So mirrors are just like little portals that let you glimpse into another, virtual world?
Cuz I'm revising for physics rn and when you look into a mirror you don't see the reflected light from the object directly but the reflected-reflected light of the object which creates a virtual image of it in the mirror. But no matter from where you look into the mirror, the virtual image doesn't move, it appears to stand at a fixed point behind the mirror. (I really suck at explaining... (T^T) But you get what I mean?)
So mirrors are basically windows to a world consisting of virtual images! ٩(^ᗜ^ )و
Anyways, that's a really cool insight to go to sleep with!

Honestly I think a lot of "criticism" of tlt comes down to people assuming that everything presented in the text, especially everything spoken by characters or said by an unreliable narrator (which all three books have), is reflective of the opinions and intentions of the metaphysical Text itself, and by extension of the opinions and intentions of real human person Tamsyn Muir. See: People trying to claim that Tamsyn Muir, real human person!, is like Literally A Pedophile because no characters turn to the camera and explicitly say that Palamedes's weird pen pal thing with Dulcinea was Problematic And Bad, even though I think it's pretty normal to, as an author of a sci-fi novel for adults, assume that your audience will pick up on a 13-year-old writing love letters to a 20-year-old he has never physically seen is "weird." See also: People presenting the text as something that/Muir as someone who uncritically "support" the necro/cav binary, even though like honestly if you think about it for two seconds beyond "whoaaa cool space fights!" the sociopolitical commentary provided by the necro/cav binary is extremely, extremely clear. See also also: People who took John "nuked the world" Gaius at face value and assumed that either "yes of course the anti-imperial 'terrorists' described as such by John 'nuked the world' Gaius must be the bad guys" or "wow can you believe Tamsyn Muir literally thinks that if you're anti-imperialist you're a terrorist???" to be the takeaways from Harrow the Ninth. Idk people chuck around "media literacy" and "reading comprehension" a lot when explaining why they don't like tlt (because it dares to be funny sometimes, so clearly it's for mouth-breathing idiots), but so much "anti-tlt"posting displays such a blatant unwillingness to read below the surface and to understand how, like, books work? that it honestly starts to become funny. Displaying my superior media literacy and how much smarter I am than these Tumblrina philistines by not understanding the concept of "an unreliable narrator"

Having a crush on someone who lives on the same ship as you can be quite frustrating. While on one hand, Nami wants to be as close to you as possible at all times, she also wants to be far, far away from you so that you will never figure out that she has feelings for you. The rest of the crew, however, are fully aware of her feelings, save from you. They all saw the way her cheeks flushed when you smiled at her, or how she leaned into your touch when you stood next to her. Why couldn’t you just notice?! It would make her life so much easier…
As you approach Nami and Jinbei at the helm, she tenses up. Jinbei laughs at her as she tries to hold the discussion about how to navigate to the island, despite her tense posture.
“Hey Y/N! What brings you here?” he asks with a kind smile on his face. You give the two of them a smile back.
“Oh, Usopp sent me to come get you two, he wants to show off his new uhm… thingamabob? Honestly, I’m not quite sure what it is but he wanted to show it off to everyone” you grin sheepishly and Jinbei lets out a hearty laugh.
“Alright then, let’s go check it out” he says as he starts to head down to the lawn deck. You turn to lean against the railing, looking out at the deck, and Nami joins you by your side.
“Honestly, what is Usopp even up to?” she sighs and shakes her head. “Did he just make some new stupid thing?”,
“I don't know, he comes up with some cool stuff every now and then” you respond with a shrug. Usopp barges out of his office and runs out to the lawn deck, Chopper following him closely behind.
“Everyone! Look closely!” he exclaims, getting everyone's attention. He brings what looks like a simple bubble blower out of his pockets. “This is not just a simple bubble blower! This is Captain Usopp’s super special bubble blower weapon!” he says, a wide grin on his face.
“Whoaaa!!” exclaims Luffy, Franky, and Brook. Chopper looks smug by Usopp’s side, clearly he was a part of the invention.
“Eh? It’s just a bubble blower?” Nami asks, clearly disappointed.
