc), I think with Ringo's help, they'll get there eventually.

Hot take here but...
Like I know this is Tumblr. This is the autism site.
So of course I knew everyone would side with Laios on this and empathize more with him but its driving me insane how everybodys saying Toshiro was completely on the wrong here and he should have communicated better and talked about his grievances with Laios WHEN THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS IS THEY WERE BOTH ON WRONG HERE.
LIKE THERES A REASON CHILCHUCK BRINGS UP HOW LAIOS SHOULD WORK ON HIS SOCIAL SKILLS A COUPLE OF EPISODES AGO/JUST BEFORE THIS HAPPENS?
like I know most of you don't like it but social cues ARE a part of society culture. Social cues ARE a form of communication.
In fact they were made to facilitate communication.
They were made so everytime Alice and Bob annoy each other they don't have to go and have a heart to heart when a simple gesture can have the same effect.
In fact sometimes better because sometimes addressing something with words makes it come out stronger/ruder than it is.
And sometimes just like you have problems understanding social cues some people have problems speaking, finding the way to words their thoughts/feelings correctly.
Specially among strangers where you don't know the others personality or how they could react to your words.
That's where social cues, that are general rules the majority of people have agreed on, work. To facilitate convivence.
And yeah there's an argument to be said about how you are supposed to know them if they are unspoken rules and the thing is YOU LEARN THEM THROUGH SOCIAL INTERACTION, through living in a society.
Just like gender norms and the like you don't learn them in school during a boring lecture where a professor lists them on the board. You learn them through interaction and repetition, throught observing your peers. Just like learning to talk and walk and other stuff. Heck, your parents and other adults around are supposed to ease you into it.
And yes, it's not a perfect system. But nothing is.
The saying 'communication is the key' doesn't refer to just talking.
Social cues and other non spoken gestures are also another form of communicating. Equally as valid as all the others
There's beauty in talking and openly expressing your love to someone. Or your grievances.
But there's also beauty in grabbing someones arm or the you picking up your friend is uncomfortable due to the turnup of their mouth or the way they stand.
One isn't superior to other. They are supposed to complement each other
Laios and Toshiros mistakes were relying completely in one or the other instead a compromising and finding a middle point.
Toshiro should have expressed his annoyance at Laios.
And Laios should have picked better Toshiros signs of discomfort.
(All of this isn't even taking into account how they come from different cultures and shock it comes with it because others have talked better about it and I wanted to focus on this. On how even if they have from the same background Laios should have also been a fault.
Hell not only social cues even talking is affected by ones cultural background. What for me is normal could come out as rude for someone in Japan)

Weekend

Enjoy!
It was finally the weekend of Coachella and it was her first time. She could wait to get to California and enjoy her weekend. Liberty and her best friend Meghan were off to the airport. They got there a few hours before their flight. Being from New York City they didn't know what to expect from California.
"You have our hotel's name?" Meghan asked.
"Yes I do," Liberty said as she sat down. "Can't believe we are doing this," she smiled.
"I know right, we have talked about it so much," Meghan said. "About damn time we do it," she said.
"True" Liberty smiled to herself.
They finally got onto their flight and they were off to California. They landed 8 short hours later and went straight to their hotel. They took a short nap before getting ready for the night. Coachella wasn't until tomorrow so they had the night to explore the city.
"Are you looking to pick up someone?" Meghan asked.
"Maybe," Liberty said as she looked at herself in the mirror.
"You look damn good, any man would be silly not to look at you," Meghan said.
"Thank you," Liberty said. "Let's see what we can get into tonight," she said.
"Let's shake up this town," Meghan said as she linked arms with Liberty.
They left their hotel and walked around, finding a bar to go to. They finally got access to the bar and went inside, sitting down at the bar.
"Hey ladies, what can I get started for you?" the bartender asked.
"I'll take a dirty martini," Liberty said.
"And I'll take a cosmo," Meghan said.
"It will be right up" the bartender nodded and went to start the drinks.
"I'll pay for them," another guy said.
"Oh thank you," Liberty said.
"No problem, you two are new in town?" the guy asked.
"Something like that," Meghan said.
"New to California?" the guy asked.
"Yes for sure, so much bigger than New York" Liberty nodded as the bartender handed her the drink.
"New York? Fancy" the guy said.
"I'm Liberty by the way," she said as she introduced herself.
"I'm Corbyn" he smiled as he looked at her.
"And I'm Meghan but I don't think I'm the one you're interested in so I'll disappear," Meghan said as she got up.
"Meghan" Liberty said as she tried to stop her.
"It's ok, really enjoy yourself," Meghan said.
"I didn't mean to be rude," Corbyn said.
