Something he had quickly noticed about the King of Knights was that, besides their polite and knightly disposition, they weren’t one that stuck around for long nor wished to get attached to the staff or fellow servants in the facility. He didn’t quite understand the reasoning behind their actions, especially with how many servants there were that cared deeply for the Saber, but he didn’t have to understand to respect their decision to keep their distance. Maybe they’ll open up more one day, he had thought to himself a long time ago. But that seemed to matter little to the more impatient servants that quickly grew tired of Arthur’s elusive ways. He had been apologetic for letting things escalate back then, but deep inside he was glad that it had all worked out for the better and, hopefully, would get to see more of the Saber around Chaldea’s hallways.
And today seemed to be one of those days.
The cafeteria was particularly loud with so many servant engaging in tabletop games. Usually, Juanjo would be joining everyone else, but he was taking things more calmly on this day. After all, with everything that has happened so far, seeing everyone having fun and taking it easy was a beautiful picture he wanted to tattoo in his memory. And it was then that he sensed a familiar energy, light footsteps despite the armor, a figure taking a seat next to him. He didn’t immediately turn around to greet the Saber, but he grabbed the edge from the plate he had in front of him and passed it to the other man. It was an apple strudel that he hadn’t touched until now. Had he been unknowingly saving it for Arthur? Hm, maybe, but he wasn’t one to hang on thoughts like that. “Quite lively today, isn’t it?”
If Arthur tried being polite and reject the dessert, then Juanjo could simply grab a spoonful and place it on the Saber’s mouth. After all, it was no secret that these King of Knights loved their food. “I'm awful at chess so I wouldn’t make much of an entertaining game, but we can always try card or board games for two. For example... have you ever heard of the Operation board game?”

i know they said bank will remain open after general 3ds wifi services shut down but i don't trust for how long that will be, so i'm making an absolutely massive list of stuff i want to transfer for my collection before the ability to do so gets shut off forever...
i'm putting it below the cut because the list is long but i do want to say here that if anyone else is making a sort of "collectible list" before bank's shutdown one day and you're not a total stranger to me (we don't have to be mutuals, i'm comfortable if i just see you in my notifs sometimes), please feel free to reach out to me about trades for old gen event pokemon, i have a plentiful collection of hardware to be able to distribute events to myself in gens 3 & 4 like as if i were a toys r us employee in real life, and i might be able to trade you something for your collection (the "legitimacy" of these since they weren't distributed at the real life event over a decade ago is up to you! but i think it's a cooler way of getting them than cheat codes or injection through PKHeX at least)

About two months ago I ran a poll for in celebration for posting on this blog for half a year and the winner of that poll was a master list of desert duo centric videos and streams. My idea for this was to put together a playlist of all that as well as write up a sort of guide? taking about timestamps as well as in some cases which pov to watch for certain episodes with the same event.
I have finished up the playlists but at this time don’t really have the energy to finish my plan of the guide so I think I’ll post the playlist for now and hopefully will write up the guide at another time, mostly for my own sake. The playlist itself has all videos and streams I could find of hanging out in vc or with the voice mod and is quite fun to just skip around through for fun moments with them. I’ll be posting a link to it in a little bit

Thoughts on The Vampire Lestat (1985)
I finished reading TVL last night (directly after the season finale), so I thought at the end of each VC book I’ll post a little list of my thoughts and feelings. This is mostly to try and structure my own understanding of the text, but if anyone is interested in reading and contributing to my ramblings, please do! (Warning: long post!)
Characters, Plot, Themes, Philosophies
Lestat is equal parts fascinating and frustrating, and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible. I loved seeing how his existential crisis as a mortal transmuted into his aesthete philosophy as an immortal. He loves humanity, both before and after becoming a vampire, and art (music and performance especially) is his reason for existing. He doesn’t believe his purpose as an immortal is to be reticent from humanity, but to embrace it from a new perspective - as an elevated member of society. He loves being a predator, but he also want to be loved despite being a predator. But he is narcissistic, hard headed, and quite childlike in his behaviours. He takes some personal responsibility for his mistakes, but that doesn’t prevent him from making many, many more. He is charming and absurd, immortals are drawn to him and abandon him in equal measure, and he embraces the absurdity of his existence with theatre and fits of maniacal laughter. He is the vampire for the modern age!
