The spoilers for the new chapter of Saezuru are coming out. I haven’t seen images apart from the official ones. But I have seen Yashiro’s monologue. So only based on the text of said monologue and not anything else from the new chapter, I am collecting here the thoughts I had and vomited in the discord discussion: because I am very tired right now and I don’t think I am able to rearrange them into a coherent analysis. And also because I kind of want to keep these very fresh reactions as I have felt them. I am grateful for the people on discord who tolerate my ramblings before I can properly distance myself from the first impressions, that challenge me and help me elaborate on my feelings by being there and interacting. I am going to share my own messages only and if there is a reply I have obscured the username because I don’t want to call out people I actually get along with pretty well and consider valuable friends. Discussions have moments where disagreement happens, sometimes it doesn’t get resolved. But I love to have them. I think I definitely have a more nuanced understanding of Yashiro as a character than Doumeki, and that this can be considered a bias. Again, this is mainly about his monologue in chapter 57 and my immediate interpretation of it.

Whatever you think of the timing of this little sidebar story, Aabria as a DM has done so much work in so comparatively little time to really establish the panic and the fear of the gods in response to Predathos. To put in front of the viewer with clarity exactly what they are prepared to do and who they are willing to align themselves with to save their own skin.

Aabria gets people and motive and societies and what makes them tick in a way that is so uniquely poignant. And hers is such an immeasurably valuable contribution to this story.

First impressions from chapter 57. Thank you so much @itwearsadress for your translation!

Doumeki to me seemed clinical? Most of all. I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that Izumi-san is actually Doumeki’s sex therapist and consultant. And with that I don’t imply that they necessarily have or had sex. I wouldn’t be surprised if Doumeki, feeling guilty and conflicted after realizing how complicated the situation with Yashiro was, thanks to that talk with Nanahara, asked for her advice. She is responsible for the girls at the club and she likely would know how to handle certain sensitive circumstances. Doumeki could have asked if she knew what to do with someone who was sexually assaulted.

It seems clear to me from this new chapter, at least, that the news delivered by Inami definitely registered. Doumeki’s approach is much more calculated now, he kept his attention on every expression Yashiro made. He is pushing, again, but this is deliberate instead of clumsy, and this isn’t anymore him trying to make it rough, because now he knows that rough doesn’t do it for Yashiro anymore. Now he knows that Yashiro responds to him specifically. And he is steering back towards gentle and loving, observing, observing the moment that triggers Yashiro’s fear. It was hard to see that Yashiro recognized Doumeki from four years ago, recognized that what they were doing was like that one time, like making love and he couldn’t help it and pulled back in fear. This is underlined so masterfully by the visual representation and expressed verbally later, so that it is shown and experienced before being told and explained.

This manga is amazing. All those nuances and also the ease with which Yoneda-sensei moves their bodies and the point of view. The details of Yashiro’s hands, how he opens his body to Doumeki, the shadow that one body cast on the other. This is artistically beautiful and every moment is meaningful.

Doumeki is still unaware of Yashiro’s feelings or of his fears connected with the idea Yashiro formed about his relationship with Izumi. So he acted deliberately and clinically while still emotionally involved and hiding it. There were moments where he lets his feelings through like when Yashiro said something that he remembered. When they talk like this, they recognize each other and those moments when they were lowering their defenses in the past and being honest. It makes me hopeful. Working through the pain and the fear. But they still don’t understand each other and that leaves them both very vulnerable.

I often think about Borderlands & it's wild to me that so many people (apparently) haven't even heard of Handsome Jack? One of the absolute greatest VA jobs ever? Dameon absolutely fucking nailed it? And it's one of the greatest writing for a hero/villain?

I understand that not everyone is into first person shooters, but I got introduced to Jack through Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands (and I was against shooters at the time.) It wasn't even real Jack, but his AI, and his charisma was through the roof.

And then I played Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and there was no going back. Absolutely in love with him. Absolutely in love with Rhack.

Murder husbands/boyfriends, my beloved. Also, Maya. And Angel. Like, the sirens in this universe? Ahhh!!

If you're into anti heroes and villains, do yourself a favor and play Borderlands 2. And TFTBL. And B:TPS. Preferrably in the order of: B:TPS, BL2, and then TFTBL.

I watched the Fallout Show

It was good.

Certainly better than I was expecting. The lore-stuff was a bit all over the place. It's plausible for the Enclave to still be around. I guess that villain reveal at the end does make sense in hindsight with the rest of the games. I liked the cyclops guy more than I thought I would. I liked how culty the BoS was, as they should be. I liked the gulpers too and how they came back around, it initially didn't click with me at first that it was a gulper, I thought it was like a centaur or something at first. The effects were great; practical, CGI, or otherwise. It's cool they got the original VA for the Mr. Handies to play an in-universe actor for Mr. Handy. I wish we could've heard more from the east coast, but maybe that'll be later on; I actually like the Minutemen, there was one instance where it had me smiling and hopeful, but I'm also from New England so I might be biased.

EDIT: I am being told that he is not the original VA. I heard somewhere that he was, and I took that at face value without fact-checking.

❗ ❗ ❗  SPOILER START  ❗ ❗ ❗ - oz: self-love. what makes his character interesting, compared to other generic shallow jovial anime protags (sorry LOL), is his exuberant exterior juxtaposed with the neglect he’s faced, causing his self sacrificial morals. “if everyone else is safe then it doesn’t matter if i am hurt”. this drawing represents the self-acceptance that he learned through the journey of the series. - alice: “this is my servant!” for me, alice’s childish notions about possession and servitude eventually grew into a sense of devotion and loyalty to her loved ones. (the entirety of volume 19... around Retrace LXXVI / 76. makes me cry so hard) - gil: gil treasures oz above all. gil is oz’s knight, like the comparison of the characters edwin (master) and edgar (valet) in the in-universe series “holy knight”. i also saw someone reblog this saying “gil is holding the oz bunny over his scar/heart” and i totally didn’t think of that at all but it works so well, thank you for that 😳👍 - elliot: kind of also oz’s knight. i can imagine here he would have said “get behind me!”. not anything important but i really like how the hand turned out in this one - leo: i planned the lighting so that he’s both in the light and in the shadow. tormented by both his duty and his morals
