just some jean-pierre tintin thoughts.. the movies have been on my mind a lot lately and i really just wanted to talk about how much i love him as tintin and why, so!
there’s just something very warm about jpt’s performance that i really love. in terms of his general energy and vibe he just feels like tintin in a way that his 2011 counterpart doesn’t
in less nebulous terms, he has a much more lighthearted demeanor, and when combined with his confidence, drive, and humor, it makes him really feel like tintin to me
i think this is also helped by the fact that generally the tone of the 60s movies is closer to that of the comics than the 2011 movie was — because that’s precisely what they were going for! and i think they succeeded. they’re very much in the spirit of the comics, they really feel like they could be just another album. like golden fleece is a typical globetrotting adventure/mystery and has the additional bonus of having had herge’s input, and blue oranges is essentially just the calculus affair (albeit…. not as well-executed. lol)
for these reasons the statement ‘feels like tintin in a way that 2011 doesn’t’ can be applied to the entire movie, not just jpt’s performance
but going back to jpt now lol his physicality is literally everythinggggg like he’s really out here doing the damn thing! seeing the stunt work makes every fight scene in the comics suddenly that much more believable bc here is this actor who looks exactly like him doing the exact same things. it’s so so so great
he gives a very nice and understated performance, which works well with tintin being the kind of character that he is. he does really well portraying both tintin’s sense of playfulness and joviality, as well as his serious and sleuthy side. i will say though that at times he does risk getting overshadowed — in golden fleece in particular, due to his lack of acting experience compared to the cast. nevertheless he holds his ground!
and all of this just gets better in blue oranges. blue oranges is the weaker story but in terms of jpt’s performance it’s really great. this tintin has the same self assuredness that jamie’s does, the same easy confidence that comes from experience — which i absolutely believe is due to jpt growing into the role and being more grounded in it after having done golden fleece. he’s just so natural and believable in the role at this point it’s so wonderful to see
yeah i don’t think one is better than the other, they’re just different. different adaptations with different goals as adaptations. i don’t think i could even pick a favorite between the two, i love them both in different ways. but to me i think jean-pierre’s feels closer to the comic — which, as we’ve established, is due to the nature of the adaptation.

✾ Tintin's dad is present his life and is married to his mom, but from serving in the Marines in the past he often got so depressed from his PTSD that Tintin barely saw him at all <:(
✾ Tintin is a very calm and collected guy, he's nice and upbeat to everyone he meets! He is always up for a bit of action, but due to his brain trauma he has post-concussion symptoms and is mostly unable to do so. Otherwise he's always in the mood to cook and go outside! He can be irritable at times, but not to the point of being mean. He has a super wholesome personality that's contagious and everyone loves him!! ❤️ He can also be very shy at times, but my s/i loves that about him <3
✾ He takes anti-seizure medicine and various other medications to reduce his post-concussion symptoms (migraines, sensitivity to light, etc.).
✾ He started working as a reporter when he was 15.
✾ He has a walking aid! He developed ataxia from getting so many concussions, and his legs were mainly affected :( some days he'll feel fine but other days he wants to stay inside bc he feels so miserable.
✾ Had to quit his job as a reporter bc he legally has a disability that makes him unable to focus on his job. He applied for disability and got accepted and now he lays low and tries not to be too active so he doesn't get too dizzy or faints.

For the WIP title tag game: campaign bars :)
I got two asks for this story, but yours came in first. Thank you for asking!! (Original post here.)
If s5pau has been the WIP for a while, this was a close second. For a while there, I'd alternate between the two of them, even if this one is significantly shorter.
If I'm not mistaken, this was some sort of belated bday present for Ally @onekisstotakewithme after she finally thought of a prompt. (The document is from mid-August, lol.)
I think she asked for campaign vignettes, maybe? Maybe focused on Danny's role. This is part of the summary I have on the doc (apart from many links to election calendars):
Campaign-set fic, focusing at the start of the campaign and on Danny.
I have links to election calendars and trying to decide an order. My snippets have been set in DC, IA, NH and ME, and are mostly short. I really dig some of the ideas in there (it has some focus on CJ/Danny, but Josh and Abbey are in there, too!), and I need to get back into it.
The first thing that I apparently wrote into the document, and that became the basis for the first of the snippets, is:
Danny and Josh. Hotel bar, a bit fancier. About joining the campaign. He’s there now, right? Will follow him through the first couple of primaries, before he drops out (Josh implies it’s about issues). It’s not like he’s going to find the love of his life on the campaign trail
Just this snippet reminds me that I've pulled a couple of things from other (unpublished) stories, but that just needed to be here. (The love of his life exchange thing tickles me, because it's just so obvious, and I might just post it for the other snippet. Never said I took myself or my writing seriously, lmao. The trick is knowing it's not good.)
“Tintin…”
Danny groans at Josh’s use of an old nickname that their friend group had for him. It wasn’t funny then, and it is still not funny now.
“I don’t care for nicknames, but I especially can’t stand that one.”
“It’s clever. You know, a redhead, do-gooder, campaigning reporter who wants to get to the bottom of things.”
“He was actually blond,” Danny replies tiredly, with the resignation of someone who has heard this nickname for decades now.

Nester looked up from his dusting “Hm? Friday? surely you must mean this wensday?” Haddock titled his head at Nestor, “I asure you I do not, I may be getting old but I know my own soon to be fiancee’s birthday and it’s this friday the 12th!” Nestor walked past him to a calendar on the wall. “Not according to this calendar.” Said Nestor. Haddock had no such need for calendars, Only calculus used the calendar because he was a daft old man with no memory. Not like Haddock. Haddock looked only so he could rub it in his face that he was right. Nester pointed at the date labeled “TT’s Bday”.
“Sir, his birthday is wensday the 10th. and sir, today is wensday.”
Haddock sputtered, “W-WHAT no that can’t be! Calculus is wrong, SNOWY!” the dog perked his ears up. “Tell Nestor that Tintin’s birthday is this friday!” Snowy looked at Haddock, peering into his soul. And then it clicked
Oh lord, it is wensday.

This show is literally the best thing ever. Ryan and his cardboard cutouts and rivalry with Ken and his fear of dolphins is one of the best things about this show. If I could, I would've picked the show as a whole because I love the characters in it and everything about the show is perfect.
Gulliver: The Humans (written by Matt Haig)
idk if this qualifies as a fandom since this is a book and i have yet to make any fandom strides towards this book other than t h i n k about it deeply. I love this book to bits, and gulliver has a special place in my heart. I srsly want to write fanfic about him and christopher post ending because i want more happy fluffy feels like the book was aiming for towards the end. i really have quite a few other ficcy ideas surrounding gulliver and the plot of the book because yes why not.
Tin Tin: The Adventures of Tintin
Tin Tin is one versatile guy, he knows everything from shooting a gun to befriending gorillas. He deserves a spot on this list since my bday cake back in february was Tin Tin themed.