Gabrielle, for me, was the most fascinating and enigmatic character of the book. In a story that is (imo) sometimes unbearable male dominated, I loved seeing how Gabrielle embraced the dark gift in a completely different way to her son, and her lust for freedom upon becoming a vampire reflects the maddening restrictions of women in the 18th century (privileged as she was compared to many). Lestat upholds beauty above many other things, but for Gabrielle, beauty and femininity are of little consequence. The shackles of her corseted clothes and long hair as a mortal serve her no purpose as a vampire. As a vampire she doesn't have to exist as a woman, even if she is perceived as one. She can exist as an entirely autonomous entity - not only within the role of mother, wife etc. She wears loose clothes, cuts her hair (in vain) and sleeps in the dirt. She wants to travel to remote jungles and fight beasts. Her bond with Lestat is strong (creepily so- the open mouthed kiss/ blood exchanges were...interesting), but she does not diminish herself to make him happy.
Nicolas is an interesting character. A brilliantly talented and troubled man who should never have become a vampire. Unlike Lestat's existential crisis which was quelled by the dark gift, Nicki's cynicism is amplified with immortality. Where Lestat embraces absurdity, Nicki descends into nihilistic despair. I felt for him. The breakdown of his and Lestat's relationship was depressing, but I loved the way AR used them as foils to each other.
Armand. I adore Armand. Like Claudia, he is another soul trapped in the crypt of eternal childhood. He is incapable of existing alone, as he was a slave in life and cult member/leader in immortality, and rigid belief systems and master/slave dynamics are the structures in which he knows how to exist as a vampire. He is detached, but simultaneously needy. He covets Lestat's love once Lestat disbands The Children of Darkness, and he does not take kindly to the rejection. He is probably the most ruthless and amoral vampire in the book, and like Claudia preceding him, there is something about the eternal child that festers into rage and cruelty in immortality.
Those Who Must Be Kept. The reveal of Akasha and Enkil in their statue-like state was terrifying. I'm so excited for Queen of the Damned!!!!
Both the beginning and end of the novel reads like fanfiction, not necessarily a bad thing, but there is something funny about all of the main characters reuniting at Lestat's concert and having to fend off angry leather clad vamps. I think I definitely enjoy the historical parts of the narrative more than the contemporary storyline, but I'm readying myself to embrace the camp.
I do love Louis' return at the end. Lestat loves him so much. He even tells him he's dressed like shit.
I have more thoughts on Marius and Akasha but I might save those for the next book!
Regarding the show- I really, really hope they incorporate some of TVL into the next season. Overall it was a fabulous read and I'd love to see Sam Reid play Lestat in his early years as an immortal!

Who’s YOUR favorite vc vamp and why?
Sorry this took a week, I was on vacation and wanted to actually give a decent answer since you gave such a good one.
Armand as well!! Or my favorite name of his- Amadeo. I haven't actually read TVA yet, so once I do I'm sure I'll have a lot more to say, but basically I find him to be the most tragically beautiful and endearing, and I relate to him the most.
I love that Armand essentially “lost his god” three, four times. (Nice tragedy bro.) First being raised devoutly Christian as a child- “all he knew was [I forgot the full quote] and God”- then having that ripped away from him by the abduction, being sold to the brothel and sexually abused, being severely beaten and left for dead when he refused. Then Marius appearing to him like a god, saving him and whisking him away and teaching him all this fine art and education and giving him everything- (the cruelty and Marius’s narcissism in naming him Amadeo- “Loved by God”?)- then losing Marius, again in a traumatic kidnapping fashion. Then the Children introducing him to Satanism and brainwashing him- he gained a new God, getting that whole belief system, understanding of reality, and way of life (for 300 yrs!!) shattered to bits in one day by Lestat. He then basically wants Lestat to be his new god and show him a new way of life/give him a new identity. And for the first time in his long life, he’s left without one when Lestat calls him out on this and denies him (one of my favorite parts and, I think, possibly one of Lestat’s kindest and most selfless moments, even if Armand resented him for it.)
His Amadeo in Venice days and relationship with Marius also remind me of one of my OC’s- Kina Sintav from the Elder Scrolls universe. I made her before I ever read VC, but they have quite a few similarities. Namely, being in a dark, murderous cult and their almost childlike reliance and dependence on (due to childhood trauma), extreme loyalty and attachment to, sexual seduction of, submissiveness to, and genuine love, respect, and admiration of an older, occasionally abusive master, who is also their savior from a terrible situation and gave them much more than they ever knew before in their lives, who ends up being traumatically ripped away from them. Also the whole weird, kinda creepy sexual religious vibe and power dynamic going on. (She is an adult in her late twenties/early thirties though, and I want the relationship to be much more of a partnership and dark tragic romance than an abusive or predatory one. She’s also a lot less innocent than 17 yr old human Armand was.)
