Was told to draw an oc in Victorian Dress, 'n I decided to choose Miles, who would act like he hates it. Sorry my dude that I finally drew you again and instead of a proper ref sheet it's a shit post...
Not bad? My own opinion in my art is admittedly really abysmal tho. I think I'd give him darker fur in future drawings if there are any.

I've been struggling with inspiration recently, so I took to writing instead of drawing. And the perusal of an old story of mine---and an old fanfic related to a book I've been re-reading---spurred me forth, and I wrote like, 6,000 words in one setting. (And yeah, it's self-insert, so therefore cringey as fuck and for my eyes only.)
These three gowns are taken from that story I wrote.
(More information below the cut, for anyone curious.)
Basic premise: modern teen gets mysteriously sent back to the Victorian era. And through some shenanigans, he ends up going undercover at a masquerade ball. Because I'm gay and Victorian fashion is one of my hyper-fixations.
So, finally struck with inspiration to draw, I made this! In the story, all three of these dresses are options, but the peacock dress is the one that is chosen for the masque (hence why it's the only one with the done-up hair and mask). I drew inspiration from real-life dresses from around the right time, and those are the pictures alongside the dresses. I found all of the pictures on Pinterest.
For those curious, the story is set in the late 1870s.
- The red dress is dated approximately 1887, though it was probably altered in the 1900s to better fit the Edwardian silhouette. I tried to pull it back towards the shape of the 1870s a little bit, but now that I'm looking at it, it definitely needs more to the bustle. Ah, c'est la vie.
-The inspiration for the blue dress is undoubtedly 1860s, though I couldn't find more information on the image's origins. I liked the idea of it being a little outdated (contrasting the slightly-too-modern shape of the red dress), especially since it better fits the image of a proper "ball gown." Also, I'm a sucker for a big, floofy dress.
-The third dress. As you can see, unlike the other two dresses, I combined inspirations from this one---pulling the colours from the bottom dress, and the shape from the top. The bottom dress has always been one of my favourites due to its colours, though the shape of the bodice, neckline, and sleeves belies its origins in the mid 1880s. Since I wanted a dress that was more properly 1870s, I took lots of inspiration for the shape from dresses dated specifically to that era. The blue dress pictured is specifically dated 1880-1883, though it is nigh identical in structure to another reference dress dated 1877-1879 (not pictured).
Als, here's a fun word for you: pavonine! (It means peacock-like, particularly in colouring. So, the third dress is a pavonine dress.)
Anyway, rambling over. I hope you enjoy!

They send him in as a distraction, if you see him at the front door you’re probably about to get robbed or your house is currently being raided without you knowing.