“Hey! Didn’t you listen just now! It’s Usopp’s super special bubble blower weapon!” Usopp retorts. Nami shakes her head and walks back to where she was before. You look back at her, admiring how her hair flows in the wind, how she tucks it behind her ear, the way her nails are always perfectly painted, the way–
“Y/N! Are you okay!?” she suddenly exclaims. Suddenly you seem to have found yourself inside one of Usopp’s special weapon bubbles, unable to move. You start to slowly float up, and most of the strawhat crew let out sounds of impression. No one had expected the bubble blower to be anything particular. You, however, were trying to poke a hole in it, panic coming over you quickly.
Nami runs over to you, helping you try to destroy the bubble, until suddenly it pops and you fall down to the floor. She kneels to where you’re lying, worry reading all over her face.
“Y/N are you alright? Did you get hurt?” she asks as she helps you up in a sitting position. Chopper comes running to check for injuries.
“I- I’m fine” you say, giving her a smile. It makes her blush and the rest of the crew immediately notice.
“Oi Nami, since when were you so caring?” Zoro asks from the lawn deck beneath. Nami clenches her fists and her blush deepens.
“Woah, I’ve never seen Nami be so close to someone before” Robin teases. Nami stomps down the stairs to lightly hit the older woman in frustration. Chopper looks at you with a headshake.
“Nami-san so cute!” Sanji fanboys from the side, earning himself a hit on the head from the redhead. You laugh at their antics and she turns around to look at you, a hint of awe in her eyes.
“Hey, Y/N, I think you should come with me to the infirmary,” Chopper says. “I just want to double-check that you didn't hit your head too hard or anything”. You nod and follow him along to the infirmary. The minute the door closes behind you and Chopper, Nami demands explanations from her crewmates.
“What the hell was that for guys?!” her voice is clearly very frustrated, but her friends are only smiling at her.
“Come on! Were we supposed to say nothing about the way you baby them? It kinda just grosses me out” Zoro says. Robin shakes her head.
“No, No. I think it’s quite endearing. You fit well with Y/N.” she said matter-of-factly. The rest of the crew nod in agreement.
“Fit?! What do you mean I fit with them?! What’s that supposed to mean?” Nami asks defensively. Usopp rolls his eyes and takes her shoulders to shove her to the infirmary.
“That's for you to find out! Now go!” he says as he shoves her in through the door.
“Hey!” she yells back at him as she steadies herself. Chopper looks up at you suddenly from where he’s sitting on his chair, his clove holding a stethoscope to your chest.
“Y/N are you alright? Your heartbeat suddenly…” Chopper starts, confused as to why your heart would suddenly pick up.
“Oh, uhm, no it’s okay, I’m okay” you clear your throat as Chopper removes the tool and hops down from his chair.
“Well… It doesn't seem like you have a concussion at least, but come to me immediately if something feels weird, alright?” he says before he leaves the room, leaving you and Nami alone.
“So… What’s up with those guys anyways?” you ask her as you put your shirt back on. She scratches her neck and looks away.
“God, who even knows… They were saying all sorts of weird things like… That we f-fit together…” she says.
“Hm? That we fit together? In what way?” You ask, but you obviously know exactly what they meant.
“I-I don’t know, but honestly forget about them, they’re crazy anyways” she says, shaking her hands like she’s shaking their comments away.
“Really? You think so? You think they’re crazy for thinking we fit?” you ask her, a grin on your face, as you slowly approach her.
“Ah! Uhm, I mean, they always say the craziest things anyways” she laughs nervously, clearly unsure what to say. You reach for her chin and tilt it up to make her look you in the eyes.
“You didn't answer my question. Do you not think we fit together?” you whisper. “Because I kinda think that we do…” You look into her eyes, waiting for her response. Her mouth opens and she stares up at you, shocked, until she gathers the courage to lean up to capture your lips. It’s a short but sweet kiss, a kiss that leaves you both wanting more, a kiss filled with longing for each other.
“Maybe… We do fit…” she says when you pull apart. You smile at her and give her a peck on the nose.
“You know, I never thought I’d say this but I think I might have to thank Usopp for making me fall on my ass with his bubble blower” you joke and she shakes her head.
“Please don’t tell him that, we’ll never hear the end of it” she groans, her hand massaging her temples.
You laugh at her reaction and she looks back up at you and smiles. Maybe she did have to thank Usopp after all…