I don't want to write a whole essay so I'm just gunna list out the things I relate to him about:
1- Physical appearance- auburn hair, pale skin, big brown eyes
2- (seemingly) Eternally youthful appearance-we both look younger than our age (I also relate to Claudia because of this because I sometimes resent it lol)
3- Sexual trauma, although luckily to much different extents
4- Acting seductive to older men, general seductive behavior
5- Enjoying bdsm lmao and relationship control dynamics (in different ways too- Marius, Daniel)
6- Flat affect
7- Using people (Daniel) and items around him, general impulsive careless nature- devouring then throwing aside- his cult members, Lestat’s books
8- Having to be given an identity, lack of own identity
9- Becoming obsessed with certain people/things
10- Need for control and previously having a lack of it
11- Childlike curiosity, strange innocence
12- Violence, sadism (at least emotionally)
13- Night Island!! If I were incredibly rich that's absolutely something I would create, I've thought about it before.
14- Style- I would definitely lure suicidal people if I were a vamp, just for the poetic beauty of it all. I actually thought about this before when I thought about if vamps had psychic power. Would kill them in a lot of other ways too though, try it all. I would also find a victim like Daniel, I adore that dynamic.

Cal Kestis was taken into the Jedi Order as a force-sensitive youngling. Never having known his parents, the Jedi Order established the definition of "family" from Cal's perspective. As a Padawan, he became the apprentice of Latero Jedi Master, Jaro Tapal. When the Republic crumbled under the guise of false pretenses, and the Clone Army was given the green light for Order 66, Tapal defended Cal long enough for both to leave the Venator-Class Star Destroyer and board an escape pod bound for Bracca. Tapal sustained life-threatening injuries and died aboard the life pod, consequently traumatizing the then thirteen-year-old with survivor's guilt.
Cal worked in the Braccan Scrap guild for the next five years under child labor and with little compensation in credits until he was eighteen years old. There, he befriended an Abenedo adult male named Prauf, who looked out for Cal's best interest after seeing how young the kid was when he started out as a Scrapper.
Cal wasn't safe from the Empire, however. Word had traveled around that a Jedi Fugitive was lurking on Bracca, and the Second and Ninth Sister gave the Braccan Scrap Guild a visit to investigate. Prauf attempted to de-escalate the situation once the other Scrappers' lives were threatened. His wishes to protect Cal's secret, after having been recently saved by Cal's force abilities from sheer death, were in vain as Prauf paid for his mistake, with the Second Sister's lightsaber in Prauf's torso.
Cal narrowly escaped the Second Sister with the help of former Jedi Master Cere Junda, a Force user with severed ties to the Force, and latero pilot of the luxury yacht The Stinger Mantis, Greez Dritus. Cal had agreed with Cere to help the Mantis Crew find a Holocron with the list of the names of the next generation of Force-sensitive children across the galaxy.
The journey was an endeavor that made Cal face the pain of his past, and how he must move forward for the future. He meets BD-1, a scout droid who had his memories wiped but had recordings of a Jedi Master, Eno Cordova, on holos that walked Cal through history of the ancient Zeffo civilization and its relevance in the Force, all of which contained hints at finding the Holocron while evading the Empire's watchful eyes. He also meets the last Nightsister of Dathomir, Merrin, on her homeworld. Though the two have their initial disagreements, Merrin and Cal decided to team up after finding that they had more in common with one another than they thought: both were left alone in the Galaxy, with parties seeking to exploit them and ultimately searching for belonging once again.
He also battles the Second Sister and the Ninth Sister on separate occasions and learns that the Second Sister is Cere Junda's ex-apprentice in the Jedi Order, who was reconditioned into an Inquisitor while Cere escaped. With Merrin on his side, he was able to open the vault in Bogano, finding the Holocron within. There, he encounters the Second Sister. Cal got a hold of the Second Sister's lightsaber and, through his unique ability of force psychometry, felt the pain Trilla went through after Cere abandoned her. This, in turn, allowed the Second Sister to escape with the Holocron Cal had just found. Cere Junda, on the Mantis, promotes Cal from Jedi Padawan to Jedi Knight, with the Second Sister's lightsaber.