"Don't worry she's very outspoken," Liberty nodded.
"Ok so what brought you guys to California?" he asked.
"Coachella," she said.
"Oh yea I got tickets for that this weekend," he said.
"Maybe we could hang out" she looked at him.
"That would be interesting" he smiled.
"Yea it would be" she nodded.
They mainly talked for the rest of the night. Around 3 am Liberty decided to go find Meghan so they could go back to their hotel. She found Meghan and they left, heading back to their hotel. They passed out the moment they lay in bed. In the morning they ordered room service as they started to get ready for the first day.
"Are you meeting Corbyn there?" Meghan asked.
"If we run into it then yea but I'm not looking for him," Liberty said.
"Ok" Meghan nodded as she continued to straighten her hair.
"I want this weekend to be fun for us both, '' Liberty said as she finished up with her makeup.
"It will be but if you meet someone, don't hold back because of me," Meghan said.
"I won't," Liberty said.
"Good," Meghan said.
Liberty finished her outfit as well as her makeup. Looking at herself in the mirror as she put on her angel wings. They left their hotel room and caught an uber to get to the venue. They got right in because they came early enough that there wasn't a line. There were still some artists already doing their sets.
"So food first?" Liberty asked.
"Of course, the main reason for coming" Meghan jokes.
"Come on," Liberty said as she linked arms with Meghan.
Liberty got herself some pizza and a drink as Meghan got her a few snacks. They found a place to lay their blanket down and listen to music as they ate. Corbyn snuck up on Liberty and placed his hands over her eyes.
"Guess who" he whispered in her ear.
"Well I only know two people here so is it Corbyn?" she said,
"Yes," he smiled as he sat next to her.
"You came early," she said.
"Love the food," he said as he also had pizza and a drink.
"Exactly the food is why we come," Meghan said.
"True," he said.
"Here I am thinking it's about the music," Liberty said.
"It's ok" he looked at her. "Music is good too," he said.
Liberty and Corbyn started talking again while they ate. Meghan slipped away to do her own thing. Once they finished eating they started going through different stages. Corbyn grabbed her hand and twirled her to the music. They came back together and she placed her arms around his neck. He placed his hands against her hips as they moved to the music. He dipped her in his arms, pulling her back up. She looked at him before leaning in and kissing him softly. He smiled against her lips before kissing her back. She gripped his shirt to keep him close as she kept the kiss. He parted her lips with his tongue as she allowed him to. She gently tugged at his bottom lip before pulling away. She rested her forehead against his as they continued to move to the music. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to another stage.
"I could get used to California," she said.
"And I could get used to this," he said before pulling her close and kissing her again.
"I can too" she smiled against his lips.
They started having drinks and enjoying their time together. They sat on a blanket taking a break from dancing to watch the sun setting. She could honestly get used to California but New York would always be her home. She leaned back in his arms as they watched the sun. She played with his hands as he held her close to his chest.
'Is it always like this?" she asked.
"What the sunset?" he asked.
"Yes," she said.
"For the most part," he kissed her cheek.
"It's so beautiful and magical," she said.
"Yea it is when you are with someone you want to share it with," he said.
"Yea," she said as she looked at him.
"Do you feel it too?" he asked.
"What?" she responded.
"Like we were meant to meet this weekend," he said.
"Yes I do," she nodded. "Like ours, souls are perfect," she said.
"Yea," he said as he held her.
"Come on, there is this one artist I want to see," she said as she got up, reaching for his hand.
"Sure" he smiled as he grabbed her hand.
They went over to the stage, it was an unknown artist but Liberty loved them. It was a slower set, swinging music really but with the sun setting, it was the perfect scene. He stood behind her placing his arms around her hips. Resting his head against her shoulder as they moved to the music. They stayed a few more hours before he took her back to his beach house. She sat up on the counter as he grabbed some water bottles. He moved between her legs, resting his hands on her thighs. She opened the bottle and took a few sips before handing it to him. He also took a few sips before placing it on the counter. He leaned in and kissed her softly, pulling on her bottom lip. She placed her hand on his cheeks as she kissed him back. The kiss started innocently but then started to heat up. He moved his lips from hers to her neck. Gently sucking on her neck, biting slightly to leave a mark. She placed her hands on his shoulders as she leaned her head back. She allowed the moans to escape from her lips as she moved down to her collarbone. She wrapped her legs around him as he picked her up. He took her upstairs to his room, laying her on the bed. He moved over top of her, slipping his hands up her sides. He pushed up her shirt, quickly removing it and tossing it onto the floor. She also grabbed his shirt and removed it. She ran her down his chest as he leaned in kissing her softly. Instead of stopping at second base that night, he hit a home run and she loved every second of it. She woke up in the morning laying against his chest.