Cal and Cere then infiltrate the Fortress Inquisitorious to retrieve the Holocron. There, Cal encounters the Second Sister again, who is eliminated by Darth Vader. Cal and Cere narrowly escape with the Holocron.
SURVIVOR. (9 BBY)
The Mantis Crew had disbanded. Greez owns a Cantina by the name of Pyloon's Saloon on Koboh, Cere is a part of the Hidden Path on Jedha, and Merrin is out exploring the galaxy on a road of self-discovery. Cal is left with BD-1 and he has taken the role of the Mantis pilot. The Jedi Knight is working for Saw Gerrera and his resistance fighters, trying to locate classified military intel onboard Senator Daho Sejan's yacht on Coruscant. Among the resistance fighters is his friend by the name of Bode Akuna, who through their interactions demonstrates a long history of teamwork between the two. It was here that Cal killed the Ninth Sister as an act of mercy. Unfortunately, things turn for the worse as the only survivors in the mission are Cal, Bode, and BD-1.
The Mantis needed repairs after exiting hyperspace and the only one who knew the Mantis inside out was Greez Dritus. This led to Cal visiting Pyloon's Saloon. On Koboh, he searched for parts that would help with the repairs. Deep within a Jedi temple in an intricate underground system, he encounters a High Republic droid by the name of ZN-A4, or Zee, who speaks of a planet that can only be accessed through keys hidden throughout the Galaxy, and for good reason! It presented an opportunity of a home, one that the Empire could never touch. The Jedi of the High Republic had abandoned Tanalorr many years ago, and one of the Jedi overlooking the mission to secure Tanalorr, Dagan Gera, became fueled with rage towards the High Republic Jedi Order. Cal saw this firsthand, after using his force psychometry abilities while Dagan was suspended in a bacta tank and looking into Dagan's slow descent into vengeance. Cal had released Dagan from his bacta tank and, after Dagan bled his kyber crystal, was attacked by the High Republic Jedi. Dagan had escaped with the help of Rayvis, a Gen-Dai warrior and leader of the marauder group on Koboh, the Bedlam Raiders.
Cal reunites with Cere and Merrin on Jedha and meets Master Eno Cordova. With their help, Cal finds the three keys to Tanalorr. After Cal kills Rayvis, Master Eno Cordova deciphers the keys to Tanalorr. Master Cordova is then killed by Bode Akuna and it is revealed that Bode Akuna was a Jedi Survivor working for ISB Commander Lank Denvik; ultimately the mole for the Empire. Bode was tasked to befriend Cal and send the Empire the location of Cere Junda and the Hidden Path. Darth Vader arrives on the scene, with Cal knocked unconscious by Bode Akuna during their duel, and kills Cere Junda.
Cal awakens and finds Cere's corpse in the Archives of the Hidden Path's base. Out for revenge, Cal hunts down Bode and finds him on Nova Garon. There, Cal encounters Bode's eight-year-old daughter, Kata Akuna, and finds that Bode lost his wife years prior. The Jedi also learns that Bode's reasoning for joining the ISB was to protect Kata. It was a setup all along, with Bode escaping to Tanalorr while using Cal to neutralize the Imperial personnel on the ISB base. Cal embraces the Dark Side and almost kills Denvik when Merrin stops him, convincing him that they have lost too much from the Empire and that what he is about to do is not a reflection of himself. Cal spares Denvik, and with Merrin and Greez, the fractured Mantis Crew remnants set off for Tanalorr.
Cal encounters Bode on Tanalorr with Merrin. During the battle, Merrin saves Kata Akuna, and Cal is force-choked by Bode. Cal, however, survives as he embraces the Dark Side and triumphs in battle. Merrin, Kata, and Cal hold a funeral service, cremating the bodies of Bode, Cere, and Eno Cordova on Tanalorr. Cal is left with Kata, knowing that he must set an example for the orphaned child.

Notes: Saved this one for makeup day because I wasn't sure what to do at first until I realized what I wanted to write was staring at me the whole time /shrug Anywho! This is an AU set during Shadowbringers because this idea has been running around in my head for a while thanks to a vc session with my friends. We were running around Eulmore when I jokingly said Kien was now a dancer who worked at the Bee Hive and this whole AU bloomed from there. There will be more to this as this is just a little intro to the AU. And I fully plan to post it once it’s done (we’ll see if the rest of the challenge has any words I can use otherwise this will be a teaser till I get the fic fully planned!) Upon his arrival to Eulmore, Kien was quickly taken under the sponsorship of the Bee Hive’s venue owner and he earned his keep as one of the Honey Bees. It wasn’t the worst of the jobs someone could have in order to be within the city gates and away from the Sin Eaters, but it was certainly one of the most strenuous.
The mystel’s days were filled with odd jobs around the Beehive like cleaning, checking the bar stock, and sewing costumes. Then it was straight into the night shift, making his rounds around the room to check on the patrons and perform his dance on the stage several times a night—there were no vacations and no sick days allowed, not if you wanted to earn your keep.
The venue owner was Lord Vauthry’s personal lap dog and each week, he’d select one dancer to perform in front of the Lord of Eulmore. Impress him, and you’d earn your freedom as a citizen, but fail and you’d never be seen or heard from again. Every Honey Bee dreamed of earning their citizenship of Eulmore—that’s why a lot of them stuck it out under the harsh conditions.
Every Honey Bee that is, except for Kien. He didn’t like the idea of having to perform in front of someone who would decide his fate in a single dance, and not only that, but if no longer had to work at the Hive then he’d no longer get to see and speak to the mysterious patron who was one of his regulars.
He was rather small and unassuming, and his face was always shrouded in a hood. Kien first spotted him sitting alone in the corner, sipping tea by himself and paying no mind to any of the dancers. It confused him at first so he began to strike up a conversation with him every night he was there. His voice was soft and sultry, his laugh like honey. Kien barely knew him but he found himself drawn to him and wanting to know more about him.
The man always gave him his full attention when they spoke–Kien found himself spilling every detail of himself and his life story to him and while the other never said much about his own past, he still shared the other parts of himself and as the days stretched into months of these visits, the two had grown quite close. So close that Kien would even admit he may have been falling for him a bit.
Still, he had to keep it professional. There were still so many unexplained things about the man and he didn’t exactly know if he would even accept his advances. Not only that, it was forbidden to have such relations with the patrons so Kien couldn’t even try to pursue any sort of closer connection with the man, even if we wanted to. Maybe it was time to earn his freedom. He said as much to the man one night, hoping for a good reaction, one of support but instead he was met with push back.
“Lord Vauthy is not a man who plays fair,” the man said quietly, leaning in close to ensure no one would overhear him if they passed by. “You could be the greatest dancer here and he’d still find reason to say you didn’t impress him. You’re better off staying where you’re at.”
Kien paled, his ears drooping a little. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.” I thought you’d be happy at that idea. “You’re right, it was silly of me to think that.”
The man’s shadowed face faltered a bit. “Kien, I don’t think it was silly. I can understand why you’re thinking this way and while I admire your courage, I just think you should wait a little longer.”
“Wait longer for what?” Kien couldn’t help the question as it spilled from his mouth. “You said it yourself, he doesn’t play fair, so if you tell me to wait longer to improve my skill or my dance, then you might as well just be upfront and tell me that you’d not like to pursue me as I want to pursue you.” He hated how devastated he sounded but he couldn’t help it. He thought he clearly understood whatever was blooming between them but now he was starting to realize he may have horribly misjudged this whole thing between them. He felt ashamed.
“This is far more complicated than you know and I fear I cannot explain myself to you just yet.” The man paused, his lips pressing into a thin line. “Kien, please listen to me,” He reached across the table to grasp Kien’s hand but the mystel pulled it away gently, keeping his gaze firmly fixed on his lap. He failed to notice the man’s expression morph into hurt. “You have every right to feel this way, but please believe me when I say that this was the last thing I wanted to tell you.” He finally said as he pushed the chair back and stood up. “You shouldn’t get your life entangled with mine. You’re safer to stay here.”
Kien didn’t look up as tears began to blur his vision. He could sense the man still hovering, as if waiting for him to speak but Kien knew if he tried to speak, his voice would betray him.
“I think its best for us to part ways,” the man said quietly. “earning your freedom just for me isn’t what you want,” he added even more quietly, just barely loud enough for Kien to catch as he turned on his heel to leave. “Even if that’s what I want of you as well…”
Kien’s ears perked up at those words but when he looked back up, the man was gone and Kien was alone at the table. He took a few moments to gather himself up, wiping his tears and taking a few deep breaths. He stood and steeled his expression. He had work to finish and patrons to please.