"Shit what time is it?" she asked as she sat up, looking for her phone.
"Uh?" he said as he rubbed his eyes.
"What time is it?" she asked.
"Nearly 7 am," he said as he laid back down. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"Where is Meghan? I just abandoned her yesterday" she sighed as she ran her hand through her hair.
"She walked away from us," he said.
"She's my best friend and this weekend was supposed to be for us," she said.
"And it is for you two," he said as he rubbed her back. "I'm sure she's fine and doesn't mind," he said.
"Well she did say don't let her stop me from meeting someone," she said as she turned to look at him.
"See, it's ok," he said as he pulled her back down.
"I guess so," she said as she laid her head down on his chest. Tracing patterns on his stomach as they both started to drift off.
They slept for a few more hours before Liberty's phone started to ring. She woke up and answered and it was Meghan calling to check-in. Liberty got dressed and left the beach house, making her way back to the hotel.
"I'm so sorry," she said as she walked in the door, but soon realized Meghan wasn't alone. "oh," she said.
"It's ok really," Meghan said.
"Ok," Liberty said as she made her way into the bathroom. "I'm going to shower then we can get ready for today," she said.
"Sounds good," Meghan said.
She took a quick shower but within that time the guy left. Meghan and Liberty started getting ready for day two of Coachella. Of course, Liberty filled Meghan in on everything. Having some girl talk and catching up before leaving the hotel. They were there for a few hours before Corbyn caught up with them.
"Hey, you," Liberty said as he walked up to them.
'Hey," he said as he hugged her.
"Sleep well?" she asked.
"Yea until I woke up alone," he said as he kept his arm around her shoulders.
"Well I had to go back to the hotel to get ready of course," she said as she held his hand.
"True," he said as he leaned in and kissed her cheek softly.
"You two are cute," Meghan said.
"Thanks," he said.
"It's only for the weekend," Liberty said.
"True," Meghan said.
Those words didn't sit right with Corbyn. He didn't think it was just a weekend thing, he wanted more. He wasn't sure that Liberty wanted that and what would happen when Coachella was over with. Did that mean they would be over with? He had so many questions but didn't know how to start that conversation. They enjoyed their day at the festival but he kept his distance as much as possible.
"Do you want a snow cone?" She asked. "We could share one," she said.
"Yea sure," he said.
"Are you ok?" she asked.
"Yea great" he nodded.
"Ok," she said as she went to get a snowcone. "So do you want to sit down and take it easy?" she said as she returned.
"Sure," he said as he found a spot for them to sit down.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing is wrong," he said as he looked out towards the sunset.
"You've been quiet and I don't know," she said as she started to eat the snowcone.
"Can I ask a question?" he asked.
"Sure" she nodded as she looked at him.
"Did you mean what you said early?" he asked.
"What did I say? she asked.
"That this is just a weekend thing," he said.
"Well I am here only for the weekend so I don't know if it would work," she said.
"What if we both want it to work?" he asked.
"Then it would work but I didn't want to get serious," she said. "I'm having fun and we can see where it goes from there," she said.
"Ok," he nodded.
"I'm not trying to make this awkward or like you don't matter to me because you do" she grabbed his hand.
"I just wanted to know," he said.
"We are having fun, so let's not label it or put pressure on it," she said.
"Yes you are right" he nodded as he took a bite from the snowcone.
"Good" she smiled as she watched him.
They finished their snowcone and went back towards the music. They enjoyed the rest of the night and she ended up back at his beach house. He drifted off to sleep first and she was up with her thoughts. She started to wonder if this could work between them. Could she move to California or could he move to New York? Was this weekend going to turn into something serious? Would she even want a serious relationship right now? She could barely stay afloat in New York so how could she balance another thing? There were so many questions that now she couldn't answer. She knew she enjoyed their moments together and was having fun with him. She looked at him, brushing her hand through his hair. She got out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen. She found tea so she made herself a cup of tea. She went outside to sit on the deck. It was right between night and when the sun would start rising. She took a few sips from the cup as she looked out towards the ocean.
"What are you doing out here?" he asked as he walked outside.
"Love catching the sunrise as well," she said.
"Not as pretty as a sunset but amazing in its way," he said as he sat down.
"Yea it is" she nodded before taking a few more sips of tea.
"Are you ok?" he asked.
"Yes, I just couldn't sleep" she looked at him.
"Is there something bothering you?" he asked.
"Not really, I don't think I'm going to Coachella today," she said.
"Ok," he nodded. "We can just have a chill day here or I can show you around town," he said.
"Can we just chill for today?" she asked. "It's been a busy weekend," she said.
"Yes I understand," he said.
She nodded as she looked back out towards the sunrise. They both sat there in silence just enjoying the moment together. She called Meghan later that morning when she knew that Meghan would be awake. They both wanted to relax so Meghan was ok with her staying at Corbyn's. Corbyn and Liberty spent most of the day cuddled on the couch watching movies.
"What do you want to eat?" he asked.
"What do you have?" she asked.
"I have no clue honestly, I mainly get takeout," he said.
"Such LA" She laughed. "Well I'm guilty of that as well," she said.
"Uh huh joke about me but it makes you guilty as well," he said.
"Truly what do you have?" she asked.
"What do you want to order?" he asked.
"Chinese," she said. "Do you guys have good Chinese here?" she asked.
"Oh hush it New York" he rolled his eyes as he went into the kitchen.
"You hush it LA" she followed him into the kitchen.
"What are you going to do about it?" he asked.
"This," she said as she grabbed his cheek and kissed him softly.
"I like that," he smiled.
"And then this," she said as she sprayed him with the sink hose.
"OH are you serious," he said as he tried to grab it from him.
"Oh totally" she laughed as he turned the water onto her. "HEY," she screamed.
They started fighting over the water hose, spraying water all over both of them. He finally reached over her and turned off the water. She grabbed him as her feet started sliding on the water. He wrapped his arm around her waist to keep her stable but then his feet started slipping. He tried to keep them both up but ended up falling, bringing her down with him. She landed on top of him and they both started to laugh.
"Are you ok?" he asked.
"I should be asking you since you broke my fall" she smiled as she sat down.
"I'm ok, I don't mind" he smiled as he sat up.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yea" he looked at her.
"What?" she asked as she looked at him.
"Nothing," he said. "We should clean this mess up," he said.
"Yea probably," she said as she got up off the floor.
"Totally," he said as he also got up off the floor.
They cleaned up the water making sure all of it was up. She realized all of her clothes were at the hotel. He went upstairs and grabbed her something of his so she wouldn't have to stay in wet clothes. She grabbed his clothes and went into the bathroom to change. She came back into the kitchen to help finish up. By the time they finished the food had arrived. They sat on the couch eating their food and watching a movie. Once they finished eating he cleaned up the mess. Liberty decided to head back to the hotel to get changed. They agreed to meet at the park later that night.
"You are soaking wet," Meghan said.
"Water fight," Liberty said as she smiled to herself.
"Someone is happy," Meghan said.
"It's been a fun weekend," she said. "I'm going to grab a hot shower," she said.
"Go ahead," Meghan said.
Liberty grabbed her clothes and went into the bathroom. She locked the door behind her as she turned on the shower. While she was in the shower she heard someone else outside. She heard Meghan yelling and screaming, a lot of tossing things around. She got out of the shower, wrapping a towel around her as she peeked out the door. She saw a guy fighting with Megah, she quickly closed the door and got dressed. Before she knew it the guy was in the bathroom with her. She tried to fight him off but she pushed her against the wall. Her head hit the wall knocking her out. When she finally came to, she placed her hand on her head. When she pulled it back there was blood. She stood up shakily, trying to get her footing as the room was spinning. She made her way out of the bathroom. She couldn't believe the scene she saw in front of her, there was blood everywhere. Meghan was laid out on the bed, with a pool of blood near her head.
"Meghan?" Liberty said as she made her way to the bed. "Wake up," she said as she shook Meghan. "Come on," she said.
She slowly started to realize that Meghan was dead. The tears started to build up in her eyes as she looked around the room. She couldn't piece together what happened or even why it happened. When she opened the hotel door there were police about to knock on the door. She collapsed in the arms of an officer. The next time she woke up was in the hospital, the lights were bright and her head was pounding.
"Tell me I'm dreaming," She said.
"No, unfortunately not," the nurse said. "I'm sorry," the nurse said.
"It's all a blur," Liberty said.
"I bet you suffered a major head injury," the nurse said.
"That's why my head is pounding," she said.
"Pretty much," the nurse said. "I'll talk to the doctor and see if I can get you anything to help," the nurse said.
Meanwhile, Corbyn was texting her and trying to get through. He went to the hotel trying to figure out what was going on. That's when he was alerted to what happened and that Liberty was in the hospital. He rushed down to the hospital, rushing to the front desk. He found out her room number and ran down the hallway. By the time he arrived at her room, Liberty was gone. The nurse also came in and was shocked that Liberty was gone.
"She was just here," the nurse said.
"She couldn't have gone far", Corbyn said as he looked around.
They searched the hospital but it was like she disappeared. There was a police search and the hospital went on lockdown. There was no trace of her, it was as if she never even existed.
